01x15 - Reunion and Turnabout – 2nd Trial

Post by bunniefuu »

PW:Mimi Miney was a nurse who died in a car accident.

PW:During the channeling ritual to summon her spirit, tragedy struck.

PW:The spirit that possessed Maya's body committed m*rder.

PW:And now, a truly unprecedented trial begins.

Title:Reunion and Turnabout — nd Trial

J:Court is now in session for the trial of Ms. Maya Fey.

J:Are the prosecution and defense prepared?

PW:What's with this girl?

Fran:Mr. Phoenix Wright...

Fran:You must be a little shocked because I am a woman, correct?

F:I am Franziska von Karma, the prodigy.

Sign:Prosecutor Prodigy — Franziska von Karma

PW:Right...

PW:Did she really just call herself that?

Fran:I gave up a promising career in America

Fran:and came to this country for one sole reason.

Fran:Revenge.

PW:Revenge? Is this about your father?

F:Papa?

J:Er, Prosecutor von Karma...

J:Using a whip in court is somewhat probl—

:No problemo.

F:That is not an issue.

F:Am I right?

J:R-Right, you are!

J:No problemo!

PW:Oh, please! It's a whip!

PW:Pretty big problemo!

J:It can't be helped.

J:After all, they do call the United States "the land of the free."

PW:There's a limit to free—

F:If you get in my way, my whip will speak for me.

PW:Please speak with your mouth like a normal person.

F:Make no mistake. I will defeat you.

F:Prepare to go down, Mr. Phoenix Wright.

PW:She's more confident than her dad, if that's even possible.

P:Mystic Maya, I will help in any way I can.

M:Pearls...

J:Prosecutor von Karma, your opening statement, please.

F:This m*rder took place during spirit medium Maya Fey's channeling ritual.

C:Spirit medium?

C:Those weirdos who summon spirits?

C:Wait, does that mean the m*rder*r is a ghost?

F:Yes, this trial has no precedent.

F:It's a "spirit trial" that concerns a m*rder committed by a ghost.

J:H-However, spirit channeling is hardly the most real—

F:This happened in reality. Get used to it.

F:Possessed by a ghost or not,

F:the fact remains that a spirit medium took a man's life.

F:And the defendant must pay for her crime!

J:U-Understood!

F:Then, I shall call my first witness.

F:I trust there are no objections, Mr. Phoenix Wright?

PW:Could you please stop calling me by my full name every time?

Testimony,Sign:Witness Testimony

F:Witness, your name and occupation?

DG:Yes, ma'am!

DG:My name is d*ck Gumshoe.

DG:I'm a detective—

F:Get to the point.

DG:What point? I was answering your quest—

F:Enough. Explain the details of this m*rder already.

DG:Y-Yes!

PW:This is absurd.

Sign:Channeling Chamber Side Room Meditation Room Winding Way

DG:Then, if everyone would look at this map.

DG:The channeling chamber, where Turner Grey was m*rder*d,

DG:is windowless, and its only door was locked.

DG:At the time of the m*rder, only the victim and defendant were in the room.

J:What were they doing in there?

DG:They were channeling a spirit, sir.

J:Order!

J:Continue your testimony, witness.

DG:Yes, sir!

DG:A few minutes after they started,

DG:g*nshots were heard coming from the room.

DG:A few of the witnesses broke the door down and rushed into the room.

DG:They found the victim already dead.

J:g*nshots?

J:Was the victim shot to death?

DG:First, the k*ller stabbed the victim in the chest.

DG:The wound was severe but not enough to cause instantaneous death.

DG:So the k*ller used a p*stol to finish him off.

J:And the p*stol...

DG:It belonged to the victim.

DG:He'd procured it on the black market for self-defense.

PW:Then it actually was real...

J:And the m*rder*r snatched the p*stol and shot the victim with it?

DG:That's right.

DG:Due to the stab wound, the victim was powerless to resist.

DG:The victim was shot once in the forehead, from point-blank range.

DG:Gunpowder burn was detected on the victim's temple.

PW:Gunpowder burn?

DG:When something is shot with the muzzle placed directly on it,

DG:the heat from the gunpowder expl*si*n leaves a burn around the b*llet hole.

J:And that burn acts as proof of a point-blank shot, yes?

DG:Also, we found the defendant's fingerprints on both m*rder weapons.

P:Nick...

PW:This is bad.

PW:I don't see any flaws in the testimony.

F:Allow me to make a suggestion to the defense.

F:Plead that it was justifiable self-defense.

