Welcome to the Runway.

One designer will be cut every week, until three remain.

Those three will show their line at Olympus Fashion Week.

Then one winner will be chosen.

The winner will receive a spread in Elle magazine,

a mentorship with Banana Republic Design Team,

and $100,000 to start their own line.

The winner is Austin.

[Austin] I wanna be the winner of Project Runway.

It'd just be a dream come true.

[Heidi] The winner of the silent auction is Kara Saun.

[Kara] When they said you're safe

for the next round, I just wanted to start jumping.

[Heidi] Wendy, you are the winner

of the Banana Republic challenge.

Obviously, it changed my life.

I mean, of course, how could it not?

[upbeat music playing]

[Heidi] Daniel is out.

Mario out.

Star is out.

[upbeat music playing]

This is a search

for the next big fashion designer.

[Jay] This is a cutthroat business.

[Kara] The competition was fierce.

[Heidi] Twelve contestants, three finalists, and one winner.

Three designers will make their runway debut

at Olympus Fashion Week.

[Alexandra] I plan to make it to fashion week.

[Austin] I think I'll be number one.

And the winner of Project Runway will receive

everything they need to start their own label.

[Vanessa] I think I deserve to win.

People are gonna start getting pretty bitchy.

Oh, my.

For these 12 contestants,

Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.

Hi.

-[Jay] Hello. -[Vanessa] Hey, Heidi.

[Heidi] So three designers have been eliminated

and there are nine of you left.

Are you ready for your next challenge?

-[all] Yes. -[Heidi] Okay.

Fashion and music go hand-in-hand.

And this week is all about rock and roll.

[all] Ooh.

[Heidi] So this time round,

I'm going to have you design for a rising rock star.

[upbeat music playing]

[singer] ♪ Observation ♪

[Nora] When I looked at the video,

I was like so blown away by what was happening.

I immediately got inspired.

An idea immediately came into mind

of what would I make for her.

[Kara] I'm a costume designer and a fashion designer,

but in LA, you know, I've worked with Eve, you know,

Queen Latifah, Busta Rhymes, so I'm loving this challenge.

-[applause] -Please meet Sarah Hudson.

Sarah has a new album out called, "Naked Truth"

on S-Curve Records.

-Hi. -Hi.

Hello. Here are the designers.

-Hi. -All the lovely designers.

[all] Hi, Sarah.

[Heidi] This challenge is all about collaboration.

Fashion and music go hand-in-hand.

Designers and rock stars have influenced

each other for decades.

You will be designing a new look, head-to-toe for Sarah.

Soon you guys will be pitching your designs,

but first, do you guys wanna ask her some questions?

Do you plan on carrying on

the same type of look all together?

[Sarah] Yeah, I think.

Something just sexy, but girly,

kind of, little girl gone crazy,

but, you know, classy at the same time.

[Austin] I really loved your, sort of, Alice in Wonderland.

I just love that whole look.

-Like, that was lovely. -[Sarah] Yeah.

I mean, definitely, Alice in Wonderland

is like the epitome of, you know...

-[Austin] The ultimate. -...lost little girl

in this, like, crazy environment.

-Are we good? -[Jay] Good.

-[Kara] All good. -Yes.

[Heidi] Now that you know your challenge,

let's move on to the models.

[Melissa] Every time a model's eliminated,

I get more worried 'cause I don't wanna be eliminated.

[Heidi] As you all know, there's a spread

in Elle magazine on the line for the final model.

There are nine designers and ten models on the runway.

One model will be out.

Wendy won the last challenge, so she will get to pick first.

[Wendy] Thanks, Heidi.

This week, I would like to work with Morgan.

[Heidi] Austin.

[Austin] Julia.

[Heidi] Vanessa.

[Vanessa] Olga.

[Heidi] Alexandra.

[Alexandra] Martinique.

-[Heidi] Nora. -Joy.

