07x05 - Run For Cover

Post by bunniefuu »

Previously on Project Runway...

Your challenge is to create
this year's signature dress

for the Campbell's
"Address Your Heart" program.

Each of these amazing women
has been impacted by heart disease.

Jay, you're gonna make me pretty
'cause I survived, right?

These women are not 34-25-35.

[Seth Aaron]
This is honestly the largest challenge

I've ever faced as a designer.

Amy, you are the winner
of this challenge.

I'm sorry, Jesus.
That means you're out.

Janeane, you choose
which model will be in.

I choose Kasey.

Sorry, Sarah.

It's okay.

This is Project Runway.

Yes!

I am fashion. Look at me.

It's cut or be cut.

Just make it work.

Great clothes.

Great style.

I've got it all.

Three finalists will make it
to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

Well, I won't do anything to win.

I will.

But only one can be the winner.

My weapon of choice.

For these 16 designers,

Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.

The winner of Project Runway

will receive a fashion spread
in marie claire magazine,

an opportunity to sell
their line on bluefly. Com,

a $50,000 technology suite

to create, design, and run their business

from HP and Intel,

and $100,000 from L'Oréal Paris

to launch their line.

[Anthony]
Get up, Jay.

It's time for Bible study.

If you won't read the word,

I use it as a weapon.

- Get up.
- [Laughing]

[Anthony]
It felt really wonderful

to not be in the bottom three,

but one thing I figured out
about the bottom three

is that when you're in the bottom,

the only place that you can go is up.

Did you want tea,
or do you drink coffee?

[Anna Marie]
Being in the bottom three sucks,

but I know that really amazing things
are going to come

because I might be sweet,
but I am fierce.

One thing that's
a little disturbing to me and disheartening

is that after coming in second,

nobody was really very happy for me.

Nobody said congratulations.

Top two, top two.

[Softly]
Whoo.

I don't know what that's about.

Maybe it's about jealousy.

Maybe it's about they don't feel
like I should have been in the top.

I'm not really sure,

but it was kind of a big bummer.

- Come on, Jesse.
- I'm coming.

Let's go see
what this challenge is about.

Oh, I didn't check my hair. Oops.

- Hello.
- Hello, Heidi.

It's time for your next challenge.

Amy, you won the last challenge,

which gives you immunity,

and you cannot be eliminated
for this challenge.

Congratulations.

For your next challenge
you will be designing a look

that better be picture perfect.

Tim is going to take you
to a spectacular location

where he will introduce you
to a special guest

and fill you in on all of the details.

Good luck, and I'll see you
on the runway. Bye.

Bye, Heidi.

[Emilio] When Heidi announced
what the challenge was,

in my head I'm thinking

we're going to a photographer's studio.

We're going to look at old photographs

and try to recreate a look.

[Tim] Excited?

- Yes, very.
- Look at this place.

[Jesse]
So we arrive at the Hearst Building,

and it's just open
and bright and beautiful.

The whole thing is just an amazing look,

so I'm super excited

just to see what it is
we're going to do here

Designers, it is a sincere honor
for me for me to introduce you

to Joanna Coles, Editor-In-Chief
of marie claire magazine.

[Designer]
Wow.

Joanna, thank you
for letting us come.

Oh, my pleasure.

And welcome to the Hearst Building.

This is where our office is.

Designers, before Joanna continues,

I want you to know

that this challenge

is one of the biggest in
the history of Project Runway,

and the reward for the winner
of the challenge is unprecedented.

[Coles]
So the challenge is to design an outfit

to be worn by a celebrity

to appear on the cover...

- [designers gasp]
- Of marie claire.

The cover.

- Wow.
- Whoo.

The opportunity to be
on the cover of marie claire.

It's once in a lifetime.

It's something that I feel

like has so much potential
for boosting your career,

so ultimately if I win this,

I'm just going to be in heaven.

The winning look will appear
on the April cover of marie claire.

In the last year,

the designers who have been featured
on the covered

have included Versace,
Dolce and Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Gucci,

just to name a few.