F:How does that sound?

PW:Justifiable self-defense?

J:Good point.

J:The victim had a p*stol, so if you plead justifiable self-defense,

J:that would reduce the sentence.

PW:Pleading self-defense is basically confessing to m*rder.

PW:If we did that, Maya would forever be labeled a m*rder*r.

PW:I can't let that happen!

PW:Thanks for the suggestion, but no thanks!

PW:The defense will accept nothing short of complete acquittal!

M:Nick!

F:As of this moment, your fate is sealed.

F:Detective!

DG:M-Ma'am!

F:Present the final part of your testimony, the final strike.

F:The other piece of evidence that fully incriminates Maya Fey.

PW:What?

PW:The other piece of evidence?

DG:Take a look at the costume the defendant was wearing during the ritual.

PW:That's Maya's robe.

DG:As you see, it's covered in blood that was splattered at the time of the m*rder.

DG:In other words, the defendant,

DG:who was wearing this, likely carried out an act of one-sided as*ault.

J:What do you say, defense?

PW:Fingerprints on both m*rder weapons, and blood splatters on her clothes...

PW:Could this situation get any worse?

PW:There must be some clue that lets me turn this desperate situation about!

F:Staring a hole through the evidence will not help you, Mr. Phoenix Wright.

PW:What is this?

PW:Please take a look at the costume's sleeve.

J:The sleeve?

PW:There is a tiny hole here.

J:T-True.

PW:This is a b*llet hole, caused by a g*nsh*t.

DG:Wh-What?

J:This certainly is a b*llet hole.

J:This means the defendant was shot at during the m*rder.

PW:Yes, I found it!

PW:A literal hole that the prosecution overlooked in its case!

F:Why are you smiling, Mr. Phoenix Wright?

F:Surely you cannot have thought I would overlook such a big hole?

PW:Wh-What?

DG:I certainly did.

F:The only thing that b*llet hole proves

F:is that the victim shot at the defendant during the m*rder.

PW:That's right.

PW:That means the testimony about the act being one-sided is mistaken!

F:You are the one who's mistaken.

F:Whether it was a one-sided act of m*rder

F:only matters with a plea of justifiable self-defense.

F:But earlier, you turned that down to seek a complete acquittal.

F:You made the wrong choice, Mr. Phoenix Wright.

F:The moment you pled not guilty, this b*llet hole lost all evidentiary relevance!

P:Nick!

P:Are you okay?

PW:It was a trap?

F:Those of von Karma blood have but one fate. That is perfection.

F:And that is how I prosecute, Mr. Phoenix Wright.

F:Now, Scruffy!

F:Tell the court what transpired that day,

F:adding the newly acquired information.

DG:I'll give it a shot, ma'am!

TestimonyOrange,Sign:Testimony

DG:During the channeling, the defendant stabbed the victim in the chest.

DG:Of course, the victim used the last of his strength to fight back.

DG:While the two were fighting, the victim took out his g*n.

DG:He then shot from close range, but he missed.

DG:The defendant took that chance to grab the p*stol and end it.

J:That scenario does make sense.

F:But of course.

P:That can't be true. They're just saying whatever they want.

PW:Yeah.

PW:There must be something... Something!

J:It seems the defendant's role in the m*rder has been proven without doubt.

J:Then—

Objection,Sign:Hold it!

PW:Hold it!

PW:Take another look at this b*llet hole.

PW:The two were fighting, and the victim fired from close range.

PW:Is that correct?

DG:That would be the natural assumption.

PW:But in that case, we're missing something.

J:Missing something?

PW:Gunpowder burn.

PW:While testifying about the victim's forehead wound earlier,

PW:you said this.

PW:That a shot fired from point-blank range leaves a burn.

PW:So why isn't there a trace of any burn on this costume?

PW:Your testimony is contradictory!

J:Order! Order!

P:Hooray!

P:Ah, this must be a miracle of love.

F:You are a smart man, Mr. Phoenix Wright.

F:Now I know why Papa had a tough time.

F:You amuse me.

F:Very well.

F:I shall call my next witness.

PW:Next witness?

Sign:June , : AM Kurain Village — Fey Manor

IM:Is this really, like, the time to be chilling?

MF:Everything is proceeding smoothly.

MF:Your concern is unnecessary.

IM:Well, excuse me!

MF:Pearl...

F:Witness, your name and occupation, if you please.

LH:Hey, Wright!

LH:Long time no see!

PW:Lotta? Why are you here?

LH:Sorry, fella.

