[narrator] Previously on Knots Landing...
-What happened? -Jeff is dead.
Excuse me?
Jeff...
-So how long you staying? -My plans aren't set yet.
[Anne thinking] I know why.
She's after her brother's money.
[Claudia thinking] My word.
She's after my brother's money.
I'd be more comfortable in the bedroom.
Greg.
Now don't be judgmental, darling.
I need to report a missing person.
[Val] Gary Ewing.
Goodbye, cowboy.
[theme music]
Karen.
[Karen shrieks]
I can't believe I'm seeing you.
It's good to see you.
Why are you so calm?
I'm not.
I just got back.
I came over here as soon as I found out
about the expl*si*n.
-Where were you? -I was out of town.
Jeff, you know, they...
-They found a body. -I heard.
-I thought it was you. -I know.
-But... -Maybe it was my landlord.
No, no, no. I saw him after.
Oh, thank God.
Wait, you think somebody broke into my apartment?
-Did you talk to the police? -No, I came straight here.
Why weren't you there when it happened?
I came by, remember? To pick you up.
I had an emergency.
I left you a note, but I-I guess....
Oh, my God, someone broke into your apartment to rob you
and they burned to death.
Sounds like it.
-Where is everybody? -We pulled the plug early.
-Oh? -Because of you.
-Me? -In memory of...
I guess the crew is gonna be disappointed
to find out I'm alive.
[Karen and Jeff laugh]
Oh, I'm gonna call Sue and tell--
Little rain on my parade already.
You know how people grow in stature once they're dead.
Let's keep folks thinking nice things about me.
Oh, are you kidding?
You were a saint around here before you die.
Besides, I've gotta find someone to get us out of here.
The stage doors are locked.
What's your hurry? Hot date with Mack?
Really. I wanna get home.
-You come with me. -Is your son picking you up?
He's not even speaking to me.
Hey, you don't happen...
Do you still have the master key?
[menacing music]
Oh, you. Come on, let's go.
Jeff.
-What's gone into you? -[Jeff chuckles]
Oh, I got it.
You really did die
and you came back to life as an eighth grader.
[Karen and Jeff laugh]
Come and get it.
Well...
Thanks just the same but I'm not reaching
into your pants.
Nice try, but...
No.
Jeff.
[music continues]
Open this door.
I want you to open this door and I want you to open it now.
I'm quite serious, Jeff. This isn't funny.
You've gone beyond the bounds of good taste and good judgment.
[Jeff laughs]
Now you sound like my eighth-grade teacher.
Jeff, open the door.
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen
and welcome... to Open Mic.
Today's scheduled guest was Jeff Cameron.
Unfortunately, Mr. Cameron can't be with us
because he's dead.
Jeff.
Jeff was a man of energy
wit and integrity.
His professionalism allowed him to rise above
the daily pressures and pettiness
that could affect any job.
What's going on?
What's going on?
You're the host, you figure it out.
[laughs] Ask me some questions.
I mean, how often do you get to interview a dead man?
You know when the security guard--
[shouting] No. Don't do that, Karen.
Don't you insult my intelligence.
Don't do it.
When the security guard gets here
he will do what he always does.
Which is the check and make sure
that the doors are locked.
This is what, Karen.
He will find that the doors are indeed securely locked.
Next question.
What's the security guard's name?
Bet it's not Wayne.
Why not Wayne?
Well, he burned to death.
[Karen] In your apartment?
He was dedicated to you, Karen.
I don't think you...
I don't think you know how much he worshipped you.
I know that kind of obsession is not a healthy thing
but even after you fired him, he worried about protecting you.
He was convinced that it was Diane
who sent those snakes
that beef heart.
You send those things?
-You sent the letters? -With my love always.
[slams box] Good old Wayne.
You know, he kept up with his little
personal investigation
and somehow with that tiny little mind of his
concluded what you just concluded
and showed up on my doorstep one day
with the suggestion that I turned myself in.
[laughs]
He showed up just before you did.
I didn't want him worrying you.
[heavy crash]
Technically, the fire k*lled him.
And as it turned out, officially
the fire k*lled me.
So whatever happens to you...
-I didn't do anything. -[shouting] What do you want?
[clatter]
Karen, I have what I want.
We have the perfect opportunity.
Mack's waiting for me at home.
When I don't show up, he'll call someone.