You'll be in that company.

Oh, my God.

Now, there are some key rules
when you're designing for a cover.

It's not just about the outfit.

You have to think about the crop.

We usually go from sort of thigh
or waist upward,

so if you're putting detail in that,

probably needs to be on the top part.

You need to bear in mind

that we want to put
cover lines on the outfit,

so think about color.

We would never do black,

and I think patterns can be tricky

because you want to get
words on there.

It's going to be an April cover,

so what will the season be like?

What will they be wearing?

The reader normally takes
about three seconds

to decide which magazine
to pick off the newsstand,

so it needs to be eye-catching,

strong, confident, sexy,

and can I tell them who the celebrity is?

I'd love you to.

The celebrity is
none other than Heidi Klum.

[Designers gasp]

- That's huge.
- Like wow.

So not only do we get a cover
of one of the best fashion magazines,

we get one of the best supermodels
in the entire world

to wear the look. It's amazing.

- Good luck, guys.
- [Designer] Thank you, Joanna.

Thank you.

[Tim] All right, designers,

you have 30 minutes to sketch,

and I'm pleased to see
that you've already started,

and how exciting is this?

One of you will have
your design on Heidi Klum

on the cover of marie claire magazine.

You have one day for this challenge.

I'll be back in 30 minutes.

- [Designer] Thank you, Tim.
- [Tim] Thank you.

My God, if my dress can be
on the cover of marie claire magazine,

I want it to say Mila.

Designing for Heidi Klum
is a dream come true

and completely intimidating.

I mean, when the garment
comes down the runway,

she's right there.

I choose an icy-color palette,

sort of silver and light blue

and charcoal gray

because I think that those are colors
that could really stand out on her.

I want to design a dress
that is form-fitted,

short but not slutty.

I'm really going to focus on color.

That's going to be a huge statement

as far as catching somebody's eye,

you know, just from walking
by a newsstand,

and I really want someone
to see just a glimpse of it

and want to see more.

All right, designers, we're going to Mood,

so bring whatever you need with you,

and we will have a good shopping
experience, all right?

Designers, I have your $150 budget,

and you will have

Everyone, your time will begin
right now.

And they're off.

Oh, no, no, no, no...

How much is this stuff here?

I'm picking blues
and turquoise and greens.

I'm not quite sure about the mix of colors,

but I'm just grabbing...

Can I get two yards of this, please?

...grabbing...
- Half a yard of this.

...grabbing...

Yeah, that'll be enough. Thank you.

Designers, you have
one minute remaining.

All right, everybody,
one minute to get in line.

Whoa. Whoa.

$128 is your total.

Thank you, Mood.

- [Designers] Thank you.
- Thank you.

All right, designers,
you have until midnight tonight,

and you know the morning drill.

There will be very little time.

All right, thank you.

Make it work. I'll see you later.

[Amy] Time is absolutely
becoming more and more of a factor

as we move on.

It just feels even crazier
because the stakes are high.

You get to have your design
on a cover of a magazine,

and here you go, you have one day
to put it all together.

So the winner gets the cover

of marie claire magazine,
which is so huge,

so everybody is just completely
in the zone.

It's pretty quite
around the room right now.

[Anthony]
The mood in the workroom is quiet.

It is busy, and that's a reality that
everybody's trying to make it work.

[Seth Aaron] I'm going to go to sleep
if it remains this quiet in here.

[Humming]
Hoo-ah.

[Jay]
Seth Aaron is very immature,

and he just doesn't stop,

no matter how many times
you have to tell him, like, "Just shut up."

[Muttering, singing]

[Snapping fingers]

D Design... d

I wish he would stop.

I shake one hell of a martini.

Lots of '80s rock.
I like lots of '80s pop rock.

Some people just don't know
how to just work, chill,

and just let your garment
do your talking.

Seth Aaron, he just needs
to bring it down a notch.

[Muttering]
Sketch pad, sketch pad.

Did you smoke anything
besides a cigarette

when you went outside?

