creating a modern jackie o.,

Almost like a play on a chanel
suit, but I'm gonna smash some

Rock candy, and that--i'm gonna
smash that up and try to

Texture it.

I'm gonna create a really
fun, colorful circle dress, but

I want it to look wearable.

I want the judges to see it on
the runway and be like, "oh,

That actually could be fabric."

filter down into some brown

Candy, which is like a
powder-covered chocolate ball,

But it's, you know, it's
representative of dirt and,

Like, the earth.

I get the idea of creating an
apron, perhaps for a victorian

Candy bar clerk gone wild.

[Laughs]
I'm making a sweater dress,

So I'm gonna weave sweater out
of twizzler.

Hi, how is everyone?

Good.

All right, I'm gonna look
around and see how you're doing.

I'm starting to get concerned
about--

Weight?

Oh, my god.

And it already weighs a ton.

I know.

If the waistband is firm and

Hey, how's tim?

I'm very excited about what's
going on in here.

I actually changed my design.

I was doing pants, but now I
want to use this for a skirt.

Here's my response.

This is incredibly ambitious.

You won the last challenge.

Right.

You're on a pedestal right
now, and you want to stay there.

How are you doing, raul?

I wanted to make sure that I
made something that looks like

Real fabric.

And it does.

I mean, I'm totally
flabbergasted that this is

Candy.

Melissa, is that licorice?

Yes.

And those are, what, little
twisty ties?

Yeah.

I mean, it looks like leather
and silver.

You've done it beautifully.

Here's my sketch.

Oh, is it all monochromatic?

Yeah.

Wow.

I'm gonna do the whole dress
in different lines.

Um, I'm also a little bit
concerned that the judges are

Gonna think there's not enough
color.

At this point, that can't be
an issue because look what you

Have.

You have to commit to this,
and you have a monochromatic

Dress.

Own it.

Elena is a very good
designer, but I don't think that

Her aesthetic will appeal to the
judges.

But you have a ton of work to
do.

I'm gonna have to start gluing

blue, both the gummy sharks and

It looks like sea glass.

It's quite spectacular-looking.

Right now, there's a
sophistication to this that you

and gummy sharks.

You have potential here
for a serious wow moment.

You need to go, go, go, go, go.

evoke the mood of a stained

Glass window by first--

Applying the frame in the
black licorice.

Wow, I'm excited already.

I bought, like, hard candy.

And I'm actually going to
hammer it and make it really

Small to look like glass.

And then I'm going to, for
example, take the pink and

Embellish in here, maybe take
the yellow, embellish it in

Here.

I wanted to make something
interesting, but at the same

Time, it could be wearable.

Whatever it is that I have to
cover that, I'm gonna glue the

engineering of this.

It looks like macaroni.

It kind of does.

It's the color.

Dress, I would say, and I'm
creating this checkered pattern

I like the idea still, though,
of breaking up the color on

You know, what would it do to a
woman's figure if it was this

Loud pattern, all over?

Even if I broke it up with just
a black band around that.

How are you addressing the
peplum?

Licorice is going to weigh this
down.

Absolutely.

I know what we're gonna do, tim.

Tim gunn, we're gonna take these
black hearts, and we're gonna

Use this black foil.

And that's white, and that
way, my peplum is not weighed

Oh, I don't know, tim.

you're doing.

I'm gonna apply all these
beads, and then--

And are you doing it on the

I'm waiting for my model to
try the corset on because I

Can't start beading it.

Well, when are the models

I have no idea.

And if you walk a black dress
down the runway, uncovered, it's

that's how I feel.

I just wanted to keep it

I don't usually do color like
this.

I mean, I love the idea.

It's a matter of executing
it.

I was trying to bounce off
their logo for the store, the

Colors of all the stripes, so I
found all these computer cases.

So I'm gonna concentrate on
the top, as far as gluing all

The candies on the top first,
and work my way down.

And then, they had these
rain boots, so what I was gonna

Do is kind of cut them, like,
cut them up.

That's the last thing you
need to be worried about.

I'm--i'm concerned about your
time management with this

'Cause you have a lot of work to
do.

Mm-hmm.

So, andrea, I'd love to hear
what you're doing.

I like the idea that people
who are working in a can--old

Candy shop would have an apron
on, and so, um, I sewed together

A whole bunch of candy dots.

Mm-hmm.

So I'm about to get started
in giving this a nice, nice

A-line.

So...

I'm gonna tell you very bluntly
and very directly--

Mm-hmm.

I don't have the adequate
words to tell you how completely

Underwhelmed I am by this.

Really?

You're just throwing the
challenge.

How you're putting it together
looks sloppy.

I would be precise.

But what really bothers me is
the fact that this is so

Unaltered, and it looks craft
projecty.

