13x01 - Bullitt In The Chamber

Post by bunniefuu »

You're going to l.A.
To see gary sinise.

I have yours and russell's
itinerary.

Gary's super stoked
that you're coming.

[ tires squeal ]

is he serious?

Well, that's his big,
blue truck

that has red interior
like superman.

That's dumb.

The truck, or him,
or that weaky-a*s burnout?

Both.
Good parking job.

Yeah.
Way to go.

Can he not see the lines?

Come on, man.
We got to go.

You're gonna miss your flight,
and you parked like [bleep]

where are we going?

We're going to see
gary sinise.

Lieutenant dan?
Yes!

So gary wants us in a movie
or something?

I don't think he wants you
in a movie.

Are you sure?
He -- I'm positive.

Hit the door.
Come on.

Jerk.

[ tires squeal ]

-[ laughs ]
-whoo!

Narrator: Right now on
"fast n' loud"...

-Boom!
-Whoo!

Narrator: ...Hot rod hunter
richard rawlings

and the gas monkey crew...

Welcome.

...Team up with hollywood
icon gary sinise...

Hey, what is this
a fred flintstone vehicle?

...To transform
a rusty old jeep

into a star-studded salute...

I don't trust that.

...But will it break
the bank?

You're not gonna
get more time.

We're up against it.

[bleep]

just keeps on going and going
and going and going.

Narrator: And then...
Whoo!

Look, mom, no hands.

...Richard heads
to the golden state...

-[ laughs ]
-holy cow!

Narrator: ...To buy a piece
of paradise.

This car has never been wrecked,
has it?

No.
I'm thinking 20.

My grandma would would be pissed
if I let it go for 20.

seem to be
a little bit lost.

All I see is red lights
and priuses.

We're in california then!

Yeah.
[ laughs ]

I don't know why
gary sinise is reaching out,

but when he calls, I go.

The cool part about
getting gas monkey

to where it's at,
we get to take part

in some pretty cool stuff.

Yeah, it's amazing.

Pretty cool getting to meet
gary sinise too.

Yeah.
That one.

Richard: In case you've been
hiding under a rock,

gary sinise is an
academy award-nominated actor,

director, and musician
best known for his role

as lieutenant dan
in the hit movie "forrest gump."

he's become an advocate
for disabled american veterans

supporting them through
his charity cleverly named

the gary sinise foundation.

He's worked
with mel gibson.

He's worked with tom hanks.

He's worked with
all the big names.

Now he gets to work
with the biggest.

Yeah,
the biggest something.

[ laughs ]

gary sinise, I'm stoked.

There's the man himself
right there.

Hey!
How we doing, sir?

Richard.
Richard rawlings.

Hey, gary.
Welcome. Welcome.

How are you?
Good to see you.

I'm a big fan.

Welcome to
the gary sinise foundation.

I'm gary sinise.

This is the gary sinise
foundation

created in 2011,

and this is our center
for education and outreach.

We've got some goofy stuff
in here.

Oh, there's nothing goofy
about that.

Lieutenant dan's hair there,
yeah.

So it wasn't your real hair
back then?

No, no.
I would have thought it was.

Amazing.

This particular character
of lieutenant dan led me

to start working with
our wounded back in the '90s.

I'm an ex-first responder
also,

and any time we have
an opportunity

to do something
with our veterans

I'm first one in line.

I know you're a big supporter
of our veterans.

Oh, yeah.

So I wanted to reach out to see
if you could help us out.

So what's this project?
Tell me about it.

Well, we have some great things
coming right around

veteran's day, and we're
dedicating one of our houses.

We build houses.

That's the r.I.S.E. Part
of what you do.

Yeah, it's a home-building
program,

and we have a home dedication
coming up

right around veteran's day...
Okay.

...And I was thinking
maybe we could get

into a couple of vehicles
with you and you...

Two?
...Could help us.

A couple?
Well, we were thinking

that one of those vehicles
could go with them,

and they could travel
that vehicle to various events.

The other vehicle

could be auctioned off
and raise some money.

Oh, so you're thinking about
doing an older car,

auction that off,
while at the same time,

building the new version

so that they can run around
and market?

That's right.
Mobile billboard.

-Yes.
-Holy cow!

This is insane.

Gary sinise doesn't want one,
but he wants two jeeps built.

I mean, getting to work
with a celebrity

like that could be
a game changer.

Is that what I think it is?
Gary: Yep.

That is a replica of the bench
from "forrest gump"

so we got
some fun things here.

Here you go, forrest.
You can have your...

It's supposed to be, like,
right here, right?

Gary: Had this idea that I would
reach out to richard

to raise some money
and raise some awareness

by refurbishing
a couple of vehicles,

and we're hoping
that they do it.

Now you tell your story to him.
Exactly.

Oh, I've heard it
a million times, gary.

All right.
So two vehicles.

That's crazy.
By when?

Veteran's day, so it's
coming up pretty quick.

What kind of vehicles?

Jeeps, a couple of jeeps.
Excellent.

They did make a thing
in the '70s

called a super jeep.

Oh, the red,
white, and blue on it.

They're super, super rare.

As a matter of fact, one year
they only made 11 of them,

and I think we take a cj-7
and give it that style,

if you will,
and then put it out there.

You know, let gas monkey
put its spin on it.

I can see your brain
is working on this already.

I'm pretty quick
at this stuff.

Does that mean you're good
to go on this?

Oh, I dig it.
I think it's super cool.

Richard: This is a crazy-good
opportunity for gas monkey.