[Scoffs]
No.

Take your word for it.

The biggest problem that
I'm having is the magenta

is looking fuchsia,

so I started just playing around

with the black metallic nylon that I have

and the fuchsia linen,

and it's actually looking
better than the sketch.

- That's really striking.
- Thank you.

- Oh, we got a new iron.
- New iron.

So you're already in fabric. Wow.

Well, that's not amazing. Trust me.

I have a ways to go.

I've taken a lot of the things
that the judges are telling me at this point,

but I can't afford to beat myself up

No matter what,
I want to design something

that speaks volumes about Anthony

[Mila] Anthony is using
a really bright turquoise,

and, funny enough,

Anna's using a very
similarly bright turquoise.

Yikes.

[Anna]
I have never made three pieces before

I've only ever made one,

so what possessed me to try

to try to make three pieces
in nine hours,

I'm not quite sure.

The pressure's really on.

[Mutters]

[Bleep]

I'm looking at my colors.
I'm looking at my shell pinks

and my cream colors,

and it's starting to look very bridal,

and I don't do bridal,

like I'm going along and I'm thinking

I should be doing the opposite
of what I'm doing,

you know, like this sort of intuitive

"Damn it, Janeane,
don't blow this."

Coming up on Project Runway...

Getting to be pretty short.

I mean, you don't want it
to look like clown clothes.

That worries me.

It is serious freak out.

How did that happen?

[Anna]
Are you making a dress?

No, I'm making a space suit.

This challenge means
more to me than anything

to this point in my career.

I mean, competing
for a major national cover

is unprecedented,

so it's very important to me

that I create something
that I can really see winning.

With every challenge
I get better and better

about dealing with time constraints,

but this particular challenge
is kind of frustrating

because the reward is huge,

and I want my construction
to be immaculate.

I don't like that seam at all.

I am trying not to emote the dread

that is boiling up in my stomach.

I should have a point of view,

and I just feel like... I don't.

I'm probably going to screw myself.

[Ben]
Anna, how's the three pieces going?

[Anna]
Oh, my God. It's okay.

I just really need a fitting.

So here I'm working on the shorts,
and I think to myself,

these need to be really beautifully made

because I've had
craftsmanship issues in the past,

and I really want to have that
not be part of my future.

I'm doing a jacket,

a top, and her pants under this.

[Anthony]
Seth Aaron, you are, like, so talented.

Everybody can sew, dude, in here.

My biggest competition at this point

is probably half the people in that room.

I feel like Emilio's
definitely really strong,

and he's got a lot of experience.

I feel the same way about Mila.

Even though I don't really
love her aesthetic.

I feel like the judges do.

I haven't really seen
any great competition

for me in this challenge so far.

Jay and Maya have some interesting
things going on,

and, yeah, I mean,
that's about all I can tell so far.

How is everybody?

Phew, working.

[Tim]
Really?

You don't sound so good.

You sound worn out.

I'm just in here to check in with you all,

and I'm going to start with Anthony.

[Sighs]
See?

That's what I mean about the response.

Hi, Tim.

How are you?

I know I don't sound
like my usual chipper self.

This is an intense challenge.

Furthermore,
Heidi's going to wear this look.

Right. I wanted to do a short dress,

but I didn't want it to be formal.

Can you just give me
an idea of what it's going to look like?

Well, that's the thing, Tim.

I don't completely know
what it's going to look like.

I just start cutting the strips out.

That worries me.

I don't want you just to gimmick it up.

I don't want you to do this
for the sake of doing it.

- Right.
- Use that editing eye.

You can take something off

and not hurt the integrity
of the look, don't do it.

- Okay.
- Okay, carry on.

I will.

- Mila.
- Hi, Tim.

I'm eager to see what you're doing.

I'm doing a dress out of stretch wools,

peach, beige, cream,
light gray, dark gray,

and, you know, it's basically
a low V in the front.

It's going to come around to, like,
a sort of a...

echoing the mitering,

- a little V in the back.
- Mm-hm.

