[instrumental music]

Oh, smells good, doesn't it?

Honey, you don't have to go back to the ranch.

I want to go back.

Olivia, I know you're very angry with me.

How many fathers am I going to have

before you get through?

That's a terrible thing to say.

Everyone else is doing and saying

terrible things. Why shouldn't I?

You're acting as though everything

that's happening between Gary and me is my fault.

Isn't it?

Honey, whenever there are problems

between two people, it's never all one person's fault.

Lilimae said you tried to cheat Gary.

Lilimae doesn't know anything about anything.

-Well, didn't you? -No.

Then why did Lilimae say it?

Let me try to explain something to you, alright?

Listen to this, because it's important.

If a man were conducting his business the way

I've been conducting mine, he'd be admired

for his aggressiveness, but if a woman does it...

[scoffs] she's considered a shrew.

I don't understand that.

[Abby] I don't either, but it's so.

But I've never let it hold me back,

and I really hope when the time comes

you won't let it hold you back either,

because a career is just as important for a woman

as it is for a man.

I won't hurt people to have a career.

Look, I may have pushed a little too hard,

but I didn't hurt anyone.

And eventually, Gary will see that everything I did,

I did for us, for you and Brian--

Brian and I didn't ask for anything,

so don't lay it off on us.

Oh!

Honey, you're angry because you think

your family's falling apart.

But it's not.

Gary is human.

He's going to miss us.

He's going to need us. We're his family.

Don't worry.

He'll come around.

[instrumental music]

Ahh!

[exhales]

What are you thinking?

[laughs]

I wasn't exactly thinking.

I don't want to know what goes on in your mind.

Does it matter?

I just want to know you better.

Don't be so greedy.

Let's get back to the bunkhouse.

Why?

I thought you didn't want me to spend the night

because of the kids.

It's not even morning yet.

And you call yourself a rancher.

It's not exactly the crack of dawn.

[grunts]

Stay.

You hired me to do a job, remember?

[Gary] Stay?

I can't.

The other hands have been at it for about two hours.

Now, what are they going to think?

[chuckles] I don't pay them to think. I pay them to work.

And that's what you pay me to do.

[Gary] Ah...

Such dedication.

Mm, yes. More than you realize.

-Hm. -Hm.

I don't believe it.

You're back to work one day,

and already the rumors are flying.

Rumors, huh?

Yeah.

Word is that the governor gave you four tickets

to the ball game Saturday night?

Correct.

And word is that that's

a nationally televised game?

Correct.

Word is you're taking me as your guest?

Wrong. Barbara, I'll get the rest.

Thank you very much.

I promised Karen and the kids, the boys.

Well, we wouldn't want any more broken promises.

Guy with my connections ought to be able to get

a couple of seats to a ball game.

So, how's the governor?

Great. He says hello.

He's a wonderful man.

I'm glad he was able to talk you into coming back on board.

Mm-hmm.

So, what's on the agenda?

Do you want to know what I'm working on?

Well, I wouldn't want to pry.

No secrets.

I'm working on staying out of trouble

and keeping everyone happy.

That's great.

Next thing I know, you'll be running for office.

Yeah, you never can tell now that I know the governor.

Yeah, well, the governor's a real plus.

Well, if I don't see you before, I see you at the game.

[intense music]

I think we're on the right track, pal.

My appointment secretary told me you gave him a hard time.

Appointment secretary.

So that's what you call him.

[Abby] Look, I was in the middle of

some very important business--

This is business, Mrs. Ewing.

The only business you should be concerned with at the moment.

We can't afford to lose this project over a marital spat.

I know that.

Your husband's assets are still frozen.

I know that, too. It's just a matter of time.

Time is money, Mrs. Ewing.

Since we last met, it's cost us 196,000 in interest.

And the meter's still running.

Can't afford to let that run much longer.

I've got just as much at stake here as you do.

Probably more.

So, I'm not gonna let Lotus Point slip through my fingers.

Mr. St. Claire, you don't...

You don't know me very well, but...

I always get what I want.

I can get those assets unfrozen if I mean to,

and believe me, I mean to.

When?

You said these things before.

Mrs. Ewing, I think you're underestimating our--

No, you're underestimating me.

I'll get those assets unfrozen,

and Lotus Point will go forward.

Just trust me.

[door closes]

-Well, you're in a good mood. -Oh, God.

What are you feeling so good about, huh?

Anything you want to tell me?

What are you doing here?

Baby, I'm your husband. I'm here to visit you.

Don't. Stop.

