I want space.

[Victor] I'll give you space.
I'll spend some time in São Paulo.

-[phone buzzing]
-Gonna get that?

IN PREVIOUS EPISODES

No. He still doesn't deal that well
with our friendship.

[Victor] You never think
about how your actions affect others.

You only think about…
about your own self.

What we have is bigger than this.
It'll never go away.

Whether as partners or friends,
Sílvio and Fausto, forever.

Yes. Forever.

[Victor] You really like him then?

The same way you liked me?

"The most heartbroken person in Brazil."
That's sad.

[Lucas] If we convince him
to join our film,

I'm sure I can secure financing.

So my last chance in my career
is to associate with a canceled man.

That guy is so handsome,
nobody's going to care at all.

[Lucas] And you proved to be
a great director with Giselle.

He's perfect for our movie.

[Victor] This is the worst crisis ever.

-I don't know what to do.
-[Liz] Let's go dance samba.

[Victor] I was never good
with women at those.

[Liz] But with me, it'll be different.
You'll meet some of my friends.

You're a piece of sh*t.

Do you know you're nothing
but an attention-seeking loser?

-Can I sleep here?
-Of course.

I'm throwing an after party at my place

without the ugly, uninteresting people
at this party.

-I'll wait there.
-[coughs]

[Zé Henrique] I hope you hate yourself
enough to come running after me.

[chattering, laughing]

-[elevator rumbles]
-[Bia gasps]

[chuckling]

Hello? We're stuck in the elevator.
Can you open it soon?

No, we're trapped!

Come on, we can't wait that long!

[Bia] Yep, he's smoking
inside of a stuck elevator.

[coughing]

For God's sake,
please come get us out!

Come now, please, just figure it out.
We're stuck!

[chuckles] So, how much you getting paid?

[groans] Why, Bia?
What the hell were you thinking?

[partygoer] Okay, okay! Look here!

-Let's take a picture.

[Bia] This is me now,
wondering if I have any self-respect left.

And no, I don't.

But I'm wearing red lipstick,
and my makeup is flawless.

And I look gorgeous. And I'm hot.

I won't let that man get away tonight.

I just need to get rid of these two.

Is it wrong if I picture myself
pushing them off the balcony?

No, I don't need to do that.

I'm better than that.

He's looking at me.
He knows I'm different.

By the end of the night,
he'll come begging for me.

Or not.

episode 6
oh boy

[Zé Henrique sighs, sniffles]

[screams, grunts]

[grunting]

Watch out.

You're too close to the edge.
Careful, you might fall.

You think I'd fall off by accident?

Do you think I'm… an idiot?

I do, but that's not the issue.

You're tall,
and I think that railing is pretty low.

And accidents do happen, so…

You drank way too much last night.

It just takes one slip,
and bye-bye sertanejo.

I was drunk yesterday.

That's in the past. It's a new day.

The effects leave your system,
unfortunately. [sniffles]

Are you not familiar with drinking?

The alcohol's worn off,
but you're still an as*h*le.

You f*cking jerk.

[scoffs]

I just don't want to watch you
fall in front of me, Jesus…

and leave me scarred for life.

I should leave so I don't push you
over the railing myself.

[sighs]

f*ck you.

This is me now.

And I hope I never see
this m*therf*cker again.

God, what have I done with my life?

[sighs]

It can't get any worse than this.

I need to get my head straight,
pull it together, get a grip on myself.

[groans]

[phone buzzing]

Hi, Lucas. What's up now? Could we
talk about it another time, please?

I'm not really in the right headspace
for work conversations right now.

You're apparently never
in the right headspace.

What do you mean?

You know that I'm… that my main
priority is always work, Lucas.

That's not how it looks. Seems like
you prefer fame and f*cking around.

Hi. Are you busy?

[Victor] Not at all.

They actually want me

You okay? What did you want to talk about?

It's just…
I'm having kind of a shitty day,

and I didn't know who else to call.

Are you all right?

I was never any good at being single.

Yeah, it's crazy, right?

What do we do when we can't even make
things work with the love of our life?

At least we're best friends.

-We are?
-For me, yeah.

For me, as well.

I just hope that life has some
good surprises waiting for us still.

[inhales sharply] Uh--

Let's make a pact.

We're gonna fully focus on our growth
and not focus on love

-[chuckles]

You got a deal.

-f*ck love.
-[chuckles]

Wanna get together?

Uh…

wouldn't that mess up

I can come and see you as a friend.

No, no, no, it's okay.
No, don't worry. It's okay.

You're right.

Don't worry about me. I'm fine.

Okay.

-Talk soon.
-See you.

[Victor grunts]

[both] Oh, God.

