08x06 - Belize Breakdown

Post by bunniefuu »

I don't know if I have
hyperther-- hypothermia.

I don't think so.

My body is shutting down.

This is the most cold
I've ever been.

Me too.

I lived in alaska,
and this is not the same.

Narrator: one man...

-And one woman...
-I'm not leaving.

...alone for 21 days...

What is that?

...with no food...

Oh, god, please.

...no clothes...
-Ah!

...no water.

God! Don't move!

Do they have the skills
and the will...

It hurts!

...to overcome the most
primal survival challenge

Of their lives?

Oh!

Cory: this is more like t*rture
than adventure.

Captions paid for by
discovery communications

"Naked and afraid" has given
america's top survivalists

The chance to put
their primitive skills

To the test on the everest
of survival challenges.

Can't take it anymore.

Fans responded,
taking to social media

To showcase their own skills

And share their desire

To prove themselves on a special
14-day fan challenge.

I am concerned about
creepy-crawlies

Getting into my lady parts.

Narrator:
two candidates were chosen.

They're about to find out
if they have what it takes

To conquer mother nature.

What's up, guys?
It's a beautiful day

Here in eagle river, alaska,

And, yes, I'm going
to be a participant

On "naked and afraid."

Oh, my gosh.
I am so freaking excited.

You have no idea.

My name is cory.
I am from eagle river, alaska,

And I'm a youtuber
and life enthusiast.

I am a very adventurous
type of person.

I just love to go out
and experience things.

I spend a lot of time making
videos and just sharing my life.

How do you climb
a steep mountain?

One step at a time.

People consider me
a social media star.

I currently have about 1 million
followers altogether on youtube.

* Hey, little sparta,
what is with all the fight? *

* Little, bitty kitty
want to bite, bite, bite *

I don't necessarily
consider myself a survivalist.

I've never had to put myself
in a situation

Where I actually
have to survive,

But I am a huge fan
of "naked and afraid."

I have seen
every single episode,

So I put a lot of study,

A lot of time,
a lot of effort into this,

And I think my biggest strengths
are, of course,

Fire-making and fishing.

My only weakness that I'm going
to have going into this

Is being away from my my wife
and my daughter.

I'm going to miss you so much.

Daddy has got to go.

Don't forget me, okay?

What really makes me
want to take on this challenge

Is just showing the world

That no matter what,
through anything,

As long as you stay positive
in your mind,

You can get through things.

Narrator: living in alaska,

Cory is intimately
acquainted with the outdoors,

But he's got no hands-on
primitive experience.

He starts off with a psr of 3.9.

My name is anastasia.

I'm from san clemente,
california,

And I'm a professional surfer.

I won my first
professional event at 16

And won more than 100 events
worldwide,

Including the pro
surfing tour of america

And also the pipeline pro.

I grew up on the north shore
of oahu in hawaii,

And so I grew up being
a full nature girl.

I went to school barefoot.

I was in the ocean
for hours a day.

I did hikes.

So for me, nature has always
been a big part of my life.

I come from a really
male-dominated sport,

And it's sometimes
really hard for me

Because people don't take me
seriously as an athlete

Because I'm in a bikini.

I'm a girl.

I'm surfing, but I work
just as hard as all the guys,

And I'm always out
there having to prove it.

Currently, right now, I have
over 3 1/2 million followers

Spread
out on different platforms.

I've shot surf videos
all over the world,

And whether it be instagram,
facebook, twitter,

Snapchat, you name it,

My group of internet friends

Want to see if I can
survive in the jungle.

Narrator:
as a champion surfer,

Anastasia is accustomed
to the challenges of the ocean,

But this will be her
first attempt at surviving

In a grueling jungle setting.

She begins with a psr of 3.2.

That's good.
That's very good.

While cory and anastasia
have extensive experience

In the outdoors,

They've been given
a crash course

In primitive survival training
from a wilderness expert.

Start slow and then
go as fast as you can.

So I think your psr
is going up by the minute.

Cory and anastasia
will be dropped

Deep into the jungles
of northwest belize

In its most isolated expanse,

Monkey bay.

In this primeval rainforest,

Recent unseasonable rainfall
and high humidity

Has caused the insect
population to explode,

Leaving the region crawling
with millions of stinging bugs

And bloodsucking sandflies,

Whose bites can infect
the skin with leishmaniasis,

A painful flesh-eating disease.

Larger threats abound,
including jaguars,

Deadly american crocodiles,

And territorial packs
of howler monkeys.

