13x16 - Baths and Showers

Post by bunniefuu »

[narrator] Previously on Knots Landing.

[Claudia] How well do you know my brother?

[Pierce] Just as a worthy adversary.

I have nothing but respect for the man.

Besides, I hear he's on the new pastures.

Rumor has that he's sniffing around Burton Biotechnologies.

I wouldn't be surprised. He's been very restless.

But don't take that as a confirmation.

You're going to have to learn a little self-control.

No

Control, Claudia.

That is the lesson for the day.

What is it you think you have on me?

Some people might call it m*rder.

There is not a court in this country.

We are not talking about a court.

We are talking about what your brother

would think about this.

Your brother.

You didn't wait long, didn't you?

Get out.

Didn't take you long to get back with Sumner, did it?

-Pierce? -You're next.

I think you should hire a bodyguard, Greg.

You're an easy target.

Bodyguard's aren't my style.

[indistinct chatter]

[tense music]

Listen...

-[Pierce] What the-- -[thump]

[tense music]

[groaning]

[Pierce breathing heavily]

Just a little message from Greg Sumner.

You avoid Paige Matheson.

Now let's define those terms.

Avoid means you don't visit her,

you don't talk to her on the telephone,

and you don't even look at her if she gets in your zip code.

You got it?

[choking]

Got it?

[Pierce breathing heavily] Yeah. I got it.

[tense music]

[Pierce breathing heavily]

Good.

[theme music]

Mr. Burton, did Mort give you the tour?

Did an excellent job. It's very impressive.

Well, we're very impressed with you too.

And your company.

-Thank you. -No debts.

Clean as a whistle. No lawsuits.

Sounds almost too good to be true.

If it's too good to be true, don't buy it.

Mr. Sumner meant--

My father founded Burton Biotechnologies

I put the best years of my life into it.

It's a family business, okay?

With a certain tradition.

Well, we have traditions here too.

They're called making money.

Thanks, Mort.

What Mr. Sumner is saying, Mr. Burton,

is that your traditions are safe here with us.

Look, I'm not a fool.

I know times have changed.

The fact is, either I become part of the Sumner group

or I get chopped up by corporate raiders.

-So I'm the lesser of two evils. -That's right.

Well, we ought to be able to get this sewed up

in a few days.

I'd like to keep it quiet, though.

I don't want to see the stock getting jumpy

over the next couple of weeks.

That's not the way I do business, Sumner.

Good.

You got to keep a tight lid on this.

And I don't appreciate being lectured to.

Mr. Tact.

The whole publishing climate has changed.

And since we originally accepted your presentation,

the market for your kind of quality fiction has all

but... vanished.

Yeah.

Nice of you to get to keep the advance.

Well, good, because I don't have it to give back.

Well writers seldom do.

Well...

I won't keep you.

I don't have anything else to do, Val.

I came here to see you.

You flew all the way out from New York

just to reject my book, huh?

Of course not.

I came to make you a proposition.

What kind of proposition?

You know Greg Sumner, right?

Yeah.

How'd you like to write a book about him?

-What? -Yeah.

We'd like you to write a biography of Greg Sumner.

Sumner is one of the most powerful men in the world

and yet when you ask people who he is,

all you get is a massive contradictions.

A reform minded senator, corporate bad boy,

ladies man.

I've even heard that he's connected with a mob

and with secret international cartels

that want to run the world.

Now, it's possible that all the rumors,

all the contradictions are true?

But what's even more incredible...

is that nobody's ever bothered to write the story.

You're on the inside, Val.

You know all the players.

It's a natural.

Not in a million years. No.

[birds chirping]

[Karen] Val.

Hey.

Hi.

I saw you drive up.

How did lunch go?

Well, they... they don't want the novel.

Oh, that's rotten. After all your work.

Yeah, my editor said that quality novels don't sell.

I suppose I should be flattered.

Val. You must feel awful.

Well, yes and no.

He came here with another proposal.

Oh, don't tell me they want you to write a trashy romance novel?

-Great. -Uh-um.

What?

They want me to write a biography of Greg Sumner.

-You're kidding. -No, I'm not.

A biography of Greg Sumner?

-That's ridiculous. -I know

-You're not-- -I'm not.

You wouldn't even consider it, would you?

Well... I don't know, Karen.

They're willing to pay me this amazing advance.

You are considering it.

I guess I am.

[dramatic music]

Mmh.

