09x09 - Mean, Green and Bitchin'

Post by bunniefuu »

-Ready?
-[both] Break!

[Kevin] If you burn me,
I'll k*ll you.

[Kyler] I know,
that's why I'm worried.

All right, here goes nothing.

-Chassis.
-[Dave exclaims]

Badass engine.

-It's gonna go.
-[Dave] This is the blackes
black you can get.

-Call that bitchin'.
-Oh, yeah.

Kind of mean and stealthy.

-[imitates fitting sound]
-Easy!

This is going to be
a lot more difficult.

-[exclaims]
-I'm gonna cut it.

I'm trying to be funny
and I suck at it.

-That's how you do it.
-Stay tuned.

I don't like it.

[Kevin] Get ready
for the madness.

[laughs]

[Dave] When I look
at a blank canvas,
I see endless possibilities

As the ideas come to mind,

the lines start
to fall into place.

And before you know it,

we have a Bitchin' Ride.

[tires screeching]

[Dave] A Bitchin' Ride
has intense colors.

This is gorgeous.

Performance.

[man] It's fantastic.

[Dave] Stance, wheels, sound

There's one thing that make
our cars stand out,

our are Bitchin' Rides.

-Oh, that never gets old!
-[man laughs]

[Dave] Spring has arrived
and I can dig it.

The grass is getting greener
the trees are filling in.

Birds are chirping.

And I'm feeling
extremely creative.

Fuel line.

That way doesn't do
us any good.

'Cause we don't have any idea
where the [bleep] floor is.

Not everyone's in such
a cheery mood.

I don't hear any birds
chirping in my world.

-Hi.
-Hi.

-[Kevin] What are you doing?
-We're gonna color all these?

-Why? Are you
coloring stuff today?
-Yeah.

-It's like,
just before Easter.
-I know.

You wanna borrow...

-You want me to get you
one of these?
-No.

Then it looks what
you're really working.

No, that looks like
you're really baking.

It's a busy day in the shop.

Everyone's working.

I just don't know
what Dave's doing.

We have paintbrushes here.
You know, you can't paint.

Can't bake with paintbrushes.

Looks like you're gonna
decorate a cake there.

-Okay.
-[Kevin laughs]

[Dave] I'm just gonna do that.

[Kevin] I appreciate
it though.

[Dave] You got it.

As he's off decorating cake
or whatever he's doing
in the shop,

I got real work to do.

-Okay, Kyler.
-Yup.

-That one's a different size.
We need a top one.
-[Kyler] Oh.

Hey, keep those on you,
we're gonna need both of 'em.

Okay.

One of my duties here
at Shop Foreman

is to definitely break
in the new guys.

-Should be an inch
and a quarter.
-Yup.

What do you wanna do?

I don't wanna do
anything right now.
I just want you to get ready.

Get ready for the madness.

Oh, we're just doing
shop [bleep].

Working with Kevin,
it's a lot of fun.

Most of the times.

Here.

You're gonna need that.
Unless you're gonna
eyeball it.

It's not really what
I'm looking for today.

It's a lot more exhausting
than people think

'cause I really
put the effort in

getting on top of these guys.

Hey, happy birthday,
mother [bleep].

Gotta get it done, bro.

Do not destroy my threads.
I at least need it
down to there.

Okay.

So, sorry, if I'm short,
we just got to get it
[bleep] done.

I got no time to [bleep]
party below.

Kevin has a lifetime
of experience

working with the guys
in the shop.

And he's pretty
damn good at it.

[Kevin] If you burn me,
I'll k*ll you.

-[Kyler] I know,
that's why I'm worried.
-[Kevin] Let's go.

[Kyler] Mother [bleep]
Sorry, I got...

It shocked me, bro.

[Kevin] Don't burn me.

[Kyler] Shocked me.

There was definitely
a death threat or two

and a lot
of swearing involved.

Regular day with Kev, though.

[Kevin] Just commit.

Okay, hold up.

Now, when you
attack it like that,

then you just grab it
and make sure that
it's [bleep] semi-straight.

-It doesn't have
to be perfect.
-[Kyler] Okay.

[Kevin] And usually, if you
got halfway decent tack,

you can kinda
just manipulate this around.

Pretty decent.

Pretty good. Weld it up.

I want everyone here
to succeed.

I may bark a lot,
but I don't bite.

Usually.

[bleep] See?

[bleep] what? [bleep] what?

Is that the hole I used?
Is that the hole I used?

-Yeah.
-No.

No.

If it feels like it's
bottoming out, it is.

'Cause the holes on it
are so deep.

And then, take this,

and tighten the nut up to it.

That makes sense?

And then, we'll start to
balance the car

and we'll be [bleep] done
with it.

I mean, then,
we'll be done with this.

Are you getting all that
swearing in my audio?

Sorry.

Sorry, Mom.

If they use a bleep there,
I'm sorry.

I've learned a lot
from Kevin actually.

Quite a bit of stuff
in the last three years,
to be honest with you.

Turn it down
a little bit lower.

This is 16, so turn that down.

So, you don't burn through.

'Cause you're right
on the edge of the pipe.

-Yeah.
-Got it to 16th? 16th?

Low four?

No, look at this.
Look at the metal.

Look at the metal thing.

[Kyler] 16 gauge.

No, not 16 gauge.

-What's below eight?
-Six.

No. So, here,
like, right here.

Okay.

Do these. And then,
we'll turn it back up.

Because this base material
is way thicker. Okay?

Roll, roll with it.
Weld these both up first.

[Kyler] All right.

