Betsey Johnson talked to us

about being cohesive.

It's kind of depressing.

If it's a collection, it has

to have pants, shorts, something

dressier, and a gown.

Okay.

We're trying to create this

collection and we want a little

bit of everything.

What is our team name?

Something off of the inkblot

thing.

Something off of insanity.

Chaos?

Chaos.

It has a real click to it.

Let's do that.

Okay.

I'm really happy to be in a

group that is harmonious.

We have Village People, we

have sea amoeba, high-end, and

we have dreams and clocks.

Clocks? Really?

Like, what is that?

You want to vote, Josh?

I mean, probably clocks.

As far as color scheme or

whatever that we want to try to

stay in for the clock, I love a

good black and white.

Do we want to throw a color

pop in there somewhere?

We all have to sit down to

make a plan, so put all the

[bleep] damn color you want on

it.

Joshua don't give a [bleep].

Great.

I plan in a couple weeks to

be putting my own collection

together, and I will be doing

that flying solo by myself.

What is the inspiration for

that--that direction?

Nuts and bolts.

Two for nuts and bolts.

Let's do it, nuts and bolts.

Okay.

If I was leading this, my

vision would be the one that we

were executing at this point,

but that is not happening.

Some of my other team members

are already working on designs

specifically inspired by our

idea.

I just want to look at it on a

very graphic level and let it

flow from there.

We kind of decided on a time

and clocks theme, so I designed

a print with cogs and wheels.

The fabric designs that I am

working on are basically

old-fashioned pocket watches

that a conductor would have used

on a train, and this is a good

challenge to go outside the box.

Are we gonna try to do ten

yards of one print or are we

gonna try to do--

I think we should just stick

with black and white here.

I do too.

The fact that I haven't won a

challenge, I think, makes my

other team members look at me in

a way that they have to make

sure that I can design.

It's just frustrating.

This is, like, what the

fabric will look like, when we

go like this.

And it'll actually come out

to be a scale like this.

The other prints seem a little

casual in comparison to the

sharpness of my print.

We can't come up with a cohesive

anything, so we just pick.

Bert, did you print any of

yours out?

I'm printing some now.

They're in there, but I'm just

waiting.

Should we vote on what we

It's just all this drama over

very little that I find sort of

amateurish and, um, totally

beneath me.

I am probably more upset with

Don't let it happen.

I know that Joshua lost his

probably some grief.

He doesn't talk about it, but

If this video is such an

integral thing, please do it

with me.

What are we gonna do with the

Mood thing?

Let them go do it.

Josh and I are fine together.

I know how to handle him.

I understand he's volatile, his

attitude.

Kind of just got to roll with

it, so if me going out with Josh

and just making him happy so he

can get back to the workroom and

work is the solution, fine.

We just need to have a product

at the end of the day.

All right, um, I'm just writing

a list of things that I would

like so it'll make it easy

for you guys.

Kimberly, Becky, and I are

going to Mood to select the

additional fabrics, and I think

it's gonna run smoothly.

I like Kimberly, I like Becky.

They're professional.

They keep their personal jazz

out of it.

Okay, and then I'm getting

dye, fabric paint, thread.

The challenge is to create a

print with the HP Touchsmart,

and then, the most exciting

thing is that it's creating

a whole fashion show by

ourselves with video background,

so some of us are going to Mood

and some of us are going out to

do the video.

Do you guys have any visions

for this video?

What I'm hoping we can get is

some inner workings of a big

clock.

I don't know if that's possible.

That won't play.

Just clocks isn't a concept.

Like, what are we trying to do

here?

I don't know.

It still has to have a common

thread.

Just a girl that's on the

move.

On the move.

At this point, the team is so

disjointed that I don't know how

we're gonna pull it together.

Just sh**t as much as you

Do it, go.

Make it cohesive out there.

Bryce and I are taking the

make a public service

announcement to everyone in the

I would like to apologize for my

insanity this morning.

There's no excuses, and it was

not the way to start off a team

I felt that the blow-up and

frustration within the workroom

There was a little bit of a

over me and over my team.

Our team.

So I apologize to my team,

How cool is that, to see a print

that you did on the computer?

It's really cool.

I think we chose well, guys.

Yes.

Oh, my God.

This is so pretty.

Love, love, love.

[Laughs]

The concept of prints really

show well on the fabric, and it

has a very subtle but clear

message.

So fun.

I love our textiles.

All three of them really work

well together.

Some of our prints are stronger

than the other team's.

I think ours are pretty dramatic

and they're gonna look great on

the stage.

