As the raw materials for an outfit of your choice.

Surrounding you are all sorts

Of delicious brands

For you to create your designs.

[Chris] there's just bags of candy

And--and giant candy bars.

And all sorts of stuff to work with.

Designers, there's no budget for this one.

Instead, you'll have five minutes

To grab whatever you can get your hands on.

There are shopping bags for each of you over here.

You will have today

To complete this look.

And...

Your five minutes

Begins...

Now!

[Frenzied circus music]

We all ran like madmen.

Trampled over one another.

It was crazy and vicious.

[Kit] all the candy you could shove into a bag.

It was so much fun.

[Elisa] I'm not going with a garment plan at all.

And I figure I'll make whatever I make

When I get to the workroom

By taking everything apart

And figuring out what I have.

They're so hard to get out!

[Christian] I just literally went right for the reese's area.

All the peanut butter cups

Were in these, like, plastic bags

With these brown ribbons on 'em.

I'm gonna use the inside of reese's peanut butter cups.

So that is the only thing I chose,

And that's exactly what I went for.

This is my pile, b*tches! Don't touch it.

Two minutes, everybody.

This is crazy.

I hope none of this melts.

These are mine.

[Chris] I have a lot of experience of knowing

Not to use food

To make things with whenever possible.

So I just went and grabbed, like,

All the pillows that I could hold.

[Jillian] I thought about

Using twizzlers as my material,

And I just poured packs of twizzlers

Into my bags.

As many as I could get my hands on.

[Victorya] I was so focused on getting my materials,

It's all kind of a blur.

I'm the only person who decided to use

Edible product for this.

And as soon as I saw the twizzlers,

I had my design immediately.

I have this vision to sculpt the twizzlers

Into a bodice.

It's definitely a risk, and I think it's worth it.

I think that the end result will look really awesome.

I'm cutting little bears apart.

-I feel so guilty. -Aw!

I know!

[Chris] oh, please.

[Smashing]

Maybe I'll do it on the floor.

[Sweet p] just started smashing away, and it was pretty fun.

I was pretty loud.

I have an idea of a dress.

I want the whole bodice to be silver.

And the waistband, I'm going to break up these pots.

Do you think these'll stick, chris?

[Chris] I would do a test.

That's what I always do.

And then the bottom,

I'm going to try and take

My blue teddy bears and my brown pillows

And make a print.

I work very instantaneous.

And it normally works out for me,

Because I have a very strong style.

I had to unwrap basically

Over 1,000 of these reese's peanut butter cups.

I tried to count, but I got dizzy.

[Whining] my table's so dirty.

Oh, I'm gonna cry.

I'm making kind of this...

Stephen sprouse-y op art dress.

I love it.

I really got underway pretty quickly,

I know people are already having trouble with the real food.

Is taking a risk with the twizzlers.

Most of the fabrics I will use

Are things that I can probably sew and put together.

There's been many times where I choose

Not to do certain things

Because I know they're going to be

A lot more time consuming.

I was totally going for, like,

If calliope and I were shopping,

What would she want me to buy for her?

I'm definitely having this feeling of wanting to make

Some sort of fairy-tale-esque type thing

For my daughter calliope.

So it's a compulsive-- so i, like,

Won't let myself get eaten

Till I finish a certain amount of

Whatever it is that I have to do.

My daughter insisted that I try for project runway.

Like, three years ago,

I had gotten an opportunity

To launch a t-shirt line in london.

And the last day that we were there,

I took full impact as a pedestrian on a porsche.

I had a severe head injury,

And my head cracked open 3 1/2, almost 4 inches.

My neck was broken.

I was in a coma for five days.

I stayed there for two or three months,

I came back to the states.

And now I want to see project runway

As an attempt to somehow

Reclaim a life I could've had

If I hadn't been hit by the car.

Fabulous.

[Ricky] what are you making, kevin?

I'm making, like, a little, classy look.

