The pants had a bit of work

I just designed a very basic

I intentionally made it very

Minimal.

That way, the judges can see

That I can design with a simple

Silhouette and not have

Something that's too busy.

That's so out of my comfort

Zone, but I really nailed it

With this one, and I think it's

I can lose with this look.

With this challenge, whether

I've nailed it or not, that is

My vision of the modern southern

Fashionable woman.

This is the look for the

Modern southern woman because

It is all about keeping it

Simple but bold in the color.

I want to be her when I grow

Up.

I know.

I challenged myself.

I was able to create something

That I haven't seen before.

That's a nice drape on there.

Good job.

It's beautiful.

My design is striking,

Vibrant, energetic, exactly what

The belk woman should be.

It's moving exactly the way

I wanted it, and it's just the

Right amount of fullness.

I hope I'm in the top three, and

I hope I win.

Now, why doesn't my hair

Look like that when I tried to

Do it this morning?

I chose some really difficult

Fabric.

I probably should've gone with

Something less pleated and had

Less structure and body to it.

This is outside my normal safety

Zone, and I think that, with a

More friendlier fabric, my

Design would've been ex*cuted

Much more eloquently.

I really pushed myself to

Find new ways of using the plaid

And the grain of the fabric

So it had this image of being

Really, really full, and yet it

Hung closer to the body and

Didn't look overwhelming.

I take risks.

That's what my work is about.

I don't want to do something

That I've seen before or that

I've done before.

I would never see the modern

Southern woman in these plaid

Dresses.

In my opinion, they should

Definitely be worried about this

Challenge.

Love the split.

Yeah, I'm feeling very good

About how the fabric's moving.

She looks very sexy.

The height of the slit is

Perfect.

My model really looks like the

Southern woman that I see in my

Family every day, and they're

Modern, and that's exactly what

A modern southern woman should

Look like.

I'm not really sure what a

Modern southern woman looks like

In the judges' eyes.

My look not only looked

Southern.

It looked nationwide, and as a

Designer, I'm thinking about

Every customer, not just one.

It would certainly satisfy a

Large proportion of the core

Belk customer.

It was a good choice of

Print too.

I like the way the colors

Turned out.

It's everything that belk said

They wanted.

It's modern.

It's bright.

It's exuberant.

I'm really proud of myself

Because I would never in a

Million years have chosen that

Print, but she looks like a

Modern southern woman.

I think it is modern, and it has

I would love to rock this dress.

It felt fresh, modern, and

And it looks like you could find

It in a store, which is

It's not a wow piece to me.

Weddings.

I mean, regardless of where

She's going to, it's very

Unflattering.

It's a very safe design, ken.

Extravagant, wow pieces.

The thing that jumps out at

Me is I've seen this before.

It wasn't a new--a newer

Silhouette.

But it's not fashion-forward.

I thought about a woman who

Did buy a dress in the store.

I did want to scale back and do

Something more minimal.

There's so much that you

Could've done.

Immediately because I think he's

His construction's great.

But the thought of going back

Into the workroom is traumatic,

I chose kate for this hour

Because kate sews very fast, and

She know how to play the game.

So what all they just hated

About it?

They did like the color a lot.

So let's stick with the

Fabric.

I don't think we need to make

The new dress within a hour's

And just remake this dress.

A really minimal--like, maybe

Some kind of, like, draping

I had two ideas, and I went with

Mind for this challenge.

The goal is, keeping it a little

Bit more young and playful.

I keep everything clean,

Simple, and tailored.

I'm grateful at the fact that

The judges have given us a

Second chance.

However, it's been a

Roller-coaster ride for myself

And the judges in this

Competition, so I hope I don't

Get sent home.

I am so proud of how well the

Dress moves, and the fact that

I made it in 60 minutes is an

Awesome thing.

I took all of the accessories

Off, restyled the girl's makeup

And hair, and we swapped the

Shoes to be a much younger, more

Contemporary shoe.

[Dramatic music]

I went for a complete remake

And a complete restyle.

It's a lower-cut day dress.

I used two prints that I found

In the studio.

It's also got kind of a deep

Back as well--

Hopefully trying to go for

Something younger.

Isn't this amazing, what you

Can do in an hour?

You know, it's not the most

Interesting on the runway here,

But it's pretty.

It has some asymmetry to it.

You did a nice job.

It's the right fabric with

The right print.

I think this one is so much

More fun and easier to wear.

It's younger and hipper.

The dress silhouette isn't

The newest, but I like the mix

Of the prints.

It adds a little dimension to

This was the original print

That I was gonna use, and I just

Decided to do something that was

Really young and fresh that just

Draped nicely on her body.

I love this dress.

I think it's such a cool print.

Quite an impressive

Transformation.

She looks sexier, cooler--

It's something that I could

See a young girl wearing, and

Did this in one hour.

It's definitely more modern,

Definitely in that younger
space.

The decision to cut it shorter,

Based on that fabric, I think

That was a good decision.

I think this is so much

Improved.

I think this feels much more

Contemporary.

But it does feel like a

Late-night party dress to me

More than like a day dress.

Designers, you all did an
amazing job.

Your models definitely look so

Much younger and hipper.
