In the early morning hours of April 12th

a security guard at the port of Tampa

finding a rigging knife containing a piece of microfilm

immediately reported it to port authorities.

The knife was believed to have been dropped by William Gates

a seaman from the United States freighter Tucson Queen.

Checking with the captain of the Tucson Queen

authorities learned that there was no crew member

aboard by that name.

The Tampa FBI office was notified.

And while the security guard

assisted with an artist's conception of Gates

Special Agent in charge, Jim Russell

received a call from the harbor master

at the port of Tampa.

It seemed that the captain of the tanker San Lucas

reported a missing crew member

by the name of Leon Albinus Ortega.

Ortega's description matched that of William Gates.

Alright, thank you very much.

That was our liaison representative in Brazil.

Authorities down there located Leon Albinus Ortega

in Belagua.

He was a merchant marine

and hasn't been to sea in five years.

- Then his papers were stolen. - Mm-hmm.

He lost them about three months ago

and simply failed to report it.

It could be the papers that Gates used

to sign aboard to San Lucas.

Or someone who called himself Gates.

an espionage operation

controlled by a "William Kroll."

Kroll, along with two of his close associates

they found a letter beginning "Dear, Kipper."

Well, they learned this was a nickname he picked up

in his early childhood, used by only his most intimate friends.

Do they know where he is now?

What about the two that escaped with him?

A husband and wife team by the name of Denham

Ruth and Howard.

British authorities have no idea where they are.

They just fell out of sight.

and that was when they were in college.

It seems they were on the same cricket team.

fitting Blok's description board the 12:30 plane for Charleston.

The man on the right is William Kroll, also known as Kipper.

His friend is Howard Denham.

'Guess this was taken about 20 years ago.'

Tom, get a copy of this off to the Tampa office

'see if the clerk at the car rental recognizes Denham.'

- You think Denham is Baker? - 'Looks that way.'

[telephone rings]

I want you to meet me over here at the cabin.

They've abandoned their car, we're following on foot.

Inspector, I just got word from the coast guard there's a

Communist trawler operating

just beyond the three mile limit.

What's its present position?

'Due east of Rainbow Cove.'

That cove is about five miles long, inspector.

It's a lot of beach to cover.

Ask the coast guard to intercept any

small boats approaching the trawler.

Once he gets her onto that trawler, Lou..