[Kevin] Being a hard worker
is very important
when you're learning

and you're just starting out.

But if you burn me,
I will k*ll you.

-Can I see it? [bleep]
-[Kyler] That's it. [bleep]

Let's see it.

-Hopefully, none of these
welds break, dude.
-[Kyler] Yeah, hopefully.

That was funny.

No? Not funny.

Tough crowd.

Last time on Bitchin' Rides

a '69 Camaro showed up
at the shop.

-So, how bad is it?
-[Kevin] There's a lot
of problems back here.

I think these bars right here

are the only thing
keeping this thing in shape.

Um...

I think that you're probably
thinking the exact
same thing I am.

I think that just starting
fresh with a brand new body
is by far the smartest thing.

[Mike] If I'm gonna do it,
let's do it right.

Let's just do the full deal.

Well, I just got goosebumps.

We started from scratch
with an entire new body.

A Roadster Shop chassis
and a Mercury engine
to go underneath it

to make it bitchin'.

Moved a couple of throttle
bodies out of the way.

Tubbed it, and made a lot mo
room for much bigger tires.

Flush mounted
the front rear glass.

And smoothed off the sides.

And we even did some
really cool 3D printed

innovative stuff for the hood.

These vents are sweet.

All the fabrication is done

The systems are all in place

And now, it's time
for the body shop.

But we do have one last
modification for this bit.

We're gonna go ahead
and install these 3D printed
hood scoops on to the hood

and hopefully, they fit
as well in the real world

as they do on the computer.

[Eric] Greg printed out
these really nice louvers.

And I'm trying not to mess
it up by getting too fast.

So, we're gonna cut out
the structure first.

This thing should be
able to sit right in there.

And that'll give me
a good, clean path

to cut out the skin
of the hood

and lay the top part
of the louver up.

I'm gonna sneak up on it
a little bit at a time.

Try not to get
too carried away.

All right, here goes nothing.

[Kevin] When making a hood
modification like this
on any hood,

the understructure is probab
the most important thing
to deal with.

And it's probably
one of the most difficult.

Installing the vent
will actually make
the hood more rigid.

Which in turn is easier
to body work and will hold
its shape better.

So, we are planning on

getting this
to sandwich together.

And then, we'll go back
and we'll re-foam
the structure here

and get everything floating
at a proper height.

And once this is all
pinching together,

it's gonna be
pretty strong, so...

-I thought it was a good idea
to start on the structure.
-Totally.

Just show me
reference points that

if it fits right, it's in
the right spot. You know?

It looks spot on.

Hell, yeah. Looks good.

So far, so good.
I haven't messed up yet.

Looks freaking great.

Perfect.

-Too easy.
-[man] Too easy.

[chuckles softly]

Gonna scribe the inside
of that and cut out the skin
of the hood.

And this thing should be able
to sandwich together
after that.

So, here we go.

Pretty precise plan, like,
about a three-sixteenth
of an inch.

Kinda gotta nail it
first try on this.

I'm gonna cut it.

I'm not even gonna ask
for permission on this one.
Just gonna cut it.

[Kevin] It's a two-piece
printed vent.

So, basically,
we have to cut a hole.

And it bolts together
and you have a vent.

So, now, I save an entire st
of fabrication,

when something
can just be printed.

As long as it works.

Okay. Let's see if they fit.

Little snug. But that's how
we like it. Right, guys?

He did a really
good job with these.

Fit in perfect. And made 'em
dummy proof, so I like that.

[Kevin] Oh, wow!

[Eric] How are we gonna
get this to sit?

I'm pumped, dude.
Those look pretty legit.

You know what Dave's gonna
want in here. Right?

Oh, he's got some grills
that he's making up.

-So...
-[Kevin] Is there
room for 'em?

[Eric] Yeah, check it out.
He's got these little
backers that he's made.

Oh, hell yeah.

[Eric] They're like
pre-thought of, they're kinda
dummy proof. You know?

We've done enough
of these, dude.

Awfully nice of 'em.

-Hell, yeah.
-[Eric] I think it's ready
for body, brother.

[Kevin] I like it.

Hell, yeah.
Let's do a high-five.

-[snaps fingers]
-[high five]

What is that for?
What is that? [snaps fingers]

Just a little extra good luck
or something. I don't know.

-I like that.
Let me try it, dude.
-[snaps fingers, high five]

-Hell, yeah.
-[Eric] Try to do it
like in a...

[snaps fingers]

-Like in a--
-A little smoother,
you'll get it.

-Give me a little...
Give me a chance.
-[both chuckle]

Right on. I'm out of here.

[Dave] The body shop guys
have been perfecting

every last square inch
of this body.

And it's starting to look
pretty darn nice.

[Kevin] The guide coat,
basically, helps the body ma

see the panel versus feel it

If he puts the black powder
on there and he runs
a flat rock across there,

then that makes it perfectl
even from one panel
to the next.

Not every shop
does that, we do.

It's just the Kindig It way

[Dave] The body work
is about finished up.

Panel match is completed.

Gaps are perfect.

And the customers are on their
way to check it out.

Right on, guys.

Well, it's been
a couple of months

since we got rocking
and rolling on this thing.

-Man.
-What do you think?

-[Brett] That's awesome.
-[man] That's killin'.

-[Dave] Right?
-[Brett] That's awesome.

-[Dave chuckles]
-Call that bitchin'.

It's bitchin', all right.

Yes, man.
That is awesome. Man!

So, we... You sent us that
original rendering

and I'm not really sure
if we're sold on that
hockey strap.

I'm... I don't like it.

