[hopeful music playing]

You're back.

Yeah, I'm back.

[Logan] So…

Um…

You know, Hailey,

I told my mom
I like girls with curvy-straight hair,

but wait, before you answer,

your hair is fine just the way it is.

[Hailey] Mm.

-That's very nice.
-Thanks.

Yeah, I just…
I wanna know what you think about me.

Logan, I think you're, uh…

[suspenseful music playing]

…you're being and acting weird,
but it's okay to be weird.

But I really like you a lot.

And you're the nicest guy I ever know.

Thanks.

You're just…
You're just the most nicest girl.

[chuckles] Thanks.
It's… it's kind of my thing.

[hopeful music playing]

[server] Here's your check.

Oh, excuse me, I need your help.
Can I get a % tip?

[server] Of course. All you need to do
is write that first here on that line.

-[Logan] Like this?
-[server] Yep, that's perfect.

Then I'll just need
your best signature here, sir.

Wow. Oh my gosh.

I did it.

[server] You did. You keep your card.
Thank you for dining with me tonight.

-Thank you for having us.
-[server] Of course.

-Thank you.
-[Logan] We didn't have cheesecake.

But, you know,
we could split one sometime if you want.

I would like to have
some cheesecake with you.

Do you eat doughnuts?

[Logan] Yeah. You wanna know
who loves doughnuts? Homer Simpson.

I don't watch adult cartoons.

You're not allowed?

I hate
Family Guy
. I hate
American Dad
.

I hate everything.

Me too!

Really?

'Cause they're always saying bad words
and always doing nasty stuff.

Exactly. A lot of foul languages.

-Which I hate adult shows.
-I so have a lot in common with you.

-[Hailey] Mm!
-And you know something?

I don't need curvy-hair girls
to make me happy.

If there's… If there's anybody
in the world that makes me happy,

it's you, Hailey.

[chuckles]

That was… that was very nice
of you, Logan.

That's cool.

-You ready to go?
-Yeah.

[Hailey] Let's go.

[hopeful music intensifies]

[Logan] You know, I had a lot of fun. Um…

Did you?

[Hailey] Yeah, I do.

I really like you a lot.

Mostly.

Oh, that's great.

You're so nice, and you're so caring,
and you work with kids,

and I like… I really like you a lot.

[music fades]

It's great to see you, Logan.

Would you like to go
on another date with me?

I would like to go
on another date with you.

-Thanks. I mean, cool.
-[hopeful music resumes]

[Hailey chuckles]

I was wondering,
do you want a hug or a kiss?

-Hugs.
-Okay.

It was very nice to meet you.

-It was nice to meet you too, Hailey.
-Bye.

-Have… Take care of yourself.
-[Hailey] Bye.

Now, that's what I call dating.

[music fades]

[Cian] What's your greatest dream in life?

My greatest dream?

[pensive music playing]

Like, to, like, get married
and, like, have a family.

[Cian] When it comes to dating,
what are you kind of nervous about?

Um… that they won't like me
the same way I like them.

Like, you know,
kind of, like, nonreciprocal thing.

-[Cian] Has that happened to you before?
-Yes. Lots of times.

-[Cian] Aw!
-It's okay.

[Cian] Are you scared
of getting hurt again?

Yes, I'm scared of getting hurt again.
Very much.

But I know
that's part of the dating process.

[pleasant music playing]

[narrator]
In Provo, it's been a month
since Emma's date with Austin.

And today, she's stepping out
to meet someone new.

-[Emma] Hey, guys!
-Hey!

-Hey, Emma! Is it date time?
-Yeah!

-[Sydney] Aw, heck yeah!
-[Zanza chuckling]

-You're excited for this one?
-[Emma] Yes!

Were there any, like, awkward silences,
any awkward moments during the last date?

Yeah.

-Oh…
-[Emma] Yeah.

That's the worst.

[laughs] Yeah.

Which is why I'm, like, gonna do
some follow-up questions

so there won't be any awkward silences.

-That's smart.
-That is a smart way to approach it.

Yeah!

-[Zanza] This is a different guy.
-Yes. We're going to the Tulip Festival.

-Oh, that's so beautiful!
-Yeah!

Yes. So what do you want him
to be like? [chuckles]

[Emma] Okay, well, really funny.

And if, like, he quotes,
like, movies, oh yeah!

-Or TV shows, that'd be awesome!
-[Zanza] Oh yeah!

Yeah! Who knows?
You might find love today.

-Yeah! [giggling]
-[Sydney] Hey!

-Let's…
-Come here.

[all chuckling]

You're gonna do great,
and we're so proud of you.

-We're so proud of you.
-And we're so excited to hear everything.

-Oh heck yeah!
-Okay.

-See you, guys.
-You got this!

-Give Emma a good day!
-Give Emma a good day!

-[Emma] Yeah!
-[all chuckling]

[pleasant music playing]

[Emma] Nice.

Oh, nice!

That's nice.

[Cian] What are you hoping for
today, Emma?

Just good conversations.

-[Cian] Maybe some romance?
-Yeah!

Yeah, I hope that there…
that there's a connection.

Yeah.

[jaunty music playing]

[narrator]
Emma is meeting Eric.

He likes Adélie penguins.

-And musicals.
-
[woman singing]

[narrator]
He doesn't like hospital stays

or people getting eaten in movies.

-Hi there.
-Hi!

-How are you doing?
-Good. How are you?

-Good.
-Yeah.

-I'm Eric.
-I'm Emma.

-Nice to meet you, Emma.
-Yeah.

-Yeah, nice to meet you too.
-[both chuckle]

Yeah.

[Eric] Hmm.

So, um, how's your day been?

-It's been good.
-Yeah! I'm glad to hear that!