That's why I say it's like a
throwaway.

It's your design, it's not mine.

Right.

But I have a responsibility
to tell you, I'm disappointed

And concerned.

I feel kind of screwed right
now.

I don't even know what I'm gonna
do.

I can't do this now.

I was 3/4 finished, and tim

He said everything was crooked.

It looked like crap.

He's very disappointed.

So I started to cut it up
because I listened to him.

After I finished cutting it up,
I thought, um, I didn't have to

Take his advice, but now it's
kind of too late, and so I feel

Kind of lost right now.

Yeah, it's a dress.

Gluing, you know, it's very
labor-intensive.

So this is good.

I knew it would be good.

Seriously, and they're trying to
hurry up and get this dress

Constructed and get it out of
the way so that they can focus

All their time on placing the

When I see my look come down
the runway, she's moving.

This dress is looking good.

I think that there's a little
bit of, like, "oh, wow, he

Turned this one out" feeling
amongst the other designers.

She looks amazing.

I just feel so proud.

All the burns I got from the hot
glue g*n, all the blue dye on my

Fingers, it was all worth it.

My model looks great.

The licorice is shiny.

It looks like leather.

I think it's a perfect balance

Between a little bit of lining
and a lot of black licorice.

I love my garment, but I am

Still worried about that skirt
that literally weighs 20 pounds.

it 'cause it's different, or

Yet, I'm feeling confident it

Really looks beautifully made.

Runway, it really makes a
statement.

It's bright, and it moves well.

The model can walk in it.

Overall, I'm really ecstatic.

The runway, I feel good about
it, except that the candy starts

I love what I did.

I see that the judges are
looking at it with excitement in

Look and your materials that you
used.

I kind of wanted to think
about a playful muse, so I

Chose, uh, carrie from sex and
the city, and I felt like this

Was something that she would
wear, so I weaved together some

Of those long, chewy candy.

And then, again, I just wanted
to choose some fun colors for

The skirt, and then I made a
headpiece to go with--it was a

Bit more fluffy earlier.

It was made out of the cotton
candy.

I love these colors together, as
well.

I think it's really fun and
playful.

This is always one of my most
favorite challenges because you

Guys have these crazy materials
to work with, but I don't

Particularly like that you used
so much paper on the bottom, and

Then you over-accessorized it to
death--the bag, the bangles, the

Lollipop, the hair piece.

She looks like a five-year-old
going to a birthday party.

I mean, you might have wanted
carrie bradshaw, but to me,

She's like toddlers & tiaras,
like, gone berserk.

It's admirable that you took all
the time to weave the candy on

Top, but, I mean, she looks like
she's melting.

Hmm.

She doesn't look fun.

There's a difference between fun
and just insane.

If you saw her wandering down
the street, someone would

Probably put some money in a
cup.

Oh, okay.

You took a very easy way out
with the skirt.

The styling is atrocious.

It's like a pink expl*si*n of
messiness.

All right.

I think it's fun.

I do like how you used the sour
belts, and they wove them, and

It has sort of a sweater
material look to it.

The graphic of that is cool.

The bottom part, I don't love.

Sonjia.

I started off with the blue
and white jellybeans and

Gumballs, and then I thought, I
want to add just a touch of

Something else, so I got some
jordan almonds, and then I went

Upstairs and I saw these sharks.

I saw them, and I thought they
were really cool.

It kind of came into, like, an
aquatic kind of theme.

Kind of took it and ran with it.

I like that you definitely
created a lot of texture, and I

Do like the shape, especially
the back of the dress.

You created a really pretty
dress made out of candy.

The only think that I would have
liked to have seen her without

Is the hat.

She does look a little bit like
a '50s diner waitress, but I

Like what you made.

I think it's really pretty.

Turquoise is my favorite color,
so I love your use of the

Gradients of the blues and the
textures.

I like every angle of this
dress.

It's--it's fun to look at.

lot of different things and make

Them look connected.

that it looks like a costume.

picked a theme, that you chose

This is actually my second
dress.

I kind of, like, had my own
little meltdown, so I decided to

Start over from scratch.

This is a top, and then the
skirt to go with it.

And I liked the idea of making
the rain boots into booties.

I thought it was a cool idea.

That's how I ended up with the
umbrella fabric.

The same problems you had on
the last challenge, you have the

Same problems all over again.

You didn't transform the fabric,
quite honestly, and then you

Basically ornamented that
fabric.

It seems like you're
a decorator.

I don't agree with you.

Sorry.

Well, you did it twice in
a row.

It's the time factor.

Everyone else who's here who
does a good job, they're dealing

With the same time constraints.

I like that she used our
stripe and our logo and our rain

Boots.

Yeah, I am disappointed that the
colors are made up of fabric and

Not candy.

