I had a lot of time
to preserve this meat,
but I didn't do it.
They are really not doing that well.
Now I will have to smoke everything.
No more spoiling.
Oh, we got a bunny. Yeah, a bunny.
Missing the moose was
a big disappointment,
but I have to dig deep...
Holy *****, we got another bunny.
And we gotta work harder now.
Killin' it.
Oh, there's some more just here.
Whoa, there's a whole bunch of them.
This bridge that I've built...
Holy crap, there's heaps.
Some sort of, like, horizontal fish web.
I'm just gonna keep working this.
Wow.
The land provides.
Oh...
my ***** God!
Whoo!
I got a ***** fish, finally!
I have an opportunity
to live a life beyond my wildest dreams.
I have to win.
Oh, it's ***** awesome!
Guys, if you think
that I eat a lot,
you should look at this squirrel.
Just picking cone, one after another,
and just eating them.
See this?
So don't tell me that I'm eating a lot.
Look what will happen now.
You want to guess?
And what now?
More eating.
I was thinking about nickname.
It could be Coney.
Eating cones, that's life.
This guy just doesn't give a *****.
So yeah.
Maybe it could be Fat Coney.
OK.
It is one of the coldest days so far.
River is starting to freeze.
Wow, this is happening so quick.
It's finally cold enough
that I think my worries
about food spoiling are over.
Holy crap, this section.
It's actually almost
completely frozen already.
Preserving meat was
the main focus all the time,
but now, my shelter
is still far from finished.
Yeah, here's clay,
but under water, which is not good.
I have to, most importantly,
build a chimney in my shelter,
because at the moment,
I don't have any fireplace.
But I'm a bit late.
Snow has covered the land,
and river is freezing now,
and it's actually really
difficult to find good clay.
Slightly sandy, but good enough.
I'm using clay.
It's a bit more sandy,
which, in my opinion,
is not the best for construction.
I will add grass.
Make it really thick.
And if I get right consistency,
it's gonna be nice and easy.
I've been working with clay quite a lot,
but mostly for pottery.
I've never done something like this.
I decide to put a huge tree trunk
and put clay over it
so the fireplace has some kind of shape.
I'm going to burn this piece of wood
so it's gonna become hollow.
Let it slowly dry.
I will build from this base
a very tall chimney.
So hopefully not have
any smoke in my shelter.
Chimney, chimney, chimney.
I hope this system works.
I made this frame for a chimney
using willow.
We have the right size.
OK.
With temperatures below zero,
first phase of survival is finished.
Now I'm entering the second phase,
which is more calmed down.
There is not such time
pressure to finish stuff now.
I think this chimney
is starting to work.
I have to start preserving
a bit more of my energy
and focus a bit more
on fishing and snaring
and other projects.
It's... now it's different
type of survival.
You know, it will
work like this already.
Chimney built.
Man, that's amazing.
I should be careful
not to dry it too fast
and get cracks.
Finally, a proper fireplace.
Awesome.
No matter how cold it
is outside, I will be fine.
Oh, It's such a beautiful
snowy day today.
I just want to give
you a little guided tour
of the shelter.
From this angle, it's
very much a teepee.
But if we come around,
we have this section
here, which is a lean-to.
And this is the panel that I've made.
It can be kicked out from
the inside quite easily,
so that's my fire escape.
And then we come around the back.
I've just covered it with everything.
It's got a tarp on it as well
to try and hold the snow
to create extra insulation.
It seems to be working.
So it's two shelters joined
together to make one,
a teepee-lean-to combination.
Teepee-to.
I think it looks pretty cool.
Let's go have a look on the inside.
Definitely heading
into proper winter now.
Got the fire going nicely.
This shelter is a harbour
from what's going on outside.
The temperature in here
is way warmer than outside.
I can batten down the hatches.
I can just be dry,
warm, and comfortable.
It'll see me for
however long this takes.
This is the raised bed.
Home from home.
I don't think I could
have done a better job
of creating what I'd
envisaged in my head.
Everyone's gonna want a teepee-to.
Oh, yeah.
OK. Right, let's do stuff.
Get some more snow in the pot.
Day to day,
just concentrating now on my routines.
Getting up, melting more snow,
making sure I've always
got water on standby.
Making my spruce needle tea.
Once I've got all the water sorted,
get some more firewood in.
If you're lucky, eat something.
Checking snares.
