Saturn (2024)

Post by bunniefuu »

[ambient music]

[man] The call of the Shepherd

has always meant

a life of pain and death,

a life where the sacrifice

is forgotten.

I could never fix

the problems of the world,

so I chose a new path.

No one knows who I truly am,

but in this new life...

I finally found peace.

[alarm beeping]

[gentle music]

Time to wake up, Master Wayne.

[George groans]

It's Friday.

It's almost the weekend.

[George] Oh, can we have

pancakes, Mom?

Yeah. We can have pancakes.

Chocolate chip?

Fine, chocolate chip pancakes,

lucky duck.

[imitates propellers]

Waah!

[imitates propellers]

Cool.

[grunts]

[Sarah] Pancakes are ready.

[sighs]

[gentle music]

[George] Hi, Dad.

-Hey.

-Hey.

Yes!

[James] Is that big enough

for you?

[sighs]

Can I spend the night

at Kyle's house tonight?

If his parents

say it's all right, sure.

Yes! Dad...

-[James] Hmm?

-Do you think I'll get

my super powers once I turn 10?

Kids are talking

about what they want to be

when they grow up

in school today.

[George] I know what I want!

Super speed, flying.

How about super strength?

Maybe I'll just turn invisible.

I mean, I'm gonna need

a super power to be a superhero.

Do you like my shirt?

"Super George." Yes.

That's awesome. Hold on.

I got something for you.

[George] Hmm.

[imitates jet engine]

[George giggles]

Hold on.

Tell Mommy what that says.

"I'm a superhero." [giggles]

[James] Now it's official.

[Sarah] OK, Super George.

You got to get your bag.

Bus'll be here any minute.

[James] I'm gonna

take a shower.

[Sarah] OK.

See you, buddy.

[imitates expl*si*n]

-Ready?

-Yeah.

Arm to arm And I do 'em!

Super George!

All right.

You have a good day at school.

I love you.

[George] Love you, too.

Get it.

[James sighs]

[Sarah chuckles]

Hey, I have to drop off

a design brief at three,

so can you pick up George

after school?

Sure.

You're looking at my gray hair.

It's an invasion.

How come you don't have

any gray hairs?

I've been up

for four hours plucking them.

-Oh, really?

-Yeah.

[Sarah] You start

working on your grays?

[James] Where are these things?

Where is this?

-[Sarah] They're all over.

-There?

-[Sarah snickers]

-Any under there?

[Sarah] Make them go away.

I'm your old lady.

[giggles]

You're perfect.

[Sarah humming]

What is he doing?

George.

[tapping]

George!

[tapping]

[sighs]

George, what are you doing?

[ominous music]

Babe, have you seen my jacket?

Sarah?

-[door closes]

-Sarah?

George?

What's going on?

What is that?

[music swells]

[James] All right.

Let's get started.

My son George'll be

joining us today.

His school was canceled.

Ours should have been, too.

[James] Would you like

to speak up, Brian?

I said,

"Ours should have been, too."

You decided to come

to my class today

despite everything

that's happening,

so please listen.

OK.

As you all know, there is

a popular theoretical concept

that is featured in at least

one book or movie every year:

wormholes.

A wormhole is a hypothetical

tunnel through space

which could theoretically

provide a traveler a shortcut

to a different part

of the world or universe.

Imagine there was a wormhole

right here in this classroom

and the other end is in Paris

near my favorite bakery,

Rouge Sucre.

[students chuckle]

Have you ever considered

that this wormhole

could not just send you

to Paris,

but to Paris in the past

or even Paris in the future?

Take our good space pilot

Brian here.

[laughter]

Imagine Brian takes

our wormhole entrance in Paris

and loads it onto

his trusty spaceship

and travels at

99.999 percent of lightspeed.

He travels four hours,

checks out Andromeda,

and returns back to Earth.

Paris itself

will be very different.

So, because of Einstein's

theory of special relativity,

some six million years

will have passed.

Now, Brian, he's still

his young, strapping self,

and he doesn't want to live

in a world

without

his theoretical physics class,

so Brian crawls

through the wormhole

and, in so doing,

travels back in time

six million years

to this very classroom.

Congratulations, Brian,

you've invented a time machine.

[applause]

[man on TV] Intelligence

communities across the globe

remain stunned

at the unexpected appearance

of the rogue planet.

