I do believe in evil.
I've seen it firsthand.
I never thought b.J. Was
gonna be a m*rder*r.
I still can't believe I can't...
Didn't... Realize it.
But I've seen him do
a lot of evil things
throughout my lifetime.
And people need to know
how my cousin really is.
That's a...
A picture I found flipping
through my photo album.
I thought I'd destroyed
every photo I had of him,
but I found this one in there.
I didn't want it
to touch anything,
so that's why it's in a baggie,
wrapped up.
Every other picture
I found of him, I destroyed.
So I'd like to destroy this one
right here
in front of everybody.
Bye-bye, b.J.
That's the last time
that I'll ever have
to see that face again.
Burn in hell.

junior beebe was my cousin,
but we called him b.J.
I didn't have an older brother,
so he was kind of
like my older brother.
And when you have an older
brother, you feel like...
You're invincible
when you're around 'em.
Stop!
B.j., help!
'Cause, you know,
I was just a little guy,
and when I was with him,
I knew nobody was ever gonna
mess with me or hurt me,
and I looked at him
as a protector of mine.
Hey!
Didn't matter
how big somebody was,
he didn't have
any fear of anything.
Leave him alone.
When I would be around b.J.,
I kind of felt like
I couldn't be touched.
Never once did I think
that we'd end up here today.
His way of funny was different
from other people's way
of being funny.
He got a kick out
of destroying things.
- Rad. - Awesome.
- That's awesome!
I remember
riding my bike over there
when I was younger one time,
and they had a bucket of fish.
They'd just come from a pond
from a neighbor's house
down the road...
...and him and his brothers
had some firecrackers.
What are you gonna do
with those fish?
I can still see b.J.
Just pulling the fish out,
you know, with that smile
he has and laughing.
And he would put the fish
on the ground...
...and then step on it and put
the firecracker in its mouth
and then light the fuse.
Then back up
and watch it explode.
Whoa! Awesome!
He'd laugh
after he blew up the fish.
That's what was fun to him.
Looking back, I can remember
just having uneasy feelings
about the things he did.
He definitely had a lot of
pleasure in torturing animals.
I'm kind of an animal-lover,
so it was kind of disturbing,
you know, watching an animal
get its head blown off
while it's alive.
That was awesome.
That was awesome, right, James?
I didn't want to disappoint him,
and I just laughed along with it
because I didn't want
to be considered a sissy.
I wanted to impress him
a lot of time,
and he just thought
it was the funniest thing.
B.j., he liked to be
a practical joker,
but his way of jokes
were different
from real people's ways.
What he would do is he'd take
a cigarette lighter,
and he's hold it upside down
and let the metal
around it get real hot.
And the next thing I know,
he'd come up beside me
and just stuck a hot lighter
on my arm...
...until you jerked
your arm away or whatnot,
and then you realized
that you have a smiley-face
from a lighter burned into you
while he sat there
and laughed about it.
Every time he'd hurt somebody,
he just had this evil laugh.
And, you know,
when I think back,
I just hear that laugh
all the time.
You should have
seen your face.
First time he did it to me,
I just laughed it off.
I didn't want to look
like a p*nsy.
And then after that point,
it was just a game to him,
so you always to watch out
where he's at to make sure
he's not getting ready
to burn you again.
He definitely got a kick
out of seeing fear in my eyes
or anybody else's eyes.
It was just something
that he thrived on.
I think he just got pleasure
out of other people's pain.
He found a place,
and I moved in with him
to help him pay
for the rent.
And one day, I hear
a knock on the door.
So, I opened the door,
and then all of a sudden,
a bunch of cops
came in with g*ns drawn.
On the floor!
You know, and made us get
on the floor and...
You think it's almost
like a movie.
Let's you and I go upstairs
and check it out.
But the cops, I remember
they went right to b.J.'S room.
Hey.
And started tearing
at his ceiling.
And they pulled three bags
of weed out of his ceiling.
He was selling pot
out of our home.
What do you know
about these drugs?
I remember the police
questioning me about everything.
These his drugs?
Everyone in the town of coloma
that knew b.J.
Knew anything
he was doing was no good.
The police knew him
on a first-name basis.