-How was your day?
-So far, it's been good.

I can't complain. The weather's nice.

Yeah. [chuckles] Beautiful day.

-I like your shirt. It's really cool.
-Thanks.

Yeah.

-Wha--
-Yeah.

-It's… [chuckles]
-[giggles]

-Quite the dusty wind.
-Yep!

-Yeah. Yeah.
-Wha--

-It's… [chuckles]
-[giggling]

-[man] Where can I sit?
-[Cian] Sit on the edge of the bed there.

-Here?
-[Cian] Yeah.

Okay.

Okay, I'm a little nervous.

Maybe just sit, put my Crocs down,
and then we can get started.

Should I say my name,
or should I wait for the camera to start?

-[Cian] The camera's already started.
-Oh, right!

Hello, you guys! My name is Dylan.

I'm years old,
and I live with my mother,

and ever since, I wanna find love.

[Cian] How would you describe yourself?

Myself will be kind and goofy and funny

and a warm person and a street guy.

You know what a street people is, right?

-[Cian] Street?
-Yeah, like, in the streets.

[Cian] Oh, like…
Yeah, are you, like, a gangster?

Exactly! [chuckling]

Like, "Yo, what's up, whatever,"

or "I'm cool with that, I'm cool with it,"
or whatever.

[Cian] Oh. You wanna find love?

Yes, sir, I do.

And I wanna find my princess.

-[Cian] Have you ever been on a date?
-Never, no, sir.

[Cian] Do you think
you've got a lot of love to give?

Oh, I ha… Yeah, I have so much love
to give because my heart is safe and warm.

[narrator]
Dylan lives with his mother
in Los Angeles.

[Dylan] This is my room, Cian.

This is, um, the projector,

and this is… this is my bed,
and this is my mom's bed.

Watch this. Turn on.

Oh, this thing won't turn on.

Give me a second.
It needs to turn on. Turn on!

On already!

Okay, we don't need to worry about that.
It will be fixed soon.

Now, this is my practice girlfriend
for cuddling and hugging, per se.

[Cian] Your practice girlfriend?
Does she have a name?

No, there's no…
Non-name. Non-name, per se.

-[Cian] Unnamed pillow girlfriend.
-Unnamed girl. Yes, thank you, Cian.

-[gentle music playing]
-As you can see, this is my living room.

This is the go… [clears throat]

This is the golden microphone
I've been getting

since last… two years ago on my birthday.

It says, "Karaoke night.
It's good to be the king."

-[Cian] Who's the king?
-I am, so what is the concern?

Watch this.

You know if you're tired,
or in the afternoon,

you feel tired or even want a thirstiness?

Watch, the magic begins.
The magic will begin.

[water pouring]

Then, boom, water's there, and you drink!

Magic water!

[Cian] How much time
do you spend on your own?

Well, since Monday to Fridays
and every dailies,

and while my mom goes to work
sometimes in the week,

and I have to stay here and watch TV,
like a… like a maniac or something.

[Cian] How many hours a day
does your mum work?

Eight-thirty through eight…
eight o'clock p.m.

-[Cian] Oh, so you're alone a lot.
-Thank you. I appreciate it, Cian.

-[Cian] Do you get lonely by yourself?
-Oh, sometimes.

My pillow friends will be there,

and I call them pillow friends
because I need company.

And I sit here in my spot like,
"Ooh yeah, that's the stuff."

That is the stuff.

And this, you turn on the telly.

Let me explain and turn on the telly.
Watch this, Cian. Ready?

Magic TV on.

[mystical music sting]

Okay, one more. It takes time. Ready?

On.

Magic TV on.

[uneasy music sting]

Damn, this thing won't turn on.

-Hi, Dylan.
-[Dylan] Hi, Mom.

-Come and help me, please.
-Sure, Mom, as you insist.

Coming.

-How was your day?
-Good.

Um, Cian, this is my mom. You may know.

Just now, we were talking about
where you're from and where you work.

-[chuckles]
-Oh, you di…

And you tell him where I am from.

Yeah, Guatemala. I told him.

And do you tell Cian where's your…
where your daddy's from?

Yeah, I told him El Salvador,
so I'm half-and-half.

So we're from Central America.

Central America, I didn't tell him that.
Cian, we're from Central America, per se.

[pleasant music playing]

[Cian] What does Dylan needs to work on
when it comes to dating?

What do you think
will be the challenges for him?

[Dylan giggling]

[Dylan and mom chuckling]

[mom] You know… You know the best, Dylan.

[Dylan giggling]

Work on, uh, being gentle.

-Be… be a gentleman. Be, um…
-[Dylan] Sure.

Here, throw that, please. Thank you.

Using manners.

I don't need a book for that, so I'm good.

Dylan, you're gonna be afraid
to hold hands with a girl?

Yeah, hold hands and stuff.

Probably the biggest challenge is gonna be

kissing the girl.

Oh, like
The Little Mermaid
.
Please don't make that reference.

Don't say that reference in front of Cian.

I'm so sorry, Cian,
about that kissing girl part.

If you have young children, adults,
or people, whoever you are,

this is my time to leave the room
for saying that.

Your cheeks turns red!

-[Dylan laughs loudly]
-[mom giggling]

[intriguing music playing]

[narrator]
In Plant City,
Madison is at Tyler's house,

where he lives with his parents,
Tim and Brenda.

So right now, we're at Tyler's house,
and we're gonna have some dinner together.

Yes.

[Cian] Do you spend much time
at Tyler's place, Madison?

Yes. We… we spend a lot of time here
and at my apartment.

Yep.

[Madison] I've already shown off
all my dolls, all my beads.

Now it's Tyler's turn
to show off his NASCAR collection

and his cowboy hats.