Not only are we aligning
ourselves with an

a list actor, but we're raising
money for his foundation,

and then the jeep
that we build

is gonna be going to auction
at a big charity event,

and that's gonna have
everybody's eyeballs

on exactly what
gas monkey can do.

Veteran's day,
that's like in six weeks.

That's tight.

For two vehicles.
Yeah.

Obviously, there's gonna be
some raw costs,

but I'm gonna step out
with all of my vendors,

and we'll hit dennis up.
Yep.

I'll buy the jeeps, and I'll
cover all the parts and labor.

You just have to show up.

God bless you.
Cool, man.

Thank you.

We're gonna do this,
I think.

I feel very good about it.

It seems like richard
and russell

are fully engaged
and fully onboard.

I'm very excited about it.

I'm looking forward to seeing
what they come up with.

We got to go find
some jeeps.

Not one but two.

-Yeah.
-Thanks, gary.

Get on it.
Richard: In six weeks, too.

Six weeks.
It is a lot of stuff to do.

It's an honor to do it,
but we got to get back to dallas

and get cracking because
we don't even have two jeeps.

No.

Better get on the phone there,
slick.

You know what today is?
What?

National donut day.

Oh, my god.

[ laughter ]

oh, my god!

It's in my mouth!

[ laughs ]

richard: This is the highest
traffic count road

in all of collin county.

Russell: Is that collins county
named after dennis?

Nope, it's collin.
Oh.

They're missing the "s."

so we got to do two jeeps.

That's why we're
going to see dennis.

I got to do a brand-new one,

and then we got to do
a classic one, like a cj-7.

Dig it!

I had a couple of cj-7s.

Turn it into
something cool.

You know, auction off, and
I think it should bring 250...

Yeah.
...300?

I just want to get this thing
bought,

get back to the shop,
and get the guys started on it

because veteran's day
is coming up fast.

Dennis ain't got no business
on a Monday morning.

Who's buying jeeps?

Everyone who broke
one this weekend riding.

Well, you got a point.

Look at that crazy
hunting rig.

That is great!

Look at how high
you are up there.

And the front too.

This is it right here.
I need this.

Hey, this is the one
from "dukes of hazzard."

didn't daisy drive this?
Close.

You don't look as good
as daisy.

Dennis: Richard never shops
for jeeps,

so whatever it is, he's gonna
try to pull one over on me,

so you know he's gonna want

a whole lot of something
for nothing.

Here's the deal.

I need a jeep.
I need a cj-7.

That's actually
really good timing

because the cj-7s are finally
coming up like the land cruisers

and the broncos have.
Sure.

If you watch in the market,
they're really coming strong.

The original jeep needed to be
lightweight yet rugged,

and be designed simply enough

that they could be repaired
right there on the battle field.

From that w*r-time legacy,
the cj, or civilian jeep,

was born, and they still have
that look that makes them

instantly recognizable
as a real w*r hero.

dennis: This is a good one
to start with right here,

and I'll tell you why...
It's rusty!

They all have a little bit
of rust in there

because it holds water.

It's really easy to fix.
It's original paint.

That's what I like
about it.

Hey, what is this
a fred flintstone vehicle?

Dude, that's just one floor.
That's easy.

That'll be the least
of your worries. [ laughs ]

so it's an '81,
and it's a laredo,

so laredo
was the top of the line

and the most expensive one.

This jeep cost as much
as a corvette did in '81.

Wow!
So it was expensive.

So how much horsepower
does a motor like this have?

Very little.

[ laughs ]
I think my motorcycle has that.

Can I just go
with a small-block chevy?

That is sacrilegious to put
a chevrolet motor

in an amc product.

Sacrilegious pretty much sums up
what gas monkey is all about,

but the jeep market
is on fire

and if keeping the motor
gets more money at auction,

then for today,
I'm a jeep purist.

Dennis, I'm worried
about the rust and the dents.

[ laughs ]

what about all
these sun-baked knobs

and everything else?
Can you get all those?

I have every single piece
of this jeep in stock.

Are you gonna give it
to me?

The jeep?
And the parts.

No, why would I do that?

'cause it's for charity.
Because it's for charity, man!

You know how expensive it is
just being your friend already?

No wonder dennis wanted
to sell you that

because he said he has every
part so he's gonna make...

Yeah, he's gonna
sell me those.

Yeah, he's going to make it
on you from both ends.

Yep.
Boy, he's smart.

What does a rust bucket, crappy
laredo jeep like this cost?

I'll sell this to you for less
than it's worth in parts,

Huh.

And then I'll give you,
I don't know,

like a 6% discount
on the parts.

Wow, man.

As far as I'm concerned,
he picked the [bleep]

one to sell us, but, you know,
we got to get in there

and get it done as fast and as
economically viable as possible,

so we just made a deal
on a $6,000

rusted-out hunk
of a jeep.

Yes, that jeep was $6,000.

As it sat, it didn't run,
but believe it or not,

it's actually worth more
than $6,000 in parts.

Hey, get your people
to load my jeep.

What do you think you're gonna
be in for by him?

I guess I'll buy lunch.

No, let's make dennis take us
in that hunting thing!

Oh, drive-through?

-Let's go to whataburger.
-I'm going up top.

This thing won't tip over,
will it?

It might.
Try not to k*ll me, dennis.

Okay, kids, you got
your seat belts on?

Yeah, dad.

[ horn honks ]

what's the height
of this thing?

It's close,
even if we duck.

[ laughter ]

hold on,
you're going to hit it!

