[Japanese theme music playing]

BAKI-DOU: THE INVINCIBLE SAMURAI

[lyrics in Japanese]

[music fades]

- [g*n c*ck]
- [flames roar]

Now put your weapons down on the ground.

[water trickling nearby]

I never asked you what your name is.

You're asking me for my name.
That's your move?

Always do that before you cut a man down?

What a peculiar thing to say.

You're the one who's drawn your matchlock
to face me.

Of course you're in danger of being cut.

- [dramatic music sting]
- [Otsuka gasps]

The legendary Musashi is going to
pick up his blade against me, Otsuka.

I should feel honored.

Stop right there.

I can't let you step any closer.

Just make one more step,
and I'll have to sh**t you.

Either put your swords on the ground,
or draw on me and get shot.

What'll it be, warrior?

Or I could draw on you and cut you down.

[Otsuka chuckles]

I'm the first cop to face your sword.

Well, I guess lucky me, right?

Here it comes. sh**t me if you can.

One, two, three.

[Otsuka gasps] He's gone!

[slicing]

- [blood squelching]
- [g*n sizzling]

[Otsuka grunts softly]

[weakly] You live up
to your reputation, Musashi.

- [flesh squelching]
- [tense music playing]

[leader] So you don't plan
on surrendering or complying.

In that case, how about you
try this on for size, Mr. Miyamoto?

[dramatic music sting]

[leader] Compressed rubber b*ll*ts.

Heh. Not that you can
wrap your head around that.

It's like having a rock-hard projectile
thrown by a Major League pitcher.

Well… [chuckles]
…you wouldn't know that either.

[uneasy music playing]

I can see you're itching to draw.

[chuckles]

So I can't prevent
what happens to you next.

Fire!

[man yelling]

[Musashi] Hmm.

[sword slicing]

He cut 'em!
He cut through compressed rubber.

[leader] Three in a single stroke?

Huh. You're a monster.

Arrows fly far faster.

Now, then.

[grunting softly]

Surround him!

[Musashi] Hmm.

How good are you really?

We have something
that can't be cut no matter what.

[breathing heavily]

Now!

[gasps]

[shocked gasping, murmuring]

[Musashi grunts]

[metal clanging]

[officers screaming]

- [shocked murmuring]
- Sir, he did it. He cut it!

He split the water cannon!

[officers gasping, murmuring]

What's the trouble?

Wasn't I to be captured?

Or do you hesitate

because you finally have it figured out?

- [leader hesitates]
- [officers gasp]

That despite
your best efforts and numbers,

you will not be able to defeat me tonight.

[leader grunts]

You split the water cannon in half
at high speed.

Your swordsmanship is
nothing short of amazing.

But when it comes to real battle,
that's another matter entirely.

The armor and weapons we have,
their weight and durability,

our equipment surpasses anything

you would've seen
in the Warring States era,

and you know it.

Plus, we have superior numbers.

Your epic tales of valor
are still told today,

where it's said you took on dozens of men.

I hate to say it,
but those are nothing more than myths.

What will you do
when reality comes knocking?

[Musashi] Hmm.

[tense music playing]

[Musashi laughing]

No one is moving.

No one moves, not a single one of you.

You've gathered this many,
yet not one man steps forward.

Lack of confidence?

Or merely the shame of knowing
you can't even stand before me

without superior arms and armor?

Or perhaps

you know that even with
your superior weapons

and your great numbers,
you cannot defeat Musashi.

Or is it just an instinct of the weak?

Which one is it?

[rumbling]

Show me who you are!

[officers gasping, murmuring]

[leader] Hmm.

[g*n c*ck]

Unfortunately for you, it's this one.

[electricity buzzing]

[narrator] The Taser g*n.

A type of stun g*n, a non-lethal weapon.

Using compressed air…

it fires cables measuring 6.3 meters.

They can penetrate clothing
up to five centimeters thick

and deliver a 50,000-volt shock.

The current continues
as long as the trigger is held,

incapacitating the target.

The Taser Superintendent Tatsufumi Iwama
had prepared for this confrontation

was a special model.

The opponent was none other

than the master swordsman,
Musashi Miyamoto.

The 6.3-meter cable length
was extended to ten meters.

And the standard 50,000 volts
were modified to 500,000,

ten times the usual.

In other words, this could no longer
be considered non-lethal.

- [officer gasps]
- I can see his skeleton.

How many volts is that?