[both chuckle]

Tough day?

No. My "Oh, God" was
just because I feel lazy.

Why? Was your "Oh, God" a cry for help

because you hate life, you wanna die,
and nothing makes sense?

-A bit morbid, huh?
-[chuckles]

Guess I'm feeling a little morbid.
[chuckles]

I think it's because of this podcast
I was listening to waiting for my flight.

Which podcast?

So, it's all about a girl
who just completely vanished in the '90s.

And no one knows if she ran away
or if she was kidnapped

or in hiding or she died. No one knew.

Afterward her brother, get this,
was the main suspect.

Man, it's morbid as hell.

But super fun, though. [chuckles]

You know, I haven't really gotten to
tap into all those true crime podcasts.

Really?

Wow, it's just that life can
get so dull nowadays,

just very colorless.

And these help a little bit.

Something that makes you think,
"Well, uh, hey,

at least I've never had a real
podcast-level tragedy in my life, so…"

Yeah.

Where are you off to?

Normally, I live in Recife.
I'm here for a conference.

I'm a dentist.

[Victor] Hmm.

Well, I'm flying out later as well,
to São Paulo.

[inhales sharply]

Shall we hang in my burger joint
until your flight?

It's around the block.

So, uh, listen…

That's a weird invitation. I'm sorry.

-I just figured…
-No, no, no.

It wasn't weird at all. Well…

-maybe a little weird.
-[chuckles]

But what I wanted to say
is that I'm not single.

Ah.

And I didn't know if the invitation
was kind of like a date

or if it was something like,

"Hey, man, let's just hang,
what do you think?" You know?

Just thought you were
funny and interesting.

But you're safe with me.

I literally just made this pact
and promised I would focus on my growth

-rather than looking for love.
-You did, huh?

So tell me,
how's your little pact going so far?

And why are you hanging around here?

So, right here in this spot,
at this very playground,

was where that girl
from the podcast was kidnapped.

-No.
-I swear.

God, I'm really hooked on these stories.

Actually, I know where we can
k*ll time before heading to the airport.

They never found the whole body, you know?

But the mayor allowed them to hold
a funeral when they found her little arm.

[Victor] Jesus Christ, no. That's dark.

Whose idea was it to turn that
into entertainment? [chuckles]

[woman] Look, it's not my fault, okay?

Blame whoever turned it into a trend.

I'm just another victim
of the culture industry.

[Victor] Right.

[woman] Is it… Wait.

I think we should've reached it by now.

Should I check the map again?

No. No, no, no. No.
I'll trust… I'll trust my guts.

[Victor chuckles]

[woman] I have a feeling it's this way.

In fact, I'm almost positive
it's this way. Follow me.

Did you just get reminded

I was just revisiting

[Bia sighs heavily]

Hold this for me, please. Thanks.

[Marcelo sighs]

[Bia] I feel like I've…

wasted every work opportunity
that I've ever had.

I feel like…

I've let down everyone that I love.

It's just that, I feel like…
I did it all totally wrong in my life.

You know the fable,
it's called The Boy Who Cried Wolf?

-[chuckles] Mm-hmm. Yeah.
-The one that teaches kids not to lie.

Only mine is called Bia Versus Life.

[Marcelo chuckles]

What's the moral of that story, then?

That's what I need explained to me.

I haven't learned my lesson
after all these years.

[chuckles]

As soon as I figure it out,
I'll let you know.

[chuckles]

Also, my money's running low, and I
have to leave my beautiful apartment.

Mmm.

It's f*cked up.

What would you need
to be happy in life, Bia?

What do you mean?

Just saying, what do you actually need
to be truly happy?

Think about it.

Ah! [chuckling]

Ta-da!

Wow. She got famous.

Too bad she's not alive
to appreciate it, huh?

[Victor chuckles]

Just imagine all of the crazy sponsorships
she's missing out on.

[chuckles]

Do you know how they prepare
a body for the funeral?

-No.
-Like, how they drain the blood and all?

[chuckling] No, I couldn't say.

Come to think of it,
why do you know all this?

I follow this funeral influencer.
Incredible.

Okay, hold on. Explain.

The influencer?
He puts a straw inside the cadaver…

-No, explain why you're like this.
-Huh?

What kind of dentist are you?

You're tattooed and obsessed with death.

You look like a… maybe a musician,
not a health professional.

I wanted to join a band when I was young.

When I was, like, 15 or 16 years old,
I used to sing at church.

I played the guitar, and so on.

Of course, then,
life just happens, you know?

[♪ melancholy music playing]

I always thought, when I was young,

watching movies, listening to music,

that life would turn out magnificently.

The songs and films all tell you that.

However the truth is,
life's not really that magnificent.

