03x01 - A Cutscene in a Video Game That's Glitching Out

Post by bunniefuu »

- [Sam] Tonight, walking,
talking branded content.

It's Josh Ruben.
- Whoa, wait a minute, guys,

so you're telling me that
for a limited time only

you too could go to Dropout.TV/NoProblem

to find out if I can afford groceries?

- [Sam] Doing seven
perfectly ex*cuted backflips,

it's Zac Oyama.

[Zac grunting]

- Whoa.

[all laughing]

- Seven.

[audience applauding]

- [Sam] And secretly a crew member,

it's Brennan Lee Mulligan.

- Brennan, tell me you got it.

Did I get the backflips?
- Full frame.

- I pushed a button and I
think it deleted the camera?

- They're all here to...

- [All] Make Some Noise!

[groovy upbeat music]

- Welcome to "Make Some Noise."

The game's so good, we
spun it off unchanged.

I am your host, Sam Reich.

Here's how the show works.

I have here a series of
improvisational prompts

our players have never seen before.

Isn't that right, players?

- I mean-
- Do you see 'em?

- What haven't we seen?

- I also disagree with Josh's point.

[all laughing]

Because again, my point is
not that we've seen them,

it's that we won't know
whether we've seen them until-

- But you know what? It's no problem.

Find out at Dropout.TV/MySweatshirt.

- Yeah, let's make that a winner.

- Find out if I can afford groceries.

- They will to the best of their ability

fulfill those prompts.

I will award them corresponding points

and the winner will go home
with a coveted golden ear.

Second place gets the silver earrings,

and third place will be
asked not to participate

in Dropout projects going forward.

- Huh?
- Are you ready to rumble?

- Yes!
- Hey!

- First up, a little warmup mini game.

This is a little game we like
to call Take Some Direction.

How it works is, players,

I will be giving you a single
line of measly dialogue

to repeat over and over and over again.

As I do, I'll be giving you direction,

micro adjustments, if you will,

in order to affect your performances.

Does that make sense?

- I think so.
- Okay.

- Yes.
- No problem.

- Josh, we'll start
with you, no direction.

Your line is, "There's
no crying in baseball."

- There's no crying in baseball.

- Zac, give me a little bit more.

- There's no crying in baseball.

- Brennan, a little bit more.

- There's no crying in baseball.

- That was an escalation of what Zac did.

Josh as Willem Dafoe.

- Well, well, the thing is,

[crew laughing]

you know, there's no crying in baseball

[all laughing]

Spider-Man.

[all laughing]

- Zac, naughtily.

- There's no crying in baseball.

- Brennan, with the utmost sincerity.

- I remember when my dad told me

that I wasn't allowed to cry.

[Sam laughing]

It feels like there's often not a place

in the society for our emotions.

Where are they supposed to go?

This is the bottom of the ninth
inning in the World Series

and you are pitching
for the New York Yankees

so you've got to get it together

because at the end of the day,

is there crying in our
hearts, in our lives?

Yes, but there's no crying in baseball.

- Josh, in slow motion.

[all laughing]

- There's

no

crying.

[all laughing]

- No.

- In

[all laughing]

baseball.

- Wow, Josh.
- At normal motion,

that would look absolutely psychotic.

[all laughing]

- Zac, leaning into a
courtroom microphone.

- There's no crying in baseball.

- Brennan, as a Scottish battle cry.

- They may take our bases!

[Sam laughing]

They may take our runs, but
there is no crying in baseball!

[all actors yelling]

- Josh, like a gremlin
that just got spilled on.

- Oh, there's no crying
[imitating water splashing]

[imitating gremlin short circuiting]

in base- [imitating
gremlin ears popping out]

baseball. [imitating gremlin hissing]

- Zac, sobbing through wedding vows.

[Sam laughing]

- There's no crying [whimpering, sobbing]

no crying [sobbing continues]

in baseball.

- Last, but not least, Brennan,

being first to solve
the "Survivor" puzzle.

- [Josh] Come on!
- [Zac] Go, go, go.

There's no crying in baseball.

Jeff! Jeff! Jeff!

- And that is a mini game.
- You're welcome.

- [Sam] Bravo players.
- You're welcome.

[lively flute music]

- Which brings us all
the way to round one.

- We haven't even started.

