I can hear you from down the hall,
Addy. What's wrong?

I can't sleep.

I keep thinking about all the things I did
today, and everything going on tomorrow.

It's the third night in a row.

So maybe stop thinking then?

I tried not thinking.
That's the first thing I tried.

I just can't help it.

Then maybe stop making
so much noise. [yawns]

You're keeping me awake.

[groans]

[birds chirping]

[knocking]

Addy.

[grunts] Michael. What time is it?

Time to go to school.

[gasps] Oh, no.

I'm ready. I'm ready.

Aren't you forgetting something?

[groans] Be right back.

[sighs]

Are you sure
you're not forgetting something else?

My backpack.

[rummaging]

Um, do you have your lunch in there?

[sighs]

So I asked her, and Mom said we can
go to the arcade Saturday.

Uh-huh.

And I can ask two friends.

Mmm.

And then a giant came in
and ate my breakfast.

Uh-huh.

And Mom's breakfast.
And then he was still hungry.

Nice.

Addy. You haven't heard a word I said.

What? Oh, sorry, Maya.
I barely got any sleep last night.

Why not?

I have so much stuff going on,
that I can't stop thinking about it all.

Like my science project, the book
I'm reading, the cross-country race today.

I know I'm tired.

But everything keeps whooshing inside
my head like towels in a washing machine.

-Are you worried about something?
-I don't think so.

Just when my mind gets a little quiet
and I think I can sleep,

-my body does something to wake me up.
-Your body?

I'll get a jiggle in my leg or an itch,

and suddenly I'm wide awake
thinking about everything again.

Wow.

Well, you've got that big race
after school.

Maybe try and rest up
on your breaks today.

Oh, no.

What's wrong?

I didn't bring my uniform, Asha.

I was so tired this morning,
I must have forgotten to pack it.

No worries. I have an extra one
you can borrow.

[sighs] Thank you, thank you, thank you.

[applause]

[horn honks]

[crowd cheers]

[panting]

[panting]

Come on. I got this. [panting]

-[applause]
-[panting]

Addy, you came in last.

I know.

You're usually at the front of the pack.
Are you okay?

[sighs] I'm just tired today.

Need any water? I brought an extra.

[sighs] Thanks.

Hello, Addy. How was your day?

[sighs] Terrible.

I left without my shoes,
and I almost fell asleep in class.

And I even forgot all of my gear
for the cross-country meet.

That's a lot to deal with in one day.

Yeah.

It's all because I couldn't sleep
last night.

Would you like to sit with me
and talk about it?

How did the meet go?

It was the worst I ran all year.

My legs were heavy like big rocks,
and my head felt all sloshy.

I finished last.

Oh, I see.

And you say
you haven't been sleeping very well?

It's been three nights, and now I'm afraid
it's going to happen again tonight,

and then tomorrow will be even worse.

What happens for you at night
when it's getting close to bedtime?

Well, when I finish my homework,
I brush my teeth, get in bed,

and then I just lie there
and stare at the ceiling.

It's like my mind can't stop talking.
It's like there's a puzzle I can't solve.

All these things you're feeling
remind me of someone

who also had trouble falling asleep.

Did they figure out how to fix it?

Let me tell you the story.

[Stillwater] Levi was a lamb
who lived with his mother, Juniper.

Mmm. [kisses]

[Stillwater] After a full day
of school and playing,

-Levi always went right to sleep.
-[switch clicks]

[Stillwater] Until one night,
he didn't go right to sleep.

[thuds]

-[thudding]
-[grunting]

[thudding continues]

Hey. I hear you're still awake.

It isn't playtime now, Levi.

Can I finish my puzzle? I almost got it.

It isn't puzzle time either.
Let's put it away on your shelf.

[kisses]

[Addy] Did Levi get to sleep?

[switch clicks]

[Stillwater] Not yet.

[switch clicks]

[guitar playing]

[sighs]

Still not asleep?

I know it's bedtime, Mama,
but we have a song to learn for school.

Back into bed, please.

Tell me a story.

Once there was a little lamb
who went to bed. The end.

[both chuckle]

[kisses]

-[switch clicks]
-[door closes]

[grunting]

[sighs] Mmm.

-[Levi laughing]
-Hmm?

-[groans]
-[thudding]

-[Levi giggling]
-Huh? Levi?