When you look at someone else
who made an outfit fully out of

Candy, then you look at your
dress, which is made out the

Umbrella fabric, it's hard to
judge that.

At least it's not atrocious.

There's something dignified
about it.

It looks colorful.

But I'm kind of tired to hear
this excuse that, well, it was

This problem.

Your other peers get their act
together, and you haven't been

Able to.

Well, I would love to show
you.

Well, we're running out of

I really wanted to create
a dress that had the look of

A stained glass window.

I used licorice to emphasize the
black outlining, which you would

See on a classic stained glass
window.

I bought rock candy in many
different colors, but I crushed

The candy to get different
sizes, so it looked like

Crystals, and this is the look
that I came up with.

Ven, I think that you have
great taste.

This looks like a stunning
dress that I would love to wear.

So first I had that sense of
discovery.

I love the asymmetry of the
line at her waist.

You didn't over-accessorize it.

I mean, you just kept it clean.

It's got a sense of humor, but
at the same time, it's still

Chic.

You really understand women's
bodies.

Um, but, yeah, I am disappointed

I'm not a designer who uses a
lot of color in general, so when

I heard it was a candy
challenge, I was really nervous.

I found this pina colada
licorice, and I found some

Computer mouse pads, and that's
what I structured the shoulders

With.

I just started piecing it
together with the candy itself.

I definitely knew, when your
model came down the runway, that

It was your outfit.

I remember from last week where,
also she had these severe

Shoulders.

But then, it reminded me of my
kids.

Like, sometimes we do art with
noodles.

[Laughs]
you know that?

And it just looks like a dress
with noodles on it.

She looks huge in it, almost
like a football player, and it's

Like, it's just all too big.

It does not look pretty to me.

To me, she just looked like
rigatoni mad max.

It took all of the joy out of
candy.

You sucked it right out.

It's kind of like when you stare
at a cloud and you start seeing

Things.

Now her boobs are turning into
old man's eyes.

[Laughs]
and then, it's like, the

Crotch looks like a mustache.

I mean, it's just--
[laughs]

It's looking like she has no
dimension to her body.

I really like the silhouette.

I don't feel like every woman
wants to be, like, girly and

Pretty.

I mean, you've got that
warrior woman thing going.

It's just, there's ways of doing
that that could make a woman

Look fabulous.

Could we see the back of this?

I don't know.

I'm not gonna make excuses for
it.

I mean, I like to wear
strong, hard things too, but she

Just looks gigantic.

I also got these little black
hearts pressed out with my

Finger, and then, this is black
licorice laced around through

Here.

Her earrings are also the black
licorice lace.

I got some black gumballs, and I
threaded for her bracelet.

And then I also wrapped some of
your black ribbon around the

Bottom of her shoes, just for a
little homage to your store.

designers that we did like.

What did you guys think about
gunnar?

He made a cool pattern, and
he's the only one who, in fact,

Thought about the candy for
accessories.

He made the earrings, he made
the bracelet, and he put

Something on the shoes.

He put a lot of thought into
this.

Head to toe, it worked.

And he's cute too.

But he just used licorice
and some chocolate wrappers.

It was very limited.

But I think gunnar's is probably
a little more in trend with

Today's fashion.

Let's talk about sonjia.

There is something charming,
that we're all kind of smiling

When we look at it.

It's fun.

She used so many different
candies.

She really took advantage of the
challenge.

Of everything you had to give
her. Yeah.

I think it was whimsical.

It's beautiful to look at.

I think that she figured out
a way to get all these disparate

Things and make it look
cohesive.

It was beautifully ex*cuted.

The back of that dress was
absolutely gorgeous.

Yeah, it was.

And then the sharks in the
bib, it was like, oh, I loved

It.

Okay, let's talk about ven.

The color, and how he
transformed that rock candy into

A new texture, it had some life,
it had some charm, but then the

Dress itself was so gorgeous.

He has a lot of confidence
too, that ven.

I think he knows he's good.

You really saw it in this dress.

I think I'm torn between
sonjia and ven because sonjia

Really took advantage of using
so many different candies,

Whereas ven only used two.

I really did not like it.

spent so much time weaving that

Then the skirt was kind of like,

I understand that aggressive
silhouette that she was going

For, but you've got to contend
with the body.

Literally, it looked like she
was wearing a cardboard box.

She's so like, "I have to be
true to my aesthetic."

I was sort of, like,
offended, actually.

I mean, you have to find a
way to figure out how to hold

Onto your aesthetic but deal
with the challenge.

Yeah.

And then, talk about sad.

It's not the pasta challenge.

Wouldn't you want to make it
so amazing that you actually

I think she's so arrogant,
she was like, "no, this is my

Aesthetic."

Four completely different
people are looking at this and

That's arrogance, not
