[Tami] For me, most of all, that was like
the hardest weekend
'cause I totally hated it.
I was totally feeling that I was being pushed over.

I'm happy about it now because it showed
that I could go that far with myself.
And I wanted to apologize to Aaron, most of all
because of the argument.
No, I'm not gonna shut up
and let me tell you somethin' about you.
You don't congratulate anybody, you think you're the best--

It came out-it came out of left field somewhere.

So, I-I do apologize for that.
And in case everybody didn't already know
by now, um, that I'm pregnant.

all of a sudden, Tami says
"You know, I wonder if this is good for a pregnant woman."
- Are you really? - Uh-huh.
Aaron was like, "Are you serious, Tami?"
And, uh, she was like, "Yeah."
That's really what made this weekend
like, the hardest for me, because knowing that fact
'and trying to still just, you know..'
[Dominic] 'Trying to scale a mountain.'

Yeah, and, um
'I just kinda wanted everybody to know'
that I've made a decision
that I'm going to..
...terminate the pregnancy.

And it was like, a really hard decision for me
to-to make that decision but..

'It's your decision.'
'Cause I know you had and you..
...don't really agree with that.
[Dominic] ab*rtion is not something that you can really joke about.
I guess you could call it a necessary evil in life.

Then you're dealing with
I mean, you go into something
the supreme court can't decide over.

[Glen] I believe that it's a woman's choice
to decide what she does
but I know too many girls that have had ab*rtion
and regretted it later.
There are also a couple of them who can't have kids now
because of it and now they want kids
and they can't have kids.

for our bodies to strengthen us in the upcoming weeks.

[Tami] Finding out that I was pregnant
was a big downer for me
because at this particular point in time in my life
I'm-I'm not ready for kids.
I think that Tami's making a mistake.
I consider myself to still be a kid myself.
I think she's..
...you know, covering a mistake by making another mistake.
Tami's obviously made up her mind.
And I have a different opinion
but, by me telling her that, day in, day out
that's not gonna help matters.
If I were to get pregnant right now
I would get an ab*rtion.
'I can agree with ab*rtion'
within the first trimester
But anything after that, I don't agree with.
[Beth] I don't like it when people use ab*rtion
as their form of birth control.
I mean, I know girls
who just keep doing it over and over and over again.
I don't agree with that at all.
When I do have sex, I practice safe sex.
And if I, if I were to get pregnant..

If you follow God's plan
you don't have sex till you get married
everything's fine because you plan it out
and that's the way it should be.
Marriage is ideally not for me.

you don't wanna settle down when you're like ,
with this one person for the rest of your life.
I think that you should venture out
and experience everything
and then settle down at a later age.
That way, it's like you're buying it from me.
My mother and I basically grew up together.
She had me when she was and a half.
We're like sisters
I don't even consider her my mother.
It's just like, we're best friends
and I confide in her with certain issues
that a normal teenager probably wouldn't tell their mother.
This is my mom and this is my aunt Marissa and that's--

[Tami] When I found out that I was pregnant I first had to decide
how I was gonna tell my mom.
She was really not happy about it.
I was very pissed off.
And the reason that I was upset with her
is because she works in a health care center
primarily dealing with HIV and A*DS patients.
And there are condoms all over that facility.
I should know all the values of safe sex.
And I really couldn't understand
how she could allow this to happen to her
especially through all the teachings
and conversations
that we have had over the past years.
And I was devastated.
She just totally..
...is very upset with my at this particular time.

'let her have an ab*rtion.'
It makes me sick to my stomach to-to think

I remember the time when Erin was visiting
and her and Jon had gotten
into a conversation about ab*rtion.
I'm pro-life for myself
but I'm definitely pro-choice for the rest of the world.
Not everyone has the opportunity
you had growing up and everything else.
It still doesn't make anything right.
It doesn't make it right.
It's not a matter of what you think is right or wrong
it's what you give other people to choose.
That's all about America, freedom, you know?
You can't force your opinion on someone else.
I'm not forcing my opinion on someone.

you're not giving the baby any choice at all.
If you wanna talk about pro-choice
give the baby the choice.
I haven't met an aborted baby yet that says

Jon and I have actually talked about it a couple of times.
I think the best thing for me to do would be

to keep telling her she's wrong either.

