are going to Fashion Week.

You're probably wondering,
where is Carol Hannah?

I think there's a little bit of,
"Oh, she made it."

You have one more look to create.

We do have help for you guys.

So we get back to the hotel,
and I just feel horrible.

[Vomiting]

I just wanna, like,
crawl into the corner and die.

This is Project Runway.

The winner of Project Runway
will receive

a fashion spread
in marie claire magazine,

a Paris vacation courtesy of Evian,

and $100,000 from L'Oréal Paris

to start their own line.

- Carol Hannah got really sick last night.
- Really? Why?

Just nauseous. She said the same thing
she's been having.

I feel the same as I did last night.

This is a really critical point,
and there's a lot of work ahead.

And if I'm lying with my head in the toilet,
that's not very helpful.

- Hi, lady.
- Hi.

[Irina]
I kind of really do feel for her.

But there's really nothing,
you know, I can do to help her.

It's really overwhelming.
If I continue to feel like this,

this is not going to be a good day.

[Logan] I'm definitely impressed
and proud of Carol Hannah.

A lot of people definitely couldn't handle
the pressure that we're under right now.

Oh, I'm sick.
I don't feel good.

I think that she's done
a great job on her collection.

And being ill is not fun anyway,

let alone being here
under the pressure that we are.

[Sniffling]

[Gordana] We really need
to finish everything today.

I know. And tomorrow has to be
just, like, touch-up, fix-up.

Irina is under so much stress,
and she has so much to think about,

so she's not 100% cool
as she normally is.

[Gordana]
I won't quit on you. I promise.

I'm counting on you.

I just feel awful.
And there's so much to do.

This is not how
this was supposed to go.

I'm happy that I'm there,

because I can be there
to kind of comfort her for a moment,

but then get back to being her tailor

and finisher, and get the stuff done.

- I don't know.
- I'm here to do everything

that you need, that I can do.

All right, guys.
Do you guys wanna head to get

our hair and makeup consultations done?

I think it's time to go.

I'm gonna keep plugging away.

[Carol Hannah chuckles]

- It's sort of armor inspired.

I have a lot of these felt hats
that look like helmets.

- So I really wanna work on the eye.
- Uh-huh.

And, of course, we'll smudge this

- with dark shadow.
- Right.

Not like a very clean glamour.

- It's a little more dirty edge.
- It's not a glamorous...

Almost like smudge.

I know that I want soft and pretty.

- Tell me a little bit about your collection.
- [Carol Hannah] Okay.

It's based partly on Gothic architecture
and fairy tales.

Oh.

They should all have ponytails
sharply cut.

I would use something that's
gonna make this really sleek...

- Perfect.
...and shiny.

I want them to look
like clones of each other

but still have that youngness
and that sort of sex appeal.

Yeah, I think we're definitely

- on the same page.
- Okay. Cool. I'm excited.

Hey.

I'm a little nervous for the model fittings
today because they're always stressful.

Carol Hannah,
what do you think about this one?

- I'm gonna take a picture of it.
- Oh, cute.

It fits nice.

I know right now it looks crazy,

but it's all figured out in...

It's right there that's the issue.

The fitting of the models
is extremely important to me

because so much
about my clothes is fit.

I really can't leave
any room for error with that.

Yeah, that other one looks...

- This doesn't look as good.
- [Logan] Yeah, this is better.

See, I don't like this.
I like the side. It should be straight.

All these curves and all these things

just needs to hit at a certain point,

otherwise it just gets distorted.

- They fit? Okay.
- Yeah. They're cute with that.

- That's cute with that, right?
- That's really good with that.

The fittings are going great.
Every single piece seems to have

a girl that is, like,
just perfect for it.

I'm here to check in

I'd love to look at the 13th look.

Um, so this is it.
It's still a work in progress.

I was just really, you know...

- What am I missing really?
- Yeah.

- I mean, frankly, I think it's beautiful.

Yeah.

I just want you to be careful

that it doesn't make everything
look too costumey.

What are you doing
with the makeup?

I kind of wanna do this very,
like, almost muddy,

dark, dusty eye.

- [AIthea] Hey.

- How are things?
- I don't know.

It's, like, two days
before Fashion Week,

and I think I'm getting the nerves...

Yeah, this is our 13th look.

You know, I think this was a good look
to just enhance the collection.

I mean, the only thing I'll say about

this exaggerated shoulder
is that it's a little '80s.

I don't know. I just feel
like that extra shape

will add sort of
some more drama to everything.