[Rob] Last week, I had to decide between

two wonderful models,

one that would stay and work with me

and then one would be out.

[Kevin] Melissa.

[Jay] Erin.

[Kara] Jenny.

[Heidi] Robert,

there's one button in my bag and it's yours.

And it's the second time in a row that you will choose

which model is in and which one is out.

It's between Audrey and Josieanne.

[Rob] Thank you for the second time. Wow.

Josie's pulled for me at last week's, uh, challenge

until the very, very end.

I'll never forget that, but I have to go with Audrey.

[Heidi] So that means, Josieanne is out.

I'm sorry.

[Rob] I'm gonna go cry outside.

[Heidi] I'm sorry.

[Rob] The challenge was to design an outfit

for a rock star.

I know Josie's character.

I believe that I could have gotten more out of Audrey.

[Heidi] I'm sorry. You will be out.

Good morning, everyone.

[all] Good morning.

It is Challenge Four, there are nine of you left.

You are designing a performance outfit for Sarah Hudson.

She's coming here this morning, as you know,

and you're going to each be pitching to her.

You have five minutes.

We really want you to inspire her.

You have to also think about the time constraint.

You will have until midnight tonight

and an hour and a half or so in the morning

-to work on this. -[Rob] Tomorrow?

The judging's tomorrow.

-[Kara] The judging's tomorrow? -[Nora] Not Saturday?

[Wendy] Wow.

[Tim] It's called "Make it work." Okay.

So as part of this challenge,

each of the designers were asked to, sort of,

prepare a little presentation

of some ideas, sketches to give to her.

[Jay] I'll probably just go to the future,

like, 2040 where no one knows what fashion's like,

so I can just sell some bull [bleep] to her and be like,

"Well, this is what all people are gonna be wearing then."

[upbeat music playing]

[Austin] This is sort of like--

it's almost like I was imagining you

as, like, this old broken Victorian doll...

-[Sarah] Right. That's cool. -[Austin] ...or like

with this big sort of frou-frou'd

like Little Bo Peepy.

-[Sarah] Uh-hmm. -But with, like, definite edge.

-[Sarah] Right. -You know, very low and sexy.

-Lots of like cleavage ... -Right, right.

...and bustier action.

I want to do, like, you know, like corsets with like hardware.

T-shirt idea which can be tie-dyed.

-Making something graphic Edwardian. -[Sarah] Okay.

I was like, "I gotta kick some a*s

and no, I don't wanna be mediocre anymore."

Kind of control, out of control.

-Uh-hmm. -And circus.

I like that.

Everything is see-through.

It's not overt sex.

classic, erotic, pornographic lingerie.

I wanna do this kind of multimedia skirt

over the top that you can just literally,

like, a seatbelt thing, press and it pops off.

-I love that. -[Jay] You do?

-I mean-- -It's hot.

[Jay] I'm totally suited to this, me and Sarah,

I think hit it off

and she totally wants to [bleep] me.

A girl ran through a chandelier.

I costume design for Eve and some other artists.

-Awesome. Cool. -[Kara] So, it's really cool.

So the areas that I was thinking of

-is princess gone bad look. -[Sarah] Right.

[Kara] And then I thought of debutante gone bad.

[laughs] That's so perfect.

Sarah has met with each of you.

I know that she's very impressed with the work that she saw.

We have instructed Sarah

to choose the top three designers.

Those of you who are selected will come forward

when Sarah calls your name

and you will select your team from the remainder of the group.

So we will have three teams of three

and each team will execute

the work of the selected designer.

[Wendy] Turns out that we're gonna have to work in teams,

it just ramped up the stress a million percent.

Sarah.

So the first person that I picked is...

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway...

-I'm out of here. -[Kevin] No, no, no.

[Nora] I came here to compete

and not to be [bleep] around with by somebody.

[intense music playing]

[Tim] We have instructed Sarah

to choose the top three designers.

