[Laura] There is some serious ugly

in this room right now.

[Alison] And it just started to look awful.

[techno music playing]

And now for the winner.

Michael, another win for you.

Yes, thank you so much.

[Heidi] Alison, you're out.

The winner of Project Runway will receive

a spread in ELLE magazine,

a mentorship with INC International Concepts Design,

a 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster,

and $100,000 to start their own line,

This is Project Runway.

Fashion is my life.

I'm going to win.

[Heidi] Fifteen contestants.

I'm fabulously glamorous.

I've got mad skills.

But only one can be the winner.

I'm better than they are.

You gotta be kidding me.

For these 15 contestants,

Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.

[Jeffrey] Alison was eliminated yesterday,

and it was a huge blow.

To me especially, that's obvious.

She was my best friend here.

Whatever. It's not summer camp.

Take your time. You're the winner.

You're entitled one day

-of indulging your winnings. -I am.

I'm the first double winner for Season Three.

I was amazed.

It was really, really, really cool.

I could not stop grinning.

I actually grinned myself a headache.

Let's motor.

-Hello. -Hi, Heidi.

[Heidi] Are you ready for your next challenge?

-Yes. -Absolutely.

For your next challenge, you will be designing an outfit

for the everyday woman.

There's more.

But first,

let's bring out your models.

So the models come out

and off the bat, from the silhouette,

we noticed that they weren't our normal models.

[gasp] Oh, my God!

[laughs]

Oh, my...

Mom!

My first impression was

they just grabbed people off the street.

Then I saw my mom, and I was, like,

Mmm...totally gone.

[Robert] My sister lives in England.

And I thought, "They flew her from England?"

Does she know the kind of humiliation

she's gonna be in for?

[Laura] I just burst into tears right away.

Challenges, and the pressure, and there's my mother

standing on the stage next to Heidi Klum.

And I just started to cry.

-That's my mom. -Hey--

No frickin' way.

I thought she'd have a mohawk!

[laughing]

Surprised?

[designers] Yeah.

[Heidi] Okay, ladies,

why don't you introduce yourselves?

My name is Judy, and I'm Kayne's mom.

My name is Darlene, and Angela

is my delightful daughter.

My name is Patricia, and Vincent is my brother.

My name is Pamela and Michael is my son.

My name is Teresa and I'm Robert's sister.

My name is Pam and I'm Jeffrey's mom.

I am Heidi, Uli's mom.

I'm Lorraine, Laura's proud mom.

Okay, these are the everyday women

that you will be designing for.

And they will be

your models for this challenge.

Each of you must choose

one of them to design for.

But you cannot pick your own mom.

-Oh... -[Heidi] Or sister.

Wah wah. [laughing]

[Heidi] Michael,

you won the last challenge,

so you get to pick first.

Well, since I can't design

for my gorgeous mother,

I'm gonna choose Teresa to design for.

[Heidi] Okay, I'm going to draw your names

out of this bag to see who picks next.

Laura.

I'm gonna-- I'm gonna choose Jeff's mom.

Just to t*rture Jeff.

-No. -[laughing]

Vincent.

I'm gonna pick Uli's mother.

Angela.

I'd like to choose Laura's mom.

[Heidi] Kayne.

Michael's lovely mother.

Uli.

Um, Kayne's mom?

Is that--Kayne's mom.

Good choice.

[Heidi] Robert.

I would love to work with Vincent's sister.

Last, but not least, Jeffrey.

Angela's mother.

I ended up with Angela's mom

because I think God got drunk today.

[chuckling] That's what I think.

You're gonna have fun.

[Heidi] Okay, you have your new models.

Tim will fill you in

on the details in the workroom.

[Jeffrey] Hi, Mom.

-How's it going? -[laughing]

Are you excited?

[both speaking German]

I was surprised and happy,

and I think I started crying.

And she started crying.

I haven't seen my mom for a year,

so that was pretty amazing.

-I like the hot pink. -Yeah.

It was just really good to see my mom.

From the very beginning, she's always believed in me.