Many believe it to be

the infamous Planet X,

a hypothetical celestial body

with a highly elongated orbit.

Once dismissed

as an internet hoax,

the planet's

sudden appearance...

-[cell phone ringing]

-...just over two weeks ago

has baffled scientists

and ignited a flurry

of confusion and debate

about its origin and

unprecedented behavior.

The one thing that scientists

seem to agree on

is that the rogue planet is on

a collision course with Earth,

though the date and time

of impact remain unknown.

For more on

the international response,

-Amy Duncan is in Geneva.

-[cell phone dings]

[Amy on TV] The emergency

session of leading scientists

from all 193 nations of the UN

has stretched...

[Mark on voicemail]

Sarah, it's Mark.

Been a long time,

some crazy sh*t happening.

Look, I gotta see you.

I'll be in town tomorrow.

[clicks]

[unsettling music]

[Mark] Sarah!

-[pounding on door]

-Sarah, open the door.

-Sarah!

-[pounding intensifies]

Sarah!

[Amy on TV]

...the planet's appearance.

An official statement released

earlier today included a plea

for international cooperation

as the planet continues

on course

for catastrophic impact.

[bell rings]

You can just go.

What's that?

[checker] Just go.

[James] Don't you work here?

System is down.

I have cash. What do I owe you?

Nothing.

I'll just

leave this here, then.

Can I have a bag?

Dude, everything

is about to be blown to hell.

-None of this matters.

-[indistinct shouting]

[crashing]

[man] No! That's mine.

[bell rings]

[typing on phone]

You can go now.

[bell rings]

[reporter on radio] The rioting

began at 3:30 this afternoon

but turned destructive

at about six P.M.

when rioters lit

a police cruiser on fire

before making their way

into downtown.

In the south end of the city,

looters again

overrunning police barricades

as unrest continues to grow

in the weeks since

the planet's appearance.

[reporter 2] Now, we just

heard that the governor

has officially

requested support

from the National Guard.

[sighs]

May I help you?

Must be Sarah's new husband.

Can I help you with something?

Yeah. [sniffles]

She around?

Who are you?

[man] What, you don't know

who I am?

Just tell her Mark stopped by.

You're Mark?

You better get

the hell away from here.

[scoffs]

[unzips]

[plastic bag opens]

[pills rattle]

[rattling]

[low rumbling]

[door opens]

[door shuts]

[pills rattle]

[James] Oh, look at your kite.

Look at your kite. Whoo!

Oh, awesome!

[James laughs] Look at it!

I made it go up. Ha!

Hey, whoa!

Look what I did!

Yeah!

[James] We should

head back soon, OK, buddy?

Can we take

the trail back today?

[James] Ah, that's

kind of a long hike.

[George] Let's build

a sand castle!

[James] All right.

I'm gonna go talk

to your mom for a minute.

Be right back.

Hey, you feeling OK?

[Sarah] People are saying

this is the end of the world,

James.

Everybody's freaking out.

What are we supposed to do?

[James] If this thing

were dangerous,

we'd see its effects.

It's not messing

with the tides or our weather.

Our feet are still

on the ground.

Gravity's working fine.

I am serious, James.

Yeah. We can't start panicking.

Let's just enjoy the day before

it starts raining again, OK?

Buddy, what do you got?

Oh!

-Halfway done with the wall.

-[George] Oh, yeah.

[clock ticking]

[heartbeat thumping]

[unsettling music]

[ticking echoing]

[pounding on door]

[pounding continues]

[Mark] Sarah!

[pounding intensifies]

[wood cracks]

[Mark, muffled] b*tch!

[muffled] No. You're hurt--

you're hurting me.

Please don't.

Let me go. No, let go.

I didn't mean to do that.

[thuds]

[sobs]

[heartbeat thumping fades]

[sighs]

[pills rattle]

[water runs]

[gulps]

[pills rattle]

[whispers] sh*t, sh*t.

[pills rattle]

You OK?

[Sarah] Huh?

Yeah.

[James sighs]

[phone line rings]

[phone beeps]

[voicemail] You've reached

Dr. Tracy Weiland,

substance abuse

and mental health counselor.

I'm sorry--

[door opens]

Sorry, everybody.