All right, so it's your signature certainly,

all this color blocking.

- Work, work.
- Okay.

- Thanks, Mila.
- Thank you.

- How's Janeane doing?
- Hi, Tim.

So I picked a lot of light blues
and "oceany" colors

And how are you using these?

Well, I want to layer them

so it looks like sort of
just waves or something and then...

But this spewing out factor...

Is that really you?

Well, you know,
it's the fifth challenge,

and I haven't met the judges yet.

That could be a blessing.

No... I know...
I understand that, but...

Look, I am getting further ahead,

but it's like I'm not that great,
but I'm not that bad.

All right, because I know...

You don't want it to look
like clown clothes.

- I know when to...
- Okay.

...come back a little bit.

- Thank you.
- Thank you, Tim. Okay, wonderful.

Well, I certainly see color.

Yes, yes.
[Laughs]

I'm definitely working with color.

The concept is kind of like
Madame Butterfly on acid.

So it's one piece.

It will be one piece, yeah,

and then the belt
will just separate it,

which I'm doing in the metallic leather.

I just fear that it could potentially
cheapen it...

Okay.

...and make it into a joke.

So with that in mind
as you're working with it,

just keep asking yourself
the same question.

Because I'm really with you
on everything else.

- Carry on, Ben.
- Thank you.

Thank you.

- Anna.
- Hi, Tim.

So talk to me.
What are you doing?

I kind of like the juxtaposition of
more of a cooler fabric

with more of a feminine...

But do you feel this is you?

Yeah, I do. I do.

So there's going to be
this pair of shorts, also,

that completes the bottom half.

Hm. And how short are the shorts?

You know, they're going to be pretty short.

All right, don't lose
your editing eye on this.

Okay. Thank you, Tim.

All right, Anna. Thank you.

- Emilio.
- Hi, Tim.

- Color.
- Yes.

- I'm creating a short little c*ck dress.
- Okay.

And then I got this ombré lacing.

As nice as this ombré is,

I don't think anyone's going to notice

that it's going to be...
that they're different colors.

Well, what I'm going to do
is I'm going to lace it

and then leave them
the length of the dress.

You're emphasizing the neckline
using this corseting lacing.

- Yes?
- Yes.

Don't get in a position
where you can't do this

because that is the wow factor.

- That is the wow factor.
- Exactly.

- Thank you, sir.
- Thank you.

All right, designers,
I'm leaving you for the night,

and I will say that I'm leaving you
for the night reluctantly

- Make it work, everybody.
- [Designers] Thank you, Tim.

See you tomorrow.

All right, let me
sew some stitches in this

and then just see where we're at.

So Alexis arrives for the model fitting,

and I've got basically
the front piece of the dress finished,

so at least I'm in a good place.

I can hold it up and see

how the basket weave
kind of works around her curves.

[Jay] Basically when you're
looking at the back, it's this long.

[Monique]
Ooh, that's cool.

The color that I'm using
is really muted.

I don't know. I just wanted to do
something really feminine and sexy.

- Hi, Heidi.
- [Laughing]

Heidi embodies that kind of persona.

Cerri comes in,
and I'm a little horrified

by how off I was on the shorts.

The shorts are not a good fit,

and I also begin to freak out

because I can see that there's not
a whole lot of time left.

[Emilio] I see that Anna might
need to really pay attention

to her hem
and the fit of her garment,

and she had very limited experience,

so we'll see what she turns out.

[Anthony]
Thank you, hot stuff.

- It's so pretty.
- Oh, I love you, too.

Bye.

[Mila] Oh, good, nobody
dared go near my machine.

[Jay]
Mila... there's something about her

that's, you know, kind of fake

and not so sincere.

It's time for
some major assembly here.

[Emilio]
Nothing bothers me about Mila the person.

What bothers me
about Mila the designer

is that she really
comes off as very c*ck

when all she's doing
is color blocking in every challenge.

She's a one-note wonder.

This is the back

because they sure do look
the same to me at this point.