I'm a momma's boy.

I--I must admit.

Designers, moms, sisters,

may I have your attention, please?

I have a surprise.

[nervous laughter]

[Tim] You have been invited to a special event

being hosted by our special guest judge

for this challenge.

And we're going now.

[cheering]

[Tim] So follow me.

[upbeat music playing]

Welcome.

Michael Kors.

Hello, welcome to Tavern on the Green.

-[designer] Thank you. -I'm Joan Kors,

Michael's mother.

And I'm your celebrity judge for this challenge.

-Wow. -Nice to meet you.

[Michael Knight] I could really tell that that was his mom.

They definitely have a resemblance.

I can tell he's definitely a momma's boy, too.

I think this is gonna be so great

because my mom has always been a huge influence

on how I think about how people get dressed.

Sometimes she tells me I'm losing my mind.

[laughter]

So I'm gonna crack open some champagne,

and I can't wait to see what you guys are all gonna do.

-[pop] -[cheering]

Fabulous.

This is him and his sister.

[Michael Kors] Oh, my God.

[Robert] Oh...my...

-Shut up. -[laughter]

Sometimes the past needs to stay in the past.

I've told everyone here

I was a very fat, funny kid.

And my mother decided to bring

fat and funny pictures from my past.

[Michael Kors] That's adorable!

That's not embarrassing.

[hysterical laughter]

[Michael Kors] Oh, my God!

[Pam] Braces and all.

Jeffrey's been through a lot.

He's a recovering alcoholic,

and has become successful.

[choking up] I'm so proud of him.

He's just really...

If I had thought back five, six years from now

that I would be sitting here today...

I just can't believe what he's done with his life.

It's just amazing.

These are all, like, clothes that my mother sewed for me.

[Michael Kors] Since I'm an only child,

you're an only child,

you're kind of mom's companion shopping

and that's how your fashion thing happens.

You realize she has five children.

-Yep, working on six. -No.

[Joan] Oh, she didn't know?

-No. -No.

No, I really didn't know this.

[Joan] Grandma times-- Grandma times six.

So this has kind of been

a total surprise weekend for everybody, right?

I only discovered that I was pregnant since I've been here.

And so, I accidentally told my mother.

That was grade-A stupid of me.

I haven't even told my husband.

Can you imagine?

Everyone knows but my husband.

Yeah, surprise, Mom.

Uh, how long have you known this?

Not--not very long.

[Lorraine laughing] I was very shocked.

Uh, but that's Laura.

Congratulations.

Thank you, I think. [laughing]

Designers,

moms, sisters, can I have your attention?

We are going

back to the workroom, all right?

Michael and Joan,

[designer] Okay.

[Vincent] This is gonna be, um, a fun challenge,

but I also can tell you it's gonna be

a make you or break you challenge.

There's gonna be little, secret, hidden things in this one.

[Tim] Designers, as Heidi said, you are creating a look

for an everyday woman.

This is a look that should fit

the day-to-day lifestyle

of your new client.

At the same time, it should be fashion forward

and reflect who you are as a designer.

You will have 30 minutes to meet with your client

and develop your design ideas.

And you have one day

to complete this look.

-[grumbling] -[Robert] Dear Jesus.

Sweet Jesus.

[Tim] So make it work.

And I will see you in 30 minutes.

[Michael Knight] Okay.

[Robert] I like how your skirt has the vents.

-We can do, like-- -Uh-huh, I like that too.

Really long vents on your jacket as well.

Everyone's a little freaked out because

when you're dealing with normal women,

it's not just an ideal model size.

I really like the, um, the kimono thing.

Okay, I do too then. No, I'm all for that.

And I also told her, well, you know,

I'm kind of fighting this whole boring perception,

so I'm gonna put you in head to toe zebra print.

With a sign that says "Stop picking on Robert."

As long as you're cool with that.

So you said you like V-necks?

Lorraine, Laura's mom and I,

sketched out two simple ideas that I had.

She said that she was going for casual elegance.

And she said, like, Audrey Hepburn-ish.