Just running a little late

this morning.

[door closes]

[gulls squawking]

[ambient music]

[panting]

[panting]

[James] I was broken...

[shouts, groans]

...and in my darkest moment...

there you were.

You saved me.

[whooshing]

[impact thuds]

[birds chirping]

[plates rattling]

I walked into my 201 class

this morning,

and no one was in there.

Whole campus was a ghost town.

I walked by our offices,

not a soul.

George, come on down.

[drawn out] I'm...

ready!

Hey, dinner first,

then we swim.

All right.

Should we pray?

You're right.

Hands.

Thank you for our home...

for our family,

this delicious food,

for keeping us safe, and for--

Sorry.

It's all right.

Amen?

Amen.

[James groans softly]

I'm scared.

Me too.

[gentle music]

-[George] Ready? Ready? Go!

-[James] Yes!

[George] Ready? Go! Ready? Go!

Ready, go.

Try and hit the flags.

Mommy!

[James] We have the pool

to ourselves.

-[shouts]

-Hey!

Go, go, go.

Go swim to Mommy.

[James shouts playfully]

[George grunting]

[Sarah] Did it!

[George laughs]

[squealing]

[laughs]

Where'd he go?

Hey, don't you dare,

James Lewis.

Don't you dare. [shouts]

[George laughs]

[George cheering]

-[George squeals, laughs]

-What is this?!

[all shouting playfully]

[Sarah] Hey, Daddy. [coughs]

[George] Hey. Whoa.

This is the--

Help, George.

[George] Again, again.

[Sarah speaking indistinctly]

[George] Up, up, up, up.

[James] Oh...

[George] Yes! Up, up, up!

[indistinct chattering]

[James] "The dragon tore

at the castle wall.

Fire and ash rained down

as he made his way to the keep.

Terrified, many knights

turned and fled,

but Sir Bartholomew,

the youngest knight

in the realm,

lifted his glowing blade

and raced toward the dragon."

[chuckles]

Good night, sweetheart.

[George] Good night, Mom.

All right. Good night, buddy.

-[George] Hey, Dad...

-Yeah?

Kyle said that

the planet's gonna hit Earth

and we're all gonna die.

Is that true?

[sighs] Look.

We're all safe.

We're all together,

you, me, Mom.

We're gonna be OK...

I promise you.

OK.

[unsettling music]

[muffled impact]

[inhales sharply]

Hey.

-[g*n clicks]

-Whoa, take it easy.

-Stay there.

-[James] OK, OK.

George, buddy,

everything's gonna be OK.

Just stay put.

[Mark] Where is she?

You need to leave now.

I said, where is she?

Just calm down.

-Where is she?!

-[g*n c*ck]

[floorboards creaking]

Mark?

There she is.

What the hell

are you doing, Mark?

Come on, Sarah. Let's go.

I said, let's go.

[chuckles]

It is the end of the world,

and you want to spend

your last few nights

with this piece of sh*t?!

This is your last warning.

Or what?

What are you gonna do?!

[Sarah gasps]

[rumbling]

[crashing]

[exhales sharply]

[Mark groans]

[music intensifies]

[rumbling]

[wheezes]

[rumbling continues]

[gasping]

[Sarah, muffled] James, stop it!

[clear] Stop it, James!

[Mark gasping]

What was that?

Who are you?

[door closes]

[James] Babe--

[door opens, closes]

Oh...

Huh...

[exhales]

[whooshing]

[impact thuds]

Keep your distance, Titan.

We can't hold the planet's

effects back much longer.

Nibiru is growing stronger.

Then find more Shepherds.

The ones I could find

don't have the strength.

They barely survived

the last battle,

but you wouldn't know

about that, huh?

Keep searching.

[Titan] There isn't time.

Earth will be destroyed.

You're the only one

who can stop it.

[James] You know what

you're asking me?

The energy required to destroy

that planet would k*ll me.

I know.

This key will take you

to Nibiru's planet.

Take it and

do what must be done.

I won't do that to my family.

[Titan] What other choice

is there?

You've cared well

for the few you love,

but you cannot deny salvation

for them all.

I fought long enough.

What good have I done?

You want my pity?

This is what you are made for.

Not anymore.

[Titan] So what are you now,

a professor?

Do you pay your taxes,

too, "James"?