Get into a routine.
You just do the same stuff every day.
It's freaking boring,
but very essential.
This is actual survival.
It's a very simple way of life,
in a very complex way.
There's nothing in there.
To repeat Lofty Wiseman's wise words,
"If you're doing survival properly,
it should look boring."
I wouldn't argue with Lofty.
Wrote the "SAS Survival Handbook."
Not a guy to mess with.
And he's a good mate.
Didn't get anything in the snares today.
If I can just keep doing what I'm doing,
hopefully get food,
that's that missing link
from the whole thing.
I can do everything else.
It's that food security.
All I can do is just keep
trying to provide food.
I want to explore the piece of land.
It's in the southerly direction.
Bit of a mission to get there.
And hopefully, it will be a
better place for big game.
Time to go hunting.
I'm gonna be keeping things routine.
However, any opportunity
to get big game,
I am absolutely on it.
I would be untouchable.
Just need a chance to find some.
Want to be a big-game guy.
Everybody loves the big-game guys.
I want to be that guy.
Oh, here it is.
Took some getting to.
Hello.
Wow. Fresh tracks.
That's a good sign.
Ooh, that would be exciting.
That's literally all my
dreams coming true.
A lot of people don't get this far.
Just makes me wonder
how many badasses are still out here.
This is the real deal.
This is definitely a
worthwhile place to explore.
I think it'll be a waiting game now
just to see who lasts out.
Things are really,
really getting cold now.
I'm gonna head back.
I'm intrigued by these tracks I found.
I'll come back out here tomorrow.
I came here to do a job,
and I'm gonna see it through.
I want to be the last guy in this woods.
Wow.
I'll push through here.
I just turned myself around again.
How is that even possible?
It's just so bloody windy.
Ah, *****.
Every path I follow takes me in a loop.
This is shocking.
Wow.
What the *****?
Bloody hell.
Totally tangled up.
I'm in a big, big loop.
All right, let's try
and get out of this.
A new trail, at least.
Oh, my God.
Wow.
That was an absolute nightmare.
So I'm now back alongside the river,
so I know where I am.
I just kept going round in circles.
And I've lost my bear spray.
I mean, I've been lost before, but...
I've never gone round and
round in circles in a small area.
You could easily get lost
and no one would ever see you again.
I should start heading back.
I hope I don't see a bear.
How I did that, I don't know.
It's just... the brush is so dense.
There's no sun.
There's really nothing to
gauge your bearings from.
Wow.
Just following the same loop.
Made no sense at all.
It's getting tougher.
The weather's getting tougher.
It's a massive, massive challenge
to keep myself mentally
and physically healthy.
What keeps me focused now
is that financial reward.
That's what it's become,
I'm being honest.
I've got such big plans.
I've been working in
the field of mental health
and ecotherapy probably
using bush craft, using survival skills
as a tool to well being.
Things like depression and
anxiety are markedly improved
by spending time outside.
If I win, I have the money
to do all of the things
that I keep wanting to do.
I'm gonna create this
outdoor bush craft studio
where we can run livestreamed workshops
for mental health and well being.
I just want to be able to grow it
and just give other
people the opportunity
to gain the benefits of
nature that I've had in my life.
In reality, making it work
without the funding is really difficult.
I haven't got the
option of just tapping out
if things are getting
a bit uncomfortable.
I've got to stick with this.
Today, I want to be...
a champion.
And I want to feel strong.
I want to feel productive.
The fish swim towards me.
The hare come close.
I am satiated. Full.
So I have this really
weird terrain feature
that's on my parcel.
And...
It's...
some sort of draw, really.
Where water was coming
through here at some point.
I'm covering the top of it.
Almost turning this into
a rock house kitchen.
Rock house kitchen.
Whoo. Hmm.
Anyway, it's actually gonna turn into
a little oven-slash-smoker,
so I'm just covering the top now.
And then eventually,
I'll make a little door.
I actually haven't had
to cache my food yet.
I've just been eating it.
However, we are starting
to have to think about
preserving our food,
rationing our food
compared to just eating it.
♪ Let's build something weird
I've been blessed with quite a few hare
and a fish in the past week.
So I want to build a smoker.
The game out here,
it's just getting started.
There is ice starting to
form on the top of the river,
which is a pretty serious reminder
that winter is coming really fast.
This is the World Championship.
The participants are
some of the best of the best,
so I have to be ready for the long haul.