Those of you who are selected will come forward

when Sarah calls your name and you will select your team

from the remainder of the group.

-Sarah. -So the first person

that I picked is Jay.

-[all] Woo! -[chuckles]

[Jay] And obviously, there was some kind of

spark between us because she picked my a*s.

I know what she wants and bygone it,

I'm gonna give it to her.

And the next person that I picked is Austin.

-Thanks a lot. -Yeah. Thank you.

[Austin] I was very excited when I was picked because

I did feel that I, sort of, got her whole look.

[Sarah] The next person that I picked is Kevin.

No way. Thank you.

It seemed like she really did like my design,

but honestly just having worked in the industry,

a lot of female artists always go with male stylists.

So I wasn't that surprised.

Sarah has a very busy schedule,

so we're going to let Sarah head off.

-[Sarah] Okay. -And we thank you,

-and we'll see you... -Yes.

-...for the judging. -Okay. Thank you.

You will each be choosing one person at a time

according to the order in which I pull you

out of our velvet bag.

So the first person to choose will be Kevin, okay?

[Kevin] It was pretty intense.

I was like, "For the first time,

picking one of my competitors to be, you know, on my team."

This is crazy, you guys.

-[Nora] I know. -[laughter]

Nora.

[Jay] Kara Saun.

I've got the sewing bunny on my team.

-Wendy. -Dude.

-[Austin] Woo! -[Wendy] It's my man.

-Alexandra. -[applause]

I have to make the tie breaker.

Let's think.

-God, Rob. -All right.

Yeah.

You picked the one that can't sew.

[Jay] Vanessa is kind of like, "I don't know. I can't sew. "

All she did is talk about how she can't sew,

so I need things sewn,

so I'm not gonna pick her if she cannot sew.

[Vanessa] I'm sure that because of all my vocalizing

about how much I don't like sewing

put everybody off instantly.

She was left over so I ended up just getting her.

[Wendy] I have to be a strong competitor and that means

someone has to go

and if Vanessa is in a weak state

and she gets eliminated, that unfortunately benefits me.

Could I have your attention for a minute?

You are each getting $150.

You will have an hour for shopping.

Devise a strategy quickly and work at going out.

[Jay] Just be, like, "wait, we need D-rings"

you're the one who runs and finds out where it is.

-Perfect. -Make sure-- make sure we get...

The kind of overall theme of what I'm gonna go with

is French prostit*tes in the year 2050.

[Kara] I'm glad I'm working on something

that I actually really liked.

It's this big poofy skirt that's gonna be shredded

in all different funky colors.

[Vanessa] What about bows on the side of

little knickers you know.

Sarah really liked the sort of 18th century

French Revolutionary look with corsets,

this hitched up skirts

and like trains and all these, sort of, period details.

She's really into like poof.

Maybe bows on the garters.

[Vanessa] It's just so far from what I would ever design.

I suppose it's a good opportunity

to do something different, really.

The part that I'm really good at is the part he's doing.

What?

You know, the design and the thought process

and all of that.

-Everything else I don't do. -No. That's not true, Vanessa.

[Kevin] The look I'm doing is, um, kind of,

a bit insane asylum

because there's like straps hanging.

[Alexandra] We're doing a hot pinks

and, like, black fishnet stockings.

Like Barbie like crazy, you know,

like rock and roll twist, but it's fun.

It's very fun.

-Why? -Aren't you?

Make sure we don't miss anything.

-No. I-- believe me. -Forget the money.

Believe me, I never ever forget details.

[upbeat music playing]

[Nora] Yeah.

[Kevin] We'll never get eliminated.

-[Nora] No. -[Kevin] We would never.

[Nora] We would not, no.

[upbeat music playing]

[Jay] We had figured out what we wanted

before we went and then we, kind of, delegated.

Kara Saun was there

and she knew exactly what she wanted to get

and Rob, I'm kind of just treating like a sl*ve.

Robert, where are you going?