And I was, like, oh, my gosh.

'Cause I just did that Audrey Hepburn dress

two challenges ago.

We can just play with it.

I'm open to anything...

you feel is good.

I would like Laura to win.

[laughing]

Um, but I certainly would do nothing

to hinder Angela from winning.

That's exactly what I'm thinking.

Trying to think of something fun and cute

that--something that's not gonna look totally

like you could go out and buy it.

-Do you know what I mean? -Uh-huh.

Michael's mother Pamela, she's not a size 2.

She's not even a size 10, but she's gorgeous.

Maybe even, like, rhinestone buttons.

I was gonna say, rhinestone buttons.

-Love it! -[laughing]

[Vincent] You're proportioned beautifully.

-Yeah? -It's beautiful.

Uli's mom has this European air about her.

And, uh, she's a stylish woman.

[thick German accent] Okay, I would wear this.

-You would wear this. -This I would wear.

I did something very simple for her.

Straight little dress with a nice lapel,

modernized a little bit.

I suggested black and tan.

It seemed to be right for her.

-You like it? -I like it.

-[laughing] -Done.

-Okay, that's it. -Already?

Yeah, we're finished.

[speaking German]

So...

-Perfect, perfect. -Good.

I don't speak German at all, you know?

But she knows well enough

what I'm trying to get across.

It's not bad.

Look, we've had models in here.

-Really? -Yeah.

Oh, well, that makes me feel good.

[laughing]

I gotta tell you, especially after coming home from a cruise.

-Oh, yeah. -I have not eaten for four days.

-Where all they do is feed you. -Yes.

I haven't eaten for four days.

I love the whole cruise ship thing.

We decided to do sort of a cruise wear type of outfit.

Her favorite colors were sort of

sea foam green and cobalt blue.

Structured skirt with a nice slit.

I think that's great that you're willing to do that.

I wonder what Jeff's designing so elaborate over there.

-I'm sure he's gonna-- -I just hope

he keeps her in mind.

You know what? For the bustline

-and everything-- -Yeah.

--you usually need to add a little bit extra.

Oh, yeah, yeah.

I'm just gonna get your true measurement...

[Darlene] In my case, I'm very traditional.

And the designer that I have

stands out in a crowd.

So we are combined.

So we are the challenge.

For me, because of my size,

I think the simplicity

of a long dress...

I like color. I like deep purple,

or deep green.

We're gonna choose some darker colors, so...

This is so far out of my realm

to be making this dress

for a lady this size, you know.

I just don't do it. I haven't done it.

Like, a real striking jacket.

Oh, I don't like that idea. I don't like that idea.

With one day, I don't know

that I want to tailor a jacket.

-Okay, uh-huh. -Do you know?

What else were you thinking? What else were you gonna say?

Umm...

[Tim] Designers--

One day goes fast.

Your 30 minutes is up.

We are going shopping.

I feel bad. You know,

I just feel like I want to cry.

I feel like maybe I'm limiting you.

[Jeffrey] I don't know what I'm going to come up with,

but I sure hope I just come up with enough.

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway...

We're using all these colors at once?

-Jeffrey-- -I'm just being honest with you.

-I'm being honest with you. -When I was asked my opinion...

I don't appreciate you even standing here.

How does that sound?

[Kayne] This challenge, we're going to be designing

an outfit for the everyday woman:

Our moms.

But for someone's mother other than our own.

[upbeat music playing]

[Robert] When I had asked Vincent's sister Patricia

what her favorite colors were, she said red and black.

I was like, oh, God, here I go again

with boring colors. Huh.

[Uli] For Kayne's mom,

I went back to my favorite thing,

a print, just to slim her down.

This is bull[bleep].

I decided to make Angela's mom a long dress.

And she said she liked dark purple and dark green.

But my selection for dark greens was nil.

So I found a really beautiful periwinkle

that I'm going to use to accent

purple and the navy blue, which is perfect.

You guys are so good to me. Thank you so much.

Off we go.

[rock music playing]

There's some really, really stumped designers in that room.

