we find for any ufo are absent.

a strong case for an unknown.

And even more paranormal footage

At mental health care
facilities of the past,

physicians armed only with
the knowledge of the time

attempted to diagnose
and appropriately treat

those who were believed
to have gone mad.

With their ill-informed

and perhaps
unintentional mistreatment

of so many patients, however,

they may have
inadvertently unleashed

a terrifying echo through time,

one that still manifests
through the halls

of some abandoned asylums
even today,

The overbrook insane asylum
was built in 1896

as the essex county new jersey
asylum for the insane.

In the 1940s and '50s,
it was peak capacity.

I mean, like thousands
and thousands of people

were sent to this facility,

and as we know about
mental health in this country,

we always haven't been the best
at diagnosing people's issues

or treating them humanely.

In the end, they were just kind
of throwing everybody in there

for no reason at all.

People had strokes.

They didn't know
what to do with them.

They put them
in this institution.

There were also cases of abuse
and neglect

and even people freezing
to death in their cots

during one winter.

Like 10,000 people have died
at this hospital

because it was open for so long
and because people,

you know, would get sick
in these conditions.

There is a specific tunnel
system

underneath the entire hospital

that takes you from building
to building

because they didn't want
their patients

to see how many people
were dying a day,

so they would gurney them
underground to the morgue.

Overbrook was
abandoned by the 1990s.

When they abandoned it,
they just left everything,

and there were never ever
any medical records kept.

If there were,
they were just tossed

when everything was abandoned.

These places are known
for trauma,

and these places are known for,

you know, really just some
horrific medical studies

that we did on some of our more
mentally ill people,

so I think that makes it
a perfect, perfect place

for paranormal activity
to occur.

That was the thought
process of john edmunds,

a resident of mount olive,

when he and his friend vincent

decided to visit the overbrook
several years ago.

My friend vincent and I,

we enjoy charting the forbidden

and unknown exploration zones

throughout the garden state
of new jersey,

and one of these locations
was the essex county hospital

located in verona,
cedar grove, new jersey.

On one afternoon,
my friend vince and I,

we were traversing
through the main hallway

which connected
the long array of buildings.

I recall he picked up something,

and he threw it
in one direction,

and then his face just changed.

Actually, my whole body
turns with the camera, too,

and I just see, like,
some little, like,

figure in the dark
in the distance,

didn't really know what it was,
and then it just starts moving.

God.

And that was my cue
to just get out of there,

and I just basically
just ran the other way.

God..

These two dudes that were
in there,

they're looking for ghosts,

but what they found was sort of

like a spider-human hybrid
crawling on the ground,

someone, something
just there living

in this former insane asylum.

It has this creepy-crawly,

weird exorcist scene vibe.

I mean, it's either anara
from "the ring"

meets the girl
from "the exorcist,"

and it's, like, running at you
on all fours,

backwards, twisted.

I don't know what it's doing.

Turn around. Turn around.

I found this video particularly

disturbing because I have been
in that hallway, personally.

If I had seen this creature,

whatever it is, it's terrifying.

I can't imagine how much
more frightening it would be

if I were standing there

and saw this thing running down
the hallway toward me.

My friend vincent,
he's a big believer of ghosts,

while myself,
I'm a little reserved.

I'm a very realistic person,
so I really try to process

things to really understand
what they are,

but that day, seeing that,

who knows whatever it was,

it's just unexplainable.

It vaguely looks like a creature
known as the rake,

which is a very slender,

very tall gangly-looking
creature

often described as being white
or a pale skin color.

Nobody is quite sure
whether rake is an animal

or a spirit
or a demon of some kind.

I say that because this doesn't
seem to be human,

although it seems to have
two arms and two legs.

I would like to see any human
move the way this thing did.

It sort of walks, I guess,
like a crab or a spider.

Obviously, our arms are shorter
than our legs,

so if we're down on all fours,
our hips are going to be higher.

This seems very flat
to the ground

and moving quite quickly
and almost in a menacing way.

Turn around. Turn around.

And I never went alone
after that day.

I can tell you that.

I never went exploring alone
after that.