[Dave] We've truly
taken this Camaro

from rags to riches.

The clients are here to
check out the progress

and their initial reaction
was not exactly what
I was expecting.

I'm... I don't like it.

Mike and his boys wanna make
a change to this car.

The original design had
a hockey stick stripe on it.

Which now, they want
to get rid of.

And I'm okay with that.

There's just a lot of 'em
out there.

-There is a lot of 'em.
-[Mike] And I'm just not sold.

So, sometimes, less is more.

-And what I--
-What would you recommend.

Well, at the end of the day,
it's your car, so I'll do
whatever you want.

I don't... I wasn't...

sold on it completely.

But after I saw the renderin

then, I was like, "No, I think
we need to do away with it."

You just went straight black
with a nice contrasting
interior color.

Tie in the calipers,
the motor.

-Drivetrain through
that and...
-Yeah.

...don't do so much.

You can always
add that later on.

It's harder to take it off
than it is to put it on.

That would be my direction.

I'm... I didn't know for sure
what we need to do,

but I like that.
You're just saying, just...

-Yeah.
-[Mike] Okay.

-So, I'm okay with that.
-I think that's probably
the direction that

we wanna go,
what do you think?

I will take it off, too.

-I just think black
is classier.
-[Dave] Mmm-hmm.

We're getting rid
of the stripe.

I think that's a good idea.

I think black is classy.

I'm glad we got to this point

'cause I think the graphic
is really cool,

-but again, it does have
a tendency to date itself.
-That's right.

-If we're not digging it,
we'll just get rid of it.
-Okay.

We haven't started
painting yet,

so any changes right now
are just fine.

I think this car's gonna look
sweet, just straight black.

The black paint, is it...

-I know you create a lot
of your own colors.
-Mmm-hmm.

Do you have a black that's...

I'm actually working on
a new black that's even
darker than black hole black.

-Stay tuned.
-[Mike] Cool.

[all chuckling]

I'm excited to get rid
of the hockey stripe.

-Cool.
-Yeah, I just... I want
the black to be as cold

and on the blue side of black
as you can.

I wanna be able to make it
look like you can just
stick your hand into it.

And yeah. So, it's...

-I can't wait to see that.
-My guy is...

I've got some really good guys
that know how to

put a really nice
car together,

especially for a black
paint job.

So, the body work on this car
is going to be a 110 percent.

It has a nice,
aggressive stance.

It actually looks like
that's the way they may hav
done it back in 1969.

-Awesome.
-[Dave] That's
pretty cool. Huh?

-[Brett] Yeah.
-[Dave] Yeah.

The body work they do here
is just phenomenal.

So, we've shaved
all of the rest of the lights
off the front of the car.

We got the fog lights down low

- which is going to be
really cool.
-[Brett] Right.

-It's just nice and clean.
-[Mike] That's pretty good.

[Dave] Bumper's pulled in
nice and tight into the car

-Got your billet hinges bac
here which is really nice.
-[Brett] Sweet.

Here's your gas cap.

Just from the top
of the quarter,
nice and clean.

-I like that.
-[Dave] Yeah.

Everything is
as close to perfect

as I believe it can be.

Yeah, the flush mount glass...

-[Mike] Okay.
-[Dave] Looks k*ller
on this car.

So, 'cause we got rid of al
the window trim chrome.

And all of the stuff,
everything is blacked out.

And just keep this
smooth and clean.

-That's it.
-This is classy.

That's right.

[Dave] Check this out.
They're 3D printed though.

They're heat stable.
I can paint 'em.

-You can see
what it looks like.
-[Mike] That's awesome.

These will be body colored?

We'll do 'em in black
and basically,
just kinda fade in.

It's just a nice piece
that just kinda flows
with the rest of the car.

k*ller horsepower.
This thing is gonna
sound awesome.

I got all stainless exhaust
all the way back.

Ultimate headers,
so on that SP4...

[kisses]

-[Mike chuckles]
-[Dave] So badass.

Let me move these
real quick...

[Mike] Glad you
talked me into that.

-Yeah.
-[Dave] I'm glad
you went with it.

'Cause I was really excited
to use it.

-[Mike] How many horsepower
is this now?
-[Dave] 750.

-[Mike] Naturally aspirated
-[Dave] Yup.

And it's got a ton of torque.

-And what RPM is that?
-8,200.

-8,200.
-[Dave chuckles]

So, we got the intake
manifold off of it.

-It's really cool.
-[Brett] Awesome.

-[Dave] This car
is gonna scream.
-[Brett] That's awesome.

[Mike] Oh, man, I love it.

-[Dave] What do you
think?
-[Ronny] That is k*ller.

-[Dave] Yeah, you like that
-[Ronny] That's pretty sweet

What color are you gonna
do the frame on this?

Black. I'm gonna powder coat
it, so it can be used.

I mean, we're not gonna blow
kisses at the car.

This is truly something
that'll be a show car

in the sense
that it's perfect.

I want you guys to
get in this car and go rip it.

-You know?
-I can't wait.

They made more black paint,
if you get a rock chip,
we'll touch it up.

-That's right.
-So, I'm actually able to put

a 13 inch wide wheel
in the back of this car
which is rad.

That's perfect, honestly.

I mean, with that
amount of power,

you want a lot of meat
back there to be putting it
to the ground.

[Dave] You are tubbed,
my friend.

We are going big.

-Awesome.
-Yup.

It's gonna have a k*ller look
from behind.

People are gonna know,
they don't wanna mess with it.

So, you gonna have
a good radio in?