Although small in stature,
when threatened,

They will use their
remarkable strength

To quickly overpower
any defenseless human being.

Oh, man. I'm feeling so alive
this morning.

This -- this is what
I've been waiting for,

Studying, practicing,

Doing things for many months,

All for this.

Anastasia:
is this the part of the joke

Where they put me
in the nice hotel,

And I pretend to go
in the jungle?

I'm very comfortable in my body

And doing photo shoots
and stuff,

But I've actually never
done anything nude.

I'm going to be blushing.

Here goes nothing.

It's game time.

Let's do this.

I'm 110% sure that
I'm going to survive out there.

The only thing that I can't
control out there is my partner.

Hi.

Like, just you and me
in the jungle.

This is so not awkward.

This is amazing. This is --
hi. I'm cory.

-Anastasia. Nice to meet you.
-Good to meet you.

You ready for this?
-No.

Oh, my gosh.
I'm ready.

So no matter what happens out
there, just know we are a team.

-Okay.
-We're going to stick together.

There's so much to eat out here,
so much food, so much variety

And so many things
we can make, so, yeah.

Think of this as one
big creative jungle.

-Okay. So...
-Oh, my god!

One big creative,
awkward jungle.

Get rid of the awkward
because this is 14 days.

We're going to make this home.
-Okay.

All right.
See what we got, yeah?

All right.

Narrator: in addition to being
given an emergency radio

And mosquito netting...

This means we get to sleep,
and it means we get to fish.

Awesome.

...cory and anastasia have
brought two personal items --

A machete...
-26-Inch machete.

Well, we need that,
so good.

Yes, yes.

...and duct tape.

Yes! You can make
so many different...

That's going to help
in so many different ways.

All right. Let's see
what else we got in here.

I got a map.

-Nice.
-Yeah.

Cory: beautiful.
Looks like we're right here,

And we need to move
our way down.

We need to find our way
to that water source

Because that water source
right there

Is going to be
our lifeline.

Also,
we've got some bamboo.

That could be used
for many different things.

-Okay.
-You ready?

-Yeah.
-Let's do this.

All right.
Let's go for it.

Geez.
You hear that?

Howler monkeys
are going nuts.

What did we sign up for?

I've been studying,
and realistically,

My skills out here,
I'm really comfortable.

I mean, I'm seeing
a lot of food sources.

I'm used to being,
like, in the outdoors,

And I'm very active
and stuff,

But, like, actual surviving,
like, I've never...

You know, I'm more of, like,
a little bit of a princess.

I wouldn't say
"princess."

Call yourself, like,
a princess warrior.

Okay.
That's a cute name.

So that's what
you got to be.

You're
my princess warrior.

All right. This gets really soft
back here, but you got to...

Okay.

Holy crap.
Look at that.

That's a big cat.

Oh, god. No.

Lucky for us,
they kind of hide,

But still, they're here,
and that's proof.

I'm a little terrified of all
the things that are out here.

-Okay. Watch these ants here.
-Okay.

But knowing that cory has so
much knowledge right off the bat

Make me feel
10,000 times safer.

Oh, my god.
See the snake over there?

Just moved
under the brush.

-Where?
-Right over there.

There's a log that's downed,
just kind of laying back there.

-Oh, yeah.
-He just went under.

How do you
even see that?

I'm terrified of snakes.

That, most likely,
fer-de-lance.

That one is the one that
we want to stay away from,

Except for meat.
That's food.

Oh, my god.
That's, like --

What happens
if you get bit by it?

That, right there,
is an instant tap.

Oh, my god.
Anastasia, look at this.

This is it.
This is where we need to be.

This is bamboo heaven.

This is what we saw
on the map.

-Okay. Okay.
-This is it.

So this is where
we're setting up shop?

Yeah. Yeah,
because the ground here,

It's really soft.

So today, we're going to work
mainly on the beds.

We've got snakes out here.

You don't want snakes
on you, right?

No!

So we're going to do our best
to not sleep with the snakes.

One, two, three.

There you go.

You want that to line up?

Yes. We're going to put
this one in the...

The bamboo hut is not coming
along the way I liked it.

It's taking a really long time.

It's starting to get me
a little scared,

But I have faith in him, though,

And I think it's all
going to come together.

The space.

How's the bed coming?

Oh, it's going.

I got it level-ish.

Cory: I've seen people do this
on previous shows.

And I feel like today
has been a, you know,

Little bit harder for me

Than I thought
it was going to be.