-Let's do it.
-[jaunty music playing]

So now here is Tyler's hat rack.
He has, like, three hat racks total.

-[Tyler] Oh yes.
-I gave Tyler this hat for Christmas.

Yep.

-[Cian] Wow, there's a Christmas tree.
-[Tyler] There is.

[Cian] So you're as passionate
about Christmas as Madison.

Yes, sir, absolutely.

So here's my NASCAR stuff.

This is from my all-time favorite
NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon.

This is his Pepsi Chevy
from the Pepsi

at the Auto Club Speedway, where
he finished second to Jimmie Johnson.

So this is Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s
Coca-Cola car

from the exhibition race in Japan,
where he raced against Dale Sr., his dad,

the first-ever time
they raced against each other in NASCAR.

And this is Dale Sr.'s
race-winning Diehard car.

This is when he got
that th and last win of his career,

when he went from th to first
in four laps to get the win at Talladega.

Tyler knows as much about NASCAR
as I know about Disney princesses.

I have gone to some car shows
for Tyler though.

[Tyler] Guess what else you did?

I had to go to the car dealership
for Tyler.

Stingray Chevrolet when I got
my new Chevy Trailblazer with me.

[gentle music playing]

-[Tyler] Hey.
-[Brenda] Hey!

[Madison] I hear Chick-fil-A
is for dinner tonight.

Yep. Does your mom and dad
like Chick-fil-A?

They love Chick-fil-A.

[Cian] How do you guys feel
about Madison and Tyler as a couple?

Oh, we love it.

-We're super excited. Yeah.
-[Tim] Very much so.

-And we love Madison. We love her.
-We do.

And Tyler and her
seem to balance each other so well.

It's awesome.

It is awesome.

It's just been wonderful just to sit back
and just to watch them grow together.

I love you guys too.

-We do love you, Madison.
-We love you, Madison.

[Madison] Mom and Dad are here.

Hello!

-Hey, guys!
-Hey!

Wow, you do have a big Christmas tree.

Hey, sweetie.
You been having fun over here today?

-[Madison] Yes.
-Good.

Hey, how are you? Good to see you.

-Hey!
-[Jenny] Hi!

[Brendan] Hey. How are you?

-Doing all right.
-Doing great.

-[Jenny] These are for you.
-Oh, thank you! They're beautiful.

[Brendan] He wasn't kidding
about the big Christmas tree.

-There was two of them.
-[Madison] Yeah, there was in the foyer.

-[Tyler] Yeah.
-Thank you for making her feel so welcome.

-Oh, we're so glad to have her.
-She got acclimated here really quick.

[Jenny] It's been wonderful.
She made some friends

and all the gigs
she gets to join Tyler on…

-Yes.
-That's right.

[Madison] Tyler told me the other day
that he tried out

for
America's Got Talent
,
The Voice
,
and
American Idol
when he was in school.

-That's incredible, Tyler.
-[Tyler] I did.

A long, long time ago.

You've got all the keys
and the musical notes,

like, naturally in your… I mean, that…

-Still to this day…
-That's right.

It, like, blows my mind
how he can just remember.

[Brendan] Madison can remember
anyone she's ever met,

and she remembers their bio.

It'd really come in handy.

We would go to the grocery store,
someone would come our way,

and I couldn't remember their name.

I'm like, "Madison, Madison,
who is this coming up?"

And she would give me birthday,
you know, hometown, name, everything.

First name, last name. Like, I remember
random people from high school.

[Brendan] Yeah.

So how is… Everything good with you guys?

I can't believe it's almost been a year
since we've started dating.

This will be my first-ever anniversary.

I can't even believe it.
I don't even know what we're gonna do.

Well, I think you might like
what we're gonna do.

Yeah, I'm hoping so.

-Oh yeah.
-[parents giggling]

[barks]

[intriguing music playing]

[Neith] But I always just put…
I don't put anything after.

-Oh!
-Oh, here's the handsome boy.

-What's up, you guys?
-[Jocelyn] What's up?

-[Logan] Hi.
-[Neith] Hi.

Hi.

-Let's dive in. How was the date?
-It was great.

-Okay.
-[Jocelyn] Oh, was it?

-Okay.
-It was.

-Wow!
-[Logan] And you know what?

I'd like to just keep Hailey
for as long as I need to, Mom.

-Oh.
-[Neith snickers]

Okay, well,
would you like to share more details?

Her name's Hailey,
and she's … and she's .

Okay.

And she works at a cafeteria at school.

Oh, nice, okay.
What is she like? What did you talk about?

She's not allowed to watch
Family Guy
.
I'm not allowed to watch
Family Guy
.

[Neith and Jocelyn laugh]

I love that. Not that you're not allowed,
you can, but, you know…

That's what makes her a nice person, Mom.

-[Jocelyn] Is it? Okay.
-Oh, okay.

-Are you getting a little misty there?
-Kinda smitten.

-Yes, I am.
-[Jocelyn] Oh, you are! Oh, okay.

[Neith] He's not getting misty.
He's doing dramatics.

No, I
am
getting misty.

[Jocelyn] Tell us some other things…

We shared a chicken Parmesan.

Did you invite yourself
upon her chicken Parmesan?

Or did she say, "Would you like some?"

I kind of asked if I could have a piece.

Okay, Logan, that's what you do
when we go out to eat.

You order your food,
and then I order mine,

and then before
he even digs into his food,

he's like, "Neith, can I try that?"
"What about the food you ordered?"

He always digs into mine first. Okay.

-This isn't about you.
-[Neith and Jocelyn laugh]

Touché. Touché. Okay.

[Logan] I liked being with her.

I wanna keep dating her
even if she's a lunch lady, Mom.