Ooh, my, my, my.

Aren't we the proud princess?

Turning up your nose at hamburger

once you get to taste the steak. Alright.

I don't want you to come here anymore.

What's the matter, are you afraid your boyfriend

will see me? Don't worry about it.

I know how to stay out of sight.

It's not it, Ray. Things are different now.

What is it, sweetheart?

You starting to fall for the guy?

It's alright.

That just means you'll do a better job.

Ray, would you just please go away?

He give you anything yet, sweetheart?

No, he hasn't given me anything.

Anything you can share?

-You sure about that? -Yes, I'm sure.

Look, would you please just leave me alone?

Baby, you're not holding back on anything now, are you?

No, I'm not.

You're not starting to believe

the con, are you?

Or have you forgotten who and what you really are?

Well, let me refresh your little memory for you.

-Okay, you just do this. -Alright.

You're nothing but a two-bit wh*re

trying to take some guy for all he's worth.

I know you.

I know where you come from.

I know who you are and who you're not.

Just because some rich cowboy likes your cute little fanny

doesn't mean you're anything but the little tr*mp

you've been all along.

Now, you're here to do a job,

and you're doing a good one.

But just don't forget who put you here

and who can take you out just as fast

than you could k*ll a man dead.

[crying]

-Yo. -Hey.

-How about I give you a hand? -Thanks.

Are you still gonna store some of this stuff at the garage?

Well, if you have room still,

I got a couple cartons I can put in there.

-No problem. No problem. -Thanks.

You know, I really envy you.

Going down there where the action is.

Doing a job that has to be done, you know?

Right there on the front line.

-You can taste the danger. -Mm-hmm.

How about you? You went back on the crime commission?

I mean, you got your own little w*r zone here.

I'm gonna play a little safer this time.

No Wolfbridge.

I promised Karen. You know, it's just too dangerous.

Too many brick walls.

Well, that's your cover story, right?

I mean, that's what you want people to think,

but you're gonna go after him, aren't you?

Not me.

There's just too much at stake. It's not worth the risk.

You'll see when that kid gets here.

It's not worth getting your brains blown out for what?

To prove a point?

Wise guy.

Want a beer?

Yeah, thanks.

Is Val alright about you leaving?

Yeah. Well, I mean, neither one of us

is too crazy about the idea.

Especially since...

What?

Especially since Gary Ewing is getting divorced.

I mean, it seems like kind of a funny time for me to be going--

Oh, you don't trust her. I get it.

Well, don't worry about it. I'll come out here.

I'll keep her happy.

No, it was the other night when Gary was

over at Val's to pick up Olivia.

When he left,

she had a look on her face

that made me think.

What?

Nothing.

Oh.

Did you ask her about it?

No, it didn't seem like the right thing to do.

[Mack] If it's bugging you, why don't you ask her about it?

Oh, that's good. That's a good idea.

I just say, "Val, by the way, are you still in love

with your ex-husband?"

I mean, what kind of a question is that?

An honest one.

That's a little too honest for me.

No such thing. Come on.

If it's bugging you, ask her about it.

You're going out there in the boondock someplace,

and all you're going to be doing is thinking about it.

Ask her.

You're probably right.

You got some room out there in that Jeep of yours?

Maybe we can put some of these carton there.

Plenty of room. Ben?

Yeah?

Uh, I don't know how to say this.

Will you write to me?

[laughing]

I'm going to miss you, you creep.

Just keep your back covered, huh?

[laughing]

So, the long and the short of it is

that 5% of the profits are still available to you.

If you can get Gary to release his assets.

-What, are you kidding? -No, I don't kid.

Gary fired me, remember?

I'm not exactly the person to convince him to do anything.

[Abby] You did it once.

Look, the situation is a little bit different.

The situation is different now because you panicked.

And now that you've made yourself feel better about that,

I want you to put all that behind us.

You do not understand.

I understand that 5% of Lotus Point is going

to keep you in furs and fast company

for the rest of your life, which is exactly

what you'd like.

I understand Gary, too.

He's been known to change his mind, you know.

[doorbell ringing]

[instrumental music]

Mrs. Abigail Cunningham Ewing?

Yes.

At the request of the court on Mr. Ewing's behalf,

I'm serving you the summons. Have a nice day.

What is it?

[sighs]

He filed for divorce.

[instrumental music]

What makes you think she was so scared?

Are you kidding?

After all that's going on between her and me,

believe me, she would not ask me to go to Gary

unless something was very, very wrong, you know?

Here you are.

