in our first-ever pop up shop.

in the trendiest, most popular
shopping neighborhood

in New York City, SoHo.

Designers, for this challenge,
you will be working

in three teams of three.

CORNELIUS: The last
team challenge, I flopped,

so it's time for redemption.

GREGORY:
Each team will be working

with an assigned
Sally Beauty color palette.

Your looks
will be inspired

by your color palette.

Our first team will be working
with Red Violet.

And our first team member is...

Erin.

-I most definitely feel

like I am an outsider,
because they

are best friends.
I just think that

they might be really hard
to work with.

So, the team working
with New Neutral

JENNI:
I love neutrals.

I'm wearing one right now.

And the next team member
is Nathalia.

Oh, hey!

NATHALIA:
I'm actually really happy

that I get to work with Jenni.

-We'll make some magic happen.
-But...

it's not my favorite kind
of challenge, because you

kind of have to, like,

conform to other people.

And the next
team member is...

Mah-Jing.

-Yay.

-What kind of response is that?

Them two are best friends
in a competition, once again,

all three of us are part

of the strongest competitors

at this competition, so...

I'm extremely excited and happy

with the teammates that I got.

Each team will be creating

a cohesive three-look
collection.

about denim, so I was thinking

about denim with, like--
you know those punk jackets

that are painted in,
like, the real ones,

that you paint the edges
of all the pockets and,

-like the one I have?

I'm thinking that,
like, because we have

this red and pink thing,

I think it'd be
really cool to do

a nod to punk.

-You should do a jacket dress.
-I think that

-makes, like, the most sense.
-I almost

want to do, like,
an oversized coat for mine.

We should hard-core stick
to that theme of color.

Erin and I are

with different texture,

feelings, instead of trying
to create a sleeve.

I think it's more important
as a designer.

MAH-JING: I want to do, like,
a zip-up jacket fitted

with a skirt,
long pants and knee.

like, a heavily pleated skirt

-with a little b*mber.

I had in mind to make,

-DEXTER: I think wool

on the drop shoulder,

rock and roll vest and skirt.

-I want the collar and the lapel
to be red. -I like that.

classic motorcycle jacket.

Cori, what are you
patterning right now?

-Uh, my jacket.
-CORNELIUS: I'm working

on a plaid jacket
with a skirt to go with it,

and I'm gonna mix the plaids
and turn them different ways

so they're still matching,

but yet,
it doesn't look so boring.

Should I do a thin line here
next to it?

Let me envision it.

-NATHALIA: Jenni.

MAH-JING:
I'm frustrated at this point.

I find myself working by myself,

and, then, Jenni and Nathalia
are constantly having

small little meetings together.

beautiful extra wool?

my jacket with it,

and then it'll

NATHALIA: We are doing
what we want to do, so, like,

and we wanted to create looks

that would compliment the hair,

stand good by themselves,

keeping a sleek and clean look.

Nathalia, can you talk
about this coat?

I was thinking, what would
this SoHo woman want to wear

in the fall, and I was thinking,
like, a long jacket.

Can you open the coat, just so
I can see what's underneath?

You've each compromised
and lost yourselves,

and I'm just seeing blah!

MAH-JING:
I'm a little nervous.

I'm in a team with two
individuals who are friends.

If we don't pull it together,

they're gonna throw me
underneath the bus.

TIM:
Something needs to happen.

This gel matte lipstick

is the color of her skin almost.

I think on her,
we just wanted to work

about this wild

Chanel, and it's very classic.

the proportions,

I think they're clean.
I love the jacket.

fall collection.

in a SoHo storefront.

And what did you think of that?

and will not be judging
your looks.

That said,

CORNELIUS: I feel really good
about the collection.

I tried my best to match up
my plaids as best as possible

with the time constraint
that I had, on top of

trying to help out
everybody else.

I love it.

DEXTER: I'm so excited to see
our collection on the runway.

It's heavy on the red,

but, like, that's just,
like, a design aesthetic, and

I think that we really, really
hit the nail on the head.

♪ ♪

ERIN: I'm super psyched about
my jacket. I think the pockets

came out really cool.

I love our collection.
I love what we did.