This team is comprised of

nuts and bolts.

Joshua M. is head nut, Bert is a

nut, and Becky is, like,

borderline nuts, and Laura and I

are the bolts that kind of keep

it all together.

Anya is doing a c*ck

dress, which is not really what

she does, but we wanted to

switch it up for the judges.

Bryce is doing something more

casual, Anthony is doing

separates, and I'm doing a gown.

I'm not necessarily the gown

guy, but I'm pretty confident

that it's gonna be amazing.

This look is gonna be

body-hugging only.

I'm gonna cut this first, and

then I'm gonna do the inkblot

'cause it needs to be even when

I--

Yeah, because you're doing it

on the fold, aren't you?

Yeah.

We really want something a

little more organic to go with

these prints that we've done.

I like the idea of making things

by hand.

Your mind has to work in a

left-right way.

You've got to really look at

something and see the line and

form what you think might come

to be a pattern, press it, and

see how it works.

I want to add a blot here and a

blot there to kind of

pull the seam in.

The big risk is, once you do it,

there's no turning back.

It's either gonna look like a

cow or it's gonna look like an

inkblot test.

This jacket is amazing.

Oh, cute.

I am making a detailed jacket

with skinny pants using the

prints we created.

Are you gonna get the pants

done, though?

No, I have to make my pants,

but I can do it, like, late.

Later?

[Laughs]

In my look, I am not using

any of the textiles because I do

not like them, and we only have

to put them in three looks, so

I'm not doing it.

Cute skirt.

I just have to make sure it

fits really good.

We're going to the cafe.

Would you like to come?

I would love to.

Okay.

Just looking at everything,

it seems like everything's so

disjointed.

Yeah.

Does it?

Mm-hmm.

But I mean, I don't know,

because I haven't seen Becky's.

Becky's is a pretty plain

skirt with numbers on it.

What do you do with it, you

know?

I mean, a jacket with a shirt

underneath it, really.

So Becky keeps saying she's,

like, rockabilly.

I'm sorry.

I think it looks like Judy

jetson with a vacuum cleaner.

So, Becky.

So, Laura.

Here's what I'm just

thinking about the skirt with

the numbers.

Such a plain skirt in that

fabric might read math teacher.

The bolt print, um, to me--

I mean, I'm not in on the team,

but I'm just gonna say, is a

much stronger print than the

numbers.

Mm-hmm.

Well, we have plenty of the

fabric.

I could do one of each and we

could see.

Part of me feels like if Laura

is chitter-chattering with Anya

in the lounge about me and my

designs, that she's already

trying to throw me under the

bus.

You know, talk to me.

I'm part of your team.

I don't know, Becky.

We were just discussing, just,

like, the continuity.

Yeah, well, Josh kind of blew

the team apart and we don't know

how to put it back together.

Okay, I'll be, uh, at work.

I'm just so happy I'm not on

Hello, design teams.

Hey, Tim.

I am here to check in with

Well, you guys look happy.

We're all responding well to

this whole idea of the inkblot

good.

So it should look like a

rorschach test.

Yes, exactly.

And we like the idea, you know,

of working with black and white.

Very graphic.

We're also trying to play

with the silhouette.

Anya's back kind of shapes into

a squarish back.

Bryce's kind of goes into a

squarish back.

And then this one--I'm still

working on it, but it's gonna go

into a squarish back.

It's very evident there's a

huge amount of cohesion.

It was collaborative.

Oh, yeah, very.

I can tell by your body

language and how you're

communicating with each other, I

can tell.

So the other team's critique

is stellar, and the prints are

amazing, and all that great

stuff.

I'm not surprised.

I was more inspired by their

prints than my own.

The one thing that could

potentially go wrong you can

still fix, and that is, you've

got to keep your eye on each one

of these looks during the

fitting.

We're looking at this work

static on dress forms.

It's going to move.

Yes.

Thank you, all.

Thank you, Tim.

Team Nuts & Bolts.

Hi, Tim.

Hi.

Talk to me, please.

So we took the actual,

literal sense of a clock, I

guess.

Uh-huh.

I am way over here with the

blue charmeuse.

Just a jumpsuit.

Frankly, I'm troubled by your

jumpsuit.

I know, well, and that's the

thing.

I'm like, where is this thread

going?

So then, Bert, I'm making the

assumption that this is you?

I used this sort of

industrial zipper to sort of

build the cogs effect.

This waistline's gonna try and

disappear.

Why didn't you just cut this

with a princess seam?

'Cause the mismatching of the

pattern I find to be really

troublesome.