LH:With such a big scoop in front of me, I just couldn't control myself.

LH:Yeowza!

F:Name and occupation.

LH:Wh-What in tarnation?

LH:Hey, judge! This here is violence against my fair self!

J:That's fine.

LH:That ain't fine!

LH:That's a whip! And she's whoopin' me with it!

F:Just hurry up and testify about the m*rder.

F:I haven't even gotten to say my name and job yet...

LH:I'm Lotta Hart, a photographer,

Sign:Witness Photographer Lotta Hart

LH:and I'm here to testify.

PW:These two are a dangerous combination.

LH:At the start of the ritual,

TestimonyOrange,Sign:Testimony

LH:only the doc and Maya went into the channelin' chamber.

LH:We were waitin' in the main hall and then...

LH:Bang!

LH:We hear this g*nsh*t.

LH:Wright and I broke the door down and entered the room.

TestimonyOrange,Sign:Testimony

LH:Inside was the dead doc. And Maya, waving a p*stol around.

LH:And the next moment, I instinctively took a photo!

LH:I'm a professional scoop photographer, after all.

F:Allow me to present that photo to the court.

PW:The moment of truth... What will that photo show?

J:This isn't the defendant! It's a completely different person!

F:Of course.

F:In the Kurain School of Channeling,

F:a spirit medium changes her appearance into the one she summons.

J:Th-That's ridiculous!

F:Isn't that right, defense?

PW:Y-Yes, that's right.

PW:I know how Maya's spirit channeling works.

PW:I can't lie about it!

J:I find it hard to believe.

J:But as long as the defense accepts it, we must consider it fact.

F:Exactly.

PW:Prosecutor von Karma... She even looked into this?

F:I told you. I am perfection.

J:I'm not sure about the face,

J:but this costume is clearly the one the defendant was wearing.

F:During the ritual,

F:the victim and defendant alone entered the crime scene, the channeling chamber.

F:Thus, the woman pictured is the defendant in the midst of a spirit channeling.

F:In other words, this proves the defendant committed the m*rder!

J:Very well.

J:Then, your cross-examination, defense.

PW:Yes, Your Honor!

Testimony,Sign:Cross-Examination

F:Fool.

PW:Lotta...

PW:Are you absolutely certain only two people were in the room?

LH:Huh?

PW:Maybe someone was hiding in there?

LH:Don't look down on a journalist.

LH:There wasn't anyone behind the door or the foldin' screen!

PW:D-Did you check under the flooring?

F:Defense, it seems you were there all along.

F:Then, answer this!

F:Were there really only two people inside?

PW:Yes.

PW:I only saw two.

J:H-Hey, now...

J:Why are you testifying against the defendant?

F:Go spend the rest of your life under the flooring,

F:Mr. Phoenix Wright!

P:Nick!

P:Even I think that was a bad idea.

LH:Same. That was clearly an awful idea.

J:So, what do you say, defense?

J:Is there anything else?

F:You admit it, then?

F:That this woman is the m*rder*r

F:and none other than the defendant, Maya Fey?

PW:Yes,

PW:I know very well that Maya's appearance changes during channeling.

PW:But I get the feeling I'm overlooking something.

PW:Something very important!

PW:Dig through your memories once more!

PW:Yeah, that's it!

J:That's enough!

F:Looks like a complete acquittal was out of the question, Mr. Phoenix Wright.

Objection,Sign:Objection!

PW:Objection!

PW:Prosecutor von Karma,

PW:it looks like your case wasn't so perfect, either!

F:What?

PW:This photograph contains a fatal contradiction.

J:Contradiction?

F:What are you saying?

PW:Take a good look at this woman.

PW:It's really strange.

PW:Something that should be there is nowhere in sight!

F:That should be there?

PW:This ornament was used in the ritual that day.

LH:R-Right...

LH:A "medium headdress," a sacred ornament that's always used in channelin' rituals.

PW:When she entered the channeling chamber,

PW:the defendant was, without doubt, wearing this.

LH:Yeah, yeah! I saw her wearing it, too!

PW:But in this picture, it's missing.

PW:This contradiction points to only one conclusion.

PW:The defendant is not the woman in this picture!

F:Wait a second.

F:I-It could have easily fallen off while the defendant and victim fought.

P:That's impossible.

PW:Pearl?

P:The medium headdress fits tightly in your hair.

P:It would never fall off that easily!

M:Pearls...

PW:And if this isn't the defendant, that means the real m*rder*r is someone else!

J:Order! Order! Order!

Objection,Sign:Objection!

