It's a lot different than

I can tell you that much.

- Kind of is
frumpy-dumpy boring.

- I expected
so much more from you,

and it should go

- I'm like, so happy
that I've made it this far.

It was 16 of us,
and now it's half.

- Waking up today,
it sort of hits me like, boom.

Pretty soon, like,
Fashion Week is gonna be here,

and it's like, whoa.

In a good way.

- I got a little bombing
for my...

and it's really made me think

about the amount of time
I wasted smoking.

I am focused on smoking much
more than I am on my outfit

because I'm stressed,

but it really talks so badly
of me as a designer.

So, this challenge,
I am making it a point

that my smoke time is reduced

and the work time is increased.

- I recently got to see
the musical "Finding Neverland."

I took my children.
We all loved it so much.

So, I thought, this would be
a great inspiration

for a new challenge.

- I can't keep a smile
off of my face

because you're on Broadway
in New York.

It's, like, really corny to say,
but you just know that

something magical is
about to happen.

- ♪ Dah-dah-dah ♪

- Right away, I recognize
Matthew Morrison from "Glee,"

and we're all like,
holy [bleep], this is awesome.

- The women are
dominating this year, huh?

- So cool, 'cause we've
watched him on TV,

and I'm like,
are we gonna design for him?

- Designers, welcome to the
historic Lunt-Fontanne Theatre,

and to Broadway's biggest
new hit, "Finding Neverland."

And I am thrilled, honored,
and excited

to introduce you to the star
of "Finding Neverland,"

Matthew Morrison.
- Welcome, designers.

Very nice to have you here.
- Oh, my God...

- I'm sure you all know
the story of "Peter Pan."

"Finding Neverland"
is kind of the story

behind the story
of "Peter Pan."

At its core,
"Finding Neverland"

is about what happens
when you believe in yourself

and make your dreams come true.

And you're all here,
so I'm pretty sure that

you can relate to that.
- They certainly can.

So, designers, you're going to
be seeing "Finding Neverland."

- Well, I gotta go perform.

- The best experience ever.

I love singing
and I love dancing,

so, I feel like it was, like,
everything that I ever loved,

like, right on one stage.

- I love it,
it's like the movies but in 3D.

[cheering and applause]

♪ Ah ah ah ♪

♪ Ah ah ah ♪

- I take a lot of inspiration
from my great-grandmother,

and there's one part that talks
about the death of someone

and how, like, that person will
live forever in Neverland...

Um, which I just thought
was so lovely,

because, you know, I try to
keep her along with me always.

So, it was just
a really lovely story.

It was really lovely.

[holding end note]

- Whoo!

- I cried like a baby
the whole time.

- I absolutely loved it.

Extremely inspiring to watch

and that's exactly
what I'm gonna do.

- Whoo!

- So, designers,
for this challenge,

you were to be inspired
by your experience

watching "Finding Neverland,"

but you're not making costumes
for the play

We are talking about
real clothes.

You have a $250 budget,

and 30 minutes to shop.

So, 30 minutes begins now.

- We're off?
- Go, go, go.

- My design is inspired by
my childhood

because when you go to Neverland
you never grow up.

And when I was a little girl,
I grew up in a Baptist church,

and I would pretend that

the aisle was the runway.

- Do you feel like
this is too couch-y?

- What do you think?

- You know, I'm a little nervous
about this challenge.

If I'm in the bottom again
I'm in trouble, so...

- Don't think about that.
- Okay.

- Don't get filled with doubts.

- I think this challenge
is serendipitous.

I am really excited to be able
to make anything,

and to be re-inspired,
'cause these past few weeks

have been really tough.

- So, let's do
a yard and a half.

I definitely want to incorporate
black into my look

because the scene that
really hit home for me

is when Hook says,

"Own your own darkness."

You know what? My parents,
they were drug addicts,

and my childhood
wasn't that great, so...

To be able to...
come from...

A dark place
and celebrate it,

and...feel hope--

I don't know,
it's a beautiful thing,

and it brings tears to my eyes.

I should've never saw that play.
It's turned me into a crybaby.

[laughs]

- Designers, we have

because I'm happy that you're

but I wanna say something.

and the only designer

we know will return is Kelly,

because Kelly has immunity.

The other seven of you are,
quite frankly, at risk,

and at this point,

an excellent designer
is going to go.

- This is serious business.

I don't wanna go home,
so I'm not even trying

to picture myself going home.

- It's anyone's game.