Okay.

Becky, what about your look?

I decided to use the numbers

print.

I really like the sense of humor

it has.

I made this little jacket with

an articulated elbow.

I'm troubled by the scale of

the print.

I think that skirt looks cheap.

Okay.

Well, there was some discussion

about the skirt, so I actually

made a second skirt--it's

sitting over there--in this

print, and I wasn't sure I liked

the circles on the hips.

Mm-hmm.

How much of this do you have?

Three yards of this.

Is there enough left over?

Yeah.

Hmm, I don't know.

What's going on elsewhere?

Um, so my girl, she's doing

separates.

A little silk charmeuse top.

She's gonna, um, have the gears

as well in her band with the

blue.

Looks like faux poodle.

[Laughter]

Okay.

So I'm just working on this

jacket with, like, you know, a

great front to it and, um, you

know, it extends down the back,

and then I have the smaller, the

gear print underneath.

And what's going underneath

the top?

Um...

Underneath the jacket?

Yeah.

A top.

I'm basically fumbling through

my words with Tim.

It frightens me because I can

tell he's frightened as well.

No, I'm just--I'm talking about

this textile.

So, if anything, I might try to

throw it in as a top to mine.

The thought of putting that

particular textile under the

sleek, pristine, cleanness of

that jacket gives me the hives.

The other team, maybe

individually, some of them look

good, but the overall thing is

just so confused.

So, let's consider the

customer.

Mm-hmm.

Yeah.

Tell me, where's the jacket

going?

I-I really don't like this

idea of things have to be going

somewhere.

I'm preparing you for the

judges.

You know?

I don't think she has to be,

like, going to something,

per se.

She could just be living her

life, instead of--

Well, it's the real world,

though.

But that's what I'm saying.

Then it could be going anywhere.

It's a jacket.

Quite frankly, let your ego

go as much as you can, because

it's a team challenge, and I

have to tell you, what I see

right now is the potential for

this all coming together and

being a wow moment.

I don't see it now.

Part of the reason there isn't

more of a sense of cohesion in

this collection is that there

isn't more cohesion among the

five of you.

You need to help each other, and

you have so many good things

happening right now.

Just together.

They've got to be together.

Yeah.

Can you all join hands for me?

I've never done--I've never

asked anyone to do this before.

Join mitts, you say?

Join hands.

Joshua.

Circle.

The vow being that you will

communicate and that you'll be

honest with each other.

You know what will happen

otherwise.

Right.

On.

I mean, if Tim's asking to do

the prayers, that might be a

Project Runway first.

Be willing to listen and--

Okay, all right, everybody.

Okay, cool.

Thank you, Tim.

Thanks, Tim.

Tim, as always, thank you.

Okay.

It's just frustrating because

I've never had a critique with

Tim that went that bad.

Mm-hmm.

I mean, it's just not a

conversation that I planned to

ever have with him.

It's just hurtful.

I work really hard at everything

that I do and I come from a very

humble family, you know, very

Midwest, very close, and I don't

go home that often, I mean,

frankly, because I live here in

New York and I can't get home,

um, you know, for all those

Thanksgivings and Christmases

I've missed, because I was

working at a bar to support my

dream.

[Sniffles]

I just want to know one day

that, you know, missing them was

worth it.

Hello.

Dad? How are you?

I'm good.

How are you doing?

[Voice quavering] I'm good.

I'm good.

Yeah?

Yeah.

Are you sure?

It's just the past couple

days have, you know, been a

little difficult with mom's

birthday, and everything like

that, so--

I know, I know.

It definitely got to a point

where I really, you know, miss

her and wish she was still here,

so--

Yep.

Well, we all do, that's for

sure.

You know, my mom passed two

years ago and, um...

[Crying]

You know, I wasn't able to make

it back from New York to see my

mom one last time, that this was

all worth it.

I am a mess right now.

Remember, you've got work to

do, so you can't get all

emotional here.

I know.

'Cause you got an angel on

your shoulder, so just don't--

don't let anybody else bring you

down and just keep working hard,

okay?

I will.

All right, son, love you.

All right, love you too, Dad.

All right, good night.

All right, night.

[Overlapping chatter]

I want to get it on you,

'cause we're all gonna look at

each other's fit.

Oh, it fits you perfect.

Cool.

Good length on the sleeves.

You know, I just felt so ugly

the other day when I got all

frustrated with Bert because

that's not what I do.

That's not who I am.

I hope, moving forward, I will

do my best to be open arms and

just try to find a way to work

together.

So that was my idea, just

covering this boning...

