I grew up thinking that there was
something terribly wrong with me.
[unsettling music rises]
Every preacher worth their salt
uses personal experience in the pulpit.
I probably had
the worst childhood you could imagine
'cause I was hurt,
growing up, by Christian people.
In church. Like, that was the…
If you're gonna be hurt,
let an atheist hurt me or something.
Let some agnostic devil worshipper,
but not a Christian.
That's the worst…
And I grew up hating Christians…
[Pam] By the time I met JP,
he and his father were estranged.
Dr. Miller had been a pastor
in Myrtle Beach.
His dad had already had
a number of legal issues.
And questionable circumstances happened.
He expressed that he had been a victim
to his father's passions
and… and own weaknesses.
Everywhere we go, we are asked to submit
and come under some type
of human authority in our life.
His father had many outside relationships,
outside of his marriage.
Some with men, some with women.
[voice breaking] There's no such thing
as the perfect earthly dad!
Um, my dad never got
Father of the Year Award. Not even once.
[Pam] I mistakenly believed
he was authentic
in his desire to serve God's people.
[emotionally] I wish that I had known
the level of deception that was going on.
JP and Wayne seemed to be,
to me, very different people.
But I find it difficult
to not recognize the patterns.
As more and more of this came out,
I knew I had been entirely wrong.
[tearfully] You can't keep me down.
-You're putting fuel in my plane.
-[churchgoer exclaims]
And guess who's not gonna be
in the plane? My enemies.
[unsettling music peaks, fades]
[gulls calling]
[Bruna] I met Mica on the beach
to do our Bible study together.
She served JP the papers that day.
She said,
"I can't wait till this year's over."
And she was really happy
to be moving past this.
[Sierra] It was a mass text Mica had sent
to Nate, Abby, and myself.
"John-Paul was just served."
Don't wanna cry. [laughs, sniffles]
When people get served papers,
they usually get pretty upset.
[lock clicks]
[Bruna] I am so scared for her.
[Regina] Mica was scared.
She needed a restraining order
to stop him from following her around,
contacting her incessantly.
And part of gettin' a restraining order
is we have to prove to the court
that she needs it.
Now, this is Mica's handwriting.
Mica wrote these… these two pages.
[Mica] Paid three homeless people
to engage in threesome.
Shown picture of my naked body
in sexual postures
to members of Solid Rock.
Injecting me with the hormone testosterone
so that I could "keep up"
with John-Paul's sex drive.
I am afraid he will harm me
due to past g*n violence.
[Regina] Mica made it very clear
that it was important to her
to expose the things
that he had done to her.
Mica's hearing was not set until June 5.
Way too far out.
Too much time in between there.
With no restraining orders,
nothing to stop him,
Mica was under a lot of stress.
She had no idea what… what was he gonna do
after he got served the paperwork?
Is it gonna shut him down?
Is it gonna make him worse?
Is he gonna ramp it up?
[Dianna] Around nine o'clock
in the morning,
I started hearing Mica
a little bit in her room.
And she was talking on the phone.
Mica called, and she was upset.
Dealing with so much.
She got a job, but she was scared
John-Paul was gonna show up.
I prayed with her over the phone
just to try to help calm her down.
That was the end of the conversation.
[Dianna] Mica came out of the bedroom,
maybe about 9:30, quarter to ten.
She got herself a cup of coffee.
I walked over to her,
put my arms around her,
and gave her a hug and said,
"Let's pray," and so we prayed.
She said, "I'm gonna go for a little ride,
and I'll be back soon."
She did have to be to work
at 12 noon at J Peters, the restaurant
up in Carolina Forest, that day,
and so she said she'd be back
in time to get ready for work.
When she came back I said,
"Are you okay? How are you doing?"
She said, "I'm good. I'm better."
"I'm gonna change and go to work."
[Cloud] When I get into this and I start
to… to look at what the scriptures say,
I came across this passage,
and here it is.
You might… Remember the song by The Byrds?
♪ Turn, turn, turn
To everything, there's a season ♪
[Sierra] Mica called me.
My daughter was asleep
on me when she called.
I didn't want her to wake up.
I texted her and said,
"Sorry I missed your call."
"I had my volume down."
She never called me back.
[eerie music playing]
[operator] Robeson County 911.
What's the address of your emergency?
[Mica] Hi, um, are you able to trace
the location of my phone?
I'm about to… k*ll myself
and… I just want my family
to know where to find me.
[operator] Just listen
to what I'm saying, okay?
