And that is
right where we are going to be.

There is a very eerie feeling
to being out in the swamps.
It does smell like death.

ferocious alligators...

as many deadly snakes,

Daily storms
with gale-force winds
Can quickly cover up
the little dry land there is,
Disorienting even
the best navigators
And making it almost impossible
to stay dry.

That are watching me
that I can't see.

And taking on this challenge

You don't want to survive in?"

to more than 15 feet in length.

can deliver a bite

for up to 24 hours,
Dropping their heart rate to two
to three beats per minute,
Allowing them to lie in wait
for unsuspecting prey.

I know it's only been a few days
since we've been out here,
But we are already
feeling weak and tired.
It's just all-around colder
at night,
And we have to expend
all of this energy
To keep the fire burning.
I'm going on close to 48 hours
of no sleep,
And we're out here working hard,
So we definitely need
to find some nourishment.
We need some protein.

We're going on a walk to look
for any signs of food.
These muscles
need protein.

There's fish
everywhere here.

We are going to be working
on fish traps today.
There are clearly some
very large fish in this river,
And, hopefully, be grilling fish
in the next day or two.
Melissa: there's a really
good current in this river,
So the best type of trap
to do out here
Would be kind of
a current trap.
The design is really simple.
Basically, we take sticks
and make an enclosure,
And then we corral,
make a leading entrance
Into that circular enclosure.
The fish, they tend to stay
in that little pool area.
Jake: you don't even need bait,
because if a fish,
Turtle, bullfrog, whatever,
flows in there,
It's very challenging
for them to turn around,
Go upstream,
and find the narrow exit.
That's great.

Let it sit for a while.

They can drop into

of the situation.

have huge, powerful jaws,
So even a smaller one
can inflict some serious damage.
But with everything in survival,

risk vs. Reward.

feel anxious and disoriented.

Was something that I had
never dealt with before,
And once again, I learned
that I'm a complete badass.
Getting lost out here
was super-devastating.
Jake really helped me.
I honestly feel so blessed
to have had him by my side.

One of the scariest moments
of my life.
But I lucked out.
I truly got an all-star
with melissa as my partner.
I'm so proud of us.
We did awesome.