People thought his house
was the police station
'cause the cops
were there so often.
But I don't think he ever
cared about the consequences,
because in his mind,
he was gonna get off of it.
He's been involved with
the police so many times,
he actually had a lawyer
he referred to all the time.
It's gonna be a slap
on the wrist,
just either probation
or whatnot.
I could have told him that he
was crazy for what he was doing,
but it wouldn't have mattered.
He didn't care.
I believe he destroyed the
police station just for payback.
What's this
all about?
And, so, I asked him, "you
burned it down, didn't you?"
B.j. Would always take revenge
on anybody
or anything that ever hurt him
or overstepped his boundaries.
That's just how he was.
We're being told that everyone
has been evacuated safely,
but, again, firefighters
are currently...
I remember hearing about
the coloma township
police station burning down.
There's no word yet on what
may have caused the fire.
What's this
all about?
In the back of my mind,
I kind of wondered and assumed
if b.J. Had anything
to do with it.
And, so, I asked him, "you
burned it down, didn't you?"
You had something to do
with this, didn't you?
Oh, you should have seen it.
It was beautiful.
And he kind of laughed.
And told me, he said,
"yep, I did that."
He hated law enforcement.
'Cause he just had so many
run-ins with them and...
He thought he could get away
with anything.
And... fphht... the whole thing
went up into flames.
Nobody was ever apprehended
for the incident.
I don't know what ever
came out of it.
I'm sure the police
kind of assumed
he had something
to do with it,
but there was just no way for
them to prove what had happened.
But I believe he destroyed the
police station just for payback.
And it was like he was
almost proud of...
It was like an accomplishment
for him
to get away
with these things.
He'd always get the last laugh,
no matter what.
There was another incident.
He had a pet rat, and...
The rat bit him.
And so he boiled a pot of water,
and then he threw
the rat in there... Alive.
And then he continued on
and ate it.
What are you doing?
My rat bit me,
so I bit her back.
I remember him telling me
about sticking a fork in it
and cutting it open
and then eating the meat.
And I was like, "well, what does
a rat even taste like?"
He told me it tastes
like chicken.
There's some left
if you want some.
Well, I knew he wasn't
making it up,
and he had no reason
to lie to me about it.
All I could do at the time
was just shake my head
and tell him
that he's crazy.
He just thought that was
the neatest thing
'cause he got revenge
on the rat for biting him.
She had it coming.
It still blows my mind
that he even ate the rat.
It's... just psychopathic.
His relationships
were never normal.
No matter who he was with,
he definitely had to be
in control
and dominate a relationship.
No, seriously.
You were there.
Tonya was a sweet girl...
You know, real nice.
But he was very controlling
over her.
Babe, go inside
and get me another drink.
Oh, I just sat down.
I don't care. Go inside
and get me another drink.
He'd yell at her a lot.
"Get me this"
or "get me that."
Usually, they were arguing
about petty stuff.
Honey, I'm not
your waitress.
What did you just say?
It could be as simple
as because she wasn't doing
what he wanted her to do.
Don't be selfish!
B.j. Would yell at her,
and she'd just take it.
And she didn't really say
a whole lot back.
Everything I do for you,
and this is how you treat me!
I'd feel sorry for her
that she had to deal
with the things
she had to deal with with him.
She was a very nice,
sweet girl,
and just in a bad situation
with the wrong person.
James?
Your cousin is here.
Now I look back, I realize
there must have been more to it
than what she was
wanting me to believe.
Everything changed for me
once I met Amy.
This is an album of Amy's
senior year in high school.
This is when I met her.
I lived with b.J. At the time.
I went for a ride with a friend.
I got in the car with him,
and there's this girl in there.
I just thought, "my goodness.
This girl is beautiful."
When you see someone
that beautiful,
you can't pass up
that opportunity.
I said, "do you
have a boyfriend."
And she said no, and I said,
"do you want one?"
And she didn't say anything,
she just smiled,
and the next day,
my friend told me, she said,
"hey, Amy wants to know
if she can give you a call."
And we spent every day together
since that time.
I know she was
the kind of person
I wanted to spend the rest
of my life with, and...
We were gonna do good things.