I mean, realistically,
all I'm doing is,

You know,
failing at building a bed.

But I look at it as today,
I learned a lot, you know?

All right.
Well, check it out, shelter.

We need to actually
get in it,

Make sure this thing
is going to stand up.

Okay.
Let's try this.

Well, it's holding because
I'm not holding much of it.

-Okay.
-Yeah. There you go.

Perfect.
-Okay.

Just like that.

*Bleep* *bleep*

Cory:
it's freezing cold outside.

Yeah. Monkeys are
aggressive, territorial.

You know, more than anything,
you know what monkeys do, dude?

-Hmm?
-Like, they'll go after my junk.

"You little guys,
let me grab you."

And they'll try
and take it.

They'll just take it, like,
"mine. This is mine now."

Other thing with those monkeys,
it was, like, bad.

I was assuming that I was
going to get attacked.

Cory:
I have to give a ton of respect

For everybody
who's ever done this show.

This show is hard-core.
-Yeah.

Nighttime was terrifying.

There's lots of scary
things out here.

It was pretty hard
considering we didn't have fire

Or a technical shelter,
anything like that.

So hopefully, today will be
a lot better,

Once we get one or the other.

So the technique I'm using
to start fire today

Is called the fire saw.

This is a technique
that I've just...

I've done a lot of research on,

But personally,
I haven't done it.

But, I mean,
it's friction, you know?

And I'm pretty confident
that this is going to work.

My priority right now
is fire, then shelter

Because I need the fire
to purify water.

That way, I can get something
to drink because I am thirsty.

I've actually used duct tape
a lot in my everyday life, like,

From surfboards and, you know,
around my house.

So I'm trying to make
a sexy duct-tape bikini.

I want to have some type
of protection from bugs

And all that kind of stuff.

Cory: it's close.

I'm happy with that.
I'm happy.

That means I've got
the right material.

Cute, no?

So that's your
confidence booster.

When I get this going,
that's my confidence booster.

All right.
I smell it.

-Ah!
-Almost there.

Ah!

Ah!
-Almost there.

Almost there.

Ah! Ah!

-Are you okay?
-Yup.

Not working?

No.

Anastasia: I don't really know
what's going on with fire

Because I don't have
much fire skills,

So I can't really talk,

But cory said he was
confident in doing it.

I feel that maybe
cory overstated his skill set

And maybe his knowledge

Of the materials
that were around.

So, obviously, we're getting
super dehydrated,

And we need
the easiest option,

And I think that easy
option right now

Is digging that gypsy well.
-Okay.

We're going to have to dig
one out by the river.

Wait. I mean, you're really
confident in doing that?

Yeah.

I have never done
a gypsy well.

I know the basics.

Narrator: a gypsy well,
also known as an indian well,

Is a 1-foot-deep hole dug
near a freshwater source.

As the hole fills with liquid
seeping through the soil,

The carbon in the dirt filters
out potential contaminants

Caused by mosquitos
and animal feces

That can cause serious
abdominal ailments.

A gypsy well is something
that I heard of

When I was just doing
a lot of research,

Trying to find different
ways to purify water,

And it's my first time
actually drinking out of one.

A little cup.

Oh, man.

Anastasia:
how's the cup holding up?

Ugh!

Not drinkable?

It's pretty bad,
tastes horrid.

At the same time,
man, it's water.

Ugh.
I don't like that.

I see stuff, like,
on top of the water.

Just think of it as, like,
a weird tea,

And you'll be all right.

Anastasia:
the river water tastes like mud.

If you can imagine what mud
or dirt tastes like,

It's like a dirt soup.

Well, hunger is
starting to kick in,

So I think I'm going
to start to look towards

What we're going to eat.

I would love to find
some coconuts.

I don't see any
coconuts here, though.

There we go, cohune nuts.

Oh, yeah.
I've seen these before.

I think these have a lot
of calories in them.

Hopefully, these are edible.

Cory: I think, so far, things
with anastasia

Have been pretty good.

Teamwork is number one.

Cohune nuts, we need these.

It's going to be
a great source of food,

And those are going to help us
replenish a lot of the calories

That we're losing doing this.

I think, together, we're going
to accomplish a lot.

-Shelter?
-Yeah.

Okay.

Narrator: with just 3 hours
of daylight left

And nighttime temperatures
in the low 50s,

Cory and anastasia
and turn their attention

To redesigning their shelter

To better protect them
from predators and the elements.

Anastasia: the sun is dropping,
so we got to hustle.

We still don't have
fire as of now,

But shelter is coming together.

