with one partner

Because I think
that every female
Should learn to be
independent and self-reliant.

I'm resilient.
I am strong, and I am outgoing.
I hopped on a plane
and went down
To the virgin islands
for three years.
I've lived in a tepee
for a while
With no electricity,
no running water.
It was total primitive living.

You can just be as self-reliant
as possible.

But I actually have never been
outside the united states,
So I'm very nervous.
Both of my children
are special-needs children,
And taking care of them
by myself
Has been a huge challenge
in my life.
I just want to show my boys
That no matter
what life throws at you,
You can overcome it with
perseverance and determination.

That's pretty much what she does

Bugs -- they're relentless

I was not expecting
to have to haul
Through the last week by myself.
I could not have called that --
three people would've tapped.
That's beyond me.
Kate: this is unlearning
everything you thought
You ever knew about
any survival skill
That you've ever had.

So mentally drained.

you only have a week left,
But I needed to.

of my shelter.
I'm just really bummed.
I just feel like I got left
high and dry,
And now I got to pull through
to the finish line on my own.
The taps came out of left field.
It's emotionally heartbreaking
and heart-wrenching.
First night by myself,
It really just started
monsoon raining out of nowhere.
It's definitely dropped,
like, 15 degrees,
And the wind
has really picked up.
It's freaking blowing so hard,
like, almost hurricane.
Oh, it's just blowing right
through my shelter,
And it's freaking cold.

I made it through a pretty
intense night last night.
I'm not feeling so hot.
My whole body is super sore.
My joints are sore.
Yeah, I'm hurting right now.
I would be lying if I said
I feel okay.

I don't think I've ever been
this sore in my life.
Having to take care
of other people
Made it kind of easy for me to
just neglect how I was feeling.
Hopefully I can get some more
sleep and feel better here.
I need some food.
I've only had a few shrimp
and a few coconuts.

I slept through
the last two days,
Still got a k*ller headache.
My body is *bleep*
insanely sore.
I think I'm just
super dehydrated.
I'm an athlete, so I depend
on my body a lot,
And the fact that my body
is so sore and so tired,
I can't really bank
on my body right now,
Which is kind
of disheartening.
We've been living off coconuts,
So I drink
a ton of coconut water,
But I'm in a tough spot.
It's a lot of work
to do this thing by myself.
It's 100 times harder,
Especially because
I went so hard
In the beginning to cover
for my other teammates.
Now I have to push through on my
own, and that makes it hard.
I should probably take a look
at extraction,
Should definitely see
what I have to do
In order to get out of here.

You can't get through that way.
It's pretty impenetrable.
There's black palm everywhere.
There's no way I can walk
through that,
No way in hell,
so it looks like
I'm gonna have
to build a raft.
It's gonna be quite a push.
It's definitely too far
to try to swim.
I better get to work.
Big old piece of bamboo,
Very dry,
Essential for this raft --
That will be excellent
for buoyancy.
I found this badass piece
of wood.
I think it'll make a pretty good
paddle once I carve it to shape.
I just got to give it
a little tlc.
It's not bad.

I've been collecting bamboo
for the last two days now.
I got a good amount, so I'm
about to make some magic happen.
I'm making
a bangka-style boat,
Which is a filipino
fishing boat.
It has the main beams,
And then it has pontoons
out to the outside.
I'm just gonna put one
pontoon on one side,
And that will prevent me
from flipping.
Took a whole lot of time,
but she's done.
Whew.

With the lack of protein,
my body is hurting right now.
I'm just, like, real sore,
lethargic.
You know, I really want to be
able to get protein today
To be in my body,
Coursing through my veins
when I'm pushing through.

Tide is coming in.

There's crabs here.
It's just been too murky
to catch them.

kind of battling the tide
The whole time.

these high seas.

to reach his extraction point,
Max must overcome a punishing
surf with 12-foot swells
And then fight a vicious current
for 4 miles in order
To meet his extraction vehicle
on an abandoned airstrip.
He'll also have to watch out for
highly aggressive tiger sharks.
These apex predators
can grow up to 15 feet,
And their serrated teeth
make them deadly hunters.

experiences I've ever had.