You can't have this life.

Yes, I can.

[whooshing]

Stay away.

[whooshing]

[wings fluttering]

[ambient music]

[James grunts]

-Take me back, Titan!

-[echoing]

It's been 10 years.

[explosions in distance]

[alarm blaring]

It was just another mission

like all the others.

Go, go, go, go!

[g*nshots]

This time,

prevent a nuclear incident.

Once again, humanity

nearly succeeded

in destroying itself.

[indistinct radio chatter]

[g*n clicks]

[rumbling]

[men screaming]

[muffled g*nf*re]

[impact thuds]

[rumbling]

[groans]

Ohh!

You barely escaped

with your life.

I took you from here

to the beach.

[whooshing]

[whooshing]

[James] And that's

where I met my wife.

[Titan] Nibiru will not relent.

By destroying Earth,

she believes

she's saving the Shepherds.

She will not stop until

she has destroyed humanity.

You must return now,

become the Shepherd

you once were.

I owe you a great deal...

but I'll give my son

his childhood

and my wife her peace.

-There is no peace here!

-[echoing]

-It's over!

-[echoing]

-Take me back, Titan.

-[echoing]

You're leaving.

No, no, no.

You can't run from this.

This is your fight, Saturn.

Don't call me that.

Take me back now.

[whooshing]

[wings fluttering]

[ambient music]

sh*t.

It's broken.

Feeling nostalgic?

Remembering who he once was.

The Shepherd is still

in there somewhere.

How will it all play out?

Saturn needs to make

this choice on his own.

You think you can convince him?

That's why I came back.

What am I supposed to do?

What you've always done.

Don't give up on him.

He's planning his escape...

with his family.

I know.

It's a strange position

for you to be in.

Yes. It is.

[gentle music]

Cool.

[grinding in distance]

[grinding continues]

[grinder powering down]

[James] Damn it.

What is that?

I'll be back in a bit.

Where's my keys?

James, we need to talk.

[James] I know. I know.

-There.

-[keys jangle]

We'll talk later tonight, OK?

No, James, now.

I have to go to storage.

You OK to watch George?

Why wouldn't I be OK?

I'll be back soon.

James!

[pills rattle]

[uneasy music]

Mom, I'm gonna go ride my bike.

Mom?

[latch opens]

[music continues]

[brake squeaks]

Attack!

[ominous music]

[babbling]

[music continues]

I'm home.

Door was open.

George.

George?

George, where are you, bud?

George?

[music intensifies]

Babe, hey, hey.

[groans]

[James] Wake up.

Sarah, wake up.

Where's George?

I can't find George.

George?

George!

George!

George!

[music intensifies]

George!

George!

Where are you?

[George] Dad?

George!

Hey, buddy. Hey, you OK?

I--I saw the scary man.

-[crying]

-What, what? Who?

[George] The scary man

from last night.

He was on the stairs.

I didn't know where to go.

I'm sorry.

No, no, no, no.

You don't have to be sorry.

You're OK. You're OK.

There's no scary man

here anymore, OK?

You're safe, all right?

Come here. Come here.

Come here. It's OK.

It's OK.

[gentle music]

[Sarah] What happened?

George got lost.

[Sarah] Honey, here.

[George whimpers]

Hey, James. Hey.

[clattering]

[muffled clattering continues]

[pills rattle]

[splashing]

[toilet flushing]

[phone line ringing]

[woman on phone] Hello?

Dr. Weiland?

-[Dr. Weiland] Who is this?

-My name is James Lewis.

You were my wife's therapist

a few years ago,

uh, Sarah Lewis.

She has a history of abuse,

um, trouble with pills.

[Dr. Weiland] OK?

Well, my wife has relapsed,

and I was calling

for some advice.

[Dr. Weiland]

Mr. Lewis, I'd like to spend

these last few days

with my family.

I'm gonna hang up now.

Please, ma'am, I'm just

trying to help my wife.

[Dr. Weiland]

You want my advice?

Let her do what she wants.

If it's pills, then let her

take the damn pills.

[James] No, ma'am, please--

[Dr. Weiland] Don't call again.

-[phone clicks]

-You--

Unbelievable.

[fanfare playing on TV]

[George] So these guys

are all Shepherds?

[James] Yeah. That's Titan,

Mars, me, and Selene.

