Post by bunniefuu »

[Heidi] Previously on Project Runway...

For your next challenge, you will be designing

an outfit for a hip,

international jet-setter.

You will be designing this outfit

for yourselves.

[gasps] Yay!

I don't know anybody who's an international jet setter.

To me, that's just really foreign.

[upbeat music playing]

One of you will be out.

But not tonight.

Aw, we're going to Paris!

[laughing]

[Angela] Dreams coming true right now.

[designer] Le Tour Eiffel.

Catherine Malandrino.

Our host judge for this trip.

Wow.

Jeffrey, you are the winner.

[applause]

Kayne, you look ridiculous.

But Angela, you are out.

Au revoir, Angela.

[Heidi] The winner of Project Runway will receive

a spread in ELLE magazine,

a mentorship with INC International Concepts Design,

a 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster,

and $100,000 to start their own line

furnished by TRESemmé Professional Hair Care.

This is Project Runway.

Fashion is my life.

I'm going to win.

[Heidi] Fifteen contestants.

I'm fabulously glamorous.

I've got mad skills.

But only one can be the winner.

I'm better than they are.

You gotta be kidding me.

[laughing]

For these 15 contestants,

Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.

[French accordion music playing]

[Tim] Designers, may we ask you to gather round, please.

Congratulations, Jeffrey.

You have immunity for the next challenge,

and that means you cannot be eliminated.

Are you ready for your next challenge?

-[designers] Yes. -Catherine?

You are in Paris,

capital of fashion,

capital of couture.

You have to make the couture gown.

[Tim] Couture is a term

that we use frequently

to talk about garments that are hand made.

But the only designers who can call themselves

couture designers are those who are licensed

by the government of France.

It can take hundreds of hours for six to eight people

to create a single elaborate gown.

For this challenge, we expect you

to employ couture techniques

in the execution of this look.

That means hand-sewn hems

and embroideries, or beading, that are created

by you, by hand.

There's one more thing...

Catherine?

You will have only two days.

[Vincent] People just didn't know

how we were gonna achieve this.

I mean, a couture gown in what, 20 hours?

I will throw a party

Sunday night.

So Catherine, thank you so very much.

And we will see you in a few days.

[Catherine] Thank you. Au revoir.

I'll see you very soon.

-Bye. -Bye-bye.

So designers, we have had a long journey.

It's time to settle

into the hotel, after which,

I'm taking us all to dinner.

-[cheering] -Okay?

[Kayne] You are in Paris.

I'm in Paris.

[Kayne] I'm in a room with

Jeff, Vincent, and Michael on the top floor.

And it is absolutely incredible.

Wow. Yeah.

[Laura] We were all still getting used to the idea

that we were actually in Paris.

Nice.

[Uli] For me, it was really nice being back in Europe

because it's just so nice to be back home.

[Jeffrey] I'm really excited to be in Paris,

but I'm ecstatic that Angela's gone.

Oh, this is nice.

-[Jeffrey] Hi, Tim. -It's very French.

How thrilling.

You feel at all revived?

[Jeffrey] Revived--no. But refreshed--yes.

[Tim] That's good enough.

[French accordion music]

[Michael Knight] I definitely got inspired

walking the streets of Paris.

It opened my eyes in a whole new way.

-[Tim] This is incredible. -[Jeffrey] Yeah!

[Laura] We walked through the courtyard of the Louvre

and saw the pyramid, which is amazing.

And walked to a great French restaurant.

Here we are.

[Laura] It was sort of our first

relaxing dinner together, instead of grabbing

a quick bite to eat between challenges.

Here's to a successful trip and a successful challenge.

[Kayne] And...

-to Jeffrey's first win. -[designers] Yay!

[Kayne] Cheers!

[upbeat music playing]

[Laura] At this level of competition,

there's always a lot at stake.

You can be sent home when you least expect it.

Because everyone left is the best talent from the group.

-Good morning, everybody. -Oh, hi, Tim.

-You're sketching? -[Vincent] Oh, yeah.

[Tim] Excellent. Well, come with me.

We're gonna have more sketch time

and we're going to go shopping.

The metro system here is so good.

[Jeffrey] Yeah.

[man]

[Jeffrey] I'm a designer.

-[man] Design? -Clothes.

-Clothes. -Clothing.

-Okay. -Yes.

[Jeffrey] This morning, we took a beautiful walk

and continued letting the inspiration of the city

flow through us, which was really, really nice.

