This week's challenge, take a 1970 Ford Ranchero

and turn it into the rankest bucking bull

this side of the Rio Grande.

The rules: when built the monster machine

must appear to be stock,

the team can spend no more than $3000 for parts.

Jesse and his crew have 7 days and nights.

On the first day they design,

on the next 5 they build.

And on the seventh day, they buck.

If successful, each team member takes home

a $3,400 set of Mac tools,

and the clock starts now.

Day 1.

[techno music]

The design team arrives to mutate

this tired and tame Ranchero

into a rip storting, cowboy stomping, rodeo bull.

Jesse James, like his outlaw relative of the same name,

is a natural born leader.

He's assembled the perfect g*ng

with the right combination of cowboy and homeboy

to make this Ranchero come out rocking and hopping.

- It's Western Week on Discovery.

- Rocking rodeo.

- So we're gonna do a kind of a mechanical bull car.

So basically what we're gonna do is take a Ranchero

and a hobby horse.

I think the - hobby bull.

- [Jesse James] Yeah. A hobby bull.

- [Chad] There you go.

- The saddle, it'll be stationary,

or is it gonna be moving as well as the car?

- We could put it on one of those big springs,

like those ducks at the kids' playgrounds

where they're goin',

[Jesse James makes spring noises]

Can we put horns on it?

- Yeah. Aesthetically

- I'd probably put horns on it.

- Okay. - I think up here.

- [Kenny] I think on the roof.

- Put the horns on the roof?

- [Kenny] Yeah. And it's closer to him.

- That's what we need. Horns close to me.

- [Narrator 1] Chad Denton from Oroville, California,

has taken enough bull to rank 16th in the PBR,

the Professional Bull Riders tour.

- Qualified for the original course showdown.

Qualified for the PBR finals last year for the first time.

I've had 10 surgeries, 11 broken bones.

I've broke my right ankle 4 times,

my left ankle twice,

my femur, my pelvis, my cheekbone my shin bone.

I've just faced the fact that I'm going to get injured.

I can't even believe I'm doing this.

You got a bull rope so there's no saddle.

- But it should be semi padded.

You know, we can have it done with a little bit of

like some half inch closed cell foam.

- Maybe some of those steel spoke wheels

or something. Kind of.

- [Jesse James] Yeah. - Yeah.

- [Jesse James] We gotta keep it, you know,

part bull, part low rider.

- With this front suspension, we're gonna have to bring

the front cylinders to the top of the hood.

- [Narrator 1] Quinter Pittillo, hits switches

and drops bodies for a living in Sacramento, California.

- I've been working on cars since I was about 14 years old

and that's been really my strive to have

something different than anybody else has.

And I just do it for selected people now.

You know, maybe 4 or 5 cars a year

that I actually build and

I just pick and choose who I want to build 'em for.

Once I seen this show, I knew this show was for me.

You know, this showcases what I do. I love this show.

If there's anything for me to be on TV, this was the show.

- [Kenny] So there'll be holes there or the hood off.

- There'll be like a two inch hole about right here.

And then there'll be a stroke sticking up

outta the top of it with the hose on it.

- [Kenny] All right. Okay. One, or are you gonna put two?

- [Quinter] Two one on each side.

- [Kenny] One on each side.

- Now the thing that I'm concerned about is safety wise,

you know, like if you get thrown off a bull,

you know you might hit part of the bull coming down,

but mostly you're just gonna hit the dirt.

- If this sucker goes to throw me off

and jump on top of me,

we're gonna have to push the old power button.

- Okay. - Is there a power button?

- Yeah, we can - [Chad] Can you rig that up?

- We can stop.

- Ridin' bulls, there's no pause button.

- Yeah, I think you might wanna wear a helmet on this one.

- You know what? One thing we gotta quit talking about

falling, because, it ain't gonna happen.

- [Jesse] Okay.

- [Quinter] All right.

- Gonna be ridin' a,

The driver's seat there Jesse?

- [Narrator 1] Kenny Youngblood is better known

for drawing cars than cattle,

but for this design, he brought his bullpen.

