We've been together for almost three years.
I'm going to miss Martin a great deal.
I love you.
Ooh!Hey, gentlemen.
I have made a couple of bets
that I will not hook up
in Key West, and I know
I will lose those bets.
Listen to this argument-- it's insane.
Did I complain once about going to a straight bar?!
No, why can't we compromise?
Listen, my entire life
is abiding by the straight agenda.
God forbid you abide bymyagenda.
This is the true story...
Of seven strangers...
Picked to live in a house...
Work together and have their lives taped...

When people stop being polite...
And start getting real.

Do you think heterosexuality is nature versus nurture?
What do you think it is?I don't think
people are just born not having a sexual preference
and then your environment makes you g*y or straight.
SVETLANA: I read a lot about being g*y.
I'm a biology student-- a major topic was always
if it's biological or if it has to do
with what your surroundings are,
and I believe that it's biological.
Your mom can't raise you to be g*y.
Absolutely not. Exactly.You are attracted,
your p*nis goes up because you see a guy, and that attracts you.
Martin's p*nis goes up 'cause he sees me
and it attracts him-- that's in his head.
It's not like I chose.
Right! It's just...
I've-I've tried it, at points in my life,
without coming out, to... not be attracted to men
when I was young. And it was hard.
Because it's hard.
I'm from an Evangelical Free family, like...
That's what Bush is, they're born-again.
I was brought up with that.
And so when you feel that shame, just kind of, like,
bashed into you, you, like, know that,
like, I was just not allowed.
You asked if I would ever choose to be straight-- I say, hell no,
because-because I'm g*y, I'm open, in that
I don't have to live by the strict standard
of heterosexual norms.
TYLER: We're on this island,
and we just don't know what to do-- so...
I decide to make some art...
and just kind of keep myself busy.
[phone rings]
JANELLE: Tyler!
TYLER: I started painting.
I'll be very honest: I think I'm the least
artistically inclined person ever.
You would be shocked at my painting.
Really?I was shocked when I saw it.
How big is Key West? Is it just like a city, like...?
Yeah, it's, like, it's not even...
It's , people.
There's no one in their s.
There's absolutely no g*y people under the age of .
And, like, the people I meet are, like,
"Oh, I have to introduce you to my friend."
And I meet the friend and I'm, like, "Were you born pre-JFK?"
[Kim laughs]
I think it's really difficult being a g*y man at this age,
because most g*y men aren't coming out
at , , .
So it's either date older men,
or just kind of wait for them all to catch up.
And so I think I'm at the point where I'm just gonna focus
on me and just have some fun.
I'm really late for a dinner date.
Oh, is that right?
Yeah, so... With who?
I was meeting my friend Steph.
So what's the deal with the car?
Um, 'cause I don't want to take it
and then have you guys no... no way to get...
How late are you gonna be out?Well, I don't know. I might...
We can cab it down, too.
Why don't you go out and be ready to be out for the whole night?
That's what I'm going...
That's fine, then. We'll take a cab down.
You sure?Yeah.
SVETLANA: Did you go to school or work today?
Neither.Why didn't you go
to school or work, though?
I wanted to be with my dad, 'cause he's not feeling good.
He's not?
No.
Martin and his dad are extremely close.
It's a huge deal to me that his dad is sick.
What's wrong with him?
What do you mean, what's wrong with him?
He's having a lot of trouble breathing.
He has pneumonia.

They don't know.
I'm sorry...

Martin's dad was diagnosed with lung cancer.
That's all I know.
He's really not doing well at all.
Is he on life support? No, not yet.
Was this, like, a long time coming?
He just got diagnosed, like, uh, two months ago.
He just got home about a week ago from treatment.
And he came home, and he couldn't breathe,
and he went to the hospital, it ended up he had pneumonia
because the immune system was so low.
Martin's not telling me anything, so...
SVETLANA: He's so consumed with being...
the man in the house and being there for his mom and his sister
that he can't ever just open up and be emotional to me
and tell me how he's feeling, and tell me what he's feeling
at that time, and what he needs from me.
All I know is that if he's been there since : in the morning
and didn't go to work and didn't go to school...
His dad's, like, .
He's still young.
I waited so long!Hi.
Stephanie is a very nice,
generous person, and she's fun to hang out with.
She's a real person, and she actually...

spiky hair, frat boy."No, he was, like...
TYLER: Okay, I walked in the bathroom
last night, he was chemically straightening his hair.
What! Who does that?I was, like,
"Are you frosting your hair? That's against the rules."
He goes, "I'm chemically straightening it."
She knows a lot of people in the town,
and she's gonna introduce me to some younger people.
And so that night they found this, like, really ugly g*y guy
that like came up to Janelle, and they're, like,
served him, like, "Oh, here you go, Tyler."
And I was, like, "Are you serious?"