[Neith and Jocelyn giggle]

I love that you don't discriminate.

And, Neith, she's nice and well-behaved,
just like you.

[Neith and Jocelyn snicker]

Well, thank you.

That wasn't a joke, but…

-[Neith] No, I'm like…
-I know. You're serious.

I know it wasn't a joke.
I'm touched, honestly. Thank you.

You seem like you k*lled it.

I did.

[Neith] Okay. Proud of you.

Thanks, Neith.

She's just a nice person,

and I don't really care
if she doesn't have curvy hair.

Her hair is straight,
and it's better than curvy hair.

[Jocelyn] Yeah, I… Yeah.

Straight hair girls are okay,
in my opinion,

and she's the most straight hair girl
I've ever met.

-[Jocelyn] Okay, all right.
-I don't ever wanna stop seeing her.

Oh!

[Logan] You should've seen me, Mom.
I was great,

and I treated her like… she was my friend.

[Jocelyn] I'm proud of you.
I'm very proud of you.

-I couldn't have done this without you.
-[Neith and Jocelyn chuckle]

Oh, you're so sweet! Aw.

Mom, she's such a nice girl.
Um, I really hope I can see her more.

I hope you do too, sweetheart.
I hope you do too.

[Neith] All right.
Does this change anything with… uh, Tifa?

I… I'm not gonna mention her anymore.

No more talking about her, okay?
I don't want this to become a big thing.

[Neith] All right, got it. Who's Tifa?

-I don't remember her.
-Stop it.

She's the perfect person for me, Mom.
We have a lot in common.

Ooh, when's the wedding?

[Neith and Jocelyn chuckle]

Well, let's hold on.

She hasn't said anything yet.

[strong wind blowing]

[pleasant music playing]

-[Eric] Nice.
-[Emma] Yeah! Mm-hmm.

-[Eric chuckles]
-[Emma] Hmm.

Okay. So, um, do you have any hobbies?

-Yeah, I do like to draw on occasion.
-Oh, nice.

Nice. I do writing.

-Me too.
-Oh, really? Oh, I love that.

-What kind of stories do you write?
-Kind of like… Do you know fan fiction?

-Yeah, I do.
-Oh, good. Good, good, good, good. Good.

-I'm trying to write a book right now.
-Oh, really? Awesome. What is it about?

Oh, it's kind of
a supernatural romance story.

Oh, nice!

Cool! You don't… You don't…
You don't often hear those.

-Oh, really?
-You know, that I know, but, you know…

-Yeah.
-But that's awesome!

[Eric chuckles]

Yeah, this wind seems
a tad, skosh too much.

-Yeah.
-You wanna, like, walk around?

-[Emma] Yeah, sure. Yeah, sure.
-And get out of the…

[Emma] Are you LDS?

-[Eric] I am. I grew up LDS.
-Oh, nice! Same here.

[Eric] Nice.
So I assume all those are tulips.

[Emma] Yep.

-[Eric] Yeah, look at these flowers.
-Oh yeah, they're nice. Yeah, purple.

[Eric] Yeah, it'd kind of be nice to have,
like, your own stream in your backyard.

[Emma] Totally. Yeah, that'd be awesome.

-Yeah, ju--
-Like--

Oh, it's okay. Go ahead.

-Oh, sorry.
-No, it's okay. Go ahead.

Uh, I have a field in my…
that's just right out of my backyard.

-Oh, really? Nice.
-There's sheep.

-[Emma] That's nice.
-Mm-hmm.

[Emma] Yeah, that's nice.

[hesitant music playing]

[jaunty music playing]

[James] You're okay? You got everything?
You mean it, honestly? It's okay?

-[Shelley] Yeah.
-Good.

[narrator]
At America's
oldest operating inn,

James and Shelley have arrived
for a dinner date.

[James] I'm trying to prioritize you
and your feelings

'cause that's what you do
in a relationship.

You put the other person
ahead of yourself, so…

Ooh, good. LEDs. Nice.

-[Shelley] Wow, this looks really nice.
-It's pretty cool, right?

It dates at least to the time
of the American Revolution,

possibly earlier than that.

Hopefully, they've upgraded
the plumbing and electricity

to modern conveniences.

-I have to imagine they've done that.
-It does look like it has been updated.

Maybe a little bit. Hard to say,
but, yeah, not too bad, not too bad. So--

-You always say, "Not too bad."
-[James] Oops.

-Oh, does that bother you?
-[Shelley] No.

Okay, good, good. Anyway, we still have
approximately a half hour

until our dinner reservation.

So… And over here,
they have a chapel or something. Yeah.

-[Shelley groans]
-Oops! Sorry. Wait.

-Are you okay, Shelley?
-[Shelley] Yes.

[James] Okay,
so let's see what this sign says.

Maybe that sign right there can give us
some directions. Not too bad.

-[Shelley] "Martha Mary Chapel, ."
-[James] Ooh!

I actually don't know the exact difference
between a chapel and a church.

I'll have to look it up at some point.

-[buzzing]
-[Shelley] Is that a nest or something?

That's a hornet nest.
There's another hornet's nest there too.

[Shelley] There's another one.
And there's…

-Is that another one?
-There are a few hornet's nests up there!

It seems whoever owns this place
does not maintain it

if that many hornet's nests
have been allowed to be built.

Uh, yeah, we might want to…

I think we… I would like to… I would like
to get away from here pretty soon

because of all those hornet's nests.
I've been stung by hornets in the past.

-[Shelley] Oh, really?
-Yes. You ever been stung by a hornet?

-[Shelley] Not by a hornet.
-Oh, good. Lucky you.

[romantic music playing]

I… I, um… I… I…
I always enjoy being in your presence.

