Ascendance of a Bookworm:
Adopted Daughter of an Archduke

Episode 24
Rescue

Rosemyne successfully completed
Charlotte's baptism.

However...

We were attacked near the northern annex!

Close off the great hall!

Any nobles that are not present
will be under suspicion!

I don't see Viscount Gerlach anywhere.

He went to get something to drink...

Poison?!

There's an unmarked carriage
parked outside of the kitchen.

Take this there.

I will definitely save Rosemyne!

Lord Bonifatius!

They self-destructed.

More importantly, what happened
to Rosemyne and Charlotte?

Angelica!

Oh, our little princess
Charlotte is safe!

Sister came to save me and
was kidnapped by someone!

What?!

Cornelius is currently in pursuit.

I shall give chase as well.

I'll go!

Is that it?!

Calm down!

Stop it!

You're the one!

Hm? This voice...

You're the fool that kidnapped
my only granddaughter!

G-Grandfather?!

Is this it?

Rosemyne, are you inside?

Grandfather! I'm upside down!

I can't feel anything, but the
blood is rushing to my head!

Stop! Don't shake me!

There's no answer.

It can't be that she's dead...

Rosemyne! I'll get you out right now!

No way! I'm gonna die!

Someone stop Grandfather!

Rosemyne flew away!

I'm gonna die!

High Priest!

Ferdinand...

Lord Bonifatius,

have you forgotten that Karstedt told
you not to get close to Rosemyne?

Goodness...

I understand your worry, but such actions
could k*ll even the healthiest of people.

Are you all right, Rosemyne?

High Priest, you saved my life.

Rosemyne isn't dead, is she?

She's not responding at all, so I cannot
say she's fine, but she has a pulse.

The smell of medicine...

This is bad.

Of all the things they could
have used, they used that!

What's wrong?

We need to detoxify her immediately.

At this rate, Rosemyne will die.

What?!
- What?!

This medicine counteracts the
effects to buy us some time.

We must return to my workshop
for the actual antidote.

I will take her to my workshop
in the cathedral immediately,

where she can receive
treatment and recuperation.

What? The cathedral?!

How can Rosemyne be treated
in a place like that...

I know Rosemyne's frailty

and the amount of medicine that
she can be given the best.

Above all, it is superior to
the castle just by the fact

that none of the nobility will approach.

Even speaking like this is a waste
of valuable time, so excuse me.

Wait!

Rosemyne will be taken
care of in my own home!

I am the only one who can
save Rosemyne right now!

Don't get in my way!

Grandfather, please leave
Rosemyne to Lord Ferdinand!

Lord Ferdinand, this is
Rosemyne's highbeast feystone.

I apologize for my inability
to protect her...

Don't worry about it, Brother.

If you feel sorry, go catch
those who hurt Rosemyne.

The culprit should have been a noble.

Yes...

Angelica?!

Did she capture the enemy?

Lord Bonifatius, please
capture the culprit in a way

that still allows us to obtain
information from them.

Otherwise, we will not be able
to search their memories.

I understand. Ferdinand, take
good care of my granddaughter.

Let's go, Cornelius.

Yes, Grandfather!

Rosemyne, I will definitely save you.

So you must resist the
drug until the very end!

I believe we made it in time.

I will prepare the jureve.

Are you all right, Lady Rosemyne?

I will read books to you.

So, please get well soon, Lady Rosemyne!

Everyone...

Lady Rosemyne!

My eyes...

Fran... Everyone...

Thank goodness!

Lady Rosemyne!

High Priest, Lady Rosemyne
has opened her eyes.

High Priest...

It seems my mana is hardening...

Drink the jureve immediately.

Fran, bring her here.

There seems to be no problems
with the magic circle.

However, your mana...

I feel sleepy...

The medicine is taking effect.

Go to sleep.

Good night, Rosemyne.

I leave the rest to you...

Yes.

I will eliminate anything that
tries to disturb your slumber.

Sleep peacefully.

Good night...

Ascendance of a Bookworm:
Adopted Daughter of an Archduke

I didn't kidnap Lady Rosemyne!

The attackers were apprehended
shortly after Charlotte's rescue.

Viscount Joisontak!

I only kidnapped Lady Charlotte!

Then, who took Rosemyne?
Who is your accomplice?

There are none. I acted on my own!

Are those black-clad Devouring
soldiers your private army?

They are private soldiers
I borrowed from Viscount Gerlach.

Bring Giebe Gerlach here.

Yes!

True, I was the one who lent Viscount
Joisontak the private soldiers, but...

