event called TIC-CON,
which is like a conference.

asked to go,
and I was asked
to speak on a panel.
-At TIC-CON?
-Mm-hmm.
-That's pretty exciting.

And where exactly is TIC-CON?
It's in Dallas.

a convention center.
But you got to...
I don't want to go
on the plane, like...
Do you know
who would go with you
to help you to be able
to navigate the airport,
so you don't have to do it
by yourself?
[Baylen] Probably my mom.
But there's other things
that go into it
other than flying.
Like, how I could pick up
some of their tics.
Yeah, you pick up tics
on a daily basis,
from anything and everything.
And so, I feel, like,
it would be
selling yourself short
by not taking
this opportunity.
I mean, maybe somebody
feels alone,
and then you tell your story,
and they feel like
they aren't alone anymore.
I can understand
Baylen's concerns
about wanting to go
to TIC-CON,
particularly
about, like, flying.
And I wish
that I could be there
to help her through it,
but I have to work.
But given the fact
that Baylen and I have
talked about having
a future together,
I think trying to push through
this anxiety that she has
is a bigger step for her
and her independence.
Because she's doing something
that she's not necessarily
comfortable with.
Going into an environment
like that allows you
to experience
other people's struggles
and to just relate
to everyone else.
And that's your biggest thing,
is that you feel like
you haven't been able
to really relate to anybody.
This opportunity helps you
to do that.

much more confident
knowing that I have my parents
and Colin
trust me and think
that I am able to do things
that I wouldn't think
I would be able to do.

why I asked is because
me and mom are going
to TIC-CON in Dallas.
And I know that she usually
takes you to your games.
So, I just didn't know
kind of how that would work.
[Bechnir] How long is it?
[Baylen] It's two days.
I wasn't really sure
if I wanted to go.
But with people
being there with, um,
tics in the same condition
that I have, um--
It would make you feel, like,
more comfortable, kinda?
Yeah, and it definitely would.
But do you know
how common it is
for people to have tics?
No.
It's in one
in every five people
without even noticing
that you're doing it,
you're doing it.
Like Burke.
That's a tic.
You do not have to have
Tourette's to have tics.
There's other tic disorders.
Everyone in my family
has had tics.
And Bechnir
has already experienced
a wide range of tics.
[clicks tongue]
It's common.
Even though Tourette's
can be hereditary,
it's not a concern right now.
But Bechnir's tics
are kind of, like,
the same way as mine in a way.
Because he's at the age
where mine started.
-I remember
you used to have...

...like,
a throat clearing tic.
Or if you even knew
that that was a tic.
No, I did not know
that was a tic.
Did you feel
like you had to keep doing it?
Kinda. Yeah.

-It's common.
But having tics doesn't mean
that you have Tourette's.

I'm not gonna put something
in his head.
Because going too much
into the future
and expecting
what his life's gonna be
at 15, 16 years old
is unreasonable.
But it's like, you need
to, like, not bury it.
You're so easygoing.
And you make friends so easy.
And, like, you're also someone
I've met who's also, like...

and just be ready
for anything.
And we know
what happens when...

with the overstimulation
there.