I just feel like
there's so little time in this challenge,

and I need to be really focused.

I mean, I'm here to win.

Let me think, let me think, let me think.

Right now I'm concerned
about my look

because I want it to do something special.

However, I'm not exactly sure
how to work through my dress,

so I wish they would give us more time
in this challenge,

but life isn't fair, so why the hell
should Project Runway be?

Oh, my God, it's 11:50.

How did that happen?

So at the end of the day
I'm in shock.

I need to finish my skirt.
I need to do the hem.

It is serious freak out.

[Emilio]
As the night ends,

I know I made a huge mistake

because it already looks
too short on the dress form.

Unfortunately, I don't have time
to re-cut this entire dress,

so I'm just going to have
to see what the judges say.

[Anna]
It's midnight, and I'm really worried

about how things are going.

I just really am trying to
work as fast as possible

to get everything done on time.

Okay, I'm done.

Wait for me, b*tches.

Coming up on Project Runway...

We're going down
to the runway right now.

I'm in a mode of hysteria.

Oh, come on.

I just want to get out of this alive.

Ay yi yi, there's going
to be a blood bath on the runway today.

Yeah, this is going to be a carnival.

Mila, top three.

We're going to be in the top three again?

Yeah.

Ooh, Shiva.

[Grumbles]

Oh, you're not gonna get up.

The prize
in this particular challenge

is truly a platform for greatness,

so it is very important to me.

Anna, I have a feeling
that our time is running out.

I have a hunch that Anna and I

completely missed the mark
on this one,

and it might come down
between the two of us.

- Oh, I lot of work to do.
- So do I.

No, I got it.

[Laughing]

I have quite a lot of finishing
to do on the shorts.

I'm, like, in a mode of hysteria.

I'm feeling like I'm
pretty much on target.

I think Heidi's going to
look amazing in my dress.

I am nowhere near being done.

I mean, I have been nowhere
near being done before,

but this is like... this is serious.

- [Tim] Designers.
- Yeah.

This is the biggest challenge

in the history of Project Runway,

so I want you all focusing
on these garments

and making them absolute perfection, okay?

You have an hour each
to send your model

to the Garnier Hair Salon
and the L'Oréal Paris makeup room.

I assume you're all using
the bluefly.com wall?

Yes? Good.

Thank you.
I'm sending in your models.

[Designers]
Thank you.

All right, we're cool.

Oh, you'll be fine
once I put the zipper on.

To be able to have Heidi
wear my dress

for the cover of marie claire magazine...
that's... it's amazing.

Everyone wants this so badly,
everyone.

Nice smoky gray eye.

I don't want anything dark or costumey,

all the adjectives
they use to describe me.

[Man]
Once it gets past the earlobes,

that's when the volume starts.

Make it edgy.

Designers,
you and your models and I

are going down to the runway
in ten minutes.

- Thank you.
- [Designer] Thank you.

The dress did pretty much
come out the way I envisioned.

Had I had more time,

I probably would've added
more volume to the neckline,

but I'm feeling so confident.

I think that the couple of designers
who will have trouble,

a lot of their colors are not colors
that are going to resonate.

People have these
really muted tans and taupes.

It's just going to wash out.

Okay, good, good, good.

If I could go back and do
this whole thing over again,

I would've gone
in a completely different direction.

[Beep]

...pedals broke.

Oh, come on.

I just want to get out of this alive.

Yes.

[Anthony]
I'm very happy about my dress.

A part of me thinks,
"Lord, what if they don't like this dress?"

But at this point,

I've got to be consistent with myself.

I made a decision that I was going
to make something that I loved,

and I have got to
remain faithful to that thought process.

You did a really great job.
It came out really nice.

Thank you.

Having Lorena dressed,
and then having her

in hair and makeup and everything,

the whole look ties together.

I'm wondering, you know, maybe this
is the one. This could be my moment.

Yeah. I'm happy.

Designers and models, this is it.

We're going down
to the runway right now.

This way.

Thank you.