It's gonna have a big
badass stereo.

-Perfect.
-Probably 210s in the back
of this all day long.

-Awesome.
-Four mid and tweak combos.

-All kickers,
it's badass stuff. So, yeah
-[Brett] Awesome.

[Dave] This is
the chick magnet.

[all chuckling]

-I don't know if I need one
at my age.
-[Dave chuckles]

-Right?
-Maybe these guys do.

Hey, fellas. What do you know
about chick magnets?
You want 'em no more.

I'm so happy with the way that
this Camaro is turning out,

it's time to get paint on it.

So, overall, we've only got
about another, I don't know,
three weeks,

maybe four weeks total

for blocking and priming
and everything else.

-Awesome.
-And this thing
is gonna be dialed.

-Can't wait to see it.
-[Dave] Me, too.

I mean, this thing is just
badass, isn't it?

-[all chuckling]
-Gonna sound good.

It's awesome.

This thing is gonna scream.

I can't wait
to borrow it, Dad.

-Sorry, fellas.
-[all laughing]

You'll be behind these guys,
I'd imagine.

Well, I think I have
seniority, so...

-[all laughing]
-You're the youngest, Cole?

-Brett, you're...
-I'm the oldest.

-How old are you?
-30.

I got you by 21.

-[all laughing]
-I was drinking beer
when you were born, son.

-[all laughing]
-Hey, Dad, I'll call you
later on the car.

-[all laughing]
-[Dave] Awesome.

-Hey, Dad, can I
borrow the car?
-[all chuckling]

[Dave] We're cruising
right along on this
bitchin' Camaro.

The body work
is absolutely flawless.

There is so much beautiful
lines on this car now,

it's amazing.

Now, it's time to get the ca
split off of the chassis.

Get it jigged up
on to the rotisserie

and get it in the booth.

[Kevin] So, now, we're gonn
get the body off.

We're gonna get
the chassis out.

We're gonna make
a couple minor adjustments.

We're gonna get the body
on the rotisserie.

Get it back to body,
so they can get it painted.

And we'll be putting
this thing back together
in no time.

Normally, a Camaro
doesn't have a chassis.

But this is full Roadster Sh
chassis, front to back.

Normally, it has a sub-frame

And then, normally,
the leaf springs bolt
into the back.

That's all been
removed, obviously.

There's so many different
moving parts when you separa
a body from a chassis.

You wanna make sure that
everything is disconnected

and it all comes off smoothl

So, nothing gets tweaked,
bent or moved around.

There you go.

Just like that. There you go.

[singing] ♪ Riding around ♪

♪ Robbing banks, so fat ♪

♪ And getting Scooby snacks ♪

That's how you do it.

So, next step,
now that the body is split,

we'll get this thing jigged
on the rotisserie.

We'll get it spinning.

We're gonna balance it.

The guys are gonna do some
tidbits on the bottom.

And it should be ready to go
back to the body site
and get painted.

The procedure is what
I like to do,

what I find is most efficien

for something like this is
just to get all the poles in

and then, square the rack up

and then, I'll bring the poles
either to the side

or to the top,
depending on the lengths.

If you wanna sit here
and mess around all day

and cut 'em all perfect
to fit this stuff,

I prefer just to pull this
to the side of it
and weld it on.

It's just as strong,
it's not going anywhere.

And it just saves
so much more time.

Probably got one more,
two more sets of poles
to put in

and we'll be wrapped up.

And once we tighten
these things up, we'll level
this rotisserie out.

We're gonna get this
back squared up.

Throw that on the bottom.

And we're gonna
get this tacked on

and we're gonna
weld up everything.

Stand back and look at it.
Make sure you like
the way it looks.

Make sure you like the way
everything's dialed in.

Let's loosen the main
cranks here.

Just enough to make it turn.

Good.

Grab a hold of it,
so it doesn't turn.

And then, just do me a favor.

If you're gonna touch this,
help tear it apart,
you need gloves on.

This is pretty much
prepped for paint,

I don't need your
oils in it, please.

How does it feel?

Mostly turn this way.

Let me see it.

-Let me have it.
-[Kyler] Okay.

Perfect.

-Do you have it?
-No.

It's perfect.

-Hopefully, those
welds don't break.
-[Kyler] Yeah, I know.

[Kevin] Let's get all this
[bleep] picked up.

I'm very happy with that.

Yeah, it's all done.
All the metal repairs
are done.

It's ready to go to body.

This car's truly what we wou
call a show driver.

So, it needs to be very nice

But at the same time, we wan
make it very usable.

So, the entire bottom
of the car is gonna get
a German rocker chute.

And this should ensure
that we have

good sound deadening
as well as
good reliability of the pain

not chipping off.

just as spotless as possible

[Dave] I've seen painted
panels with this black on it

but not a car yet.

This is gonna be exciting
to see the entire car done.

[man speaking]

Transfer efficiency?

Transfer efficiency.

It's...

Transfer efficiency
is the amount...

Um... And efficiency is...

So...

[laughs] I kinda lost thought.

-[man laughing in background]
-Sorry.

So, I don't know.
I'm [bleep] stupid.

Don't put a camera on my face.

My brain just shuts down
and I don't know what to say.

Are you booming me?

[bleep] Where should
I be looking? I feel stupid.

[man] Just look right here.

[clears throat]

Okay, let me organize
my thoughts again. [chuckles]

Um... Hmm.

Oh, do I look like a painter?

Transfer efficiency is a myth.

It's when Dave does
the graphic on one side

and he transfers it
to the other.

That's efficiency.