- We haven't even freaking started.

- Now you tell us.

- Josh.
- Huh?

- Mads Mikkelsen wins
a Kid's Choice Award.

- Oh my God.

- So you want to give me an award

for best punch in an animated film?

[all laughing]

Well, you have to understand

whether you are children or not,

it's not about the punch,

it is about why you punch.

I want you all to understand

I am not here for any
sort of reason financial.

I'm here because I know the
punch is a painful moment

for me and for all the children.

As a child, I too was punched.

But you know what?

I punched back, which
is why I'm so excited

to join the Spider-Verse.

[all laughing]

[buzzer buzzing]

- I can't imagine cutting
you off at any other point.

- Yeah.
- I'll tell yeah,

if you are a Nordic or Germanic actor,

Josh Ruben has your f*cking number, man.

- That's right, he is coming for ya.

- He's coming right for your throat, baby.

- He is coming for ya.

- Light up. I don't know why.

[all laughing]

Slightly awkward now, but.

- Josh, it's an honor
just to be nominated.

- An honor to punch your children.

[Brennan laughing]

- Zacky.
- Actually, sorry.

- Zac.
- Thank you.

- I don't know why we use the signs

if we're not gonna refer to them.

My name is Brennan real small.

- Yeah, and when we get to,
I will acknowledge that.

Just giving up halfway
through telling a story.

[Josh laughing]

- Oh God, it was so funny.

We were at Davenport's Pizza.

You know, they have the flat
pizzas and we were like,

'cause as a kid, I would
go there and the arcade,

they had like Spy Hunter
and they had Frogger

and they had like all those classic games.

I haven't been there in forever.

And it was great 'cause Dylan Matthew

and everybody's significant
others were there

and like we weren't
sure that there would be

like a reservation available
and so I got there.

Dylan said 6:30 and I thought it was 6:00,

so I was like walking around, you know,

with like nothing to do.

And then eventually everybody,

we all got there and then
we had, yeah, we had pizza.

[all laughing]

[buzzer buzzing]

- That is fully triggering.

- Yeah.
- That is not okay.

- Who cares, no points for you, Zac.

- Oh.

- Brennan.
- Thank you.

- As far as work required,

I wanna go a little easy on you for once.

How you feel about that?
- Wow.

- Okay, all right.

- Hot Topic's new
spokesperson is Tim Curry.

- Chain wallets.

[all laughing]

How would you like to see

an influx of customers solely due

to the sudden rapid
success of Hazbin Hotel?

We're back, baby!

- [Zac] Oh my God.

- All the freaky little goths
who smell like Frito bags

come trudging through our doors once more.

Adventure Time? [chuckling]

Spending time, you saucy minx!

- Yes.
- And is why I first

got excited about it.

- I am only here because of an impression

called Tim Curry eating pizza.

- It's true.

- Specifically the button
of it was him going,

"There's nothing I love more
than a hot crisp crust."

[all laughing]

- Josh.
- Huh?

- I thought we would go easy

- Do you have the Bible with you?

- sh*t.

[Sam and crew laughing]

Yeah, my towel got wet too,
if there's any more towels.

- Well, I can ask the courtroom clerk.

- Room 236.

[Sam laughing]

- Ladies and gentlemen of
the jury, as you all know,

this Hyatt Regency was built
on top of a cruise ship,

and as we are in international waters,

but need to hold this trial,

once we will be using the
spa as an interim courtroom.

- I got it all to myself.

- Mr. Davidson, thank
you so much for agreeing

to testify today.
- Absolutely.

- If you can just push
the court stenographer

back in the direction of the lanes.

Can we turn the wave machine off?

[buzzer buzzes] It keeps
bringing the stenographer.

- I will cut you out there.

- Thank you. Thank you.

- I love that when presented

with like the most abstract
scenario in the entire season.

Brennan's like, "Justified it."

[Brennan laughing]

I'm gonna say 10 points

for a half hour maximum
for the both of you.

- Ooh.

- Last prompt of round two, here we go.

- Brennan.
- Yep.

- And Josh.
- Uh huh.

If Siskel and Ebert reviewed
people's lives when they die.

- Oh, Greg wasn't completely
believable as a father,

and for that reason, I
give him one thumb down,

but ultimately he came around

to making amends with his daughter

so I'm gonna give one
thumb down, one thumb up.