[electricity buzzing]

[shocked gasping]

[electricity buzzing]

[Iwama chuckles]

[electricity buzzing]

Whoa!

[gasps]

[chuckling smugly]

- Captain, that's enough. It's over!
- You're gonna k*ll him, Iwama!

- [wind blowing gently]
- [sizzling]

[officer 1] Looks like he's gone.
I can smell burning.

- He's enormous.
- [officer 2] What a build.

[officer 3] And that expression,
unmistakable.

[officer 4] Check his pulse.
His pulse! Medics!

Your name is Captain Iwama?

- [officer 1] What the…
- [all gasping]

[confused murmuring]

I'll remember that.

[Iwama whimpering]

[menacing music playing]

Was that some kind of poison?

- I've never felt anything so strong.
- [whimpering]

[Musashi] The arrows pierced,
and the numbness came all at once.

Then, suddenly, recovery.

Iwama.

That was sorcery,
and I cannot ignore that.

- [sword slicing]
- [Musashi roars]

[uneasy music playing]

[flesh squelching]

[narrator] No one moved any closer.

The elite riot police were the pride
of the Metropolitan Police Department,

yet not a single member
dared approach him.

Once feared as a demon,

Captain Iwama was cut down
before their very eyes.

What's more, he was beheaded.

And the one who committed the act
was master swordsman, Musashi Miyamoto.

Or someone thought to be him.

It was too much to take in.

Like something from a fantasy.

There's no way anyone would get close.

Oh.

Beautiful.

It's a nice moon tonight.

Huh?

The moon?

What?

How can he be moongazing
at a time like this?

When the moon is as clear as it is now...

[chuckles]

[uneasy murmuring, gasping]

[menacing music playing]

…I can think only of cutting.

[officers gasp fearfully]

A fighting force that has lost its head

cannot be called an army.

A hundred men without a leader
have no power in numbers.

[gasps]

It's merely a hundred men
and nothing else.

[sword slicing]

He… he just…

f*ck this! Look.
He cut my shield in pieces!

- Come now.
- Huh?

Come now. See to the dead, quickly.

[officers gasping]

[boots marching in unison]

[officers murmuring]

[Musashi] Hmm.

Now make way!

- [rock music playing]
- [officers gasp fearfully]

[music fades]

[man] The Ogre? Never heard of him.

Is that a code name? What does he do?

And a declaration of non-aggression?
From who to who?

[narrator] That day,

the White House had ordered
all reporters out of the building.

The sitting president
had vital information

for the incoming president.

Something highly confidential.

[president murmuring]

[growling softly]

You're not making any sense.

[clears throat]

I'll ask you once more.

And I'll answer the same each time.

As I told you, Mr. President elect.

Our whole country is making
this declaration towards one guy.

I'm following you so far?

You're understanding me.

The US will declare non-aggression.

Take no action against him.

His name is Yujiro Hanma,
but he also goes by the alias the Ogre.

With your hand on the Bible,

you must swear friendship
and non-aggression to him.

[president-elect hesitates]

Across the board?!

Across the board, indeed.

So then I'm supposed to butter him up?

If you like. Whatever it takes.

What, is this guy, rich?

In a way, you could call him
the richest man in the world,

though that has nothing to do
with the agreement.

What if we captured him?
We could arrest the guy.

Arrest him, huh?

The Ogre's street fighting prowess
is said to be comparable

to the military power
of an entire country.

Even the FBI is no match

when faced with the military power
of an entire nation.

There would be mountains of coffins.

This sure sounds like a sickening custom.
When did all this nonsense start?

[Ozma] I, uh, believe the first was
our 40th president, Ronaldo Wilson Regan.

Well that makes sense, then.

That was about the time America first
began to lose its signature greatness.

You know something, Mr. Tranp?

There is a proverb about the foolhardy.

And it mocks reckless bravery
without any strategy.

Sometimes all you can do
is pander to those who need it.

I came to that conclusion
during my time in office.

[narrator] Two weeks later. New York.
On the top floor of a hotel.

[footsteps walking quickly]

[Tranp] I will end this.

[narrator] Those words were echoed
in his autobiography years later.

"I will be the last."

"I will end this."

"My emotions ran so hot
that I was about to explode,

but the moment I saw him,

those emotions vanished without a trace."

"More than any modern tank,

or any state-of-the-art m*ssile,

or the latest firearm innovation,

he was far superior."

"By merely looking at his back,

he made me realize
the reality of the situation," he wrote.

It was the first time he'd seen this,
the spirit of battle in its purest form.