OK.
This is pretty much what
our outdoor kitchen looks like.
So it's built into
the ground, all right?
OK, so you build a fire
at the bottom, all right?
And through this draw
in the ground, right,
the smoke will rise.
I'm actually quite proud of it.
I think it's pretty darn cool.
So we're just gonna kind
of cover it up with some logs
and, you know,
wait for a nice day of abundance to...
to use it.
So I'm gonna go check the gillnet
and the trap line real fast.
I got another fish.
Holy *****.
I think it's a burbot.
Oh, God.
Whoa. OK.
Oh, my God.
Whoo!
Oh, buddy.
Oh, you're a big fish.
Well, what a treat.
Ooh. Gosh, they're slimy.
Holy *****.
Holy *****.
Look at that.
Got a two-in-one special.
Uh, no, we don't.
Three, four.
Holy *****.
Seven.
Eight.
Oh, my God, were we just blessed.
Look at all that.
Eight that look like baby pike or...
I got some bait fish here.
This is crazy.
I mean, that's a meal.
First fire in the camp kitchen.
Oh, feels good.
That's a good amount
of meat right there.
Holy moly, just in the tail.
OK.
I'm gonna put that up there.
Eight fish.
I can't believe it.
Eight has always been a number
that I associate with my mom.
My mom was born on January 8th
and passed away on September 8th.
My mom was my best friend,
and I know that I was hers.
She always picked up the phone.
She was always there.
Hello, universe.
Hi, Mom.
My mother passed away
from kidney disease in 2020.
Dear God, that's a lot of meat.
I know that my mom is with me.
And I know that she's
cheering for me, wherever she is.
Cheers.
It may or may not be the mantras
and the affirmations,
but I am succeeding out here.
It's a pretty thick fish.
I feel abundant.
I feel alive.
I feel warm.
I have food.
I'm thriving.
We're gonna take one
of these little baby pike...
whatever the heck they are.
Bottoms up, little dude.
Knowing that I can
finally take a breath,
there's a wink to success.
This was a pike that was
found in the stomach of a burbot.
I think it's a pike.
Not bad.
Well, an exciting day.
Not only are we using our kitchen,
but we're gonna have to
use our food cache today too.
Wow.
Notice anything different about me?
Yep, it's definitely winter.
And, uh, the full-on
winter parka is now...
On.
So, uh, if it stays like this,
you're gonna see a
lot more of me in red.
And I think red against
snow looks pretty good.
Anyway, I've melted snow.
I've got a full 2-quart pot of water.
Progress is being made.
Things are happening.
Next job, I want to go
and check the snares,
see if there's anything in those.
I really do not want
to go to bed hungry.
The coracle just sitting there.
Most likely never get used again,
which is a very sad state
of affairs, in my opinion.
I just built it way too late.
Things are changing
quite rapidly here now.
Everything is gonna
start freezing, the river.
Lake's already there.
This is real winter now.
Time to get covered up.
Whoever is the most
resilient out here will win,
and it's as simple as that.
Survival is 90% a mind game.
Skills give you an absolute advantage,
but most of survival
comes down to your ability
to keep yourself calm,
focus on what you need
to do, and avoid panic.
The mental challenge out
here is just off the scale.
Need some sort of food today, anything.
Anything at all.
Winning 500,000 U.S. dollars
would change absolutely everything.
Working in the field of mental health
and well being through
nature, the number of people
I've seen going from a
very, very low place...
they hadn't left their houses in years,
and we've managed to get
them out, get them into the woods.
Nothing in that one.
Outside and away from
all the negative things
that affect us in the modern world.
Getting off our phones
and using our hands,
using our senses is just so positive.
It's definitely something that
there's a need for in Wales,
and probably in a
lot of other places too.
Nothing in there.
I get so down when I know
that my food intake isn't sufficient,
because I just know
that if I can win this,
I can change not just my
life and my family's lives,
but a hell of a lot of
other people's lives.
All of them hinge on me winning this.
Oh, my God. Oh, wow.
I've got a hare.
Yes!
Thank you, thank you.
I'm so unbelievably grateful for this.
You would not believe
the relief I'm feeling
at the moment.
Let's get this guy out of the snare.
I've got food.
I've got two days' worth of food.
My God.
Wow.
I don't want to be weird about this,
but I am incredibly happy.
I'm starting to think my
fortunes may be on the turn.