It's a lie

thought up by body men trying
to make things interesting.

[chuckles]

I'm trying to be funny
and I suck at it.

Transfer efficiency.
Let me give you my
bank account number

and you need to put $1,000

and see how efficient
I use that money.

That's transfer efficiency.

That's dumb.

-Trust me. Let me get
my account number.
-I'm good.

Give me your account number,
that will be great.

-It's to put money in,
not take it out.
-[Kevin laughs]

[Shannon] Transfer efficiency.

When you try to get
the material on the car...

without wasting so much.

[Brian] Transfer efficiency
is the amount
of paint

that goes from the g*n
on to the car.

The more paint
that goes into the air,

the lower
the transfer efficiency.

So, when people say,
"Yeah, I sprayed three gallons
of primer on this car,"

you know, it's no.

Only about half of that
went on that car.

[Yoan] Transfer efficiency
means high efficiency.

You transfer
the material without

wasting a lot of material

and achieving the finish
that you're looking for.

[Brian] You know, the more
material that goes
into the air,

the more money
you're wasting. So...

It's the efficiency
to transfer things.

[Shannon]
The higher the air pressure

the more you're gonna actual
sh**t out into the air.

And you can keep it low,
it's better.

For, like, black,
you can do that.

There's a fine line between...

efficiency and effectiveness.

Like, I used to keep
my air pressure really low
when doing side work.

And my paint
looked like [bleep].

Takes a lot of experience
to get right.

[Yoan] We use here, g*ns tha

you need a lot of buildup.

You try to build
as much material as you can.

That's why we use these
HVLP g*ns now

instead of siphon fed.

They let the paint
get on the car more.

They atomize better.

And it gets on the body mor
than just in the atmosphere

[Brian] It also has to do wi

how good the painter is

at handling the g*n.

You know, does he have his
air pressure setup right?

If you got your
air pressure too high,

you're atomizing a lot more
material and it's going out
into the paint tubes.

It's the efficiency
to transfer things.

It's just that simple.

That's basically, what it is.

[Brian] Cutting
and polishing black.

Black is the hardest.

When we're doing a cut
and polish job,

they're basically
all the same...

fundamentally speaking.

From the steps that we take
from start to finish,

they're all basically
the same.

When you're working
with darker colors,
especially with black,

they reflect a lot more ligh

than other colors.

It's very unforgiving for any
imperfections in the body work

for the prep.

Little pieces of dirt

or a sand scratch that didn'
get sanded all the way out.

Or if you haven't
polished enough

and machine isn't quite righ

With a lot of other colors,
you would never notice.

So, any imperfection is ther
is gonna show up a lot easie

with black than say, a red

or a yellow.

White hides a ton.

So, black is very demanding

because you have to work
the surface a lot longer
than with other colors.

It's gotta be perfect.

Yeah, I got the fan on

because I'm just hot.
So, I gotta cool myself down.

Oh, yeah. [chuckles]

[chuckling] I don't
really know.

[Dave] While Big Sexy
is trying to cool down,

it's time to turn my attention
to the interior.

So, when Mike and Brett
were out here the last time

they gave me
the opportunity to get
rid of the hockey stripes.

The whole outside

is done super smooth
and all black.

Also, they gave me
the opportunity to change

the interior color
if I really wanted to.

I decided to go with anothe
color I was really
inspired with.

And it's a really cool
olive green color.

All the trees and grass
this spring have really
got me motivated

to think about greens.

Green is the new black.

So, the inside of this thin
is going to be really kick a
olive green.

And I think that we have
an exact match

in an Alcantara material

which would be really nice
to pull into the door panel

as well as in the backrest
and the bottoms of the seats

This will just give
a little bit of texture chan

which should really make it
a little bit more interestin

Overall, no bright work
on the inside.

Everything is gonna get
painted in a gloss black

as the column,

the center
of the steering wheel,
the horn button.

This is really
gonna look trick.

Also, for all
of the French seams,

I think I'm either gonna do
a black or a matching
green stitch.

This, I think, is gonna
look awesome.

What do you think?

You buying what I'm selling?

Oh, baby, everything is back.

[Jason] Yeah, we have
all kinds of stuff.

[Dave] Chrome,
we got some paint.

Woo-hoo!

-Motor looks awesome,
by the way.
-[Jason] Yes.

[Dave] I'm really liking
the green with the black.

-[Jason] It's gonna look goo
-[Dave] It's gonna look
just k*ller.

Did you see the body?

They're almost unpolishing it.
It is beautiful.

Chassis.

[Dave] Man, this is definitely
the way to go.

You know, adding the full
chassis in that car,

this is gonna set the stance,
just k*ller, all independent.

-Looks like you got
the control arms back here.
-[Jason] Yeah.

Got those, too.

-[Dave exclaims]
-We're gonna start
going ham on it.

[Dave] That thing is gonna
just fall together.

[imitates the sound]

-Just like that.
-[Jason] Exactly.

[Dave] I'm so excited
to see it.

Far out. I'm excited.

[chuckles]

So, yeah.
It's looking good, man.

You guys will be done, like,
tomorrow, then. Right?

[chuckles]

Look at these guys, like...

Keep plugging away,
I can't wait to see it
together tomorrow.

-That will be nice.
-Good job. Keep it up.

-[Jason] Will do.
-[Dave] Looks good, guys.

[Kevin] Putting a car togeth
in assembly

is one of my favorite parts
of the whole process.

Let's get exhaust done.

Let's get the sway bars
tied up.

-Let's get...
-The rest of the suspension
is missing.