It's gonna be, like, a halter-corset looking thing

With a pencil skirt, and I'm gonna do

A little, bolero cropped jacked with, uh, rolos as buttons.

Basically, I'm making these pieces

That you could actually wear.

I'm not one to make, like,

These outlandish, avant-garde pieces.

So you're done for the evening?

I hate you.

I don't know how it happens.

[Ricky] christian is so caught up in his own ego

That he can't see past it.

This, to me, doesn't look wearable,

And it doesn't look fanciful either.

It looks like it was very easy.

[Ricky] playing with hershey's

And wrappers and all that stuff

Made me realize that I need to have fun with this.

I just kinda threw caution out the window.

And I love it.

[Chris] my outfit looked

Exactly how I wanted it to.

I was just happy to watch.

And I really wasn't that worried,

'Cause I thought it was just amazing.

[Kit] I'm so proud of myself.

The garment is conceptual.

It's fun. It's me.

And marie looks hot.

[Elisa] I was very satisfied

With how the dress looked,

Because it did create the quality I wanted

Which was a fairly macabre, disturbing,

Gretel-like figure.

[Kevin] amanda looked so, like, elegant

And that's exactly what I wanted to go for.

I wanted to make, like, pretty much

Chocolate wrappers look classy,

And it totally came through.

[Christian] I thought my outfit looked amazing!

And when the light hit it, you could tell

That there was definitely these tiny cut-out shapes.

I think 100% you could tell that mine was very me.

[Sweet p] as katie walks down the runway,

I think she looks really cute.

I am really confident with my design.

I feel like it really lends an air of lightness,

Which I wanted.

[Rami] sam looks amazing.

I definitely see that it caught

Zac posen's attention instantly.

I'm very happy with the outfit.

And, uh, it feels pretty good.

[Jillian] I'm cringing, just, like,

Clenching my teeth, not knowing

If something's gonna fall off or not.

But she looks flawless.

And it just came together perfectly.

[Victorya] I had this idea of ice princess.

And so, you know, I wanted to devise this pose

That she would do.

And it was kind of probably on the quirky side.

What materials did you use?

[Rami] for the top,

I used the twizzler plastic pillowcase,

Which is clear.

And, uh, this is the york wrapping paper.

[Zac] I think that the overall effect

Is really successful.

It looks very neat, and it looks like

You have some complicated construction in it.

I think overall, it works.

Thank you.

[Michael] it could've turned out

Silly looking.

But it's made

Really well,

And it fits her beautifully.

I think you got the charm

And the spirit of working with all this crazy candy.

A little bit about your dress.

My goal was to make

A beautiful, sexy, amazing dress

That felt like candy,

But didn't use candy.

There were so many amazing things to work with,

And i-i would've liked to have seen

Something a little crazier.

The minute she turned the corner,

I'm like, where's the joy?

To me, it looks like

A brown velvet dress that you'd find

In a flea market, and she's got a silver

Shower cap on her arm.

-Yes. -But it lost

Your joy, it lost the joy of being...fun.

[Zac] and the joy of candy.

The joy of candy, yeah.

You know, it's not wearable, but it's not fabulous.

It didn't work

For me in that way.

[Heidi] jillian.

I see some candy on your dress.

Immediately, I walked in the store,

And I saw the twizzler section.

And I knew exactly what I wanted to design

And how I wanted to use the materials.

[Zac] I like licorice a lot.

And it's a cute skirt

That a young girl would wanna wear.

And it's red.

And red is a great color.

So it's fantastic.

[Nina] I think it's sexy,

It's playful,

And it suits her very well.

I think you did a great job.

Well, then I guess it's worth all the pain.

Deliciously chic.

She actually smells really nice too.

It's adorable. I think it's really well done.

What materials did you use?

I gathered

These huge peppermint patty pillows.

And I have to say it's totally wearable.

You wouldn't wear that.

I would totally wear that dress.

This, to me, doesn't look wearable,

And it doesn't look fanciful either.

[Heidi] I was thinking dairy queen.