Okay, go on.

Little bit, slow, slow, slow.

Okay, we got it.

[ laughs ]

dennis, the tree.

The tree.

Hang the bag
on the g*n rack.

Looks like it
might start raining,

and I'm not gonna stop.

I will leave you guys
up there.

Whoo!

Narrator: Coming up
on "fast n' loud"...

We're gonna have more rust
than we thought we had.

...The cj-7 goes to pieces...

I want to see
this chevelle.

Narrator: ...And richard hopes
to mine some california gold.

The car I got for sale
is my grandma's.

mike: So this is the next build,
huh?

He never even told me
what year he was talking about.

I like jeeps.
Cj-7.

[ horn honks ]

[ tires squeal ]

does everybody here
drive like [bleep]

yeah, they...
I guess so.

Rednecks for paychecks.

[ tires squeal ]

russell: Damn, I shouldn't
have got coffee.

They beat us here.

Hey, hey, hey wait
till the teardown, dude.

Oh, look they're already
taking stuff apart.

Richard:
What's up, fellas?

Good morning.

Well, we got here early,
but then russell had to have

his pick-me-up coffee.

What do y'all think
about this beater?

Not bad.
It's not bad at all.

You got a little rust.
It's dry though.

It hadn't been hit,
and it's original paint.

What's the plan with it?

I was thinking get rid
of the four-wheel drive,

put a hellcrate in it,
slam it down,

put big tires in the back,
make it a dragster.

I like that.

Just kidding,
so just kidding.

This is for the gary sinise
foundation...

Oh, wow.

-That's cool.
-That's awesome.

And you know him
from lieutenant dan...

Yeah.
...And "csi."

does a lot of work
with veterans and stuff, right?

Yep. That's awesome.
Yeah.

They wanted to do something
that gets auctioned off

at one of the big auctions
for charity.

What I was thinking was
kind of a tribute

to the cjs of the past.

There was one that they put out
for a couple,

three years
that was called the super jeep.

Richard: In 1973, jeep built
maybe a few hundred cj-5s

with a special
strapping package and options,

but then in 1976, everybody
got excited about

the bicentennial celebration,
and they built a new super jeep.

This time there were only
11 of them built with a special

red, white,
and blue paint job.

Obviously, we're doing it
for veterans

and so the super jeep...

We have a reason
to revert back to that

because that was
the cj style in '76.

Of course,
they only made 11.

I'm thinking
our version of that.

A lot of chrome, right,
on the super jeeps?

Yeah.
A lot of chrome.

Yep.
Oh, really?

So I'm talking
maybe even chrome

the housings
and the full rear end...

Everything but the axle
and chassis.

...And roll bars.

All the components underneath,
the wheels...

Yeah, all the roll bars
and everything.

That would be super cool.
But I want it to be badass.

Big brush guard in the front,
all that type stuff?

I want it to look tough.

Yeah.

I want it to be our version
of a show jeep...

Yeah.

...But the problem is,
this is due on veteran's day.

That's like six weeks away!

But here's the kicker.

There's two of them.
You got two!

Two of these?
Two jeeps?

-No!
-What's the other one?

The other one is brand-new,
four-door...

So no repair.

Yeah.
No repair, no fabrication.

A lot of bolt-on.
Just lift, wheels, tires,

and a big-screen tv
in the back for fundraising.

What about paint?
I would say color change.

You're just gonna wrap
the new one, right?

Because if you're expecting him
to have two full paint jobs

in six weeks,
that can't happen.

He hadn't done anything
in the last four weeks.

[ laughter ]

richard: Here's the plan
for the '81 jeep cj.

This thing needs to draw
top dollar at auction

for the gary sinise foundation
and our u.S. Veterans,

so we're gonna make it badass.

The motor is built for torque,
and that's cool,

but we'll have to rebuild it
and squeeze more horsepower

out of it
by adding a fuel injection.

The body has got
a tad bit of rust,

but we can fix
that up right quick.

For more attitude, we'll give it
a four-inch lift

and upgrade the suspension.

Chrome wheels and 33-inch tires
stick it to the ground.

Inside, the upholstery
will be all new,

and outside, this jeep
will shine with new chrome

and a patriotic red,
white, and blue

super jeep paint job.

Now there's a second jeep coming
that's waiting

for the gas monkey
treatment, too.

I've already dropped $6,000
on the '81 cj-7

and $28,000
on the second jeep.

Plus, I'm looking at about
$6,000 in parts all on my dime

and at no cost to gary sinise.

The guys have six weeks
to get it done,

and they both have to be
built to perfection

when we deliver them
to gary sinise.

Let's decide what we need.
I know we need a floor pan.

I know we're gonna need
a new back hatch for the top.

We'll send the transfer case
and motor and rear end off.

Okay.
See?

You might want
to take it off...

You said as quickly
as possible.

Russell:
Boy, they are fast today.

We're just trying
to help you out.

All right.
Y'all got it.

When are you going to have
the other one here?

Don't worry about it.

Boy,
they're excited about it.

That's good to see.

Richard: There you go.
Gary sinise jeeps are underway.

We got to get on the phone
and figure out

what they want
as far as the new one.

The old one, well,
it will be apart in an hour.

Russell...
An hour?

You go make sure
it happens in an hour.

I'll see
about the other jeep.

Whatever I can do to help you
get this torn down in an hour,

I'm here for you.

Just one question.

Do you guys have
a jackhammer or a...

Jack...
Wait a minute.

Are you talking about
jackhammers?