Obviously… Obviously, I enjoy
just making eye… gazing into your eyes.

I'm sorry. Good. See, you're laughing.
You're smiling, Shelley.

-Yeah.
-[James] Good. Good. Um…

Staying in front of this church
made me think.

You… Have you ever noticed
how, at most weddings,

the groom enters first
with all his groomsmen or ushers?

-Yeah.
-Not much fanfare as the groom enters.

But then when the bride enters,
there's amazing fanfare.

But more often than not, the…

Have you noticed
how the bride's father walks with her,

then presents her to the groom?

Doesn't that seem so horribly sexist

and misogynistic or patriarchal
or any combination thereof?

You know, it's like… it's like,
symbolically speaking,

the bride is
being handed from one man to another.

That's horrible.

I mean, wouldn't it make more sense

for the bride and groom
to enter together side by side,

showing that they're equals?

I… I would want to wear a white suit,
a white tuxedo.

You don't have
any objection to that, do you?

It's your wedding. Do what you want to do.

Oh, right.
Well, I'm hoping it'll be
our
wedding,

but we're not there yet.
It's too early to be talking about that.

Previously, I said that I want to be
the center of attention.

I want… I want everyone to focus on me.

I really should not have said that.

It made me look
extremely arrogant and self-centered.

Of course I'd let you be
the center of attention, Shelley,

as long as you're okay.
Are you the sort of person…

Do you like being
the center of attention, Shelley?

Mmm… Not really.

I mean, with everyone looking at me,
that's bound to be overwhelming. But…

[James] Let us support each other,
give each other strength. It's like…

-Okay.
-Let me think of a good analogy.

Like in the second Indiana Jones movie,
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
,

when the Sankara stones
were brought together, they glowed.

They were synergistic.
Our relationship is symbiotic.

One of us is the tree,
the other is the sun.

Each of us feeds off… Oh, wait, no, no.
That sounds… That sounds a bit creepy.

Oh, it's almost time.
Our dinner reservation is coming up soon.

We better be getting
to our dinner reservation. Yes, yes.

The gleaming rays of the sun
remind me of your hair,

and the clear blue sky
reminds me of your eyes.

You don't mind me saying that,
do you? Good.

-Yeah, thank you very much, James.
-Good. Yes, yes.

All right. Oh, are you okay?
You didn't stumble just then, did you?

-No,
you
stumbled. Did you not?
-Oh, I did? Um…

-I didn't stumble.
-Oh, okay. Good, good.

[James mutters]

[airplane flying overhead]

[buoyant music playing]

-[Dylan's mom] Good morning!
-[Dylan] Good morning!

-Cheers, Dylan. Today is the day!
-Yes. Cheers!

[narrator]
In Los Angeles, Dylan is about
to step out on the first date of his life.

-Excited.
-Yes.

Me too. I can't imagine
my baby's gonna do this.

[chuckling] Yes!

-Dear God.
-[mom] It's amazing.

Yes, I know it's amazing.

-I can tell you're very nervous.
-Yes, Mother.

But don't worry. I can handle this.

I've been watching
of
Love Island
, pretending.

Love Island
is this show on Peacock
I've been hearing… I hear about a lot.

[Cian] You're getting dating tips
from
Love Island
?

Yes, Cian.

You learned some stuff from them?

Yes, something about
treating a girl nicely.

[Cian] You think they treat each other
nicely on that show?

Well, in a per se, yes,
but every other way, no.

[mom chuckles]

Should we get ready, Mom?

-If you're ready, I'm ready.
-Let's get ready.

You should get your boots, your hat.

[Dylan] Okay.

Ready.

Whoa, this is it!

[Dylan] Yeah, this is it.
Here, let me get my boots ready.

Ouchie. Okay.

-Yes.
-[mom] I remember this.

[in Spanish] Your grandmother used it,
and so did my grandfather Kiko.

[in English] Yep.

-[in Spanish] Handsome!
-[in English] Yes.

[in English] Um, okay, let me see this.

-Ouchie!
-Nice!

Ouch.

[in Spanish] Fix your mustache.

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Let's see, a little spin.

[in English] Wow! I guess you're ready.

The pink hat's
for the… the… the pretty lady.

Thank you for everything, Mom.
I appreciate it.

You're very welcome. I'm so happy for you.

-[Dylan] Thank you.
-[kisses] Aw!

Okay, now I'm ready. Goodbye, Mom.

[in Spanish] The hat?

[Dylan in English] Oh, right, right.
Sorry about this. Goodbye now.

-Bye,
hijo
. I love you.
-Love you.

[mom] Have fun.

I feel sad. [chuckling]

I didn't expect that so soon,
but I'm happy for him.

[in Spanish] From the bottom of my heart,
I want Dylan to be very happy

and to experience all the things
that a typical person does.

The experiences that one has
when they're young.

Falling in love.

Wanting to have a boyfriend or girlfriend.

And so I want him to go through
the same experiences that all boys do.

[pleasant music playing]

[Eric chuckles]

-It's really windy out here.
-Yeah.

Do you work anywhere?

Yes, I do. I work at my school.
It's called ScenicView Academy.

-Oh, nice.
-Yeah. Yeah.

It's a school for kids on the spectrum.
It's really… It's really cool.

Oh, nice. I, uh…
I do work at a dental lab.

Oh, you do?

-Yeah.
-Nice.

[Eric] I'm more of the lab assistant.

Ah, right. That… That's cool.

-Yeah.
-Yeah.

[Eric] I am an actor too.

-Oh, cool!
-[Eric] Mm-hmm.

That's nice. That… That's really cool.

Yeah, I've, uh, been onstage.

-Oh, really?!
-And a few films.

Oh, nice!

