01x07 - Episode 7

Post by bunniefuu »

[poignant music playing]

[Nazlı] I'm not the one who started it.

He called me.

NOT A STRANGER

[poignant music continues]

[gasps]

[sniffles]

[phone buzzes]

[music intensifies]

[Nazlı] He's the one
who appeared out of nowhere

with "I'm still thinking of you."

HOW ARE YOU?

[poignant music continues]

HOW ARE YOU?

[Nazlı] Then, just like that, gone again.

Obviously, something must've happened
that night.

Something made him think of me
and how much he missed me.

He probably couldn't see me
even if he wanted to.

[poignant music continues]

CERENKAYALI - FOLLOW

FOLLOW REQUEST SENT TO CERENKAYALI

CERENKAYALI
ACCEPTED YOUR REQUEST

[Nazlı] I couldn't control myself.

WITH MY BABES

[Nazlı] I needed to see,
so I could understand.

FUNDA_İNAL: I LOVE US! :]

[Nazlı] Why her and not me?

Why could he be with her and not me?

MAVI IN THE POOL
@FUNDA_INAL

[Nazlı] What didn't I have that she did?

CUTIE WITH THE SWIM CAP

POOL DISTRICT
SEE LOCATION

[Nazlı] I needed to see her.

So I went to see her in person. Up close.

Was it fate or coincidence?

Maybe they're the same thing. Who knows?

Hi there. Is there something
I can help you with?

JOIN OUR TEAM!

[Nazlı] But opportunity presented itself.

So I just

went along with it.

Uh, yes, thank you. I'm looking for a job.

[Funda] Oh, look how cute you are
in your little outfit.

[kisses]

Mama loves you so much.

Hi there, little one.

Mrs. Funda? I'm Nazlı.

I'll be replacing Ece. She's sick today.

But don't you worry.
You're in very good hands.

I've learned everything,
and I'm familiar with all of the lessons.

Hi, Mavi. Are you ready to go for a swim?

-[Funda] Uh.
-Hey, little Mavi? Come here, sweetie.

Let's go have some fun.

[Nazlı gasps] Whee!

[Nazlı laughs]

[Nazlı] As soon as I held Mavi,

something changed in my heart.

And since that moment,

I knew that we would never be apart again.

[poignant music continues]

-Morning, Ahmet.
-[Ahmet] Hey, Nazlı!

-Morning.
-[woman] Good morning.

You'll be with Mavi starting tomorrow.

You made a strong impression
on Mrs. Funda.

Seems as though she liked
that you had experience as a baby nurse.

[Nazlı] I told her about myself.

Just a little nudge.

She was the one who wanted me though.

She made that decision.

All I did was play my cards right.

[indistinct phone chatter]

[Nazlı] I'm gonna miss you so much.

Mavi, are you gonna miss me too?

Unfortunately,
this will be our last session.

[Nazlı] When a great poker player
is patient and sees an opportunity,

they always know when to double down.

[dramatic music playing]

I was wondering
if you'd like to be Mavi's nanny?

[Nazlı] So that's what I was.

A patient player,

waiting for the perfect moment
to take it all.

And it paid off.

[İlker] Hi, I'm İlker.
You just started yesterday, right?

[Nazlı] One look at me,
and there was that smile.

I wasn't sure if he knew.

It was them who made it happen.

Could you remind me to pick up milk
and Mavi's yogurt tomorrow?

[Nazlı] They decided I should stay.

Sure.

[Nazlı] That's why all this played out
the way it did.

Are you ready?

[Nazlı] Now, I'm back where I started.

First, my baby.

Now, Emre.

Why is it that no matter how well I play,
I always lose?

[dramatic music intensifies]

[Nazlı] Life just continues on.

Like nothing even happened.

Emre is here one day, then gone,

like he was never there.

My life in ruins,

where only I keep suffering.

Again, I'm the loser,
never to have my happy ending.

[music subsides]

[Nazlı] So I closed myself off.

Whatever time I had left in the house,

I wanted it all to be with Mavi.

To remember her smell,
how her hair felt, to see her smile.

Before I would inevitably lose her
as well.

[ethereal music playing]

[Nazlı's mother] Let me check
if you have a fever.

Mm, you're warm.

-Open up.
-Mm.

-[Nazlı's mother] I said, open your mouth.
-Mm-mm.

[Nazlı's mother] I said put your arms down
and open your mouth!

-[whimpers]
-Nazlı, open your mouth right now! Good.

Did you swallow it? Did you?

Let me see. That's a good girl.

You're sick, my little Nazlı.

And now you're gonna feel much better.