- The challenge for today
is to create a look

that is inspired by the play
"Finding Neverland,"

and we can do pretty much
anything you like.

- My vision
for this challenge is,

like, a magical evening gown.

It's completely backless.

It has, like,
a split tail in the back,

kind of like a waistcoat.

I want it to just
float down the runway.

It's different for me,
but it's still something that

would come from me.

♪ ♪

- I love Tinker Bell.

I love the message that,
if you have wings,

you can fly anywhere,

so that's
kind of sticking with me.

Like, I have wings.
See them?

[laughs]

Kinda want to be
a little ambitious

and use all of my inspiration
and put it in here.

I'm thinking
this oversized jacket,

and these short hot pants,

coordinated with this tube top
that I want to design

with the silver tinsel textile
that I have.

- That's pretty, Laurie,
the fabric.

- I dreamed about it.

♪ ♪

- Jesus, why is there
so much static in this?

- [groans]

The lining is causing static,

which is why the skirt is not
falling properly.

- Did you go smoking?

- Nope, just once
before we started.

- I think you're doing
really well.

Look, you've almost got
a whole skirt done.

- I would have if this [bleep]
static would not have happened.

- I wanted to take
from the play,

but at the same time,
have my own imagination to it.

- It is about your imagination.

- So, I wanted
to do something dreamy,

but at the same time
structured and sculpted.

So, the bottom is
where I want

a lot of flying
in the air and fluidity.

- Okay.
- And the top,

which is going to be a drape,
will be done in this.

- With the Glen plaid?
- Yes.

- This is your moment.

You have been on the top
for five challenges,

but you haven't won.
- No.

- And this is why.
- Yeah.

- What Tim said
really changed my perspective,

the fact that he has
so much faith in me.

I want to make him proud.

- All right, Swapnil.

So the 100% happens today.

- I was really inspired by
the whole theatre experience.

Just, like,
walking in and looking

at all the pictures
on the wall,

everybody just dressed up.

- The good ol' days.
- Yeah.

- I don't really do, like,
evening stuff...

- I know.
- So, I figure, the immunity,

I might play around with it.
- All right.

- I want to do, like,
a young take on an older dress.

A short c*ck underneath,

and then this, it's gonna be,
like, a long vest.

- Mm-hmm.
- And I got these tassels.

They just reminded me of,
like, a theatre.

- But, you know,
with all this,

I think less is more.
- Less is more, yeah.

- There's so much
happening here.

- There's enough bedazzle.
- There's plenty.

- I have a bedazzle problem.

- So, Marlene,
when I came into the room,

- [sighs]

- You let out
a little cry of anguish.

What's going on?
- I feel like I lost my mojo.

- This is not a moment
to lose your mojo.

- I know.
- This is a time to rally,

there are only eight of you.

- I know, Tim.
- What's going on?

- Okay, I got this boning
and I wanted to do,

like, a armor...
- Oh, I see.

- Maybe the sleeve,
like, you know?

- Yeah, I'm with you.
- And just like...

- But not too much.

And then, I was gonna leave
the dress like this...

You know what I mean?

- I do know what you mean.

It's going to feel
very renaissance...

And dreamy.

- If you have pretty fabric

and you just
throw it over the lamp,

and maybe you add holes
in the sides

you have a dress.

- This play took me back
to me being here,

and each piece that I create,
my grandmother is with me.

- Mm.
- Like, she's my guardian angel.

So, with that,
I have two bottoms.

I don't know if
I wanna go flowy with it,

or I wanna go with a gathered,
kind of, mermaid look.

I didn't know if I should
combine both of 'em together,

and do something fun.

- I love what's going
on right now.

- You like the both of 'em?
- I do.

- I like that counterpoint.
Don't you think?

- Yeah, I would definitely
have fun doing that.

I'm just a little concerned

because I've never
done something like this,

and I just hope
I have enough time.

- I wanted to use fabrics

that look magical.
- Mm-hmm.

- I was thinking
about my daughter,

how she loves pixie dust
and Tinker Bell, so...

I'm thinking of a three-piece.
- Okay.

Chic, young, and modern.

This jacket, kinda like
a oversized mini-dress,

and I wanted to add
a ruffle hot pant under here,

and this would be the top,

and I'm thinking
of lacing the back

with this tulle.

- I'll tell you,
this can go "old lady"...

very quickly.
- Yes.

- And I feel as though you
have two different people here.

You have this modern
warrior of sorts

and then you have
her mother.

You need to beat back
the old lady.