A couple months later, she was
pregnant with our first child.
So, we went to
the courthouse and...
We got married,
and we got our own...
Our first place together.
This was actually the day
we got married.
We didn't have a lot of money,
so we went to the courthouse
and got married, and...
We went to a little restaurant
and enjoyed ourselves.
A very exciting time in my life.
She changed my life.
One of Amy's relatives
had a bad back and everything
and was having a hard time
paying for her prescriptions.
Thank you for bringing
them over.
And b.J. Was well known
for having
prescription pills all the time.
So, Amy reached out to b.J.
For the prescriptions,
and he would come
and bring it to the house.
But I remember being at work
one time,
and I got a call from Amy.
Hello?
James?
And she was telling me
that my cousin was at the house,
and he was acting strange.
I'm sorry, babe.
I know he can be
a bit much sometimes.
She didn't explain
what he was doing,
and I didn't find out
until years later
what he actually said to her.
He was asking
about the money
that she owed
for the prescription pills.
And he looked at her,
and he said,
"hey, let me see your."
That's why she felt
uncomfortable.
Amy, are you sure
everything's okay?
Yeah, it's fine.
And then she kicked him
out of the house,
but at the time,
she didn't want me to know,
because she didn't want to
come in between me and family.
I'll see you
when you get home.
Okay, I love you.
At that time,
I just didn't...
I didn't put two
and two together.
I didn't realize that she was
actually trying to tell me
without telling me.
Maybe I was blind to the fact,
but looking back now,
I see a lot of signs
that Amy did give me.
Like the time where
I got home from work.
Hey, honey.
Hi.
And Amy seemed a little
bothered and upset.
B.j. Was here again.
She was telling me how he was
leaving notes at the house,
but she didn't really
go into detail.
She just said it was because he
was asking about the money
that she owed
for the prescription pills.
If he keeps giving you
a hard time about these pills,
I'll say something.
Looking back now,
I realize he had
an infatuation with my wife,
and he used owing the money
as an excuse to come by
while I wasn't there.
She never showed me
the notes or anything,
and I never asked to see 'em.
And now, looking back,
I wish I would have.
I still search to this day
to see if I can't find
any of them,
but at the time, it didn't seem
like it was a real big issue.
I just wish
she could have told me
and not felt scared about coming
in between me and him.
She was the kind of person,
she didn't like confrontation.
When I woke on January 24th,
I remember the kids
getting up and getting ready,
and I said good-bye to them
as she got them off to the bus.
And she had me a coffee
and everything
and was standing by the door,
and I gave her her three kisses,
like we always do,
and she told me she loved me,
and I told her I loved her.
And she stood at the window,
blowing me a kiss, and...
...that's my last memory.
Not for a second...
In the world did I ever think
I wasn't gonna see her again.
Well, every day,
we have our own routine.
Hello. hey, beautiful.
Hi, sweetie. You having a good day?
Call her on my break time
and just chitchat,
see how each other's
morning's going.
I was thinking we should take
the kids somewhere this weekend.
Aww, that
would be fun.
See how things are going
at home,
and it's just something
we love to do.
All right, well,
I'll see you when you get home.
I love you. I love you, too.
But that specific morning,
I remember calling,
and she didn't answer,
so I didn't think
much of it.
You know, I thought
maybe she was busy...
...throwing in laundry
or doing house chores.
So, I waited a little while,
and I tried calling home again,
and I was starting
to wondering what's going on.
And I still didn't get
an answer.
Called a couple more times,
and still nothing.
And... I thought maybe something
might have happened
where she might have slipped
on our basement stairs
to our laundry room.
And I went and told my boss.
I was like,
"I can't get a hold of my wife.
I'm gonna run home,
and I'm gonna check to make sure
everything's okay," you know?
You know, I figured I'd be back
within 20 or 30 minutes.
Amy?
Honey, are you home?
When I came into the house,
it's like she was still there
because everything
was in place.
Her purse was still there.
TV was on.
And she was nowhere
in the house.
Amy?
Why would someone just up
and leave
and not take
anything with 'em?
Amy?!
So, at that point, I went over
and I talked to my neighbor
and asked her
if anything was going on,
if she'd seen anybody
at the house.
