09x04 - Frat Matt And Work

Post by bunniefuu »

[theme music playing]

[Jamie] This is the true story.

[Matt Smith] Of seven strangers.

[Melissa] Picked to live in a mansion.

[Kelley] Work together.

[Danny] And have their lives taped.

[David] To find out what happens.

[Julie] When people stop being polite.

[Jamie] And start getting real.

[all] The Real World: New Orleans.

[theme music concluding]

[upbeat music playing]

Today, I'm going to meet a man
'cause, um...

-[Julie] Today you are, huh?
-Yes. 'Cause something's just not right.

And I'm just getting sick of it.

Everyone in this house

wants to be all attractive
and unavailable. I just get tired of that.

-[laughs]
-I do, so watch me.

I'm meeting someone.

[whimsical music playing]

[indistinct chatter]

I have a problem.

I need boys to pay attention
to me.

-How old are you guys?
-Twenty-one.

-I'm 19.
-Just babies.

-How old are you?
-Twenty-two.

-Oh, you're a frat boy?
-[laughs]

You so don't look like a frat boy.
You look like halfway normal.

I meet Matt at the Boot and being
loud, honest Melissa, I was like,

"You need to take me
on a date tomorrow."

Do you have a little girlfriend, or what?

-No, I don't. Definitely not.
-[Melissa] Okay, cool.

Okay, you come get me
and it's going to be

on the date tip, okay?
So dress nice.

-[Matt] Okay, I'll be normal.
-Yeah, okay, we're leaving.

All right, bye.

[whimsical music concluding]

[upbeat music playing]

[Matt] This is pretty cozy in here.

Who's this?

[Melissa] My friend Ryan,
the guy I was dating before I left.

He's a drummer.

Huh.

I just happen to date
scruffy, weird White boys.

I can't help it.

He was a 21-year-old virgin.

[Matt Smith] Really?

[Melissa] I'm settling,
I don't have to settle.

I can get the best of what's out there
completely on my own.

-All right, thank you.
-[man 1] Thank you.

-"Broadcasting."
-[Melissa gasps]

Uh-uh. Uh-uh.

"Dear roommates, my name is Elton,

director of New Orleans
Access Television Operations.

You will be working with me
at our production facility.

I would like to arrange
an initial meeting with you

on Wednesday, January 26

to discuss the details
of your employment."

[David] This is tight...

Television, baby,
that's all I need to know.

[Kelley] This is going to be awesome
because this could be really good

for my future.

We're going to be working
for a TV station.

-[woman 1] Really?
-Yes, well, it's public access

but I think it's like broadcast
and stuff.

-[woman 1] Wow.
-I'm on my way to stealing Oprah's job.

-[woman laughs over phone]
-[laughs] I hope.

[quirky music playing]

Are you guys here
to see someone in particular, today?

-Uh, Elton.
-Elton.

Good morning, good morning.

Is this, uh, this is
my new staff here?

-[all] Yeah.
-Okay. Have a seat anywhere.

Make yourselves comfortable.

Let me, uh, welcome you
to New Orleans Access Television.

First of all,
New Orleans Access Television

allows people in the community

to talk about issues
that are not normally covered

in mainstream media.

What you're going to have
the opportunity to do,

is to produce a live television show.

How's that sound to you guys?

-Sounds wonderful.
-Great idea? Okay.

Probably, one of the most
important things,

is you're going to stretch yourselves.

We want you to focus on content,
put up great ideas,

working together
and creating an exciting show

'cause I'm not going to accept
anything less than perfection here.

Do we actually, physically

go out into the field
and do the production?

Yes.

So, is there a training session
for all this?

[Elton] There'll be a training session
to how to operate some of the gear.

So again, focus on content.

Content, content, content.
Don't get hung up on the technology.

[Julie] So, the first show's on the 19th
and then when's the next one?

[Elton] Probably the following week.