You know, uh, you don't seem very surprised by all this.

Since when has Abby Ewing been reluctant to ask for a favor?

Well, it's different this time.

Hah! Why is it so different?

Because Abby doesn't ask if she already knows the answer.

She knows that Gary doesn't trust me any more than her.

She knew before I walked in the door I couldn't help her,

and yet she just keeps persisting as if...

as if by some sheer force of will

she's gonna make things change.

The woman is obviously in over her head.

God, who would have ever thought it?

You really knocked me out.

Yeah.

Why I detect a note of sympathy here?

Well, I don't know, maybe a little.

But just, just a little.

Don't ever tell her.

[instrumental music]

You keep them all on the blue food until Monday,

then you switch them all over to the red food.

Monday. Red, yeah.

Does it really make any difference?

-Yes. -It does?

Remember, the red food has more nitrogen.

Oh, God. Okay.

This is the end of the blossoming season, you know.

I mean, by changing the food,

you can pretty much predict the bud settings and the bloom.

Thanks.

Are you sure you want to do all this?

It'd be just as easy to have the gardener do it.

Well, sure he could, but then I wouldn't have any reason

to come out here while you're away.

Be a lot easier.

-Well, don't worry about me. -I'm not.

I was worried about the plants.

Oh, thanks a lot.

Thank you very much.

[instrumental music]

Oh, Ben, I'm going to miss you so much.

What's the matter?

That's a pretty heavy scene the other night.

What do you mean, what scene?

Between Abby and Gary.

Yeah, it was.

Why do you bring it up?

Nothing.

It's just a shame that Olivia

has to be caught in the middle.

[instrumental music]

Are you sure you want to take care of all of this?

Sure I do.

So, how long do you have to go to these group sessions?

Well, the program runs a year.

What's it like?

Oh, just like this. People sitting around talking.

-What do you talk about? -Everything.

What did you talk about today?

Sex.

[Mack chuckles]

Did my name happen to come up?

You know, me, Mack?

Not in so many words.

So, you sit around,

and talk with a bunch of strangers about sex.

Well, they're not really strangers.

I mean, um, after a while, they're like family.

Well, we're family, and we don't talk about sex.

Um, what would you like to know?

Can I get back to you on that?

[all laughing]

Mack, how does it feel getting back to work?

Hey, I like this a whole lot better

when we're talking about sex.

Don't start.

-Wait a minute. -Save it.

Is it, um, tough, you know, getting started again?

No, nothing to it. Right back in the groove.

Who are you going after this time, Mack?

It's not who, it's what.

I'm going to take this commission

the whole other direction, making a 180.

I'm going to look into the court system

and see how I can make them run more effectively.

So when the bad guys get in there, you know,

they won't find it so easy to get out.

[piano music]

[laughing]

-Wait. Wait. -It's okay.

I played it all the way through twice.

Twice, huh?

Yeah, before you came in.

Well, it's always tougher in front of an audience.

[piano music]

What difference does it make anyway?

Give it time, you'll get it.

It's all been a waste of time.

As soon as I move out, I won't be playing the piano anymore.

So what difference does it make?

Look, no matter what happens...

It's already happened!

You'll always be welcome here.

-That's what you say now. -I mean it.

I won't be living here.

Nothing will be the same.

Neither one of us wanted this to happen.

She's so sure you'll get back together.

And you're so sure you won't.

Well, it looks that way, yeah.

There's some way you'll change your mind, isn't there?

There's nothing wrong with hoping you'll take her back.

No, there's nothing wrong with that.

Do you want to hear me play?

[chuckles] You bet I do.

Do you mind?

What are you doing here?

I was just thinking about you.

What a coincidence.

Join me?

No.

Want to tell me what's going on?

I know you're in trouble.

How do you know that?

Never mind. Don't tell me.

Laura's always had a big mouth.

But I suppose you know that firsthand by now.

Listen, Abby,

why don't we just try and leave Laura out of this, huh?

Look, you know, the last thing in the world

I need right now is your sympathy.

I hope you don't think for a moment

that I came all the way over here out of sympathy.

I think if you could relax your stubborn pride for a minute,

you'd see that I'm trying to help you.

I can get out of this thing by myself.

Get out of what?

The mess you got me into with Wolfbridge.

Oh, that mess.

So, what's happening?

Fine, you don't want to tell me,

that's fine.

But when I walk out that door,

I don't want you thinking for a second

that you can follow me later and ask for help.

[pensive music]

Wolfbridge is making it impossible for me

to hold on to Lotus Point.