It just isn't, you know?

And then,
you find yourself at 30 years old,

with some dumb job
and a suburban apartment

and really nothing else to show for it.

The best parts of life are already over.

And now I'm here, chugging along,

listening to podcasts, doing root canals.

[chuckles]

Why dentistry?

It was my third option.

And the program I got into. [chuckles]

And your first option was?

-Fashion.
-No program took you?

No, I didn't even try.

My parents told me
I wouldn't have any kind of future.

I didn't get into business
or engineering school,

but just the other day,
I drilled into the wrong tooth,

so if I were to design a bridge
or an arena or a giant building,

I just know they would
all totally collapse.

-And, you know, I don't need that.
-[chuckles]

So it was for the best. [chuckles]

Yeah, I didn't have a lot of options.

I inherited the family business.

Bia, you've accomplished a lot
in your life already. Honestly.

You made a film with a famous influencer.

You almost filmed your series
with a huge network. That's a lot.

And that makes you want to
accomplish more and more, you know?

Because you're so close to success.

But to really grow
and learn what you need,

you have to take a step back to see.

Go back to the theater.
sh**t a short film.

Wow.

-Yeah.
-[chuckles]

You've been helping me so much
that you sound like Victor a little bit.

Like who?

Come on, Bia. [scoffs]

[laughs]

sh*t, calling me Victor is low.

Call me anything but Victor.

No, no, not Victor.

I'm going to go hit on a hot model,

so I can reconnect
with my true self, all right?

-What? Stop it.
-Victor? No, for God's sakes.

[both chuckle]

Come on. [chuckles]

I don't think I ever said it
out loud to you…

but you were really important to me.

Really?

Look at that. [chuckles]

Bia, you were
the most important woman in my life.

I thought I was just a comma
in a page of your story.

No.

-No?
-No, you…

you were much more than that.

-[chuckles]
-You were an ellipsis.

-Yeah, seriously.
-I knew it, yeah.

[laughs] You were an entire letter.

Oh, not a full sentence?

That's going too far, okay?

Oh…

Bia, I'm still married.

Weren't you the one who said,
"Oh, for you,

I'd take off the wedding ring
and toss it out the window," no?

-I've changed.
-Oh, you've changed?

I'm serious.
People change all the time, and…

-You've changed?
-I've changed.

So all your feelings
for me have disappeared?

No, I'm married, that's all.

She's important to me,
and cheating on her wouldn't be right.

She has nothing to do
with what goes on between you and me.

Oh, wow, but cheating on me was okay?
It's just off-limits now. Hmm, I see now.

That's not it, I was an as*h*le.

I don't wanna do it again, okay?
You understand that?

Marcelo, come on, I'm in pain.

Don't make me beg for it.
Don't… I need you.

Please just one night.

Bia, no.

Please, listen.

I'm here to be your friend.

If you want, I'm here for that.

But I'm not gonna hook up anymore.

I won't.

I'm sorry.

[scoffs]

[woman] You know what?

I think the real secret to all of life

is just denying yourself your dreams.
You know?

Studying fashion? Denied myself.

Then, joining a band? Denied myself.

[Victor chuckles]

But I'm alive.

I mean, if you look around
at the people who are in here,

a lot of them are here because
they were chasing their dream.

I knew someone who dreamed a lot
and always went after those dreams too.

How are they doing?

Broke and depressed.

-There you go.
-[chuckles]

I'm broke and depressed. Same situation.

Though I never even tried,
so there's that.

[Victor chuckles]

Never try, and you can never fail.

It's genius. Huh?

But yeah, you're successful,

But addicted to reality shows,
not true crime.

And? Is changing worth it?

Well, yeah, it's totally worth it.

I just got called a hunk.
No one's ever called me that.

-Straight to your head. [chuckles]
-Yeah, what did I say? Worth it.

-What's your gate?
-It's 23.

[Victor sighs]

But the thing is, I'm going to have
to meet my husband when I get there.

Is he here in Rio?

Not normally, but he came for work.

And we said we'd meet at the gate.

Huh.

So, this is where we say goodbye.

No, come with me.
Yeah, I'll introduce you.

I just thought it'd be good to tell you.

Any chance your husband is a controlling,
cheating, mean-spirited, as*h*le

who I can be furious at and hope
that one day you'll break up with him?

No, he's super cool.

Does he work
for one of those evil corporations

that exploits their workers, maybe,

or destroys the environment in some way?

He works for an NGO, actually.

Oh, never mind.

Your burger joint's a hit.

You're rich now. My kids love going there.

I do have money, yeah,

But what do I do with it, this money?

What do I need?

What I wanted most was a family.

Now you have a family,