[Nazlı's mother] I love you so much.
That's why I'm doing all this.

Okay? Okay, sweetie?

[intriguing music playing]

[music continues]

SUNNY APPLES

[Nazlı] Psst! Ah!

Oh, look at the book.

[music continues]

[Nazlı] Here you go.

-Just a minute. We'll start soon.
-Mm.

ONE MONTH LATER

[tense mysterious music playing]

[exhales sharply]

[tense mysterious music continues]

[music fades]

[baby crying in distance]

Is that Mavi crying?

I don't hear anything.

Maybe you heard something from outside.

Take a break and eat something.
I made you a sandwich.

I'm not hungry, thanks.

You need to eat something, Funda,
all right?

[poignant music playing]

[sobs]

[Funda sobs] I'm so tired.

The hard part's over, okay?

All right? Most of them
have already been delivered.

Those ones are done. What else is missing?

It's unfinished.
You guys wouldn't understand.

It's missing something for me.

Something is missing.

[İlker] "You guys?"
Am I just anyone to you?

I don't know.

Why do you care?

[uneasy music playing]

Uh, I brought you some tea
for your breakfast.

-Chamomile? Did you make chamomile?
-[Nazlı] Yeah, that's what I made.

[tea pouring]

Um, the family
I had the interview with in İzmit

would like to talk with you, remember?

For a reference, if that's possible.

[uneasy music intensifies]

[echoes] She's talking to you, Funda.

Funda!

-[music fades]
-[Funda] Huh?

What?

The reference you were going to give me?

Yeah, that's right. I'll call soon.

They're ready for me to start on Monday.

If you could call them today
to talk to them, that would be great.

Nazlı, that's enough.

I'll call them later, all right.

I just have a week of work left
to finish all of this. Would you mind?

Please get out. Leave me alone.

Get out.

[uneasy music playing]

You know that
it's already Thursday, honey?

But I came to the studio yesterday.

You've been here three nights.
You've been staying up all night.

-[music intensifies]
-You haven't been in the house.

Haven't showered.

Mavi hasn't even seen you.

-[music subsides]
-f*ck!

f*ck! The exhibit's in three days!

[uneasy music continues]

I'm not ready at all.

I'll take this.

[Funda] What can I do? Nazlı.

Nazlı, please? Can you stay?

[İlker] You stay. I'll take it.

-[Funda] Stay and help me.
-Just stay, please.

Help me.

Sit.

Right there.

[uneasy music continues]

Well, honestly, I'm not doing so good.

Uh, your daughter's not doing well.
She's worrying me.

[Funda's mother] What's going on?
Is everything okay?

Well, that's what I called
to talk to you about.

Um…

A lot of weird things have,
uh, been happening to us.

Nonstop.

[mysterious music playing]

[sighs] Uh, she hasn't been sleeping,

she keeps forgetting stuff,

and she's locked herself in her studio.

She can't stop crying.

It feels like we're drifting apart.

Oh my God. She's wearing herself out.

I told her to be careful.

Sorry, Ayten,
but I have to ask you something.

Of course, dear. Anything.

Your, um, condition, uh, was diagnosed,

um, when you were young, right?

Um, do you remember how young you were?

I was 23.

My postpartum depression was around
when Funda's brother was born.

Why do you ask?

Um, uh, she isn't acting like herself.

Her mind seems elsewhere.

I don't recognize her.

-I wanted you to know because…
-İlker, there's nothing wrong with her.

She's just tired.
And, obviously, under a lot of stress.

I wish you told me this before.
I could have helped her.

I knew she shouldn't have gone back
to work so soon.

[mysterious music continues]

[sighs]

[exhales sharply]

I have never lost track of time
like this ever.

What's so important
about this last painting?

Without it, the exhibit's incomplete.

[sobs] Whatever I do,
it doesn't feel right.

Is it possible you don't wanna finish it?

[mysterious music continues]

What do you mean?

You said you were gonna take a break
from painting after the exhibition, right?

I wonder if this is you
not wanting to quit.

Is it possible to be a painter
and a mother at the same time?

[whimpering sob]

[Funda] Apparently, not.

I failed everything.

The exhibition is close to opening.

[chuckles]

I couldn't even handle
being a good mother.

All this time,
it's been you taking care of Mavi.

[mysterious music continues]

I can stay and help
with finishing whatever's left to do.

I don't want it.

I don't.

[music turns tense]

[Funda] I can't keep trying
to balance it all.

I shouldn't be doing this.
I should be with my daughter.

[Funda sighs]

You are important to me.