[sighing]

Gary's tied up all the Apolune money,

and the project's just dead in its tracks.

What do you need?

Time.

I'll see what I can do.

Greg?

Why are you doing this?

Because I'd like to.

I suppose you heard that, uh, Gary filed for divorce.

The guy's obviously got no taste.

What were you thinking about?

Uh...

About a night very much like this one long, long ago.

How much like this one?

There wasn't a woman in my bed, if that's what you're asking.

At least not a pregnant one, anyway, right?

Mm...

[chuckles]

It was the night before my very first

overseas assignment ever.

Mm-hmm.

I had really been fighting to get it,

I really wanted it

and when I finally did, it meant everything to me.

Mm-hmm.

Called a couple of buddies of mine told them about it

and they came over to help me celebrate.

[chuckles]

So, we talked and we drank

into the wee hours.

When they finally left, I finally realized

I hadn't packed yet.

By the time I finally got packed and was ready

to go to bed, I was a little too keyed up to sleep.

I thought I'd go ahead and lie down, you know.

Flight was in a couple of hours.

I'd have couple of hours.

Then I thought, well, I'll just rest my eyes.

[laughs]

Okay, what happened?

I fell asleep. I missed my flight.

I got fired from my first assignment

before I got started.

Any chance that you could oversleep this time?

No.

[Gary sighs] I don't believe I'm letting you do this.

It's going to look great. You just have to trust me.

Right. Mm-hmm.

I never noticed that hole in your ear before.

Uh...

-That's, um. -What?

-Yeah, uh, you know. -It's a pierced ear?

Yes.

The '60s, you know.

-The dark ages. -Yeah, before you were born.

-Mm-hmm. -Hmm.

You ever ask yourself, what if?

-All the time. -Yeah?

Yeah.

What if, uh, what if we'd met some other way?

You know, like, what if we were at

the same party?

Think you would have noticed me?

-In a second. -Yeah?

Yeah.

Think you would have asked me out?

-Am I single or married? -Just answer the question.

What difference does it make?

[Gary] You're here now, aren't you?

Come here.

[instrumental music]

[instrumental music]

[instrumental music]

[knocking on door]

Ben?

[knocking on door]

Val?

Are you okay?

Yeah, I'm fine.

I took a chance.

I thought I might catch Ben before he left.

Well, he had a very early flight.

Well, I hate goodbyes anyway.

Yeah.

Come on, Karen, I'm fine. I'm...

I'm...

I'm a mess.

Yeah, you are.

Hey, you know what?

Ben's gonna be fine.

I know that.

I know that he is.

You know, for weeks, I knew that he was gonna have

to take this assignment, and I...

I prepared myself for it, and I...

promised myself that I wouldn't let it get to me.

And then the minute he walked out that door,

I started to crumble.

Yeah.

Hey, honey.

You're only human.

You've got feelings. Don't...

Don't be hard on yourself

because you feel sad over a very sad situation.

No.

You know, all I've been thinking about

for the last two hours since he left is...

All the things that I wanted to tell him.

Did you tell him you love him?

Yeah.

Over and over again.

Then you didn't need to tell him anything else.

Oh.

Hi.

Uh, you want to take a ride?

I'll get Billy to saddle up Revolver for you.

You've ruined everything here.

What?

Gary doesn't love you.

What are you talking about?

I went in to talk to Gary last night

but you were with him.

Gary cares for you so much.

It's you.

You're the reason Gary wants a divorce.

No, I'm not the reason.

I hate you!

Oh, Olivia.

I know how you're feeling now.

And I don't blame you for feeling the way you do about me.

But you've got to understand something.

Whatever there is between me and Gary

has nothing to do with you or Brian

or what's happened between Gary and your mom.

I know what you want. And you're not going to get it.

Gary's never going to marry you. Never!

I'll get right to the point.

Well, I'd appreciate that.

-I need your help. -I'm not feeling very sure.

I've got one shot left at nailing Wolfbridge,

and you're it.

I'm sorry, but this all sounds vaguely familiar, doesn't it?

I can't help you with anything I don't know about.

I'm not after you. I'm after Wolfbridge.

If you cooperate with me,

I'll see you granted immunity from all charges.

Even if I had had dealings with Wolfbridge,

which I haven't, why would I want to help you?

If I'm your last hope and I won't cooperate,

you don't even have an investigation, do you?

So, what exactly are you offering me?

A way back to Gary.

[scoffs] Really?

Now you're a marriage counselor as well as an attorney.