She works at the dairy queen.

I was like, this has nothing to do with candy.

This is dairy queen.

Why did she walk so strangely?

[Victorya] I think I just wanted to transmit the idea

Of something like a modern-day ice princess.

But at the same time, you're saying it's totally wearable?

[Victorya] yeah. Yeah, totally.

Though ice princess is something totally ethereal.

It didn't compliment

The dress.

[Heidi] chris.

What materials did you use?

I saw the big hershey bag

With the silver, uh, logo on the brown.

And the twizzler, um, vinyl that a lot of people used.

Right away I kinda knew

That I wanted to combine the two in kind of a...

Warhol, kind of stephen sprouse sort of way.

I think the texture you created is really good.

I mean, as an effective fantasy,

It doesn't go there for me.

Certainly, I can go to making a parade float

Out of candy.

It's kinda my specialty.

[Michael] you got nervous

That you were gonna, like, go

Totally berserk,

And it was gonna be, like,

Just this over-the-top craziness.

You know, I have to look at each designer differently.

And from you, I have to say

I think that this is a really smart editing choice.

It's also made well.

And she's great in it.

[Nina] this girl could go

Into a studio and be shot for the pages of elle.

She's all set.

What did you use to make your dress?

I used all kisses, hershey's kiss stuff,

Which was a kiss-- a stuffed kiss,

And then this is actually the stuff that they make

The little thing stick out of the kiss.

So it's tissue.

[Heidi] it was a little bit

On the boring side, I have to say.

[Nina] comparatively with the rest,

It looks like it was very easy.

Well, I actually started somewhere else.

I had a whole 'nother dress.

[Michael chuckles]

It has no sense of...

Kind of smile or joy to it to me.

I am more simple in my aesthetic.

But simple can be fantastic.

I mean, I'm not--i'm not-- I love simple.

But comparatively, it just looks...

Ss...sad.

[Heidi] we've heard what you had to say.

So how did you guys think everyone did?

They enjoyed themselves.

You can see it.

But at the same time, a lot of them made

Some pretty impeccable looking clothes.

What did you think about chris?

[Michael] he could've given us the parade float, he said it.

[Zac] I wanted somebody to show me a float.

The one thing I will say, though--

You know, sometimes we question his taste level,

But instead he sent a girl out who looked...

-Tasteful. -[Heidi] yeah.

Chris's was very sophisticated.

Rami.

His girl came out, and I was just--i smiled.

I think that he used the materials in an interesting way.

-And it fit beautifully. -[Heidi] yeah.

I don't know if you noticed that under each pleat

Was a different part of the print with dots underneath it.

That's a lot of work.

It was a lot of work, but it was, like, smart work.

He did it-- he did good.

-He did excellent. -Yeah.

Also someone who I think did excellent

Was jillian.

Oh, how charming was that?

[Nina] chic, sexy...

[Michael] movement.

[Nina] sophisticated.

-Edible. -[Nina] edible.

Well, she's the only one

Who actually had an edible garment.

[Heidi] yeah.

And it was really well done.

So who were your least favorites?

[Michael] elisa.

If she wants to be this avant-garde,

Which is what she keeps stressing to us,

Well, then, don't send this sad brown dress out.

It's boring.

I wonder if she saw all that clothing on a rack,

Is she gonna pick her piece?

To feel cool and be avant-garde.

I don't think that dress was avant-garde.

I don't either.

-This was very disappointing, this dress. -[Heidi] yeah.

There was victorya.

[Zac] I don't think she really worked with the material

Or with the assignment.

She didn't do anything interesting with the materials.

[Zac] you know, when you go into a candy store,

And you buy the pillow with the logo of the candy on it,

It's just really not inspiring me.

Talk about yet another look that had...

[Nina] no effort.

[Michael] no effort, no imagination.

It's not a "wow," there was no effect.

Maybe her original outfit

Would've been more interesting, I don't know.

[Zac] you know, it just wasn't inventive

On any level.