-Oh, like, there's a weekly?
-[Elton] Uh-huh.

[Kelley] So, when the next time
we see you,

do you want what we want
our show to be about,

who's going to be doing what,
what the name is, what the graphics are?

You want all that
the next time we see you?

[Elton] Bingo. You got it.
Any other questions?

[Jamie] Will we have access to a car?

A vehicle, hm. Let's take a walk.
Come on.

All right!

Does anybody think they know
what it is, where it is?

-Right there.
-Right there?

Yeah, there it is right there.

[cheers] Yes!

[Kelley] So sweet!

[Melissa] You're giving us a new car?

-[Julie] Shut up.
-[laughs]

[quirky music playing]

[doorbell rings]

What's up, my man?

-How you doing? All right.
-All right.

I'm in a new place
and if I have to do things

that I wouldn't normally do
at home, then I should do it.

[Jamie] Where are you guys off to?

I don't know.
I think she's got to run a few errands,

grab a bite to eat.

[Melissa] That's your car?
That's nice.

I never dated anyone with a nice car.

Usually, I have to pick them up

because they're trifling
and don't have jobs.

We're officially on a date.

-Okay.
-[Melissa laughs]

-[Matt] Well, let's just slip out of here.
-[Melissa] Yeah.

You had a couple things
you had to do, right?

-Or do you want to just...
-2207 Magazine Street.

-[Matt] Okay.
-Because I just want to get a new coat

and then after that,
it's me and you.

So, what is your major?

-I'm a business major.
-[Melissa] So, you are spoiled rotten.

-Nope, not at all.
-Have you ever had a job?

-I've worked every summer.
-You only have to work in the summertime?

Well, I've always been in school
and my dad, that was one rule

that he always made with us,

as long as we're in school,
he doesn't like us to have jobs.

That's a great rule!

-[Matt laughs]
-I said, "Dad, I want a car."

And he said,
"Well, baby, you want a job."

It's me! This is my date, Matt.

-We're on a date.
-Hi.

-Hi, Matt, how are you? Jamie.
-Good, nice to meet you, Jamie.

-[Melissa] Isn't she cute?
-I told him when we go to the coat store,

don't try to hit on the coat girl.

-[gasps, laughs]
-She's really cute.

-[Matt] She's actually... definitely...
-Come see, I have some coats here.

This feels good, though.

[Jamie] Looks cute on you.

I like long because my butt's
really ghetto.

I'll show you.

It gets places before I do.
It's just big.

So, like, I just want
to cover it up, you know?

-Nah, you don't have to.
-[Melissa] This is so warm.

Oh, this is cute.

Look how cute...

Oh, my goodness.

Yeah, that's stank. I like it.

I think I'm going to have rice today.
All I do is eat rice.

This is cute.

Why don't I get the Californian?

[Matt] That's actually what I usually get,
the Californian.

[Melissa] Are you serious?
Oh, my God, we're in love.

How much did that cost you?
A million dollars?

A million! No, two million!

-How much did it cost?
-[Matt] Not much.

Oh, my gosh, you are so nice.
That's never happened to me, either.

It's weird, like,
you have really good manners.

[Matt] My dad taught me well.

So why aren't you dating someone?

Actually, I dated someone all last...
I dated someone for like a year.

You know, we dated for a long time
and that was... that was about it.

Oh, my goodness,
you're going to put my coat on for me?

You're just the cutest thing.

-Here, I'll take it for you.
-You are so nice.

You're grossing me out. [giggles]

[Melissa] It is completely not me
to date someone who opens doors for me

and helps me with my coat
and...

pays for things.
That has never happened to me.

[romantic music playing]

[Melissa] That was really nice.
He's super-duper nice.

It's weird,
'cause he was really a gentleman.

I'm surprised he went on a date with me,
'cause I don't seem like his type.

Like he doesn't seem
too into me, but we'll see.

[Danny] Is his family loaded?

Obviously, he's got a nice car.