Let me make sure I got
the exact location where you're at, okay?
Just one minute.
-[call disconnects]
-[line buzzes]
[Dianna] A couple of hours passed
after she should have been home.
My heart started pounding.
I texted her to ask her if she was okay.
Didn't hear back from her.
[operator] 911.
What's the address of your emergency?
[man] Um, I think I just found a body
in the water down there.
[somber music rises]
Hello, Ms. Niosi.
-Did I say your last name right?
-[Dianna] Yes.
Okay.
The officer from Robeson County
said to me,
"Do you know a Mica Miller
and a John-Paul Miller?"
And I said, "Yes."
He said, "I need John-Paul Miller's
phone number. Do you have it?"
I said, "Well, what's happening?
What's going on?"
And he said to me,
"Mica Miller has been found deceased."
And I just kept saying,
"No. No. No. Can't be. No."
I finally was able to say,
"What happened?"
"Can you tell me what happened?"
He said, "I can tell you
it was not an accident."
Shortly after that,
Suzie Skinner's name came up on my phone.
I answered. It was JP.
I was absolutely shocked out of my shoes.
He said, "What happened?"
I said, "Don't know."
And then he said,
"I gotta go," and hung up.
[Nate] We were sitting on the couch,
and the cops called me.
I just got lightheaded.
[crying] I didn't know what to think.
I was hoping it was a bad dream.
[sniffles]
[Nate] First thought that came to my mind
was, "What did John-Paul do?"
[Sierra] Nate called me.
Just started punching holes
in my wall in my kitchen.
And then I just sat
on the floor and cried.
[Destinee] I just felt like the floor
got dropped out from underneath of me.
How much time passes, I don't even know.
My phone lit up, and I was like,
"Who's texting me this late?"
And my fiancé was like, "What's wrong?"
And I said, "Mica's dead."
[group] ♪ Happy birthday, dear Mica ♪
♪ Happy birthday to you ♪

[Sierra] And then John-Paul texted
our group chat and said,
"This is what happens
whenever you tell a mentally ill person
they don't need medicine
and keep them
from the one person who cares about them."
[Laura] My phone texts are going off.
And I get, "Hey, Laura.
This is Pastor JP Miller."
"I thought you should know
Mica k*lled herself earlier today."
"She needed her lithium
because she had been having
a three-month psychotic episode."
"I told everyone I could
that she wasn't acting normal,
but nobody believed me."
It came crushing over me
that this is not God's will.
This is not God's timing.
This is man's manipulation,
man's deception.
[Bruna] I had a missed call from Victoria.
Mica was found dead
with a g*nsh*t wound to the head.
And I… I lost it.
She said, "I do not want to die."
"I want to live. I want to honor God."
"And he's going to k*ll me."
That's exactly her words.
[Erica] Mark Kaufman had texted me
and very bluntly said,
"Mica k*lled herself."
And I immediately called Charlotte
and had to tell Charlotte. [crying]
[Charlotte] It was kind of
an out-of-the-blue call
at like 12:30 at night.
I just didn't believe it.
I was in… in total shock.
My husband and I get
a text from John-Paul.
[Erica] Then the next thing I knew,
my husband told me that John-Paul
was still gonna preach a sermon.
And I said, "I can't believe
that he would get up and preach."
"That doesn't make any sense."

[JP] Good afternoon.
So, I wrote a new parody for y'all today.
[churchgoers cheer]
My best friend, Mark…
I've been begging him
for 25 years to stand up and sing,
so it's the first time ever

and stranger from there.

and don't talk about the announcement

Um, I got a call late last night.
-My wife has passed away.
-[churchgoers murmur]
Yeah. And it was self-induced,
and it was, uh, up in North Carolina.
And, um, we're gonna have a funeral
for her next Sunday, here at 3:00 p.m.
Y'all pray for me
and my kids and everybody.
And, uh, she wasn't…
Y'all knew that she wasn't well mentally.
And that, uh, she needed her medicine
that was hard to get to her.
And so, um, I'm sure there'll be
more details to come.
But just keep our family in your prayers.
And I'm gonna let Pastor Randall,
my bishop… He can pray.

John-Paul was preaching it was a suicide
before the coroner's report was even out.
We wanted to make sure
that the police did an investigation.
[Abigail] Robeson County had come
to Myrtle Beach
to speak to us as a family.
They only interviewed Nate and Sierra.
They put me in one car
and Nate in another area
and just asked us like,
"Who do we think did this?"