I see what you're saying.

To hide this.

I didn't mind so much that

it--

It's like, what do you

expect?

You already--

a princess line would have

been worse.

I think a princess would have

cut it up even more.

It would have been old

looking, too.

There's something about it

that I love, the length.

Mm-hmm, yeah.

Josh has been very forthcoming

in talking about my design.

I'm talking about his.

The team is working as a team.

I just want to move past all

those bad feelings.

It drains a lot of the energy we

could put in a more productive

direction.

The front, I think, is fine.

What do you think, Anya?

That's where it ends?

That's where it ends, but I

can add it.

Like this?

I can go up.

Yeah.

I'm a little concerned about

Bryce's look.

The fit should be higher on the

waist.

To me, that's a little bit more

modern, rather than just looking

kind of generic.

Do you feel like it's coming

together a bit more?

Yeah.

I have to re-cut the skirt for

the third time.

Now we're all designing.

We're working.

I think it's gonna be okay, as

long as Joshua keeps himself in

check.

Where do we stand on the

pant?

Huh?

The pant?

What, what, what?

Have we started on the pant?

Olivier is concentrating way too

much on this jacket.

I'm gonna grab that jacket away

from him and I'm gonna make him

do the pants before that jacket

gets done.

Bert, what do you think?

I've added this zipper in the

front for the surplus, which I

think gives it the cog feel,

kind of ties it in with a belt

that is kind of like a sling

belt.

I think it looks very good.

You like?

It totally looks much younger

and hipper.

All right, Nuts & Bolts.

Let's get out of here.

Olivier, come, come.

Hey, look at that frickin'

bull's-eye.

That looks pretty good,

considering I pieced it, don't

you think?

Not bad for an old man.

Good night.

Good night, clothes.

I know y'all have, like, had

an up and down roller-coaster

kind of time, but it really

is a great challenge.

How about the, uh, Tim Gunn,

we need to hold hands and have a

round circle moment?

I think Tim had a huge

impact.

Yeah, oh, yeah.

Absolutely.

It's important that I think,

like, we've progressed.

I think we really made an

effort.

And so, I think on stage, if we

exude that--

Right.

That's great.

Yeah.

How are you, my dear?

You know, I just have had so

many emotions over the past

couple days, I don't even know

what to think right now.

I completely understand how

you feel and echo your

sentiments completely.

Josh has put the whole,

whatever, drama behind him, and

we're just trying to support

each other at this point.

Olivier.

Hold on.

Let me just finish this.

I need to cut my waistband.

Where's the pants?

Olivier's pants still aren't

done.

He may just k*ll us all.

Good morning, designers.

You have two hours to send your

models to the L'Oreal Paris

makeup room and the Garnier hair

studio.

You all know how important the

Piperlime wall is.

Work hard, everyone.

Thank you.

Thanks, Tim.

Thank you, Tim.

[Overlapping chatter]

You're fabulous.

The pants fit.

Uhh! Dying!

We want a progression of

makeup to go from messy into

this very clean look, so they'll

all have the same cheek and

lips, but their eyes will kind

of vary.

Kind of a stronger "V" here.

Yeah.

We just basically want them

to look a little bit

machine-ish.

How about a little bit of

sheen right here, then, too?

Yeah.

Girl, you've got some lashes

on you, girl.

Fabulous.

Thanks, everyone.

So for her, we really want it

tousled.

You said you have a crimper?

Mm-hmm.

If I could get some crimp in

her hair, almost like she just

woke up, and there it is.

For her, the same idea, but if

we could keep the natural

texture of her hair--

And then go into a crimp?

Yes.

We are gonna give them all

bangs, straight down and very,

um--

Severe.

Very severe.

A perfect match.

Groovy.

Oh, my God, I love!

Joshua, what do you think of

the necklace here?

It's so beautiful.

Designers and models, it's

time.

We're going down to the runway

right now.

This shirt is gonna, like,

scream up there.

I figured if, like, things don't

go well, I might as well

distract them a little bit.

I'm excited for the runway show.

As terrible as the two-day

experience may have been, I

actually think we pulled it

together, so I applaud each and

every person within team Nuts &

Bolts.

Welcome to the runway.

As you know, in fashion, one day

you're in, and the next day,

you're out.

[Exhales]

For this challenge, you

worked in teams to come up with

a concept for a runway show.

HP and Intel provided you with

the technology to help you

throughout this entire

challenge.

All right, let's meet the

judges.

First, we have CFDA lifetime

achievement award winner Michael

Kors.

Hey, guys.