Come on, if Gary sees you helping me try and undo

the damage you've done, he's going to change

his feelings toward you.

How do you know what his feelings toward me are?

Since you can't help me.

What exactly do you need from me?

I need your file.

And everything you have on Lotus Point.

And a deposition detailing all your meetings

with Mark St. Claire and any of the Wolfbridge members.

I'll have to think about that.

I'll call you.

You do that.

I don't know when he'll be back.

Well, would you give him something for me?

Yeah, sure.

[Laura] I was cleaning out my records and I found this.

I must have misfiled it. It's part of his paperwork.

Yeah, I'll tell him.

Laura, can I talk to you for a second?

Yeah, what about?

Well, Gary.

You've known him a long time and you seem

to really understand him.

Yeah, a little.

You think you could help me?

-Understand him? -Yeah.

You're in love with Gary?

Yeah.

Mm-hmm.

For as long as I've known Gary, he has never been alone.

You know, he went from Val to Abby without skipping a beat.

You think he's doing the same thing with me?

I don't know. I...

I think he's trying to drown his troubles

in the next available woman.

I'm sorry.

You asked me to tell you what I thought.

Gary's a binger, you know?

If it isn't booze, it's fast cars

or money or sex.

You sure you want to hear this?

You think he's still in love with Abby?

Why are you asking me that?

To see if you have a chance?

Yeah.

Well, with Abby, it's, or it was excitement.

And with Valene, she made him feel secure.

Where do you think you fit in?

Maybe I can give him both.

Maybe you can.

[door closes]

[Lilimae] Valene?

Yes, mama?

You won't believe the roses I took from the garden.

Do you remember when I planted those rose bushes?

Six weeks ago.

I mean, it's only been six weeks, and look.

[laughing]

-They're beautiful, mama. -Mmm.

Oh, sugar.

I'm gonna miss Ben, too, but he'll be home

before you know it.

Now, in the meantime,

Dr. Kellen said you can't afford--

I just came from Dr. Kellen, mom.

Well...

There's nothing wrong, is there?

I mean, there's nothing wrong with you or the baby.

-No. -No.

Well, what is it?

It's not baby, mama.

Huh?

Mama, stop that and look at me.

It's babies.

I'm expecting twins.

Twins.

Twins.

Oh, my Lord!

Well, you know twins run in the family.

-Well, how will I know that? -Your great-aunt Ida had twins.

Oh, just wait until Ben calls.

Oh, I wish I could be there...

to see his face when you tell him the good news.

Oh, darling, oh!

Mr. Sumner's suite.

Who may I say is calling?

I'll see if he's in, Mrs. Ewing.

Just a minute.

I'm listening.

Mack came to see me.

I take it, it wasn't a social visit?

He wants me to help him expose the Wolfbridge Group

and anyone connected with them.

Union leaders, politicians.

I'd rather not.

Too many people stand to get hurt,

but if St. Claire can't be convinced

that pressing me is counterproductive to all of us,

then I don't know what other choice I have.

Listen, I'll speak to him soon.

I'm sure he'll become more flexible.

Then I don't have any reason to talk to Mack.

None at all.

[inhales deeply]

Take it.

Oh, come on, Cat. What's gotten into you?

It's $5000. It's everything I've saved.

Now just take it and go.

You know, I drive all the way out here

because my baby says she needs to see me.

-It's over, Ray. -And this is what I get?

We are through.

Look, I'm not going to steal for you.

Not from Gary, not from anyone.

Just take the money and go.

Baby, you are obviously upset.

So why don't we just talk about it?

Just talk it through like we always have.

There's nothing to talk about.

I don't want to talk to you.

Look, I want you to just get out of here, alright?

If you don't, I'm going to go to the police

and I'm going to tell them it was you

who k*lled that man, not me.

-Alright, alright. -You know I can make it stick.

Alright, okay. Just take it easy. You win.

-Take it easy, will you? -Just go, alright?

Just settle down. I'm leaving.

[screaming]

Ray.

It's a big mistake to leave you out here on your own

for so long. Excuse me.

You've just got a little bit too c*ck

for your own good, sweetheart.

Let go.

Oh!

What am I going to have to do

to bring you back in the line, huh?

Oh!

What the hell's going on?

-Oh! -Ah!

[intense music]

[horse neighing]

[grunting]

[groaning]

[crashing]

[grunting]

Stop it.

Stop.

[groaning]

[Gary] Get out and don't even think about coming back.

You'll pay for this!

You'll pay for this!