Pretty amazing.
Oh, my goodness.
Another varying hare.
Thank you.
Oh, amazing.
Let's get you out of there.
I've got two hares.
This is seriously keeping me out here,
putting me in a really good position.
I feel like I've got myself back now.
I'm excited about the future back home.
And what I'm doing with nature therapy,
it's gonna be an absolute dream.
Let's just keep working at it.
I think I've got a real
chance of winning this.
Eight more dinner strings ready,
and I'm gonna go do another eight.
Also known as a snare.
Some bunnies are in
for a world of trouble.
I definitely don't like it.
I don't enjoy k*lling these
bunnies, but I have to do it.
And it's no different
than being at home.
Like that burger you
eat? Something died.
The pizza you eat? Something died.
Steak you had? Something died.
People have such a disconnect from...
where their meat comes from.
My meat lives a happy life in the wild.
We're gonna check our bunny snares.
Move some, set some, redo some.
The bunnies got a
target on their back now.
Just hit the beach.
Heading for the trap line.
Looks like the water
has come down a little bit.
Wait probably a bit more for
it to go down and harden up.
I'm producing snares.
That's the plan for now.
Waiting for the
freeze so I can ice fish.
I need to get fat in me, so I need fish.
That's my only other source.
The bow's put away.
I'm not using it, not
even looking at it.
Haven't pretty well touched
it since I missed the moose.
Nothing's changed mentally, physically.
I feel good. I'm having reasonable fun.
I'm in this for the long haul.
Coming up on our first one.
Damn dance party in here.
But we got the lynx too.
There's bunnies everywhere.
That's where I go out.
Yeah, buddy, we got one.
Holy... I'm not gonna lie.
I was getting a little worried.
And the lynx didn't
get him, so that's good.
Ah, thank you, bunny.
You're gonna take this down.
We're gonna keep this
one 'cause it's the long one.
Oh, thank you, Sir Bunny.
I was like, these bunnies are onto me.
We're gonna move this snare now.
Feel good now.
I got a couple bunnies to bank.
Feel we'll get a couple tomorrow.
I think we're sitting pretty good.
We'll put two in here.
We'll put them over there.
We've made some grave mistakes here,
but we're bounced back, I think.
Can't bring the moose back.
I can't fish right now.
Here's a good natural choke point.
But the way the bunnies are going,
I think we're gonna do
good on the food things.
I'm just gonna keep eating the buggers.
That's all I can do.
Just got to one of the
sets we moved yesterday.
And we got another bunny.
Oh, thank you.
We might be on to a good day here.
Just rolling up to a set
here, and we are successful.
One dead bunny.
It's a two-bunny day.
Caught a bunny.
Holy...
This is gonna be a wild day.
Holy *****, we got
another rabbit in that spot.
Got us a bunny.
We got another one.
New record. Five bunnies.
One bunny in the tummy.
Family and friends that are vegan...
they ain't gonna be too happy with me.
Oh, got another one.
Here's another bunny.
Three bunnies.
Four bunnies.
Five bunnies.
What's going on here?
Tonight wasn't Easter, was it?
I suggest not watching this.
This is a delicious bunny.
Oh, got one. A hefty fella too.
Sorry, little guy.
Wow.
He's a fat b*stard.
Wow. Thank you, sir.
Up to 45 bunny total for bunny day.
Oh, got another one.
And he got ***** eaten.
Sorry, bunny.
It's a little guy.
One bunny going in the bank.
Oh, yeah, we got one.
There's one right there.
Sorry, little guy.
Oh, that was delicious.
I'll give that bunny a B grade
on the Aaron Barnard Bunny Scale.
Jesus, mercy, this park produces.
Bunny traps, guaranteed a bunny.
Caught one. Bam.
Brings us to 51 bunnies.
Just gonna get a fire
going here, cook a bunny,
and just try to get all my stuff done,
and I'm going inside.
Can't see me losing this game.
I believe I can go another
I think I will eat three today.
Eat 'em if you got 'em.
To be quite honest, I thought it'd be
more mentally challenging than this.
Like if anything, I think I'm
getting stronger mentally.
Big, old bugger.
Now I obviously know
of rabbit starvation.
You could literally
die with a full belly,
but hasn't been that long.
It's only been 25 days
I've been eating rabbits.
And I've had berries in between.
Pretty tender bunny for how big he is.