Hi, Michael.

Fashion Director for Marie

Claire magazine, Nina Garcia.

Welcome back.

American fashion designer

Rachel Roy.

Hi, Rachel.

And actress Rose Byrne.

Hi.

Welcome.

We will score your designs as

they come down the runway.

One of you will be named the

winner and one of you will be

out.

All right, let's start the show.

[Techno music]

♪ ♪

I'm really, really excited.

I think it's an amazing piece.

I've ex*cuted this blazer that

fits her beautifully, and I

honestly surprised myself with

how well it was done and the

design that was behind it.

My team's collection is

cohesive in color and print.

It's pretty together, and I love

my jacket.

I'm a little worried about the

tank underneath.

I think it could be a lot

better, but I'm pretty confident

that the jacket will carry me

through.

I love my look as it's

coming down the runway.

It's very edgy, it looked

really high fashion in a modern

way, and it looks like I wanted

it to look like.

There's no hit or miss on it.

It's pretty much perfect.

That length is terrible.

I feel that I created a

kick-a*s garment.

It's really me and it's very

edgy.

I like it a lot.

I just feel that the skirt got

pulled up a bit short, so that's

my only concern.

What happened?

It got so short.

But I really,

really love it.

I'm really happy.

I think the jumpsuit looks

beautiful.

It's well-made.

I think the garment itself looks

lovely.

Throughout the collection, I

think that there's a very chic,

urban combination of all our

aesthetics and I'm hoping that

they see the cohesion.

[Applause]

I think the models look

really good.

There's a cohesion of color and

of prints, and I'm proud of the

fact that it all looks nice

together.

I'm extremely happy.

The overall idea is that this is

a city girl who doesn't make too

much effort but still looks sexy

and edgy and stylish at the same

time.

I'm just excited that it looks

really good.

I think that my garments go

well with the collection.

The shorts are great-fitting and

I am very proud of it.

That back is sexy.

I really like that I got to

show my team members that I

could do it.

I love what I've done.

I'm loving the asymmetry that

I've done on the bottom.

Oh, the skirt looks so

amazing.

It's fun, it's flirty, it's

almost kind of masculine but in

a very girly way, and I was very

proud of the overall concept

that I suggested to the team.

I felt amazing seeing Carla

walking down the runway.

The jacket fits her really

nicely, and it's one of the

strongest, most well-tailored

jackets I've made.

I love this jacket.

Yes.

It just looks very, very

satisfying, and I was really

happy.

Looking at my gown, it's

amazing.

It's hard to make a gown look so

effortless and so flowy.

I could see that on the red

carpet.

I could see that everywhere.

Look how it flows.

Look at that.

I seriously cannot believe I

made that.

[Applause]

I feel really great about our

team's look.

It's extremely cohesive, it's

dynamic.

Everything is working.

I really enjoyed watching our

collection.

The color was perfect.

Everything was just amazing.

One person from the winning

team will be the winner, and one

person from the losing team will

be out.

Anya, Anthony Ryan, Viktor,

Olivier, Bryce, your team is the

winning team.

Yay!

[Applause]

Thank you.

Thank you.

That means Becky, Laura,

Joshua, Bert, and Kimberly, you

are the losing team.

I'm gonna talk to the winning

team first and bring you guys

out in a little bit.

You can leave the runway.

So what are our feelings on

our team?

Why don't you have anything

to say, Joshua?

Why are you all of a sudden

mute?

I think he wants Bert and I

to go home so he can have his

fun with the rest of you.

Becky, this is not about

having fun.

This is about creating a product

that people are going to want.

I know what I want to deliver to

someone, and I feel that you

don't, so that is probably why I

should be here and you should

not be here.

Your team is the winning

team.

Who wants to tell us about your

collection?

It was this whole idea of

chaos.

You know, just coming on this

show and then it just keeps

getting more and more chaotic

and then it almost evolved into

this sense of the chaos of New

York City as well.

It was really important that

she never looked overdone, that

she had, like, a great closet

and she could go and grab any

piece and not be overdone.

She could kind of just grab that

and she knew that she had a

great outfit.

I think that, in two days,

you guys did so much work.

I mean, everyone did an

impeccable look, and I have to

say, in my eyes, today was one

of the best runway shows.

For me, there's not one outfit

here that I don't like.

I love the evening dress.

I love all the prints.

I feel like I haven't seen those

prints before, and it's kind of

hard to pick the best one.

I think that you have some

pieces here that are more

sophisticated than others, and I

wish that we kept the

sophistication up.

