This is a perfect place to
celebrate ten seasons of
Project runway.
Beside bonnie and me, we have
nine mannequins.
Each mannequin represents a
season of project runway,
And each look on the mannequin
has been designed by a designer
From that season.
So for this challenge, you are
creating a c*ck or evening
Dress.
Whoever wins this challenge,
that winning look needs to fit
In, while still being true to
you, because this project runway
Collection is going to be
manufactured by lord & taylor.
I think, so far, this is the
most important challenge that
We've had.
It's an opportunity that most
designers don't really have in
The real world.
They will be sold here at the
flagship store and online at
Lordandtaylor.com.
If you win this, your name is
launched in lord & taylor, and
They've launched so many huge
designers.
I would love to go down in
history with project runway, and
This being the tenth
anniversary, I think no better
Way to make your mark than
winning this challenge.
And the winning dress will be
featured in the windows of lord
& Taylor on fifth avenue.

You're designing for a woman
who loves fashion--well, really,
For the lord & taylor customer,
wouldn't you say, bonnie?
Yes, the lord & taylor
customer loves fashion.
She's very sophisticated and
stylish, and a woman who has
Good taste.
These dresses must be retail
priced between $200 and $300.
So, designers, you have to
think about putting your design
Into production.
When you look at the other nine
dresses, notice that they are
Designed simply enough that they
can be manufactured within lord
& Taylor's price range.
You need to keep that in mind
for your own designs as well.
You will have one day for this
challenge.
There's no budget.
We're not going to mood.
Js collections, a division of
js group, has provided you with
Fabrics and notions for this
challenge, 'cause they are the
Manufacturers of these dresses.
And we have photographs of these
nine looks on the hp as well.
So the win is a kind of
capstone on our tenth season.
So, you will have 30 minutes
to sketch, and your 30 minutes

For me, it's really hard to make
something simple more than

Does put me at a place where I'm
really nervous.

I'm trying my hardest to make

like, a fuller skirt this time,

say this is too one-of-a-kind.

I picked a stretch crepe,
which is the, um, base of the
Dress, and then, also, the
stretched tulle that goes over
It, just to create a little bit
of dimension with the dress.
And I think it's very classic,
so I think that was the basic,
Um, thought of my dress.
Fabio, you had one of the
higher scores.

I think that you did a really

I think that it's a very
versatile dress, and I like that
You gave it a little detail on
the bottom.
I think, you know, the
asymmetrical thing is really
Tough to do well, 'cause

I wanted to do something that
was kind of stepping out of the
Box and take a big risk by using
my texture with also, you know,

The ballet pink along the black,
it's really elegant and classic
And, you know, she can wear it
to any event, basically.

I think it's a beautiful

You know, some people always
say, "oh, this color washes you
Out."
I actually quite like that.
I think it's beautiful because
her skin is so white and
Powdery, and you kind of picked
a fabric that looks like her
Skin color.
I actually think that's quite
elegant.
You know, on her, it's--it's
nude.
Uh, it depends on your skin
tone.
You know, on someone else, it's
blush.
I like the idea that it's a gown
that looks like separates.
It's kind of a tee-shirt and a
skirt look.
It's very well made, very well
crafted, but--but--

This shredding--while it's
fabulous--is, like, okay, I got

You do it well, but--
this is just a subtle hint

I like the lightness of it,

look.
After looking at the past
designers' dresses, what really
Struck me was, like, the fitted
silhouette, and I thought it was
Very classic and distinct
looking.
And then, I wanted to add more
of my touches to that kind of
Silhouette.
Melissa, you had one of the
higher scores.
I think this bronze is a--
a smart way to have kind of
Dark glamour.
I like the neckline, because I
think it's surprising.
Half the battle at night is from
the waist up.
Mm-hmm.
So, I like that she looks
like she has this boat neck, but
It's, in fact, strapless.
You, with the asymmetry, you
perhaps went a little too far,
Uh, because, to me, it looks
like she should have a bell
Hanging from her point.
Oh, god.
You know, I mean, it--it's
too much.
I want to cut it off.