"Do we have any, like, information of
why something would have happened to her?"
We just said, "Yes.
She's in the middle of a divorce."
"This has been
a really dangerous situation."
Mica was being watched 24/7,
being stalked.
I provided the videos and the pictures
of the caltrops, the trackers.
[tense music rising]
[Sierra] And they said,
"We're doing everything we can."
"We're gonna make sure
that we look under every rock."
"And we turn every stone."
They reassured us that
there was gonna be some justice.
[mournful music playing]
[Dianna] John-Paul was so anxious
to get some of her writings
and some of her journals.
I knew that he was going to destroy them
or deny that they existed.
So I called Nathan, and I said,
"I think you need to get over here
as quickly as you can."
"Because John-Paul wants
to come and pick up some things."
[Abigail] I get to Dianna's house.
My brother's already there.
He's packing all of Mica's stuff.
We were just making sure
if there was anything
that would have led to her passing
that we could possibly find.
We feel behind her headboard,
see if there's anything
that she might have taped.
Look underneath her dresser.
Pull apart her bed.
See if there's anything
between mattresses.
We grabbed anything
that we thought would be important.
And… we left.
Myrtle Beach Police and Fire.
This is Carly.
[JP] My wife, she passed away
a few days ago.
And some of her belongings are
in an apartment,
and the lady that owns the apartment
won't let me get that stuff.
Is there any way I could have
an officer meet me
so I can just get a few of her belongings?
[Carly] Is there a reason they're saying
you can't get the belongings?
[JP] Yeah, it's an old lady
that has the apartment.
And she just doesn't like me.
She just… just… just doesn't like me.
Not five minutes after they left,
I got a call from the front office
that said Mr. Miller was there
with a police officer
and wanted to come and get Mica's things.
And I said, "No, it's not okay with me."
"I do not have a single thing that belongs
to Mica in my home anymore."
[phone chimes]
[Laura] JP reached out,
wanting to collect all my notes
on my time with Mica.
And he made it sound official
and clinical,
and he was gonna come collect the notes,
and where was my office located?
I shared with him
that I didn't have notes.
And even when Mica and I met,
there were times we shredded things
because we really wanted them
gone forever.
That caught him off guard
that I didn't have notes for him.
He asked me, "When is the last time
Mica spoke with you?"
I said, "I'll have to check my calendar."
And then he says, "Did Mica
share with you her phone number?"
"Would you mind telling me which number?"
"I'd like to know
if it was her burner or not."
"And I'd like to know
as to what level she trusted you."
And then he follows up with,
"The police asked me as well.
They're investigating the death."
"Even though it all points to suicide."
He is trying to take access
of every communication
she could have possibly had
with any person.
So he can end her narrative
and start his narrative.
[birds singing]

[Regina] John-Paul Miller
called my office incessantly.
This is Attorney Regina Ward.
Can I help you?
Hey, Regina. This is John-Paul Miller.
How are you?
[Regina] Um, I've had better days.
[JP] Yeah, me too. Me too. Definitely.
Um, my wife's Mica Miller.
I think she hired you a few weeks ago.
[Regina] You don't think she hired me.
You know she hired me,
because you got served a lawsuit
two days before she died.
[JP] Yes. That's correct.
[Regina] Okay,
so let's get the facts straight.
What do you want?
[JP] I think, the way you're treating me,
you're unaware of exactly…
She left out things when she spoke to you…
The mental institute and the suffering.
[Regina] I was gonna say,
you wanna fill in the gaps for me?
[JP, tearfully] Yes, ma'am. I'd love to.
So, we had an amazing marriage, um…
[Regina] That's a lie.
[JP] No, it was phenomenal.
We have… I have every proof in the world
that she loved everything about her life.
When she's on her medicine,
she's the most integrate,
excellent, perfect…
She would never even text a male
outside of a group with me
when she's on medicine.
But when she came off, she was
a completely different person, and…
And, um, uh… she tried to k*ll herself
many times over the years before,
and, um, and I was able to stop her
and get her the… get her the lithium
and get her to her doctor…
[whimpering] But this time, she left.
And I told everybody I have probably…
I have about… about 45 text messages
when I told them she needs lithium,
and somebody's gotta get her
to a hospital, and nobody believed me.
[sighs, exhales sharply]
I'm sorry. And, um… she wouldn't do it,
and so, I kept telling everybody.
I told the lady she was with,
"She's gonna crash."
"I've seen it. It's happened before."