Coming up on Project Runway...

It's like three ingredients

that leave you feeling nauseous.

This would not work at all.

You know we've never
done this before.

Welcome to the runway.

As you know, in fashion,
one day you're in,

and the next day, you're out.

Your challenge was to design an outfit

for the cover of marie claire magazine.

The winning designer's look
will be on the April cover,

and they will be worn by yours truly.

[Laughing]

Okay, let's meet the judges.

First we have top American designer
Michael Kors.

Hey, guys.

Fashion Director
for marie claire magazine,

- Nina Garcia.
- Hello, everyone.

And Editor-in-Chief
for marie claire magazine, Joanna Coles.

Hi.

We will score your designs
as they come down the runway.

One of you will be named the winner,

and one of you will be out.

Let's start the show.

[Amy]
I'm happy with my garment.

I think that Holly looks great.

I think that it does look
like a spring look,

and I'm actually happy
that I'm the only one that used a print,

which I completely think
is appropriate on a cover.

If they put my suit
on the front of marie claire

with Heidi Klum wearing it,

I guarantee you they sell more copies.

I'm 300°/° happy.

I think I definitely fulfilled this challenge
to the fullest.

It's really a dress that's going to catch
somebody's eye on a cover

Ultimately everything kind of dissipates

into just a big smile
and relief and happiness,

and I feel like I just showed
exactly what I am.

As I watch Cerri walk down the runway,

I really feel like the look

is a reflection
of who I am as a designer.

Heidi is cool and contemporary.

That version of her I can see
being interested in this look.

When she turned that corner,
I'm like, "Yes, ma'am.

Get into it."

I found a balance
between creating the volume

as well as showing off
a beautiful silhouette.

I don't know if it's
the best dress up there,

but I think I did my job beautifully.

Had some issues with bulk,

but I think fulfilled
the vision that I'd had going into this.

I feel really great about my dress.

I think it looks great on Brandise.

I'm just a little concerned about the color

because I thought
I was selecting a peach,

and on the runway it appears
to be more of a beige.

The color is amazing.
The detail... it's spectacular.

My dress was put together,

and Heidi will look hot in my dress.

If I were to win this prize,

it really would be huge.

I'm so proud of myself

that I came up with something
so graceful and "flowy"

and romantic and sexy.

There's just something
so dramatic about that dress

that I love.

This design moves.

It looks like butter.

It just... You can just look at it

and see the comfort of this garment.

It's so well crafted.

Every seam and edge is lying flat,

and I think that the romper

would be a knockout on a cover.

Megan looks so good in the dress.

She looks stunning,

and the color ended up being
so nice on her.

I'm really pleased,

and I think it would look
great on a magazine cover.

I couldn't have asked

for the color to look
any more saturated and vibrant,

and I think the thing
that excites me the most

is that it really is a fresh new take.

It's something different,

and it ended up being a cover look,

so just keeping my fingers crossed.

If I call your name, please step forward.

Seth Aaron.

Jay.

Maya, please step forward.

Jesse.

Jonathan.

Amy.

If I have called your name,

congratulations.

Your scores have qualified you
to move on to the next challenge.

You can leave the runway.

Thank you.

The six of you have the highest
and the lowest scores.

One of you will be named the winner,

and one of you will be out.

Let's bring out your models.

Ben, tell us about your look,

and why do you think
it will work for our cover?

The idea's kind of like a modern
interpretation of Madame Butterfly

in Technicolor,

so I wanted to really use vibrant colors
and a lot of textures.

It kind of acts as a kimono,

but it still functions as a dress.

A newsstand is a very noisy place,

and I think this cuts through the noise.

It's a good choice.

It feels very modern.

I like the combination of the colors,

and it's as beautiful from the front
as it is from the back.

[Heidi] I think you did
a beautiful back on this dress,

you know,
with the little peek-a-boo,

and then you edged it out
with the yellow.

It definitely has an impact.

I think it's going to be worn
by someone who's very confident.

It's a real contender.

