[Jacinda] We just got back yesterday, Paul and I.

He's also doing modeling, that's how we met.

He definitely wasn't happy

that I was going, he was really sad.

If I have time, I'll come up to London.

[Mike] The girl that I'm really gonna like

is just gonna be random chance, you know.

The girl in the cafe, in the very back--

[Neil] Of seven strangers..

[Jacinda] Picked to live in a house..

[Jay] And have their lives taped..

[Lars] To find out what happens..

[Mike] When people stop being polite..

[Sharon] And start getting real..

[telephone ringing]

[Paul on phone] 'I just, I miss you so bad.'

[Jacinda] With Paul, I've been together like, five months probably.

Don't be bummed, please.

Of course, it's wonderfulto know

somebody misses you and everything.

[Paul] 'I love you many, many, big, big times'

'pretty girl with blond hair.'

See, for me, it's-it, it's different and he knows that.

I totally adjusted to my situation here

and he hadn't been a part of this.

I'll show you pictures.

[Mike] 'When is he gonna come visit you?'

I don't know, I don't know.

And I don't know.

He said, "I know that you can't be missing me

the same way that I'm missing you."

Because I've just had so much going on.

you know, new people, new house

and, and I'm doing different things now too.

I'll just walk around to your side of the airplane..

I took my first flying lesson yesterday.

It was great, I mean, I love flying.

I just love being up there in the air.

[male #] 'Our nose is dropping, we're gonna go into'

a spiral dive towards the ground.

We're going faster and faster, the airspeed's increasing

'your plane is basically out of control.'

[instrumental music]

I've always liked airplanes.

I mean, ever since I was little

I just loved being up there.

- 'You have control, Jacinda?' - I have control.

It's one of like hundred things

what I've wanted to do and now

is the time for me to get to do it.

[music continues]

[telephone ringing]

- 'I'm coming.' - 'Are you?'

[Paul on phone] 'I'm leaving tomorrow. Milan-Heathrow.'

[Jacinda] When Paul told me he was coming

he was really excited and stuff

and I just, I would, I had to say, you know

look, I don't know how I'm gonna feel

when you, when you come because it'd been so long

since I'd seen him.

- 'Hey, baby?' - What?

[Paul] 'I love you.'

- I know. - 'You don't.'

- I know. - 'You know?'

Yes, 'cause you tell me every time.

[Mike] 'How long have you guys been going out?'

[Jacinda] 'Six months.'

Is he the man?

Or is he just the dude that you're nailing now?

[Jacinda] He's not the dude that I'm nailing now.

It doesn't work like that with me.

[Mike] 'Would you marry Paul?'

Oh, God, I don't know.

It's, that's not even in my frame of concept.

Now I just like to go out and have a good time

and, uh, whatever happens, happens.

I've been majorly hanging out with Mike

which, um, sort of surprises me.

[music continues]

[Mike] I like going to the clubs with Lars

because we think very alike when we go out.

I saw another, just smoking chick.

She had these tight spandex pants on.

Well, this is gonna be really good.

Lars and I can talk about, you know, the hardcore stuff.

You know, we can talk about sex and women and all that stuff.

Let's just go hardcore straight for some nasties.

Mike, I ain't never going out with you anymore.

[Lars] He majorly goes out to get girls.

That's like, his thing.

Like, that's, that's all he talks about.

Just take them back to their place

and never talk to 'em again.

Man, uh, I'm really looking forward

to my mom coming to visit me and meeting you.

She's gonna love you, you know?

I'm just like that around guys.

I'm not like that around moms.

I mean, I wouldn't go up to a girl and say

something stupid like that.

[Mike] I-I am the biggest wuss

when it comes to talking to girls.

That's why I like going with Lars.

If I'm with Lars

and Lars will see somebody

and can introduce me

then I'm, I'm really good.

But if it's me and I see a girl

I mean, I don't have ba*ls to just go

and make that move!

[instrumental music]

Oh, Lars, I hope this is fun.

We went to a club last night.

It was, uh, supposedly a single's dinner.

You pay ten pounds

to have dinner, listen to music

and at the tables they had phones.

So you'd sit and you call these

random people up who you saw at tables.

[Mike] 'Oh, Lars is already doing well.'

'Lars is just pullin' em in.'

- Hello! - Oh, man.

[Lars] 'So what's your name?'

Tricky?

Nikki, okay, I got it, Nikki.

[Mike] It was fun, it was kinda neat.

And this one girl called me up.

Hello? Hello!

And she's like, "So what are you doing here?"

I drive race cars.

Turned out to be that her brother races cars.

What sort of race cars?

Formula Renault Sport.

- Do you know James Matthews? - Yeah.

And so that was kinda neat.

So we talked about that for a while

and t-the whole night was kind of fun.

We had a good time.

And then as we were walking out, it was like, you know..

Well, like, well, you know, "Do you want to come?"

I'm like, "Well, let's see."

And then all of a sudden all her friends

started talking about her boyfriend.

[male #] 'Hey, Debby, what about Marcus?'

[indistinct chattering]

[Mike] I think all that hassling that her friends gave her

kinda guided her away from it.

But I think it might've worked if, uh

if, uh, her friends weren't around.

I don't know, just a guess.

- Good luck. - Oh, sure, I'll see you again.

- Yeah, okay. - I'm pretty sure of it.

[Mike] Oh, Lars, do we know how to have a good time.

[instrumental music]

- Hey, baby. - Hi.

[Jacinda] I just thought it was gonna be so strange to see him

and I don't know how I'm gonna feel about him.

Oh, it's sweet.