They did the toxicology report.
It'll be ready in three weeks--
[Regina] Well,
that's the toxicology report.
Were you gonna have 'em do an autopsy too?
Just to make sure?
[JP] Um, they didn't ask me about that.
I don't know what that m…
I don't know what that would mean or do.
I don't understand.
[Regina] Usually autopsy tells
a little bit more about things.
[JP] No, we gave away her eyes, and, um…
They're doing a toxicology.
That's all I know about that.
And I got to see her body,
uh, Sunday night, you know.
And spend some time with her, and…
So… You've seen her, so you know
how incredibly beautiful she was.
Even in her death, he put a lock on her.
He had everything just planned
within days of her passing.
John-Paul was rushing to get her cremated.
And then he rushed
the funeral, memorial service.
Of course, that's a red flag to us.
My siblings are like,
"No, we're not gonna go."
"We'll figure out another way
to honor Mica."
[tense music playing]
Um…
You know, I… I've been, um…
[hesitating] I've been,
uh, speaking for many years,
and for the first time,
I don't really know exactly…
you know, how to open,
or how to close, or any of that.
Um… [clicks tongue]
But, um, she loved… She told me…
To take… She… she was so creative.
Everything she did was so creative.
What's the next picture?
[sobbing]
I got this.
Laid next to her body and spent time
with her body about four times this week.
And each time, it still didn't hit me.
Um, I thought she was gonna wake up,
you know?
I even tried to raise her
from the dead one time this week.
Um, I'm so sorry that I'm nervous.
I'm so sorry. I just, um…
I just… I still…
It hasn't really still hit me yet.
[Regina] The Robeson County
Sheriff's Department
closed the investigation.
It was ruled a suicide.
We go get a debrief from them.
[Abigail] There were screenshots
of Mica's phone
of how to get to the pawn shop
where she had purchased the g*n.
And she googled "national park."
[unsettling music playing]
[Nate] It's so hard to understand.
I just could not accept it.
[Anna] And they said that the inflictions
coincided with suicide.
We just couldn't believe it.
I feel like Mica was lured
to where she was found.
I just have a gut instinct
that she did not do this to herself.
I think something happened.
Somebody k*lled her
and tried to make it look like a suicide.
I believe she bought the firearm
for protection.
For her to drive an hour and a half
into the middle of nowhere
makes absolute zero sense.
[Charlotte] She would not have done it.
He knew that
if she was going to divorce him
that he would lose the church again.
And that's why she's dead.
We have not had time to grieve
because we've been seeking justice.
And we're still in the stage of fighting.
We are still fighting for Mica.
We are still fighting for answers.
This isn't done.
We will figure things out.
And it's all in God's timing.

I fully believe that John-Paul,
in the core of his body,
thought that all of this
was gonna blow over.
And that he was gonna be able
to control everything in the church
and control everything with our family.
He really didn't think anybody
was going to stand up to him.
Mica Miller's family and friends want
to know what happened to her.
The investigation into the sudden death
of a popular South Carolina pastor's wife.
John-Paul Miller reportedly telling
his congregation she took her own life.
But her family is demanding answers.
It got to a point every time
I opened up social media,
it was a video about Mica.
She filed for divorce
and a protective order.
Now her husband is claiming
that she took her own life.
It got bigger and bigger.
More disturbing information
on John-Paul has come out.
On March 11, she called
the police twice on JP Miller.
We're talking
about the 911 call with Mica Miller.
I'm just gonna say
that JP Miller was in no way prepared
for the internet community.
The fact that that man
didn't shed one tear.
He didn't wince once.
And let's get into
why I believe he is lying.
[man] This story exploded in interest.
And I thought,
this is a story I have to look into more.
If my wife was found dead,
I almost certainly would not be
in front of a… a congregation of people
the next day,
announcing that she had taken her life.
I made phone calls to her family
and people who knew her well.
And instantly, they said,
"Something is not right here."
And I got on a plane
to be there the next day.
Usually, in situations
where a spouse winds up dead,
you have to pay close attention
because these divorce proceedings
can be triggering events.
The fact that she had filed for divorce
and was trying to leave her husband,
to me, was another confirmation
that all may not be as it appears here.
Nate shared with me
an affidavit written by Mica.
It was like a, uh…
a roadmap from the grave.
[Mica] I was 13 years old
when I met John-Paul Miller as my pastor.
Since the day we became husband and wife,
I have been abused
in every way I can think of.