I'm really excited about the makeup,
because for the makeup,

- it's gonna be a bit messy and...
- Messy?

Well, like, smudge smoky.
Like she slept on it for a day.

That sounds like what
Irina was telling me.

Well, I hope that's...

Yes?

L... I mean...
I don't know.

It sounds very similar.
I just don't want it to look as though

all the girls all came
out of the same...

- [Irina] Factory.
- Yeah. Exactly. The same factory.

This will resolve itself.

- All right?
- Yeah.

you're concerned about?

- I'm just getting overwhelmed.
- No, I understand.

You're fragile right now,
but you also have a trajectory.

- This is a "make it work" moment.

And that's what you need to do.

I wanted this color
to be more prominent throughout,

- and now I feel like it is.

So, rather than just kind of an accent,
it's more of a focal point.

And that's why it's good
that there are two of you.

It's a super important decision

be standing in front of the judges for a while

while they deliberate and come to decisions.

It's really cool.

I thought why not
just make it really fun

and have her in the 13th look.

I'm so excited.

Okay, I need something firm in it.

- Uh-oh. Does this one have shoes?
- I'm sure it did.

This is done,
other than the shoes.

I know you saw me walking
with coffee,

but I'm working,
believe me.

Everything else I have is the tweaks,
the zippers, the hems.

I just really have to work

extremely fast.

that we were gonna add to the back of this?

- I thought they were still pinned to it.

to kind of get all the models prepped
and outfits prepped before the show.

It's a really big deal.

I really cannot wait.

I definitely have every emotion
I can possibly think of.

I mean, today is basically what,

you know, this whole thing is about.

[AIthea] It finally hits me that
I'm showing at Bryant Park.

It's actually happening.

I wanna see what it's like

Walking into the tent, it's,
to be honest, a little intimidating.

and let the models do it?

This day, to me...
it's somewhat surreal.

You just kind of turn this switch on.

Okay, let's just rock it.

are starting to show up.

- I added a coat to your look.
- You did?

Yeah.

- Irina?
- Yes.

I am concerned
that this isn't done,

and the other is that Kalyn's not
in hair and makeup yet.

The color doesn't necessarily bother me

- as much as the shine.
- They weren't supposed to put the shine.

- Smoother? Is that what you think?
- A little smoother,

a little sleeker.

Carol Hannah, we have


- [Carol Hannah] I'm freaking out right now.
- Irina, what happened?

My zipper broke during the dressing,

- and I'm just very unhappy about that.
- Oh, it did?

I'm so proud of it.
And, you know, obviously, I want to win.

But I think you never know.

I would like to introduce our judges.

One of my favorite designers of all times,

Hello. Hi. How are you?

- I'm Althea.
- [Woman] Whoo!

I'm really excited
to show you my collection today.

I honestly feel like
I'm about to show you

kind of like a piece of my soul.

I was inspired by sci-fi movies
from the '50s and '60s

and how they saw the future,

and so, I kind of wanted to introduce

what the woman of today
would wear tomorrow.

So thank you all so much.

Especially for my family
for being here.

And I hope you enjoy.

You know, I'm proud
of myself for stepping it up.

And I worked really hard
to get it out there.

And I feel like everything
looks really clean.

It moves well.
I'm 100% happy with it.

I would wear every single piece.

My collection's
really about New York.

Home is where the heart is.

It's really about what it takes

to sort of survive
in this city as a woman.

And it's about comforting
and shielding yourself

and just going at it.

As I'm watching my clothes
come down the runway,

I'm really happy with all of them.

I think my collection definitely
represents me as a designer.

It's always feminine and sexy,
but this time around, it was a lot tougher.

I hope that people get it...
that they see my vision,

and it's apparent,
and they understand it.

It was exciting for me
to see the show.

I thought it was a strong group.

All three collections
were brilliant.

Everybody was amazing.
Each one of them were amazing.

Incredible.
What a strong group of designers.

I mean, could I say
the strongest ever?

Althea's had a great vibe, great energy.
It looked good. It felt good.

Althea's, I thought, was really, really,
you know, put together,

very chic, a little more modern.

- I was mostly impressed with Irina's work.
- Fabulous.

Irina's was my most favorite of all.

I loved Carol Hannah's.
Her collection was brand-new.

I'm gonna go with Carol Hannah,
'cause I think she really deserves it.

That was a really great show today.

I mean, all in all, I was very impressed
with all three designers.

I thought that they did
a very good job.

