[suspenseful music playing]

I need help! Please, somebody help me!

-Open the door, I'm begging you!
-[man 2] Hey!

-Get him!
-[man 1] Help me!

-Open up!
-[man 2] We got you, m*therf*cker!

-Someone help!
-[man 3] Catch the thief!

-Help me!
-[man 4] Thief!

-[man 2] Thief! Son of a b*tch!
-[man 1] Help!

-[man 5] You're gonna pay, f*ck!
-[man 2] Let's get him! Come on!

[man 5] Come on, go right!

-Go! Hey, m*therf*cker!
-[man 3] I see him, I see him!

-Get him!
-[man 2] That son of a b*tch, get him!

-[man 3] You're goin' down!
-[man 1 sobs]

-[man 3] f*ck him up!
-[man 4] Bring him down!

-[man 6] Get him. Come on!
-[man 3] Get him down! f*ck him up!

[man 4] f*ck him up!

-Yeah!
-[man 1 screams]

[man 4] Yeah! [laughs]

f*ck you! Come on!

-[man 1 whimpers]
-[man 4] Yeah! f*ck him up!

[man 7] Send him over to me now.
Come on, as*h*le.

[man 8] Hold him up while I punch him!
Beat the sh*t out of him!

-[man 9] Punch him!
-[man 10] Stand up.

[man 9] Yeah! Show him who's boss.

-[man 8] Yeah!
-[laughter]

[man 10] There we go.

Again!

-Come on!
-[man 11] Punch him like you mean it!

f*ck yeah! Come on! f*ck him up!

-[man 8] You f*ck!
-[man 11] f*ck that guy!

[man 12] Kick him hard!

-[man 11] f*ck, yeah!
-[man 12] f*ck him up! Yeah!

Yeah!

-[man 13] Pull him over.
-[man 12 laughing] Yeah!

Go ahead and cry, you m*therf*cker.

[man 11] He's such a p*ssy.

[man 1 whimpering]

[man 13] Get him inside. Let's go.

[man 7] Come on, f*ck. Get in. Move it.

[man 1 sobbing]

[suspenseful music playing]

[man 13] Get out.

Walk.

-Move your a*s.
-[man 7] Move it, guys.

No one's coming.

[man 1 gasping]

MY SAD DEAD

-[radio chatter]
-[siren whoops]

You have to eat something.

Come on, eat.

[Lidia sighs]

-[vehicle approaching]
-[reversing alarm beeping]

The crane's here.

[loud clattering]

[unsettling music playing]

Is that Julie? Is it?

FORENSIC POLICE

[man 1] Look out. Move to the other side.
We need space to work here.

POLICE

[man 2] I need a hundred feet of hose,
right now.

We gotta take it to them.

Please move out of the way.
We need to go through.

[man 1] Be careful around the area.

Come on, come on. Move faster. Let's go!

[man 2] Come on, everyone. Out of the way!

[man 1] Coming through.

They're on the move. Out of the way!

Stay out of the way.

[music fades]

[man 2] Are we ready to go?

-[man 1] This area's closed.
-[siren whoops]

[Emma] But I had no idea there was
a dead person in the water tank.

[man 1] You called the sanitation
department several times.

Huh. Is that what the police told you?

[man 1] Why?

Tell me. What did they say?

You told them there were pigeons
in the water tank.

-[Emma] And weren't there pigeons?
-It was your niece, wasn't it?

-[man 1] Ooh…
-[man 3] Man…

But my niece's body has not…
has not been found. Or has it?

You know, they showed us a photo.

-You enjoyed staring at her dead body?
-[man 4] Okay, let's not do this.

-[man 5] Hey, what the hell?
-She was in the tank.

-You saw her, clearly.
-No.

-Then how do you know it was actually her?
-Because she's not here. Hmm?

And what do you even care about it,
you piece of sh*t?

-[all groaning and complaining]
-I mean…

-[man 6] Come on.
-[man 7] No way.

[Emma] Would you like me to give you
her social media, as*h*le?

-[all groaning]
-[man 8] No!

Did you set this up?

No, Emma. Come on. How can you say that?

Well, I'd better
tell you everything, then.

Yeah, you were right. I did k*ll my niece.

-[man 2] Told you.
-[woman 1] What?

Yes, I did.
I put her up here on my shoulder.

-I climbed up and threw her in the water.
-[man 2] That's what I thought.

Just because someone can hear the dead,

it doesn't give you
the right to profit from it.

-And why not? I can.
-[man 9] What a b*tch.

Like all those people you k*lled in the
hospital. While you were still being paid.