All I was trying to say was that
I don't want you to give up on yourself.

So you don't end up
making a mistake, that's all.

You know the types of moms,

the ones who always remind their kids,

"I worked every day of my life for you.
I sacrificed everything for you?"

I don't want you to turn into one of them.

Neither one of you deserve that.

My mom is like that.

After she gave birth to my brother,
she gave up her job.

She just stayed at home with us.

[tense mysterious music continues]

So I promised myself, as a mother,
I would never be like her.

And… just look at what I've become.

Maybe it runs in the family.

[phone ringing]

You take the call. I'll go check on Mavi.

[phone ringing continues]

Can't talk. I'll call you in a bit.

[Funda exhales sharply]

[tense mysterious music continues]

[music intensifies]

[Ayten] Honey, didn't I tell you
to soak up every minute with Mavi?

That you can't get the time back?

What's the worst thing that could happen
if you stopped painting?

A child is a woman's greatest work of art.

I didn't pick you up off the street.
I created you, as you did Mavi.

You chose to become a mother at this age.

What's with this trying
to achieve everything?

"I can do this. I can do that."

I'm very close, Mom.

Just three more days.

[music fades]

[Mavi babbling]

[Nazlı giggles]

-Look at how happy you are, huh?
-[Mavi babbles]

Such a happy little girl.

[Mavi's toy rattles]

Just say it for me.

Mama.

-[tense mysterious music playing]
-[Mavi babbles]

[in Turkish] Yes.

[in English] Mama.

[Mavi babbles]

Mama.

[Mavi] Mama.

[Mavi whining]

[music fades]

[dark tense music playing]

[exhales sharply]

[dark tense music continues]

[cup clatters]

-[İlker] Nazlı?
-[gasps]

-Sorry.
-[music fades]

I wanted to pay you what you're owed.
Plus, a little extra.

And why is that?

So you could get a head start
on your next chapter,

seeing as you're leaving this job,
which was out of the blue.

Is this hush money or something?

So you can shut me up?

I didn't even think about that.

Well, you don't have to pay me
to keep me quiet, okay?

You can sleep easy. I won't say anything.

[dark tense music continues]

No, of course not.
I seriously didn't think of that.

I was just trying to help out
with a little extra money for what's next.

What will a couple of dollars do to help?

Is it gonna magically make Emre come back?

Will it, all of a sudden,
erase what I've been dealing with?

Can money change that for me?

[sighs]

[dark tense music continues]

So what did you talk about?

Excuse me?

[music subsides]

With İlker.

In the kitchen.

Just that he was going to offer me
a recommendation

to that family I mentioned before.

Hmm.

Is that it?

Did you trust your mother?

Well, when she was alive.

No.

What was she like?

Like someone
who shouldn't have had children.

What do you mean?

I think it's easy to believe
that any woman can be a good mother.

Some women aren't born with that instinct.

I guess.

You're saying like me?

No, I'm… I'm talking about my own mother.

Of course not you.

But from as far as I can

remember, I felt her heart
wasn't meant for motherhood.

It's probably what k*lled her.

Was she neglectful?

Not at all.

The opposite.

She doted on you?

Usually, loving mothers
dote on their children too much.

That's true.

She loved me.

But not in the right way.

I think she eventually realized
her heart couldn't handle being a mother,

and it consumed her.

[dark tense music playing]

I shouldn't assume anything,

seeing as I'll never know
what it's like to be one.

All right, please leave now, Nazlı.

Too much to do, and you're distracting me.

[music intensifies]

[dramatic string music playing]

[music intensifies]

[dramatic string music continues]

[music intensifies]

[music subsides]

[music fades]

Good morning.

You slept for 24 hours.

Where is my painting?

I sent it to the gallery like you asked.

You sent me a text
in the middle of the night.

-Did you make sure no one saw it?
-Don't worry.

Did you like it?

[poignant music playing]

Very much.

Does it look like anything?

Yes, it's incredible.

You really mean that?

So… you don't remember what you painted?

[poignant music continues]

Uh, no, that's not it. Uh…

I just wanted to know
what you thought about it.

You had a hard time

doing it,

but it paid off.

Today is

the big day.

I need to see Mavi first.

[poignant music continues]

[Funda sniffles]

Mommy's little angel.

My Mavi bird.

[sniffles]

[breathes shakily]

I promise you, it's all over.

From now on, I'm all yours.

I won't miss a single moment with you.

I love you with all my heart.

[poignant music continues]

Oh! I brought you something to eat.
You're gonna need lots of energy.

You've got a big day ahead of you.

No, thank you. I'm not hungry.