You look like you're a hatchet,
sledgehammer guy.

I'm a sledgehammer guy.

russell: Jeep lovers dig
these old cjs,

and the more original,
the better.

All the parts on this thing
need to be saved

so when it's done, this jeep

brings top dollar
for the veterans.

This phillips screwdriver will
remove this very crucial piece.

Yeah,
we'll start you out slow.

Every part is worth money,
even this.

we're gonna have more rust
than we thought we have.

Jeremy: It's not that
we'll have too much rust,

it's that we're gonna
have too little of

jeep left when it
comes back from the...

That's a good point.

Yeah, I'm just hoping
I made the best bet buying

this jeep, and dennis didn't
put one over on me.

How much did you have
to give dennis for this?

$6,000.
Oh, that's not bad.

He said it would part out
for more than that.

Oh, you got to get
the big tools over here.

Oh, yeah.
Wasted two hours.

I want to see exactly
how many parts

dennis is going to bill you
for now

that he says every part
is available.

we got about
20 minutes left?

Turn.

mike: We're all pretty excited
working on this jeep.

Not just because
it's a cool build,

but it's also
for a great cause.

That being said, all the eyes

that are gonna be
looking at this thing...

Pressure is really on me
to make it perfect.

It's going pretty fast now,

but with a multi-colored
paint job,

I'm gonna need
at least a week,

maybe a week and a half,
to get it done right.

The paint shop can't afford
any delays.

We don't have time
for extra body work,

so here's hoping
for no surprises

when it comes back
from the blaster.

-Good here?
-Yeah.

richard: Russell,
pack your jet-lag pills

because we're
heading back to cali.

Russell: Sweet!

so we're off, man.

A '68, one owner,

chevelle convertible.

This one is supposed
to just be immaculate,

and I looked at the pictures,
and I said let's go get it.

Richard: I got my fixer,
russell, with me here in socal

to check out a 1968
chevelle malibu

that sounds too good
to be true.

The chevelle was made from 1964
until '77

with the malibu edition
available from the get-go.

It had what they called
the coke bottle design.

The body was shaped
to reduce drag

and did kind of look
like a coke bottle.

'68 was the first year
they added a fastback,

but the one I'm looking at
is supposed to be a convertible.

Oh, sunny cali.

That's not a chevelle.

How's it going,
gentlemen?

-How are you?
-Good. How are you?

Good.
You must be paul.

Yeah, paul.
Richard rawlings.

How you doing?
Nice to meet you, richard.

You missed a spot, paul.
Russell.

Yeah, I did.
How are you?

My name is paul suarez,

currently living
in southern california.

Hello.
Hey, there. How are you?

Good. How are you.

This is my beautiful wife,
erin.

Nice to meet you.
Well, ms. Erin, how are you?

Russell.
Hello. Good.

All right.
Good deal.

Yeah, I want to see
this chevelle.

All right.
So the car I got for sale

is my grandma's original car
that she bought.

Dun-dun-dun!

Whoo!

Narrator: Coming up on
"fast n' loud"...

I usually don't get this excited
but holy cow.

...Grandma has
richard excited...

Pretty rad.

...And then...

I don't know,
I'm kind of scared.

...The big monkey
gets some bad news.

[bleep]

it's got more holes
than swiss cheese.

Richard: All right. Good deal.

Yeah, I want to see
this chevelle.

All right.
Let's do it.

Richard: Russell and I are here
in socal to check out

and hopefully buy
a 1968 chevelle malibu

that I hear is
in near-perfect condition.

[ laughs ]

russell: Oh, that's nice.

So grandma bought it new?

Paul: Yep.
That is wicked.

Been sitting here
for about a year and a half now.

It was an inheritance.
Really?

Haven't got a chance to really
get it on the road,

so I'm hoping
it goes to a good home.

Can you pull it out?

It's a little tight over here
to look.

Absolutely.

Grandma
bought the car brand-new.

She loved the car.

Oh, yeah.

This car has never been wrecked,
has it?

No, all original everything.

Well, I usually don't get
this excited, but holy cow.

Why you getting rid
of it?

Recently laid off
from my job,

so, you know,
something's got to go.

Really cool job but now
I'm off to the next adventure.

Wow!
Even the top is in great shape.

I think grandma would have
wanted us to make sure

it goes to a good home,
and I know richard will do that.

So you said you got
some paperwork on it?

I do, about 10 pounds
worth of receipts.

That's what we got.

A little
bit of everything.

Chevy maintenance information,
chevy parts,

she had it all organized, filed,
and it keeps coming.

Richard: What?

You know, the whole iconic story
of grandma

only drove it to church
and the grocery store.

That's this car.

But I want to take it
for a drive.

Can we go around the block
or two?

Absolutely.

Pretty rad.

Purrs like a kitten.

It's very boat-like.

Smooth, good response.
I like it.

Dude, I think this car
would drive back to texas.

Okay,
let's not go crazy.

Well, I want to go to the beach
and have a fish taco.

Oh, yeah.
Okay.

Richard: There's no denying it.

This car is in absolutely
near-perfect condition --

runs great, drives great, does
everything it's supposed to do,

and paul knows it.

His interweb ad
had it listed for 30 grand,

and that's a lot of lettuce,

but I cannot walk away
from a car this perfect.

I'm thinking 20 is, like,
a really good number for me.

You know, grandma would be
pissed if I let it go for 20.

But I'm guessing grandma
would be pissed

if you walked away from the cash
in my pocket, paul.

I can do 28,
to be honest with you.

