Because I'm mentally tough.
Being a remote field biologist,
I have experience
In these remote
and often harsh environments.
They call it the toughest job
you'll ever love.
You have to put yourself
in a totally different mind-set
In those kind of situations
to be able to make it through.
I've had a lot of tough things
happen in my life.
My mom passed away
when I was 17,
My godmother passed away
from cancer,
And just a few months ago,
A close cousin of mine
was k*lled.
I don't really have
any immediate family anymore.
All of them, you know, wanted me
to live my life to the fullest,
And that's exactly
how I choose to live my life.
I don't want to have
an easy, peaceful life,
I want to endure the hardships
And know what it takes
to get through that.

I'm kind of obsessed

I think going slow is the key.

I do think that the difficulties
that I went through as a child

strong woman that I am today.
Growing up, my mom was an

So we basically were on

Coming into this challenge,
I definitely had the outlook
That people suck.
Seeing how much dan,
a complete stranger,
Took care for me and helped me
and be there for me
Showed me that not everyone
is that horrible.
And I should probably open up
a little bit more
And give a couple
more people a chance.
And I think we
*bleep* k*lled it.
We did. Super fans
can be experts, too.
Dan: this challenge would've
been way harder on my own
If I didn't have holly there.
And I didn't really realize
how significant a partner
Could be trying to survive
in a situation like this.
If you can't work and cooperate
with them,
Then you're essentially
on your own out there.

We did it.
Narrator: after a gruelling
14 days in the mayan jungle,
Holly lost a total of 18 pounds,
And dan lost a total
of 16 pounds.
No longer just super fans
but full-fledged survivalists,
Their psrs rise to 6.3
and 6.5.
I'm so glad
we finished together.
I'm feeling pretty good
about it.
Dan: I've lost a lot of people
in my life.
I like to
think that I can continue on
And make them proud
and be the best that I can be.
And I think
I've done that out here.