-He won't find you. -[Karen gasps, screams]
[Karen screams]
[pants]
Because Wayne is missing, I suspect him.
You won't suspect me because I'm dead!
[music continues]
Jeff.
You don't wanna do this.
What have I ever done to you?
Let me help you.
[Jeff laughs]
[Jeff] What a presumption. This is my life, Karen.
The part I enjoy anyway.
Why?
Why, Jeff?
-You're not a-- -Ted Bundy?
No. No Ted Bundy.
I don't blame other people for the women I k*ll
and I haven't k*lled as many as him yet.
[Karen grunts]
Come on. Whoa!
Jeff.
Let's just get it over with.
-Diane. -Diane.
-[Karen] Diane. -Shut up, Karen.
I've already heard everything out of you I ever want to hear.
What are you doing here?
Jeff, can't you do anything right?
Hey, give me the knife, you big sissy.
You're making this big to do
because you're afraid to finish the job.
See, I want her to suffer.
I wanted her to feel it. Otherwise we could use a g*n.
This is my plan.
-Hold it. -Drop the knife.
-Hey are you alright? -Quicken up. Quicken up.
[police officer] Alright, alright.
-What's the story? -This man attacked me.
-That's not true, Karen. -That's his knife.
Arrest him.
-And this woman helped. -I was bluffing.
I was trying to distract him.
Officer, perhaps I can clarify things.
Miss MacKenzie' been
under an enormous stress recently.
I found her with a knife talking suicide.
That's a lie.
I I did my best to take the knife from her, but, well...
I can understand how Diane must have misunderstood things.
You know, she just got out of a psychiatric hospital.
thanks to you and the LSD you slipped me.
Just a minute.
No, I'm not gonna wait just a minute
because I can clear this whole thing up.
I taped it.
You what?
Taped it T-A-P-E-D as in, watch.
May I?
I came by to clear up my things.
I answered by the back door
and I saw that man menacing that woman.
Now he confessed to some of the things
that I myself have been accused of
so I decided to put him on tape.
-You left me out here? -I called 911 first.
I knew it would take a few minutes.
Let's see the tape.
-You're not-- -Ted Bundy?
Oh, I'm not Ted Bundy.
I don't blame other people...
[grunts]
[intense music]
[police officer] Put him the cuffs.
[Diane] Karen.
You haven't thanked me.
[mouthing] Thank you.
[parrot squawking]
-What's this? -That is your suitcase.
This is my suitcase.
The things you brought no longer fit into your luggage
because you've managed to steal half of my clothes.
Keep the suitcase.
You're peeled.
Brilliant deduction, Mother.
Well, how do you like that?
I left Greg so you wouldn't be angry.
And I mean, I know how touchy you are.
You knew I was going over there.
You didn't even try to be discreet.
Well, you're making an awful big fuss
about a man you claim you don't give a hoot about.
I don't. He is my boss.
How am I supposed to look him in the face
knowing that you two have been carrying on?
I don' even want to go back to work.
Well, I wouldn't be so hasty. You need your income.
This is not an inexpensive apartment.
Well...
You expect me to leave?
I expected you to leave weeks ago.
In the middle of the night?
There are plenty of places to go in the middle of the night.
Hotels, motels
the airport, the train station, the bus station, the Y.
Greg Sumner's bed.
Goodbye.
Your bags are out there.
Somebody's going to steal your clothes.
Out.
[parrot squawking]
I packed your makeup, too.
[parrot] Anne is a jerk.
She's asleep. She's fine. She's beautiful. Am I right?
You know, it's true.
Your life does flash before your eyes
when you think you're gonna die.
Not the history of your life, but...
what you are.
What's important?
[gentle music]
[parrot] Anne is a jerk.
[parrot squawking]
[parrot] Anne is a jerk.
This is Paige.
[parrot whistling]
I-I'm not feeling very well.
I won't be coming into work today.
No, no, don't have him send any work over.
I'm much too sick to work.
Thank you.
[parrot] Anne is a jerk.
Greg is a jerk.
Greg's a jerk.
[parrot] Anne is a jerk.
Greg is a jerk.
Right? Right?
-[parrot] Anne is a jerk. -Ah-ha.
You know your switchboard won't put me through.
Hey, don't knock my switchboard. It's my best friend.
We're gonna have to work out some form of communication.
Why?
-Oh, come on. -Why?
-You're my brother. -So?