F:Objection!

F:The defense's argument is a complete mess.

PW:What part of it?

F:All of it.

F:Listen... The door to the crime scene was locked.

F:It was a closed room.

F:Am I right?

PW:R-Right.

F:Then how did your "real m*rder*r" get in?

F:One more thing.

F:The witness has said that the victim and m*rder*r were alone at the crime scene.

F:Correct?

LH:C-Correct...

F:If this isn't the defendant,

F:then where did she vanish to?

LH:Don't ask me!

F:As you can see, the defense's argument is full of holes!

J:From the start of the ritual to the moment of the m*rder,

J:no one entered or left the crime scene.

J:As long as that fact doesn't change,

J:the defense's argument holds no water!

F:That's enough of your futile resistance.

F:This trial is over.

J:If the defense has no objection,

J:it seems we have reached our conclusion.

F:That's it. That's exactly the look I wanted to see,

F:Mr. Phoenix Wright.

M:Nick...

PW:Damn it.

PW:And here I thought I finally had a lead to turn things about!

PM:Wright,

PM:an attorney can't make that kind of face.

PW:Th-This voice...

PW:Mia!

Mia:An attorney ought to smile in desperate situations!

M:S-Sis!

Mia:Looks like Pearl summoned me, but her clothes are too small in the chest.

J:D-Defense!

J:Who is that woman?

J:She was a little girl until just now—

Mia:Your Honor.

J:Y-Yes?

Mia:It's just your imagination.

J:Is that so—

J:Ow!

F:Your cheap tricks will not work!

F:The defense is cornered, and that hasn't changed one bit!

Mia:Okay, let's do this.

PW:B-But how?

Mia:Turn your thinking about.

PW:Turn it about?

Mia:Instead of thinking about how someone entered or left that closed room,

Mia:look for proof that someone did enter or leave.

PW:Proof that someone did enter or leave...

Mia:That's right. You already hold the key to unlocking this mystery.

PW:Lotta, do you recognize this key?

LH:That's the key to the channelin' chamber, right?

LH:Maya had it in her sleeve at the ritual's start.

F:A key in the sleeve of the costume?

LH:Yeah, that's why we had to break down the door.

LH:That key's one of a kind, after all.

J:One of a kind, you say?

F:Wait, Mr. Phoenix Wright.

F:Then why is that key currently in your possession?

J:G-Good question.

PW:After the m*rder, this key was found in the courtyard incinerator.

F:Incinerator? Why was it there?

PW:I don't know.

PW:But—

LH:Yeah, that's hella weird!

LH:When we barged into the scene, that granny caught Maya immediately!

J:Oh, a granny did?

Mia:In other words, after the m*rder,

Mia:the defendant couldn't have dumped the key in the incinerator.

F:S-Say what?

PW:That leaves us with but one conclusion.

PW:There's a chance the defendant left the channeling chamber before the m*rder.

PW:If not, I wouldn't be holding this key right now!

F:No!

J:Order! Order!

J:It seems we have come to an impasse.

J:This picture has clearly captured the face of the m*rder*r.

J:However, is this person the defendant or not?

J:So long as that doubt persists,

J:I cannot declare a verdict.

F:Don't think you've won yet, Mr. Phoenix Wright.

F:I will get my guilty verdict in the next session.

J:That ends today's trial.

J:Court will reconvene tomorrow at AM. Are we clear?

PW:Yes, Your Honor!

J:That is all! Court is adjourned!

Lobby,Sign:Lobby No.

M:That's Nick for you!

PW:Yeah.

PW:Thanks, Maya.

M:that you're the best attorney in the world at breaking into a cold sweat!

PW:Yeah, I know.

P:Mystic Maya, I'm glad you're all right.

M:Thanks, Pearls!

M:I can't believe you channeled my sister!

P:That's about all I can do.

M:That's amazing!

M:Hey, Nick, did you know?

PW:Who else could've done it?

PW:Say, Maya...

PW:Do you really not remember what happened during the channeling?

M:No, I don't. Sorry.

M:Oh, but I think I had a dream.

PW:A dream?

PW:After the ritual started?

M:Yeah. I don't remember it very clearly, but it was a dream about my sister.

M:I felt warm, and I was enveloped in a very nostalgic scent.

P:A dream?

PW:This incident might have been planned all along.

PW:Both Dr. Grey's death and your getting framed for it.

M:Wh-What do you mean, Nick?

MF:At long last, I get my chance.

MF:How long have I waited for this day?

MF:I hope you're ready, Misty.