Thank you so much.

Anna, tell us about your look.

Well, I started sort of
with a color palette

that I thought would complement
your natural coloring

and immediately thought of blue.

I also wanted to reference
that the reader of marie claire

that is sort of contemporary and hip
and a little bit feminine

but not completely
whimsical in a sense.

It's going to be on Heidi,
who has an incredible figure,

and this gives her no shape
or silhouette whatsoever.

It's like three ingredients in a dish

that leave you feeling
slightly nauseous.

It just doesn't work together.

This is not a teen magazine.

I think you totally missed
what is this magazine about,

who is their reader,

and who am I putting this on.

Speaking about the pieces themselves,

I think that they're made well,

but I don't think you pushed
the envelope enough.

Anthony, tell us about your look.

I was truly inspired by you.

I thought about every time
that you have graced this carpet

and what you're wearing.

I wanted clean lines,

and I wanted a very feminine silhouette

because I did play in my mind,

"She's no longer
going to be pregnant,"

so I'm sure you wanted
to celebrate your figure.

The costume drama is over.

You've entered modern times.

[Laughs]

[Kors]
This dress is modern looking.

That length is great for her,

and you did one shoulder in a new way.

I do like this dress very much for Heidi.

- Um...
- Jesus.

...and you are
one of the few designers

that embraces color.

The color is fantastic.

If that's where
next spring's going to be,

then just beam me there.

The way you place this,

it's actually very slimming,

so her body looks beautiful.

- Thank you.
- Janeane, tell us about your look.

I was really inspired
by the ocean and the colors of the sea,

and I created this structured dress

with these seashell-inspired seams lines

with a small, sort of frothy little bolero.

She's got, like, the seaweed organza.

She's got 9,000 seams,

all of that going on,

and then I'm going to lay
whatever their cover lines are

on top of it.

I'm going to pass it by.

It's not, to me, fashion forward.

It's not like what women in America
will look at marie claire, and like,

"Wow, she looks hot,

you know, I want to be that woman."

I'm not getting the beach
and the sea reference

unless it's a sort of polluted sea
with plastic bottles in it.

This veers to romantic, to bridal.

It's just too sweet all around.

When I see Heidi,
I don't necessarily see her as sweet.

No.

[Others laugh]

Mila, tell us about your look.

I wanted something strong,

feminine, but still soft,

and I just thought

this would be really
slimming at the waist.

Rather than a strong color

I decided to take a chance
and go for something fresh and late.

Let's be honest. That peach comes off
like Ace Bandage,

and then once you crop her,

she's literally in some kind of weird
jog bra with a V-neck.

And these arrows look
like they're pointing at her crotch.

I mean, this would not work at all.

That color doesn't feel confident.

It feels like it's trying to disappear.

It looked much peachier
when it was in my hands.

Emilio, tell us about your look.

Well, I wanted a very sexy, strong color

and very interesting detail
from the waist up,

so I chose the silk jersey

and teamed it with ombré lacing.

It's not the easiest thing in the world
to make jersey structured,

and I have to say

that you managed to take fabric
that doesn't want to do that,

and you made it work.

You could get
a very strong cover with it.

Will this dress beckon people
to grab the magazine?

I do love the color.

I think the detail is beautiful,

but with those little ribbons going up,

it just feels very junior to me.

Just these things right here.

[Laughs]
Here it goes.

[Kors]
Cut the whole strap off. I'm just curious.

The whole damn strap, just watch.

It's more sophisticated by a long shot.

[Heidi]
Open the ponytail.

Yeah, let's get rid of the...

[laughs]

You know, we've never done this before.

Seriously.

Yeah, it's great.

Thank you very much.

Okay, we've heard
what you had to say.

We're going to have a little chat,
and then I'll call you back.

You can leave the runway.
Thank you.

Okay, let's start with the designers
that weren't as strong...

Janeane.

It's so weird that she would design
this dress for you.

[Heidi]
It's not my style at all.

You said strength. That's the opposite.