I think, Olivier, the tailoring

on your jacket's fantastic.

Thank you.

I think, in all my years

sitting in this chair, I think

it is one of the strongest

tailored pieces we've ever seen.

Wow.

You finally got to do what it

is that you do.

We've been waiting for this.

I'm like, okay, hello, you

know?

And here it is.

The video really had that urban

kaleidoscope, kind of nervous

energy, and I think the

collection very much represents

that attitude.

I think the evening gown is

very, very chic.

Very sophisticated.

Fantastic.

Unfortunately, the shorts and

the T-shirt, suddenly this urban

sophisticate went to the mall.

Casual can still look polished,

and I think you guys were

probably afraid of madame here

screaming that there was no

color, and she probably would

have.

Um, but I think it was a good

inspiration.

Hats off.

Thank you.

Rose, what do you think?

I would totally wear all of

these things, like that little

c*ck dress to a premiere or

a function or an event.

They're all really wearable.

Um, I'm kind of scared of

prints.

Like, I can't--I don't know what

to do with them, but these are

all really approachable and

they're cute, which I like.

And as a collection, I thought

it had a really nice

through-line.

I love your collection.

In this case, the clothes are

the story.

The clothes are cohesive.

I love the prints, and I'm glad

that you brought color in

because I think that it's

different.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Guys, in my opinion, it is

very well done.

Olivier, that's the jacket I

want.

[Laughter]

It looks gorgeous.

I agree about the evening dress

being very sophisticated, very

beautiful.

What I like the most about this

collection is that you brought

it to a personal level, and I

think that's why it's so

successful.

My only, only criticism...

[Laughs]

'Cause you must have one.

Would be in the makeup and

hair, which I would have wanted

to see something a little more

polished.

How did you work together as

a team?

Fabulously, and we really,

really collaborated.

It's incredibly interwoven.

But who do you think should

be the winner?

[Overlapping murmurs]

We all really put our

signature on each piece.

Like, Anya helped Olivier with

the pants.

I helped Anya with the sleeve.

Everybody was just kind of hands

on.

I think we put the same

amount of effort in every look,

and we saw it as a collection,

overall.

I'm still not happy with your

answers...

[Laughter]

So I'm gonna go down the line.

What do you think, Olivier?

I would say, if I have to

choose, I...

[Whispers] Would choose myself.

[Laughs]

Repeat that last sentence

again.

You pick yourself?

I-I-I--

Can you not say it?

You pick yourself, right?

I would say I can be the

winner.

Do you think that designers

don't have a big ego?

Good luck.

[Laughter]

I mean, yeah, if you think you

did the best job, that's okay.

Viktor, who do you think

should win?

Well, I'm gonna stick with

Olivier's trend, so I'm gonna

say mine.

[Laughter]

Anthony Ryan, what about you?

I'm gonna stick with the

trend and say me.

Anya?

I am very proud of myself

sewing this dress and so I'll

also choose myself.

Bryce.

I think Anya.

Thank you.

It's gonna be hard for you

guys.

It's a timid group.

[Laughter]

Okay, we've heard what you

had to say.

Very good job.

You can leave the runway.

All right, tell us about your

runway show and your concept.

Um, our concept, we kind of

evolved with a girl from the

city who's always on the go.

She has a busy schedule.

She's running out of time.

So then from there, it evolved

with the clocks and time, and

that's what we tried to come

across also in the video and the

cohesion with the different cog

pieces and things like that.

What my biggest problem was

with your collection is that it

is so busy.

That was, for me, the biggest

problem.

What bothers me is the theme

that you guys picked.

It's so literal.

What you sent down the runway

here, it's like clocks.

So she'll wear a clock.

Well, time doesn't have to be

that literal that you're wearing

a clock.

What does time mean to you?

Do you think of a clock or do

you think of your children or do

you think of memories?

And that should be reflected in

the print.

Don't give me bad energy.

I don't want to wear something

that says "canceled."

I think the video was okay.

I think that it's just like,

whoa, I don't know what's going

on here.

I kept seeing, like, legs and

heels getting out of a car.

Right, that's all it was.

It was like a hooker

convention coming home after a

late night.

It was like an advertisement

for shoes or New York City

taxicabs.

It really was.

You guys beat the other team

as far as having a cohesive look

to the girls.

The hair is very this vibe.

Their makeup is a similar vibe.

All of that pulls it together

for me, and I think that's a

good thing.

I guess I just, I was a bit

concerned.

I didn't feel like a lot of them

were that flattering weirdly,

and you girls are all so

beautiful.