So everybody, we're here at Sacré-Coeur.

We're at the very top of Paris.

Look around. Have a good time.

You will have a half-hour to sketch,

and we'll meet back here in a little bit, okay?

[instrumental music playing]

[Michael Knight] I didn't want to be edgy or avant-garde

just because I've never done this type of work before.

[Vincent] I trained in couture dress making.

It just turns me on.

For me to be doing a couture gown in Paris,

it's a definite a dream come true.

This is lace, or possibly beaded lace.

And then a chiffon bottom.

This is couture.

[Tim] Let's go shopping.

[upbeat music playing]

Designers, we are at Reine.

You have an hour to shop.

And you have a budget of 300 euros,

which is 375 U.S. dollars.

But remember, haute couture fabrics are expensive,

so use your budget wisely.

Let's go.

[Laura] To go shopping in a French fabric store

is a little spooky because we were kinda

starting to get comfortable in New York with Mood.

So today, it's like starting over from scratch.

[Uli] I wanted to stick with something I know,

and then go with something I can add on

to make it more couture and actually get it done.

Oh, you're so good.

She knows what I like.

[Tim] You know, it's unexpected and we told you

-to take risks. -Yeah, yeah.

My overall concept with this gown

is happy, joyous, and free.

And my inspiration is the Statue of Liberty.

My objective is to be the first designer on Project Runway

to win a challenge with immunity.

'Cause that hasn't happened yet.

[Tim] Time's up.

[upbeat music playing]

[Jeffrey] Oh, wow.

[Tim] So you have your model card

on your table.

[Jeffrey] Yeah!

[Tim] Remember that you will be refitting

in New York on your model there.

You have until midnight tonight.

Débrouillez-vous.

-[laughter] -Make it work?

[Tim] Figure that out.

[Uli] The new challenge was to design

a couture dress in two days.

We didn't have much time to figure out

what we going to do.

So I just went straight to my fabric and started draping.

And I didn't use any crazy prints

and any crazy colors.

I got pretty plain and simple.

And that's quite something.

[Laura] My basic concept

is to take this sort of prim and proper

idea of a black dress with a white collar and cuffs.

Sort of a very French, sort of belle du jour

classic dress and just trying to really vamp it up.

[Michael Knight] It's gonna be really nice and curvy

and shaped at the bottom.

I'm gonna have a lot of hand sewing to do,

so I tried to keep the base of my dress

really, really simple.

And to do details on top of it.

[upbeat music playing]

I'm gonna love this dress when it's done.

And it's a dress that I would do

for one of my favorite pageant girls.

[Laura] But that's what's gonna get you in trouble, Kayne.

[Kayne] No, no, no. It's not gonna be pageant.

It's going to be very couture-esque.

Kayne definitely has

some Vegas tendencies going on.

He has this gold mesh bodice that he's working on.

It's just starting off right away

looking like a pageant dress again.

[Jeffrey] Sort of the cut and the detail are just real

prom gown looking, not couture at all.

It's gonna be fun.

It's gonna be a miracle if I make this fit

the way I envisioned it in my head.

[Vincent] The pattern will look couture.

The pattern will fall beautifully.

The pattern will look like it's a stunning fit.

That's how I can show

my level of couture.

Vincent is, like, a legend in his own mind.

He spends a lot of time

working on his pattern on the mannequin,

stepping back, admiring his work,

asking us other designers over for what he calls an opinion,

but it's really-- he just wants us

to come admire his work.

-Do you like it too? -I love it.

-Honestly. -Don't just all

-matte reverse, matte reverse. -Just like that.

Thank you so much.

You have that nice kind of scallop thing going.

-Uh-huh. -Can you really pull that off?

Never done it before.

I'll damn sure try.

[upbeat, tense music playing]

[Uli] Okay, guys. Let's go home.

[Michael Knight] I'm not ready to go now.

[upbeat music playing]

[buzzing]

What'd you say?

[buzzing]

[Michael Knight]

[upbeat music playing]

-Hi, everybody. -[designers] Hi, Tim.

So how's Michael?

[sigh] Coming slowly.

Slowly, um...

I've never done anything

with this much detail before.

So I really tried to keep my shape

simple and all my details are gonna be here.

-Worried about the time? -[Michael Knight] Um, yeah.

I am.

-So... -Let me ask this question

about the basic dress right now.

Is it done?

-[Laura] Yes. -Okay.

So you really can commit to working on the collar?

-Absolutely. -How far are you taking it?