Whimsical and "mermaidy,"
but not a cover dress.

Okay, let's move on to Anna.

That was dreadful.

There's nothing special about this.

I'm not sure what her point of view is.

Granted, she made separates.

She managed to make those shorts.

- They were well made.
- [Kors] They were well made.

Okay, let's move on to Mila.

The main color of the dress
was the color of hospital food.

I would probably have to
put on a lot of self-tanner,

get really tan,

in order to fight...

- This color.
...this color.

You would recede
right back in this dress,

and I think people would walk on by.

Let's move on to the ones
that we did like.

Let's start with Emilio.

There were a lot of things
there that were good,

but it had to be sort of redesigned.

Once you got rid of those silly ties
that were on her shoulder,

I think cleavage, color, a nice line,

all of those things
I think are great for you.

I liked the fact that he had
his scissors in his pocket,

and he was quite happy
to chop them off.

Honestly, when you're doing a cover,

you need a designer
to be able to do that.

Okay, let's move on to Ben.

I think Ben did a very modern,
very chic dress.

I think this would be
very eye-catching on the newsstand.

- Definitely.
- I agree.

It's fantastic that Ben showed
this kind of confidence.

Right.

Okay, let's move on to Anthony.

He thought about your coloring,
your figure.

It's got a lot of charm
about it, this dress,

makes me feel glad spring's here.

[Kors] Even if you were
really cropped on that,

the strap itself is interesting enough

that it has dimension and texture.

Okay, so we've made
our decision?

Good. Let's bring them back out.

[Heidi]
One of you will have your design

on the cover of marie claire magazine,

and one of you will be out.

One of you will have your design

on the cover of marie claire magazine,

and one of you will be out.

I want to remind you that this
is one of the biggest rewards

we've ever had for
a Project Runway challenge,

and since the reward is so great,

the winner will not have immunity
for the next challenge.

Anthony...

you are the winner of this challenge.

For real?

Did she say my name?

The color and design details
are right on.

I really can't wait to wear it on the cover
of marie claire magazine.

Oh, thank you so much.

Congratulations.
You can leave the runway.

Thank you.

Guess whose dress will be on the front
of marie claire magazine.

I think at this moment,

the judges' eyes are open,

and I think that they see
that I have taken

things, the critiques,
that they have said to me,

and I'm using them to my benefit,

and the sky's the limit
for me at this moment.

Ben, great job. You're in.

- You can leave the runway.
- Thank you.

Emilio, you're in.
You can leave the runway.

Thank you very much.

Mila, you're in.
You can leave the runway.

Thank you.

Anna and Janeane,

one of you will be out.

Janeane, you had
a very interesting inspiration,

but the look does not live up to it.

It felt more bridal
than fashion forward.

Anna, the vest and shorts outfit
is forgettable,

and it would not stand out
on a crowded newsstand.

Anna...

you're out.

That means, Janeane, you're in.

Give me a hug.

I think you're wonderful.

You can leave the runway, Janeane.

- Thank you.
- Thank you very much.

Auf Wiedersehen.

All the best to you.

Thank you so much.

[Designers]
Oh, Anna.

I'm sad that I've been eliminated,

but I'm so proud of myself.

Being here and being around
so many amazing designers

is really just such
an amazing thing.

Anna, I have to send you
to the workroom to clean up your space.

[Anna]
I know.

You should feel so proud
of what you've achieved here.

- Thank you.
- All right.

We'll miss you, Anna.

Bye, Anna.

Ultimately I'll take
with me a confidence

in who I am as a designer,

and I know that really amazing things
are going to come

because they already have.

Next time on Project Runway...

For your next challenge,

you will have new models.

Oh, crap.

This is going to be a nightmare.

Hey, I'm flying!

- What the...
- [children shouting]

The workroom is a little bit
like Romper Room on crack.

Do y'all have a "off' switch?

Looks like the house was on fire

and she grabbed every garment
in the house,

and she just ran out of the house.

It looks like a cheap mall outfit.

Those are just a train wreck.