When you're standing

on the ground and you
spot something in the sky

that you cannot explain,
logic dictates

that there is almost always
a reasonable explanation for it,

even if it seems unnatural,

but what if you're not
on the ground at all?

What if you're already in space?

For those who reside at
the international space station,

seeing an unidentified
flying object

seems to be as simple as
looking out the nearest window.

Believe it or not,

going back all the way
to the apollo missions,

astronauts have claimed
to see all sorts of ufos

flying around up there.

A lot of times, nasa tells them
to keep their mouth

shut about it,
but sometimes stories leak out.

People from that era saw things
that they couldn't explain.

So if we trust these people
with some of

the most highly secretive
information in this country,

I think we also have to trust
these folks

when they say they saw
something out of this world.

But when the
international space station's

cameras are running,

your level of trust in
an astronaut's word

is irrelevant.

The evidence is right there
in front of you.

Watch this video from 2017
as the iss cameras

captured an unidentified
mothership-like aircraft

seemingly hovering directly
over the earth's horizon.

This thing, I mean, from
the looks of it, it's massive.

My first thought was that,
clearly,

we're looking at
some sort of ship of some sort,

some glowing object
that's off in the distance.

That is not a speck.
It's not a dot.

It's not a blurry whatever.

It really appears to be a fairly
significantly sized

flying object above
earth's atmosphere.

That, I think,
is such a compelling image

for us nowadays.

We know what we think space
is supposed to look like.

We know what we think space
travel is going to look like,

and it looks a lot like that.

You add the weight of

the international space station
behind it,

and you have a really
compelling piece of evidence.

Adding to the mystery
is the discovery that,

when the footage
is only slightly sped up,

the anomalous object's movement
and eventual disappearance

is all the more astounding.

The poignant thing about
this video is the perspective,

the fact that we're looking
from space at space,

whereas normally we're looking
from the ground on up

and there's many things
to be distracted by.

There's many obvious
explanations

that could rationalize away
what we're seeing,

but, from space,
there's not a lot out there.

There's our planets.

There's the stars beyond,

and when you see a light
or maybe a craft,

there's really nothing else
to distract you.

Prior reporting from
2017 suggests

that nasa believes
all unidentified objects

as seen from the iss
are explainable.

But with the preponderance
of mysterious footage

that comes from the iss,

combined with the reality of

the unknowable
vastness of space,

it's fair to ask,
can we really be so sure?

I imagine there's probably
a lot of basic explanations

for what it could be,

but legends thrive
on that possibility

of another explanation,

so if something is either
all true or all false,

we don't care about it anymore.

We don't tell good stories
about those things.

We tell stories about the things
that are just ambiguous enough

to open the door to possibility.

It's got to be amazing
to look out the window

and basically see earth
from a distance

and then things possibly
flying around, you know,

and not knowing, you know,
what else is out there.

It's an adventure.

An adventure that
will continue on as long

as the mystery remains.

I believe that there are just
an unfathomable amount

of other species out there
living on other planets

and other solar systems.

It's pretty daft of us to think
that only one star that we live

and grow off of exists
when there's proof,

especially when
we take photographs

with the hubble telescope,

we see other stars
and other galaxies

that have the same amount
of possibilities

for giving life like we know.

I think it would be
incredibly sad

if earth was the only planet
to support life.

Out of all the stars out there,
all the galaxies,

there has to be
something else out there.

Whether or not they're visiting
earth, that's another question,

but there definitely
has to be something there.

Now, if they are visiting earth,

this could be perfect
evidence of that.

which was once a church,

hosted the team from
detroit paranormal

paranormal-themed beer,

and they brought along a news
film crew to sh**t the process.

We were making
a paranormal-themed beer,

probably the only one
in detroit,

maybe the only one in the world

called hello from
the other side.

So as we went to the brewery
to meet with the brewer,

we talked to
some of the employees,

and they were telling us some of
the paranormal experiences

they were having,
some employees that,

you know, get nervous at night,
that don't want to go downstairs

and little things
that are happening,

so they kind of believe
that it does have a history

and that it is haunted.

Curiosity piqued, they
set up a spirit box to see

if they could make
some kind of contact

with any entities
that may be nearby.

How many spirits are with us
tonight in this building?