Well, it's my... one shot.

Meaning?

It's all I have to offer.

I just think it's gotta be exuberant.

It's all about that, and the dress almost goes away.

Right.

[Tim] How's Kayne?

Good, how are you, sir?

How are you, um,

taking this piece in so far?

[Tim] I want to say this to you in the spirit

of somebody who wants you only to succeed.

This is not working for me.

Seeing all this boning underneath...

-It's not pretty. -Uh-huh.

It worries me.

[Kayne] Tim absolutely hates my dress.

But I'm in love with this dress.

I think this dress is gorgeous.

I hope that once it's finished,

Tim will understand the beauty of this gown,

and I will get to breathe my life into it.

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway...

[Laura] I think poor Kayne is gonna have his head

handed to him on a ridiculous plate tomorrow.

-[Uli] You think so? -Who cares if he gets hurt?

[French accordion music]

You know, to do a couture gown

is something that only, like,

a few people in the world

are even allowed to do. [laughing]

By the French government. [laughing]

That's like saying, "Okay, you have two days.

Make an atom b*mb."

Yeah!

I think poor Kayne is gonna have

his head handed to him

on a ridiculous plate tomorrow.

-[Uli] You think so? -[Laura] Yeah.

I really like him and I feel bad.

And I just...

I just don't want to see him get hurt, that's all.

Who cares if he gets hurt?

No one's gonna buy that,

unless it's Halloween.

[Kayne] Tim hates my dress.

He is really, really scared about the corset top.

But our time is limited,

so I'm just gonna have to do what I can do.

[Laura] I need to make my work

look like it had that couture

thing going on.

And that collar was

where that was gonna happen.

[Vincent] Laura made a Creature of the Black Lagoon dress.

-[Jeffrey] Yeah, I know. -[Vincent] Did you see that

[bleep] collar? It's--it's not right.

It's just-- her dress is horrible.

[Jeffrey] I think it's just gonna be boring.

Laura's confused about what a couture gown is.

Laura only has one thing that she knows how to do.

[French accordion music]

[Vincent] That's got a funk to it.

It's got a funk to it.

Michael's is not complete... at all.

It's--it's rather poorly made and, uh,

it's very visible, unfortunately.

And, uh, he might have a rough time.

Hide the--the thread. You don't need to see it.

I gotta go work.

[Michael Knight] I'm creating these scallop shapes

by ruching it.

And the whole bodice of the dress,

front and back, is gonna be pretty much hand stitched in.

That's something new for me.

So, um, I'm getting a little nervous.

It's a lot of work.

Yeah.

I think that's what Malan was trying to do.

I'll take that as a compliment,

-I think. -[Jeffrey] Yeah.

[Vincent] I'm under the g*n here.

Could I just see a clock somewhere?

I'm gonna work and hopefully get it done in time.

Sometimes, you gotta take a risk.

[Jeffrey] How 'bout I couture your face?

[laughing]

[upbeat music playing]

[Uli] I felt pretty good because I knew what I wanted.

You can actually tell that it's an Uli dress.

But it's a step up and it's a couture gown.

[Jeffrey] My opinion, I'm the only person

doing a couture gown, by the way.

I think it has to look handmade.

It doesn't have to be handmade.

[Jeffrey] You're only saying that 'cause you haven't done

anything handmade.

[Laura] I haven't done anything handmade?

[Jeffrey] You haven't handmade.

I've spent all frickin' day

making this collar by hand.

[Jeffrey] Got no glue on this garment.

[Laura] Not yet.

[upbeat, tense music playing]

[Uli] Finished for this evening.

[Laura] Tomorrow, we're gonna be presenting our gowns

to Catherine Malandrino.

And we're so exhausted

from our work during the day.

[Jeffrey] I've never been this delirious.

[Laura] It's harder on me than the other designers.

I don't just have me to take care of.

I have a pregnancy to look after.

My feet have been swollen since I got here.

My ankles are just gone.

I'm three months pregnant now.

Guys, I'm gonna go lay down.

-Have fun. -[Michael Knight] Bye, Laura.

Have a drink for me.

Tim really didn't like the dress.

That really sucks.

[Kayne] I'm not recutting a new top.

I love this dress.

I'm gonna go to bed now.

[Michael Knight] Me too.

[instrumental music playing]

-Michael? -Hi, guys.

Good morning.

-We can go to work? -[Laura] Yeah.

[Uli] You can go to work.

Mister Kayne, get up.