-Do you have, like, a favorite movie?
-[Eric] Yeah, I do.

-You do? What is it?
-[Eric] Um…

Lemony Snicket
.

Oh! You mean, like, the Jim Carrey one?

-Yeah, the Jim Carrey one.
-Oh yeah. He's really funny. Yeah.

-Yeah.
-He's… he's really funny.

-Should we go sit down?
-[Eric] Yeah.

-Ladies first.
-[Emma] Thank you.

[Eric] This seems like
a good place to sit down.

-[Emma] Yeah, cool.
-[Eric] Yeah.

Nice and breezy.

-[snickers]
-Lemon squeezy.

-[laughs] Yeah, that's nice.
-[chuckles softly]

So what do you like to do on the weekends?

Me? Um… Sometimes,
I like to do voice impressions.

-Nice.
-Impersonations.

-Yeah.
-Those are fun to do.

-Yeah, those are fun.
-Mm-hmm.

I actually… I came up with, like, um,

Mickey Mouse as Darth Vader.
Do you wanna hear it?

-Definitely.
-Okay. Okay.

[suspenseful musical sting]

[as Mickey Mouse] I am your father,
Luke. Ah-ha!

-Nice.
-[as self] Yeah.

[as Mickey Mouse] Join me and together
we can rule the galaxy as father and son.

-No!
-[laughing]

[as self] Yeah.
I also did Donald Duck as Luke.

-Do you wanna hear it?
-Totally.

Yeah.

[as Donald Duck] No! No! No!

[giggles]

-Awesome.
-[giggles, as self] Yeah.

Me… me and my sister
usually like to quote
SpongeBob
.

Oh, really? You do?

-Chocolate!
-[laughing]

-[Eric chuckles]
-[laughing]

Or when SpongeBob is like, "Patrick,
that's the name of the restaurant."

Fish paste!

[laughs] Yeah.

Do you have,
like, a favorite sound effect?

-I do like the lightsaber sound effect.
-Like… [whooshing]

-Mm-hmm.
-[continues whooshing]

[mimicking electronic twanging]

[Emma laughing loudly]

Yeah.

I've really been having a fun time
on this date so far.

Oh, really? I'm glad.

-Glad to hear that.
-Yeah, I'm having fun as well.

-[Eric] Thank you.
-Yeah. Yeah, sure. No problem.

-You're welcome. Sorry. [chuckles]
-[giggles]

-No, it's fine. You're good.
-Yeah.

-Sometimes, I stumble my words.
-[laughs]

It's okay. It's a natural thing to do
when you're nervous.

-Mm-hmm.
-I do that as well. It's fine.

-[Eric] Cool.
-[chuckles] Yeah.

-[Eric chuckles]
-[Emma chuckles]

[hopeful music playing]

[music fades]

[intriguing music playing]

-What do you guys think about these two?
-[Tim] Mm!

-I'm so excited.
-Did you think this would ever happen?

-No.
-No.

[chuckling] We didn't either.

-[Tim] No.
-Yeah.

One of our biggest fears was,
um, him being lonely.

-[Brendan] Yeah.
-[Jenny] We feel the same.

From the beginning, we didn't even know
if Madison was gonna talk.

And then we just worried
if she was gonna be able to make friends,

and never in a million years did we think
that she would be dating someone

and be in love with someone
in, like, over the course of one year.

It just seemed like it was so far away
and almost unattainable at times,

and it's like a… just a gift.

-[Tim] Yeah.
-So we're just so grateful.

-We just adore you, Tyler.
-[Tim chuckles]

-Thank you.
-You're an easy guy to adore. Come on.

-[Tim and Brendan chuckle]
-I'm glad I found her too.

Remember when we were having
our anniversary when you were growing up?

What did we make us do?

-[laughs] Dance.
-We had an anniversary dance.

Yeah, Tyler and I are gonna have to start
doing that every year.

-Oh yeah.
-We're gonna have an anniversary dance.

-Right.
-Do you have a song?

I'm thinking about, like,
Tim McGraw, George Strait.

-Yeah.
-They have epic love songs.

-[Tyler] They do.
-For sure.

Oh yeah.

-I want a song called "Oh Yeah."
-[parents laugh]

That's what I want.
Just have a little riff.

-"Oh yeah!"
-[Tyler] That's right.

That's why Madison likes him so much.

She's used to Mom and Dad
saying no all the time, so…

-Are you spoiled, Madison?
-Oh yes.

-[cackles] Yes!
-[all giggling]

[Brendan chuckling]

Every once in a while, you have to say no.

-Okay.
-It's okay.

-Sorry, Madison. [laughs]
-[Tyler] Well…

-I have a hard time with the word "no."
-[Brendan] I know.

That's why I think
y'all get along so well.

[all chuckling]

[Brendan] Madison's also learning about
financial management.

That's been a challenge for us
because I would put money in her account,

and then it would just disappear
like that.

I'd be like, "Madison,
what are you spending all this money on?"

-It was crickets. Okay?
-[Tim] Right.

She's supposed to be going to class.
"What are you shopping for?"

We went to visit her,
and, uh, I walked into her dorm room,

and it looked like
Chuck E. Cheese had exploded in there,

like the… like,
like the prize table had exploded.

[Tyler laughing]

-You…
-He is not exaggerating. [chuckles]

You know the stuff you win?
Like erasers and little fidgets

and plastic spider rings.

Yeah. And coloring books.

And we were like
"Where did you get this stuff?"

Madison was going… In between class,

she would go across the street
to one of the dollar stores

and just go in there
and buy something, and…

I couldn't get her to stop doing it,
so I told Madison,

"I'm gonna take a picture of you
to the store."

He really did!