I think it's just gonna
look messy.

- Laurie can't take criticism
very easily.

and that's what I think
could be her downfall.

- You don't look happy.

- No, I'm listening.
I'm very happy.

- So how's Lindsey?

- I'm doing something kind of
out of my comfort zone,

but in a good way, I think.
- Okay.

- So the top is gonna be
like this,

and then the back is
gonna be basically open.

- Oh, pretty.

- And then I have kind of,
like, tails in the back,

but I gotta even out this,

because it just goes from
way too short to way too long.

- Uh-huh. What you've done
with the top is so simple

and so beautiful.

- Oh, thanks.

- I think you're in
a good place.

- I do feel like I need

to knock this one
out of the park,

and I think I'm going to.

- To me,
when I hear "dream,"

and at that's the word
I'm kind of playing off of

from the play, I see clouds,
I see...

you know, when the window
opened.

- Yeah.

- And it's just--
it's just very dreamy.

- It is dreamy.

- This gives me night,
so playing the two together--

- What's it going to be
like in the back?

- It will be the same effect
all the way around.

- Oh, wow. And how much
more of this do you have?

- This is it.
- Oh.

But how are you doing
to do the other side?

- I will take
some hand tacks.

- Now I'm concerned.

Candice.
- Hi, Tim.

- I'm eager to see
what you're doing.

- Well, one of my favorite
scenes in the play

was when Captain Hook told him
to own his dark side

and just grow from it.

And so I wanted to
incorporate that in my look.

- Hmm.

- It's going to be a leather
corset laced in the back,

and I wanted to make a pant
to go under this jacket dress.

- And I have to say, I love
these three textiles together.

I also feel as though
she stepped out

of an 18th century painting
into the 21st century.

- That's what I was
going for.

- Well, you got it.

All right, designers,
I am really excited.

- Yay!
- I mean, I'm gonna say this.

You have a lot of work to do.
- Yeah.

- But what I love is this
represents your imaginations.

We're gonna have
a fabulous runway, yes?

- Yes!

- Well, I see you
in the morning.

- Beautiful models.

- We get to create
whatever we want

using our
imaginations.

- I thought this color
would be so pretty on you,

and it is.

- That is really tight, girl.

I thought I had everything
measured out to her

and that it was gonna
fit her perfectly.

But now since the boning
is stitched in there already,

I'm gonna have a gap
in the back.

- Yeah, it's actually
looser up here.

- Okay.

- It's a vest,
but it's a cloud.

You're literally
wearing a cloud.

It's an awesome fit.

- Amazing.

- I have yet to do pants

and show the judges
my construction capability.

So I'm challenging myself

with a cigarette,
very fitted pant.

Hopefully it turns out
really well.

With pant, they can go
really well or really bad.

- I haven't even started
on the "wow" piece yet,

and we only have
three hours left.

- I still have to sew
a dress together, so--

- Yeah, but you sew
like the wind.

- True.
- So let's be honest here.

- I believe she does sew
like the wind.

- She sews like the wind
on a very windy day

in the middle
of a [bleep] storm.

- I love this.

- And it's just, like,
really stark in the front.

- Yeah, it's just
gonna be, like, floating.

- I like it a lot.
- Yeah?

- Very different.

- I think she's gonna
end up looking like a plant.

I don't think
that's a bad thing.

- No.

Lindsey as a designer,
like, she's not flashy

and out there,
or confident, and like--

She's just not comfortable
with that.

Now that's not necessarily
a bad thing,

but at this point,
let's see you push it

harder and harder
and, like,

get out
of your comfort zone.

What did you think
of the musical?

- Awesome.

- You were to use the musical
as your inspiration,

and you could create
anything that you wanted.

- She is throwing the skirt
in the air.

It's flying beautifully.

The top looks structured.

I think this is a great
representation of me.

It's soft and fluid.

At the same time, it's sharp,
strong, and confident.

And that's who I am
as a designer.

- I kind of lost

what my inspiration was
for this design,

why I was designing it.

And the hem is unraveling.

I don't want to be
on the bottom for that.

- I'm a bit worried
about the arms on the coat,

because it might
look like bat wings.

I've done something that
I've never done before.

I've done something
I've never seen before.

I definitely dug into
my deep imagination.

- Most of the times you would
see a garment like that,

you would have
a long dress on underneath,

and I wanted to add
just some flirty

and some playfulness,

so I did the minidress
underneath.

I definitely added a little
bit of Kelly in there.