The steering rods,
front and rear.

[Jason] Tighten all
the brake lines before
we get the body on,

-so we don't have
that issue later.
-Yeah.

[Jason]
We're just gonna build a car.

All the pieces are in place.
I just need to motivate 'em.

-Ready?
-Ready, set, go.

Break! Go! Do it!

-[Jason] He means now.
-Go!

I'm so excited
regarding this car

because this is just
a naturally aspirated
badass engine.

[Kenny] Everything about
this engine is cool.

It's SP4, seven liter.

It's running at 11.7:1
compression ratio.

Come stock at 750 horse.

So, pretty rowdy engine.

[Kevin] So dope.

I do like the engine.
It's a good time.

It's gonna be fun.

I love this engine.

And with this, 6 feed manual

just gonna be
a blast to drive.

This thing revs up to like,

Epic.

Let's set it in there and see
how it goes.

It's gonna go.

[Kevin] You got lock tight?
We need lock tight.

Hey, Tim. Grab the lock tigh

Can we get some [bleep]
lock tight, Tim? [bleep]

[Jason] Damn it, Tim.
Go and get me some
[bleep] lock tight!

[Tim exclaims]

Hell, yeah!

The chassis, the engine,
the body,

every single step needs to b
carefully ex*cuted.

We've done this before.

As long as everybody
does their job correctly,

this thing is gonna
go together super smooth.

That looks great.

I think it's gonna be great.

-Money.
-That looks great.

I'm really gonna enjoy
this color combination.

I've seen the interior design.

Money.

And that's worth four fishes!

-Oh! It almost went in there.
-One more.

You know, installing
the body back on this
custom built chassis

is kind of a big
hurdle for us.

And I think that does deserv
something sweet.

-Bring it here, brother.
-Oh, so close.

Mmm-hmm!

[exclaims]

Assembly is doing their magi

All the parts are going
back on the car perfectly.

And this is starting
to actually look like
a completed vehicle.

[Jason] Right now we're under
the wires for the whole
front end of the car.

Head light wiring, et cetera,
et cetera.

Getting ready to throw
some doors on.

Put things in people's way.
That's what we like to do.

Make sure everything
is squared, whatnot.

Right dimensions for the hoo

And then,
we'll zero it in from there

[Tim] I think these lights
are very cool.

I think it really lights up
the front end.

Hey, Kenny, I think it works.

-Super... Super excited.
-[all chuckling]

Yeah, we got it, buddy.

-[Dave] Hey, Justin. Oh, goo
you got the rendering, so..
-[Justin] Got it.

-[Dave] What do you think?
I do too.
-[Justin] I like it a lot.

-It's all gonna be green.
-[Dave] Mmm-hmm.

[Justin] Little different
than some of the stuff
we've done in the past.

-[Dave] Mmm-hmm.
-I really like the design.

Cool. Me, too. Me, too.

So, couple of things.
All of the bright work

that we normally would have it
all polished and stuff,

I was gonna do 'em
in gloss black.

I like that.
That's different also.

Yeah, just no chrome in there.

I want it just very minimal.

I just want it to look
super clean

and really kinda mean
and stealthy.

The design worked out
perfectly with the green
and black.

I cannot wait to see
the entire thing put together.

It's gonna look rad.

Here's what I was thinking,

what if we were to do...
because we have the green
leather on the dash,

and these, the top main part
of the top in Alcantara.

Right? It'd be kinda cool.

-I like it.
-Leave Alcantara up on top.

It'd be a really trick piece

because normally when we do
a headliner,

we always do it
in one material.

-It's never two.
-Yeah.

So, I'd like to incorporate
that Alcantara,

just this one strip across
the top of the door panel.

I think it would be
really cool.

And maybe we pull something
into the bottom

and into top of the backs
of the seat.

-Just to tie that in,
just a little bit.
-Okay.

I do have a few questions here
on the seat design.

This is gonna be tuck
and roll, not stitch, correct?

Correct. I do not want to see
a stitch in the pleats.

-[Justin] Wanna do
a tuck and roll here?
-[Dave] Correct.

[Justin] And tuck and roll
on the panels?

[Dave] Yeah, I don't wanna
look at the stitches.

-I think it will look
a lot cleaner.
-What color stitching?

-Well, I'm not sure.
-I saw the samples up.

-You want...
-[Dave] Yeah. Oh, yeah.

[Justin] We can make
a call right now.

[Dave] Black or green.

-I think I like the black.
-I like 'em both,

but I think the black
is the way to go with
this design.

It's a good green.
This is the green color
which is really nice.

That is the right color
of green, I would say.

With this black, I think
it would be a little bit more
performance looking,

little more muscular.

-Is this your heaviest gauge?
-Yeah, that's
the heaviest gauge.

-[Dave] Let's use that.
I think it's really good.
-[Justin] Okay.

-This is a cool, cool car.
And I'm so excited to see it.
-All right.

[Dave] I'm stoked.
Yeah, I'm pumped.

-Easy!
-[Justin] All right, now.

-Cool.
-[Justin] Cool.

-Okay, man. I'm pumped.
-[Justin] We'll be
rolling on it.

-Thanks, buddy.
-Cool.

[Dave] All right.

[Justin] Sergio has that
dialed in and you
tack coated it, right?

[Tazz] Yes, I tack coated it

[Justin] So, we'll put
a light coat on this.

So, you got this
cut out extra big.

We're not... We don't have
a lot of room side-to-side,

when I say that, I mean,
we have

probably, three inches.

-But that's just how this
comes off the roll.
-[Tazz] Yeah.