Hopefully, we'll be
a lot warmer.

You guys at home, you want
to know what this is like,

What this is really like?

Try laying in your bathtub
while you're trying to sleep

With the shower running
on the coldest setting.

That's what this is like,
and it's much, much worse.

This is not fun and games.
This is serious.

I'm serious, like,
my body is shutting down.

I'm not going to be able
to sleep through this.

The rain sucked last night.

I don't know how many more days
or nights

I can make it without fire.

Okay.
I'll make it.

Otherwise, you might be
out here by yourself.

Ah!

We'll make fire today.

Cory: I feel like I've just been
failing too much

With the fire saw,
and I can't afford to lose her,

So I think what I'm going to do
is do the good old bow drill.

That's what I'm good at.

Turn this into, like,
a little twine, wind it up.

Oh, it looks good.

Definitely need fire
for drinking water,

And if we have another
rainy night or cold night,

So it definitely
needs to happen.

Ah!

-Oh, no.
-Way too hard.

It's doing nothing.

It's super frustrating to watch
the smoke come

And try for hours
and hours and hours

And not get any fire,

But I'm thinking
it's another fireless night.

Oh *bleep*

I don't know if I have
hyperther-- hypothermia.

I don't think so.

Yeah.
This *bleep* sucks.

I'm so over it.

This is the most
cold I've ever been.

Me too.

I live in alaska,
and this is not the same.

Cory: I never once thought
sleep deprivation

Was going to be this bad.

I feel like my...

My motor skills
are a little off, wacky.

If I don't get a fire today,

Then we're going to be
in some serious trouble.

Why is it...

It's not doing it.
There it is.

Cory:
coming into this challenge,

I was totally confident
in my ability to make fire.

Like, that was one
of my top three skills,

But I didn't realize
just how different things

Were going to be here.

I know, like, I know, and I feel
that I'm better than this,

But obviously, I'm not.

Yeah, but, again,
you got to remember, like,

You're not used to this...

-No.
-...area, and...

No. I never said I was
a survival expert,

But I don't want to tap
on day 4, dude.

-Right.
-That's embarrassing.

I think if anyone
was with us last night,

They would not say,
"that's embarrassing."

Yeah.

Narrator: with cory and
anastasia struggling to survive

In the freezing nighttime
temperatures,

Producers, concerned for their
safety, decide to intervene.

Our string broke.

Now, this has been an ongoing
struggle for 4 days, hasn't it?

I'm embarrassed by this.
I worked so hard.

Well, you don't want
to be embarrassed.

You've got nothing to be
embarrassed about,

Cory, or you,
anastasia.

You guys have given this
a really valiant try.

So I've got a suggestion,
which you might not like,

But if you want
to stay in this

Because I don't think
either of you want to go.

I don't really want to go.
I want to get this fire started,

So we don't have to.

This is a special exception
of circumstances here.

We have a firestarter.

We carry it in our field
kit all the time.

You can have this.

You can have fire
in 10 minutes.

Well, I have to let
my pride go

And just say, "go with it."

Good luck.
It's a smart decision.

Anastasia: I wasn't sure if cory
was going to accept

The firestarter or not,
but also, I know he knew

That that was going to be
the difference of us

Staying in or not.

Oh, gosh. Fire!

Oh, my gosh.
My wishes have been granted.

That's amazing.

Game changer.

Cory: so it's really early
in the morning,

And look at my face.
You see?

You see something
different here?

I'm smiling.
I feel really good.

I actually managed to get
some sleep last night.

How do you feel?

Tired...

Yeah?

...like *bleep*

I feel like
I could throw up.

Oh, yeah.
There's something wrong with me.

What happened?
You almost throw up?

I'm going to have to
throw up. Yeah.

Ooh.

Cory:
yesterday was my down day,

And I feel like anastasia
is having her down day today.

My arm is feeling
really weird.

Yeah. It's the lack of protein,
probably.

Your body is going
to start using muscle,

Like eating muscle.

Ugh.

Get you some fish.

I've never actually been fishing
with a mosquito net before,

But I've got
a pretty good idea

On how to catch fish with this.

I found some half-rotten
coconuts on the ground,

Which I'm going to use for bait.

Just going to wait until they
start really nibbling on this,

Stir up a little bit
of the coconut.

Yup.

Thank you for
feeding us tonight.

Would you be happy
if I caught a fish?

Yeah.

Would you be happy
if I caught 21 of them?

21?

21 Fish.

Wow.