All right. Paul is starting
to show a little bit more

of the common sense
that I know grandma taught him.

Get me below 25,
and I will be your buyer.

What do you think, baby?

How about this, 23,500,
and you buy the beer?

Oh, done.

Deal.
Excellent.

Thank you!
He got a fair price.

I got a fair price, and you know
what they say in an argument --

if both sides leave feeling
like they got screwed,

then it was probably fair.

And I got a trip to cali.

Here, you steer.

Whoo!

Look, mom, no hands!

[ laughter ]

[ horn honks ]

I don't know.
I'm kind of scared.

I know, right?
This is the moment.

Holy heck.

We got a few holes.

What does the other side
look like?

This side is pretty bad.

At least right here
there's nothing behind it.

Well, we'll get it unloaded,
get it on some jack

stands in here
and start getting a better plan.

All right.
Okay.

Jeremy: We had high hopes
for the jeep,

but, as always,

when they come back
from sandblast

you get to see what's left,

and in this case it was
a lot worse than we thought.

All right.
You can set it down right here.

Richard: I gave dennis 6 grand
for what was supposed to be

a pretty decent cj-7,
but now that it's been blasted

I'm seeing daylight
right through.

What do you think?

I think dennis pulled a fast
one on me.

I thought it was gonna be better
than this.

So did we.
Yep.

It's not that we can't do
rust repair.

It's just where do you stop
doing rust repair?

You've got full sides
of the jeep inner wheel tubs.

Has dennis seen this?

Nope.

[bleep]

dennis and I go back and forth
making deals all the time,

and he got one over on me
on the pantera for kurt busch.

I say we might be able to get
a good deal on this car.

it's worth it.

Whew!

You didn't do me a buddy deal
at all, man.

But I got him back
on the '66 mustang.

I stole this '66 mustang
for 5,500 bucks.

Deal at 85.
That's a deal.

Ha, I paid 55.
No, you didn't.

Yes, I did.
Oh, god.

I made more than that
on the pantera.

Now you can be sure that
we'll even out in the end,

but being a charity vehicle
for the gary sinise foundation,

this isn't the time for dennis
to put the squeeze on me.

All the structures
are all rotted.

Realistically, it would take
a solid week

with even all of us on it,

but we allowed ourselves
a day and a half, two days

because we thought we just had
to fix what we could see.

Not the case.

This is where your roll bar
comes in

and your seat harnesses,
and everything is gone there.

That whole back bar would have
to be replaced inside and out.

Jeremy: The thing no one's
mentioned is

there's still a second jeep
we're waiting on.

We can get this done,
but the repairs,

they're a huge time-suck.

There's not a panel, corner,

floorpan that isn't rusted
on this thing.

It's gonna suck.

I got to make some calls.

I got to call dennis.

Richard:
I'm absolutely [bleep]

that car has been painted on.

It's been bondo'd on,
and it's got more holes

than swiss cheese.

Hey, was that
what you call a donut?

Yeah.
Come on, get in.

[ tires squeal ]

[ laughter ]

ah!
Don't hit jason!

Ah!

just stick
to eating doughnuts.

all right. Dennis
"the jeep wonder" collins.

This doesn't sound good.

Well, it's not that bad.
You do this all the time,

but I'm absolutely screwed on
this because I don't have time.

This was supposed to be
the couple of spots of rust,

and it looks like
swiss cheese.

It's not bad at all
actually.

Look at this.

Well, I mean, I don't know.
You restore these things,

so if you're saying
everything is normal,

and I'm supposed
to just putty it...

There's rust in these areas
all the time.

These two pieces
we always replace.

This floor is worse
than I thought.

I would leave
the center section.

I'd leave the transmission
tunnel in it.

I'd replace that,
that, and these two floors.

Original paint jeep, eh?

Hold on, northeasterner,
before you start jamming me.

Oh, no. I am totally.
Okay.

This is rust-free
from where you were born.

I don't care about picking sides
or anything.

What do I do?

It's still a...
It's a good tub.

I need a great tub.

Well, it's pretty close
to being a great tub.

This is not rusty.

But to do the quality of work
and to exchange all the panels

that you're talking about,
what's the advantage of doing

that over
just getting another tub?

It's gonna be hard to find
one that's better than this.

Let me see the bottom.

This...
None of this bothers me at all.

Josh: It's real easy for someone
to come in saying,

"oh, you know,
this is a great jeep.

It's solid."
it's definitely not solid.

I'd put these two floors in,

and I'd put the two sections
in where the roll bar mounts.

We just want to fix this.

You want to fix this one?
Yes.

I'm just afraid we're not gonna
make our deadline.

There's four of you.

You can't start taking
every single panel off

and everybody going...
You do realize...

...Because the whole thing
will fall apart.

It's gonna spaghetti.

It doesn't matter if you got
12 people on it.

You can only move so fast.

You can only go so fast.

In the end,
it doesn't matter.

Whatever richard wants
is what he's gonna get.

I don't have a solution

other than my time frame
is not gonna move.

We can fix anything.
Well, then we got to fix it.

Russell: This is not a bad tub,
jason.

Sometimes it's the devil
you know

then the devil you don't know,

so we know what
we're looking at here...

Yeah, now.
...And we know what to do.

Let's just fix it.
Okay.

-All right.
-All right.

Let's lay it down.
Let's go to work.

Are you covering the o.T.
On this one since you want it?

[ laughs ]

whoo!

Narrator: Coming up
on "fast n' loud"

the monkeys go down
a rabbit hole of rust repair...