We learned jumping jacks in school today,
so I was trying to see how many I can do.

Oh. But, honey, why can't you sleep?

I keep thinking about school,
playing ball, my puzzle, my chores.

Remember when you were little?
You used to see how high you could count?

Yeah. I was so proud when I got to 100.

[chuckles] Me too.

Now close your eyes, breathe deeply
and try to count backwards from 100.

That's easy for me.

[breathes deeply]

-100, 99, 98…
-Keep going.

-Ninety-seven, 96… [yawns]
-[footsteps departing]

[switch clicks]

Keep counting.

[Stillwater] When the mind is restless,

often, focusing on something simple
gives it just the quiet it needs.

[Levi in distance] Sixty-two, 60…

[sighs]

[Stillwater] Especially in the case
of this counting sheep.

So you're saying I should count backwards?

[chuckles] If that works for you.

But that isn't all Levi did.

He put everything else aside.

His ball, his puzzles, his guitar.
They all went on the shelf.

Yes.

Your thoughts, plans and worries can be
put aside too, just like Levi's toys.

How?

When you focus
on one simple, relaxing thing,

that can help you
put your other thoughts on a shelf.

Let's think of some ways to do that
when you go to bed tonight.

[Stillwater]
If you have a lot of thoughts before bed…

[spits]

…try writing them down.

You might try keeping your bed
as a place for sleep, not for homework.

Now, there's also a very special
breathing technique you can do.

[breathing deeply]

[Stillwater] Breathe deeply,
notice and then relax your toes.

Then breathe…

[exhales]

…notice and relax your feet.

Then notice and relax your lower legs,

-your upper legs…
-[breathing deeply]

…then breathe…

all the way up to your head.

And when you get to your head, breathe.

Relax your chin, then breathe.

Then relax your neck, breathe.

Relax your shoulders, breathe.

And keep going until you're fast asleep.

Good morning, Jasper.

[meows]

That wasn't a very good idea,

[Addy] Stillwater.

Hello, Karl, Addy, Michael.

We're going
to the Children's Museum today.

We're taking a train.

We're going to see
a special weather exhibit.

We're taking a train to get there.

We're going to build a tornado in a bottle

and make a rainbow
and all kinds of cool stuff.

And we're going on a train.

That sounds wonderful.

Mumu has never been on a train before.
She can't wait.

Are you sure you wanna bring Mumu, Karl?

Mom said it was okay.

I know.

But you have to take care of Mumu all
day long on the train and at the museum.

That's a big responsibility.

I can do it.
I always take good care of my Mumu.

[Jasper meows]

What's all that yarn, Stillwater?

That is my scarf, Addy.

-[Jasper groaning]
-[Addy] It doesn't look like a scarf.

[Stillwater chuckles]
At the moment, it doesn't.

You see, I saw a loose string
and made the mistake of pulling on it.

[all laugh]

So, I guess
while you're on your adventure,

I'll be doing some knitting.

I'm hoping by the time you return, my
mistake will look like a scarf once more.

[laughs] Sounds like you're gonna be busy.

Oh, we gotta go.

-[Karl] Goodbye.

Hi, Stillwater. We're back.

Welcome back. How was the museum?

We had the best day.

I learned how to make an air-pressure
barometer. They use them on airplanes.

And I got to look at some snowflakes
under a magnifying glass.

That sounds magical.

I could see that a snowflake
has six points, and kind of sparkles.

I can't wait to try drawing one.

The museum was fun.
But the train ride was awesome.

Mumu loved it.

Hey, where is Mumu?

Mumu?

When did you last see her, Karl?

She was right next to me on the train.

Do you think you might have
left her on the train?

[gasps] Oh, no.

I did. I did leave her on the train!

Oh, Karl.

We gotta go back and get her.

Karl, that train is long gone by now.

But Mumu's on it. She's on it all alone.

It's going to be okay, Karl.
Just take a breath.

I forgot my Mumu. [sniffles] I forgot her.

[crying]

-It's okay, Karl. We'll find her.
-Yeah.

Maybe someone already found her
and put her in the lost and found.

[Karl crying and sniffling]

-Really?
-Maybe.

[sniffles] She'll be really scared.
We have to get her.

I would be happy to take you
to the train station to look for her.