Can you give me a number,
please?

The employees really didn't have
an explanation,

and we did get a lot of response
up in the bar area

where the church actually was,

where the congregation
would sit.

They did pick up
a few potential entities

with the machine.

Tell us how many spirits
are here with us right now.

But the most
spectacular discovery

came a few days later.

It was when I was going through
to edit pieces of the story

together is when I saw, like,

something I had never seen
before on video.

Watch the right side
of the screen closely.

Watch again in slow motion
as an apparition seemed

to fly into alex's frame

before disappearing
into thin air.

When alex sent me the video,
I was pretty shocked

because I had never seen
anything like that before,

and alex has been
doing this for over,

I think, 16 years
as a cinematographer,

and he's never seen
nothing like that,

and he went over it and over it

and tried to debunk
everything he possibly could.

He's not a paranormal guy
at all,

so this was all new to him.

Whatever it was, was above us,

and then it looks
like it sprout wings,

and I had never seen
anything like that before.

It seems to be a light color,
but I couldn't say

whether it's a living creature
or a spiritual thing.

At first I'm thinking,

"this could have been a bird,

but why does it just dissipate
in the middle of the shot?"

it didn't fly up to a banner.

It flew halfway across your shot

and then just
kind of disappeared.

It seems to fade away
almost right before your eyes,

so that eliminates bird.

That eliminates bat.

That eliminates some animal
being in the brewery.

I saved the video,
and I sent out

to a couple psychics that I know
around the united states

just to get
different opinions on it.

One of the psychics said it was,
like, a protector

of that church, like, something
that's always been there,

a good presence, you know,
looking over the church.

In churches,

there's a lot of
really positive energy

because, you know, there's a lot
of prayer, ritual, whatever.

All of that just kind of raises
the positive vibes

inside of a building like that,

so whether that was
an angel or not,

I think that it might be
a protective spirit.

And if you're thinking that

a brewery is the last place

one might encounter an angelic
presence, think again.

Booze and the church
have a long relationship,

so it's not unusual
to see angelic things

like this inside of a church,

especially now
that it's a brewery.

I mean, if you think all the way
back to the middle ages,

the trappist monks of belgium,
France, germany,

they were the official
brewmasters of the church.

They've been drinking beer
instead of water

for a long, long time.

Here, you have a brewhouse
inside of a church,

so I think that, whether
there is a residual angel

watching over the building,
that could be possible,

but I also think that

the accumulated energy
of the people

that used to worship
there also sticks around,

so when you have now
a lively environment,

people are drinking beer,

it's not an unholy communion
to get together there

and drink libations
and things of that sort.

I think that it actually
creates, like, a perfect storm

for a haunt, you know,

and if it's for angels,
so be it.

Could it be a ghost?
Could it be an angel?

You know, we're in the church
with all that history,

and, yeah, I mean,

it was just trying to figure out
what it was,

and I couldn't find
an explanation

of what it could be.

I still can't explain it.

I went over it and over it,
and I sent it out

to other people
to get their opinions about it.

No one can explain it,
so I feel it's legitimate

paranormal experience

When we first moved
into this house,

there were some strange things
going on in the house,

sounds in the house, voices,

but I kind of had logical
explanations on those things.

There's people that told my son,

who lived here at the time,
that,

"hey, you know what? You need
to be careful in that house.

There's a ghost in it,
and it's haunted."

my son told me about it.

I laughed at him,
but then he did see

a shadow apparition
appear in his room.

I said, "joshua, I don't believe
in ghosts. I'm sorry."

two years went by.

There was a night
where I was in bed, sleeping,

and I heard a female voice say,
"help me."

Help me.

And my back was turned
to the closet in the bedroom,

and I spun around and looked.

There's nobody there.

My wife was in bed next to me.

I laid back down,
and then I felt a tap on my hip,

and the female voice again said,
"help me, kent."

nobody was there,

and it felt like there was
a presence inside the room.

So that's when I started
taking a closer look

into the strange activities
in this house.

In 2018, kent finally
took it upon himself

to start documenting
the unusual activity

he was experiencing in his home.

I was downstairs,
sitting in the living room,

and I did hear some sounds
coming up from my bedroom.