[tense mysterious music playing]

[sighs]

[Mavi crying]

-[door closes]
-[crying continues]

[Funda] Wait! Open the door!

-What? Why?
-I hear Mavi crying.

Funda, she's already outside.

[music intensifies]

[İlker] Come on.

[tense mysterious music continues]

[Funda] I'm gonna go ahead.
You can join me later.

[tense mysterious music continues]

[woman] Funda!

Funda!

[music continues muffled]

[music resumes]

[Ceren] There she is.

[music continues muffled]

[woman muffled] Funda?

Ladies and gentlemen,

I present Pentimento
and its creator, Funda İnal!

[guests clapping]

So, Funda, as we all know,
everything is up to interpretation.

But could you tell us what inspired you
in these works of yours

and about the journey to get here tonight?

[echoes] …about the journey
to get here tonight?

…journey to get here tonight?

[dark eerie music playing]

[Funda breathing heavily]

[laughter echoes]

[distorted eerie sounds]

[muffled voices echoing]

-[woman] Funda?
-[eerie sounds subside]

[chuckles softly]

[uneasy music playing]

[Ceren whispering indistinctly]

Funda?

I'd rather not.

Mm.

[Funda] I don't want to.

Funda?

I don't…

Um…

Well, it just so happens
that her inspiration is here with us.

Nazlı.

Thank you for being here.

Why don't you come up here, hmm?

Please, join us. Please.

[uneasy music continues]

[guests murmuring]

[music fades]

[whispers] Are you okay?

[Funda sighs]

Uh, well, then.

It's, um, brave and daring
to allow your muse

to take center stage at your own exhibit.

You're one of a kind, Funda.

Striving for greatness
in your own unconventional way.

Uh, Nazlı, would you like
to share anything with us tonight?

-Go ahead.
-Uh…

[woman] Mm-hmm.

[uneasy ethereal music playing]

Please.

[Nazlı] Uh…

[woman clears throat]

Good evening, everyone.

Welcome.

At the start of it all,
Funda told me that…

stages of womanhood

would be the theme of her work
for this exhibition.

At one point,

I asked Funda if Pentimento
had some specific meaning behind it.

She said that it meant regret.

As a woman,

you must choose what society expects,
or stay true to yourself,

which means that you are giving up
the other possibilities inside you.

That you are deciding
to follow this other path.

So then,

even in your happiest of moments,

you will always live
with a piece of regret.

Being tested if you made the right choice.

I suppose.

[woman] Presenting Pentimento
by Funda İnal!

[clapping continues]

[dramatic ethereal music playing]

[Ceren] Hi, Mavi. Hello, sweet girl.
Aren't you so cute?

[Funda] What did you and İlker do, Nazlı?

[Funda] What did you do?

Are you okay?

I'm fine. Don't worry.

Funda, your hands are shaking.

Must be the adrenaline.

What do you think?

[Funda] Mm.

You must be kidding me.

It pissed me off.

You really know how
to paint with your heart.

Hi, how are you?

Your model has an interesting face.

You know what's
even more interesting than that?

İlker and Nazlı already knew each other.

They slept together.

What?

Yes, it's my first time being painted.

Of course.

-[Ceren] Seems to be going well.
-That's great.

And how did you figure this out?

I knew from the beginning.

[dramatic ethereal music continues]

[music intensifies]

[music fades]

-[tense music stinger]
-[high-pitched tone]

[indistinct chattering]

[mysterious music playing]

[mysterious music continues]

Impressive, isn't it?

[Nazlı] Mm.

How does it feel being immortalized?

Strange.

By the way, I'm Kemal.

I know who you are.

Is that so?

I know tonight is a celebration and all,

but… Funda told me about your boyfriend.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Mm.

[music intensifies]

Life is strange, isn't it?

I was in the vicinity that day.

So how does it feel?

You're everywhere.

What is it that makes you so special?

Oh, I think
you should ask the artist that.

She's the one who picked me
to be her muse.

[Kemal] Hmm.

That is true.

I guess asking Funda
wouldn't be the full story, would it?

İlker could shed some light.

Seeing as they both chose you.

Albeit for different reasons
and different ways, right?

[woman] Nazlı?

Nazlı.

I have someone I'd like you to meet.

A friend of mine, Sarp.
He's a photographer. Come.

Please, this way.

-[Nazlı] Hello.
-Pleasure to meet you, Nazlı.

[dramatic ethereal music playing]

Your man looks lost.

Please. He's not my man. Not anymore.

Why did you break up?

Oh, İlker, we had to.