Anastasia: cory is a really
caring, nurturing person,

So I'm feeling, like, not only
has been failing himself,

But he's failing me because
he wants to take care of me

And make sure I'm okay, as well.

Just pour the fish in there,
put some water,

Boil them up, all good.

Oh, yeah.
They're still moving.

Now I'm excited
to try this fish.

Cory: probably going
to be really soft.

Mm.

It's really good, actually.

Aw.

Really good, right?

Those are good.

Little bony,

But I don't care.

That's our protein,
right there.

We're getting eaten alive.

Narrator: attaining fire
is a mixed blessing

For cory and anastasia.

It provides warmth,

But the light and carbon
dioxide given off by the flames

Are attracting more biting
bugs than ever.

We're in a mosquito net,
you know?

Like none of this stuff
is supposed to happen,

But these little guys
are so small.

Anastasia: oh, my god.
Oh, my god.

Ugh.

Ah.

I don't know.

It's just every night
is so bad.

It's not getting better.

Oh.

This hurts.

I know.

Ugh!

Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.

Morning of day 6, and I've been
so bitten all over my body.

I don't feel good.

Oh, my god.

As I'm saying,
the bites are just so extreme.

I can't --
I can't do this anymore.

I'm, like, done.

I have to tap out.

Like, I can't stop itching,
and they won't stop biting.

Like, we didn't sleep
last night, again,

And I'm just, like, done.

Because I am an athlete,
and because I know

Not to push myself too much
physically

To the point where I don't want
to do damage,

And I don't want
to mess myself up

Because my body
is my temple,

And it's the most
important thing I have.

Cory:
in this situation, I understand
because this is unbearable,

Absolutely unbearable.

I don't know how you're
going to do it out here.

I have no idea.

Anastasia:
I totally underestimated
everything about this.

I would've never guessed

I would've tapped out
for sandflies.

I didn't even know
what they were.

-You 100% sure?
-Yeah. I'm done.

I can't handle it.
-Okay.

Thank you so much
for being amazing.

Oh, my god.
You were the greatest.

I'm definitely guilty of being
a fan

And misjudged how hard it was.

I thought I could conquer
whatever is thrown at me,

But I was wrong.

From years of being an athlete,

You win some, you lose some,
and you move on.

Emotionally, for me,
it's a humbling experience

And something that,
you know,

I definitely learned a lot from.

I can pride myself out here
saying that at least I tried

And went for it.

Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.

Ow. Ow.

This spot, this, right here,

This is,
like, sandfly central.

This is terrible.

Well, time to shop
for a new place.

Pbht!

Okay.

Yeah, no.
I just clear this out,

And then I got a nice big
flat spot to work with.

I think I found home.

This has now become
a new challenge.

This is a solo
survival challenge.

Part of me is, of course, really
bummed out that she went home

Because she's a very positive
person, very supportive.

But the other half of me,
I'm actually kind of excited.

I love a good challenge.

I am going to beat this place.

It's just you and me, belize!

Show me what you got!

Cory: * hey, little sparta,
what is with all the fight? *

* Little, bitty kitty
want to bite, bite, bite *

* Hey, little sparta,
what is with all the fight? *

* Little, bitty kitty
want to bite, bite, bite *

* Hey, little sparta,
what is with all the fight? *

My first night alone
was actually quite amazing.

I am refreshed.
I feel awesome.

I slept for, like,
10 hours last night, no joke.

I feel...

Oh, my god...ama--
I feel amazing.

Today, I'm going to hunt.

My body, I think,
is like, "protein!"

Because I had, like,
pizza dreams all last night,

But today is going to be good.

I feel it.

Well, I can't see anything,
but...

Hey. Look at this.

Let's get this bad boy.
Oh, he's big.

For my first solo meal,
escargot.

Not 100% sure
if it's edible.

I think it is, but because
I'm really hungry,

I think I'm just going to go
for it, take the risk.

Narrator: freshwater snails,
while high in protein,

May contain parasitic worms

That can cause flulike symptoms
and even paralysis.

If not thoroughly cooked,

The worms can live in the human
body for 3 to 5 years.

I'm just going to say that it
probably tastes like seafood.

Oh, holy crap.

That's really good.

I need more of those.

This is the most at peace

I've been since entering
the challenge,

And I'm at a level of peace
right now

That is just unheard of.

Being out here without a phone,
you know, without the internet,

Without connection to anyone

Has allowed me
to connect with myself.

And this is hard.

I mean,
this is ridiculously hard.

This challenge,
this is not easy.