So can you fly?

No, buddy.

[George] Can you read minds?

Hmm...

Zzz...mm...

You're thinking of...pizza.

-Nope. I'm not.

-Nope? Ah!

I guess not, then.

Can you do that?

Can I punch ray blasts? No.

[George] So you could just,

like, super push?

Is that it?

Yeah. I'm sorry it's not

cool enough for you, buddy.

[both laugh]

I like that, though,

"super push."

I never thought of it that way.

Basically...

I can control

certain types of energy.

And all the Shepherds,

they have different powers.

None of us

are exactly the same.

We've been around

for a really long time.

[George] How old are you?

I stopped counting

quite a while ago, bud.

[George] But your birthday.

Well, it's not

my real birthday,

but it is a special day.

Why?

[James] It was the day

I met your mom.

Oh.

You want to know something?

That day

and the day you were born

were the best days of my life.

Except for maybe

that day that I...

shot lasers out my eyes.

You have laser vision?

No, but that'd be cool,

-wouldn't it?

-[George laughs]

Yeah.

Do you think when I grow up,

I'll become a superhero

like you?

So what can that guy do?

[announcer on TV]

...son in a small rocket ship

and sent it hurtling

in the direction of the Earth

just as Krypton exploded.

After my parents died...

it took me a long time...

to feel safe again...

till you...

But I don't feel safe anymore.

At least with Mark,

I knew he was

a piece of sh*t...

but I don't know who you are.

You know who I am, Sarah.

[Sarah] I thought I did,

but after last night,

what you did to Mark--

What the hell was that?

Clearly, I have

no idea who you are.

I am your husband.

I'm George's dad.

Stop it. God, just stop, James.

Are you really such an as*h*le?

Why don't we talk about this

after the pills have worn off?

[Sarah] Excuse me?

I know you're using again.

I threw them out, by the way.

Don't you judge me.

[James] Judge you?

Do you realize the danger

you put George in?

You can't possibly

be this selfish.

I'm selfish?

You have been hiding this

from me our entire marriage.

No. Don't you pin this on me.

You're a liar!

We have to be strong

for our son right now, OK?

I'm working on a plan.

You're working on a plan.

[chuckling]

To what?

[chuckling continues]

g*dd*mn.

You really have no idea...

what I'm going through,

what I've been through.

You have to trust me.

There is a f*cking planet

about to hit Earth, James!

Every single thing

around us will be gone.

What did you want me to do,

act like everything's fine,

watch cartoons

with you and George?

I'm going to die.

You are going to die.

George--

[sobs]

George is going to die.

Keep your voice down.

[chuckles sadly]

[sobs]

I heard what he called you.

[sniffles]

I don't know what you are,

but you sure as hell

are no hero.

[door closes]

[sighs]

[somber music]

[James] Can we not go back

to the way it was...

our beautiful life together?

I won't abandon you.

I won't abandon us.

I can fix this.

[hammering]

[door creaks, shuts]

Do you need this?

[James] All right.

Are you ready?

Ready for what?

To go in.

[George] Go in where?

You'll see.

Wait a minute.

I'll be right back!

[gentle music]

[object scraping]

[James sighs]

Ready?

[George] Ready.

Hold my hand?

[ratchets turn]

[sighs] Thank God.

[George]

A portal to another world.

[music swells]

[George] Where are we?

We're on another planet

far away.

[George]

If I take my helmet off,

will my face get sucked out?

No, buddy. You'll be fine.

I'll take it off.

What's it called?

[James] You know what?

I never named it.

What do you think

we should call it?

[George] I'll think about it.

All right, buddy.

How did we get here?

Remember what

we talked about in my class?

[George] Yeah,

about wormholes and stuff.

Exactly.

That door is an entrance

to a wormhole.

Pretty cool, huh?

The coolest!

Do you like it here?

Yeah. It's the most

amazing place ever.

All right. Come on.

I want to show you something.

You see that down there?

[George] Yeah.

It's gonna be your new home.

It is?

Yeah. I was thinking

that we could build a house,

a little one

right down there by the river,

you, me, and Mom.

Dad?

Yeah, buddy?

Are you and the other Shepherds

gonna stop the big planet

from hitting Earth?

Titan can teleport it, right?

It's too big for Titan, buddy.