He's so nice, too.

[Matt] She played this whole thing
between Matt and her,

to be this big, all-consuming drama

when, in reality,

neither of them has a clue
who the other person is.

And he said we'll go out
another time.

I could potentially date him, but...

I have to understand that he
really likes me and me only.

[upbeat music playing]

[Matt Smith] Let's go.

We're going to be super late.

On the first day of work.

Okay.

[woman laughing]

[laughs]

-Good morning.
-This way.

All right, problem number one.

First day on the job,
you guys are just about a half-hour late.

So, you've wasted a half hour of my time.

I don't think this is funny.

I really hope you're prepared.

Um, we chose the name
"The Real Big Easy."

[Kelly] We were throwing around tag lines,
just stuff like,

"We're real, we're big
and we're talking about politics today."

A little joke that we would have,
sort off...

"The Real Big Easy."

New Orleans is known as the Big Easy.

And locally,
there are the Big Easy Awards.

So to me, that's a little too easy.
No pun intended.

So, why don't you guys
kind of rethink that.

[tapping on table]

[Kelley] Elton's like a hard-a*s.

But I think that he does it because
when you get up in somebody's face

and you tell them that they can't do it,
they're going to do it better

because they're gonna want
to prove you wrong.

[Elton] So, tell me again who is going
to be the show producer.

That is the person that is responsible

for everything in that show.

And if you don't know now,

when we meet again,
I want you guys to tell me

who's going to do what for the first show.

[laughs] I... I don't like Elton very much.

"We're going to take disciplinary action,
we're going to write you up."

And I've heard that so many times.

I think he assumes
that we're going to, like,

slack or just totally fail at this.

No matter what we would
have gone in with,

even if he loved it,

he would have told us
to think a little harder.

So I mean, we will.

[hip-hop music playing]

[Melissa] Hey, it's Melissa.
What is the status for tonight?

[Warren over phone] It's all going to be,
like, downtown.

Going to, like, nice places.

Older crowd, it's not going
to be like college crowd at all.

[Melissa] Matt, who I went on a date with,

is planning this birthday limo ride.

Julie, you do want to go tonight, right?

I'll go.

-Happy birthday.
-Thanks, bud.

-Appreciate it, thanks.
-Good to see you.

[Melissa] I thought it was a limo.
I'm so nasty.

[Melissa] So, it's a, basically a date
with 16 or 17 frat boys.

[server 1] Belvedere.

[man 2] How about we toast
to Matt's birthday?

[Matt] I'm so honored that
I have everyone here.

All my good buddies
and my new close friends

Julie and Melissa.

[Melissa]
It's very nice and fun at first

but then, like, guys that act that way
wouldn't like a girl like me because

you know, I don't sip champagne
and mingle and all that

and, like, that's what I think
those guys are looking for

and I mean,
I'm not a typical girl.

You know, I feel like I can't be me.

[Melissa] My boobs are way
nicer than hers.

Have you seen my...
my butt's really nice.

I haven't seen it yet.

-I mean, have you seen...
-The jacket...

Have you seen hoochie
booty work pants?

I don't know
what to do with myself sometimes.

And... I'm scared all the time
in situations.

She's my... she's the hostess,
she's like the...

Don't roll your eyes at me.
I already can see.

I think Melissa finds comfort
in the attention of a guy like Matt.

Even though they don't
have that much in common,

she likes attention from men.

[dance music playing]

[car tire screeching]

-What up, dawgs?
-[Danny] What's up?

Is the hot tub hot?

-Are you? [laughs]
-[laughs]

It's really hot. Just be careful.

[jazz music playing]

What'd you think
if I splashed you a little bit?

Don't splash me, it's hot.

[whines mockingly]

-I'm not whining.
-[Matt] Oh, don't be mad at me.

You're a sweet girl.

Don't be trying to get fresh with me.

I don't want to. I mean,
that's not what it's all about.