-[Emma] Hmm.
-You m*rder*d them.

What did you have to do
to get away with that?

You're right.

I love murdering, because I'm so bad.

And I enjoy it. I'm evil incarnate.

Meanwhile, the hospital is just perfection
in every single way.

Has all the resources
to save everyone in the neighborhood.

The problem is someone like me,
a heartless k*ller.

You tortured Susana
until she dropped dead.

Why was she screaming like that?

-Huh?
-[sighs]

[man 10] Is that why you took her out
of the hospital? To t*rture her?

I mean, what did you do to her
for her to scream that way?

If you'd like to know,
when the pain is excruciating,

the only thing that calms it
is taking opiates.

And my mother was allergic
to any type of opiate.

Not only allergic.

Her system rejected them completely.
She wouldn't calm down.

So she spent all day and all night
screaming in the hospital.

So I decided
to take her back to her house.

Then I moved in with her,
and we were there for quite a few months.

And I gave her every painkiller
I knew about,

but nothing I tried seemed to work.

So, I'd tuck her in her bed at night
and ask her, "Hey, want me to k*ll you?"

[all exclaiming and groaning]

[Emma] "Mom, do you want me to k*ll you?"

-What does she mean?
-[Emma] But I just did not… I…

I didn't have the courage.

And I don't have it now either.

What happens if the judge determines
that the body belongs to your niece?

-In that case, I'll be quite devastated.
-[man 12] I mean, she might not know.

-And you are all gonna celebrate.
-[man 13] No.

Yes, you will. And you'll all be happy
'cause you'll have a great story to tell.

-[all protesting]
-You can even go and tell it on TV.

-[man 14] I don't think so.
-[all murmuring]

-[man 15] You think she did it?
-[woman 2] No.

-She is a doctor, don't you get it?
-[woman 3] He's right.

[Lautaro] If we're really all this stupid,
we could at the very least try to hide it.

-[woman 4] Mm-hmm.
-[woman 5] Yeah.

She could leave the neighborhood
and go somewhere else.

[murmurs of agreement]

-Huh?
-[woman 6] She should go. For good.

When all of us end up down and out,
she'll be off on a cruise.

[all murmuring]

-[Lautaro] As for me…
-I hope so.

-She'd better leave.
-[Lautaro] I'm just a dog.

[gasps] And I… love her.

-[all groaning and protesting]
-[Lautaro] Emma would never hurt a fly.

She'd open the window
and let it back into its hive.

-I don't even know if flies have hives.
-[man 17] Its hive?

The truth is, I'm in love with Emma.
I never studied science.

-I'm sorry, everybody.
-[all jeering]

-[man 1] Okay, just sit down, Lautaro.
-[Mari] What about you? You.

I'm not going to let you accuse her
of mistreating her mother.

She took her out of the hospital
to bring her home and care for her.

-[man 18] She's right about that.
-Because Susana was allergic to morphine.

It was the pain
that k*lled her poor mother.

It was never her illness.

And now you're offended
for being called morons or assholes?

[murmurs of agreement]

A LIFESTYLE

[Mari] Did you guys know Emma's dad
was an ophthalmologist?

[man 19] That's true.

[Mari] And did you know he gave away
glasses to almost the whole neighborhood?

-[man 19] He did.
-[woman 7] That's true.

[Mari] You know what you all are?
A bunch of ungrateful idiots.

-Let's just face the truth for once.
-[cries of agreement]

[Mari] You'll never find anyone
as generous as her.

[discordant, unsettling music playing]

The first time we came to Buenos Aires,

Julie was about 14 years old.

[music fades]

We went to the beach.

Out to Miramar, with you and Caro.
Remember?

After we went back to Oregon…
her school calls.

It was their psychologist.

And…

Well, we had to take her out of school
because of the bullying.

You know?

They would hit her,
they'd spit on her, they'd kick her.

They'd pull out her hair. It was brutal.

So many times. It was a mess.

Yeah, and I was here.

Luckily, Tom was able
to get her into homeschooling.

But… [sighs]

Julie would just refuse to get out of bed.

She would spend the whole day
laying in her bed,

just eating, all the time.

She was eating junk food nonstop.

One night, I heard something weird.

"Honey, what's the matter?"

"I'm just happy, Ma, because every night,
I'm f*cking with my friends."

My own daughter tells me she's f*cking,

and I see her doing it.

Alone.

She's f*cking all night long.

Alone. Every two hours, and…

and then…
the neighbors would call the police,

because she's a minor,
and because of the noise.

[sighs]

We really did try everything.

We did everything we could.