I just wanna know that you're taking care
of yourself.
All my buttons are buttoned and my underwear is clean.
Is it really so hard for you to believe
that someone could be genuinely concerned about you?
It's hard for me to believe
that you are genuinely concerned about me.
Because I offer to help you out when you're sick.
Said the spider to the dying fly.
I guess I really have become your straight man, huh?
Only because I find it hard to take your concern seriously.
Oh?
But you'll take that flippity gerbil
Anne Matheson seriously.
Alright. Okay, fine. That's just fine.
We'll let Anne Matheson take care of you
and then in a few months, you will end up exactly
where her assets are.
Gone.
You came all the way over here to tell me that Anne is broke?
No, I did not come here to tell you that...
I presumed you knew it.
I don't wanna argue with you.
It was nice seeing you. Have a nice safe trip back east.
Enjoy your life. Adios.
Greggie.
I'm not going back east.
I've taken a job teaching anthropology.
That's what I came to tell you.
-You mean you're staying here? -I wanna be near Kate.
I guess I'm gonna have to hire a food taster.
You know
as angry as you make me feel sometimes
I don't blame you.
It's really Mother's fault.
I don't think I wanna hear this theory.
Try.
She always pitied us against one another.
Maybe it gave her some kind of perverse pleasure.
I don't know.
But she's gone now
and you and I don't have to act the way that she taught us to.
There are brothers and sisters who are still friends.
Or at least they can become them as adults.
Or maybe it's just a kid in me
but I don't wanna be your friend.
[sad music]
Fine.
Well, with the last month's rent
the damaged deposit and the cleaning fee
that's almost $4000 just to move in.
No, it's more than a bargain.
I was just hoping for something a little bigger.
Okay. Thanks.
[music continues]
[parrot screeching]
[parrot] Anne is a jerk.
-[hairdryer whirring] -[parrot whistling]
[parrot] Anne is a jerk.
[parrot whistling]
[hairdryer whirring]
[parrot] Pretty boy.
[parrot] Anne is a jerk.
When and where he was last seen, what he was wearing
his age, description, things like that.
Do you have a photo?
I gave the best one I had to the police.
Oh, I'm having pictures made at one of those one-hour places.
Some copies.
Do the kids know Gary's missing?
I told them that he went back out to the ranch.
Well, that's the truth. And that's all that I'm...
Frank, do you have a list of all those radio stations?
-And newspapers. -Great, thanks.
Mack, if you could please ask Karen to give some of these
to the news director at the station.
After all she's been through, should Karen go?
Alright, look, okay.
Look, if she can't do it, then I'll just take it over.
Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Karen's fine.
It's just a matter of time
before she gets back in the swing of things.
I'm sure. Come on.
I hate all this. It's so frustrating.
Well, especially when we know who's probably responsible
for it all.
Mack...
Is any of this gonna do any good at all?
Val, we'll find Gary.
[scream]
They were so excited about the house.
The rooms were large enough
the remodeling had been done to code
and they loved the neighborhood.
I was showing them the yard.
I had no idea I'd find this.
The house has been empty for weeks.
But... well, I never bothered to check it out
because I've never had clients in this income bracket before.
I'm just starting out and I don't have
very many clients, and well...
I've never had anybody that could qualify
for anything like this, and...
[sighs]
Do you think I have to put this on the disclosure sheet?
We know he no longer lived with his wife
and his girlfriend threw him out of her place yesterday
around 1:00.
Do you recall seeing him around here anytime yesterday?
Yes, I do.
I came home for lunch and then I was getting
in my car.
[eerie music]
What are you doing here?
-Parking. -Wait. Wait, kids.
Mommy said to put the mail in.
-Hi. -What are you doing here?
Standing.
And he just stood there drinking
right in front of those little children.
Hey, hey, hey. What the hell do you think--
You're not driving this car.
Take the kids inside and call him a cab.
Call me a cab? Come on. That's an old joke.
Actually, you do better than that.
You're leaving, pal.
This is private property, pal.
And this is still my house, pal.
So I'll stay wherever the hell I want.
Tell Val that her husband is here.
Pal.
I knew that I couldn't make him leave.
No way.
There was something
that I wanted to ask him.
-Where is he? -Sweetheart.
Don't you "sweetheart" me. Where is Gary?
She is having the hardest time pulling on to that man.