There is all
of our aesthetics in there,

and I think that they
go together pretty well.

We slayed this.

NATHALIA: You can tell that
I am an outerwear designer.

NATHALIA: The two jackets
that I made look

really beautiful, and the pants

that I made look
really beautiful.

I'm just really proud of us.

ERIN:
I really love the popcorn top.

I feel like the sweater is
adding a pretty cool pop.

It looks really great with
the pants that Nathalia made.

MAH-JING: I really feel that we
really captured the SoHo woman.

I think
that our collection is sexy,

and it's chic,
it has sophistication to it,

it has that edge.
I'm super proud of us.

ROBERI: I feel very confident
about our looks.

I think
they look very well done.

I think it's cohesive
and current and relevant,

and I think
that's very important.

RIK: I'm really loving
the way it looks.

It's very Chanel, punk.
The slip dress

that I created underneath--
it looks great.

I think
we definitely amped it up,

and the girls look very hot.

LAURENCE: I'm impressed
that we were able

to create three looks
that were completely us.

Nina's gonna want that.

LAURENCE:
It just flows together, and...

I love it.

One member of the winning team

will be the winner

I know it's weird
for me saying this,

but I'm a little nervous
for Cornelius.

As much as I got a lot of love
for Erin and Dexter,

-it's just like... -They're
gonna throw him under the bus.

-MAH-JING: Damn.
-[laughs]

Team Red,
tell us about your collection

and please tell us who did what.

So, we wanted
to kind of do, like,

a nod to punk.

I worked on the piece
in the middle.

I just kind of wanted to use

some of my favorite things
about, like,

my rock vest
and a pocketed epaulette

instead of an actual epaulette.

And I wanted to go with
a new silhouette that wasn't

so, like, normal and basic,

so that it was
a little bit different.

I think we all worked
on the pleated skirt

together as a group.

We did an elevated eyebrow
with a double slash.

Different hues of red
going throughout the hair.

We thought that that would
tie it together.

I created

the jacket right here

and I wanted to play with lines,

so it's not
just the basic plaid.

And then I also created

the skirt in the third look.

And then, I did

the jacket with Sherica
and the top.

I just wanted to play on, like,
with the motorcycle jacket.

I do think you guys
did a great job,

but we have to compare you

to the other two teams
and I just think

that you guys were the weakest.

I believe it's because

it's red from head to toe.

Maybe in one look,
it would work,

but on three,
it just becomes an overload.

ZAC:
I love the jacket.

It looks very polished.

The middle dress,

just the fabrication

to the style,
falls flat.

The skirt, there's some
sewing problems on it.

It's a challenge
in one day to do

and engineer a pleated skirt.

The plaid in the jacket
to the skirt didn't help tie it.

It didn't transport me.

So, since you are
the losing team,

one of you
is going home tonight.

Dexter, who out of your team do
you think should go home today?

Oh... man.

[Dexter sighs]
I'm sorry, um...

I'm... I'm gonna have to say
Cornelius.

I'm sorry, Cornelius.

I'm in the middle
of two friends, so...

let's bring it on.
[chuckles]

design-design aesthetic-wise,

I just don't feel like
our stuff goes together.

And I feel like it was harder
for me to get him

into a different space

than his normal space.

Cornelius, how do you feel
about that?

I think... I think it's
like a stab in the back.

But... it-it is what it is.

I was going
the opposite direction.

Let's kind of tone it down
a little bit.

It is a little bit too red.

I mean, I tried to give o...
I did give options,

but I'm not here to throw
anybody under the bus.

I'm just here to say that
I was the mediator

and tried to bring

the cohesion into it, but yet,

people were like, "No, no, no."

So, I just started to say,

"Yes, yes, yes."

And then create my garments
and then

also help create
others' garments.

Cornelius, in your eyes,
who should go home today?

Based off of, like,
you know, like,

the styling and stuff,
I'm gonna have to say

Dexter because
it did become a lot red

with the handbag,
and then the socks and...

-I get it.

here we have Erin's look.

Here we have Dexter's look

and this is your look.

for Erin and Dexter.

You both say that

but is he really responsible

for the failure
of this collection?