- Well, I think that's
the point of Greg's life,

obviously, is that he didn't start on top,

so to me, I think the arc was conclusive.

I think it was strong storytelling,

even if I didn't get the whole thing

where he tried to do art in the middle,

so a big thumbs up, big thumbs up from me.

- We're gonna move on to Maria now.

Now Maria's a big two
thumbs up for me because-

- Loved Maria,
- Absolutely wonderful,

articulate fantastic
buxom, buxom performer,

and who lived just a full, full life.

Two big thumbs up.

- Yeah, Roger really
loved Maria's big breasts

and mentions that a lot.

- Yeah, Maria was really, really good.

- I kind of loved her golden heart

and the way that she was sort of a,

was there for the people in her life.

- Well, you have to understand
that some lives are meant to,

you know, be a commercial success.

- This is obviously a
huge thumbs up for me.

I think Maria was a deeply good person.

- I'm not disagreeing with you.

I said two thumbs up, two BIG thumbs up.

- But you know that to get two thumbs up,

you have to give your thumbs up

and then I give my thumbs up.

- Yeah, I did.
- You don't give both.

It's not just you decide
to give two thumbs.

- I'm giving Maria two.

- We're reviewing people's
lives when they die

because we ourselves have
passed and are in the afterlife,

justified, and the important thing is,

and I thought it was a
great expl*sive ending,

that there was a hot air balloon accident.

- More like two hot air balloons.

- Hey dude, relax.

[buzzer buzzes]

Roger Ebert did have that
whole thing about, he was like,

he basically wrote this
really effusive purple thing

being like, "What's wrong with t*tties?"

- Let's say two enthusiastic points way up

for the both of you.
- A-woo-ga.

[happy flute music]

- That brings us to our
third and final mini game.

This is a new mini game we
like to call Soundscapers.

How it works is players,

I am going to play for you
a bit of silent footage,

then I'm going to invite
each one of you up to,

as best as you're able,

make the corresponding Foley
to the footage you've seen.

You can use your mouth
if you want as well,

but you can also use this
wonderful set of objects

as provided by our art team.

Players, I'm gonna show you the clip.

- [Josh] Oh.

[players laughing]

- Wait, this rules. What is this?

- [Josh] This is incredible.

- [Brennan] This absolutely rules.

No, brontosaurus.

[players laughing]

- And that's the clip.

- T-Rex got him.

- Josh, I think I will invite
you up to our table first.

- No problem.

- Josh, you have at
your disposal a plunger

and a grapefruit and a little plastic tube

and some Scrabble tiles and a telephone

and a little bucket full of water.

- I know, but I'm not gonna use of that.

[all laughing]

- Oh God.
- Let's go.

- All right, Josh, and
a three, two, one, go.

[Josh imitating screeching dinosaur]

- Hey girl.

[screeching dinosaur sounds]

Hey, I outta just tear your throat out.

Oh, look at that sh*t. Crazy.

[screeching dinosaur sounds]

No, no, no.

No!

[Josh imitating dinosaurs crashing]

- Wow, Josh, pretty darn good.

[all clapping]

Pretty darn good indeed.

- No problem.
- Zac.

- Yeah.

I'm not gonna...
[all laughing]

Okay, this is interesting.

[Josh laughing]

- Okay, yeah, I think I'm pretty ready.

[crew laughing]

And a three, two, one, go.

[Josh growling through tubing]

[Josh imitating dinosaurs
talking & struggling]

- Hey, what the f*ck?

[all laughing]

[Josh growling]

Ahhhh!

[grapefruit splashing]

[all laughing]

- [Sam] Wow, Zac.

- So everything's wet over here.

- That was the idea.

Brennan, if you'd like to step over

to this used Foley table.
- Absolutely.

- Getting the old sloppy thirds, are ya?

- I'm actually not worried
about the sloppy thirds

and I'm gonna tell you why.

Sam puts a lot of work
and effort into this show

and I actually have found
the moments in the clip

that correspond to each one
of these sets of objects,

so the grapefruit, the pipe,
the golf ball, the cutlery,

the plunger, the towel,
the bucket, the telephone,

and especially the Scrabble tiles,

which you might think are supposed to go

at the rocks falling at the end,

but there's actually a place that I think

Sam wants them more,

so whenever you're ready,
you can play the clip.