I just heard some talking.

Hello?

I can hear faint talking.

I go up to investigate it
while the camera is going.

Is somebody up here?

The hell is that noise?

And when I opened up the door
and came around the corner...

It was so unexpected

that it just kind of
shocked me in the moment.

Out of all the videos
I've seen so far,

The shadow was in such
close proximity to him.

It almost looked like it was
about to tap him on the shoulder

if he hadn't spun around
at that instant.

That is a terrifying
little sequence.

You can tell
he's terrified, too.

When your haunts
start to happen,

it starts off kind of light,
you know,

with knocking and whispering
sounds, things of that sort.

And if you're not responding,
then maybe it's going to try

to manifest in a visual way
to get your attention.

I think this is definitely
a shadow figure

that's haunting him.

He never really sought out
the paranormal.

He never believed in any
of these things, and then,

now, all of the sudden,
this is happening?

There is a chance that he
manifested this thing over time,

and now it's starting
to show itself.

I think it has mostly to do with
the intention of the apparition.

Apparitions choose to be seen.

They choose us to experience
them or perceive them, go,

"you know what? Here's a guy
that we can talk to.

Here's a guy that will hear us."

somebody saying, "help me
because I don't understand

what's happening,
and you're the only one

that seems to be able
to hear me."

because spirits don't have
a physical body

that we're aware of,
one might think,

"well, how can they feel pain
if they don't have a body?"

but so many of them say,
"help me. I need help."

Help me.

That torment could be
of a spiritual nature.

Their hell could be entirely
generated by themselves,

and the help they need,
sometimes,

can come only from themselves.

I've captured this
apparition many times.

In fact, we nicknamed him
shadow dude.

And I never get the impression
that he's evil.

It's just scary.

I mean, when you come around
a corner,

and he's just standing there
looking at you,

it's pretty scary.

But why is it in
the house in the first place?

The history of
this house, the front section

was actually
an old school building,

from what we gathered,
back in the early 1800s.

Edmund lamb purchased
the building

from the school district.

Now, back in those days,

they would hold funerals
at people's homes.

When laws changed,
edmund had to set this up

as a funeral home
for health reasons.

This was the original
funeral home in carmel, maine.

In my opinion, based on
the paranormal activity

I've come across, this house
has kind of been a safehaven

for some of these ghosts.

If something grabbed ahold of me

and slammed me up
against the wall

or threw me down the steps,
it's all over with.

We're gone.

But it takes a lot of
that fear away that,

whatever this is,
it does not attack.

This is a phenomenon that's
very amazing and very real,

but it's not doing anything
to physically harm us.

If I'm him,
I'm sleeping on the couch.

I am not going back into
that bedroom anytime soon.

If I am in the bedroom,
I'm keeping all the lights on,

no shadows around.

I don't ever turn this
fricking light out.

Leave this light on because
of certain reasons like this.

We sleep with the tv
on going all night.

We sleep with the fan
going on all night.

We have to create some type
of noise

because the sounds in the house
and the voices wake us up.

And all this activity
has inspired

kent to take a rather
unusual step.

I want to buy it to preserve
the history of this house.

I don't necessarily
want to buy it

to continue to live in it,

but to preserve it
as a historical site,

try to bring it back to how
it looked back in those days

when edmund lamb
used it as a funeral home.

Probably set it up
more like a museum.

lights in the sky baffle

an alaskan man.

If it's true that
humans always fear

what they don't understand,
then ufos, by definition,

are almost always
innately unsettling.

After all, the word unidentified
is right there in its title.

So it's logical that a vague
sense of unease naturally arises

when someone is confronted
with one of these sightings

for the very first time,

which is what makes
this next ufo clip

particularly compelling

because, while it's one thing
to unsettle a newcomer,

it's quite another to do it

to the world's
foremost ufo experts.

In may of 2016,
a man in fairbanks, alaska,

spotted an unusual blinking
light in the distant sky.

Oh, what is that?

Less than a minute later,

the light began doing more
than just blink.

Ooh. Ooh. There it is.

And soon after,

the light split apart yet again.

Whoa. Huh.