But I think, by the end of this,

I'm going to be
a much stronger person,

A much more humble person,

Connecting with myself out here.

That's --
that's why I'm out here.

I'm finding my peace.

This is hell time.

It's freezing cold.

Oh, I really hope
morning is close.

I used up a lot of calories
last night shivering.

Now, I'm very much hungry
and very thirsty,

And to make things worse,
my fire...

That's it. It's out.

I am so glad I have
a firestarter now

Because trying to find
the materials

To get my stuff going
in this damp environment,

That would just take
so much longer.

So this firestarter,
absolute lifesaver.

I'm starting to get
a little frustrated.

Everything out here is so wet.

I can't even get
the firestarter to work.

Damn it.

I'm done with fire for a while.

Biting flies are back.

These flies are unstoppable.

Ugh!

Ah.

They feel like being
bitten by red ants.

They're relentless, dude.

Aw, damn.

* Little, bitty kitty
want to bite, bite, bite *

This time I don't have
anybody to talk to

When things get really bad,
but, yeah.

Things are starting to get bad.

Ah. Damn.

My body is drained.

Oh, man.

And I'm crying because
I'm thinking about my family,

How much I miss them.

Just keep seeing
my daughter's eyes.

She's only 8 months old.

And I've never been
away from her.

I'm just frustrated, tired.

Losing my focus.
I got to figure out what to do.

Coconut!

Maybe I can eat this one.

It has water in it.

Oh.

That was disgusting.

Oh! That's putrid.

Ugh!

Oh, it smells so bad.

Ugh.
I think I'm going to be sick.

Narrator:
youtuber and superfan cory

Has been alone
in a remote jungle of belize

For the past 3 days.

His partner, anastasia,
called it quits on day 6

After her body was ravaged
by more than 1,000 bug bites.

Anastasia's early exit drops her
psr from a 3.2 to a 2.7.

Starting with a psr of 3.9,
cory has been struggling

And is sinking in self-doubt.

I've lost my point of why
I'm doing this challenge.

Narrator: with 5 days remaining
until extraction,

Cory now faces a decision
at the crossroads of survival --

Take flight or fight.

This is probably the hungriest
I've ever been.

Man.

Any food right now
would be good.

I would love one
of those coconuts.

Coconut milk is something I
could desperately use right now.

Those would be
an amazing thing to have.

That's dangerous.

This was taught to me
in my survival class.

I'm going to make a bird trap.

Ouch.

I am hoping that
I catch something...

Because I sure
would like to eat.

Ugh.

My cord just broke.

Oh, man.

I just got to find
a stronger cord.

I mean, the design is here.

I think it's that whole "cory
almost made it" sort of deal.

Ugh!

The biting flies are worse
than they've ever been.

Oh, my god.
They're just swarming.

This is so bad.

Ugh!

I'm being eaten by bugs.

I've had things attach
themselves to my cornhole.

My man stuff has been
bitten so bad.

That's not cool, man.

They're biting me everywhere.

Oh! Oh!

Ugh. This needs to stop.

They're just eating me.

Argh!

Last night was really, really
tough, a lot of sandflies.

They're still here.

b*stards!

Right now, it's just...
I'm being tortured,

And that's all there is to it.

My body is drained.

I haven't slept in days,

And then I've got
extraction coming up.

I'm too tired.

Things are just
a bit much for me.

The hardest part about
being out here

Isn't getting shelter
or food or any of that.

It's being away from my family.

The rest is physical,
but the hard stuff is emotional.

I think I have to tap.

Coming out here,
I was like 110% sure

I was going to kick
this place's butt.

I was going to survive.

But I'm not a survivalist,
you know?

I'm a youtuber.

I may be book-smart, but,
you know, survival-smart?

Not so much.

As a huge fan of the show,

I will never see this show
the same again,

But I am glad
that I got to experience it

Because this is learning,

And I get to take
something home,

And now I get to apply
that lesson to something else.

This makes me a better person
in the end.

Narrator: after only a week and
a half in the belizean jungle,

Cory lost a total of 26 pounds.

Alone for 5 days,
frigid nights...

This is the most cold
I've ever been.

Narrator:
...and a massive onslaught

Of skin-ripping sandflies...
-Argh!

...ultimately took cory down

3 Days shy of his intended
goal of 2 weeks.

As a result, cory is sent home
with a final psr of 3.4

And a stark reminder...

Ugh!

Narrator: ...of just how
difficult it is to survive

Completely unplugged
from civilization.
