I'm a "naked and afraid"
maniac.

I've been watching
since season 1, episode 1.

That looks delicious.

I have seen every episode.

It is my go-to show.

Each time I watch, I'm looking
for something new to learn.

I am an absolute superfan.

[ Thunder booming ]

Narrator:
now, these extreme superfans
will attempt to survive 14 days

In one of the most extreme
locations, the amazon basin...

Molly: I can't do another night
like this.

Narrator:
...a vast tropical jungle where

The best of the best
have struggled

To make it the full 21.

Everything in the amazon
wants to k*ll me.

Maybe it is a midlife crisis,
but the desire

To learn survival skills
came in my mid-40s.

I stumbled upon the show,
and that turned into a passion,

And here I am
representing the fans.

I've had the pleasure
to do training

With matt and brooke wright.

First carp with a bow.

They've both been previously
on the show,

And I studied with them...

Yeah, you get a little ember
right there.

...so I do feel confident
to actually get out there

And try a lot
of the knowledge I've learned.

episode multiple times.

More "naked and afraid"

So I can get
caught up on what I missed.

A lot of times when I've seen
things on the show,

I'll go out
into the backyard.

I will try some of the things
that I've seen.

It's not breaking.

At this point in life,
I'm more of a dad.

And when people look at me,
they think just nerd.

But I've been a singer
in a '90s hair band.

I've even been a beekeeper,
for christ's sakes.

I am ready for my next
adventure.

In preparing
for this challenge,

I have been watching
the episodes in the amazon

To research everything that I'm
going to encounter in ecuador.

I really want to get out there
to prove to myself

That I have the skills

And the mental toughness to get
through a challenge like this

And not just sitting
on a couch

And being, you know,
armchair quarterback.

You woke up this morning

Having a little bit
of butterflies,

Because I have never been
in the jungle before.

I think even 14 days here
is going to be a challenge.

Molly:
I'm at a place where the best
of the best have come

And things
have taken them out.

So I think surviving here
will be very difficult.

I'm most concerned about
the dangers that I can't see.

I do know that there's
a few apex predators.

-Jaguars...
-...piranha...

-...giant anacondas...
-...flesh-eating bacteria,

...caiman lurking probably
a few feet from me right now.

The danger knows I'm here,

But I'm not sure
where it is right now.

That's a little creepy.

Narrator:
nate and molly have been
dropped into putumayo, ecuador.

This rainforest located
in the foothills

Of the andes mountains,

Is inundated with 10 feet
of rain annually,

Leaving the area
constantly flooded.

Piercing black palm needles and
more than 1,000 species of ants

Overrun the jungle floor.

One of the most well-known
species, the army ant,

Is known for its massive
predatory swarm raids.

If their trail is disrupted,

They are aggressive
and quick to sting.

The abundance of water carves
out swamps and rivers

Where black caiman,

Red-bellied piranha
and the green anaconda,

The largest snake in the world,

Patrol the murky waters.

Anacondas can grow up
to 550 pounds

And have been known
to devour whole jaguars.

My first impressions
of this location...

It's very wet.

I mean, it is the rainforest.

The humidity can make it
difficult for your skin to heal

And to dry out.

We have to really
be mindful of our feet,

And keeping a fire going
will be really important.

I have a little message
just saying "you got this."

This is just a little reminder
to keep me focused.

until you experience it.

So I have a whole new respect

For the survivalist

Molly: first night in the jungle

But I can't even explain
how much worse.

But I do feel lucky that I have
a really positive partner.

We are both embracing
this stuff together.

Until we can
purify our water.

As the water passes through
carbon and minerals

In the ground,
impurities are left behind.

Molly: I'm willing to be
the guinea pig

Because if I don't get water,

I think it'll take me out
if I get further dehydrated.

Nate: if you don't have water
within three days,

That's going to take you out.

If you have bad water, that's
also going to take you out.

Molly:

and the sleep deprivation

Is starting to get to me.

And so I have this issue
with my foot.

This mud keeps your feet moist
all the time,

Which is what causes
trench foot.

I've got these weird bumps
in them,

And then they're going down
between my toes,

So I'm really watching this.

I'm really worried.

I hope they heal,
because I do not want my feet

To take me out of the challenge.

Nate: I think what I want to do
is go down

And get some more water.

We can get it boiled.

I'd come, but I want
to keep my feet up and dry.

is lacking protein

Just because I get fatigued
pretty quickly.

You know, me walking down
this trail to get water

Is taking me longer
than I used to.

is really hitting me today.

struggling to just do

I'm really weak,

Just having trouble

This jungle has beat me down.

Every day has been so tough,

But we're so close.

I know that she's struggling
with the sleep piece of this,

with the environment.

It's very hard.