This blinking light births
another light

and then births other lights,

and it just seems to be going on
and on and on and on.

It stays stationary in the sky.

It's not moving back and forth.

Just to give some backstory on,
like,

what fairbanks is like in may,
it's pretty much 24-hour light,

so what you're seeing right now
is probably the dead of night,

which still kind of
looks like sunset.

So what you're seeing is
a light anomaly

that's probably very bright

because it's not totally night

in fairbanks, alaska, in may.

Not sure
what to make of the ufo,

the man who filmed it passed

the footage
along to an organization

that he believed
might be able to help...

Mufon, the mutual ufo network.

Mufon is the world's oldest ufo
investigative body.

It's been around since 1969.

We do scientific investigation
of the ufo

and related phenomenon.

Oh, what is that?

This particular light
is very anomalous

because of the way it moves.

In two places, it actually
seems to break apart,

and that's something we do
not frequently see

in a stationary ufo.

To rule out all other
possibilities,

douglas went through
a checklist of usual

explanations for most
ufo sightings.

For instance,
could it be a meteor?

Normally, if this thing had been
moving rapidly,

that would present
quite a bit like a meteor.

In this case, because it is
almost motionless in the sky,

it doesn't really fall under
any of the usual suspects.

Next, what about
chinese lanterns,

which have often been
mistaken for ufos?

Normally, we think chinese
lanterns in a case like this,

but the way this one
does not seem to be carried

anywhere on the wind,

and it's not constantly
ascending like

we would normally expect
a chinese lantern.

Could it be
an aircraft or a drone?

It's certainly not an aircraft

because it is almost motionless.

There are no navigation lights,

and there's some things
that point very clearly to it

not being a drone,
one of which is the size

and brightness of the light
for the apparent distance.

This is clearly well
beyond the trees.

It's clearly well beyond
the distance of the buildings,

and yet it is
a very intensely bright light.

Or was it possible that this ufo

was simply a flare?

If this object had descended
and shimmered,

then that would be
a good indication

that it would have
probably been a military flare.

For four minutes, this ufo stays
almost stationary,

so it's not a flare.

So we have gone down the lists.

We've taken a look at aircrafts,
aircraft flight paths.

We've taken a look
at celestial objects

that could have been visible at
that time, from that location.

All of the prosaic explanations
that we frequently find

for any given ufo report

are absent
with the fairbanks ufo.

It really makes it a strong case
for an unknown.

And not just unknown,

but a reminder of
another mysterious

incident from alaska's history.

There was a famous ufo sighting
in 1986

when this japanese jetliner
came over alaska,

and the pilots claimed
that there was

these two square-looking ufos

that were straddling the plane.

Not only did they see it,
but it was actually picked up

on radar back at headquarters.

And the guy said,
"these things were the size

of aircraft carriers."

this is very famous.

That sighting
and the one in fairbanks

are just more bricks in the wall
of evidence not just from alaska

but from around the world.

So we're in a great time
right now

when it comes to
ufo investigations.

The us government is getting
closer and closer

to disclosure
on a regular basis.

Most of us hope that,
eventually,

we could discover what the ufos
actually represent,

whether they truly are just

an accumulation
of very unusual phenomenon

that we haven't been able
to discover,

whether it does turn out
to be actually

just a lot of very
high-tech military equipment,

or whether it turns out
to be actually visitors

from another world.

the leeds library in leeds,
England,

may fit the bill as
the most haunted of the bunch.

Its notorious reputation
compelled sean reynolds

to visit the library
in July of 2017,

an experience which
he'll remember forever.

What the hell?

The leeds library was
first founded in 1768

but didn't open its doors
until the early 1800s.

This is one of the oldest

standing brick-and-mortar
libraries in all of England.

Since at least 1844,

people have
reported seeing apparitions

and having paranormal
experiences there.

A lot of the haunts there are
assumed to be residual haunts,

mostly from librarians that have
worked there their whole lives.

They're still working there.

They're still organizing
these books.

They're still protecting
the information

that this library has.

But one curious
liverpudlian named sean reynolds

wanted to find out
if those haunts were coming

from the spirit
of one particular librarian.

My name is sean reynolds,

and I filmed the video
at leeds library.