What you guys are saying
is our biggest issue

is that we didn't
get another color.

In a way, that's really all
of our faults 'cause no one got

anything other than red at Mood.

-It was almost there.
-To me, the winning piece here

is the jacket.

Uh, nothing else really feels
redeeming to me.

Cornelius,
do you have anything more?

I'm not saying anything else.

I feel like I carried
a lot of load on me

while everybody,
you know, was, like,

Okay, now we're talking
to the winning team.

Team Blue, tell us about your
collection and who created what.

We wanted to take

this notion of the emotional

part of the blue color,

but trying to make it rebellious

and very detailed.

I made the-the first look.

The sweater, the skirt,
part wool, part leather

fused with wool.

Geometric shapes in the front.

So, I've designed the last look.

We agreed on colors
before we went to Mood.

And we decided to, uh,

use the white to break up
the blue color.

We also agreed on the woman
we were gonna design for.

Sophisticated
with, uh, with an edge.

I created an inspired Chanel
smoking, uh, look.

So, I did the pants and, uh,
the shirt and the jacket.

I created the middle look.

I found this gorgeous wool,

check tartan
that was double-faced

with the blue on the inside,
a dark, dark navy.

And then I created

the dress underneath, as well,

with the leather,
the silk linen sateen

underneath, and then the linen
tee on top with a little bit

of a chiffon silk,
as well, trim.

We all borrowed and played

with our own aesthetics,
just transferring

everything into one

cohesive collection.

I don't know which look
I love the most

because I love them all.

I think you did a fantastic job.

I love the plaid, the leather,

the patches on the sweater,

I love to see
the T-shirt underneath.

I love the skirt,

the leather and the plaid mix.

I love that it's not
a regular hemline.

I mean, literally, there's
nothing here where I would say,

"I wish you would of, could of,
should of."

I love it just the way it is.

-Wow.

In contrast

with the red group,
you used

white and black and other colors
to make that blue pop

and it popped perfectly.

It feels, in three pieces,

like a collection.

I could get that
jacket with that skirt.

I could have that sweater
with that pant.

And it would all work.

So, it's a collection.

And that was very gratifying.

the structure and texture

combined with comfort,
but still,

you know, I would wear that
down a red carpet.

The way that the dress
has got such a simplicity

that is so elegant
and effortless

with this incredible jacket
over it...

I'm obsessed

were just a little bit longer.

I am literally just
nitpicking because

I love every, single thing
that you have done

and I'm kind of a bit
mind-blown.

I would probably say myself,

just because, you know,

I love my coat.

and it was evident

that he had suggested that there

be something additional,

but I just have to say it:

we have two mean girls

on that team

and they beat up on him.

All I'm saying is he ended up

having the worst look
on the runway.

HEIDI:
This coat is stunning.

These pockets out here
like this,

that is really unique
and very cool.

My favorite part of the coat...

The fabric of the coat
is fabulous.

The detailing of the coat
is fabulous.

When this walked

the runway, I was like,
"Oh! A redeeming moment."

ZAC: But Erin wouldn't
have had a bottom

-to go with her jacket.
-TIM: Right.

She horded the skirt.

She put all her eggs
in one jacket.

-TIM: This is a total Dexter.
-Well, to me,

this is just terrible.

The one thing I'm really
confused about

is that if Dexter claims to be
so punk rock,

why did he give us
a samurai dress?

And why didn't he stud it

with tassels or something
to make it pop?

I like that it's denim.

ZAC: I see. I thought it
was all a one dress.

-KELLY: No.
-TIM: No.

-It's a skirt and a...

And I'm sorry,

-I just don't see punk in that.

And I mean, to me,

but I felt like they were

combinations of the textures.

the mismatched lengths

I didn't realize how chic
the fabric on the pants are.

Yeah, Laurence really has
beautiful taste.

It felt a little unfinished.

HEIDI: It's something
in the proportion.

What I love about it
is that it's chic,

but there's a sense
of comfort to it.

All in all, what's so impressive

is that in three looks,
they really gave you

-the sense of a collection.

We had very strong personalities

who do we want to see more of?