And I'm gonna say,
"Do not sell this person anything."

-"Do not… If you see her coming…"
-[parents chuckling]

We're doing a better job
of that these days, aren't we?

Yes, we are.

[Brendan] That's another area
of Madison's experience.

-Lots of growth.
-Good job.

-Good. Good.
-Absolutely.

Yes.

[Spaghetti Western music playing]

Oh, interesting set.

Interesting set.

It's a little nerve-racking,
but I can handle it.

Um, this is the place of the movie ranch.

Um, it's just like
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
,

except… but the set is nice
and hot and beautiful.

[Cian] How you feeling, Dylan?

Good. I'm a little nervous.

I'm just so happy to see her.

[soaring music playing]

[narrator]
Dylan is meeting Caroline.

She likes playing the glockenspiel

and puppets.

She doesn't like
bathroom sensors that don't work

[man groaning]

…or close talkers.

-Hello.
-Hi.

-[woman] Hi. What's your name?
-Dylan.

Hi, I'm Caroline. Nice to meet you.

[Dylan] Nice to meet you.

This is really cool.

-Thank you.
-[Caroline] Yeah.

Um…

Do you, uh…

I like your outfit. It's really cool.

Thank you. Thank you, Caroline.

Yeah, it's… it's all Western.
That's really cool.

-Thank you.
-Yeah.

Thank you.

-Yeah.
-[Dylan] Thank you.

-Oh, that's for you.
-Oh, thank you!

Aw! [chuckles]

-Can I wear it?
-[Dylan] Sure.

Here. Allow me. Here. Okay. This…

If you understand it, wear it. So…

-So…
-I like it.

[Dylan] Thank you.

[Caroline] You and I both have hats now.

Um… Do you like listening to music?

Oh, yes, I do.

-Taylor Swift sometimes, typically.
-Oh yeah. She's awesome.

Oh yeah. I got some badges for you.

Which one is it for you?
There's a deputy, and there's a sheriff.

Oh, that's cool.

-The deputy.
-Here. Good.

Thank you.

Good.

How do you fasten it to this thing?

Should we go to the whirly thing,
Caroline?

[Caroline] Sure.

[romantic Western music playing]

[Caroline] So,

um…

-So…
-So…

What kind of, um… What kind of…

-Here you go.
-Thank you.

What…

what kind of, um…

What kind of animals do you like?

[Dylan] I like otters.

Oh, that's so cool.

Otters are really cute.

[Dylan] Uh-huh.

Yeah, I like that…

what they can be playful in the water.

-It's really…
-[Dylan] Very cool.

…neat to watch that.

-[Dylan] Very cool.
-Cool.

-What are yours?
-Um…

-I like, um, dogs and dolphins.
-Wow! Dogs. Interesting.

Yeah.

Dogs are breeding good,

and they can very run
and chew very goodly.

-Mm-hmm. Yeah.
-Caroline is the funniest thing ever.

That's "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond.
Is that the one?

-Oh yeah. That's a great song.
-They named it after you.

Yeah, they did.

-Yeah, it's a good thing.
-Mm-hmm.

[music fades]

-[Dylan] Um…
-[merry-go-round squeaking]

Oh sh**t. It's moving.

What am I supposed to do? It's moving.

It's moving.

-Sorry about that. It's moving sometimes.
-[Caroline] It's… it's all good.

Um…

Uh… Do you like…

Uh, what do you like to do
during the summer?

-[Dylan] I like to go to the beach.
-Yeah.

-It's good.
-Yeah, the beach is a cool place.

[Dylan] You're interesting, Caroline.

I, uh… I kind of

like you.

-[uneasy music playing]
-Oh.

[pleasant music playing]

This is definitely the sort of place
to take a romantic dinner date.

It does look almost like
we stepped backward in time years.

-It's very nice.
-[insect buzzing]

I'm very glad they have LEDs, too,
and they're not using incandescents.

So, yes, that's good. Mm.

Mm!

This is the oldest continually functioning
inn in the country,

so I think that's pretty nice.

Is the inn upstairs?

Yeah, upstairs is
where they have the… the rooms,

you know, for the guests or whatever,
so not too bad, not too bad.

-[pleasant music playing]
-[James huffs]

-[server] Excuse me.
-Yes, of course. No problem.

-[server] I thank you kindly.
-Oh, thank you very much.

[server] Are you ready to order?

[Shelley] Yes, I believe so.

May we please have
the… the -ounce cut of prime rib?

What are Delmonico potatoes?

[server] It's a scalloped potato
in a cheese sauce.

Ooh!

-Let's try the Delmonico…
-[server] Very good.

-May we have the Delmonico potatoes?
-[server] Absolutely. Thank you.

[James] Yes, thank you very much.
Yes. Mm-hmm.

-[buzzing]
-Oh, I wish I could crush that fly, but…

It's driving me crazy, that fly. But, um…

It keeps on bothering me too. Yeah.

It's pretty impressive,
their maneuverability.

-The way their wings work, you know.
-Yeah.

Because I think, like, insect wings
helped inspire the design of helicopters.

-Just what I've heard.
-I've heard about that.

The word "helicopter" is Greek.

The first part, the helio part,
means… refers to the sun,

and the ter refers to the wings,
like, like, like pteranodon,

the pterosaur, the ancient reptile.

Not all ancient, prehistoric,
terrestrial reptiles were… were dinosaurs.

That kind of looks like
a haunted mirror from--

[James] Yeah, almost.

All reptiles today have
their legs go out to the sides,

but we all know
that birds are descended from dinosaurs

because their legs are straight down,
not off to the side.

That's very interesting.

-Yes, they--
-[server] I'm coming with lots of goodies.

-Thank you so much.
-[server] My pleasure.