I thought that Tami's mom was basically just like Tami.
She was laughing and silly and having a good time.

We have experienced a lot of things together.
If I had to name anything
it would be one particular situation
where we were forced to be homeless.
[Tami] When my mother lost her job
and we were forced out of our home
we had to live in her Toyota for about three months.
Um, we were washing up in gas station restrooms
and barely eating, just trying to survive.
Tami occasionally would spend nights
with her best girlfriend.
And then she would feel that I wasn't safe
and she would come and sleep in the car with me.
I was in the th grade at the time.
I was getting ready for graduation.
And she was concerned about getting her diploma.
Where would we get money for cap and gown.
[Tami] Being in that situation
where you have absolutely nothing
makes you strive for everything.
Everything that you've ever wanted.
You work exceptionally hard to get it.
Tami had expressed to me, she says
"Well, Mom, whether I get the cap and gown or not
"if I have to go in sneakers and jeans and t-shirt
"I'm going across to get it
"because this is something
"that you have sacrificed your life for.
"You've worked very hard for me
and I think I deserve to make you proud."
When she said that to me, it like, set sparks off
and-and I was more determined
to really get our-our lives back together.
And my mother did not give up.
She worked hard and she got us back on top.

They had some great looking guys on the basketball team.

[Tami] I have talked in further detail
with my mom about my pregnancy termination.
And she has accepted that I made a mistake.
Uh, to her and to me
I'm making the right decision
um, about rectifying it.
I'm not looking forward to it
but I know it's something that has to be done.

[Aaron] I used to say ab*rtion should be ill*gal
but I-I think that's unrealistic.
There's a lot of social ills that we can't
think that we can correct just through legislation.
I think the biggest point is this issue is that
you need to be responsible for your actions
and that's what it boils down to.

the first thing that hit my mind
was that I wanted it to be over very quickly.
I just didn't wanna fill out any paperwork
I didn't wanna talk to anybody
I just wanted to go straight and have it done
and go back home.

I brought cash.
[female receptionist] You need to fill these out
and bring them up as soon as you're done.

[female doctor] 'Have you ever been hospitalized for any medical problems?'
- No. - Operations or illnesses?

'Your diabetes, that's controlled by diet?'
[Tami] 'Mm-hm.'
Who in your family has diabetes?
My father.
[female doctor] 'Are you driving her home today?'
Yes, I am.
Okay.
Will I be allowed to go in with her?
'No, because we have other patients back there.'
We have to protect their confidentiality.
- 'Okay?' - Fine.
- 'Any other questions?' - No.
I don't think I could've
talked Tami out of-of her choice.
I did say to her
"Maybe you should consider having the child."
She clearly said to me
"I am not ready to be a mother.
I am not financially secure."
And at that point
I felt a need to support her
in her decision and her choice.
Okay.
She needs to go home and get some Advil
or some Tylenol
and that'll help her.
- Okay. - And some food.
- 'You okay? Give me a hug.' - 'Don't worry.'
You okay?
- Hmm? - No. Sick.
[Tami] After having the surgery
my body was just tired
and I was hurting
and I just wanted to go home and rest.
- 'Want me to carry you?' - No.

You gotta sit up so you can take this.
[Tami] After the surgery, I was in excruciating pain
throwing up a lot, bleeding heavily.
And I thought instantly
that maybe I had made the wrong decision
and I was being punished for it.
Um..
And then I had to come to grips
with my decision
and realize that it was the best decision for me
at this point in time in my life.
And after the pain
came the guilt and the hurt of it all.
ab*rtion was not legal in .
They did not become legal until April of .
If it had been legal
I probably would've had an ab*rtion.
But as I think back on it today
I have a very lovely daughter.
She has made me who I am today.
I'm glad that they were not legal at that time.

and it scares the hell out of me.
I'm getting cotton mouth.

Do you realize what this can do to my life?
If you believe pro-choice, that's fine.
And-and I mean, I don't agree with that
but I'll respect your opinion on that.
But I don't think you can say, "Well, I'm pro-choice here
and I'm pro-life here."
[Tami] 'No, she has one opinion..'
- For herself. - For herself.
But she's saying for all
the other millions of women in the world
they have the right to choose.
But for her, she wouldn't do it.
- 'Exactly.' - And the argument is what?
There wasn't an argu..