Get out.

I said get out of here.

[tense music]

I've been thinking, Claudia.

I've been thinking that I've never seen you

keep company with another man.

Stop thinking, Alex. You're not good at it.

You're very attractive.

Sexy.

You must have needs.

I know I do.

Here we are, two attractive people...

living under the same roof.

[water splash]

Get out of here.

[sighs]

[chuckles]

It was only a suggestion.

You're not seriously considering it, are you?

Well, yeah, I...

I told Hugh that I would think about it.

Why?

Well...

Because it's kind of a challenge.

Nobody has ever asked me to do anything like this before.

You know, greed, manipulation, corruption.

If I, if I could just get to the truth of the man

behind all that.

The truth?

They're not going to see it that way.

They're going to crucify you.

-Who? -The press, the critics.

They're going to say it was pure revenge.

Revenge? Gary.

What are you talking about?

Honey, Sumner has screwed me so many times

it's hard to keep track.

Before Tidal Energy, it was Lotus Point,

before Lotus Point, Empire Valley.

Yeah, but see, that's not why I would be writing this.

Yeah, but how objective can you be?

But revenge has nothing to do with it.

-It doesn't. -I know that.

But that's what it's going to look like.

[upbeat music playing on headphones]

Alex.

Alex.

Hey Claudia.

[Alex grunting] When did you come down?

I will be sleeping elsewhere tonight.

When I come home tomorrow from work,

I expect you to be gone.

Gone?

What do you mean? Out of here?

Exactly.

Aren't you forgetting something?

I'm not forgetting anything.

Just pack your bags and go.

What about all that information I'm carrying around?

Shall I pack that too? It's...

It's pretty heavy.

What are you going to do with it, Alex?

Take it to the police in Connecticut.

[chuckling] No, just talk to your brother.

I doubt if you could even get near my brother without my help.

I wouldn't count on that.

Oh please, I'll find a way.

Find it someplace else.

You're welcome. It's just worn out.

What's a multiple flower stimulator?

Got me, but Burton makes it.

Sounds sexy.

Something you buy at le sex shop.

And what would you know about le sex shops?

Hardly anything. Yo, Claudia.

Where you going?

I was going to sleep in my office.

Why?

Well, that's it for me.

I'm beat.

Excuse me, I have to go and read

about multiple flower stimulators.

If it gets you turned on, take a cold shower.

I have to tell you something.

-Yeah? -I...

I should have told you this before, but...

But you didn't, so why don't you tell me now?

[sighs]

You know this boy that's been staying with me?

Yeah. I've been wondering about that.

What's going on there?

[sighs] You know who he is?

Yeah. His aunt took care of the old lady.

Rosa Barth? Yes. When mother was dying, I tended to her with Rosa's help.

But you know all that.

Claudia, where's this going?

Mother was in a lot of pain at the end, Greg.

Horrible pain.

These... pills.

Would keep her alive.

Now she didn't want to take them.

She begged us to let her die.

She even spit them out.

But Rosa and I would force them down her.

One...

One afternoon.

I didn't force them down.

Mother didn't have a lot of time left anyway

and she was in so much pain

and when I looked at her...

and I saw the suffering...

and the pleading in her eyes. I didn't make her take them.

I gave her something else.

It was what she wanted

and I couldn't bear it anymore.

Rosa Barth was downstairs and she was fixing dinner.

When she came up.

It was over, but she knew.

A week later she came to me threatening to go to the police.

What'd you do?

I paid her.

Not much by your standards, but enough.

Enough to hurt.

And what happened to her?

She...

She died last fall and then...

[sighs and chuckles]

her nephew Alex shows up.

Picking up the baton.

He's got affidavits.

Cancelled checks, letters from the doctor,

so he says.

[emotional music]

[Greg] You got a lot of guts to do what you did.

I don't think I could have done it myself.

[Claudia sobs]

What do you think this kid wants out of all of this?

Oh. What? What?

He has got a roof over his head,

three meals

and probably in the back of his head,

the idea that through me he gets to you,

he knows where the power is.

Send him in here to see me.

What for?

I admire you...

Sis. But euthanasia still ain't legal.

This kid can make it messy for you.

Send them in. Let me talk to him, feel him out.

[tense music]

Hello. Anybody home?

-Mr. Barlette. -[Pierce] Have a seat.

I'll be right there.

Fine.

I hope I'm not too late.