[crew laughing, clapping]

- And a three and a two and a one, go.

- f*ck! [Brennan thudding] sh*t!

- Oh! Oh!

- Oh, f*ck!

No! Oh, my point! f*ck! Oh my point! sh*t!

Wait, pause it! sh*t!

Oh, f*ck! Oh, sh*t! Oh, f*ck-a*s!

Oh, no my point.

No. Oh, f*ck, I buffed it.

I f*cking buffed it,
dude, I shitted it, no!

No! I'm supposed to be the smarty! No!

- You're okay, bro. It's okay.

We can help, help him.

Ssh, ssh, ssh.

- You're dead.

- Um, yeah, just wanna
briefly extend my apologies

to the art team for all of
that good work gone to waste.

- I'm really sorry.

- You have time to go, dude.

- Yeah, we could set this all,

we could set this back up.

- Reset, back to one.
- Set it back up, right?

- Set it back to one.

- Put it all back together, it's okay.

Yeah, you get another try.

[all laughing]

- Whoa, whoa, whoa!
- sh*t-a*s, dude!

- Oh, no.
- sh*t-a*s! Why?

f*ck!
- I'm such an idiot.

- Here we go. All right, now we're ready.

- Well, I guess that point goes to Josh.

- I broke this too.

[lively flute music]

- That brings us to round three

where our players will now hold hands

and jump into the abyss together.

- Oh my nards.

- My f*cking nards, the abyss.

- Josh.
- James Cameron.

- Yeah.

- Zac.
- Yeah.

- Brennan.
- Hoy.

- When mixing friend
groups doesn't really work.

- This is my friend Caleb.

I haven't seen him in like 10 years.

- I am a centaur.
[all laughing]

- And this is Gilthon, sort
of the warden of this forest.

And, um-

- [Brennan] Aiden, my brother.
- Hi, how are ya?

- We have spilled blood
in battle together.

- We have. We have.
- Is Caleb a fellow warrior

of your tribe?
- Nah.

- Just matched with someone in the bar.

[all laughing]

- Yeah, Caleb is in town.

He texted me and we were
really good friends in middle

through high school, but
honestly haven't really seen

each other in a little bit,

but yeah, I mean, it'll be great.

I'm gonna go get, I'll get a
drink, a couple drinks for us.

- Hi. Are you wearing
a big old cowboy hat?

Oh, sorry.

- The device you hold in your hand,

does it speak to you as a
crystal of some mystic realm?

- It's just a Apple.

[Brennan munching]

- Oh my God.

- That is not an apple!
- [Zac] Hey, whoa!

- You have lied to me.
- Hey, guys, whoa!

So, hold your horses. Or, uh-

- Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- Hold on, hold on.

Here's some beers.

- Sorry, I may need to
leave a little early.

I matched with someone,

they said they're
wearing a big cowboy hat.

- I'm looking, there's 12 people in here

and I don't see a cowboy hat.

- Do you really wanna go home

with someone in a big cowboy hat?

[all laughing]

I know I'm a centaur.

Perhaps my references are a
little bit outside of the norm,

but I just feel like a
big hat is such a sign

of like what's going on, you know?

- Could be confidence.

- It's usually not.

[Sam laughs]

Doesn't taking a big swing

like a statement hat kind of imply

that you're not confident in yourself?

- That's true.
- I think it's just

kind of like, you know,
the hat people know

when they go out in
public, they can rock it.

- Well, like I don't think your flat cap

is working particularly well for you.

- Well, you know what?

I think you're a f*cking
humanoid and it freaks me out.

Oh my God. Sorry.

Hey, can you.

[Sam laughing]

Sorry.

Hi, can you...
- Hi.

- You're really, you're not,

you're interrupting a moment.

Hi, no, this is not, we're not together.

I just, I'm, no, no,
no. We're not together.

Don't leave. Don't leave. Don't leave.

[buzzer buzzes]
Put me down, horse.

- Hell yeah!
- Yeah!

[all clapping]

- My God with the save!

With the save!

[cheering and clapping continues]

- Wow.
- [Josh] Yes!

- Wow, first time.
- Damn. Incredible.

[all speaking at once]

- [All Players] Cheers.