Especially the designers with the larger women,

who have just never done anything like this before,

kinda have no idea how to depart from the basic

muumuu dress with a little colorful jacket on top.

The way it's probably gonna end up looking,

I'm telling you, I will be going home.

[Robert] I don't understand proportion on this kind of body.

[Jeffrey] I know, me neither.

I'm scared of this. I don't know what to do.

I'm so scared.

[Vincent] People felt uncomfortable

with this challenge because they like to dress

beautiful, lean models

that have perfect 25-inch waists.

You have to be able to compensate

and deliver to real women

because these are the people that wear your clothes.

[Michael Knight] The piece that I was gonna do

for Robert's sister was a really sexy shirtdress.

And then I got the idea to make a reversible dress.

I thought that would be great for the everyday woman.

[upbeat music playing]

Well, these are damn cute.

Designers?

Your models are eager to check in on your progress.

So I'm sending them in.

[chattering]

The best part is this.

That's nice.

-That's good that you're here. -I like this.

It's a little more alive, right?

Yeah, I like that.

[Uli] I have never designed for, like, a fuller woman.

I wanted to have something floaty.

And I put the stripes here to elongate her body.

Stay, stay, stay, stay.

Stay like that.

Yes, I stay.

I already know

that I'm gonna make her feel really good.

And I think that she knows that too

'cause she's very, very comfortable with me.

In spirit.

-Right? -I don't understand anything.

Oh, you don't-- Oh, that's okay.

-This with black? -Uh-huh.

I think this is a little too much color for me.

Okay.

You're lucky to have a client with a point of view.

Right.

You need to deliver to Lorraine,

and you still need to be you.

[Lorraine] I think maybe I might have intimidated Angela

just a little bit

because when it comes to the clothes

and the type I like,

I do have strong opinions.

What's he doing for you?

Well, this is gonna be my dress.

It's--it's gonna be a long dress.

And are you happy with the decisions?

Um, you know, I'm just concerned

that the colors are matronly,

and I try to avoid that.

And I have never worn blue.

-Really? -I have never worn powder blue.

So it's like a shock to me.

All right. Did you tell him

you're disappointed in the color?

No, he doesn't know.

So this-- but this is not where

you were expecting it to go, clearly.

No. No.

Okay.

Tim, I didn't know you were already at my station.

Huh? No, I--

I took advantage of talking to Darlene without you.

-Uh-oh. -[laughing]

-And what-- -So I wanted to hear

-what our client had to say. -What did Darlene have to say?

She's a little ambivalent about the color.

Are you talking about this color in particular?

Yeah.

Because the colors that Darlene gave me

were dark purple, which we have.

And dark green, which didn't look good together.

Half the time is gone,

and Angela's mom started telling Tim

that she doesn't like the dress that I'm making for her.

-Okay. Carry on. -Yes.

She was just completely setting me up.

I'm gonna make the dress I'm gonna make.

I hope you like it. If you don't like it,

there's not a thing I can do about that.

I only hope the judges like it.

Well, then, if it's not what I expected,

why am I being treated like this?

I don't appreciate you even standing here.

Do you talk to everybody like this?

How am I treating you?

You explain to me how I'm treating you.

-Jeffrey-- -I'm just being honest with you.

-When I was asked my opinion-- -I'm being honest with you.

If you were standing right there,

I would have said the exact same thing.

You know when I walked in here

I couldn't get excited.

You have great ideas.

You are so talented.

But I know what works for me.

Maybe other people find things about you

that are beautiful that you don't find in yourself

because of your insecurities.

How does that sound?

I think if you have your own taste in clothes

doesn't mean you're insecure.

Excuse me.

[Jeffrey] I just let her know I didn't appreciate it.

You put me in a really horrible situation,

and I don't want to talk to you anymore.

I've got work to do.

That crazy b*tch is in there telling Tim,

"I don't like the colors."

It's very apropos.

I don't get along with her daughter.

Why should I get along with her?

I'm really upset, and I'm really insulted.