There was a head librarian
there called vincent sternberg,

and it's believed
that it's his ghost

that's haunting the building.

He, you know, had a very
tragic accident with gunpowder

and has some
very horrific injuries.

He died.

Now, the staff that work inside
of the library,

they believe
they've seen this guy,

and he's been seen
over multiple years.

Books were flying off
the shelves,

banging noises were being heard,

and people kept thinking
they saw the figure

of some strange entity

walking and lurking around
the building.

...Of books.

You just don't know,
from one turn to the next,

what you're gonna hear
or what you're gonna feel.

As I was walking around, it felt
like somebody was following me,

and everywhere I was going,
the noises were following me.

I heard a voice then, okay,
a lady's voice.

When you feel like somebody
is looking at you,

when you start feeling the hair
on the back of your neck...

I heard a voice then, okay,
a lady's voice.

...That's not from
a residual haunt.

That's from an energy
that can feel you back.

And when sean entered
a specific room of the library,

things truly took a turn
for the terrifying.

I was following the noises
into different rooms,

and that's when I came
upon a loud banging noise.

Was that you tapping on
one of the bookshelves?

Hello?

I opened the door.

When I went inside,
the noises were louder,

and the banging was louder.

What the hell?

And then, suddenly...

I saw it. I'm sure I saw it.

Hello. No.

No way.

The library ladder
apparently moved by itself,

thoroughly freaking sean out.

Whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
whoa, whoa. What the hell?

What's interesting about this

is that the top of the ladder
seems to be doing the moving.

I looked at this
from a skeptic's view,

and I figured,
"okay. There could be someone

just below the frame,
pushing it."

but if that were so,
the bottom of the ladder

would be the one
doing the leading.

In this case, the top of
the ladder moved first,

showing that the force
enacted upon the ladder

came from the top.

I mean, that's a real
interesting capture.

You know, it's a big room.
It's an old library.

There's a lot of stories.

Who knows, when you're setting

man comes face to face

with a diminutive
yet dauntless woodland creature.

From the sparse siberian tundra

to the dense forests
of the ural mountains,

russia is home to
a wide variety of wildlife.

But according to folklore,

those who venture out
into the wilderness

may encounter
more than just elk.

Indeed, several enormous
cryptids are said

to be found in the region.

In addition to the widely
known yeti,

there have been reports
of giant lake monsters

and massive bears left over
from prehistoric times.

Some legendary russian cryptids,
however,

come in smaller packages,
a lot smaller.

In the orenburg region
of southwest russia,

a local man was out on
horseback, feeding his cows,

when he heard unusual screaming
coming from the forest.

Curious as to who or
what could be making the sound,

sergey rode into the forest
to check it out.

What he saw defied explanation.

According to local legend,

there is an old woman
without a tongue who has lived

in the woods for decades,

but sergey couldn't determine
whether in fact the creature

was human, animal,
or something else entirely.

This is the freakiest
little critter I've ever seen.

It seems to have
a real attitude, too.

The fact that this creature
seems to be holding

a tool or a weapon

or whatever it is would indicate
that it has opposable thumbs.

It has human-like hands.

No cryptids I can think
of actually use tools,

which perhaps means that this,
whatever this thing is,

is of a higher intelligence
than other cryptids, perhaps.

Given the region's
relatively spotty safety record

with radioactive materials,

some speculate
that this creature

could be a result of a mutation.

When chernobyl melted down,
it did cause,

like, all sorts of anomalous,

like, abnormal mutations
in animals and in humans.

Now they're thinking that
they have these monsters

that have been created
by the radioactive meltdown.

I don't have to tell you
what kind of crazy things

come out of that country.

We do know of creatures
like the almasti

or the yeti
that actually live there,

so this could be, perhaps,
a deformed yeti.

You have bigfoot.
You have dogman.

You have lizardman.

You have all these creatures,
mole people,

all these things
that essentially are animals

plus human fused together
or evolved in a certain way.

Despite this
creature's threatening gestures,

the seemingly unflappable
sergey kept filming.

That is, until
the creature charged.

The creature vanished
before sergey

was able to make
any sense of the encounter.