[Kayne] Oh, God.

sh**t me in the face.

We are just getting ready for the party and celebration

for our couture gowns.

I think the mood amongst the group

is very serious and very focused

on exactly what we have to do to get the job done.

On y va.

[Michael Knight] All together now.

[upbeat music playing]

[Jeffrey] I wonder what Catherine's expecting to see.

[laughing] You know what I mean?

[Uli] Vincent's dress is not done.

And the fabric choice for the skirt part

I think looks a little bit like a sofa.

Whew! Okay.

Time to go to work.

[Michael Knight] I'm trying to hurry up and sew

the bodice together

so it can be ready for the soirée

with Catherine Malandrino.

I've never hand sewn anything.

And I'm not completely comfortable,

but I'm just trying to make sure that

it looks like couture.

[Tim] Hi, everybody.

[designers] Hi, Tim.

You have two and a half hours

to fit your models, do their hair and makeup,

and to prep them for the party.

I can't say. I can't say.

So I'm sending them in. Here they are.

[Jeffrey] Hi.

How are you? I'm Jeff.

[Uli] I think you're mine.

What's your name?

-Ida. -Ida, yeah, that's right.

Ida is tall, pale.

And I think it's gonna look really great

in the color I've chose for my dress.

[upbeat music playing]

Turn. Turn.

Turn, and stay. Where's Tim?

-Hi, Tim. -[Tim] What are you doing?

Pinning a hem.

And do you have time

to hand sew that hem?

Yes, of course.

-You do? -[Vincent] I have to.

Yes, of course?

It's a lot of work yet to do.

Make it work.

Something's not right.

I should be finished, like, in five minutes.

My model, Omodine, is definitely smaller

than what I expected.

I'm gonna have to take it in four sizes.

I have a lot of work to do,

so I'm stressed about that.

It's gonna be hot.

-Yeah, but it's really nice. -[Laura] Yeah.

Love it, love it, love it.

Okay, does it feel good?

-Yes. -Gorgeous, sister! Gorgeous!

[model laughs]

[upbeat music playing]

-[Tim] Vincent? -Yes, Tim?

-Are you gluing? -[Vincent]Uh-huh.

-Why? -I have no time

and I wanted this final treatment,

and I have to glue it, Tim.

How'd you do the hem?

I did the hem with glue.

I'm just looking at my clock now.

and I--I want to get this on there.

Well, it's just a shame that you had to glue.

Yeah, you're right.

The gluing discounts all the rest of it.

Yeah, well...

-What're you gonna do? -Keep gluing the hell out of it.

Thank you, Tim.

You know, I don't have the time

to make a couture garment here.

It's impossible.

If you can step in with the makeup?

All right, you've gotta get them into these garments now.

Five minutes,

and we are leaving.

And I'm really serious.

This is like a plane taking off.

[Laura] We don't know where we're going.

We don't know what's gonna happen when we get there.

We don't know anything. All we know

is we're going to a party

where we're gonna be presenting these gowns

to Catherine Malandrino.

[upbeat music playing]

[Michael Knight] The dress is poorly put together.

I want you to carry it like

it's the most beautiful dress you've ever seen, okay?

So fake it.

[Tim] All right, everybody.

Let's go.

Vincent, I mean it.

We're getting out of here right now.

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway...

[Tim] Here's our destination.

[surprised expressions]

[instrumental music playing]

Tim told us that we were going to a mystery location

to meet Catherine for our party.

And we weren't really sure where we were going.

[Tim] Here's our destination.

[surprised expressions]

[Uli] You guys, we're on a boat.

[Vincent] Everyone then realized, Oh, whoa.

It's gonna be on a boat,

on the Seine, which was, oh, beautiful, you know,

with these girls in our gowns.

What else more could you ask for?

[Michael Knight] Ah!

Somebody is throwing eggs.

[Uli] Let's go, they're throwing eggs.

Yeah, hurry up.

[Kayne] Someone really threw an egg?

Yeah, it almost hit Michael and went, like, phew.

-No, it hit her. -Yeah.

-It hit her. -It actually--Yeah, it hit her.

Probably that stupid kid.

-[Tim] It is all over the dress. -[Jeffrey] It hit the ground

and splattered on the dress.

My gown is, like, [bleep] right now.

Not only did I have to refit,

but on top of that,

somebody was throwing eggs,

and the egg splattered all over my gown.

Of course, it would be me today.

Where's the champagne?

[French accordion music playing]

[Catherine] Hi, everybody.