[Justin] First up, we got
to get this headliner done
on this Camaro.

And we're using
a different fabric
and it's called Alcantara.

This is actually
really a fabric.

This suede is.

This isn't...
This is a synthetic.

Like, Alcantara
is a synthetic suede.

It's not leather.

A real suede is leather.

I want to do a test piece.

Let's get me a piece cut.

I wanna sh**t it lightly
and make sure

that it doesn't bleed through

to where we can see,
like spots on it.

Before I go gluing
this Alcantara in,

I'm gonna do a test panel

to make sure that everything
goes correctly.

-See, where it got
darker right there?
-[Tazz] Yeah.

That's my biggest concern.

See, how I can see it
bleeding through?

You see that dark spot?

-[Tazz] Yeah.
-[Justin] And that dark spot?

That's those.

But I wanna see if they
dry out.

See that streamer.

Just to see what it does.

'Cause they might dry out
and go away.

It might stain it.

And that's my biggest concern

is the heat and the water.

Sometimes, the fabrics,
when you steam them,

a pile in 'em
will make a mark.

-See, how it kinda looks
camouflaged now.
-[Tazz] Yeah.

We're gonna see right now
'cause I can see every mark
that I just made.

But let's see if it goes away.

I don't know.
It went away, but...

I don't want to take
the chance.

There's still a couple spots,
like, right there.

You don't think
this is holding under water,
so it's staying darker.

It could be,
but it could stain, too.

Yeah.

So, I'm not gonna take
the chance.

Yeah, we're not using
the steamer.

We'll go put a light coat
on that.

Then, we'll come back and put
a light coat on this.

And set it, we cannot
steam this in.

So, I'm gonna lay
a light coat on this.

-You are moving fast, Tazz.
-[Tazz] Yeah.

[Justin] And make sure
it's not clumpy.

Gotta be tack.

So, with the tack coat down,
we have a short window
to get this headliner in.

This is gonna be
a lot more difficult,

but that's why I'm glad
we have four people here.

I have to lay every bit of it.

Everybody's just got to
keep it nice and tight

from edge to edge.

And I'll lay it in there.

Okay, everybody on the corner.

Please.

It's tacking up so fast.

Keep it tight.

And don't touch
any of the edges.

Okay? And I'll center it out.

Remember, don't pinch it.

We don't have a lot of room
at all with this one.

This is gotta be
dead on, guys.

One time.

All right.
Go to your way, Sergio.

Okay, you need
to pull it tight.

We gotta [bleep] hurry here,
we're running out of time.

You gonna want somebody
to flip [bleep] about it

if we come up short.

But...

I don't like...

the mottling at all.
Looks like [bleep].

We'll see how this glues in.
We might steam it.

I can definitely see where
the glue is peaking through,

the distance here,
the mottling.

So, I'm hoping
this is gonna fix that out.

[Justin] Tazz, go
fire up the steamer,
would you, please?

We got so much time in this
headliner right now.

One mistake is gonna
set us back a long ways.

I'm hoping...

And I'm not gonna
steam it, like, heavy.

Hopefully, I can get it out

[Justin] So, not using stea
on this Alcantara

is the way we have to go

because I'm not sure exactl
how that's gonna work.

It might stain it.

We cannot steam this in.

With us not using the steam

we're not getting
the results we want.

I don't like the mottling
at all.

Looks like [bleep].

-Tazz, go fire up the steamer,
would you, please?
-[Tazz] Yeah.

Steaming this headliner out
should get rid of everything.

But I gotta be really
concerned here

that I don't stain.

I'm hoping...

And I'm not gonna steam it,
like, heavy.

Hopefully, I can get it out

It's gotta be finessed,
for sure.

Hopefully, like,
if you look at it right now,

it looks great.

Steam worked perfect.
The headliner's in.

Everything looks great.

Let's get this car
out of here.

Got the full crew on this.

We're gonna go forward and get
this thing finished up.

This green is so nice
and looks so good in a car.

[Tazz] Wanna leave my leather

long enough,

so there's no question if I'm
gonna be short here or there.

Yeah, just starting to dial
everything in.

Making sure I don't
rip the leather.
It's super tight fit.

It's gonna work out good.
I just gotta be careful.

[Tazz] The more glue points
you have, like,

where your glue sticks,

the easier it is to wrap.

[Justin] Now, we're just
trying to make it look like
it's tuck and roll.

But hard graphed.

Cool. Looks nice.

You'd think I would be good
at wrapping Christmas gifts
after this, but I'm not.

[bleep] bucket of [bleep].

[Justin] Console
turned out nice.

We got underneath dash panel

built already on this one.

I'm going here and doing
all the double stitch
right now.

Everything is patterned out
and blind seamed up.

There's a ton of work
and detail in these.

Yeah, it's been pretty tricky,
so I'm excited to see
these covers go on.

Button 'em up.

Put these things in the car
and we'll be done, man.

[Dave] Justin's just about
wrapped up with the interior

No pun intended.

And Mike and Brett
are on their way
to check out the car.

We're here in the 2022
Las Vegas SEMA Show.

And we are getting ready
to give Mike and Brett
their Camaro back.

All right, Mike, Brett,

what better place
to give your car back

than the 2022 SEMA Show.

Never been to SEMA before,
so it's like, real awesome
to see it all together.

So, we're definitely looking
forward to seeing the car.

Are you excited?

-Hell, yeah.
-Oh, yeah.

I can't wait
to see this, Dave.

I turned it over to Dave,
I said, "Dave, just do
your magic."