Here is headquarters at this table.

[Nora] So base fabric for the jacket, this.

I don't think that I'm gonna rub Kevin the wrong way.

I think we're a good team.

[Kevin] We need satins, too.

We need graphic like that.

I don't like the selection of color.

I need to get their feedback,

especially because I'm looking at Nora

for more of a stylistic point of view, like the eye.

[Nora] I don't wanna bring green into this.

I don't think it's like, uh, good.

[Kevin] You're right. You're right. You're right.

-[Nora] You know? -[Austin] Wendy and Vanessa

are getting all basic threads and notions and things we need.

Vanessa had a lot of issues with Austin's vision.

I didn't feel that way.

I don't need to know anything other than

the specific things he needs done.

I don't have to understand Austin's vision.

Nothing.

[Vanessa] Wendy won't speak at all.

She hasn't said anything.

She's, um, trying to find out what would be the reason

somebody would be eliminated,

so should she be a good workhorse

or should she be a good leader, or whatever.

If we buy this ribbon, it'll be a lot easier

than trying to finish all the ends of what he wants,

do you see what I mean?

Otherwise, we have to just hem it all.

How can we do that by midnight?

I don't know, it just-- something feels weird about her.

She won't speak.

[upbeat music playing]

You guys, I do not like being this harsh with fellow designers.

[Wendy] Had I been chosen,

I wouldn't care about my assistant designers,

you know, how they felt about it.

But if you have it raw,

you need to echo it somewhere else.

Well, all the ruffles are gonna be raw, on the bias.

Yeah, that'll be cool.

[Austin] Are you sure? Wendy, you haven't looked.

I'm just ready to go.

[Jay] When you put people in teams,

you're bound to have people whose heads are gonna butt.

[Nora] Kevin, we really need to stop

with the meticulous details right now.

-It's not meticulous. -[Nora] Yes, it is.

-Because it's 9:20. -[Kevin] Yeah.

And we have five hours.

[Nora] No, we don't. I don't feel like doing

major construction tomorrow morning,

I'm really sorry.

[Austin] Nora was, you know, kind of, just

unwilling to do things his way

and she was even disputing just, like, the design,

which was really up to Kevin

as the head designer of the team.

-You see? -It's not like the drawing.

-[Nora] What? -It's not like drawing.

Yes, it is.

[Jay] Nora couldn't get her hands around the fact

that it was Kevin's design.

We're gonna lose this competition.

[Jay] Perfect.

I know-- you know what you're doing.

Kara Saun's very helpful

and I think she's a great asset to this team.

And Rob, he was just on for the ride,

for goofy factor.

-Uh-oh. -Are you [bleeping] me?

-I'm going to the bathroom. -...away from me.

Robert loves to talk.

He doesn't really know how to do lots of work.

[chuckles]

We don't have time for this.

I-- every machine you touch turns to trash.

I'll do it manually.

[Nora] I looked up at the clock and it was, like, 10:30.

A lot of the stuff hadn't still been sown yet.

And a lot of stuff that

my group needed to use was missing.

-What? -[Alexandra] It's gone.

[Nora] I kinda looked around the room

and just was like,

what the [bleep]?

It was right there, in a pile of three.

[Alexandra] Did somebody remove a pattern from here?

[bleep]

Okay. That's not cool.

[Alexandra] It's really important because I mean,

that's what we're making a garment out of

and we can't find it.

Well, what do we do?

[Nora] I don't know.

He's gonna have to drape us a new one

or help us find it.

I don't know what to do.

[Kevin] I was gone for like 15, 20 minutes,

I come back down and it was chaos.

You lost the other piece?

-The piece is huge. -I know. I can't--

it disappeared off the face of the Earth.

[Kevin] We lost a pattern piece

and I, kind of, was a little upset.

I didn't yell, I said, "Fine, whatever."

I'm checking if it's stuck to anything.

I told you not to take this off, though.