[dramatic music playing]

- [Tranp whimpering]
- Three minutes is all you've got.

[Tranp gasping]

[Tranp whimpering fearfully]

[narrator] His account continued,

"I may have wet myself, but I'm quick
to react in times like this."

"I had memorized the oath overnight
just in case."

"And I shouted it out perfectly,
word for word, as I'd been instructed."

[Strydum] You have made
this decision yourself,

and I will carry out my orders
as received.

Naturally, any order that's coming
from you must be obeyed.

I'll do as you say.

But if you were one of my own relatives,
one of my own blood,

I wouldn't let you go, no matter the cost.

Needless to say, ma'am,
I can't guarantee your safety or life.

[woman] Oh, shut up.

Hmm?

Don't make me repeat myself.

Captain Strydum, is your hearing
becoming deficient in your advanced age?

[Strydum] Hmm.

But, Mrs. Hinary,
you simply do not understand.

This man isn't somebody who
can be judged by normal standards.

He's in a completely different league.

He's a monster.

[Hinary chuckles]

Not a problem.

I have some awareness of this Ogre fellow.

Huh?!

[Hinary] There's still time. [chuckles]

I haven't conceded to him yet.

And from his greedy hands,

I'll save the United States!

But before that,

I have to do what needs to be done.

Because this man, his very existence,

is a military threat itself!

[gasps]

[gasps, whimpers]

- [dramatic music playing]
- [Hinary gasping]

HERO

[Hinary gasping, whimpering]

I thought that I had refused.
I won't hear your oath.

[Stryder] Hmm-mm.

[hesitantly] Uh, I knew Emi Akezawa.

Your late, beloved wife, sir.
We were close acquaintances.

She was a wonderful woman
and a strong mother. I still miss her.

[Yujiro growls softly]

[hesitates] That to say,

I really would love to pledge an oath.

A personal one,

from the bottom of my heart,
to you, the Ogre.

I beg you.

I don't need your oath.

As a friend of Emi's, you're protected.

But know this,

if you vainly offer that oath again,

I'll defile you.

[shocked gasp]

Huh?

[Hinary] I would never survive that kind
of as*ault from a monster like him.

Well, then. Time to go, time to go.

[Stryder sobbing]

It's wire chopping.
The old man's original technique.

[Doppo] Now.

[metal clattering]

- [dramatic music sting]
- [Baki gasps]

[Doppo] This right here.

If any protrusions are left on the wire,
that means I'm not in top form.

[giggling]

Katsumi, what's so funny?

[Katsumi laughing]

Well, it's just as I thought.

You totally obsess
over this kind of stuff.

[Doppo] Hmm.

Hm?

Ah…

Katsumi, you may find me amusing,
but don't forget.

For the martial artist,
the dojo is like his second home.

So sue me if I'm a bit of a home body.

I take it that you saw the news?

[Baki] He carved up two men.

The police are supposed to be strong.

They project strength
that's above reproach.

At least that's
what they're trying to look like.

They swore revenge against Musashi,
didn't they?

Exactly.

[Doppo] If they want to succeed,
they can't worry about how they look.

So they'll bring out vehicles,
g*ns, whatever it takes.

So then, they'll k*ll Musashi,
just like that?

Expect to see mountains of coffins.

This couldn't get any worse.

Katsumi, what do you suppose
we should be doing?

[Katsumi] Hmm.

If we take a stand,

it'd have to be one of us?

[Doppo] I'm afraid so.
I can't afford to be a homebody now.

Really?

Did I stutter? I said what I said.

[Baki] Wanna know a little secret?

Doppo doesn't know
I've already made up my mind.

I decided a long time ago to take a stand.

But you can't just train
for a fight against Musashi.

So, instead, I'll just be my usual self.

For example, the length of my nails.

I cut them three days before a match.

Exactly three days or it's no good.

Cut on the day of, they're too short.

But by the third day,
my nails feel just right.

They help me.

The slightly grown nails dig into my skin,
holding my fist in place.

Come to think of it,
when did I last cut these?

A week ago? Maybe ten days?

Who really cares?

Does Musashi Miyamoto worry
about details like this?

[suspenseful music playing]

So my nails and my shoes
are just the same as always.

Laces a little loose.

Underwear on its regular cycle.

And my expression?

Same as it ever was.

That's what preparation looks like.

Am I right? Huh?

[chuckles]

[music fades]

[Japanese theme music playing]

[music fades out]