We went after so many doctors.
The holistic ones too.

We tried priests, psychiatrists, hypnosis.

We even tried going to Al-Anon.

We skipped the Mormons. [chuckles]

Tomás was taking 12 pills a day
at the time.

And all we felt …

was loads of shame.

Hmm.

What a shame.

Shame on me.

Shame on us.

[woman] Ma'am, I've explained it
eight times already.

I can't give you that information.

-I suggest that you get a lawyer or…
-[Lidia] I don't want a lawyer!

[woman] I understand that, but
everyone will tell you it's not possible.

I'm going to ask you to leave now.

Julie's like me, right?

She is.

Just like you.

[footsteps approaching]

[melancholy, emotional music playing]

[voices moaning]

SILENCE

[Emma] Lidia…

[Lidia] Hm?

[Emma] Lidia.

[melancholy, emotional music swells]

[Lidia sobbing]

[music quietens]

[sighs] Lidia!

[music swells]

[faint voices groaning]

Your grandma's waiting for you.

[Lidia] Emma!

FORENSIC MEDICAL CORPS JUDICIAL MORGUE

[emotional music continues]

[Lautaro sighs]

[Caro] Last one for me.

[sighs]

[distant sirens wailing]

[music fades]

[Caro sighs]

[Lautaro sighs]

[Caro] It's Julie.

We don't know that yet.

I'm sure of it.

Thanks. [sighs]

[sniffs]

[faint voices groaning]

Can you hear me?

[voices wailing and sobbing]

Can you see me?

Nothing?

-[faint whispering]
-Hmm.

[sighs]

I won't be able to hear you soon enough.

Can you forgive me?

[sighs]

I never had a boyfriend after you.

[Facundo] I don't get it, Caro.

I don't either.

What exactly don't you get?

[Facundo] I'm far away now.

And I'm alone.

[poignant music playing]

{\an8}[Caro inhales]

{\an8}If you don't mind, I'm gonna stay
with you for a little while.

[m*rder*d man screams] Help!

Ma'am!

I'm begging you! Please, open the door!

Please! Ma'am!

-Ma'am, please!
-[banging on gate]

I'm begging you!

[sobs] Please!

[poignant music continues]

Help me!

Someone help me!

Ma'am!

Please, ma'am, open the door!

Please! Ma'am!

[Emma] Mari?

Mari?

MARI c*ck

Mari?

MARI sl*t

[vehicle approaching]

[music fades]

[Emma] What's going on?

[man 1] You better be careful, ma'am.
If something's off, let us know.

There are looters.

[Emma] What about you?

Are you also looters?

What?

You're gonna k*ll me now?

[man 1] We're keeping watch.

We're the neighborhood patrol.

We only k*ll criminals, ma'am.

[Emma] Oh, so you're the good guys, huh?

[man 1] The police aren't doing a thing.

So you think you're serving justice?

[man 2] Our intention wasn't
to scare you, ma'am.

We would never sh**t a woman.

[m*rder*d man] Help! Help me!

Help, please!

What was that?

A dead person?

[tense music playing]

Hey, do you guys
take donations, by any chance?

-Not in cash.
-[man 2 tuts]

It's not much, though.
It's just a couple of bucks, you know.

So you can buy yourselves some deodorant,
you dirty, filthy sons of b*tches.

[engine starts]

[man 1] See ya, doc!

Help me!

[sobs] I'm not a thief, ma'am!

-Calm down.
-They tried to rob me.

-I remembered the faces. I'm not a thief.
-I know.

-You have to get away from those losers.
-They wanna k*ll me.

-Those people-- You need perseverance.
-No one opens the door for me, ma'am.

-Knock on every door. Someone will open.
-They wanna k*ll me.

Keep going that way.
Someone will open.

-Just keep trying!
-Help me!

Help me! Someone help me, please!

Help! Ma'am, please!

Open the door, I beg you!

[sobbing] Help me! Open the door!

Please, anyone!

[sobbing and gasping] Somebody!

[melancholy music playing]

[man continues screaming]

[faint, echoing screams]

[voices continue screaming]

[sobbing]

[overlapping, agonized screaming]

[woman panting breathily]

[screaming and panting continue]

[Lidia sniffles]

[melancholy music continues]

[music fades]

Julie.

To be honest, you weren't really
an easy kid, you know that.

You've always been your own person.
Just so different.

And, honestly, I never really knew
just what to do with you.

[sighs] Because

I've always been… normal.

Too normal.

Too good.

A good daughter.

A good friend.

And the truth is, I've always wanted

to have a daughter

who'd be just like me.

Normal.

