i’m not gonna find anybody.

Dig a little deeper
and look a little harder.

You want a great
before and after.

You’ll have 30 minutes
to find your muse-model,


To chat and sketch afterwards.

Then we’re going shopping
at mood, where you will have

A budget of $200.

And the good news is, you have
two days for this challenge.

and your client

For a makeup consultation.

And as an extra bonus,
the winner of this challenge

And their muse will be featured
in a mary kay ad

And then i’m gonna play around
with some chiffon pleats

And kind of bring out
that feminine

Ballerina side of her as well.

Ooh, yeah, I like that.

- Out of the corner of my eye,
I see this houndstooth check.

Just immediately,
I was like, "that’s it.

I want that fabric."

I love that.

And it was, like,
an amazing find.

She really wants something
that’s bright and

Very different looking, and I
just feel like it

Definitely has that vibe to it.

And I like it, and I think she
would definitely like it.

I kind of feel like i’m in a
designer’s block right now.

I need to find someplace
to be, in my mind,

To come up with something.
And it has to be fast.

a graphic minidress

With a leather vest on top.

That’s kind of fun.

I find this beautiful print
in the brocades.

It’s a little boho,

It’s a little vintage-y looking,

But it’s super bright, and so
I think it’ll make an impact.

- Amanda’s look kind
of makes me dizzy.

- This is one of the most
hideous garments

I have ever seen.
It’s butt ugly.

- I don’t know
what i’m gonna do.

- This challenge is to create
a look for this lovely client

That we had to go find
in washington square park,

But it’s also
a mary kay makeover.

- It’s like a puzzle.
- Yep.

- Look at all my pattern
pieces...i need to get

My jacket done tonight.

- That’s the hardest part,
right?

- Not for me.
It’s the easiest part.

I’m used to making jackets,
so I don’t have to think

Too much, which is nice.
And my fabrics are working.

Everything’s working smoothly.
And i’m getting more and more

Excited to complete the look
as the day goes on.

- I have white fabric.

I just start cutting out
a white dress,

And i’m starting to sew it
together, and i’m not liking it.

It’s not exciting to me,
and i’m stuck.

And it just comes up in my mind,

Like, "oh, my god.
Make the dress out of denim,

Because that’s what you love to
do. You love denim so much."

So I start designing a denim
dress to go under that jacket.

And I feel
like it’s super strong,

And I feel super confident
about this.

- I love her eyebrows.

And of course,
it would be really wonderful

To play up your lips
and your cheeks.

Maybe we can have
a ’50s "vamp" look.

It’s that whole retro
meets modern.

- Oh, wow, yeah.

the look really feminine

But bring it into more edgy.

- Maybe we could go more nude
on the lip,

But really do a shape
on the eye.

So I kind of wanted to give her
a little bit of a rocker vibe.

was going for was right on.

It’s the execution,
it’s a little bad.

The hem is wavy.

It’s too short
in proportion to the vest.

But the vibe is not bad.

- I can’t disagree
with any of that.

- Can I see it
without the vest?

Yeah, your stripes on the waist
are too far apart.

- Not a fan of this either,

It looks a little dated.

- It seems to be more clothes
and less fashion.

I have to say, though,

So when I wanted to do for her
was edge her up a little bit,

But I thought that the dress
would be really cool to,

She’s a preschool teacher,

- I think it’s fun.

It’s obviously not anything
I would wear on a daily basis,

’Cause I teach preschool,

But it was really great
working together.

She had asked me what
my favorite color was,

And I said it was red.

- I have to say the only thing
I like about this look

- I feel like there are so many
things wrong with this look.

It’s not sophisticated.
It’s not classy.

the jacket off?

I love the simplicity of that.

When you’re wearing
such a bold color,

It’s such a statement piece
that you don’t need a lot

Of bells and whistles.

you need the peplum.

- Well, this is
the beautiful julia.

She’s from the ukraine.

We started talking,
and she says, "well,

My very favorite designer
is thierry mugler,"

Which I almost died, ’cause
he’s always one been

One of my very favorites.
And then right away, I knew that

I could do something feminine
but then really edgy too.

- It’s like an
origami flamingo.

the best work

That you have done technically.

- The dress fits
actually immaculately.

It borderlines on costume,
but I do like it.

- But I think I would prefer it
without the ruffles.