The headhunters set--

Pierce Lawton.

-Nice to see you, Mort. -What happened to your eye?

Well, let's just say I ran into a door.

Have a seat.

Uh, I can't stay here. I can't talk to you.

-Why not? -Mr. Sumner wouldn't approve.

Does Mr. Sumner have to approve everything you do?

[Mort chuckles] Goodnight.

Does he approve of the Boston Supply Corporation?

Does he approve of your insider trading?

Your creative accounting techniques?

What about some of your fringe benefits?

Like those weekends in Kuwait.

[nervous laughter]

How did you find out about that?

What's the difference? I know.

What's this gonna cost me?

Not a red scent.

I just need a little special information.

Information?

From inside the belly of the beast.

I want to be able to pick up a phone and call you, Mort.

I need to know what he's buying and what he's selling.

This is crazy.

All that information crosses your desk.

I know. I've checked it out.

So from now on if I hear a rumor like...

say, Sumner's going to move on Burton Biotechnologies.

I need to be able to call you.

You with me, Mort?

Mr. Sumner's not the one to deal this to.

You don't mess with him.

[scoffs]

You've already messed with him.

Now it's just a question of whether he finds out.

[tense music]

-Hey, this is great, huh? -[Val and Karen] Yeah.

When was the last time we were together like this?

Just the four of us.

Yeah, I missed it.

Yeah, me too.

At least we should get the check, huh?

Um, no.

I'm just in a mood to celebrate.

I mean...

this afternoon when my editor told me

that they weren't taking my novel, I...

felt like all the wind had been knocked out on me.

But, you know, here I am tonight

and feels as if anything's possible if we can...

When I was running the kids tub,

I was already jotting down notes.

Val.

Mack and I have been talking.

Yeah.

Well, we're concerned about the book.

Well, Val hasn't made-up her mind about the book yet.

-[Gary] Have you, Val? -No, not absolutely.

We're excited about the opportunity for the book, Val.

God knows Sumner deserves that the lid blown off

some of the crap he's pulled over the years.

So what is it then?

Meg.

Karen.

You know that I would never put anything in a book

to hurt you or your family.

[Mack] We know that, Val.

But there's no telling what kind of an effect

this book can have.

[Mack] Once the pot gets stirred and the publicity goes out

and the papers get hold of it, people are going to look into

every aspect of Sumner's life.

Including the child he gave away.

You tell his story, you tell our story.

There's no other way around it.

I guess there's a lot you haven't considered, honey.

I cannot believe that we're all so afraid of this man.

-That's not the point. -Well, then, what is it then?

We have let him bully us and bankrupt us.

He has threatened people's lives.

He even took our ranch away from us.

Honey, Sumner didn't do that.

And still, after all that,

I'm not allowed to simply tell the truth

and just write about this man?

[all gasps]

[Mack] Oh. Look at this.

[Waiter] Ladies and gentlemen, the bake for less.

I knew you'd be back.

Did you?

I knew you weren't serious.

[chuckles] I was serious.

Well, then, what are you doing here?

I came back to tell you

that you have an appointment with my brother

tomorrow morning at 11.

Oh, my God. That's great.

Oh. Alex, you will clean up this mess, won't you?

[chuckles] Um-hm.

-[knocking on door] -Yep. Coming.

-[knocking on door] -Yep, yep.

A second.

-[Vanessa] Hi. -Vanessa.

-Back from the dead. -I don't believe.

Get in here.

[Vanessa laughing]

You look wonderful. You always look wonderful.

-But-- -You too.

-What happened to the red hair? -Oh, it's gone.

History went the way in my backhand.

But what about you?

You finished second in the Italian Open

and then just disappeared. What happened?

An Italian.

[both chuckle]

I had to ask.

So what are you doing here? Where are you staying?

I was hoping I could stay with you.

There's not a lot of room, but...

It's adorable.

Where's the bedroom?

Oh, this is it.

I love it.

Unless, of course, I'd be crowding you.

No, not at all.

Just until I decide what to do or get my own flat.

You can stay as long as you like.

-Really. -That's super.

But Kate, are you sure that it's okay?

I don't want to dump myself on you.

You're not dumping yourself on me.

I mean, after what I've been through lately,

I really could use a friend.

[shower pitter-pattering]

[intense music]

Alex.

Don't forget to wear a tie.

Biotechs got up 14 points since the opening bell.

What's going on?