- The kids are just gonna love this.

The Low rider guys are gonna love it.

Any motor sport enthusiast really

is gonna have to get a kick out of this.

This could start a whole new trend.

[bull moos]

- So I think base our basic elements are

a lot of suspension, batteries, pumps and dumps.

You know, a bunch of hydraulic hoses.

Probably just do some tubular u bends.

We'll cover that with sheet metal,

and then cover it with some cow hide.

I think that's it, you know.

- And you gotta get some kind of truss level going here.

[men laugh]

- [Kenny] This'll be a, man,

you'll be the first bull rider in history

to ride a low rider.

- Probably. I don't think this has been done before.

- There it is.

- Cool.

- There's his Monster.

- Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

As long as you can ride it, we can build it.

- [Quinter] Yep.

- Right on. Let's get it on.

- [Narrator 1] The plan:

Inject a lethal dose of hip hop and Low rider hydraulics,

and build a steel bull seat to shake and break

any bow-legged c*ck cow punk.

[upbeat music]

Day 2.

You can almost hear the jingling

of switch blades and spurs,

as the build team of Vacas and Vaqueros

arrive for the showdown.

Rob Smets has been fighting bulls for 26 Longhorn years.

He's from Clover, Texas.

Ed "MacGuyver" Sifuentes takes low riders

to new heights in Van Nuys, California.

Eric Jones works for Pro Hopper,

a custom low rider hydraulics manufacturer

in Los Angeles, California.

No way Quinter Pittillo is going to miss this build.

And Chad Denton's gonna make sure there's no bologna

in the monster bull.

- Yo.

So we're gonna build kind of a bull riding car,

kind of a mechanical bull, but a real one

that we could drive around.

- Who's gonna be driving it while I ride it you?

- [Jesse James] I'll drive it.

- All right.

We're gonna take the spring shocks and sway bars off.

Time for the hard part,

figuring out how to build it back up.

- [Ed] Should we take the leafs off of it?

- [Quinter] No, we don't even need to take no leafs off.

Leave the leafs on the bottom for the weight.

- [Ed] Those scraps don't do anything

but hold the leafs in place.

- [Narrator 1] Hydraulics hot shots, Ed and Quinter,

- [Quinter] Yeah. Then we got, take in consideration.

The movement at the top, you know what I mean?

- When this thing's jumping off the ground 3 foot.

It's gonna move at least 6 or 8 inches.

- Yeah but, he's gonna have the bed going upward

there might be - It's gonna go high.

We're not gonna,

what size cylinders you gonna put in it 10s, 12s?

- [Quinter] Yeah, 10s.

- So, there's plenty of room.

It's only gonna move whatever the coil allows it to.

- Right. And the coil's gonna collapse completely

when it's hoping 3 foot off the ground.

- There's plenty of room up there.

- Alright man.

- [Ed] I'm just saying for when he does side to side,

you ain't gotta worry about losing anything, you know it's-

- Well if you put deep cuts on the axle,

you didn't gotta worry about losing anything either.

- You could,

but you still gotta fasten that coil down to it.

- Alls you gotta do is put weld the platform on there

and put a deep cup on it. Nothing won't never go nowhere.

- That's my opinion. I'm just saying coil over.

That's my opinion.

Love working on cars.

So pretty much you put something in front of me

and it's like dinner.

I'll just go right at it and I won't stop till I'm done.

Pretty much self taught everything I know

as far as hydraulics, practicing on my own vehicles.

Many years ago people used to actually

steal pumps off of lift gate trucks

just to get their systems to work on their car.

You know, get their cars going up and down.

I think it's mostly pride, fun,

and show what you can do out there.

- Well let's make this list.

- All three quarter inch all thread?

- Yep. Need some nice heavy duty chain.

I don't know what size links.

How are we gonna mount the bull?

Are we gonna mount it with

struts coming off each four corners,

or are we gonna put it on a pipe?

- Chad and I can get him mounted.

- [Chad] I don't know, they kick.
