You will be designing

lingerie.

But first, let's bring out

the winning and losing designers' models.

Models...

this also is a competition for you as well.

The model paired with the winner of Project Runway

will get a fashion spread in ELLE magazine.

Nick, you won the last challenge.

And your model is Tarah.

If you decide to stay with her...

Allison will be out.

If you decide not to choose either of these two...

I will bring out all the models

for you to pick from.

Each of you have the next 30 minutes

to develop a presentation

for a lingerie line of three looks.

You will each pitch me your ideas.

And then I will choose four of you

to be team leaders.

The leaders will then pick from the remaining designers

to make teams of three.

Each team will work together to execute

the leader's vision.

This challenge is all about vision and execution...

leadership and teamwork.

And when it comes time to be judged on the runway...

one of you could go...

or an entire team could be out.

All right, the 30 minutes start

right now.

[upbeat music playing]

[Nick] We had to sell our idea to Heidi.

Lingerie is something

she knows a lot about, obviously...

because she's been such a famous lingerie model...

bra model with that hot body of hers.

[Daniel F] I didn't wanna just do little flat sketches

or little technical drawings.

I wanted to present an impression.

[upbeat music playing]

[Tim] All right, this is the end of your 30 minutes.

So all sketchbooks have to close.

First up is Daniel V.

-[designer] Oh. -[Tim] So go out...

and sell her.

What I'm looking at here

is menswear on women.

I like the idea

of an ex-girlfriend taking revenge

on her boyfriend.

Like they're leaving him...

and they did this with his stuff.

And I'm very influenced by superheroes.

And so I wanted to have panties with, like...

What I have is a group which I call

Tie Me Up...

Exactly.

It's like a slip dress that you can wear to bed...

or you can wear with jeans and T-shirts

also and go out with it.

It's very pretty.

inspired by you.

And it could say guten tag on the front.

of romantic setting

for, like, say, fiances or newlyweds

where it's, uh, more lovemaking than something

like sexy and trashy and...

I just don't think it's appropriate to wear.

[Diana] I feel like you just can't be that picky

if you're a model, because

your job is to achieve different looks.

And if you don't want to do that...

then you should probably get a different job.

The other girls are all okay with it.

And so, is she always like that?

Well, like she doesn't like her hair pulled on top,

she doesn't like...

I don't want to work with someone so disagreeable.

You know, working with you guys is so nice.

[Daniel V.] We have three great models.

Great walks, great bodies.

So I was really excited when we finally had the chance

to put them in the garments.

[Santino] I want the three girls to look like

deers in the face, okay?

She could even have horns or something

coming out of the top.

[Chloe] It's a strong collection.

With all the drama, it looks good,

thanks to our sewing skills.

And I know that, uh, working with me is--is--

-is tough. -[Chloe] A nightmare, uh-huh.

[Daniel F.] But, uh, you know what? There's always a reason.

-It's the passion that counts. -I give it to you. It works.

It's not gonna cover my whole chest,

and I'm not gonna be comfortable,

[Diana] We had to make Cara this giant bun piece.

I was upset about it, because I felt

that it really detracted from the look

of my collection.

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway...

I'm a little disappointed.

It's aesthetically not pleasing.

I think it's supposed to come off, is what I think.

[tense music playing]

Welcome to the runway.

As you know, in fashion, one day you're in...

and the next day, you're out.

Your challenge was to design

a lingerie line of three looks.

This is a test of your team leader's vision...

and your ability to work together

to achieve that vision.

And that's what we're judging tonight.

Let's meet the judges.

Nina Garcia, fashion director of ELLE magazine.

Stepping in for Michael Kors today

is fashion designer Cynthia Rowley.

And fellow Victoria's Secret angel...

Alessandra Ambrosio.

We will be scoring your designs

as they come down the runway.

The team with the highest score will be named the winner.

And this week, anyone could be out.

Okay, let's start the show.

[upbeat music playing]

[Diana] I felt that our collection

was fairly successful.

I tried to sh**t for an in-between

from the super creative and very wearable.

[Guadalupe] The concept is strong.

The color is strong.

It's smooth, it's flowing, and it's cohesive.

[upbeat music playing]

[Marla] I'd like to think that we have a good chance

that we won't lose.

'Cause I think the concept is pretty innovative.

[upbeat music playing]

[Santino] What I'm showing on the runway

I'm happy about.

I think overall, I'm getting across

the Germanic look that I was going for

with these pieces.

[Nick] I was actually proud

to be part of that collection.

I actually was looking at it...

and I thought, it's kinda hot.

[Emmett] I think Santino embellished

to the point where it wasn't delicate

and sexy any longer.

It was vaudeville.

[Santino] When I was watching the lingerie

come down the runway...

I could see in the judges' faces

they weren't amused.

They just didn't get it.

[upbeat music playing]

[Daniel V.] I wasn't completely satisfied.

I think no matter what...

there's always something where you can work on.

[Andrae] I think

the work that Daniel got us to do

really made sense as lingerie.

These were things that

you actually could use as undergarments.

[Zulema] Ours looks the most like lingerie.

But there were so many people with elaborate garments...

I actually got concerned.

[upbeat music playing]

[Daniel F.] When it came down the runway,

I felt really proud, and so did my teammates.

Chloe and Kara kept putting a lot of extra work

into the clothes that I never imagined, you know,

another designer would do for another designer.

[Kara] I mean, they look beautiful.

But it's unfortunate

that the silhouettes

weren't thought out more.

[Chloe] At the end of the whole drama

of getting it done...

I thought we did a beautiful collection.

It wasn't the most creative thing...

but I was proud it was actually sewn correctly.

[tense music playing]

[Heidi] Designers, we've tallied your scores.

Please step onto the runway.