I don't see myself ever quitting.
I'm in this till the end.
But who knows? Who knows?
And somebody might have a moose.
But having a moose
doesn't guarantee you a win.
Look at William.
Having a strong mind does, though.
Yeah, if there's, like, a
bunny society or, like...
Something similar to that,
I'm definitely donating after this.
I want to make snowshoes
to go out on the ice.
See my two sticks? Links.
And they're lashed at either end.
Now I'm gonna start to spread them.
And put my cross-pieces on them.
So this is a design
that I learned from Kie.
She made different ones on her season.
Lashed, lashed, and lashed,
and I just stretch this one out.
And I'll have to then lash it.
But afterwards, thinking back
and revising and improving,
she came up with this design.
OK, nice and tight.
Tight constrictor.
All right, so I'm getting there.
And I do another crosspiece.
Standing on the shoulders
of giants with what I'm doing,
learning from the best, from
those that have come before me
and continue to walk beside
me and lead me and guide me.
Two snowshoe frames.
Yay!
I will get the boughs for
them and weave them through
and tie them in place.
And then I'll do the
lashings for the foot,
and snowshoes will be done.
Winner!
Winner, winner, winner!
Happy with that, happy with that.
OK.
Let's go check out the
broken bridge and the weir.
My first exposure to Lure of the North
was in seeing Kie on "Alone."
I had no idea that people were out there
doing these amazing expeditions
through the Canadian wilderness.
It just seemed like this
awesome opportunity.
Oh.
Some larger fish down there.
Not in the weir, but
in the water itself.
That big whitefish.
Maybe I could spear
it, but I'm not sure.
Wonder if that pushed
any fish into the weir.
Let's have a look.
Nice. That's a good size.
Like a 30-centimetre
whitefish right there.
That's excellent.
Whoo! That was a great start.
Let's get some more.
So far, the fish weir
has been so good to me.
Oh, there's a whole
bunch of little fish.
A bunch of little fish this morning.
Four smaller ones and...
there's a larger whitefish right there.
Got another meal out of the weir today.
It just keeps working,
keeps giving me fish,
so I'm very, very grateful.
And, yeah, just glad that
that just keeps working.
Another meal.
Got 12 whitefish.
Including this good-sized
one this morning from the weir.
Continues to provide.
And there's some big,
big whitefish there, like...
yeah, I'm talking 50, 60
centimetres, real thick.
So it kind of makes sense
to put the gillnet in that space.
Growing up, I was
always a bit of a loner.
Always just felt like
just the black sheep
and the odd one out.
So let's just see how it's gonna sit.
And I just couldn't find my people,
my tribe, my community.
Oh, yeah.
That's more like it.
You know, I tried
through, like, military
and wildlife rescue,
emergency state rescue,
volunteering, all that sort of stuff.
Just didn't really connect with people
in a significant way.
Bring that out.
Until I started to get into the outdoors
and started to connect with people,
with the wilderness community.
As always, keep an eye out for fish.
Being out in nature was
just an amazing facilitator
for open, genuine
connection with people,
and it really helped
me to be able to open up
how I wanted and realise that, you know,
I'm not alone.
So now you can see, my gillnet
is draped across that section
where the larger whitefish
were coming through.
And there you go.
Gillnet is back in action.
That went together
really, really easily.
Whoop, whoop!
Floss it like it's hot.
Come on, catch me some fish, gillnet.
Catch me some fish.
Oh, that's not good.
That's not good, that's not good,
that's not good, that's not good,
that's not good.
I'm putting my gloves
underneath my sleeping bag
at night so they thaw out.
Instead, I forgot, and
they actually got frozen.
Frozen solid.
Oh, God.
Oh, OK.
I'm gonna have to have a fire.
*****. All right, well, let's do it.
Ooh.
I haven't had the need
to have fire a constant in my shelter.
I've only really been lighting a fire
for when I needed to cook food.
Ow.
Can you even see me right now?
Or is it just like, a crazy, like, club?
Ugh.
Damn.
Oh, ***** me.
There's a little bit of smoke
build-up in my shelter,
but the worst is not the smoke.
It's actually this steam
that's coming off of
everything that's frozen in here,
like my clothes.
So it's the steam that's
in here that's so insane.
I don't really know
***** what to do about it.
Oh, my God.
The shelter has been
holding onto moisture,
probably because my
exhaust from my shelter
is a hole in my roof.