Aren't those soldiers the private
soldiers of Count Bindewald?

I was only looking after them.

I didn't know what to do with them
after the count was captured,

so I handed them over to
Viscount Joisontak...

I am unsure what you suspect, but I
have nothing to do with this matter.

I was in the great hall while
everything was happening.

Karstedt.

It has already been confirmed.

Someone isn't here? Who?!

Viscount Joisontak.
Everyone else is accounted for.

No one other than Viscount
Joisontak had left the area.

Is there anything else?

Enough. You may leave.

There's an unmarked carriage
parked outside of the kitchen.

Take this there.

Indeed, there was a carriage parked at
the location testified to by the servant,

but the owner remained unknown due
to the lack of a coat of arms.

Was he the one who gave you the order?

No, he wasn't.

No concrete evidence was found
of Gerlach's involvement.

He's the culprit.

A secret passage?

That's right.

After that man received
Rosemyne from Viscount Gerlach

and carried her away by horse...

There should be a secret passage
that leads to the great hall.

If he used that passage, even if
the great hall was sealed off...

He could return.

But only the aub should know
about that secret passage...

There was a time when Georgine and
I were both educated as the next heirs.

My elder sister was educated
to be the next heir?!

Assume she has the same
knowledge as an Archduke.

It's troublesome, but we can
now refuse any future visits.

Yes. In the meantime, we
will rebuild Ehrenfest.

There is no need for guard knights that
lack the strength to protect Rosemyne.

Yes, Master!

And so, the days without Rosemyne began.

In order to become healthy again,
I will sleep for some time.

Please continue making books
as usual during my absence.

She managed to survive, but it'll now
take a year for the medicine to work...

Myne only said she'd be sleeping
for a while in her letter...

Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!

Myne is a strong child. It's fine...

She'll be fine. Let's trust her and wait.

Her life isn't in danger.
That's the only saving grace.

Her life isn't in danger, right?

Then, we'll just continue
as we have been.

Yes, Master.

It's almost been a year.

Rosemyne still shows no signs of waking?

It seems Rosemyne's awakening will
be much further down the line.

Huh?

Her mana is too compressed. It will take
a very long time to dissolve all of it.

How did you manage to survive with
this much mana in your body?

Fran, exchange the feystones
out for new ones.

Yes.

Please wake up quickly,

Lady Rosemyne.

Yahoo!

I just need to keep it up!

And then, the second spring passed...

And at the end of summer...

Her fingertips are
starting to move again.

Now we just need to wait
for her to wake up.

I see.

The high priest is currently attending
to the Harvest Festival...

Yes, he is scheduled to
return in two weeks.

What will we do if Lady Rosemyne
wakes up during that time?

We have procedures in place, but...

No, it's nothing.

Let me through.

I expected your return.

Not yet...

After that, Ferdinand continued to return
and check on her every few days.

We're right in the middle of
the Harvest Festival and yet...

Lady Rosemyne must be
very important to him.

Yes. I believe she is.

Just how much trouble do
you intend to cause me?

There is still so much to do.

You must soon...

Wake up, Rosemyne.

That hurts, High Priest.

You slept for much too long.

It seems there are no problems.

Is Charlotte all right?

She is safe.

Her attackers were
ex*cuted two years ago.

Come again?

Did you just say "two years ago"?

That's right.

You are now ten years old and the
Harvest Festival has just finished.

I'm glad you made it in time for
your entry to the Royal Academy.

N-No way...

No!

- We will do our best in
your place, Big Sister!

- FQC Michelle Tymon

- And Mother...

- It is a mother's duty to expand
Rosemyne's printing industry in her place.

And apparently, she built a workshop
in her hometown of Haldenzel.

Sorry, Mr. Benno...

What happened to Damuel's proposal?

The marriage did not come to fruition.

Will you come to Illgner?

I cannot go to Illgner...

No way...

It's been two years. A lot
of things have happened...

Your attendants have been waiting
for you to wake up that whole time.

All while making books.

New books!

High Priest... Have I
really become healthy?

Unfortunately, due to the
effects of the poison,

the jureve wasn't

able to completely dissolve
the hardened mana within your body.

What?!

You said I would become healthy!

High Priest, you're such a liar!

Myne opened her eyes?!

Yeah.

Thank goodness!

All right! All right!

Yahoo!

Th-Thank goodness...

Thank goodness, Myne!

I want to see Myne's face
as soon as possible!

Oh...

She needs to attend a school for nobles
called the Royal Academy in the winter,

so she won't be able
to see us right away.

Then, I'm off.