And she was like,
"well, I did see a black truck
there this morning."
I knew at that point
that it was probably
my cousin's black truck.
So, I tried to call him.
B.j., hey.
It's, uh, James.
Yeah, I-I just got home,
and I can't find Amy anywhere.
And I was like,
"hey, my neighbor said
she saw you at my house,
and I was just wondering
what's going on."
And he's like,
"yeah, I stopped over,"
and said nobody was home.
He knocked on the door,
didn't get an answer.
So I didn't think
anything of it.
Okay. Well, if you see her, tell
her I'm looking for her, okay?
Then my kids got... Home.
Kids got dropped off on the bus,
and they're just like,
"well, where's mom?"
And at that point,
that's when I called 911.
Wow, that's the first time
I've heard that
since I made that call.
It's a call you never want
to have to make.
I was just hoping we could get
some kind of help right away,
and they just told me to wait it
out for about 24 hours.
And then if I don't hear
anything, to call them back.
The night of the 24th was...
It was one of the longest
nights of my life.
You know, just the not
knowing where my wife is.
Why she's not there,
why she would have just took off
and not said anything to
anybody and just disappeared.
You can't sleep, you can't eat.
You're just nervous
the whole time.
So, I stayed up the whole night
until 7:00 in the morning,
and she still wasn't there,
and that's when I called again.
At that point,
I was getting really worried.
After 24 hours, you just don't
know what to think anymore.
On the morning of the 25th,
we started organizing
our own searches.
So, a lot of people started
coming to my house,
wanting to help out
and trying to find her.
And, so, they filled our town
with flyers
just trying
to get the word out
and trying to find out something
and getting word spread.
She's beautiful, isn't she?
It's definitely hard to revisit
those memories
and the things that went on
at that time.
You know, you see those things
on milk cartons
and on TV and stuff,
and you never think the one you
love would be a missing poster.
Amy sue henslee went missing
from her home on January 24th.
I had a friend.
He worked for a news station.
I contacted him, and that's when
the news station come out
and actually started
putting it out there.
Hopefully, she's safe,
and I'm gonna keep optimistic
about it
and stay positive.
I'm not ruling out anything,
'cause you never know.
And I just pray
that she's safe.
And I need everybody else
to do the same.
There's a so real feeling,
you know, being on TV
trying to just tell
the world, you know,
that "this is my wife.
Where is she at?"
I wanted to do as many
interviews as possible.
I want to find my wife.
I never heard another word
from b.J.
That Wednesday, we were just
sitting at the kitchen table,
talking about things, and that's
when someone brought up,
"well, how come b.J.
Hasn't been helping
on the searches
or anything?"
I swung by his house
this morning
to drop
some of these off.
And that's when
my dad said,
"well, I dropped off flyers
there this morning,
and all he did was look up
from eating his cereal and said,
'have they found
anything out yet?'
it was just very awkward."
He was acting weird.
He's always
been weird around Amy.
What do you mean?
And then
that's when my other friend
went into detail about
what Amy told him in confidence
about asking
to show her.
Trusting him with his word
not to tell me
what b.J. Told her that day.
And once my friend told me
what he said to her that day,
that phone call I got
from her went through my head.
And him leaving notes
at the house,
it all started coming together,
making sense.
I'm sorry
I never told you, man.
I had an appointment
that Wednesday evening
to go sit down
with the detectives
at the sheriff's office.
They sat me down, and then
they started questioning me.
Did you and your wife
have any arguments
before she went missing?
Why are you
asking me this?
That's when I realized
that I was being interrogated.
What are we
talking about here?
I said, "well, how come nobody's
looking into my cousin?
He's the last person
seen at my house,"
and I started getting upset
at that point.
I'm telling you...
You need to get down to b.J.'S.
I know that
he's involved somehow.
I knew they were doing what
they were supposed to be doing
because I am the spouse,
but do what you got to do
to rule me out
so you can go out there and
find what happened to my wife.
When I got back home
from the interrogation,
I realized that they had
gone through my house
looking for evidence or whatnot.
Which I didn't mind,
as long as they hurry up
and come to the conclusion that
I had nothing to do with it.