And the steam is coming from my clothes,
the water, the ground.
And as the temperature drops,
the steam is getting worse.
There's just no way I'm
gonna be able to ***** last
with this ***** shelter being like this.
I don't know. I don't
know. Maybe, maybe not.
Keep going back and forth in my head
if I regret making this shelter or not.
I like this shelter. I think it's cool.
I'm glad I built the idea that I had.
The shelter does work.
There's just a couple of
things I didn't account for.
On top of that,
the temperatures are dropping rapidly,
and I am having a really hard time
keeping my fingers and toes warm.
And the temperatures
are only gonna get worse.
I really don't want to
be here anymore, Mom,
but...
I feel like there's a lot more growth
that needs to happen out here.
A lot more healing.
Losing you.
It's just everything.
I know there's a lot
more I gotta do out here.
But Mom, I really want to go.
I really want to leave.
I just want to be warm.
I don't want to be hungry.
I want to be clean.
Oh, I miss my friends.
I have food today.
I have food for the next couple days.
Just gotta focus on every task ahead.
But I know I gotta stay.
Let me check the chimney.
Oh, *****. It is cracking.
If this chimney collapse,
I will really have serious problem.
Chimney, ***** you.
*****.
Desperate times call
for desperate measures.
Oh, I think we can get out kind of far.
Not much ice grows over our water hole.
Got a new plan.
I have plenty of bunnies in the bank.
Sure wish I had more berries, though.
We're getting kind of low on 'em.
But I need fish so I can get some fat
so I can get some energy
so I can continue this battle.
Good couple inches.
I need to get it mostly filled.
Perfect.
Oh, yeah, that's 4 inches for sure.
We'll be setting some
burbot lines today, I think.
Let's see how far I can
get out before I feel unsafe.
We'll go over here.
This is kind of where
I caught the big ones.
Look, all my fish are right in here,
so we'll just check right here.
Now that the river's starting to freeze,
I'm getting really excited
that I can get out there ice fishing.
I believe it'll be a lot easier
to fish with the frozen river.
Hopefully it'll allow me
to get to deeper water
where more fish are.
So hopefully we can get on the ice
and get some lines in the water.
Yeah, I can feel it move.
We'll put a set right here.
So I'm gonna go grab a couple sets,
and I'll put 'em out.
Two for today just to test things out,
and ***** it.
Every time we go out,
we'll have the fire going,
and every time, we'll
be holding this pole.
Just drag the pole with us.
If we go in there, we
can hold it, climb up,
skimmy across, get out of there.
That's awesome. We're on the fishing.
I'll put one right here.
Man, that sucks.
Who knows? I caught them here.
*****.
Sketchy.
*****.
Well, God hates a
coward. I'm going for it.
I feel comfortable going on this ice.
I've done it my whole life.
We used to play on thin ice.
I got my big pole here.
I'm not gonna go farther
than I believe I'm safe.
But I know this isn't
the smartest decision.
It's not the thickest.
It's not as thick as I'd even like.
But desperate times call
for desperate measures.
Just keep going.
Ooh.
Ooh.
OK. Whoo-hoo.
My hands are numb.
That was sketchy.
Sketchy.
I'm just gonna crawl
out there and put this in
and get the eff out of here.
OK.
I got almost 3/4 of
the way across the ice
before it got a little
too sketchy for me,
but it's only, like, 6 feet
deep, which is insane.
That's obviously why I
wasn't catching too many fish.
I can't believe I haven't caught any,
but we'll have to figure that out.
Hopefully as I get able to get
to the other end, it's deeper.
I don't know why I'm stressing.
If I fall in, I'll just stand up.
Like, it's crazy.
Makes me just want to get to over there.
I need the deep.
Mind you, I guess we caught them here.
I caught a 40-inch pike at the start.
I don't know. Maybe
tomorrow, we'll push it.
We'll go farther.
But that's only, like, an...
An inch and a half, maybe, of thickness.
This is not recommended,
ladies and gentlemen, but...
OK, guys.
So yeah, basically yesterday
night, I heard a splash.
I was like, whoa.
I checked gillnet and
yeah, there was a huge pike.
Pulled it out, and...
That's the beauty from yesterday.
OK, it got a bit frozen.
But guys,
look at this size.
Monster.
It's definitely the biggest
pike I ever caught.
I just measured it again.
I am now like, whoa.