I was very impressed.
I thought they all

really put a lot of time and effort
into their collections.

Some more than others.

I thought all three had strong ideas,

and they all three had strengths.

I think we saw variety today.

I think we saw fabulous knitwear
which is unusual,

and we saw great sportswear,

and we saw great evening clothes
and a lot of ideas.

All right.

you know, I gave you one last surprise.

fashion critic of the

And I'm thrilled to be here
and to be part of Project Runway.

Let's bring out your models.

Irina, tell us about your...
your line.

I loved the idea of, like, shielding

to just sort of
go out there in the world,

'cause living in a city like this

sometimes takes
a tough woman to pull off,

you know, doing what you want,
living in a big city,

and still, at the end of the day,
be a woman and be feminine.

Quite honestly, we've seen
a lot of the warrior woman.

- Right.
- She's not really

a new character on the scene,

quite frankly.

I like this idea of it all
being brought together.

It seemed to be very coherent.

There was a starting point,
and it was really worked in different ways.

It really looked finished.

It does not look like a show
that is put together

with $9,000.

The T-shirts.

- Did you make those T-shirts?
- I did.

It was very refreshing to see that,
because it was like seeing you,

and it was you communicating
in a very intimate way.

Well, I have to say,
you know,

I think the amount of work
that went into the clothes

is commendable.

Hats, bags, the pleating.

I have to say... I mean,
I would love, myself,

to own a lot of these pieces.

I have a question.
Why so much black?

You know what it is?

It wasn't even, actually,
a conscious decision.

It was just almost intuitive.

When it is all black,

sometimes you give yourself
a bit of a disservice.

When I saw the black piece
on the screen,

I'm like, "Oh, I wish I could see more
of the metallic."

- And imagine the effect when you sh**t it...
- [Michael] In a magazine.

...for a magazine.
- [Irina] Right.

- It gets very little editorial... black.
- Right.

- We talked about this.
- Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

Carol Hannah.

I wanted to play with
the volume in the pieces

to kind of reflect those shapes.

So, playing with draping a lot.

Kind of structured draping.

I loved the first look.

- I thought it had all of the elements
- [Heidi] I did, too.

That you do so well.

And it was very spirited.

And you work very well with these fabrics
that are very difficult.

- Thank - you.
I loved the Grecian goddess dress.

I thought that was a beautiful dress.

I thought the way it was draping...
I loved the color.

I thought that was really...
That was one of my favorite ones.

That was the 13th, actually.

- That was the extra one you made?
- That was the one we did this week.

- You're kidding me?
- No.

Wow. And you just winged that
in the last two days?

That's good.

I'm intrigued to know the origins
of that upturn-pyramid dress.

First of all,
it looked really hard to do,

and a clever feat to bring it off.

It's definitely more of,
like, a showpiece.

It's not gonna be like,

"Oh, I'm gonna go sit down
and have dinner now," but...

- Well, I noticed it.
- It was fun. Thank you.

I had a hard time seeing it
as a 13-piece collection.

I just felt like every time
something came again,

it was interesting,
but it was always so different

that it didn't seem cohesive to me.

- The connective thread.
- Okay.

It's interesting what you brought up
about the structured drapery,

because I thought that that
was really your strong suit.

I love that mix
of drapery and tailoring.

I thought it was a really
great way to do it.

We're moving on.

I just got to thinking
with the new political tone

and all this talk of the future,
I kind of wanted to give my input,

but in the best way I know how,
which is through clothes.

I have to say bravo
for seeing sportswear.

You could dissemble these clothes.

You could buy a piece
and add it to your closet

and have your own spin on it,
which I think is great.

I loved that dash of color,

where you did
that little green dress.

The knit green dress... I loved it.
I loved seeing some color.

It was refreshing, because everything
looked very much monotone.

I did love the skirt
and the shiny top with the belt.

I think that was
one of my favorites.

The way you made that skirt and the top...
I think that was beautiful.

[Michael]
There was a khaki silk pant

that was cut beautifully

that a million people
would love to own.

They were interesting,
and they were flattering.

Well, you saw the future,
and I saw some great knitwear,

but I'm not sure quite where

that matches up
with futuristic things.

I feel like I did that with
the chunky... um, the jacket.

It was, like, in the middle of the collection,
with the high collar

and the shoulders
that kind of came out.

I feel like that
was a, you know,

a big reference
to the futuristic look.

I thought the last three pieces
of your collection

were off.