Emotionally, sexually, spiritually,
financially, and physically.
Does abuse hurt people?
How do you think God feels about that?
[Rich] When I saw some of the videos
that she'd posted,
I was trying to assemble like a picture
in my mind of what her past couple months
looked like.
Life's been kinda crazy
the couple past weeks,
months, uh, years.
[Rich] I decided I wanna retrace
Mica's steps to the best that I could.
She went to d*ck's Pawn Shop
in Myrtle Beach.
She left d*ck's Pawn Shop,
got back in the car,
started driving north
to Mullins, South Carolina,
where she stopped at a gas station,
and continued north
towards Lumber River State Park.
It's kind of an eerie place.
Hours away from Myrtle Beach,
so why go there?
When police find Mica's body,
she is face down in the river.
They find two spent casings
and a live round on the bank of the river.
Her body was found 100 feet away.
The stretch of water where she was found
has very little current,
making it unusual
for a body to drift that far.
How does a body wind up 100 feet away
from where the spent casings
were on the bank?
A lot of this just doesn't really add up.
I was always texting with JP,
always hoping
that he will sit down with me, and,
finally, he said,
"All right, I'm… I'm in."
He seemed a bit nervous.
He had brought a binder with him.
[JP] This is the paper that her, um…
Waccamaw Mental Health used.
to get probate court
to have a sheriff to pick her up.
And it says she's homicidal
and suicidal, uh,
making threats of suicide and bodily harm.
[Rich] He called it his "evidence."
"This is my truth" type of thing.
I'm gonna be fair here.
Like, I'm just gonna give…
give him the floor.
Before I even asked a question,
he started crying,
almost uncontrollably.
[JP sniffles]
[Rich] You need a minute?
-[unsettling music playing]
-[JP crying]
Oh, man.
Oh, man.
I was just, like, looking at my crew,
looking at the producer,
just waiting for him
to kind of cry this out.
[Rich] What's tripping you up?
Just… being able to tell…
Just being able to talk about everything…
It feels like that…
people don't care to hear the truth.
They just, um…
They just wanna go off of feelings and
believe whoever screams the loudest,
rather than whoever has the proof.
So I asked him, um,
"Do you feel that you have
any responsibility for Mica's death?"
And that question,
uh, set him off.
He goes, "Oh my God!
That's just a great question!"
God, that's a great question!
[clears throat] Man!
That's such a good question!
-Wow. Good question. Can I have a second?
-[Rich] Sure.
Okay. Oh my gosh,
that's such a good question.
What would I do differently?
Oh man. Oh! I know what I'd do!
I know what I'd do. I know.
I would not involve her family
when she's having mental episodes.
I would never have texted them.
One of the things that John-Paul
was trying to lie on our family about
was that we told her
not to take medication.
I'm pretty sure John-Paul's
the only person
that's kept medication from her.
Whenever she had talked to our family
about possibly weaning herself
off of her medication,
we all told her,
"You need to seek medical advice."
Where were you when Mica died?
I was… It was on a Saturday.
In Charleston with about 100 people.
It was a soccer tournament.
I mean, I'm not a detective.
I watched Scooby Doo growing up, but…
that's what everybody's acting like,
is they're being a part
of the Mystery Machine.
But, my Lord, like, let my wife…
let her… let her be at peace.
After all the time spent reporting
on this case,
none of it really sits well with me.
If it was a suicide,
if she did take her own life,
what led her to that?
When you look at the full picture,
it feels less like a woman
simply choosing to end her life
and more like someone
who is trying to get away
from an a*usive relationship and couldn't.
A phrase that I've come to accept
is the phrase "m*rder by suicide."
There is some level of responsibility
on the other person.
In this case, John-Paul Miller.
-[Nate] What do we want?
-[group] Justice for Mica!
-[Nate] When do we want it?
-[group] Now!
[Rich] The community was now starting
to see who JP really was.
[Bruna] I believe
that he could have pushed her
to a point where she felt
there was no way out.
All that t*rture and abuse
is what led her to her death
because he couldn't let her go.
[woman] Break the silence!
-[group] Break the silence!
-[woman] Break the silence!
[Charlotte] The only person
that's responsible for that day,
regardless of who pulled the trigger,
is John-Paul.
It's his fault she's gone.
[group chanting]
Mica's blood is on your hands!
[crowd jeering]
[woman] Coward!
You know, I… [splutters]
All the abuse that, um…
people are, um…
throwing at me, uh…
I just pray none of you y'all
have to go through anything like this.