And I had, like, three days
when I caught six... six fish.
I know I have moose
and still a lot of fat,
but I really have to rely on fish.
I want to stay long,
because I will run out of fat.
To be honest, I don't know if
this competition will ever end.
This is really a lot
of fish in this area.
So yeah, we have some fish for dinner.
Perfect.
Let me check the
situation with the chimney.
Oh, what do we have here? Our Coney.
Crazy Coney.
He took a cone, and now he's
running away with the cone.
Hey, buddy.
Actually, it's getting late.
OK, see if it's dry now.
I tried to dry it slowly
because I didn't want it to crack.
Oh, *****.
It is cracking.
That's not good.
I was letting it dry very slowly, but...
In these conditions,
it's a bit difficult to make
a chimney from clay.
Goes to freezing and
de-freezing and freezing.
If this chimney would crack or collapse,
I would really have serious problem.
I'm a bit pissed.
I think I have to just
let the fire run now.
Yeah.
Let it burn, let it burn.
Have to be warm and
have freezing shelter tonight.
I'm getting out of here.
I have enough of this stupid chimney.
Time to eat.
I am pissed...
like, really pissed
with this stupid chimney.
***** damn it.
I used clay that was not the best,
but then I said, OK, I can
dry it slowly and nicely.
This is going now forever.
It's like the ***** third day,
it's like a crack and a crack,
crack, crack, crack, crack.
So a lot of cracks.
I know that you usually
don't see me pissed,
but today, I'm really pissed.
Yeah, sorry for that.
And now I decide to
just, you know, ***** it.
I will burn this fire like
hell, let the thing dry,
break as it wants, and then
I will fill these huge cracks
with additional clay.
It will dry. Whatever.
There are so many problems
that I never thought about
with this cold weather.
Chimney, ***** you.
Go count it.
Woot, woot!
Whoop! 5-0.
Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop,
whoop, whoop, whoop,
whoop, whoop, whoop!
Whoo!
Yeah!
In my head, I'm a better dancer
than what I actually really am.
Especially when there's no music
and there's nobody else to dance with.
But...
Whoop, whoop!
Today's agenda, head on
down to check out the weir,
check out the gillnet,
see if there's anything
happening with that, and
then check out the trap line.
Yes!
There is a whitefish
in my gillnet on day 50!
Ah-ha!
Ah, I gotta get it out.
But it's a good size.
It's a good size! Oh!
Day 50!
I was thinking about my family before,
and I miss them.
But there's also, like,
this trust in knowing
that we'll be together again soon.
Oh!
I don't want to get to the point
where I just want this
experience to be over
because I'm longing for
home and family too much.
Let's go.
My home and family will be there.
All right, guys.
Yeah!
Whoo-hoo-hoo!
Yes!
All right, I'm gonna
go check my trap line.
Being here,
this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
But once this is gone, it's gone.
It's not coming back.
Oh, there's snowshoe
hares under there, though.
That's good.
So don't wish
once-in-a-lifetime experiences away,
'cause once they're done, that's it.
They're done.
This time out here is
precious and special.
Ah.
My gosh, I got one.
I got a snowshoe hare!
Oh, yes, yes.
It's still alive.
Holy *****.
Oh, my gosh.
Oh, *****.
Just broke the snare!
Holy *****.
*****.
Oh, my gosh.
I'm in shock.
Where'd it go? It went up this way.
Gonna try and track it, but...
be grateful for what you have.
And I'm grateful for the big whitefish.
And focus on what I
have, not what I missed.
Oh, no way.
I was just coming back here,
and I saw splashing in my gillnet.
And there's two whitefish in there.
Gonna try and get them out
'cause I've already felt the
loss of having something
so close and then going,
so see if I can get 'em out.
Oh, my.
I've been so grateful for the food
that I've already got
these past 50 days.
What the *****?
Like, what is going on?
Look at them!
Let's go!
Ah!
Ah, *****, *****,
*****, *****, *****.
Ah, *****!
That is the worst cramp I've had.
It's definitely something that
seems to be happening more now.
I can't even eat this
because of the ***** steam!
Ahh!
Just came in my *****
eye, and my eye's burning.
Ow.
The first 30 to 40
days, I felt unstoppable,
but now I'm starting to see some cracks.
Let's go home, Aaron.
I think I'm coming
down with something too,
like a stomach bug
or... I don't know, man.
Oh, *****.