Josh: And then underneath that,
the bottom is rotted out.

Then that's another part,

and then the part that that
welds to it another part.

It just keeps on going and going
and going and going.

Narrator: ...And tensions mount
as the deadline approaches.

Y'all need to start listening
to what I'm saying for once.

that's good.

No better place than right
in the middle of the floor, huh?

Jason: Richard wants to repair
this body,

so against our better wishes,
the time we have,

we just got to start
cutting and get going.

Good thing there's all
this stuff rusted out.

Yeah, no.
It's super light now.

If it were a whole jeep,
it'd be heavy.

[ laughter ]

thanks, dennis.
Guess what time it is?

Metal time.

Josh: Right now we need to
knock out the rust repair

on the '81 cj-7 jeep.

It came back from
the sandblaster

looking like swiss cheese,
which is better than most old

jeep tubs, I guess.

One floorpan.

Oh, that's what it's supposed
to look like.

Well, let's get started.

this is where
the problem is.

I can't fix this
without fixing that.

Ooh!

Yep.
So that's what...

We could see that
from the inside,

but now you get
a real good visual.

This is the floor,
that part you see here.

This is the inner structure
that holds the "a" pillar up.

I can't just go ahead
and put this on over it.

I need to fix the part
behind it, but now...

That's a separate piece?
It is a separate piece.

So it's like this...

It's not just a,
"oh, there's a couple holes.

It looks pretty solid."

it's, you know, this is a couple
hours worth of work right here.

I got the same thing
going on over here.

Well, you enjoy your side.
I'll be over here, buddy.

This is why rust
totally sucks...

Yeah,
this is all tedious crap.

...Because it can run deep.

Aside from repairing the
exterior rust at the "b" pillar,

jeremy has to replace a piece
of the interior structure,

which he has to fab from scratch
and weld back into place.

That's most of the inner
structure and under structure,

so I just got
to clean that up,

put a bunch of weld-through
primer in there,

make sure that the rust
is all keeled

and cap it on the outside.

Then go to the next section
and do it all over again.

So when we took this part
we found this part.

So I just kind of lay it on
a piece of sheet metal

and map it out,

so I can go ahead
and fab a new one.

We knew that it wasn't
just this hole.

It's the hole behind it,
and then underneath that,

the bottom is rotted out,
and then that's another part,

and then the part that
that welds to is another part,

and it just keeps on going
and going and going.

Yeah, I'd say that needed
to be replaced.

Garbage.

Let's see how this fits.

And there you have it,
a solid piece of floor.

Now I just got to burn it in.

all right. Let's get
this thing off to paint.

That was an entire day
of rust repair.

Enough is enough.

It's got to go
to the body side.

We've got to work
on the chassis.

All right.
Let's let them deal with it.

Yep.

-yeah.
-Dude, look at this thing.

-Cruising on in.
-Convertible.

Keenan,
did you buy this?

Yeah, if y'all can just
get it ready for me.

Sweet.

Tony: Richard just scored this
'68 chevelle malibu out of cali

that he wants to flip asap.

It just arrived today,
so all he wants to do

is spit-shine it
and get it ready to sell.

He just wants it cleaned up.
What did he give for it?

$23,500
for this car.

Oof.
Wow.

Dude,
it's a badass car.

Yeah.
I mean, it looks way original.

Let's get it racked up.

Let's go.

Tony: Here's the plan --
degrease and clean

the undercarriage
and the wheels.

Then swap out the tires
for some new whitewalls.

You want to go racing?
Go!

Oh, you b*stard.

Cheating b*stard!

Hey, you took my tire.

[ laughs ]

this is not working out,
chad.

Not working out.

Ah, you suck.

Tony: While jason and chad pop
the new tires on the rims,

me and the paint and body crew
will clean the interior,

polish up the convertible top,
and shine up the paint.

Jason: So all we lack is
dropping it down

and then power washing
these whitewalls

to get this
blue coating off.

So in case you were wondering
about the blue protectant

on the whitewall tire,
well, that's there to protect it

while it's at the factory
and in transport.

It easily comes off
with a power sprayer.

You know what I'm thinking.
What?

We need to go get some food
in this thing,

so let's get it
dried off quickly.

I like that.
It's about that time.

Let's bail out.

We got to get out of here
before richard sees us.

Who?
Exactly.

Whoa!

Jason: You talk about
california dreaming,

this '68 chevelle looks perfect
and drives smooth as silk.

Okay.
Oh, no!

Great.
Yep.

Thank you.

I'll tell you now, whoever buys
this car

is gonna be
one lucky s.O.B.

Yeah.

We got to start
doing this more often.

mike: I really don't mind
any of these.

I think
they would all work.

And see you were thinking a lot
lighter than I was, but...

Yeah, because I was thinking
of the stripe color

because you don't want
the stripe color to be too dark

because it's gonna be
on white.

Well,
that's true, yeah.

Mike: Right now we need
to decide what color

to powder coat
the chassis

for the '81
jeep cj-7.

Unlike the tub that needed
a crap ton of rust repair,

the chassis came back
from the sandblaster

a-okay, so at least
that went right.

I was thinking, like...
I'm liking that one.

Russell: Those are the powder
coat samples?

Yeah.

That the one you like?
I love that one.

-Do you?
-That's the one I like.

See,
I think it's too bright.

Did they have any chrome?

Where's that chrome one,
yeah?

We're not talking about doing
the whole chassis in chrome.

The problem with where you stop
because I've got backing plates.

I've got spindles. I don't want
to do all that in chrome.