But put together, it's not

incredibly cohesive.

There was a lot of mistakes

here and there's a lot of

missed opportunities here.

Was everybody happy and on board

with these prints?

We had a third one, and my

skirt was originally out of the

third one.

It was numbers, and there was

some question about it looking

like a math teacher, so I

actually made the skirt three

times out of all three prints

and we landed on this one.

Oh, my gosh.

Wow. Okay.

And you totally copped out

also.

I have the belt.

You know.

[Laughs]

So you didn't have to have the

belt that's ugly.

No, I just want--I wanted to

jump in with the team.

You wanted to jump into the

ugly.

Jump right in.

Just wanted to be a part.

She didn't.

She didn't.

She's very into self-survival.

That's not true.

No?

Well, obviously you must have

been rolling your eyes, looking

at those prints.

Maybe Kimberly was smart to

realize that not a lot of women

want to have "canceled" on their

crotch.

[Laughter]

Like, you know, I mean, this is

not a great thing to wear out at

night.

Delayed.

Delayed.

Worse, you know, when I look at

your outfit here at the end,

once I get past that jacket, the

top and the skirt are so, just

nothing.

I mean, Bert, the other thing I

have to say--listen, it's not

easy to make a graceful mid-calf

dress...

Mm-hmm.

Out of a fabric like that.

Yeah.

You know, it's kind of like

if you were locked in the house

and someone said, "Make a gown

out of your sheets."

We've done that, I think.

Yeah.

You know, but it's so well-cut.

Thank you.

You really know how to cut

clothes.

It's just, time's a-tickin' when

you're wearing that dress.

It's cognitive.

I mean, it's just the fact of

the matter.

How did you all work together

as a team?

There was an altercation,

uh, with Josh, directed towards

me that, um, sort of took me by

surprise.

It was like I felt like I'd got

dumped on by a ton of bricks.

And later, he did apologize,

which I appreciated.

I seem to remember a pattern

here.

I remember you having a similar

situation with Becky.

Regarding?

Fighting. Becky?

It did happen.

So someone on your team is

going home today.

Who is the weakest link?

I don't want to point fingers

but I will say that Josh did

start us off very badly.

And it almost, you know,

collapsed us in a way.

But was Josh your team

leader?

No.

We had no leader.

Well, okay, you had no

leader.

So you all had the

responsibility to speak up

and change things.

Yes.

Well, when this happened,

Josh left the room.

Laura left--went to talk to him.

They came back, and it wasn't

like, "Okay, we're all gonna

powwow."

It was like...Whatever.

I have three separates there

that are made impeccably.

And I basically led the

detailing, whether it's literal

or not.

I mean, look at the design.

If this is--the show is about

designing, then I did my part

for this challenge, whether or

not I threw wrenches io it.

All right.

All of the th

are horrible.

[Laughter]

How about that?

All of the three prints

are bad.

When I asked who's the

weakest link, Becky said Josh.

Bert, did you say Josh?

I believe he was disruptive.

Laura, what about you?

I'd probably say Bert because

of the under-the-rug comments.

Who do you think is the

weakest link?

On this team it was Becky.

It's, you know, I just don't see

much design within the outfit.

I have something to say about

that.

I made the skirt three times.

The top twice.

People said it wasn't looking

right, but I wasn't getting any

feedback on what might look

right.

Your foundation is not

there yet.

I just think that that's, you

know, where the design is lost

for this challenge--where it

could have been pushed a little

bit.

Kimberly.

So who is the weakest link

in your eyes?

I think when we really look

at it, the least styled look

would probably be Becky's.

She is more of a, I don't know,

would you say simple kind of

style or something, maybe?

So it's just a difference in

aesthetics.

The dream team. Okay.

We've heard what you had to say.

We're gonna have a little chat,

and then I'll call you back.

You can leave the runway.

Thank you.

So which outfit was your

favorite outfit?

I wave the flag for people

who attempt tailoring and do it

really well.

And I thought that Olivier's

jacket was spectacular.

Fantastic. Fantastic.

And the funny thing is

we haven't really seen it from

him up until today.

Yeah.

You know, so today he really

showed us that.

When you do a very well

tailored piece--

Everything shows.

Everything shows.

And so he did that impeccably.

Viktor's dress was beautiful.

It looked polished.

It was interesting but

wearable.

You know, it was commercial.

And that was a really cool,

hip, great idea--the whole

thing.

It seems to me that Anya

did a beautiful dress.

Anya has a wonderful eye

for prints.

And used the prints in a

mixed way that worked.

Right.