I had so many emotions
going through my mind,
still had hope
that she was alive
and that she was gonna just walk
through the door
at any moment
and say, "here I am."
I kind of knew whatever
they were about to tell us,
it wasn't gonna be
good news, and...
It's the worst news...
I ever received in my life.
On that Thursday morning, I got
the phone call from my buddy.
Hello.
And I could tell in his voice
that something wasn't right.
They found blood
on b.J.'S property.
Investigators
from several county agencies
have been conducting
a joint search for Amy henslee.
That search has led them here
to a camper behind this home
where volunteers
have discovered blood.
That blood is now being tested
to determine whether
or not it's human.
I still had hope
that it was just something...
Some other blood.
I was hoping it was
an animal blood
or deer blood or rabbit blood.
I don't remember talking
to the police
until later on that evening.
Well, that's when the advocates
all walked in and...
...they wanted us to go
into a room.
At that point, I knew
it wasn't gonna be good.
And that's when they told us
that they found...
Amy in a shallow grave...
With another girl.
Unfortunately,
the investigation that began
with the disappearance
of Amy henslee
this past Monday evening
culminated this morning
with the discovery of her body.
It's like they're telling you
something, but they're not...
It's just like their lips
were moving, like, "no.
Not my Amy.
She's not dead."
And also the body
of a Tonya howarth.
The other woman they found with
Amy was b.J.'S girlfriend Tonya.
Nobody knew Tonya was missing
until they dug them up.
At this point in time,
it appears that they both died
of multiple g*nsh*t wounds.
There is a person in custody
at this point in time.
That person is identified
as a junior Lee beebe.
I received a call
from the news station,
and they told me that he said he
was having an affair with Amy.
When I found out his story of
having an affair with my wife,
I knew it was
a bunch of baloney.
B.j., he tried to...
Place the blame on Tonya,
you know,
because that's what b.J. Does...
He blames everybody else
and tries to get someone else
to take the blame
for what he did.
Poor little b.J.
Big tough guy.
Guess what.
He's a m*rder*r.
After b.J. Was arrested,
I didn't see him again
until we appeared in court.
I knew it was gonna be the last
time that I might see him,
so the last day of trial,
I put my running shoes on.
I was dressed nice,
but I had my tennies on
because I knew that
could be my last chance.
The plan was to jump that fence
and dropkick him in the head
and then get as many licks in
as possible
till they dragged me
out of the room.
At least get
some kind of revenge,
some kind of satisfaction.
I had it all figured out,
knew how high I needed to jump
to get over
that little gate they had.
But then the other thought
I had in my head was...
I don't want
to jeopardize anything.
I stayed strong
and let justice do its work.
We, the jury, find the defendant
guilty of first-degree m*rder.
At that moment, we had justice.
That's all we wanted...
Was for him to be gone forever.
I'm glad that the jury
seen through the lies
and seen what we all saw.
That way the whole world sees
what a liar he is
and what we've had
to go through.
There's always doubts, but...
Where there's god,
there's a way,
and he came through
for us today.
Everybody was just happy
that the trail was over
and that, finally, we all got
justice for Amy and Tonya.
Living without Amy has been
one of the hardest things
I've had to do in my life.
It's just a shame that my kids
can only see her
in these pictures.
She just...
Had the greatest smile,
you know?
She just had a glow to her.
I just think
of how much I miss her smile.
It's been eight years now.
For the first year,
everything was just memories.
You go through a holiday,
and you got to learn
to enjoy that holiday
without the person you love.
It took me... Five years to take
here clothes out of the closet.
It took me well over a year
to even sleep in our bed again.
I wasn't sure if I'd ever
find love again, you know,
but it's out there.
And I found a great girl
that's supportive of me.
We ended up having
two twin boys together,
and I tell you what...
Them two little boys
look up
to their older brothers,
and they just...
There's just so much love.
And it gives us all something
to be happy about.
We don't know why things happen,
and you got to assume
everything happens for a reason.
Just be thankful
for the memories
and the times
that we did have and...
And hope that she's proud of me
and the kids and...
...we'll just keep on
moving on and...
Keep living our lives and...
Make the best out of it...
Until we meet again.