And make this seem
the ultimate.

And I made
a couple of changes.

Let me know what you think.

[Brett] I was a little nervo
of that.

I can't wait to see it.

-All right.
-Kev, let's take a look
at that bad boy.

-Holy [bleep]
-[Dave chuckles].

I decided to change it up
to something different.

And I was inspired by this
beautiful olive green.

And that's what I went with

That's badass.

-[Dave chuckles]
-Dude, that is awesome.

Dude, that is awesome, man.

[Mike] It just,
it looks perfect.

I love the green
with that black.

It's just, it's awesome.

-What do you think
of the green?
-Yeah, I like it.

That is badass.

I thought it was perfect.
Honestly. I mean, like,

they made it work.
It is a clean looking color

-Dude.
-Colors are crazy.

Kevin, man, it's awesome.

The guys did such a great job
on the body.

[Mike] I didn't know you cou
make black, blacker,
but it is.

I mean, that thing
is beautiful.

You know me,
I don't like cowl hoods.

I wanted to do
something different.

But I didn't want to spend
three months doing
body work on the hood.

[Kevin] Those are special

Not another set
in the world there.

Not an off the shelf part
and I think they're perfect.

[Dave] Check out this.
This is your daytime
running lights.

-Dude, that is bitchin'
right there.
-[Dave] And of course,

it's super, super nice.

-So, can we open the hood now?
-Yeah.

-Yeah, let's go and do that.
-That's my favorite part.

[Dave] This is the money sho
right here.

[Kevin] I mean,
look at that monster.

Damn!

[Dave] This is a Mercury
racing SP4

which is a four cam, 427

with dual throttle bodies.

Putting over

and revving at
over 8,000 RPMs.

Dope!

What's the green for?

Dude, the green,
the color of money.

-[Dave] Yeah.
-Green is the color of money.

Green is for the money,
gold is for the honeys.

-[chuckles]
-That's it.

[Mike] I mean, the engine
compartment is just...

I can't believe how clean
he makes those.

This is awesome. Very clean.

-[Dave chuckles]
-[Brett] Gosh, dang.

What do you think, Mike?

This is the ultimate badass,
bitchin' Camaro.

There you go, man.

[all exclaiming]

[all] Nice!

[Dave] Wait until
you see in here.

[Kevin] Check
this interior out.

Holy [bleep].
Dude, this is dope.

So, we have custom set of
built Dakota Digital gauges.

We did
the Alcantara headliner.

And we just brought
a little bit of Alcantara
into the back rest

and into the door handles.

Perfect.

I don't know about getting
any kids in the back seat.

But the front seat is perfec

-I don't care.
-[both chuckle]

Everything we did inside,

we wanted to tie in
with that really beautiful
modern classic paint.

So, we did everything
in gloss black inside.

[Brett] Y'all knocked this
thing out of the park, man.

-[Dave] Right.
-Holy cow,
this thing's badass.

There's so much badassery

-as far as I'm concerned.
Badassery.
-I like that.

[Dave] That might be the nam
of the car, Badassery.

[all chuckling]

Ultimate badassery
bitchin' Camaro.

-There you go.
-[Mike chuckles]

Trademark that, baby.

[Mike] Badass bitchin' Camar

-[Dave] That's right.
-[Kevin] With no
further ado,

somebody fire this up.

[Dave] Fire it up, Kev.

Hop in there.

[Kevin] You have
the green needles.

-And it's like a new car.
You just hit it.
-[engine starts]

It's awesome. I mean,
that sound is unbelievable.

Got 8,000 RPMs.

[engine revving]

[Kevin] I mean,
it's just a monster.

It's a [bleep] monster.

Gosh dang.

[Mike] Once he revved it up

I mean you can tell that,

you know, that's 8,200 RPM.

I mean, that just, there's not
another Camaro gonna
sound like that one.

-No.
-That is a one of a kind.

-[Dave] How did that sound?
-Badass, man.

-[all chuckling]
-There's only one word for it.

-So mean.
-Badassery.

-Badassery.
-[all chuckling]

-There you go.
-Cool!

-I think that will be
a new t-shirt.
-[all exclaiming]

-[Mike] Dave and Kevin,
I enjoyed working with 'em.
-[Brett] Yup.

I mean, just down to earth.

Just like friends now.

-Yo, I love it.
-Awesome, guys.

I'm so glad you guys love it.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Thank you, thank you.

-Yeah, man. Awesome.
-Well, with that...

Looks like we got quite
a crowd who would like
to check out the car,

-so...
-Hell, yeah.

Stand back, let's have a beer
and enjoy it.

-Oh, we're all for it.
We're down.
-All right.

[Brett] What we brought 'em

to what it is now,
awesome journey.

Dave and Kevin were
really fun to work with.

It was a good time.

We're excited. You guys
are gonna have so much
fun in this car,

-I can't wait for you.
-Oh, yeah.

-[Dave chuckles]
-It will stand out.

[Dave] Absolutely.

These guys were
blown away with
all of the experimental stuff

that we've done on the car.

And of course, the tradition
stuff that we've done

as Kindig It design.

Putting that car
on the ground,

custom-front and rear fascia

the door handles, the color
the smoothness,

the fit and finish
and of course,

this is one of the straighte
black bodies

we have ever done
and it is gorgeous.

Can we borrow the car
for the spring?

-[Dave chuckles]
-Well, I guess,
you're going to.

We should definitely should go
for Street Machine of the Year
next year.

Why not?

It will go around the corner
trust me.

-Oh, yeah.
-[Mike] I'm all for it.