Somebody leaked.

We've got loose lips in this organization.

Greg, you only decided to move with that company... a day or two ago.

I'm still going to buy it even with the upturn,

it's a good deal.

Now that's good.

Well, it costs more money,

but next time we'll move faster.

I got to see this kid about a family matter.

[telephone ringing]

[telephone ringing]

Wow.

-Wow? -She's hot.

She's hot?

What does that mean?

How do you know that's not my daughter? Dope.

Is that your style?

How do you do, Sir? I think your daughter's hot.

-I like your daughter's butt? -She's not your daughter.

"She's not your daughter." That's not the point.

Sit down

The point is, you come up here

trying to make a good impression,

Drooling over attractive women in my employ

is not making a good impression.

Sorry.

-What do you want? -What?

What do you want?

My sister said you wanted to see me.

Why?

I thought maybe you could give me some advice.

What kind of advice? Career?

Where'd you go to college? What kind of degree do you have?

-No, no. -Can you program a computer?

-No, but-- -Well, then.

what are you coming here for?

This is a complicated business.

I don't need to be surrounded by dopes.

What can you do?

I ran a jewelry shop in Grand Village.

Then I got this movie producer shot

in the South of France one summer.

And I always wanted to be a writer,

but I-- I don't know that I have the talent.

[scoffs] I think you're being too modest.

I also think you're concealing your greatest talents.

Don't you?

-What do you mean? -Blackmail, Barth.

For money.

For weaseling your way into other people's lives?

That takes a rather special talent,

don't you think?

-Oh no, Mr. Sumner-- -"Oh, no, Mr. Sumner..."

What are you going to do? Deny it, dope?

No, hey, look, it worked well. It worked.

Put a roof over my head and three meals in my stomach.

If it's over...

I'll find something else.

Where are you going, dope?

[dramatic music]

Sit down. I didn't say you could go.

Alex.

-Claudia. -How did your meeting go?

He gave me a job.

Gregory.

[dramatic music]

What can I tell you?

He grew on me.

I've come up with a list of people who could have had

access to the information about Biotech.

Throw it on the desk. I'll look at it in the morning.

Well, I think you better look at it now.

Why? We can't do anything about it tonight.

I don't understand.

There's somebody leaking information

from inside this corporation,

and you're not the least bit upset about it.

Well, I am, and I intend to get to the bottom of it

if it takes all night.

I thought you were going to have dinner with Mac and Karen.

Well, I was, but I think this is a little bit more important.

Baby, it ain't any cure for cancer.

It's only business.

Go enjoy your dinner.

Kate's coming to pick me up and we're going to go to dinner

in about half an hour.

So I'm just going to clean off my desk

and then I'm going to get the hell out of here.

Okay. I'll see you in the morning.

[Alex whistling]

[elevator dings]

-Kate? -Alex.

-Hi. -What are you doing here?

Oh, I just came to pick up my uncle for dinner.

-What about you? -Uh, well, I'm working here.

You're kidding. That's great.

Or at least I think I am.

Your uncle just offered me a job.

Doing what?

Well, nobody seems to know yet.

-Pretty crazy, huh? -Yeah.

He's still on the phone inside.

Well, it must be exciting getting a new job.

I'm looking for one too.

Here. Oh no, no.

I couldn't work here.

Yeah, too much family. Yeah.

I saw in the papers

that they were having the Screwball Comedy's festival

at the old warehouse downtown and...

Oh, you probably hate old movies.

Oh no, no, I don't. I love old movies.

I guess I just figured you more for...

Nintendo.

Well, I like that too.

Well, anyway, they're having two tomorrow night.

What do you say I pick you up around 7:00?

Your place?

Must be my day, huh.

Sorry to keep you waiting, Kate.

Did Mort show you around?

Yes, Sir.

It must be thrilling coming in here every morning

knowing that you're in charge of all this.

Yeah, it's even more of a thrill

when you leave at night.

So what should we have to eat?

Anything you want.

Is there any more you would like me to do?

Don't be so eager son. Gets people edgy.

Alex, congratulations.

Thanks.

Claudia.

Claudia.

Claudia, what a day. I got a job.

I'm going to be out of your hair soon.

Self supporting and a good citizen.

You know the best thing of all is?

-Have you eaten yet? -I am not hungry.

Come on, I'm taking you out to dinner now.

How is that for change? That's the least I could do.