If you want to get... sit with me.

He's like, "Come sit by me."

"Come sit by me."

What is that?

-You just want to get fresh with me.
-Don't push me.

He hasn't really even
asked me anything about me,

like, "What are your parents like,
what'd you go to school for?"

He hasn't asked me any of that.

So, don't you want to know about me?

Tell me a little about yourself.

[Melissa] And he's like putting his arms
and his little baby hands all over me.

Oh, they're getting it on.

-Oh, my...
-[gasps]

He tried to get fresh with me
and I was just grossed out.

You guys and your little
dry-clean-only clothes,

and your really nice SUVs,

like, I've never ever been
exposed to people like that.

In real life, at home,
you would not be digging me.

[Melissa] Are you rich?

Like, what are we talking about?

-Melissa, what's that matter?
-[Melissa] I just want to know.

Isn't it about what someone is?

He's very attractive,
but I can't deal with...

spoiled frat boys
in Gucci shoes.

Maybe we should stop talking about this
'cause it's getting you all grouchy.

You're the one that brought it up.

-Whose pictures are these?
-Jamie's.

Can I look at them?
Will you look at 'em with me?

What, do you want to make out
or something?

-Do you?
-No.

Good.

[Melissa] You're weird
with your little slip-on...

-[Matt] Why, you don't like my shoes?
-You're all fashion boy.

Like, I don't like boys
to dress prettier than me.

Can I walk you up to your room?

-No.
-Why?

So we can walk back down?

You got to give me a call.
So, that I can see...

if you're a normal person.

I had such a blast.
Thanks for being with me on my birthday.

You're welcome.

[grunts]

Okay, call me when you get home.

-All right, bye.
-[whimsical music playing]

Let's go, let's go, let's go.

Julie, we've got to go right now.

[Jamie] You know, I think Julie
takes longer to get ready

than anybody in the house.

We really need to find out
what areas we need to train you guys in.

We're going to give you a quick overview
of where everyone will be.

And how everything works.

[Matt] Kelley is the producer
and Danny is the technical director.

Between the two of them,
they are running the show.

Kenny is kind of going to
go through all the cameras,

how they're set up.
We'll go through floor direction.

It's going to be quick
talking back and forth

especially with four people on the set.

So, you're going to have these shots
and you'll be punching those.

Whoa, it's harder than it looks. Okay.

I get a kick on adrenaline

and sort of risk situations
that, I love that stuff.

[Stephanie] Fifteen seconds
till we come to studio.

Five, four, three, two, one.

Hi, and welcome to The Real Seven at 7:00
on Saturday night on Channel 77.

[Kelley] I think it's a huge challenge.

I hope that I can shine
and come out on top because

this means something to me.

[man] Wrap it up.

[applause]

[techno music playing]

I want love.

Love and sex and um...

[Kelley] You don't have to shuffle them
that way.

You can shuffle them however you want.
You could like throw them around the room

pick them back up again...
it doesn't matter.

Oh, my goodness.

-[all laugh]
-Oh, God!

-We have hell of w*r going on.
-[Melissa laughs]

Uh-huh, no love.

[chuckles]

This is the near future.
This is how all this...

-Oh, look how sad you are.
-[Melissa] Oh, no.

Does it say anything about making love?

[Kelley] Okay, this is all talking about
how there is somebody in your life

that is not anything like you

and that it's completely wrong for you
just to satisfy urgings with somebody

who is completely opposite
from your nature

and that even if you won their heart,
that moment would be an empty victory.

[gasps, laughs]

This is a true story, Kelley.

-Matt dumped me.
-Just now?

-No, but he hasn't called in three days.
-Oh. [laughs]

-[Julie] He didn't dump you.
-Yes, he did. He hasn't called.

He must think I'm not cool.

You have the upper hand
in this relationship.

It's not "dump"
when you went on one date.

[Danny] Of course she got dumped.

I'd dump somebody if they didn't kiss me
on my birthday, too.