-Did you notice that, Mack? -Where is Gary?
Is Gary the Saint missing?
Oh, my, my, my.
Well, now, ain't that something.
Perfect father, the perfect mate
the perfect friend, gone?
Well, let's check out the highways.
Highways. Let's search...
Let's search the land and the sea.
See, what am I talking about? Gary Ewing could walk on water.
Couldn't he?
And Jesus Christ came back from the dead
in only three days.
Surely Gary Ewing could do better than that.
Don't you think so, Mack?
If you have done anything dirty...
Let us pray for you.
You are despicable.
That is not nice.
-Hey, Danny. You're leaving. -What?
Oh, no, please, please.
Don't take me away from this Garden of Eden
where all the lawns are perfectly manicured
and all the barbecued Wheaties are made of turkey.
Never mind that all the neighbors
are hypocrites.
Your wife's so quick to condemn me on her TV show.
I didn't see her fessing up to the fact
that she was a dope addict.
And is there anybody in this town
the perfect Gary Ewing has not slept with?
Look that'll bring her back.
And you, Val
you and Gary were not exactly married
during Bobby and Betsy's
less than immaculate conception, were you?
Danny, get in the cab.
Oh, and Mack, the overgrown Boy Scout.
Val, you make me sick.
[dramatic music]
People don't put safety fences around their pools
because it ruins the look
and then they're surprised
when someone falls in and drowns.
We have accidents like this.
Gary is on the phone.
[Val gasps]
I forgive you.
For what?
Well, if you don't know, I'll keep the flower for myself.
Not many men turn me down.
I can understand why.
Do you have any Scotch that is Scotch
or is it all apple juice now?
Look in the apple juice container
but don't tell Carlos.
I don't take what happened the other night personally.
I understand your fixation on Paige.
It's a male midlife thing.
Midlife?
Babe, this is the end of my life.
There is no afterlife. This is it.
So, it's a...
End-of-life crisis?
What a charming way to put it.
Lots of men seek out youth even if they are dying.
A lot of women do it too, come to think of it.
What exactly are you absolving me of?
Don't feel self-conscious about your attraction to Paige.
I don't.
Can't you buy a liver somewhere?
Sure, one that you braise and cover with onions.
But I gotta tell you.
I'm not the sort of woman
that would hold a little thing
like a lousy liver against a man.
That's reassuring.
But I am sort of woman
who could help a man through a midlife crisis
or an end-of-life crisis.
-Or puberty for that matter. -You've been cavalier, Greg.
So I have to tell you.
Even if your liver were perfect
you die an old man
before my daughter ever came back to you.
She positively hates you.
Really?
I always thought deep down that you liked Paige
because she looks like I looked when I was her age.
It was flattering
in an odd sort of way.
We missed out on a lot together when we were young, didn't we?
Let me ask you a question.
What did you do with all your money?
What?
Why didn't you tell me you were broke?
It doesn't matter.
You tell me.
In the old days, you would have had the class
not to embarrass a friend like this.
[knocks on door]
-Who is it? -[Paige] Open the door.
I came to return this.
You can keep it.
No, thank you.
You can use it to pay this bill.
-What is it? -It's a bill.
I'm charging you for everything you stuck me for.
What? It's only reasonable.
The cake and the flowers didn't keep too well.
Just pay this bill and I'll settle your account
for good.
-Paige... -On second thoughts.
It was worth it to find out how fickle you were.
Fickle I am? What about you?
Huh? What about you?
Or were you at Greg Sumner's house
last night on business?
You're following me?
I'm not following you. I went through on my own.
Let me say this.
I may have done some dumb things for money.
I never took off my clothes on the job, okay?
-How dare you? -How dare I? I saw them.
Even the damn stockings I just sent you.
So don't come over here and tell me about--
Those weren't my clothes. They were my mother's.
-What? -Well, they were my clothes.
But they were my mother's.
Your mother and Greg Sumner?
Yeah.
I've always wanted one of those little old gray-haired
rosy-cheeked, rounded-tummy ladies
who work in a candy store behind the counter
for my mother.
No such luck, huh?
I love you.
Even if you hate me, I love you.
Thanks.
I do too.
You do too what? Love me or hate me?
That's right.
[endearing music]
[elevator bell ringing]
[elevator bell ringing]
[music continues]
You know, you're lucky, pal, to be able to walk away
from a crash like that.