I know, I'm sorry. But like it fell off,

first of all, when we were cutting it and I freaked out.

Okay. I'm gonna fix this.

Why align it? Yeah.

Just-- don't argue with me.

Okay. That's all I have to know.

This is not the way to do it.

This is not the best way to do it.

It is the fastest way to do it.

Pattern is faster.

Not at 11:00, it's not.

-I know for a fact. -You wanna bet?

[Nora] No. I don't wanna bet, Kevin.

[Kevin] I could've had the skirt already done.

[Nora] I came here to compete

[dramatic music playing]

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway...

With exhaustion comes bitchiness.

That's just so messed up.

And with bitchiness comes anger.

And I think it would be fun to watch.

[Austin] It's about 11:00.

We have about one hour left,

so we do have more work to do.

[Austin] I'm pretty confident that we can do it.

I've got a great team.

Of course, this is gorgeous.

[Kara] Oh, tweezers. Go get, um, Austin's tweezers.

[Vanessa] I was on the machine and the needle, uh, snapped

and went straight through my finger

and I had about half a needle stuck in my finger.

It's not a small amount. It's like half an inch.

Here, the tweezers.

[scissors snipping rapidly]

No, no, no.

-No, stop. -Go away.

Leave the room, please.

I've done this before, please.

She's fine. You're the one bugging out.

Relax yourself.

[Rob] I come over to Austin,

I'm like, "Austin, you know, you're-- Vanessa's in trouble,

we need help, do you have tweezers?"

And he's like, "Ah!"

[Austin] Robert was being, sort of, clumsy and in the way,

um, so I was just freaking out

and I guess I pushed him.

Austin's like, "Rob, just leave the room now."

I look at him and I just-- and I started laughing in a way.

I'm like, "What?" You know, I didn't wanna make a scene

on top of a scene.

But just telling Austin don't ever push me again.

I didn't feel that it was like a violent attack.

I will b*tch slap him, so...

Even though I am a lot bigger and stronger than him.

[Nora] He's just been in and out

and he's been fumbling over things

and just kind of, like, being very strange to me.

And I really think he's [bleep] with me.

I have-- I have my eye on him.

[Nora] Kevin.

-All right. I'm sorry. -It's okay.

It's just that when we lost that corset piece,

we started to freak.

[whispering] I don't think I lost it. I think it was taken.

-[Kevin] Really? -I do.

[Kara] All of a sudden,

it's like someone stole my pattern piece.

It's automatically--

no one ever thinks, "I just misplaced something."

-[Kevin] But it's not gonna stop us. -They can steal our [bleep],

but they can't stop us.

[Kevin] Cheers.

[Nora] We're just gonna drape a new piece.

So you can steal all you want.

[laughing]

I'm just going to keep going.

So that's that.

[Kara] If I was missing a pattern piece,

I would have made another one and kept on going.

[Nora] We have 15 minutes,

do you really think that we can pull it off?

[Vanessa] To act like somebody's stolen it

or whatever,

I mean, it's just like being in a total nut farm.

[Jay] I can't think.

[Vanessa] I responded to the stealing of the fabric by singing.

♪ I cannot carry on Without my friend ♪

I thought it was just absolutely perfect.

[Vanessa] ♪ I can sew ♪

b*tch is gonna get stabbed. [chuckles]

What really got me was when Vanessa just decided to, like,

burst into the room.

You know, it's like if you were in this situation,

you wouldn't want to be hearing a Broadway show about it.

[Kevin snickers]

Kara Saun, I never accused everyone.

I never said anything about you or anybody else.

I mean, if it was me

expressing it against any of you,

you would have heard it through my mouth.

People are just very paranoid

and thinking that other people are sabotaging them.

[Austin] She did accuse everyone of stealing it.

And then Kara Saun like called her on it.

[suspenseful music playing]

[sobbing] I'm so upset that they would ever think that.

That really, really bothers me.