I almost thought that we had
moved in to another show.

Perhaps you tried
to hit too many notes

on this collection, you know?

Which one was your 13th look...

the one that you just had to
whip together in two days?

The 13th look was actually the tan...

- [Michael] Really?
- [Nina] So, the khaki pant.

So you guys did well
on your 13th look.

Okay, we've heard
what you had to say.

We're gonna have
a little chat,

and when we come back,
one of you

will be the winner
of Project Runway.

You can leave the runway.

Let's talk about Carol Hannah.

I have to say,
when you look at the opening dress,

it is exciting, it is photographical,

it has design in it, and...

- Has desire.
- It has desire. Exactly.

It has all of that,
and it's not easy

to find the garment
that has all of that in it.

She had perhaps
the best sense of color.

- That teal that she's wearing herself...
- Yeah.

And also, you know, some really
beautiful color on the runway.

She played with the color.

- She just didn't play with it enough.
- Enough. Exactly.

But she actually played
with it more than anyone else.

You do see Carol Hannah.

You see her point of view.
And she loves dresses.

And she's impeccable in her tailoring.

I mean, that's what
has made her get this far,

because she's always been
very good at that.

Let's move on to Althea.

What I love about Althea is that she has
a sense of coolness.

She can really translate
what's going on in the streets.

She's got that connection

with what is cool and is out there.

- I think she's very plugged in to the street.
- Yeah.

And I think that a lot of women
would respond to her clothes.

I loved some of her pieces.
I could see them...

We could sh**t them,
and I'm sure

that marie claire readers
would respond to them.

I mean, that blue suit was fantastic.

[Heidi]
The suit was most

what I thought Althea's all about.

That kind of style...
that's what's brought her here.

Um, again, it looked a little bit like
an assemblage, though, of clothes.

It didn't really tell a tale, I don't think.

The clothes aren't shown
to best advantage.

I think she's a great knitwear designer
and sportswear designer.

But pieces, items.

The great cardigan,
the fabulous pair of pants...

these do not take well
to the runway.

Okay, let's move on to Irina.

I thought her things
looked really well made.

The looked modern to me,
with an edge.

She had, certainly,
the best sense of showmanship.

She knew how to punctuate it
with the hats.

I even loved it that the one hat
had the chain under the chin.

- I thought it was fantastic.
- [Heidi] They were all a bit different.

They were all a little different
but the same,

which is, again, a collection.

I liked the idea that it was
protective clothing that started it off.

The idea of armor and the helmets.

And yet, it didn't seem like that
the models were shrinking into the clothes,

protecting themselves from something.

It was a good turn of the way
she designed the clothes.

I do agree with you guys
in terms of that it was a bit dark.

- A little bit of color would've been nice.
- Unfortunately, let's be honest.

You're, like, "Okay, wait a minute.
Half of this... I'm kind of lost."

But, you know, she was
smart with the T-shirts...

- Very smart.
...because those clothes were

very ominous and very serious.

And then, suddenly,
oh, the T-shirt.

[Nina] It was almost like you were
peeling down the layers,

and there was something very intimate,
that on top of it, had a little message.

The piece that really throws me off
is the gown. I don't know.

- Do they feel obliged to end this way?
- [Heidi] That was a lot of work.

You know, the way an old-fashioned show
used to end with a bride.

So, do we have our decision?

I think so.

Yeah, absolutely.

Okay, let's bring out the designers.

Carol Hannah,

Althea,

Irina,

Irina,

in your show, you paid attention
to all of the details...

from accessories
to hair and makeup.

While we loved your collection,

we were disappointed
in your lack of color.

With even a bit of color,

your line really would've stood out.

Althea,

you have an amazing ability
to translate what's happening

on the street into fashion.

You went for futuristic,
and we're not entirely convinced

that you got there.

But...

you did give us modern staples
of a new generation.

- Good job.
- [Mouths words]

Carol Hannah,
you really always impress us

with your execution and meticulousness.

Of all the designers,
you played the best with color,

and we admired your collection's
strength and energy.

Thank you.

But it lacked a connective thread.

Carol Hannah.

I'm sorry. You're out.

I came to Project Runway

having no clue
what was gonna happen.

I didn't really set
any expectations, you know.

I just wanted to do my best
and just kind of go with it.

And I feel like
I did really well, so...

I mean, nobody gets to do this.

Who gets to do this?
It's crazy.

It's like simultaneously
the most bizarre

and most amazing experience
of my life.

Irina,

Althea,