It gets too much.

We can eliminate all this,
and I hate the light blue,

so really
it's whichever.

Do you have a preference
between those two?

Is that still your favorite?

For some reason that one
stood out to me.

I do too.

Jason: The trick for this build
is to balance out

gas monkey flash with
a respectful patriotic look.

The purists
are gonna hate it

no matter what
if we go with that.

Well,
but this is for a cause.

We'll get the chassis
done today.

We know it's going blue.

We'll get the blue on.

Russell: We just picked a color
for the chassis,

so now mike will have
to do the red, white,

and blue wavy-stripe thing
using the blue we just picked.

Plus, the alternate blue.

The chassis on these jeeps
has always been black,

so blue is a complete 180.

What's up, little guy?

No, no,
that's little richard.

We've made our discussion
on the chassis color,

but richard, as always,
will get the final say.

-All right.
-Jason.

Yes?
Hiya, bud.

So chassis is ready to go
to the powder coater.

What is that?

This is sprayouts.
A couple sprayouts.

There doesn't seem like there's
any sparkle in the white.

There is.

Okay.
Powder coat colors.

Here, give me
the powder coat colors.

You keep those.
And then this is the other one.

Yeah,
that's too orangey-red.

That's the one we like.

I like this blue.
Yeah, I agree.

We're gonna go
with this one.

Okay.

Now, second part of this.

This is what we want
to do our chassis in.

Generally, they're black,
but the black...

I understand.
I'm fine with that.

Nobody's ever done
a blue chassis.

It's always black.

Well, that means we're gonna
have to finish

and paint
the underneath of the tub.

Why would you do that?

Yeah,
why would you do that?

If you're gonna have a nice,
shiny chassis,

you need to buff and cut
the underneath of the tub.

Silly monkeys.

If this thing is gonna bring
top dollar,

then if the chassis is blue,

then the tub has got
to be finished to match

not looking like crap.

There's no reason to ever
do that,

especially
in a six-week window.

I don't trust that.

We do our highest quality work
when we're under the g*n,

and with a high-profile client,
we can't give him any less.

Now, the monkeys are going off
half-c*ck,

and I can't stand for that.

You know what?

Y'all need to start listening
to what I'm saying for once.

I'm gonna go find a beer.

What's this buff
under the tub business?

Is he in a mood?

Russell: Yes.

At least he liked the blue.

Whoo!

Narrator: Coming up on
"fast n' loud,"

the design on the cj-7
isn't coming together...

More time
would be great.

You're not gonna
get more time.

...And neither is the engine.

Man, why isn't
that getting in there?

We need to order
a new pilot bushing.

If we don't get this part
right now,

we're gonna miss
our deadline.

Hello, dennis.

Morning, russell.
How are you, sir?

Dennis: Down at
gas monkey garage today.

I'm hoping just to sell richard

a whole lot of new parts
for the cj-7.

And you should have most
of this stuff already in-house?

I have everything.

I hear he's gonna be gone
for a couple days,

so I'm hoping to have an invoice

on his door
that hits the ground.

Powerbrake kit, I have
those new in a box.

Heater core.

I'll get you those two tanks
right there.

The power steering lines,
I've got those brand-new.

I'm gonna bring you all
new seats and new seat belts.

I'll bring you a proper
steering-wheel set up.

Blue soft-tops, too.

I started the bill
before I left.

[ laughter ]

so do we get a collins brothers
jeep shirt with every order?

I can get you that
as well.

[ laughter ]

so we came up with a bunch
of different ones.

Mike...
Oh, there it is.

Jason: Josh broke out
his coloring set to show

richard where we're headed
with the stars

and stripes look on the cj.

Okay, let's go look at it.

Okay.
[ yawns ]

what's wrong, man?
You tired?

Because you're having to work
late for the first time

in a long, long, long time.

I like this, but it doesn't
match what we got laid out here.

This is the blue,
and this is the red,

but when we get onto the hood,
this is gonna grow a lot.

I get it, but when it goes down
the side,

it doesn't look all beefy-mighty
like it would have in the '70s.

We're trying to show
a little love

to our disabled veterans
coming back,

and I still want it to be
a cool-looking vehicle.

Let me ask you this,
though, on this.

Did we get these from, like,
a steakhouse or something?

Like a kid-drawing contest.
[ laughs ]

it's almost like that thing
in the back of all the magazines

where it's like,
"hey, can you draw this?"

oh, man.
I hate you, guys.

That's the last time
you help them, right?

The stars need to be
k*ller perfect.

I want them to sparkle.

How many stars
do you want?

I don't think we have
enough room to get 50.

Well, our hood
is right over here.

Right over...

Mike: Going with a single
red stripe along the rocker

and kind of flowing up
into the hood,

well, that's gonna
save me some time.

The stars,
that's another question.

I think you ought to make about
four different size of stars

and then just randomly
put them on there

until you kind of like
the way it looks,

and then pfft.

Done.
Okay.

Did an amazing
rendering for you.

I'll go to that steak place
where they drew those drawings.

russell:
What are you doing?

I'm just taking pictures
to get this thing listed.

Richard wants to sell it
and...

Oh, well, see when I learn
how to sell things,

you got to have something in
the car that they want.

Go ahead.
Can you step back?

How about this?
Okay, a little bit more.

No way.
I'm totally out of it, man.

Then I got to be
in the car.

Are you gonna buy it?

Maybe.
How good does it look?

I don't know.

It matches your blue shirt.

Oh, it does.
Yeah, I like this car.