If they don't hear it my mouth, why would they ever think that?

That's just so messed up.

But I never pointed a finger at any of them.

-I don't understand why. -As your-- as your roommate

and your friend, just chill out and relax. Okay?

-I don't understand why... -Because you--

...Kara Saun had to say that to me.

I never expressed that feeling.

And maybe I shouldn't have.

[Kara] I just think that there's been a lot of accusing

of missing things going on.

And I'm not saying that you were accusing me...

-No. It's just a lot. -...personally.

[Nora] I wanna go home.

-[Kevin] Maybe... -I'm too good for this. I'm sorry.

[Kevin] I don't know. I don't think she's really grown up yet.

She was bawling.

She was bawling hard.

People had to come over and hold her.

And I think it wasted

probably the good solid three hours of work.

[Nora] The meltdown was good in a way

and it might sound, kind of, bizarre

but, like, once I had it, I was just, like, boom.

Let's just do this.

[upbeat music playing]

-Good night, kids. -[Nora] Good night.

[Austin] Good night, dress.

[upbeat music playing]

[Austin] This time it's gonna be tricky

because we were, sort of, working as a group.

[Alexandra] We don't know how they're gonna eliminate someone.

Is it, like, the designer or is it the losing team?

It's, kind of, perplexing.

[Nora] I think that I'm gonna be going home today.

I just have this feeling that the leader of the team

is gonna be able to fire somebody

and although I saved Kevin's a*s by making him do work.

I mean, I had to psych out a little bit last night.

It was the only way to get through.

I bet you $10

if I get eliminated today,

not one tear.

[Tim] Good morning, everybody!

[all] Good morning, Tim.

Can I ask you to gather round?

I heard a report about last night.

And I just wanna ensure that the behavior on the runway

is as professional as possible.

So, you have two hours to work and to get ready, okay?

-[Nora] Thank you, Tim. -Carry on.

-[Austin] Thank you. -Thanks.

So, we had a really fun time last night.

That's why we're all in good mood.

Finally doing just, like, the last stitch

before the dress is together.

Now, it's just a matter of sort of final,

sort of, little, um, adjustments.

Here, look.

I don't want you to get cross with me

but I'm sewing down this thing at the back.

-What? No. -Not?

No, no, no, no, no, no.

But it would hold it, Austin.

I don't care if it holds the whole bow,

then the bow needs to be free and loose.

Wow.

Tell me about it, Kara Saun.

This is a work of art in itself.

[Tim] Incredible.

How nice?

Now you wanted some red and some dreadlocks and...

-Yeah. Uh-hmm. Yeah. -...stuff like that?

[Vanessa] Austin and I and Wendy's team

had the option of using three really good great girls

and we went with Morgan.

[Jay] She's been difficult

and dramatic and moody and crazy.

[chuckles] That's Morgan.

Okay.

Morgan's crying about something.

Where are we going?

[Austin] No.

Um, I don't know she could be upset about.

Austin gets overdramatic very easily.

I guess it's, like, the flamboyance in him.

-[Austin] Hey, darling. -Hi.

Tell me what is up.

We wanted the red hair look because that's Sarah's look.

[Morgan] But the only thing is I was booked as a blonde for next week.

[Jay] She's just crazy.

You know, like, why work with her?

We decided, first she said okay because she's a great model.

She's willing to work with us.

Then we decided, no, she didn't want to.

Red is a look for the final look.

[Vanessa] Okay.

-No, Morgan. You rock! -Whoa! [laughs]

[upbeat music playing]

[Austin] It looks great. It looks great.

[Vanessa] All right. So, how is it--

[Austin] Well, I think it looks really pretty on you.

The strawberry.

I love you.

She's gonna be beautiful no matter what.

-[Morgan] Okay. Love you. -[sighs]

[Rob] I'm concerned about Austin right now,

because he starts, you know,

kind of, like, stressing out a lot.

[Austin] This stress level is, kind of, escalating.