[Selin] How do you feel?
Are you still sad?

[Ceren] Are you kidding? Life's too short
to be hung up on some guy.

[Emre] Uh, Funda, it's me, Emre.
I tried calling, but no answer.

We, uh… We need to talk.

[Ceren] On to the next.

[Selin, Ceren laugh]

Gosh. I wish Funda was here.
Wouldn't that be fun?

If she was like right here with us.

[muffled chattering]

Sweetie, are you doing okay?

Huh?

It's like you're
on another planet or something.

[doctor echoes]
It's called terminal lucidity.

[Selin muffled] Come on. Leave her alone.

This is her special night.

-She deserves to have a nice time.
-Back off. I'm just playing around.

İlker, is Funda doing all right?

Uh, yeah, she's a little tired.

Um, probably a good idea
for me to take her home.

She needs a break.

[tense unsettling music playing]

[music intensifies]

[music grows]

[music swells]

[Funda] Emre!

Emre! Emre!

[music subsides]

-I'm sorry.
-It's okay.

[sound becomes muffled]

[normal] I'm sorry.

[Funda echoes] He was surprised that
you didn't go see him on your day off,

so naturally, he decided
to have an affair on that day?

Rather odd.

[melancholy music playing]

Funda, um, are you okay? [echoes]

No, I'm not. [echoes]

Everyone out there is here for you.

Why are you hiding in here?

Just so tired of doubting everything.

It's eating at me from the inside.

[chuckles]

[laughing]

[echoes] I even have my doubts about you.

[Nazlı] Are you okay, Funda?

[echoes] Exhausted.
Nothing feels right. Why am I like this?

You're just tired.

[laughter echoes]

[echoing laughter continues]

[Nazlı] Everything is fine.

Everyone loves it.

You need to take it easy on yourself.

Just breathe.

[Nazlı] Why don't you have some champagne?

[bubbles fizzing]

[Nazlı] Celebrate your hard work.

[glass clinks]

-[bubbles fizzing]
-[laughs]

[fizzing stops]

[dramatic string music playing]

[dramatic string music continues]

[Selin] Hey! Look who's here. It's Mommy.

-There we go.
-Are you okay?

[music turns ominous]

[music intensifies]

Emre!

[music swells]

Emre!

Emre! [echoes]

-[tense dramatic music playing]
-[engine revs]

[eerie music stinger]

-What are you doing here? [echoes]
-Looking for you.

I came here to help you.

[Funda] Why? What for?

Just open your eyes.

[eerie music stinger]

[Mavi babbles]

[Emre] You're lost,
and I'm here to help you.

[Funda] Emre!

Emre! [echoes]

[Emre echoes] I tried calling you,
but I couldn't reach you.

-Emre! [echoes]
-[Emre] We need to talk.

I'm here to help you. [echoes]

Emre? [echoes]

[Mavi whining]

-[Emre] Open your eyes.
-Emre!

[Emre] The truth is in front of you.

Emre!

[dramatic music playing]

Emre.

Emre.

[engine revving]

Hey, what are you doing, Funda?

[Funda] Emre.

[music intensifies]

[İlker] Funda!

[Funda] Emre!

[tires screech]

Funda!

[Mavi crying]

-[crying continues]
-[Funda groans]

-Come here.
-Is she…

[Mavi crying]

[Nazlı] Did you get a boo-boo? It's okay.

-It's okay. Sh.
-[crying continues]

[Nazlı shushing] Did you get a boo-boo?

Sh.

[crying]

[tense ethereal music playing]

[siren wailing in distance]

[woman] Follow my finger.

[indistinct police radio chattering]

[Mavi squeals]

[dispatcher] 10-4. We'll send a team ASAP.

Mavi!

[dispatcher] Anything else
you guys need over there? Over.

[officer] They got it covered.

[tense dramatic music playing]

[officer] Once you're done over there,
you can come back home, okay?

I saw Emre. I saw him.

He was right there.

[music intensifies]

[music intensifies]

[music swells]

Funda! [echoes]

[Nazlı] Is there ever a moment in life
that can mend a shattered heart?

[İlker] Funda!

[Nazlı] A moment that fixes everything.

Something that completes you,
fills you with the love you never had.

A gift you always wanted,
but never received. Until now?

The moment Mavi opened her arms,

I felt whole and at peace.

She was the gift I always wanted.

I took a deep breath.

Held her close to my chest.

And that's when I knew,
for once, I hadn't lost.

For the first time,

I had won.

[music swells]

[music fades]

[epic dramatic music playing]

[music subsides]

[dramatic music playing]

[music intensifies]