Is this parsley, I presume?

-[server] Yes.
-Great. Thank you so much.

-Thank you very much.
-[server] Very good.

-[insect buzzing loudly]
-[server] Okay. Now, enjoy.

-[Shelley] Thank you.
-[server] Enjoy.

[buzzing continues]

[sighs] Almost had it.

[groans] Anyway, so I think I'm just gonna
eat the parsley as it is. Mm.

-You don't think that's weird, do you?
-No.

[James] Good, good. Okay.

Mm. Not bad.

Mm. Mm!

Mm. Ooh!

How… how are the Delmonico potatoes?

Mm-mm.

That's fine. No big deal.

So, yes, so thank you very much
for joining… for accompanying me here.

I really thought you would enjoy it,
you would appreciate.

[chuckles] Yeah.
Thank you very much for inviting me.

-[James] You're welcome. Absolutely.
-It was wonderful.

And the steak was delicious.

[James] Yes, yes, definitely.

Hopefully, we can have
such dinners like this more frequently,

you know, for…
for the… rest of our lives, of course.

-Yeah. I hope so.
-Yes, I don't see why not.

-Yes. Definitely.
-[buzzing continues]

[Shelley] Did you get it?

Yes, I did. Third time's the charm.
I finally got that old thing.

Yes, 'cause, you know, see,
flies spread filth and pestilence

and carry deadly diseases and plagues,
and obviously I presume you know the story

of how… how the bubonic plague
devastated Europe in the s.

So this bubonic plague
was spread by fleas, actually.

A lot of people thought
it was spread by rats.

No, it was spread by fleas on the rats,
but… so…

-[server] Did you enjoy your dinner?
-Oh my God, it was delicious.

-Thank you so much.
-Thank you very much.

-I didn't know that the potato was $.
-It's part of the experience.

I thought the potatoes were included
as a side.

-I thought it was.
-Yeah.

I would've just skipped
the potatoes if I'd known.

We didn't even eat them. [huffs]

All right, so this has been
a wonderful evening, Shelley.

I had a great time tonight,
but, of course,

I always have a wonderful time
when we're together.

-Thank you.
-Yes, thank you so much.

Yes, this is
the most wonderful evening and…

-It definitely has been.
-Of course.

-You did definitely have a good time?
-[Shelley laughs] Yes.

[James] Good, good, good.
Yep, I can tell you're having a good time.

[pleasant music playing]

-[Eric chuckles]
-[Emma chuckles]

-[Eric chuckles]
-[Emma chuckles]

Yeah.

You ever, uh, done online dating?

Uh, no. Have you?

-I tried to go on, uh, Mutual.
-Uh-huh.

The Mormon Tinder.
Yeah, I didn't really find anyone.

Well, yeah, yeah, 'cause, like…
'cause, like, with people like us,

it's… it's very different, you know?

I know there's a lot of people
that get married right out of high school.

[Emma] Oh yeah, yeah.

I mean, it's fine if they do it.

-It's just it's not for me.
-Right.

Yeah, I would like to get married one day.

Yeah, me too.

-Have a couple of kids.
-Yeah, me too.

I feel like my number of kids
would be three.

-That seems the perfect amount.
-Yeah.

I was in a family of three,
so it kinda fits.

-[Eric chuckles]
-[giggles, yelps]

[both chuckle]

[Emma giggling]

So do you wanna, like,
go… keep looking around?

-Yeah. Mm-hmm.
-Cool.

-That's nice.
-[Emma] Yeah, nice.

-Oh, the ducks.
-[Eric] Yeah, that's nice.

[Emma] Yeah, that's nice.

-[Eric chuckles]
-[Emma chuckles]

Bombs away.

Bombs away!

Wow, there are so many!

-[Eric] I definitely hear them sucking.
-Yeah, they're definitely sucking.

[Eric chuckles]

[Emma] Here, fishy, fishy, fishy, fishy!

It's dinner time.

-[Emma laughing]
-[Eric chuckles]

[Emma] Look at them swerve like that.
It's kind of funny.

-[Eric] Yeah.
-Like, "Give me food!"

-Mine!
-Mine! [giggles]

-[Eric chuckles]
-[laughs]

-[Eric] Mine, mine, mine, mine.
-Mine, mine, mine!

They're on top of each other.
That's kind of funny.

[Emma laughs heartily]

-[Eric] Nice.
-[romantic music soaring]

[Eric] I think
those guys were having a wedding.

-Oh yeah, that's nice.
-[chuckles]

Yeah, it's pretty nice.

It's just, uh…

Yeah, I really did…

I really did have…

Ah!

I had… I really had fun today.

Yeah, me too.

-Yeah.
-[Emma] Mm-hmm.

-So…
-[Emma] Yeah.

-[Eric] We got a laugh.
-Yeah! Yeah, it was fun.

-[Eric] Mm-hmm.
-[giggles]

Really liked it that we had
a lot of common interests.

-Yeah, that was awesome.
-I was able to…

Yeah, just to be able to talk

with some of the stuff
that others might not get.

Yeah. It's… It's always nice to know

when someone knows
what you're talking about.

Yeah.

I like that we, like, both put
a little humor in feeding the fish.

I liked how you were imitating,
like, the seagulls from
Finding Nemo
.

-Yeah.
-You were like, "Mine, mine, mine!"

Yeah! [giggles]

But it was fairly accurate!

-Oh, thanks.
-Yeah.

-I liked your energy.
-[Emma] Oh, thanks. [giggles]

-I really did enjoy our time together.
-Yeah, me too.

It's just, uh…

wondering if…

Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah.

Would you, uh, like to go out again?

[suspenseful music playing]

[music fades]

[intriguing music playing]

[music fades]