[designer] Whoa!

-Nice to see you. -Nice to see you.

[Tim] Catherine, I'm extremely proud

to bring you our designers,

and their models, wearing the designers' work.

[Catherine] You know, making a couture gown

in two days--it's an extremely difficult challenge.

But the first view of all of you with the gown,

is just absolutely magnificent.

Shall we have a toast?

Ah, yes, absolutely.

-Let's celebrate tonight. -[Tim] Wonderful.

[bottle pops]

[cheering]

[Catherine] A vous.

Catherine, I want to offer a toast to you,

-and to our designers. -[Catherine] Thank you.

And to the success of this challenge.

-Cheers. -[Catherine] To your success.

All of you, cheers.

Okay, oui, oui, bonjour.

I am in Paris with all of my gorgeous designer friends.

And we are having fun with Catherine Malandrino

on this beautiful boat.

[Catherine] What's mean, this tattoo?

-You know, I tried to read-- -Oh, yeah.

And it was quite difficult.

This is my son, Harrison Detroit.

-[Catherine] Yes. -And then, in Italian,

-"The love of my life." -[Catherine] Ah...

-Because this is really forever. -Yeah.

What was inspiration behind this dress?

[Jeffrey] The, uh, Statue of Liberty

was my initial inspiration.

Can you turn? Let me see the back of it?

[Jeffrey] I know.

Thank you so much.

[Laura] I'm so proud of the dress.

I feel it's quite interesting

for an evening dress to cover the arm.

-I'm always cold. -[Catherine] Uh-hmm.

Can I hear about your dress?

I wanted to do a very constructed corset,

and I could adjust the size in the back.

[Catherine]

Thank you.

[Kayne] Catherine Malandrino

totally gave me great, great,

great compliments on the gown,

so I felt like I had possibly redeemed myself.

And of course, a couture gown is all about the detail.

To come close and to appreciate the detail.

-Right. -Then how did you make

the construction here?

I did the ruching,

and, um, just really molded it.

It is [bleep] up up under that dress

if you took a look, it's horrible.

She wears it well.

[Catherine] There's something about the '80s

in this dress, coming from the shoulder.

Since a long time, I haven't seen

an evening dress with shoulder pads.

-Yes. -What was your inspiration?

Inspiration? I don't know.

But I like you. Very much. Very, very much.

You are one of the most sensational women

I've ever laid my eyes on. I mean that.

-Thank you. -Everything about you,

your hair, I watch, I look, your persona,

you are impeccable. I mean that.

-Thank you. -Are these your shoes?

No, they are not.

[Vincent] Let me ask you a question.

This dress,

do you think it's too much throwback?

Or do you think it's modern?

-Um-- -Be honest.

[Catherine] Uh, can you turn?

It's an interesting dress.

[Vincent] Okay.

[Catherine] I just want to make sure

to see these dress in movement.

And I would love to have a walk.

Okay.

I have score cards for Catherine.

These will return to New York with us.

And Catherine's scores will be joined

with the scores of the other judges in New York.

So this is an important presentation.

[upbeat music playing]

[Tim] Okay.

Catherine has marked your scores.

It was so wonderful, this show.

Thank you to all of you.

And I'm going to trade you.

I have your score cards.

They're coming back with me to New York.

So everybody, have a great time.

Let's enjoy the rest of the evening, all right?

[Catherine] Bravo.

Bravo is right.

[applause]

[Jeffrey] It was really, really nice to be in Paris

after a long, hard day's work.

It was really sort of a dream come true.

Did you like the dress, Catherine?

You know, it's so easy, so light.

And effortless.

[Kayne] You guys really, really

worked the runway-- oh, my gosh.

They're good. They're very good.

Uh, but you guys are superb.

It's a great view.

I love Paris.

I don't want it to end.

My last night in Paris was definitely great,

but I was ready to go home

'cause I know someone else had to leave.

-Thank you so much. -Thank you.

Thank you. Thank you so much.

[Laura] Paris was absolutely beautiful.

But we're all anxious to get back

to the rest of this competition.

[Vincent] It's such a lovely night.

-It's beautiful. -Yeah.

[Kayne] It's been so much fun.

[romantic music playing]

[rock music playing]

[Laura] It was nice to get back to Parsons New York.

Paris was great. It was beautiful there.

And I enjoyed working on the gown there.

But I'm excited to show it to the judges here

and see who is going to move on to the next round.

[Tim] So designers, I'm going to be sending in

your models.