Oh, I know!

You can use your energy powers

to blow it up.

Superheroes always

save the day.

This isn't a comic book, George.

But, Dad...

We should get going.

Head to bed, OK?

OK.

[clattering]

[knife slices]

[grunts, groans]

[George] Mom?

[Sarah] Shh. Sorry.

Go back to sleep.

[George] I'm scared.

[Sarah humming]

[humming continues]

[gentle music]

[James]

How can I let the world fall

and be the reason

so many are lost?

[humming continues]

But if I save them,

what happens to my family?

[humming continues]

Must I not only

sacrifice my life,

but also theirs?

Is there no hope?

Nibiru, why are you doing this?

It's almost time.

You can still stop this.

So can you, James.

I'm not the only one

who's denied the call

of the Shepherds.

What do you want from me?

[Nibiru breathes deeply]

[crackling]

[thrumming]

[whooshing]

You're my brother.

You have your way out.

Go. Be with your family.

Save them while

you have a chance.

[James sniffles]

Nibiru, please--

[Nibiru] The call for us

has always meant one thing.

Death.

I'll be the one to choose

how I live and die.

Do you really think they could

ever shepherd themselves?

They will never choose peace.

If you save them again,

would it matter in the end?

At sunset tonight,

the Favored Planet

will be destroyed.

Take only your family.

Tonight?

I need more time.

There is only

one way to stop me, Saturn.

[exhales heavily]

[somber music]

[whooshing]

We're running out of time.

It's happening tonight.

[man] What happened here?

Are you even listening to me?

[man] I need to know.

[Titan] It doesn't matter.

We have to stop--

It does matter.

The battle

that was fought here,

Titan, what happened?

[Titan] I could see

leading up to it that...

something was different in him.

[low unsteady music]

We fought for the

Favored Planet for millennia.

Saturn was growing weary.

So many years of fighting

against a violence

he never imagined possible.

[g*nf*re]

Brother still k*lling brother,

hate always growing.

He lost hope...

[James groans]

[Titan]

...nearly gave up his life

for a cause

he no longer believed in.

He was almost k*lled.

[g*nsh*t]

[man shouting indistinctly]

[rumbling]

[muffled screams]

James may have survived,

but this was the end of Saturn.

Saturn's door is restored.

He's leaving.

We're out of time.

Trying to move the door

will k*ll you, Titan.

[Titan]

I will not let Earth fall.

I must do something.

[whooshing]

Can I get you some more coffee?

I'm fine.

[James] Don't like your cereal?

You want something else to eat?

[George] No.

[door opens, closes]

Hey, buddy...

you OK?

[George] When do we have to go?

Tonight.

Gonna get the last few things

out of the truck in a bit.

[George] Can I go see Kyle?

I want to say good-bye.

Of course. I'll walk with you.

[object clatters]

Hey...

dropped your pin.

I don't want it anymore.

[pensive music]

[laughter]

[music continues]

[crying]

[sniffles]

[Kyle] Whoo-hoo-hoo!

[George] Yeah! All right!

[music continues]

[sighs]

Hey, George,

will you come here, please?

[George] Yeah.

I want you to do something

for me, OK?

What?

I need you and Kyle to go

and tell as many people

as you can to come down

to the beach before sunset.

Can you do that?

Why?

Because we're taking

them with us through the door.

To the other world?

That's right,

but we got to hurry, though, OK?

OK. Kyle, come on!

We're going to another world!

[knocking]

Come to the beach.

We're going to another world!

[gentle music]

[inaudible dialogue]

[James] Maybe there is

some hope to save a remnant...

[no audible dialogue]

[James] ...and save my family.

[no audible dialogue]

Humanity can start over...

[inaudible dialogue]

[James] ...and so can we.

[inaudible dialogue]

[no audible dialogue]

I could never save everyone...

[no audible dialogue]

...but I can save some.

[water running]

[music continues]

[music fades]

[James] Got it? You got it?

Got it. I think you got it.

Pull!

Pull.

[dark music]

[door opens]

[James] We're home.

Babe.

No. No.

No. No.

Hey, hey, no, no, no.

Sarah, hey, hey, no, no, no.

[blowing]

Oh, God.

Baby, come back. Uh...

[blowing]

Come back, please. Come back.