I think it's a stunning
dress.
I think it's definitely a
showstopper.
Any woman that can fit in a
dress like that would definitely

The first thing that I
responded to was the fabric.
I think this part is very
dramatic.
How did you make this collar
stay up?
It's brocade.
I mean, it's really stiff, so
it's able to kind of keep its
Place.
The right fabric in the
right dress.
Yeah.
Well, I think it's ingenious
that you were able to make a
Strapless dress with that type
of bodice treatment and shoulder
Treatment.
I do tend to agree with the
comments on the hem.
Uh, I think it's an absolutely
winning dress.

your look.
When it came to the lord &
taylor clientele--i'm familiar
With it--one thing that you said
was the generations, and I feel
Like this would be a dress that,
depending on the length, could
Go to different generations.
And it's chic.
It's not--it is, you know, the
sequins, but they're matte.
I feel like it's not overdone.
I tried to incorporate as much
as I could with keeping the
Taste in it.
Gunnar, you had one of the
lower scores.
Really?
It is very expected.
I mean, I've seen this sequined
dress.
I think you've done it very
beautifully, and it looks very
Elegant.
Mm-hmm.
But I've seen this dress,
gunnar, so I don't need to see
It again.
Okay.
I think it looks like a dress
that they actually carry at lord
& Taylor already.
You know, the sheer, kind of
lace on top.
It's kind of a very typical
evening trick.
Like, "oh, she doesn't really--
she wants to be bare, but she
Doesn't want to be bare," and it
can turn a little mother of the
Bride.
But it's--it's kind of blah,
and I think you can push
Yourself much further than this.
Fair enough.
I think you did a pretty good
job, also, on the way, uh, the
Construction is.
You know, it fit her--it fits
her really well.
I mean, it has everything
from the grip tape to keep this
From having too much tension on
it.
I love your comment about,
uh, many ages can wear this
Dress.
I just think that lace is
incredibly unforgiving as a
Fabric, so that--that's, I
think, part of the problem with
This dress, is it lacks a little
bit of fluidity, and I think
It--therefore, it becomes maybe
just a little bit stiff.
Elena, tell us about your
look.
I wanted to mix a classic
silhouette with a modern twist
And, um, make it simple and
wearable and elegant, and at the
Same time, put in a modern edge
into it, which is me.

elena, you had one of the

Oh, my god.

uh, it--this seems to me now,
This comes to a major surprise
to you or--?
Did you--?
It's, uh--
you struggled with this
Challenge, or you didn't believe
in this dress, or why are you
Reacting this way?
I just--i just haven't been
on top yet, and I've been
Struggling throughout the whole
competition to create things
That, you know, um, I would
like, and that you would like,
And I don't know.
I-i did struggle with this
challenge because I don't make
These kinds of dresses usually,
as a designer, so, yeah.
Then you should be proud,
yes?
But also, I think that sometimes
when we've been criticizing you,
You have to always think about
what each challenge is for.
Right.
You have to think that you
want to sell.
I think that this is a very
sellable dress.
I think that a lot of women are
attracted to this kind of
Silhouette.
It's a little bit of a girlier
kind of silhouette, but still
Hard.
You kind of created this harness
in there, so that makes it edgy.
But, otherwise, I think it's a
very flirty and fun kind of a
Dress.

the back is extraordinarily
Beautiful.
What's--the beauty about the
back is that you could see the
Contrast and you can really
notice the harness.
In the front, it's less
apparent.
Really, in front, it's very hard
to see what's going on.
But it's a very nice dress.
I liked it very much.

I find it's very french and
very fun and, yet, it's got an
Edge.
It's for maybe a more, uh, a
more specific kind of customer,
But I do think that customer
exists.
You know, fashion is gonna
always be about balancing art
And commerce, and you, here,
found this dress that's this
Kind of yin-yang of, you know,
"she's nice but she's nasty."

and I think that's a good thing.
This is your shining moment,
that you found the balance.
It's not like we want to
stifle you to not be creative.
I love the fact that you're
creative and that you take
Chances but, like michael says,
in a balance, because you want a
Business.

When I was looking at the
collection, I thought it might
Be interesting to introduce a