-[Danny] Oh, she has been extra dissed.
-I was dumped.

It's just embarrassing.
That's what I get for trying new things.

That is what I get.

These kind of people that we're
meeting in normal Tampa life...

-Never.
-...would never, ever talk to me.

Right.

Uh, they would actually
snub their noses at me

-like... [scoffs]
-That's in Tampa.

Let's say you move
to a city like San Francisco

and they moved to a city
like San Francisco.

You might potentially interact, maybe.

[Mellissa] Just like we would never
potentially interact.

[Jamie] You just hold a big bias.

Yep, and they hold a bias against me
but the only reason why they like me is...

[Jamie] But you guys
are very similar people

-if you really think about it.
-No, we're so not.

You're guilty of-of stereotyping
a whole group of people.

She has issues with, you know,
rich, White.

-What about me, yo?
-I would never even talk to you.

[Jamie] Yeah, that's perfect.
You're arguing my point right now.

The relationship between Melissa
and I at this point...

how I view it, is that I am the embodiment
of everything that she hates. [chuckles]

[bell dings]

[phone line ringing]

-[Matt over phone] Hello?
-Is this Matt?

[Matt over phone] It is. How are you?

-Good. How are you?
-[Matt over phone] Did you get my message?

-No.
-[Matt over phone] I went out of town,

and I... I was thinking about this thing.
I just don't know.

It's one of those things.
I'm just unsure.

Mm-hmm, but I've been having
a really bad attitude about you, too.

I just thought
I was being used, that's all.

[Melissa] It's so not Melissa
that he's attracted to.

It's the glamour and the glitz
that goes with our beautiful house.

I'm getting attention from people
that wouldn't normally like me.

[Matt over phone] You gotta take
the people that want to be around you

are gonna want to be
around you for whatever. You know,

and if they're real, they're real,
if they're fake, they're fake.

-You'll be able to realize that.
-We're completely different.

You probably wouldn't like me
one bit in my regular setting.

[Matt over phone] I mean,
you never know that.

No, I know that.

He's got Gucci shoes on.

You know, I'm sitting here
in Target jeans.

It's just not going to work out.

[Matt over phone] So, I hope this isn't,
like, saying goodbye forever.

You know what I mean?

[instrumental music playing]

-[Matt over phone] Okay?
-All right.

[Matt over phone] So, hopefully
I'll see you. Take care.

All right. Bye.

I really want to believe that I am a prize
and I deserve to be earned.

He does not get it.

-Who?
-What, was that Matt?

[Melissa] I just apologized for an hour.

Let it go.

[Melissa] Right. It's so much easier
to just move on.

He's like, "It's a small city.
I'm going to see you again."

I was like...

[Kelley] "Okay." Just buy me a drink.

[Melissa] He was talking to me
like he was dumping me.

"I really just don't know."

I was like, "No, no. No, no.
I just told you no." [chuckles]

"What do you mean, you don't know?"

I need a listener.
I need some substance.

It'd be so much easier
if I just never talked to him again.

-All right, let's go to bed.
-[laughs]

[Melissa] Why should I lose sleep
over this?

You shouldn't.

That's why you should be
going to bed right now.

[Melissa] And boom, I'm done with it.

I'm just kidding. I don't even like sex.
It just grosses me out.

No, it does not.

All that breathing and panting
and sweating on me.

-I'd be like, "Oh."
-[laughs]

I bet I'd be the funniest person
to watch have sex.

This would be me.

-I have to lay down.
-I was, like... She's all, "Wait.

Let me get naked really fast,
and I'll show you."

This would be me having sex. [laughs]

I'd be like this. "Oh, okay."

-[laughs]
-"Okay, okay, we're sweating now."

"Wait, time out. Time out. Okay."

-"Hold on. It's just so hot."
-[all laugh]

It'd be so bad. I'd be like,
"Okay, you're sweating on me."