Come back! Wake up.

-Mom?

-[James] Wake up! Come on.

Sarah! Sarah. Sarah, wake up!

Come on. Hey! No.

[blowing]

Come on, baby.

[blowing]

[Sarah coughing]

[James muttering softly] OK.

George. George.

George, look at me. Look at me.

I need you to get

into the truck,

all right, buddy?

I need you to go

get into the truck.

Yeah. Hey, come here.

Come here.

You're OK. You're OK.

[Sarah gags, coughs]

[James] You're OK.

Come here, baby.

[Sarah] James? [panting]

Hey, we need to go, OK?

We're gonna leave here, OK?

[Sarah] OK.

[James] I'm not letting you go.

[Sarah] Yeah.

[engine running]

[anticipatory music]

[engine revving]

[grunting]

[music intensifies]

[James] No.

Titan!

[grunts]

[rumbling]

[grunts]

[Titan shouts, muffled]

[rumbling]

[groans]

[rumbling]

How could you do this?

[rumbling continues]

[groaning]

[rumbling stops]

[rachets turn]

[James groans]

[groans]

[Titan]

I had to force your hand.

It's over.

I'm sorry, old friend.

If I could,

I would do this for you.

[somber music]

They won't be alone.

Do I not deserve to live?

Is the purpose of life

just to keep on living?

The call was never

about preserving your life.

It was about saving

the lives of others.

Take my hand.

[James] No.

There has to be another way.

[Titan] There isn't.

[Nibiru] Yes, there is.

You have every right to make

the choice for yourself.

Don't listen to her.

We need to go.

You've sacrificed enough,

Saturn.

-You're too late, Nibiru.

-[whooshing]

[Titan grunts, shouts]

[sighs] Thank you, brother.

[panting]

[rumbling, crackling]

[rumbling stops]

Take only your family.

Let me take these few.

I'll be responsible for them.

Don't make me undo

what I've done.

I will not have humanity's

corruption spread.

This is your only option.

[truck door opens]

[somber music]

[Sarah whispers]

What is happening?

We're going to our new home.

[ratchets turn]

I promised you

we'd always be together.

We're starting a colony, Mom.

Everyone's coming with us.

[James] I'm sorry, buddy.

It's just us.

[George] What?

But what about them?

I'm sorry, George. I tried.

[George] But, Dad,

we have to save them, too.

[James] We don't have a choice.

The world is going

to be destroyed.

If we don't leave now,

we'll be destroyed, too.

Heroes don't

just leave people behind.

I'm not a hero.

I won't go!

George.

-Come on. George--

-I won't.

Hey!

What the hell is going on?

I'm sorry everyone. I tried.

No.

No. I'm just not

waiting here to die.

[rumbling]

No!

[ominous music]

[James grunts]

[Sarah] James.

No. Hey, James! Hey!

Hey, James!

[sobs]

No. Hey, James!

What's going on?

Get out of my way.

[man] Don't you recognize me?

Give me the key.

A wormhole not just

through space, but time.

I won't ask you again!

You don't bring

your family here.

What'd you say?

You sacrifice

yourself to save Earth.

No.

This will bring you

to Nibiru's planet

so you can destroy it.

I won't do it.

I will raise my son here.

My wife and I will be together.

I'm sorry.

That's not what happens.

How could you know this?

[man] She's OK, you know.

She's the one

who asked me to come.

After you leave,

she finds help.

She becomes Mom again.

I don't understand.

[gentle music]

Hi, Dad.

George.

But how?

You came from the future?

[adult George] Just like

you taught in your class.

Time machine.

[George] Yeah. You were right--

special relativity, Brian,

and the bakery.

It turns out--

[music swells]

Look at you.

You're a man.

I've been looking forward

to showing you this

for a long time.

[James] Is this--

[George] My son...

James,

named after his grandpa.

How did you do it, Dad?

How'd you have the courage

to sacrifice yourself?

But I haven't,

and I honestly

don't know if I can.

I know you wanted

to stay with us,

and I know you wanted

a normal life.

I always wished you could

have seen the significance

of your choice...

what you did...

what you will do.

It mattered, Dad.

It mattered a great deal.

I need your help.

I need your help to save Earth.

[James] Back to the beach?

No. We're going to your past.

Another door

will take us there.