- 100 points for Paul, I think so.

- Yeah!

- Fair, fair, fair, fair.
- [Sam] He deserves 'em.

Josh.
- Huh.

- Zac.
- Uh-huh.

- Brennan.
- Yes.

- Rocking on your porch at 80,

recounting your time on "Make Some Noise."

- It's funny how after all this time,

the No Problem sweatshirt that I bought

at Dropout.TV/NoProblem

it's barely worn,

worn a thread.

- It looks pretty new, not faded at all.

- Thank you, Lou.

[crew laughing]

I'm sorry, uh, uh, Vic.

I'm sorry, uh, Jacob.

- I'm Zac.
- Zachary.

- Zachary, yeah.

- A lot of sh*t really
went sideways in my life

for me to end up living in
this houseboat with you two.

[Sam laughing]

Love that it has a porch though.

- And a full courtroom.

- Ladies and gentlemen of the jury.

- Brennan's fading back
into a prompt again.

- My client, as you may remember,

was only near the horrific
m*rder of Roger Bell.

[Sam and crew laughing]

No weapon, no means or motive.

You are tasked to consider
whether the evidence proves

beyond a reasonable doubt
whether my client is guilty.

Is my client a perfect man?

No.

[Zac imitating glass shattering]

- I forgot, I got them wrong.

[all laughing]

- No, please, remember the
first episode was just...

Oh, Josh is dead.
[all laughing]

Spider, get the spider off him.

That's right.

- Looks like it's my sweatshirt now.

- [Brennan] Oh! There you go.

Oh, he's full of 'em.

Absolutely stuck with spiders, God damn.

- I'm glad you like to talk so much

because I like to be mostly quiet.

- I'm glad that you always
know the thing to say

that lets us stop doing it.

- A lot of times I don't
and I'm just guessing.

[buzzer buzzing]

[Sam and crew laughing]

- Wow.

- That was so many things.

- So is aging.

- Let's say six points
with 80 years of interest

to the three of you.

- That's actually...
- Last prop of our game.

- No.
- No.

- No, I buffed it.

- I boffed it?

- I think I said I buffed it.

- I buffed it.

- That's not how you say
whiffed or beefed it.

- Beefed it.

- Josh.
- Hm.

- Zac.
- Yeah?

- Brennan.
- Yes.

- The Noise Boys all
get "Freaky Friday'd."

[imitating laser sounds]

[players all yelling]

[Sam and crew laughing]

- Whoa.

- It seems like some
sort of logical answer

is the reason for all of this.

- This is outrageous, I Christoph Waltz,

am insisting on a better treatment.

That's a little impression
of what Christoph Waltz

would sound like if you had gone over

to Dropout.TV/MyBigSweater,

which again, you can find there,

and let's get me some
groceries, I need groceries.

- Zac, what's going on with you?

You seemed pretty quiet.

- Oh yeah, no, I was just, you know,

standing here being quiet.

[all laughing]

- Uh-oh, g*ng, here
comes another asteroid.

- [All Players] Whoa!

[imitating laser sounds]

- Okay, if I could just quickly tell you,

I don't have the sort of recall verbally

for what I should be saying
and what I might be saying.

Probably won't say it, but I
just wanted to let you know

that's what it's, and now...
[Sam laughing]

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!

Aargh, matey!

I am!

I'm in a liminal space.

I am going to another place as a ghost,

a ghost from another town,
a town called Nordikes.

- No problem.

[buzzer buzzing]

- [Sam] That'll do her.

[all laughing]

- I couldn't, I couldn't.

- Nordikes.
- Nordikes.

- [Zac] Nordikes.

- I love the Brennan impression that's,

"I don't have the words to
go in what should be here

but this as much as I
would probably talk."

[Brennan laughing]

Let's say a point for
every mile you just walked

in one another's shoes.

- We walked barely at all.

- That brings us to the end of our show.

Our winner tonight,

Josh Ruben.
- Come on!

- Josh, you are the recipient.

- You're the winner, dude.
- Of the coveted golden ear.

- I've never gotten one.

Are you gonna close this out?

- Three, two.

- That does it for us
here at "Make Some Noise."

Tune in next time for more of the game.

I'm Sam Reich and that sounds
pretty good to me, good night.

[retro mellow music]