- That short skirt,
Kelly had to add her Kelly.

- At this point,
I'm hoping to be safe,

because I know I have
a lot of flaws

and trouble kind of shows
through my look.

I don't do
three-piece looks.

I just wish I had
more time.

If I'm at the bottom,
I'll be ready.

- I love it!
She looks fierce.

- I love the shoulders.
It looks really, really cool.

- She looks hard with
the armor on her shoulders.

She's just, like,
hardcore, bold princess.

- My dress is like
my kind of fantasy

where it's still wearable.

It's not something
I would make every day.

Yeah, organza
is really hard to sew.

It's like stiff silk.

But hopefully this thing
goes well.

- I do feel as if

My objective was to
push harder, push forward.

Give it all I got.

I'm feeling like the judges
are really seeing me.

- I have to say, I loved
today's runway show.

It was very creative.

your look and your inspiration.

- Well, here I created
this ruching effect

with the ombre fabric
that I found at Mood.

And my inspiration was
the believing.

Peter just lost his mother.

J.M. told him
to continue writing

because every time he writes,
his mother's with him

in every page that he writes.

And I felt like
my grandma's with me

every time I create a piece,
and she's my guardian angel.

- I think the length
is a little awkward.

Overall,
it felt kind of messy,

and this was not one of
my high scores today.

- I like the overall idea.

I do like what you wanted
to do with the silhouette,

having a ruche on one side
hugging her body beautifully

and on the other side,
it's just kind of loose.

The sweetheart neckline
is a little comical.

It's kind of like
two bunny ears.

- It sort of flopped.
- It needed to be

a little tighter.

Coco, what do you think?

- The color choice for her skin
I think is beautiful.

But it looks like she had,
like, a fight with the drapes

and the drapes won.

- This is like
the prom gone wrong.

Draping is all about honoring
the body and the curves,

and this is not doing
your model's body any justice.

- Kelly, tell us about
your look and your inspiration.

- So knowing I had immunity,

I kinda wanted to do
something different

than I normally do,
and that was my first

Broadway musical.
It was awesome.

I sort of wanted to bring back,
like, getting dressed up

and make it like an event,
but modern day,

like 21st century, sexy,

and sort of young and fun.

- I like seeing you
take chances.

- Yeah.
- Pushing yourself

in a more evening direction
and outside of

this kind of urban raver look

that's so in your comfort zone,

shows that you're growing.

- When she came down
the runway,

I thought it was
a little costumey.

- "Who would wear this
to an event?"

is what I was thinking.
Looks like a mini-dress

with a negligee over it.

- But you know what?
It would be

a beautiful dress to photograph.

It would be
a beautiful editorial.

It walked beautifully.
It glistens with the light.

It's really
all about the fabric.

- Laurie, tell us
about your look

and your inspiration.
- Well, my inspiration

was from the fairies.

It took me back
to my daughter,

and she loves fairies,
she loves Tinker Bell.

So I kind of thought
of "pixie dust,"

hence all the silver.

This is a tube top.

- I found going to the play

was almost kind of
serendipitous for me.

I obviously haven't been
in the best place

in the last couple challenges,

so I guess the idea of just,
like, believing in yourself,

it was just a really
lovely feeling, I think.

- I love the color,
but that's about it.

I have a really hard time
with this look head-to-toe

being really high up here,

and it doesn't know what kind
of length it wants to be.

It's short in the front,
long in the back.

Then it has a slit
in the back.

- Structurally, I don't like
what it's doing to her waist.

It's kind of pinching, it's
a little funny right there.

- It looks like
an experiment gone wrong.

The proportions don't work.
The color is beautiful.

Green is the color of hope,

but this feels
a little hopeless.

- Edmond, tell us about
your look and your inspiration.

- My inspiration
is the word dream.

I feel like I'm Peter Pan right
now, living that, being here.

So what I created was this,
like, vest to soften the look

and give more of a dreamy,
cloudy effect.

I wanted to do something
sleek,

so I did the cigarette pant.
Never'd done a pant,

especially a pant this fitted
like this,

and it was a challenge
in itself.

And I created this top
for my look.

- I think that the cigarette
pants are smoking hot.

I also love the top.

I like that you chose
separates,

that you didn't do a gown.

I'm not the biggest fan
of the purple.

I was moved
from the very beginning

to the very end.

And the scene that
really hit home for me

was when Hook
came and told him

he kind of just needed
to own his madness,

and I immediately
connected with that.

I enjoyed it.