You will have two hours to fit them,

send them to the TRESemmé hair salon,

to the L'Oréal Paris makeup room,

and prepare them for the runway judging.

And you know the drill. Make it work.

[designers] Make it work!

[upbeat music playing]

[Uli] Hi, girls.

We had to make a couture gown

to fit not only a model in Paris,

but to fit a model here.

My model in Paris actually was quite a bit smaller.

Like three inches in every, you know, area.

So that completely changes things.

Rrr... Rrrf!

Well, Jia, there's only a few people left now.

[Laura] When Camilla came in, I tried it on her

and basically, the collar has been crushed

during the travel in the garment bag.

So I'm working to give that collar the same life

that it had in Paris.

I have an hour to scrunch, so...

[upbeat music playing]

All I know is I really want a smoky eye

-and a lot of mascara. -[makeup artist] Okay.

Lift it up for sure.

You're beautiful. It's so terrific.

We're ready to go.

Everybody, the time has come.

You need to follow me.

Designers, models, now.

Okay, girl, you're gorgeous. Come on, let's go.

[Tim] Okay? Away we go to the runway.

Hello.

[designers] Hi.

Welcome back to the runway.

Did you guys enjoy your trip to Paris?

-Yes. -Yes, thank you.

-[Heidi] Yeah? -Uh-huh.

[Heidi] Okay, back to business.

As you know, in fashion, one day you're in,

and the next day, you're out.

There are six of you now, and after tonight,

there will be five.

Your challenge was to design a couture gown.

We asked you take chances creatively,

and pay special attention to hand sewing,

construction, and detail.

We gave you 300 euro.

That's 375 American dollars.

And two days to put it together.

Catherine Malandrino threw you a party

and got to score your designs already.

And now, it's our turn.

So let's meet the judges.

First, we have top American designer

Michael Kors.

Hey, guys. Welcome back.

Thank you.

[Heidi] Nina Garcia, fashion director of ELLE magazine.

[Nina] Hello.

And legendary fashion designer

Richard Tyler, who most recently designed

the Delta flight uniforms.

How're you doing?

Okay.

I've told you from the beginning

that there are benefits to winning

that will be revealed in a later challenge.

So I hope that you've done your best work.

We'll score your designs as they come down the runway.

One of you will be named the winner,

and one of you

will be out.

Let's start the show.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kayne] I absolutely loved seeing my gown

walking down the runway.

Silk chiffon and creped wrapped satin

is just gorgeous.

It was so beautiful,

the way the skirt flowed and moved.

It just kind of filled up the whole stage.

[Laura] My dress depends on the collar.

That was the one place

that I was making the dramatic statement.

But my collar is definitely not

as vibrant as it was in Paris.

[Uli] When my couture gown came down the runway,

I really liked it. I liked the color.

And really liked how it was moving.

I think it did look better in Paris, but I was happy.

[upbeat music playing]

[Jeffrey] When I saw the garment coming down the runway,

I felt amazing, you know.

Marilinda's walk in my gown

was worlds better than the Paris model.

I loved working on the dress.

I loved making it, and I really loved

watching it come to life.

[Vincent] I think when Jia walked out on the runway,

it had a whole level of sophistication

that none of those dresses had.

The cut on the back of that dress...

Nobody cuts like that or does things like that.

To me, it was far better than the other dresses by far.

[upbeat music playing]

[Michael Knight] I'm sweatin' like a wh*re in church

'cause I really think I'm gonna be in the bottom.

Because, I mean, I'm real about it.

My dress is not the best dress up there.

There was a whole bunch of issues about the dress.

But hey, hopefully I'll have a spot

in the next challenge.

[tense music playing]

[Heidi] We have Catherine's scores

from Paris.

And we would like to ask all of you some questions.

So let's bring out your models.

[tense music playing]

Okay, I would like to start with Uli.

Tell us a little bit about your gown.

I wanted to create a gown which shows,

um, hand detail.

And I also wanted to hide the seams,

which brings it up to a much higher level

than what I'm usually doing.

It's nice that you can show

something that is more toned down

and that is one color.

It's grown up.

It looks elevated.

Um, I don't look at it and think

that she should be wearing a flip flop in Miami.

Richard, how do you like Uli's dress?

[Richard] I actually love this gown.

I just love the color.

It looks a little bit unfinished,

for me personally.

But I love the cut.

I think the bodice is beautiful.

You did a great job.

