Welcome to the jungle.

of unexplored rain forest.

The rugged, isolated terrain
is made more challenging

By the abrupt elevation change
from sea level to 8,000 feet,

Creating huge shifts
in temperature.

In the daytime,
it can be upwards of 90 degrees

With suffocating humidity,

Perfect conditions
for huge populations of insects.

At night, temperatures can
plummet by 20 degrees,

And sudden downpours
can make it feel even colder.

Nighttime also brings
the predatory jaguars.

Equipped with the best
night vision of all big cats,

They are at their deadliest
in the dark.

Right now, I am so nervous.

I'm so excited.

I don't know which one
I'm more of.

I am a law-enforcement detective
with the special victims unit.

I'm the one that goes,
gets the bad guys.

I am only 5'2",

But I'm the feistiest
little b*tch out there.

I was on the swat team.

I worked with
the r*fle security team,

Which I was the only girl
for six years.

I was repelling with these guys.

I was jumping from moving boats
to moving boats

Because I could not show
these guys that I was scared

Because if I did,
I would never live it down.

This challenge, it just seems
like it's right up my alley.

the next step for me.

Part of the reason I'm out here
is females in law enforcement,

A lot the times,
the guys don't think

That they're tough enough
to handle like the guys do,

And I want to show them
that I can do this.

I've been a badass pretty much
my whole entire life,

is only going to prove that

For six years, I was in the
army national guard as a medic.

I'm also a dog musher,

To the alaskan bush
for months, like,

Basically living out
of a wall tent with my dogs,

So I've had plenty
of experiences

Building fire or shelter.

I had pretty rough childhood.

I've always been different.

I definitely grew up just
kind of not fitting in.

I found refuge in nature
and being outdoors

Because honestly,

It wasn't always so nice
to be around other kids.

"Bullying" isn't even the word
I want to use.

It's more like "t*rture."

Having survived
that major life challenge

Gives me a pretty incredible
reserve to do this challenge.

I know that people
are rooting for me.

I know that some people
aren't rooting for me.

I want to prove

have been rainy.

It's frustrating because I want

So I can keep a fire going.

I'm going to grab
some warm rocks from the fire

And just try
to wait out the storm.

I place the rock by the fire
so it's warm.

Then when it's warm enough,
I bring it over by me,

And I transfer
some of that heat energy.

It's a good amount
of thermal mass.

They tend to last a while,

Goes a long way
to keep away hypothermia.

My foot is not going to heal
very well

If it's soaking wet
all the time,

So I want to make shoes
to try and protect my foot.

I think that I will just cut
this piece of leather in half

And make one for each foot

Each time I put them on.

I can walk again.

well under 2,000 calories.

I have been eating nuts
and stuff,

My survival strategy is
to be really creative,

My dogs eat plenty of bones,

And I think they get

to take a cue from them

And eat
some snake vertebrae

So I don't get
depleted of calcium.