[coughing]

[instrumental music]

I'll look them over.

You sure you have enough time?

Come on, give me the stuff.

Makes interesting reading.

Even though they're ill*gal aliens,

the laws of this state protect them

against that kind of abuse.

[intercom buzzing]

Hi.

Sure.

Abby, thanks for calling.

You can't or you won't?

Abby, reconsider.

It is possible.

Yeah. I'm sorry, too.

Problem?

Does it look like a problem?

No, no problem.

Well, take your time with this stuff.

When you get finished,

I want you to let me know what we can do

to put a stop to it. Okay?

Yeah.

See you later.

[instrumental music]

I called my mother.

Yeah, I know.

I want to stay with her.

I'll miss you.

You said there was a chance,

but it was all a lie.

Olivia...

[Olivia] Don't say anything.

You don't care about me.

You're too busy caring about

some stranger.

Well, I hate her. And I hate you.

And I hope I never have to see you again.

You're being intractable.

And it's not a posture you want to assume at this time.

The Wolfbridge Group has been more than patient.

Our position has been made perfectly clear to her.

Either she sees that those assets

are unfrozen immediately,

or I'll find myself in a position

to recommend harsher measures.

MacKenzie has reached a dead end

as a direct result of Mrs. Ewing's silence.

You're making an enemy where you don't need to.

It was wise of her to stay away from MacKenzie.

I don't consider that a favor.

We'd have taken care of MacKenzie and Mrs. Ewing

if her decision had been anything different.

I'm asking you to get off her back.

Okay. Now I'm on yours.

It's your problem now.

This is not my problem.

You introduced Mrs. Ewing to the group.

I'm making it your problem.

Now, it's obvious she can't take care of it herself.

You'll have to.

Go to Gary Ewing. Talk to him.

Explain the situation.

What kind of trouble his wife is getting herself into.

Convince him of the urgency

of the situation.

You know what I mean.

Come on, Mack. Who do you think you're fooling?

Believe me, Wolfbridge thinks I'm a broken man.

He'll be more than broken. Look what they did to you.

I'm doing things differently this time.

I've lied to my wife and my friends.

You think it's been easy?

I went to see Abby Ewing.

I played desperate, like she was my last chance

at nailing Wolfbridge. Well, she bought it.

She turned me down and I'll bet you dollars to donuts

that the Wolfbridge Group knows about it already.

You're lucky they haven't k*lled you yet.

They'd get you. I didn't think you cared, pal.

My cover was blown.

I promised you protection, and I delivered.

A new identity, a nice cushy job down there in Paradise.

Paradise, huh?

I'm risking all that to be back here.

-Why did you come back? -I don't know.

I didn't put a g*n to your head.

Maybe I'm trying to talk you out of going after them again.

Listen to you. You sound like my wife.

Come on.

When is your flight back?

What, to Paradise?

Yeah, Paradise.

You got me for three hours. That's it.

Let's get started.

From the beginning.

You're suicidal. You know that?

Come on. Union operations.

-Again? -Again.

[instrumental music]

[groans]

[intense music]

[grunts]

You're kidding.

You're not kidding.

Oh, I don't believe it.

You don't believe it.

I can't believe it either.

Isn't it wonderful?

[Karen] Oh, it is wonderful.

It's more than wonderful. It's fantastic.

Have you told Ben? Have you gotten through--

[Val] No, I mean, I just found out. You're the first to know.

Dr. Kellen gave me the stethoscope, you know.

-Did she? -Uh-huh.

[Val] I didn't tell you this, mama.

No, you didn't.

And I got to listen to their heartbeats.

[Lilimae] Oh.

I'm telling you, it was just...

It was so...

-Special. -Extraordinary.

Yeah, it was unbelievable.

[telephone ringing]

-I don't believe it. -Isn't it beautiful?

Have you ever heard anything so fantastic?

-Hello? -I mean, really, Karen...

What? Could you please speak up a little louder?

I'm having trouble hearing you.

[shushing]

Please be quiet. It's long distance.

-Oh, is it Ben, honey? -I don't know.

Yes.

Yes, this is Valene Ewing.

What?

When?

You're sure?

You're absolutely sure there's no mistake?

Yes, I... I understand.

Alright, thank you.

Yes, thank you very much.

Val?

It's Ben.

Val.

Two other reporters and their driver.

What happened?

They were on their way to a...

rebel encampment and their Jeep was hit.

-Oh, my God. -Oh, my God.

Oh, my God.

The Jeep's been found...

with none of them in.

Gone.