[sniffles] Oh, thank you, Stillwater.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I'm sorry, Karl.
The station is closed for the day.

We'll have to come back tomorrow
to look for Mumu.

No, not tomorrow. Today!

She needs me today!

What if I can't find her?
What if I never see her again?

[crying and sniffling]

We don't know the answers
to those questions yet, Karl.

But Addy and Michael and I
are here with you.

I just wanted Mumu to have fun with us.

[sniffles] I didn't mean to leave her.

-[sniffling and crying]
-I know, Karl.

I think we should go home now, Karl.

There's nothing we can do
until the station opens tomorrow.

No, we can't leave!

We have to stay right here
until the station opens. [sniffles]

We could do that, or we could go home
and come back in the morning.

No, we can't go home until I find Mumu.

[crying and sniffling]

How about if I tell you story?

After that, you can decide if you want
to stay or come back tomorrow.

Okay. [sniffles]

Not so long ago,

in a beautiful land of tulips
and windmills, known as the Netherlands,

there lived a young girl named Anneke.

Beautiful.

[Stillwater] Young Anneke
loved visiting her uncle's tulip farm.

The flowers were like her friends.

Every color seemed to have
its own personality.

[laughs] Hey!

[Stillwater] At the edge of the field
was an old stone wall.

On the other side of the wall
was water as far as you could see.

Anneke was always told
to be careful around the old wall,

so she usually stayed away.

But one day when visiting
her friends, the flowers,

she noticed a leak coming through
one of the low stones on the wall.

Oh, dear! I should go and tell Uncle
about this leak.

But maybe I can fix it myself.

If I just push the stone back in…

Whoa! [stammers] Oh, no.

[exclaims] Oh, dear! No!

[grunts] Stop!

[grunting]

[Uncle] Anneke, careful!

[groans] The tulips. They're washing away.

[cries, sniffles]

Oh, Uncle.

I was just trying to fix the wall,
but it only made things worse.

It was an accident, Anneke.

I wish I could go back and just…
[sniffles] …tell you about the leak,

so none of this
would have happened. [sniffles]

[chuckles] Oh, well,
we can't do that, dear Anneke.

What's done is done.

Can I do anything to make it better?

Why, yes. We both can.

[Stillwater] The next day,

armed with mortar and stones,
Anneke helped her uncle repair the wall.

And this will make the wall better?
And help keep the flowers safe?

I believe it will.

[Stillwater] The day after that,
they replanted the bulbs.

Anneke still felt sad
for the flowers she lost.

But there was comfort in knowing
that she did everything she could

and that new blooms would come in time.

Anneke didn't mean to break the wall.

Just like I didn't mean to leave Mumu
on the train.

That's right, Karl.

Can I do something too?
Something to help find Mumu?

Yes, you can.

All of us will do whatever we can
to help you find her.

Sure.

We'll start by going home
and making some flyers.

And we'll come back first thing in
the morning to check the lost and found.

Let's put the flyers everywhere.

Those are wonderful ideas.

Come on.
Let's go home and make the flyers.

Then we'll come back tomorrow
and get my Mumu back.

Stillwater,
do you think I'll ever find Mumu?

I don't know the answer to that, Karl.

But no matter what happens,
I know Mumu is going to be okay,

and so will you.

[train approaching]

[brakes hissing]

Well, hello there.

-Hello, Mrs. Wilson.
-Hi, Mrs. Wilson.

I just saw this flyer.
Did you make this, Karl?

Uh-huh. I accidentally left my Mumu
on the train.

Well, it's a funny thing.

I just got off the train,
and I had the most unusual seat mate.

-You did?
-Yes.

She seemed to be having a great adventure.

But I thought perhaps
she might like to come with me.

I'm glad she did.

My Mumu!

-How wonderful.
-You found her.

Oh, thank you, Mrs. Wilson.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

[Mrs. Wilson]
Oh, you are very welcome, Karl.

I missed you, Mumu.

I was so sad and scared.

I'm sorry, and I promise
to do my very, very best

to never leave you behind again.

I think Mumu missed you too.

Come on. Let's go take down
all those flyers we put up.

Your Mumu was lost, but now she's found.

Did you have a good adventure, Mumu?

Was it fun on the train all that time?

I like trains, but that was a long time.

Were you scared? Did you miss me?

[speaking indistinctly]