[interviewer] As of today, no charges
have been brought against JP.
We've heard that
the FBI opened an investigation.
Have they contacted you?
I don't know how much I should say.
Don't look at me.
Well, it's just… There's…
You know, the…
the investigation is still open.
We didn't know what the FBI
was actually looking into,
but honestly, we just hoped it would bring
some kind of justice for Mica.
[interviewer] Did you speak to the FBI?
I did speak to the FBI.
[interviewer] Did you talk to the FBI?
Mm-hmm.
I shared them, everything I had.
Uh, pictures, messages…
[Regina] I was contacted by the FBI.
They wanted me to provide information
and materials to them
related to Mica and the allegations
that she had made against Mr. Miller.
I literally turned over
everything in my office.
All of my documentation, my notes,
conversations in Mica's journals,
and all the evidence
that she had collected.
And I downloaded all 511
of John-Paul Miller's sermons.
And saved them.
And he always said,
"I don't preach about anything
unless it's happening in my life."
[Laura] The gentleman reached out
to me from the FBI.
He asked me if I still was
in good standing with JP.
And I said,
"Well, I'm not in bad standing."
"I think he would talk to me."
He shared with me about this ruse.
"We need JP to leave his home."
"And we've been monitoring,
but he's not leaving."
"We're gonna ask you to see
if he'll meet you."
I don't think I had a hesitation.
I sent a text to JP.
"Hi. Hope you're doing well."
"As I'm clearing out notes
and had responded back in August
that I'm not required
to keep formal documents
with biblical/discipleship counseling,
I'm thinking you may be
the best person for these
if you still want them."
"Hey, Laura. It's JP.
I would love anything you have."
"Let me know where I can pick them up,
and I'll be there."
He suggested the Starbucks.
[tense music playing]
[police siren wailing]
The FBI served a search warrant today
at the home of Solid Rock pastor
John-Paul Miller.
[reporter] Around 4:30,
we saw as FBI officials
walked out with boxes filled with items,
a computer or small TV screen,
and what looked to be
an external computer server.
[crowd chanting]
You can't hide from the FBI!
The FBI agents had told me,
clearly, JP would know it was me.
When it was over,
I just wanted to know.
I said, "Well, what did he say?"
One of the guys said, [scoffs]
"He said, 'You used Mica's counselor?'"
I hope what comes of the FBI investigation
is that he is finally held accountable.
I think justice for Mica,
at this point, just looks like the truth.
I wanna see John-Paul held accountable
for whatever he did.
Actual legal consequences.
And I want him to…
stop parading as a pastor.
[JP] No, I did not slash the tire.
I think her tire got something
ran over, from what I understand.
I don't think
there was a naked picture of her. Ever.
That was a made-up thing.
[unsettling music rises]
It is unbelievable to know that now,
Mica Miller's dead.
Chris Skinner's dead, and JP Miller
and Suzie Skinner are together.
[Tamra] First reaction was,
finally, they're telling the truth.
But… the other part of me
was completely disappointed.
It validated
the years of lies
that my family and I have received.
It angers you. It does.
And I believe everybody
deserves to move on.
Not like this.
[Charlotte] Solid Rock Church,
the actual building,
I think I heard it was actually for sale.
But the actual members of the church
and John-Paul are meeting
at these little random locations
in Myrtle Beach.
One place was even called The Rat Hole,
which was perfect.
He probably has 15,
And Suzie's leading worship.

[Sierra] When the charges came up
against him
for cyberstalking and harassment,
part of me was like,
"Yes, we got him on something."
And the other half was like,
"Okay, well, is that it?"
[Nate] These charges only reflect
a fraction of what he did to her.
People need to remember
that this isn't just a story.
This is the story about a real person.
[Sierra] That man tortured our sister
in every way possible,
including twisting the Bible
and using it against her.
[Destinee] Justice for Mica would be
for her to be alive right now
and living her life.
-And I'm never gonna see that.

No one should ever be put through
what she went through.
The police weren't able to do
a single thing for Mica.
Even though she kept calling them
for protection,
they couldn't protect her legally.
Because you're married to someone,
that's not harassment in South Carolina.
That's why Mica's Law's so important
to us as a family.
She loved the church.
She loved the people.
[calming music playing]
[Sierra] She believed in loving everyone,
celebrating life.
And helping everybody around you
that you can.
I think Mica would remind everybody that
this life is temporary and fleeting,
and to live every moment to the fullest.