I couldn't breathe for three hours

because I was just, like,

"Oh, my God, are you gonna hold together?"

You do feel the temperature rising.

Why is it stopping, like, at every [bleep] floor?

[grunting]

[Jay] People are exhausted.

And with exhaustion comes bitchiness,

and with bitchiness comes anger,

and anger comes fists in the air

and hair flying and all that good stuff.

And I think, "Yeah, bring it on."

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway...

We didn't know that when we were choosing.

I don't think I can decide that.

This challenge was about collaboration.

And we will be judging you on that.

We will be scoring you based on how well

your team worked together.

Your assignment was to create a new look,

head-to-toe for Sarah.

Keep in mind that you'll be judged on your outfit

and how well you used the hair and makeup product

to complete the look.

For this week's challenge, you worked in teams.

Each team had a team leader that was chosen by Sarah.

The winner of this challenge

will be one of the team leaders.

That means the only three that can win this challenge tonight

are Austin,

Kevin,

or Jay.

Anyone can be eliminated

and you'll find out how after the runway show.

Let's start the show.

[Austin] It's a glorious masterpiece of design.

It just worked out. I've got my dream team.

And we've been doing a dream job, I think.

[Sarah] ♪ I'm having Stupid suicidal thoughts ♪

[Wendy] I don't know whether I feel that

Austin's design is a strong one today for Sarah.

However, she responded to it.

So, I'm gonna suspend judgment

because she chose Austin, not me.

[Sarah] ♪ I'm a girl on the Verge of a major meltdown ♪

♪ I may be all freaked out And confused ♪

♪ But I still wouldn't Wanna be you ♪

[Kevin] The beauty about this competition

is that it's really about the look.

Rock and roll, it can be tattered and still be very cool.

[Nora] It looked great up there.

I mean, I don't even know how but it looked great.

[Sarah] ♪ Congratulations ♪

♪ I'm your creation ♪

♪ Well, how 'bout that? ♪

♪ You better lock your doors 'Cause the b*tch is back ♪

[Jay] I thought it was really hot and weird.

And it really, kind of, screamd the power of rock and roll.

[Sarah] ♪ I'm all messed up, Baby, all 'cause of you ♪

♪ I'm in too deep ♪

[Kara] The dynamics between me, Rob, and Jay were great.

We worked well together.

It's really working with Jay.

[Heidi] We've tallied your scores.

I wanna ask all the designers

to please step up onto the runway.

Jay, please step forward.

Robert, please step forward.

Kara Saun, please step forward.

None of you have won but none of you are out.

Your work has qualified you to stay in for the next round.

Please leave the runway.

You represent the best and the worst.

Let's bring out your models.

I want each team leader to please talk a little bit

about your design.

Do you want to start, Kevin?

Sure.

Uh, some sexy Edwardian rock star,

very free-minded, very Sarah, I thought.

[Heidi] Okay. Austin.

[Austin] So, I came up with a few different ideas.

One was more of a sort of very 18th Century princess

and also, sort of, this young little girl

who sort of an outgrown the nursery, uh, type idea.

So, I tried to sort of combine the two elements of both.

I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

And this challenge was about teamwork.

Michael, I want you to explain a little bit about

how leadership but also the teamwork works.

[Michael] When I first started, I worked all by myself.

But the bigger you get and the more that you do,

you really have no choice to figure out the best team.

And there's always gonna be the weak link.

And if you're gonna push forward and you're gonna be successful,

you're gonna have to weed it out.

You have no choice.

It's just the reality that it'll be part of your designing life.

We wanna find out who helped and who didn't.

This challenge was about teamwork.

And we will be judging you on that.

Now, I want you to go down the line and tell the judges

who in your team should be in and who should be out.

Wow.

Oh, my God.

We didn't know that when we were choosing.

I know that you didn't know that then

but I ask you that now.

That is just the most horrible decision I could possibly make.