It wasn't luck, Mack.
He'd be dead right now
if he hadn't installed those airbags in the car.
Yeah, I had to put him for the kids.
I'm always worried something's gonna happen to kids.
Man, if it haven't been for them...
What took you so long to call?
Mack, he was unconscious. He lost a lot of blood.
Dehydrated, I mean...
Took me all day to go to the hospital.
I kept passing out, but I kept going
because I didn't wanna get Danny the satisfaction of dying.
I mean, it must have taken me six hours to get up the hill.
And nobody would pick you up.
You wouldn't have picked me up either
if you'd seen how I look.
Finally, the highway troll picked me up.
The rest is history.
I'm alive and he's not.
How's Karen doing?
Well, she would have come over tonight
but she's just not her old self yet.
[Mack] Yeah, If you get a chance, stop by, say hello.
Not tonight. Tomorrow. She's sleeping.
[sad music]
Anne.
Claudia, what are you doing here?
I came to see Greg.
Same as you, I guess.
Actually, I'm here to see my daughter.
Oh.
Didn't you see her this morning at the apartment?
I missed her when I came in this morning.
You know, I was telling Kate how well you and Paige
get along living together.
Decided maybe we should try it
so I asked her to move in with me.
She'd probably rather live in California, wouldn't she?
Oh, no, I meant here.
I just took a teaching post at the university.
-How nice. -Well, that's why I'm here.
To get Greg's recommendation as to where to live.
Well, I'm sure he'll have lots of suggestions.
Why don't you come with me to see Greg?
Then maybe you and I can catch a movie
or do something to celebrate my new job.
I have errands to run.
Well, maybe you and Greg and I can have dinner tonight.
[chuckles] I have plans.
Well, you know, I'm just dying to go out with you two.
Oh, we'll have to do it sometime.
Why don't I schedule with Greg right now?
Why don't you let me handle that?
Fine.
-Well... -I'll call you.
-Great. Bye-bye. -Bye.
She didn't want me to ask Greg 'cause he dumped her.
[chuckles]
So these are the dates.
There's a lot of tournaments. You must really love tennis.
Yeah, I do.
The first one starts this afternoon.
I would really like it if you could come.
Well, I have meetings all day.
I really wish you had told me sooner.
-Good morning, Greg. -Come in here, will you?
-I'll be right there. -Okay.
-See ya. -Okay.
Don't try to turn me into this kid's father.
Whoa, I never said anything
about you acting like her father.
Kate's the one who wanted to see you.
She's very excited about her first tournament.
It'd mean a lot if you were there.
Yeah, she already popped the plan.
I hope you didn't talk to her the way you're talking to me.
Do you know that young man?
Don't use Kate.
Come on, sweetheart. Let's celebrate your victory.
But, Mom, I haven't even played yet.
-[Paige giggles] -[knocks on door]
-Hi. -Enjoying hotel life, Mother?
You wouldn't believe where I'm staying.
It's absolutely to your taste.
Nice to see you, Tom.
Are you two catching up on old times?
I'd say we're definitely catching up on old times.
-Oh, Paige... -Don't hug me.
-Well, have you set the date? -Date?
Well, you're not going to elope, are you?
Nobody said anything about a wedding.
We decided we're going to live together.
Well, that's not proper.
You're from the Woodstock generation, Mother.
You believe in free love, remember?
Yeah, but that was the '60s
and these are the '90s
and it's not proper in the '90s.
You don't know what's proper and what isn't.
Well, look on the bright side, Miss Matheson.
Paige said that you wanted more room.
Now you can have her apartment all yourself.
Of course, you'll have to pay your own rent.
Of course.
You know, Val keeps telling me I gotta pull something good
out of this experience.
You have to be aware of how precious life is.
No, more like life's too short
and during what's left of it, I wanna be able to see
the Dannys of the world coming from a mile off
so I can get them before they get me.
Afterwards, after what Danny did
Did you have the urge to drink?
No, not a bit.
Good.
That doesn't surprise me.
Good for you.
Pure clean and sober fantasy. Tie me up and make me drink.
Yeah, being stuck in an elevator fantasy.
Oh, yeah.
Locked in with a beautiful woman
Yeah, a gorgeous guy.
-And it's so cold. -Yeah, it's so cold out.
The only way you can stay alive is to...
[Gary laughs]
No, no, it wasn't... I wasn't like that at all.