I'm so used to being by myself again.

When you went away and I, and I didn't have anybody

then I was like, "Ah.."

And now I'm so used to..

...being by myself.

It takes getting used to again.

This is the longest we'd ever been away.

So, we were both kind of just not putting big expectations.

Just waiting to see, you know, how it would be.

When Paul was coming, I expected somebody more like Jacinda.

You know, free-spirited, you know don't really care

what happens with anything.

[Mike] 'That's Neil, he can't talk.'

'He's the mute of the house.'

Oh, yeah, he's, he's the kind of guy

Jacinda would date.

He's just got that sweet streak in him.

I tried talking to him, and there was like

nothing coming out of his mouth.

[Mike] You know, I was like, "So where are you from?"

"Uh, LA."

- 'How old are you?' - Twenty.

- Twenty? - Yup.

You know, that was like, that was like, our conversation.

[Jacinda] I've never gone out with somebody younger than me.

And Paul is younger than me and it makes things difficult.

It looked like Jacinda was kind of in control

of that relationship.

[dramatic music]

Paul and I are not exactly the same

in the way we go about handling things.

like the idea of her buying a dog.

It seemed like she wanted a dog

just like a little girl wants a Barbie doll

and she went out and got a dog.

the dog learns to do his thing

with the newspaper and everything.

[Lars] I don't really think Jacinda is quite aware of

how much work and how much responsibility it is.

Because it's, it's alive. It's an animal.

- Oh, my God. - He's just like a mop.

Everybody in the house was like..

"Is this a good idea?" You know.

Lars was very, like..

"I don't know if you should get a dog."

I don't care, I love him.

He's, he's wonderful.

[rock music]

[Sharon] 'Guys, there's a queue here, do you mind queuing?'

- 'No, that's a line.' - 'Oh, yeah.'

Where are the American women, Sharon?

I want clean-cut American women.

My name's Buffy.

[Mike] At the O bar I met a girl named Buffy.

[laughing]

Page is a guy who used to be shy

broke out of his shell sometime

like sophomore year of high school.

- Holy sh.. - Am I right?

She said something that was like

right out of my past, and I was like, "Wow."

I really don't know what I'm doing.

when I have to go to bed by myself, you know.

[Mike] May is a girl from Germany

who spent a year as an exchange student

with a girl that I know in St. Louis.

A couple weeks ago

she came to visit one of her friends

and she called me up and said, you know, "This is May.

Do you remember me? I'm here in England."

Julie told me to say hi to you.

Did I tell you that last night?

[Jay] I find May interesting, I mean

we have a good time, she's very pretty.

It was fun to talk about the lake

in, in St. Louis and our old friends.

We just, I don't know

we just kind of hung out together.

And, uh, went out and saw a movie together and stuff.

That last night on the phone.

That wasn't you.

I never heard that person before.

[Jacinda] My feelings about him hadn't changed.

And then we had this huge, big, rigmarole conversation

which wasn't necessary.

And just to realize that everything

was still the same.

had to catch a flight out.

Exactly what was going on with May.

I don't think anybody quite knew.

you know, some random summer

at the lake or something.

Or I might visit her when I visit

Lars in Germany.

But it was one random thing

and then everyone was treating it like

I should have been going out

with her or something.

I had to kinda pick Mike's brain

as to, uh, what that was all about.

[Jay] 'You didn't even say one word to her.'

- What'd you want me to do, Jay? - I don't know.

I didn't want to go out with the girl.

Didn't want to marry her.

[Jay] '"Didn't want to go out with the girl"'

'Is that what you said?'

You guys spent the night together, the last two nights.

How isn't that a good thing?

All I know is, if I'm with a girl and I'll have to..

Have her stay over at my house two nights.

Hey, the night before I'm not gonna see her again

why I'll just take her to go see videos with Jay and his friends.

Alright, I guess, I should have proposed to her.

And told her I loved her and bought her some flowers.

[Mike] Like you go to Florida for spring break

and you hook up with somebody

and you go home and you never see that person again.

And that's all it is.

You know, you don't go home and cry.

You don't go home and write letters.

That sucks.

Whenever there's a woman that's nice

intelligent, really good looking

and she spends the night in your bed

you know, I just..

For me it seemed like that would be something

that meant something to me.

But, that was just another day

in the life of Mike Johnson, I guess.

[instrumental music]

[Jacinda] The two weeks that he was here

was wonderful and I'm really happy.

And I guess now I'm gonna miss him.

It's not that I'm unsure about

our relationship, not at all.

I'm perfectly happy

and, and content and I feel wonderful with it.

I don't really think

that we can exactly foresee

and especially when we're in such unusual situations.

[sniffling] I hate this so much.

It was really sad, It was horrible

saying goodbye to Paul.

But those particular goodbyes

aren't such a huge thing anymore

because I've, I had to do them

for five and a half years constantly

with my families or friends.

[Jay] Marissa was like

my first touch of love.

[Mike] 'Racing starts in two weeks.'

And I'm getting negative help from my father.

Wouldn't it be good to get a job?

My father bitched at me all my life

and I'm really afraid I'm gonna end up like him!

Does it feel better without the stitches?

A little bit, bit more, yeah.

Some complete sadist pulled my stitches out.

Hu-raaah!

Took out stitches in about a minute.

I'm out of that conversation.

It was three medical students.

They pulled out stitches

in about a minute and a half.

"Don't worry about the blood, see ya later, bye."

All this blood coming out.

[Neil] 'I'm a hard man.'

I'm not one to whine.

[Sharon] But your girly was there holding