Kayne--

I just wanted something very constructed

that you can kind of see the structure of.

Um, so I chose this non-traditional gold mesh.

It's double layered.

Both layers have boning.

And then the final finishing hand details

was just appliqueing on all of the beaded lace.

And I had to cut it out

and hand sew it onto the corset.

Along with the, um, the velvet ribbons.

It's very busy.

[Nina] You tend to just

throw it all in there.

The ombre, and the beading, and the slit.

And sometimes, I think

you would do better by just holding back a little bit.

You know how to make clothes.

You understand a woman's body.

I think the ombre chiffon is gorgeous.

But who can even concentrate on the ombre chiffon?

I think your middle name's gotta be Too Much.

Jeffrey--

Yes?

Tell us a little bit about your dress.

[Jeffrey] As soon as I walked

into the fabric store,

this just jumped out at me.

I--I love the color.

More than anything, I want people to just smile

when they look at this gown.

Top to bottom, it's pretty much

all handmade, with a needle and thread.

I think out of

all of these,

you probably took the most creative chance.

And I have to applaud that.

[Michael Kors] I think, you know,

everyone assumes that he's got this sort of goth,

dark attitude, and...

Here was a way for you to use color

that I still think actually is very you.

[Richard] Could you turn around for me?

It's not perfect, you know.

How can you do it in two days?

Make a couture gown.

But you can tell by the model--

she really loves wearing it.

That's what it's all about.

Vincent, tell us about your couture gown.

What did you do by hand?

So I, uh, used very expensive fabric.

There's a little detail in the sleeve.

And, um, I-I think it's soft and feminine.

I like it.

You know, I don't like the sleeve.

But if you're gonna do some oddball sleeve,

it's gotta fit.

You know, took a chance.

[Nina] What I am confused about

is the top of the dress.

And I almost wish the back of the dress

were the front of the dress.

Can we turn it around?

-No, I'm serious. -Sure, sure.

Because I think you have a problem

with the fit in the front.

I understand that, I can see that.

Yeah, I knew it. I knew it in the front.

Yeah, I--I hate that thing on the back.

It looks, you know--

It just shouldn't be there.

It's not--

Not couture.

Michael, tell us about your dress.

My dress was pretty much

inspired by the, um, architecture in Paris.

All the bodice is hand ruched.

Um, it's my very first time ever

doing any hand ruching.

The problem is in the execution.

It looks like when we loan something to a celebrity,

and it comes back.

[Heidi] That's how it comes back.

That's how it comes back.

You sent it out so beautiful,

and it comes back.

You're like, what happened?

What'd she do, go through a w*r in this dress?

[Michael Knight] On our way to the show,

some prankster decided to throw

eggs out the window.

And it splattered on my dress.

Oh, no! So it is spilled?

Yeah.

I don't love the neckline.

Those two things

look like two bunny ears coming out.

I really hate those.

[Heidi] Can you not just tuck them in?

[Richard] See that? Look at that.

-[Michael Kors] Night and day. -[Heidi] Yeah.

It's amazing,

just some little, simple thing like that makes all--

Don't you think?

Totally different.

-[Heidi] Laura-- -Yes?

Tell us about your dress.

I wanted to create

a dress that was maybe a little too dramatic

for the normal woman.

[Heidi] Richard--

This part really bothers me the most.

[Laura] Right, I tried to sort of

loosen up the levels, and gathered it all by hand.

Well, I think you could have taken it--

That frayed edge a little bit further

by picking the-- the layers up.

'Cause that's just-- Umph.

Give it some life.

Yeah, needs some life.

[Nina] It looks like old St. Laurent, or I don't know

if this is what you were trying to go for.

But it just doesn't feel

new, doesn't feel modern.

It doesn't feel contemporary.

Just feels...

old and done.

I think if you shortened it

and you gave her a feather duster,

she looks like a French maid.

Okay, we've heard what you have to say.

We'll have a little chat,

and then I'm gonna call you back.

You can leave the runway.

Thank you.

[tense music playing]

Okay, so let's see what Catherine thought.

She loved Ulrike's dress.

She said it's light and effortless.

She gave her a really high score.

And you know, out of all the dresses,

that's a dress that I would be wearing.

[Michael Kors] And I will say this,

she thought in three-dimensional terms.

-[Heidi] Yeah. -[Michael Kors] She did.

And she did a lot of hand work.

Catherine Malandrino,

she gave, um, Jeffrey a high score.

And she wrote,

Magnifique. A lot of stars, so...