[melancholy music resumes]

But no.

I was so disappointed in you.

I don't know. They say it's pretty common.

That it's normal.

[sighs deeply]

Please forgive me.

[music fades]

[overlapping voices moaning and screaming]

[woman sobbing shakily]

[voices continue sobbing and gasping]

[melancholy music resumes]

[voices whispering and screaming]

[man] Help!

[voices continue whispering]

[overlapping voice screaming and wailing]

Julie.

Julie!

[music fades]

[Julie] I don't want to see you, Emma.

You told me my friends
would be on this side.

That's why I jumped into the water tank.

And now? Where are my friends?

They're gone.

I just didn't know.

I don't know about that kind of stuff.

I didn't understand
that's what you wanted.

But you said that to me.

Ah…

I got it wrong.

Will you forgive me?

Come on, let's go home.

Grandma wants to see you.

[Julie] I just want things to be
like they were before.

[Emma] I get it, but you can't stay here.

There's no water in the tank anymore.

Let's go to my house, come on.

[Julie] It's not your house.
It's my grandma's house.

-[Emma] All right.
-[shutter clicks]

[Emma] Then let's go
to your grandma's house. I'll take you.

You don't know the address.

Come with me. Let's go. Julie?

You won't be able to--

Oh.

[gasps]

[elegiac choral music playing]

Okay. Here.

You should put pressure on it
while I cut the gauze, okay? Ma.

[Emma sighs]

Ugh.

Where'd you get this?

It's what's left of Grandma's stuff.

Let me do it. Here.

[Emma winces]

I feel like Grandma's in this one.

She is.

You see her?

Yeah.

Is that him?

I don't know who they are.

There's nothing there.

Hmm.

-What?
-Those are workers.

Who died while building the projects.

[chuckles softly]

There's nothing there.

That's you.

You can see yourself, right?

Yeah, I'm not dead.

No, you're not dead, you are here.

And so am I.

Is there more?

[Caro] Can you talk to Julie?

[Emma] About the camera.

Did you drop it, or was it on purpose?

You've already accused me
of having k*lled Facundo.

-But you didn't k*ll him.
-Hmm.

-He would've died anyway.
-I appreciate it.

You always wanna tell me everything.

I want you to be able
to tell me everything too.

You should keep taking photos, Caro.
You're good at it.

Well, thanks. You're in this one.

[Emma] Aren't you waiting for the autopsy?

No.

They aren't able to tell if it's even her.

They're unable to prove it.

And I'm not giving them any samples.

Parasites.

One day, when Julie's ready to come home,

she'll get on a plane,

and she'll come back to me.

What about Tomás?

[Lidia sighs] I don't know,
I couldn't find him.

He's always told me
he wanted to die in Buenos Aires. So…

[Emma] You'll be there by yourself?

Yes. It'll be a relief.

Was about time. [sighs]

[Tom] …for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

[choral music continues]

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women.

-[Julie] Dad…
-And blessed…

[Julie] Dad, stop it already.

[faint voices screaming]

[Julie] Dad, that's enough.

[music fades]

Julie?

[gasping]

[voices continue screaming]

Julie?

Where are you?

Tell me.

[screaming growing louder]

[Tom sobs]

[Julie] That's enough, Dad.

[Tom whimpers]

[gasps] Julie…

[urinating]

[Emma] Caro.

Lidia's going back to the US.

But what about Julie?

-And her funeral?
-I don't know.

[urinating]

[sighs]

I'm not saying goodbye.

[Emma] I'm not either.

But come on anyway. It might be
the last time you set eyes on her.

[door closes]

[Lidia coughs]

[Emma] Lidia.

Lidia.

-[Mari] Oh, that poor woman.
-[Emma] Come on.

No one should ever have to experience
losing a child. It's awful.

[Emma tuts and sighs]

[Mari] Did you know
they broke into my house?

-[Emma] No.
-[Mari] They did.

[Emma] Did they do something to you?

[Mari] Well, at least
they didn't g*n me down, but…

It was my f*cking ex!
That b*stard's still in love with me.

-[Emma] Then let's go file a report.
-[Mari] Yeah, I already did.

[Emma] Good, then. Good for you.

-Well, we'll talk about this later.
-[Mari] Sure.

[dog barking]

How are you, Matías?

-[Matías] Hi.
-What's going on?

[Matías] They wanna k*ll me.
Can I hide at your house?

[Emma] Don't worry.
No one's following you anymore.

They forgot about it. All right?

[Matías] What did they forget?

[Emma] Matías, open your mouth.

Okay, now stick out your tongue.

Aah…

I see.