Once that's finished,

then you'll return here,

and you can go back through

the door to the beach.

It's time to go.

[alarm blares]

[James] Wait.

Why here?

This is where

our story begins, Dad.

It's where you chose

a new path.

What do we have to do?

I don't know exactly.

I know we just

need to help you.

[distant g*nf*re]

Dad.

George. George. George, wait!

[g*nf*re]

[g*nsh*t]

[g*nshots]

George.

[men shouting indistinctly]

[distant explosions

and g*nf*re]

-George?

-[g*n c*ck]

[g*nshots]

[groans]

[rumbling]

[man screams]

[gasps]

[groans]

[grunts]

[gasps]

[heartbeat thumping]

Titan, get him out of here!

[g*nsh*t]

[rumbling]

[man screams]

[whooshing]

[pensive music]

[rachets turn]

[George] Daddy.

James, what happened?

[George] Where'd you go?

We have to go.

[James] No, baby.

What? What do you mean?

No. We need to go now.

You and George

will be safe here,

so will everyone else.

And you.

You'll be here, too.

You'll be with us.

I wish I could.

Saturn, no!

[low ominous music]

[whooshing]

[rumbling]

[whooshing]

I thought for a long time

I could control things...

the outcome of wars...

cutting off disease...

but I could never fix it.

I started to think that

what I did was meaningless...

so I stopped trying.

I hid away and let the Earth

do what it wanted...

but I realize now that even

if I don't see the victory,

it doesn't mean

there isn't any.

It has always been about

making the choice to fight.

[gentle music]

Thank you for never

giving up on me, buddy.

You're my hero.

You can't leave me.

You have every right

to hate this world

for what it's done to you...

but this is not the end

of your story.

They don't see it now,

but you're so much more

than sum of your past.

Not without you.

I can't do it without you.

Yes, without me.

I believe in you.

[music continues]

[somber music]

[ratchets turning]

Living our life together

was the greatest thing

that ever happened to me.

[both crying]

[music continues]

[rumbling]

[grand, melancholic music]

[George wailing]

[whimpering]

[gentle music]

[Sarah]

People will never know...

what he did...

what he gave up.

They just think

it was a close call.

Some of the greatest saints

are forgotten.

Most are never even known,

not just left out

of the textbooks or speeches.

Knowledge of what they did

died with them.

While humanity might never

know about his sacrifice,

I can assure you, the stars do.

His choice was not

a shout in the dark, Sarah.

It was a wave,

and it will grow

and move and continue on.

[gentle music]

[hammering]

Are you his boy?

Who are you?

My name is Selene.

Are you Saturn's son?

Yes.

Your father was very brave.

I know.

We mourned his death.

Did you know him?

[Selene] Only briefly,

in a w*r long ago.

We would have been overthrown

had he not come to our aid.

[George] Are you a Shepherd?

Yes.

I am here to help the Shepherd

of the Favored Planet.

I thought Earth

didn't have a Shepherd.

[Selene] This is true.

One is yet to be named.

[George] What do you mean?

One is to be chosen.

Who is it?

Who is to be chosen?

[gentle music]

Did you know it was her?

No.

[g*nsh*t]

[impact thuds]

Titan, get him out of here!

[rumbling]

[man screams]

[whooshing]

[music continues]

[James] Sarah.

No, no.

I knew I'd see you again.

[James] No.

[James sobs]

[James sniffles]

No.

[sniffles]

No.

[grunts]

[music continues]

[crying]

[James sobs]

[adult George] My dad was

afraid to leave us...

to leave her...

but it was her courage and

sacrifice that gave him hope.

All this time,

I thought it was just my dad

who saved the world,

but it was my mom, too.

[Titan]

They were good Shepherds.

[knocking on door]

[Titan] What will you do now?

Go back home to my time.

You have big shoes

to fill, George.

Sarah Lewis.

Yes.

[Selene] My name is Selene.

You have been chosen.

Chosen.

For what?

[gentle music]

[Sarah] What does it mean

to be free from my past,

my pain?

How could I do what he did?

I have no powers.

I'm just...me...

but even in the midst

of my struggle, my addiction,

I am still called...

to be a Shepherd,

to help others.

Even now, I am called...

and even now,

I choose to answer.

[music fades]

[gentle music]

[music fades]