I think Jeffrey did a really... terrific job.

I thought the minute his girl hit the runway,

she had energy, it was youthful.

I thought--I thought it was really, really cute.

To Michael,

heavy draping.

She did not give him a high score at all.

[Richard] And to say "Somebody threw eggs,"

that's not an excuse.

He's not doing 50 gowns, he's going one gown.

You know, as a designer,

he should be taking care of that.

He should be there every second.

To Kayne,

she said, "Beautiful bustier, but old."

-[Michael Kors] It was tacky. -[Richard] Yeah, really tacky.

[Heidi] Yeah. And we tell him that all the time.

It's a question, also, of taste.

I just think that...

maybe the taste level is not there.

-Vincent. -[Michael Kors] His model,

she's basically topless.

The sleeve has the Ace of clubs built in.

[Richard] What was that?

[Michael Kors] And then all of a sudden, turn around

and there's this thing glued in the back.

[Heidi] Catherine Malandrino wrote,

"No, no, no, no."

Doesn't matter if you're French, American,

Columbian, Australian, or German,

I think it's a big no.

Then, what was Laura's dress?

It was too obvious of an old St. Laurent dress.

And it looked old on top of it.

[Michael Kors] Felt like she had the same problem as Vincent.

This big block of fabric

that just looked like a slab.

-It was just like, "blugh." -[Michael Kors] It's missing.

-It just died, it just died. -[Richard] You're right.

Okay, so we made our decision.

Let's bring them back out.

[tense music playing]

[Heidi] One of you will be named the winner.

And one of you will be out.

[tense music playing]

[Heidi] One of you will be named the winner.

And one of you will be out.

Tonight, we're gonna start with the winner of this challenge.

Congratulations...

Jeffrey.

Jeffrey, you're the winner of this challenge.

Thank you.

We thought it was very fresh, new, hip,

colorful, fashion forward--

-Thank you so much. -[Heidi] Couture.

Congratulations.

I appreciate that. Thank you.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, though, the fun is over for the winners.

And you will not have immunity for the next challenge.

It's gonna get tough

from here on out.

-You can leave the runway. -Thank you.

[whispering] Congratulations.

[Jeffrey] When I heard that I won again,

I was a little surprised.

It just felt really, really good.

And no matter what happens from here on out,

I won two in a row, which feels amazing.

[sigh]

Uli...

You're in.

You can leave the runway.

Thank you, thank you.

[Heidi] Michael...

You're in.

You can leave the runway.

Thank you all.

[tense music playing]

Kayne...

You're in.

You can leave the runway.

Thank you all very much.

[whispered] Good luck, darlin'.

[whispered] Thank you, darlin.'

I think I'm gonna vomit.

[Heidi] Laura...

Vincent--one of you

will be out.

[tense music playing]

[Heidi] Vincent,

couture is about finishing and detail.

And we feel that your dress lacked both.

The front looked like the back.

The fit was off.

We were confused.

Laura, your dress looked old and predictable.

We've seen it before,

and done better.

Laura...

[suspenseful music playing]

You're in.

Thank you.

Thank you.

[somber music playing]

[Laura] This cannot be good for the baby.

[chuckles]

[Heidi] Vincent,

that means you're out.

Auf Wiedersehen, Vincent.

And to you as well.

-Bye-bye. -Bye.

Bye.

-[Uli] Vincent... -I had fun.

I had fun with you guys.

I'm a little sad for whatever reason I was judged out.

All I wanted to do is get to that final runway show

just to show a full collection.

So Vincent, we have to send you upstairs

to clean up your space.

-Sure, Tim. -Okay?

-Thank you. -[Tim] You take care.

I sure will. Thanks. Tim.

I did cash in my 401k

and quit a job to be here.

I said, "Let me roll the dice."

I like taking chances,

and I'm not sorry that I did.

I'm so thankful to Project Runway.

It put me in a nice place, you know.

It was just such a beautiful thing.

It just got me off. I loved it.

[Heidi] Next on Project Runway...

Before I tell you about your next challenge,

I want to introduce our special guests.

And there are two of them.

[laughing]

[Michael Knight] What the hell is going on?

I can't exhaust myself

trying to design for the Olsen twins.

So I have to just be happy with what I send out.

I wanted to make a big career change.

But now, it's getting exhausting.

I don't like this.

I think the proportion is wrong.

The material doesn't look

sophisticated to me,

or sexy.

It looks...

a little cheap to me.