[Angela] I know this is really hard for my mom.

And to see her so upset is just--

is the absolute worst thing that could have happened.

And, um...

I just felt like, you a*s.

It's Jeffrey. He's the a*s.

Not me, and not my mom.

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway...

I don't know what is going on.

I'm just not gonna stand for it.

You wanna play your games, play your games.

But I'm not gonna sit here and be nice to you

'cause you're some old lady that can't walk.

[Vincent] You broke her down, what can I tell ya?

I'm just honest with her.

Why should I be nice? You're not being nice.

[Vincent] Jeff is still crybaby-ing

about Angela's mother.

Now, what's happening is

you're seeing Jeff's real colors.

I don't know, Jeff, you know?

My advice is to try to make it work.

[Angela] This whole experience is not going well,

and Jeffrey was a complete a*s to my mom.

And my mom was just crying.

And it was awful.

I don't know what all happened.

She was going out of her way to make me look bad

and embarrass me, so...

-[designer] I doubt that. -I'm--

I'm just not gonna stand for it.

I don't know what to say.

She's an unhappy customer.

-That's all. -She's also my mom.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kayne] I'm making three pieces.

I have to hem all of the chiffon of the poncho.

I have to sew together the full pants.

And I have to make her jewelry.

I have so much to do before the end of this night.

[upbeat music playing]

This is looking really good.

[Uli] Michael's gonna do three in a row.

Oh, don't say that.

I'm telling you, if that happens--

-I think that never happened. -I'm going to faint.

[Jeffrey] I did better than I thought, you know.

My--my objective was not to just take

a big square piece of chiffon and cut a hole in it

and call it a poncho like most people did.

[Robert] I may be forgoing a few of the details

that I wanted to do, but...

I didn't love it, but it looked good

and it's what Patricia, Vincent's sister,

had asked for.

I hope it represents who I am as a designer.

[tense music playing]

I need more wine.

You--you're drinking wine now?

-Yeah. -I'm going to bed.

-You're pregnant. -Oh, shut up.

I don't think anybody's really ready

for their sixth child.

But five, six, seven--

It doesn't make that big of a difference.

I'll just throw it on the pile with the other ones.

I'm so tired of hearing about me being pregnant,

for God's sake.

[Michael Knight] The runway show today is gonna be

really, really funny

because I can just see a whole bunch of,

like, modeling, a little bopping along.

I know my mom is gonna try to really turn it out

'cause she is amped.

Good morning, everybody.

Designers, you have an hour and a half

to fit your models,

to send them to the TRESemme hair salon,

and to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room.

And please use the Macy's accessory wall

if it enhances your look.

Right now, I'm sending in your models.

[Robert] Thanks, Tim.

-Hi, gorgeous. -Morning.

-Oh, that's just great. -You know?

See, you can get, like, a little--

We're gonna trim this so it's not so super long.

The models have come in for their fittings,

and they're not real models.

They're our parents and sisters.

And that's enough of a mind[bleep]

to drive anyone crazy.

I'm gonna learn to catwalk, like the models do.

And I'm gonna embarrass Kayne.

Simple, elegant. Casual elegance.

[Laura] Angela's work is very inconsistent.

You never know what she's gonna come up with.

The main pieces of the garment

were way too basic.

The styling of the garment was too eclectic,

but not in a good way.

[Tim] Designers...

Models... The time has come.

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway...

Might be too matchy-matchy.

I mean, this is more Stevie Nicks in black.

-Hello. -[designers] Hi, Heidi.

Welcome to the runway.

As you know, in fashion, one day you're in,

and the next day, you're out.

There are eight of you now, and after tonight,

there will be seven.

It's always important to do your best work.

Because there are other benefits

to winning challenges

that will be revealed later in the competition.

For this challenge, we asked you

to create an outfit for the everyday woman.

Each of you had to pick a fellow designer's

mom or sister

and design a look for her.

Let's meet the judges.

First, we have top American designer Michael Kors.

-Hey, guys. -[designers] Hello.

Nina Garcia, fashion director

of ELLE magazine.