[shakily] I just love them both so much.

Hmm.

I don't think I can decide that.

I'd rather just leave myself.

[dramatic music playing]

This is awful.

This is absolutely awful.

[Heidi] Sarah will select the winning dress.

Everyone else is up for elimination.

Now, we want each of you to say

who from your team should be eliminated.

We will go down the line.

We can start with you, Nora.

Okay.

Um, I felt that I had to help Kevin along with just,

kind of, getting everything ex*cuted in time.

I was constantly looking up at the clock.

It was ironic that she-- sold me out

as time management when she's the one that slowed it down.

Alexandra, who on your team should be out?

I don't really think anybody should be out.

I know that that's not a good answer but...

Well, but if you had choose.

I agreed with Nora.

Hey, we lost a part

for over three hours.

-That's not pretty. -[Kevin] Five hours.

Nora was crying almost the whole entire time.

And I hate to say that but...

So, you're saying she totally flipped out on you, basically?

[Nora] I have to say that the experience

of getting frazzled psyched me up to keep going.

But in a bad way, not in a good way?

It was, uh, really just crying, crying,

crying, crying and complaining.

I would say Nora for that.

He just told them that I cried the entire time

and I was incapable of doing any work.

And all this other bull [bleep]. That was so frustrating.

Okay. Let's go to Austin's team.

Why don't we start with Wendy?

Who on your team should be out?

I did feel that Austin could've done

a better job with leadership.

That's complete bull [bleep].

She had never mentioned that I needed to

supply her with more direction or, you know,

she wasn't quite clear on the whole idea.

I was very specific.

Vanessa?

I think, uh, if I was gonna choose anyone,

I think I'd probably choose myself

because I'm the worst sewer.

As soon as that diarrhea came out of my mouth,

I knew I'm [bleep].

You know, I was like, "What the hell did I do that for?"

[Heidi] Austin?

[Austin] Yes.

Well, um, in defense of myself, first of all,

I feel that I was a good leader.

If you have to choose between Wendy and Vanessa?

This is horrible, horrible but, um, it's just a, you know,

simple fact that, uh,

Vanessa is as inspiring and talented as she is,

just isn't as adept in sewing as Wendy and I.

Had she perhaps been a little better, uh, I'm sure,

of course, it would've gone a little bit faster.

Okay. That's it.

We're gonna deliberate.

Sarah, what did you think?

[Sarah] Um, Kevin's was, like to the T.

It was, like, uh, from his sketch to reality.

I think also they really thought about not just an outfit.

Kevin thought about an image.

And I think that, you know, in the music business,

image is a so important piece.

You're wearing your personality.

-[Michael] Totally. -[Heidi] Uh-hmm.

[Sarah] Um, Austin's.

The color wasn't what we talked about.

The hair wasn't what we talked about.

-Actually-- -So, you think he kind of,

he went a little bit on a tangent?

[Michael] To sit and say, "I'm the weak link."

You know, in a really tough industry, you know what?

You've got to figure out a way

to make yourself the strong link.

This is a competition.

I was really a little concerned when Kevin and his team,

when they started talking about the work process.

What went on behind the scenes here?

[Nina] The disappearing fabrics.

There was this long drawing out story.

And I-- and I wanted a straight answer.

[Nora] If you had to make that garments

by yourself yesterday and--

I could've done it faster without you.

-Oh? That's how it is. -[Kevin] Yeah.

To have a good team is everything.

You can't do it all alone.

-[Michael] I mean-- -[Nina] It's unacceptable

that attitude for me.

As always in fashion, you're either in or you're out.

And I want Sarah to choose her design.

The design that I chose...

was Kevin's.

Nora, you cracked under pressure and distracted your team.

To be successful in fashion, you have to be strong,

focused, and in control of your emotions.

So, Nora...

you're in.

You basically took yourself out of this competition.

In this business, it's all about selling yourself.

and that gave us no choice.