You know, it's been one heck of a day,

and I just want to take you out.

I would rather stay home.

Oh. No, you wouldn't.

You know. You made this happen for me.

We're equals. I've got nothing on you.

We can be friends.

[Claudia laughing]

Claudia.

It's going to be okay.

You're free now.

You don't have anything to fear from me anymore.

Alex.

When are you moving out of my house?

As soon as I get my first paycheck.

Come on now, you know you're going to be lonely.

I'll pay the price.

Maybe I'll just move in with Kate.

Kate.

What does Kate have to do with any of this?

I'm taking her out tomorrow night.

-What? -Don't hemorrhage.

-It's just a movie date. -Oh, no.

No, you don't.

You have nothing to do with Kate.

-Not tomorrow and not ever. -Why not?

You are not to go near my daughter.

Is that understood?

[Alex chuckles]

Oh. You're just jealous, man.

[Claudia groans]

So how does it feel to be back with Sumner group?

It's good. I suppose.

It's a little strange too.

It feels like the temperature around there

has changed somehow.

Something about Greg...

I don't know I'm still trying to figure it out.

[Karen] I wouldn't waste your time.

What's that supposed to mean?

I don't know, I guess I'm just getting a little bit tired

of everybody trying to figure out Greg Sumner.

What is wrong?

Nothing.

-No? -No.

We've been like this since I came in.

I'm sorry, Paige, really. It has nothing to do with you.

Here's the deal.

Val's editor wants her to do a tell-all biography

on Greg Sumner.

Mack, I don't think we should talk about this right now.

What?

-A book about Sumner? -Yeah.

She's been offered a lot of money and she wants to do it,

So we're worried about it for a couple of reasons.

Such as?

Such as if the book is going to be

as big as Val's publisher says it's going to be,

then there's going to be a lot of sleazebag journalists

running around looking into every aspect

of Sumner's life.

Including you and Mack and me.

And Meg.

And Meg.

[sensual music]

[Alex whistling]

[Claudia] Alex.

You call me.

May I have a word with you?

I...

I was so rude before.

-Oh, that's all right. -No, no, no, no, no.

I mean, I understand.

That you wanted to go out to dinner.

You had something to celebrate.

We'll do dinner another time.

[sensual music]

I...

also when we apologize for...

giving you orders before about Kate.

And obviously I can't order you not to see her.

Oh.

You're still wet.

So I'm asking, um...

I'd like to ask.

That you not see her anymore socially.

Why?

She's still so much of a little girl

in so many ways.

And I think...

that you are, just a little...

little too much man for her.

What you really mean is...

I'm not good enough?

Of course you're not.

But you are good enough for me.

[sensual music]

[moans]

b*tch.

Yes, Alex. I am.

Better hurry, Junior.

You don't wanna be late for your first day at work.

What time is it?

Oh, It's little past seven, you still have some time.

Well, if we have some time...

Time enough for you.

Not for us.

Later then.

I don't think so.

What are you saying? It was a mistake?

Oh no.

No mistake.

Why should I stay away from Kate

if it's a one time thing?

Oh, I never said that.

And you will stay away from Kate.

Better hurry.

Straight out.

And slightly up.

An oceanographer?

Ah! I fell for him hook, line and sinker.

Oh, Katie Kins. I'm sorry.

I'm really sorry.

But I think you were lucky.

Why? How do you figure that?

Because love, well, real love

only lasts about two months till you find out the truth.

The last lover I had in England was an Oxford Don

who's a beautiful man with grey hair around his temples

and leather patches on his tweed elbows

pipe in his mouth.

For about two months I was enchanted.

Until we went away

to his family's 13th century castle,

where he turned into a fool with a bottle of port

who wanted to read poetry to me.

So that doesn't sound so bad.

[Vanessa laughs] That turn me off.

Once one thing turned me off everything turned me off.

Those stupid patches.

That smelly pipe.

He used to say hello to me in the mornings

and I think.

What a bloody stupid thing to say, "Hello."

What about the Italian guy?

Charming accent,

beautifully hand tailored wardrobe.

Perfect.

Until we went away to the Amalfi coast

and he had to call his Mama every day.

Whereupon I started thinking,

why can't this idiot speak English

and why does he keep forgetting to put his arms

in his topcoat sleeves?

So you should think of it this way.

You were lucky

You had a perfect love affair

and you got out of it

before he started spouting poetry,

calling his Mama

and saying stupid things like "hello."