-Hi, everyone. -Hi, Nina.

And our very special guest, Michael's mom, Joan Kors.

Hi there.

We will score your designs as they come down the runway.

One of you will be named the winner.

And one of you will be out.

There will be no immunity for this challenge.

Let's start the show.

[Laura] When I saw my outfit,

I started to get a little nervous.

I saw that it might not be very flattering to her figure.

[Uli] Kayne's mom was really good.

She saw it was flowy, and she saw what it needed,

and she was working that outfit.

I was really pleased. I was really happy.

[Vincent] Heidi looked terrific in the dress.

It was the most heartfelt, heartwarming show

that I have ever, ever been involved in.

[Kayne] I felt really good seeing my outfit

come down the runway.

She really looked confident.

But she didn't smile.

So I was a little afraid that the judges would think

that she was not pleased with her outfit.

[Angela] When I saw my garment,

I was so pleased,

because I loved how the fringe was moving,

and how she had posed.

She just really embodied the spirit

of casual elegance.

[Robert] When I saw my garment coming down the runway,

I wanted her to feel

comfortable, chic, and glamorous.

[Michael Knight] Watching Teresa

come down the runway

was really cool.

She worked the hell out of that dress.

She looked just as good

as some of the models, actually.

[Jeffrey] Angela's mom looked cute.

What I made her was modest, thoughtful,

and it came out in my design.

[dramatic music playing]

[Heidi] We've scored your designs.

And we would like to ask all of you

some questions.

Michael, Kayne,

Vincent,

Uli, and Robert,

we're going to talk to you first.

Okay, let's bring out your models.

Okay, I would like to start with Michael.

Yes.

Who's your model, and what did you guys discuss?

Teresa, um,

who's Robert's sister, is my model.

Immediately, I just thought about a shirtdress.

She seemed like she's a woman on the go,

so I wanted to create something

that can take you from day to night.

The dress is also reversible, so--

-[Heidi] Completely reversible? -Completely.

First I thought it was a little conservative,

but now that you're telling me it's completely reversible,

I love that.

I think the--the top and the neckline

and the sleeves are lovely.

The concept of the shirtdress, super smart.

I think the belt is matronly,

but I think the idea's great.

Uli.

My model is Judy,

and she's Kayne's mom.

And when I met her,

I saw she's, like, energetic

and she loves colors,

and we chose, um, her favorite colors

for the outfit.

And then I put the stripes in here

just to elongate the whole piece again.

It's understated and chic at the same time.

You got the best of both.

The fabric is hanging well.

Plus sizes look better in clothes

that have some drape and some hang.

Is this something that you would wear?

I would wear it when I go out to eat,

or something like that, with my husband.

Oh, I love this outfit.

I thought this was really flattering.

This looks like something Uli would make.

-Yeah, it looks like you. -[Nina] It's very--yes.

But for her.

And I think that's very important.

Kayne.

This lovely lady is Pamela.

She is Michael's mother.

And I really wanted her to have pieces

that she could definitely wear separately.

And together. But still, you know,

kind of have a fun day out and get noticed

with this beautiful print at the top.

I'm not crazy about the matchy...

coral tunic, and then the coral scarf.

It might be too matchy-matchy for me.

I think that Pamela could

look a little hipper, a little groovier.

A little bit of skin here, I think,

would have really been fabulous on her.

You know, there are ways

to sort of trick the eye.

Younger is not a bad word.

[Heidi] Vincent?

Well, I was honored to get Uli's mom, Heidi.

Wonderful woman.

[speaking German]

She loves the dress.

I just wanted to know how she feels in it.

I thought this was wonderful.

I thought it was very appropriate.

It looked right on you, you look comfortable in it.

[Michael Kors] I think that it's a very chic,

sleek dress for an adult.

And I think it's, uh, really good-looking on her.

I was designing for Patricia, Vincent's sister.

She told me she liked black and red

as her favorite colors.

I put her in a black matte jersey tank dress.

And I gave her a kimono-style cardigan

with a little scarf collar attached,

just to sort of glam things up for her.