When I was a kid,
I used to play with...

Dude, what's going on here?

What y'all up to?
Speaking of blue.

Man, the [bleep] you see
when you don't have a job.

What are you doing?
If you're taking pictures,

you're getting ready to put
something online and sell it.

Whoa!
What's all the noise?

What's up, man?
Sorry.

Richard: So thomas weeks is
always stirring things up,

and you might know thomas
from "misfit garage,"

but anyways, he gave me a call

and said that he wanted
to come check out

some of the inventory
that I found recently

because he might want
to start a new build,

and I'm like, "bring your money,
come on down."

thomas: I can smell a chevelle
from a mile away.

White '68, blue interior,
tilt wheel.

never been taken apart.

It is absolutely
100% rust-free.

He's got a white '68
chevelle convertible.

This is a nice ride,

and if this car is gonna be
for sale today,

well, I'm sure enough gonna
try to be the guy that owns it.

you know, I've rode in cadillacs
that don't ride as good as this.

It's probably the best
original survivor out there.

Well, how's it feel over there?
You're the one driving.

It's unbelievable.

It's an awesome car.
It really is.

Well, you know
what they always say --

first money is always
the best money, right?

Sometimes.
You know me.

I go for the short dollar if
I don't have to wait too long.

That's fine.
I got dollars, and I got cents.

You have a lot of sense if
you're interested in this car.

I want this car, richard.

I really do, and I like the fact
that it's a no-air car, too.

You know the only thing
I don't like about this car?

You're not driving.
Right!

That's exactly right.

Now, the more thomas gushes
about this car,

the more I'm thinking,
"wow, I might just want

to keep this car for myself."

well, now you got me
all excited about, thomas.

I mean, I like the car.
That's why I bought it.

I don't know, man.
I might want to build it.

Come on, richard.
Don't... On this one you're...

Guys, you done sold it to me.

It's just the money now.

What price would you
put on this car?

man.

Are we on the top of 30-ish
or the bottom of 30-ish?

Well, I'm always on the bottom,
and you are too,

but, you know,
what do we do here?

I've bought cars from you
in the past.

Why can't I buy this one?

Because now I'm thinking
I want it.

Thomas: You know, richard is
a smart business man,

and he may be just doing this
on purpose to make me want it

and to get to raise the price,
get me to pay a little bit more.

I don't think
I want to sell it.

You will sell anything.

You'd sell it to me
before you'd sell it

to anybody else,
wouldn't you?

No, it ain't for sale now.

What do you mean
it's not for sale?

What changed your mind?
My mind is made up.

I don't know what I'm gonna do
with it,

but I'm keeping this car.

Well, I just think I want
to keep it or something.

Tony, make sure you don't
post those pictures.

Hey, wait a minute.

You told me that you
was taking these pictures...

Hang on.
Don't you walk off.

I thought you was telling me
you was posting these pictures

for archiving.

Hey, makes my job a whole lot
easier now

because I'm done here.

Well, it looks like
I'm done here too.

Hey, thanks, thomas.
Good seeing you, brother.

Close that gate behind you.

Whatever.

Jason: Guys, we got a lot
to get done today.

I think by the end of the day,
if we have tires here,

we will have a rolling chassis
with our full drive

yeah.

So have brake fuel lines
are almost complete.

That would be great
if it works out like that.

Yeah. Hey, we need to make it
work like that.

Yeah, definitely.

Josh: The deadline of the '81
cj-7 jeep is coming up fast.

We need to have a rolling
chassis by the end of the day

if we're gonna stay on track.
That's a good-looking motor.

Right now we're going to
marry the original 258

amc i6 motor
and the not original,

but very rare,
three-speed transmission.

The only new major things
we're replacing on this motor

are the flywheel...

Okay.

...And the clutch.

Anyway, once jason attaches
the belt housing to the motor,

we can get the show
on the road.

down...
There we go.

Watch your fingers there,
buddy.

Man, why isn't
that getting in there?

Lift up.

Oh.

I'm not feeling anything.
Are you?

Nope.
So weird.

You want to get a caliper
on that

alignment tool
and a caliper on that

out push and just make sure
we got the right...

I do.

It never even felt like it
showed a sign of...

Look at that.
And you said that was too tight.

Yeah, see, you can see
where it's at.

It's too big.

It's got the wrong pilot
bushing in it.

Pull the clutch off again.

That was fun.

Josh: So the new flywheel
and clutch kit

that jason put on looks like it
has the wrong pilot bushing.

Our shaft doesn't fit.

It looks like it might be
for a four-speed

instead of
a three-speed like we have.

That thing was never
going to get close.

This work comes down
to just one little part.

If we don't get this part
right now,

we're gonna miss
our deadline.

You know that whole thing,

putting a square peg
in a round hole?

Well, a round hole
didn't fit in a round hole.

Yeah, round hole didn't fit
in a round hole.

It's always little stuff.

Narrator: Next week
on "fast n' loud,"

the team must
pull together not one...

I like the sound.

...Not two, but three builds.

-Ah.
-Oh, [bleep]

too much gas.
That's not good.

I'm absolutely
scared [bleep]

we're not going
to get this done.

You say this every build.

Narrator: As they March toward
a potential

world-record charity auction
for actor gary sinise.

Auctioneer: Sold!
Narrator: Also...

Ah, crown victoria.
Crown victoria.

Narrator:
...Richard buys a car...

It's the first car
my dad ever had.

Narrator:
...For a priceless reason.

Well, you want to go for a ride,
dad?
