Everyone who ends up saying,

- We brought the 18 finalists
to meet our judges, nina garcia,

Zac posen, and heidi klum, who
will make the ultimate decision.

- Being here one step away, to
be honest, is so nerve-wracking.

I’m gonna give you the lay of

You will each be presenting
individually to the judges.

- My name is charketa glover,

And i’m from detroit, michigan.

Oh, this was part of my spring
collection, and these are

Sample pieces.

You know, being from detroit,
born and raised,

I’m a reflection of hard work.

We’re a strong city.

We’re go-getters.

So bring it on.

- Do you work, like, a 9-to-5
job, or you do this full time?

- My first degree is in
computer engineering.

I was working at
an investment bank.

It’s only recently I started
designing, like, every day,

Yeah.

Fashion is where I belong to.

Not computers.
Not wall street.

Sometimes, I think
i’m going out on a limb.

You know, who are you to be so
confident that you can--you,

Little small potato, can make
it out there?

- You know, korina, you’re the
first designer to go in,

bit about

What kind of designer you are.

- I’m american indian, from the
puyallup tribe, so a lot of

My stuff is inspired by my
growing up.

- And do you wear your own
clothing?

- I like this coat.

- I do, yeah, all these jackets.

- I love that next coat.
- I’d love to see this on.

- Great.
- It’s beautiful.

- Am I allowed
to buy things today?

- Who do you think your
customer is?

- I love the new york woman.

I’m from eugene, oregon, but I
currently live

In brooklyn, new york.

I come from a family of artists,

So kind of living in that
starving artist environment

Is awesome.

- It’s a different silhouette
that I haven’t seen before.

- Like, a serape/coat.
Really, really beautiful.

- How do you work under
time pressure?

- That’s pretty much the only
way that I work.

I mean, like, right now,
i’m number one, right,

And i’m pretty calm.

- You shouldn’t be.

- [Laughs]

- I did
the screen-printing myself.

- This is screen-printed?
- Yeah.

- Good heavens.

- I had a very traditional
family, my parents were very

Orthodox, but we moved to a big
city, and so there was

A lot of change
in their thinking.

We do believe in our traditions
and our culture,

But see it in a modern way.

- [Laughs]

So there’s a lot of humor in
your work?

- Yes, because there are states
back home where women are not

Treated well.
- Oh, I know.

- Give the middle finger to the
men who don’t treat them well.

So it’s--
- good for you!

- [Laughs]

- This collection here was a
part of my senior thesis.

I’m fresh from school.

It was inspired by how
the human body creates speed.

I was a hip-hop dancer
for eight years.

So when you dance, you have
to be able

To move in your clothing.

I’m very familiar with the body,

How it works.

The jacket with the sleeve
that’s kind of detached

From the body almost.

- You do have a lot of ideas,
new ideas.

Sometimes maybe too many.

- I want to tell my story, and I
feel like my work

Will always be original.

- You know, he’s young.

- But he’s fearless.

- You can start moving your
work over to the rack that

Korina’s just clearing.
- Okay.

It’s definitely
been a long road.

Working for other companies kind
of crushed my spirit

A little bit, and then I had my
daughter, who totally re-sparked

That wanting to design again.

I now have a kids line called
devon rose,

Named after my daughter.

- Did you make your dress
that you have on?

- Yeah, I did.

- To match your hair color.

- It’s actually,
like, a shirt-dress.

It’s pleated through the back.

A lot of my work is androgynous.
- I’m impressed.

- Originally, i’m from mexico.

My parents came over here when I
was a baby,

And I live in dallas.

- Well, the women in dallas
love their fashion.

- So I design for girls like
kylie and kendall jenner.

Rihanna would totally wear this.
It’s sheer.

This has lace sleeves.

- Beautiful technique.
Nicely made.

My only issue is I see three
totally different designers

On a rack here.
- Yeah.

- This is everything for me.

I mean, I left my job,
I left my apartment.

Everything i’ve got
is right here.

- I love this yellow number
in the middle.

I’m obsessed with pockets.

Fashion’s important to me,

Because of where I came from.

I came from very little, very
humble beginnings.

I mean, it’s not
really even humble.

It’s kind of, like, tragic.

This is one of my short c*ck
numbers.

I have this fun tank top here
using my print.

- There’s something
very easy about it.

Something tells me you could
surprise us.

I like a classic style, so i’m
inspired by designers like

Vionnet, chanel, madame gres.

I play with versatility, so
this piece can be brought

us one dress, in a way.

- It’s a little one-note.

- This is a look that I just
did for an event called

Black hearts ball.

- I guess my muse is a

- I really love using contrast
fabrics, and I think that it

Makes for more of a kind of
futuristic feel.

- My favorite part about your
pieces is all the seaming.

- The first look

It’s kind of like a dress shirt

With the collars
at the bottom.

- This kind of like a play on

I think you have to amp up

The volume a little bit more.

- I can turn it up.

hand-embroidery, and this collar

Is actually detachable.

I call these shoulder plates.

It’s hammered metal sheets.

So this is actually a mild
a*usive word, which means

"Stupid" or "dumb."

And because these women in
india, they can’t say anything,

I wanted the clothes to say it.

- It’s my favorite thing
i’ve seen all day.

- I decided to do a spring
shirt, real flowy,

And if I were a girl, I would

Like this for myself.

- I had very little to write
about this outfit.

Because I felt it
didn’t really say much.

It’s a pair of shorts and a
t-shirt.

It’s just very basic and
elementary.

- I thought this was actually
very spring, a lot of fun.

It is very junior, but I happen
to like ensembles sometimes,

You know, that work.

- Yeah, I mean, it’s supposed
to be for a collection,

So it’s one piece and I could
turn this

Into a pant, and do a top.

This isn’t--
- all: oh.

- I thought it was
a top and a pant.

- The pants fit really nicely.

- The top feels a little d.i.y.
Like, things are lifting off,

And i’m not sure how it’s
connecting, and it just feels

Like it’s not as polished
as it could be.

- You described your woman
as "fun."

We need to have more adjectives
than "fun," and understand,

There has to be more than that.

about your look.

- As soon as I opened the box
and I saw a lot of patterns,

First thing that came to mind
was

The indian spring festival
of holi.

There is a certain rawness to
it, but still,

It’s really colorful and fun.

So I took my fabric, I dyed it,

Then I wanted to keep my edges
a bit raw, you know,

Because the fabric was floral
and so feminine,

I wanted to give it
that edgy feel.

- I love the silhouette
of this dress.

I feel like for real life,

Though, the ripped off, it’s
a little like an amorous moment

That was interrupted, you know?

The prince was just about to--

[Imitates ripping]
- yeah, yeah.

- I feel like that
gives it the edginess.

Maybe it’s not something that
actually people would wear,

But it is for a fashion show,
and I feel like

That gives it the extra
something special,

And I haven’t seen
anything like that

Before, so you surprised me.

- And it feels personal, like,
all those little details...

- Yeah.

- And that makes
clothing special.

- I think with you, you took
something

And made it into a fantasy.

I think this was very inventive.

I like the way you
manipulated the fabric.

You dip-dyed the top.

To me, this looked super

The way you styled her, she