And that's it.

I think a tank dress was a very easy...

route.

I think, prints-- why not print?

[Heidi] I agree. A print would have been great.

[Nina] You are a designer.

This is a design challenge.

I really felt it was about making her comfortable.

I'm thrilled with this color, because it reminds me

of my favorite childhood dress.

[Heidi] I think it is very nice

that you want to listen to your client,

and you want to make them happy,

but at the end of the day, it has to work, too.

And you should know better.

Because you're the designer, and you know what works

on people and their proportion

to make them look better.

It's a great basic.

But I just think

that she's got personality, and why not show it?

I mean, that's really what I think.

I would like to start with Angela.

Well, Lorraine, Laura's mom, was my model.

And she said that she wanted to go

for a casual elegance, 'cause that's--

she felt that that summed up her style,

and she said, "You know, Audrey Hepburn-ish."

To be honest with you, Angela,

I feel it's almost too young.

It seems age-inappropriate.

I just don't really see Audrey Hepburn at all.

I mean, Audrey Hepburn was about neatness,

crispness.

I mean, this is more Stevie Nicks in black.

Laura.

Well, this is Pam. She's Jeffrey's mother.

And Pam and her husband

are fortunate enough to travel a lot.

They like to take cruises.

So I-I basically tried to take the sailor motif

that you think of for a child,

and sort of make it for a grown-up.

It is made very well.

But I just don't think it is flattering for her.

She looks really short on top

and really long on the bottom.

Would you wear this on a cruise?

I would wear this to dinner.

I find the scarf, the sailor collar,

the sailor buttons, all of it together,

I think is aging.

-Jeffrey. -[Jeffrey] Yes.

Who's your model and what did you guys discuss on?

My model is Darlene, Angela's mother.

And she works at the Salvation Army.

She has for about two years.

-Red Cross. -Oh, the Red Cross.

I'm sorry.

What she was wearing

the two times that we met

was a very layered look, and one of the things

that Darlene really expressed to me

was that she wanted to be covered.

She expressed body consciousness,

and she wanted to be comfortable.

Darlene, how do you like your outfit?

Evidently, Jeff and I are obviously different.

And there was a lot lost in translation.

I feel quite matronly.

If I was in an exclusive department store,

and saw this, I would walk right by.

My objective really was-- really was--

to make Darlene happy, you know?

And, at the same time,

to somehow put my stamp on this.

[Michael Kors] It's very you.

But I think that maybe, you know,

you were trying to please her, but not really.

You had this tension going on.

You were trying to please yourself and please her.

And I think the see-sawing back and forth

you know, ended up with maybe a confused outfit.

[Heidi] I have to say I didn't really love it.

But at least I see your point of view here.

Angela, how do you think your mom looks?

Not attractive.

I think it's embarrassing.

And she found a print

When he explained it,

and he was like, "And it's reversible,"

I was like, "Oh, okay."

I think it was a great-looking dress.

to make something classic

that still felt spirited.

-Interesting. -[Michael Kors] Interesting.

-And it fit her really well. -Yes.

And it's very appropriate for her,

Who do we hate?

Angela.

I think that she's a very classy woman.

And the outfit was just totally wrong for her.

I just thought it was really strange.

She's got energy.

She's got great skin, and all of a sudden,

let's make her look older?

[Joan] I thought it should have been

a tailored, longer pant.

seen in this.

[Heidi] It just seems so easy

just to make a long dress.

[Michael Kors] There was no design in it.

[Joan] It kind of just looked like a sack.

I think his silhouette for her

wasn't a bad idea.

But week after week,

boring, boring, boring,

over and over and over.

This did not look relaxed for a cruise at all.

[Michael Kors] It had, to me, no glamour.

But you do have to say this:

-The tailoring was perfect. -Beautiful.

Pfft.

So much fabric.

I think it was wacky.

I think this lack of communication--

I think just so threw him off.

Excuse me, that looked like

Comme des Garcons goes to the Amish country.

So we've made our decision.