Well, this is actually sounding a little scary,

because you're starting to make sense.

I don't know what I'm going to do with him.

I'm going to start him out in the mailroom

-and see what happens. -But why, Gregory?

-Why? -Because I liked him.

I don't like the idea...

of having a guy with a lot of ambition

and a little bit of information about us

running around loose. It's safer and cheaper

to have him where we can see him.

[Paige] Oh, good morning.

-Morning. -Good morning.

Well, you got that look.

Val Ewing has been offered a substantial amount of money

to write your biography.

-[Paige] Did you know that? -My biography?

-You're kidding. -Nope.

Little Valene Ewing is going to write a book about me.

Would you just listen to her?

And her publisher intends this one

to be a blockbuster, pal.

Well, I'm sorry. I can't take this seriously.

I mean, it's the funniest thing I've heard since...

Gary Ewing decided to save the world

with Tidal Energy.

Greg. Please.

This is not a joke.

If Val starts digging up family history here.

Listen, we're not talking about Woodward and Bernstein here.

We're talking about a daffy blonde.

Let her write the book. I got a corporation to run.

[Claudia] Gregory.

This could be just terrible for all of us.

Oh leave her alone. Who knows?

Maybe she'll discover a Mother Teresa in disguise.

[knocking on door]

Hey.

I thought you were Kate.

I'm Kate's friend.

Alex

Um, Kate's in the laundry room.

She'll be back in a minute.

Do you want to wait in here?

Yeah, sure.

I'm Vanessa.

Hi, Vanessa.

Sorry.

I, um, I used to play tennis with Kate.

Is that right?

But you're not from here.

No. As a matter of fact, this is my first visit to California.

Uh... Mine too.

Do you like it?

[chuckling] Are you kidding me?

This place is full of all kinds of surprises.

That's what I'm discovering.

Oh. Hi.

I see you two have met.

[clears throat] Yeah. Vanessa just opened the door for me.

Well, nice to meet you Alex.

And you two have a great time.

Bye.

Well, I'm ready to go.

Nice looking girl.

Yeah, she's not bad.

I'm just so down about it, Gary.

Can't help it.

It's a wonderful chance, and it feels as if...

everybody's lined up against me.

Honey, that's not true.

I feel as if it's true.

I thought that people were supposed to be happy

about you writing a book instead of...

looking at you like you just announced

you were gonna poison their dog.

[chuckling] I'm not sure that's fair.

Well, it's not fair, darn it.

I don't want to lose Karen and Mack's friendship,

but you know what?

They're wrong about this.

Yeah, but you can understand they might be afraid.

Yeah, of course I do.

I gotta tell you the truth. That was my first reaction too.

-What? -Well.

[sighs] You know, after some of the stuff

that Summer's pulled over the years,

I just figured that chapter in my life was closed.

And I'm the one who's going to open it up again.

Is that what you're saying?

The genie's been in the bottle a long time.

I don't believe it.

You don't want me to write this book either, do you?

Got you a present.

What?

Here. Open.

What?

What is it?

Voice activated.

Small enough to fit in your purse

and records up to three hours.

[chuckles] Gary.

But I thought you didn't--

You write the hell out of this book.

You follow your heart.

That's the only choice there is.

Ever.

[romantic music]

I love you.

Did you get the information?

Yeah.

-I beg your pardon? -Yeah.

-I brought it. -Thank you.

Thank you.

[dramatic tense music]

[shouting] Hey, wait.

Relax.

It's all right.

I risk my career getting you that.

You would have risked it not getting it.

If you're going to burn it, why don't you have me steal it?

To see if you would.

Now can I go?

If you're gonna let me out of this thing

the way they've gone on red alert after the leak,

there's no way I'm going to be able to get

your stuff out of there.

And Paige has gone totally on the warpath of--

-Paige? -Yeah.

Why should Paige care?

I don't know, but ever since she's come back,

she seems like she's been closer to Sumner than ever.

What do you mean closer?

In a business way.

Are you making fun of me, Mort?

-I'm not making fun of anybody-- -Are you laughing at me?

Were you trying to tell me they're sleeping together?

How do I know if they're sleeping together?

-I leave at 5:00-- -I don't want you ever.

Laughing at me, you understand? Ever. Now remember, Mort...

I got you in my back pocket

and if you so much as mention you know me...

I'll k*ll you.