All those different

personalities, they managed to,

you know.

Yeah. You didn't have a

single, uh, problem between

them.

Yeah, it was so wildly

different from the other team.

Yeah.

The other team, nothing went

right.

Which one do you think is the

worst one out of these five?

I am totally bored by Becky's

outfit.

When she said she made the skirt

three times...

I mean, come on.

What would she have done

differently?

There was no design

whatsoever in Becky's outfit.

You know, the funny thing is,

also--I think she can sew.

But it's not "Project

Seamstress."

This is about finding--

Finding your own voice.

Creativity.

She has too little, and

sometimes, I think that Josh has

too much.

There was so much going on,

and I'm just worried sometimes

about his taste level.

Wasn't this a print

challenge?

And didn't he come up with

that--

With the worst print.

The most terrible print of

all?

He is like a little dictator.

Right.

Which I think is troublesome.

He's a bit of a bully.

What did you guys think about

Bert's?

Problem with attitude too.

I mean, he doesn't have...

He really does.

We're not seeing everything...

He doesn't have many friends

in this--

Honestly, if you took Bert's

dress and it wasn't in that

horrible print--

Or if you put a zipper down

the chest.

But I have to say, he knows

how to craft clothes.

But I think he's certainly not a

team player either.

No.

I just felt like Bert's dress

just didn't do anything.

You mean, that's not gonna be

the dress that gets you into

print?

[Laughter]

Exactly.

She might not go there.

Run in fear from that.

So we've made our decision?

Okay. Let's bring them back out.

One person from the winning team

will be the winner, and one

person from the losing team

will be out.

You all were the clear

winners.

You worked together well, and

it showed in your collection.

Anya, you are the winner of this

challenge.

Oh!

Thank you so much.

You're all in.

You can leave the runway.

[Whispers] Congratulations.

It's my first win, and I'm

really thrilled about it

because it really brought

together all the skills that I

feel that I have being a graphic

designer, and it's a really

great challenge to win for me.

Oh! You don't know how much this

makes me happy.

[Laughs]

It feels great to get such a

glowing critique from all of

the judges.

It feels amazing.

Laura, you're in.

You can leave the runway.

Thank you.

Kimberly, you're in.

You can leave the runway.

Thank you.

Bert, you're in.

You can leave the runway.

Thank you.

Becky, Josh, one of you will

be out.

Joshua, it sounds like you were

very involved in this fashion

show, and unfortunately,

it was a bad one.

And your print completely missed

the mark.

Becky, in the real world,

as a designer, no one is gonna

tell you what to do.

You have to make your own

choices.

Your look was weak in a weak

collection.

Becky...

You're out.

Joshua, that means you're in.

You can leave the runway.

[Mouths words] Thank you.

Bye, Heidi.

Auf wiedersehen.

Bye.

Thank you all for your input.

I will consider it as I move

forward as a designer.

Thank you.

I don't think I deserve to go

home today.

I know I'm a good designer.

Maybe my designs are more

commercial than most of the

designers have been showing in

this competition.

Hello.

All: Hey, Becky.

How are you doing?

I'm doing pretty good,

actually.

It made me realize that there

are a lot of designers out

there, and there's always gonna

be competition.

There's always gonna be someone

who's well, frankly, better than

you.

There's some amazing talent in

this room.

And I wish you guys all the

best.

Thank you.

Hey, Tim.

Getting emotional, Tim.

Getting emotional.

It's getting very emotional.

The fewer of you who remain,

the more emotional it is to say

good-bye to anyone.

Yeah.

I have to send you to the

workroom to clean up your space,

Becky.

I know.

Oh! Good-bye, Bryce.

Mm!

I don't think I did what I set

out to do.

I came here to win, you know.

Obviously I didn't win.

I'm not done designing by a long

shot.

[Sighs]

I want to start planning my

future.

I want to have my own

collection.

I need a vacation, though.

'Cause this is tough.

Next time on

Project Runway...

For this challenge you won't be

working with your usual models.

You will be creating a look

for their wife, for their

girlfriend.

The men are going to provide you

with direction.

So if you think, like, cutesy

but, like, elegant.

If you could kind of mesh all

those together.

Like, what does "Double D"

mean?

He doesn't know double Ds.

It's a bigger cup size.

I don't have any personal

experience with it, Olivier.

Her breasts are like

ginormous.

[Mutters]

[Laughter]

She doesn't like the crack up

her a*s.

I think it's super safe and

super boring.

It looks like she slept in

the car on her way to the

wedding.

I'm really shocked.

Hey! Bada-bing.