[tense music playing]

Daniel Vosovic's team, please step forward.

We're doing things a little differently today.

Daniel...surprise.

You won this challenge.

[cheering]

[Heidi] Your scores were much higher

than the other teams.

Congratulations.

You three can leave the runway.

Thank you.

[Daniel V.] I was so excited

and so pleased that we pulled this one

out of I don't even know where.

But I was so happy. My whole group was.

Diana's team, please step forward.

[tense music playing]

[Heidi] Your scores qualified you

to move on to the next challenge.

[Marla] Thank you.

Santino's team...

And Daniel Franco's team

had the lowest scores.

Let's bring out the models.

[upbeat music playing]

[Heidi] Santino, I'm gonna start with you.

Nina.

I'm a little disappointed.

Really? Okay.

[Nina] But first I'll ask you

why did you pick

this theme?

It's not your run-of-the-mill

lingerie.

When I think of lingerie, I think it needs

to be sophisticated.

It needs to have very close attention to detail.

And what I feel here is that you have

so much.

[Heidi] There's a lot of things going on.

And it's kind of like, you're like--

You know, you don't really know on what to focus on.

[clears throat]

If they were mixed with things that were

more wearable, it might be just

a little bit more understandable.

But that's not my vision...

and that's not what I was trying to present.

It's aesthetically not pleasing.

[Santino] I think lingerie is sexy

and I think it's supposed to come off

is what I think.

[Nina] Yes, and it's supposed to be delicate.

And It's made out of lace and pleats

and beautiful satins.

That's already been done.

And that's not what I'm trying to do.

This has been done too.

No. Tell me, who?

-Tell me. -Ah, please.

Name names, tell me! Who's--

who have you seen do this?

-This could be Galliano. -[Santino] Maybe.

[Nina] This could be McQueen.

This could be so many people.

This came organically.

[Santino] I'm not copying anyone.

[Nina] It looks not well-made.

[Santino] I'm sorry.

I'm sorry, Nina.

I want to ask Nick what he thinks.

I totally understood, uh, Santino's vision.

'Cause I know where he's coming from.

[Heidi] Emmett, do you think it's too much?

[Emmett] It's, uh--

I--yes, I think it's too much.

[Heidi] I want to ask a question to Santino.

If one person in your team would have to be out...

who would it be?

Emmett designs menswear.

And he designs

in a way that has never suited me.

So are you saying it would be Emmett?

Yeah. I am.

Nick, I want to ask you the same question.

If you are asking me to make a choice...

um, it would be Emmett.

Emmett, who would you choose?

I would choose Santino.

Because at the eleventh hour, Santino had

a meltdown and Nick and I had to

hold the team together.

And I think that in a team...

that the leader should take responsibility

for the entire team.

And if it doesn't work out...

don't blame your team members.

Okay. Daniel Franco.

Heidi.

Alessandra, do you want to ask Daniel?

[Alessandra] Um...

it looks a little bit old

like old woman

would wear this kind of lingerie.

Did you think on, like, young girls

what they like to wear?

[Daniel F.] My focus was, of course...

newlyweds or, uh, fiancés...

uh, people that are 30 maybe to 50.

Uh, I wanted to give something sophisticated

to, uh, to their lives.

I'm just curious why they have

to be so similar.

You are a designer.

You know, I don't want to see three versions

-of the same dress. -Well...

And you're three people.

-Chloe. -We gave input,

but at the end of the day...

it was his vision, and we

had to follow it, pretty much.

I feel like it might have been helpful

to have your teammates'

inspiration to make the looks a little bit

more diversified.

[Kara] It was very difficult, because

Daniel is very headstrong in the way

he wants this thing to look.

If there's one person you would have to choose

to be out, it would be Daniel?

[Daniel] Uh, I'd like to make

a statement about that.

That, um...

[sighs]

Never before have I seen

anyone [bleep].

That's worked as passionately

than these two.

And I told them

if it goes down that I have to go...

I go, I don't sell them out.

I'll take the blame.

-Damn! -[designer] [indistinct]

Damn! I can't believe it.

[Heidi] Okay, we heard what you had to say.

You can leave the runway.

The team leader

had a much harder spot to be in

than all the other designers.

Because really, quite frankly...

their booty was on the line

much more than all the other ones.

Well, Santino looked costumey.

[Alessandra] I don't think he was thinking of the consumer.

He was very fashion, but you want to sell

what you're showing on the runway.

When it came down to pointing out

who should leave his team,

he was the team leader,

and he acted a bit as a coward...

selling Emmett.

You can't have the ego to be the leader

and not have the responsibility--

To take the blame.

But on the other hand, as a designer...

he has more of a vision, and he's more creative.

[Nina] But at the end, who has to go?

It is him.

[Heidi] Why do you think Daniel's vision didn't work?

It was all too similar.

He got the sexy, comfortable...

but he wasn't creative.

He was just so in it that he couldn't

see that all three things looked the same.

At least Daniel owned up to his responsibility.

He said, "If somebody has to go, it will be me."

So we reached our decision?

Let's bring back our designers.

[tense music playing]

Santino's team...

and Daniel's team

This challenge was about vision and execution...

leadership and teamwork.

And we did not see that from either team.

We do believe in your talent.

And we also do respect that you stand by your vision.

But your collection

was too safe.

We respect your creativity.

But none of us liked your collection.

And it was also cowardly

to blame Emmett.

Santino.

[Heidi] You can leave the runway.

That means, Daniel, you are out.

We never really got to know

the Daniel in Project Runway 1...

and now I feel like I did a little bit.

And I wish you could've stayed longer.

I really do.

I'm a designer

that really cares about principles...

about ethics, dignity, respect.

And that's something that, that hopefully

I've demonstrated and I hope to do more of.