Not a bit.
God, the alcohol didn't even taste good.
[sighs] Didn't feel good.
Didn't produce any cravings.
Just disgust.
It was like being r*ped.
Tell you the truth.
I wish Danny was still alive.
I mean it. He didn't suffer enough.
He died too fast, too quick.
I wish I could pay him back.
Make him really, really hurt.
Gary, you can't live your life feeling vengeful.
What, do you feel obligated to say that?
-No, I-- -Well, why not?
I'm sure not interested in forgiving the man.
Look, I know I'm saying this too, Pollyanna
but let's face it, Polly
this forgiveness thing is overworked a bit.
Don't you think? I mean...
Live and let live only cuts it
when both parties agree to the contract.
And he didn't agree to anything.
No, I mean, you can't live your life
feeling vengeful for your sake.
It can only hurt you. It can't hurt him.
That's exactly my point.
He didn't suffer enough before he died.
You just said life is too short.
You're gonna have to let go of that anger someday, Gary.
-You just have to. -Yeah, well...
Check with me in about 50 years, Polly.
I am not a Pollyanna. Not now. Not after what was done to me.
And that's why I feel so angry.
What, that you're not a Pollyanna?
I want to be a Pollyanna.
I don't wanna look at the world through rose-colored glasses.
I want the world to be rose-colored.
I want people to be nice. People should be nice.
Nice should be the norm.
I hate it that I can't trust anyone.
I hate it that I can't put my daughter
on the front lawn by herself.
I hate it that I have to lock my car
and I have to worry about an alarm system
in my house and I can't send cash
in the mail.
That's not the way it's supposed to be, Gary.
I liked being a Pollyanna. I want to be a Pollyanna.
That's what I want.
Filing for bankruptcy is not a disgrace.
It is a sound business decision.
Corporations do it to save their business
stave off creditors
and if we handle things properly
you can still live well.
Let's make a list for the property
that you want to keep.
They let you keep things?
Why didn't you tell me that before?
You never asked.
-So what can I keep? -Your home.
-I don't have one. -Your car.
They've taken it
-Family jewelry. -I've sold it.
Tools of your trader profession?
Oh, please.
Don't you have anything left?
No.
So it looks like bankruptcy protection
isn't going to do me a whole hell of a lot of good.
Is it?
Looks like I'll have to manage on my own.
But I've done that before.
[telephone ringing]
I've got it, Ginny.
Hello?
-Hello. Mrs. Waleska? -Yes?
This is the coroner's office calling.
Your husband's body has been autopsied
and is ready for release.
I don't care what you do with the body.
Mrs. Waleska, you're the next of kin.
[chuckles] So?
You have to dispose of the body.
Just sign a release form with the mortuary of your choice
and we'll turn the body over to them.
I haven't even talked to any mortuary.
If you don't have him picked up soon
we will have to start charging you for storage.
Okay. Look. Alright.
I-I'll take care of it.
I'm very sorry for this inconvenience
during your time of sorrow.
-Good day. -Yeah.
Good day.
What's the matter, honey?
Ginny.
I am Danny's widow.
I have to make the funeral arrangements.
-Arrangements? -Yeah.
Somebody ought to throw him from a moving truck
into a landfill.
It's a good sign
that your liver function stabilized.
Does that mean I'm gonna live longer?
No way of knowing that.
I thought you said it was a good sign.
-It is. -What was the good sign?
I should live longer. Otherwise it's not a good sign.
This is not an absolute science.
The prognosis is unchanged.
You sure you don't wanna get a legal opinion on that?
Just kidding.
What's the chances of getting a new liver?
You're on the list of potential recipients.
At the top of the list, I hope.
O negative is hard to match, and without a blood type match
your body would reject the transplant.
Talking to you is very depressing.
Didn't they teach bedside manner
at that medical school you went to?

Why for "cause of death" here does it say "deferred"?
We couldn't determine
how intoxicated your husband was
at the time of drowning
because alcohol levels rise after death.
But why does the level matter?
Well, we assumed that he fell into the pool by accident
and couldn't pull himself out because he was too drunk.
No, he was drunk. I-I saw him. I told you that.
The autopsy showed
that his fingers on both hands were broken.
What?
The possibility that someone
prevented your husband from getting out of that pool
means that the cause of death is deferred
until we can rule out homicide.

[eerie music]