Well, very good news. You're doing great.
You're fit as a fiddle.

-Keep it up, hmm?
-[Matías] I don't smoke.

[Emma] Of course not. I don't either.
Smoking is terrible.

Listen to me. I need to ask you a favor.

Do you know Mari?

She's the lady who lives there,
in that house.

No? She's a really nice person,
who loves talking a lot.

She also swam in the Olympics.

But then she f*cked up her back.

And now she's a masseuse.

And I'd really like if you would go
into her house and stay there with her.

'Cause she's scared of everything.

I live right next door,
so we'll get to be neighbors.

Whenever you don't feel well,
you come see me. I won't charge you.

I'm a doctor. Hmm?

All right? Deal?

[Matías] But why?

[Emma] Well, because…

Come on.

You know, I can be a really tough person,

but I can also be very nice
if I choose to be.

And if you're nice to her,
I'll be nice to you. Yeah?

And you'd better keep an eye on her.
She's been on the lookout for a boyfriend.

[warm music playing]

[Emma] Go on. Come on. Go ahead.

Emma, stop wasting time.

[Emma] What?

[music grows tense]

[faint voices murmuring and groaning]

[woman gasping shakily]

[gasping continues]

[gasping continues]

[music fades]

[Florencia] Ah, this is so pretty.

Look at this color.

-[Johanna] Wow, it's gorgeous!
-[Florencia] Right?

-[Naty] Hey, girls. What's up?
-[Johanna] Yep… Hi!

-[Florencia] Hi, Naty.
-[Johanna] Naty!

-Did you see what Flor is holding?
-[Florencia] Here, look.

-[Naty] Wow, that's pretty.
-[Florencia] I know.

[Emma] Have you found your friends?

[Julie] Not yet.

-[Emma] Julie.
-[Naty] Check this out.

[cheerful pop music playing on speakers]

I don't wanna see you again.

[Naty] Me too. Sorry it…

You wanna come back and see Grandma?

But you're gonna be there.

I don't need to talk to you.

Your friends will be there.
Remember that?

You didn't come back for them.

[sighs]

Please forgive me.

No.

It's okay.

I forgive you.

Thank you.

[Julie hisses] f*ck you, b*tch.

[Caro] What's wrong?

Julie says she's still mad at me.

[Julie moaning in pleasure] Oh! Oh, yeah.

Oh! Yeah.

Oh.

Yeah. Yeah. Oh!

[sighing]

Oh, yes.

Oh! Yes.

Oh!

Oh, yes.

Oh! Yes!

Oh! Yes. Yes.

[Caro] I signed the lease
for the apartment yesterday, Grandma.

[Julie continues moaning]

[Caro] Even though your daughter
charges me a lot,

it's also true that the apartment
is beautiful and totally worth it.

-And I can afford it.
-[Julie sighs]

[Julie falls silent]

[Caro] I also thought about
renting it out to foreigners

and moving here.

You know?

I don't know
if it's going to be easy with you,

because I want to set up
a studio here too, Grandma.

Mom, can you lend me money
for a new camera?

I'll give you the money
when the agency pays me back.

[Emma] Of course I can.

[Caro] You should replace your phone.

Every time you send a voice message,
it never comes through.

[Emma] All right.

[Caro] Grandma's here, right?

[chuckles]

Yeah, so. I…

always remember those
butter cookies you used to make.

But I no longer have the recipe.

[Susana whimpers]

She's happy about it,
but can't remember the recipe.

-I'm sure it's somewhere around the house.
-[Caro] Great.

-[Emma] Julie's now here with us as well.
-[Caro] Ah. How's she doing?

How are you doing, Julie?

[sighs]

My friends were waiting for me,
like you said they would.

[chuckles] She's very happy, I can tell.

I think she'll be staying
in this house forever.

-Ah, that's great.
-[Emma] Mmm.

[Caro] So, it's just like before, then.

I hope so.

Can Julie also see Grandma?

Julie, can you see Grandma?

-I can.
-She can.

Granny Su?

How is she?
That's really all I want to know.

How are you doing, Mama?

I'm allergic to morphine.

-[Emma] "I'm allergic to morphine."
-That's what she said?

Is that what you said?

Well, she's not talking now.

I heard her, she did say it.

Yeah, she said it. Julie heard her.

[Caro] Thank you.

I'm allergic to morphine.

-She said, "I'm allergic to morphine."
-You are?

-[chuckles] No. Julie.
-Ah.

[Julie] I didn't know
that I was allergic to morphine.

"I didn't know
I was allergic to morphine."

-[chuckles]
