It's a really cool trip to a camp

where you get to go and check out Pokémon with Professor Oak!

Oh! So they have a camp for that, too?

All right. I'll fill in an application for you, then.

But I have an early appointment that day that I can't change.

-Are you sure you can wake yourself up? -Awesome!

It'll be so much fun!

-Are you listening? -[giggles] Yeah!

I wonder what kind of Pokémon I'm gonna see.

[narrator] The exciting, wonderful world of Pokémon!

A group of most unusual creatures, teeming with mystery.

-[kids laughing] -Some Pokémon live alongside humans...

-[warbling] -Cubone!

...while some can be found in the grasslands.

[Butterfrees trilling]

[narrator] In the sky...

[buzzing]

-...and in the water. -[whoops]

-Wild Pokémon live everywhere! -Karp karp!

[all cooing]

[narrator] And in this particular forest...

[chittering]

-Pi-pi-chu? -[Butterfrees trilling]

-Ekans. -[Pichu continues chittering]

[narrator] Pichu is a Pokémon who can use Electric-type moves.

-[electricity crackling] -[groaning]

[narrator] However, it appears Pichu is still learning

to control its electricity.

-Pichu? -[gibbering]

Pi-pi-chu?

[both murmuring, giggling]

Pichu? Pi-pichu!

Pi-pichu.

[screeching]

[narrator] In the wilderness, there are many Pokémon

who live in groups...

but it seems that this Pichu is all alone.

-[wind blowing] -Pichu?

[all] Koffing!

-Koffing! -Pichu! [gagging] Pi-pichu!

Pew-pichu, pew-pichu pichu.

Pichuuu!

[grunting]

Pichu! Pi... [groans]

Pu-pi... chu.

Pichu. Pi-pi-chu?

-Kanga. -Pi-pichu! Pi, pi...

-Kangas. -Pichu?

[narrator] This once-lonely Pichu

is now happily living with a small group of Kangaskhan.

[Pichu singing]

[both gasp]

[crickets chirping]

[Little Kangaskhan snoring]

[snoring]

...the day finally arrives for Professor Oak's camp.

Yes, but I'm afraid we're still missing somebody.

[Chloe] But they should have gotten here a long time ago.

[Oak] We're waiting on a lively young man who lives in the neighborhood.

I bet he was so excited about our trip, he couldn't sleep!

Kind of a simple-minded and not responsible guy, huh?

[sighs] Pokémon Camp... so fun.

I can't wait! [exhales]

He comes to my dad's lab all the time, so I brought him!

a promising researcher!

So, how long are we gonna wait for that irresponsible kid, anyway?

All right, then, it's time to observe the multitude of Pokémon

living in this forest.

I just caught a Caterpie!

-[kids gasp] -Just as you observed,

by throwing Poké ba*ls at wild Pokémon, you have a chance to catch them.

And when the rest of you turn ten, you can become Trainers.

You'll then choose a first partner Pokémon suitable for beginners.

That's when you and your Pokémon

will be able to go out on your very own journey!

[kids] Wow, that sounds so awesome!

[Oak] But before then, you'll want to learn everything you can about Pokémon.

[kids] All right, Professor, we will!

Although, there probably isn't a thing about Pokémon I don't know.

But, Goh...

[laughs] Sounds like you're quite the expert!

[giggling]

Who can tell me something about this Pokémon?

[Goh] It's the Cocoon Pokémon Kakuna!

[Oak] Ooh, precisely!

Then you probably know this one, too.

[Goh] Mm-hmm. That's a Farfetch'd!

It's got a leek that it can swing like a sword

and slice up all kinds of stuff!

-Wow! -Amazing! Wow!

You know everything!

That's a Diglett!

-It likes to eat tree roots! -[Diglett] Diglett.

-The evolved form of Diglett: Dugtrio! -[Dugtrio overlapping] Trio! Trio! Trio!

[Goh] They've got amazing power.

They can dig tunnels at over miles per hour!

Excuse me, we do have Professor Oak here to give us the facts on Pokémon.

[laughs] Though, I have to admit Goh is quite knowledgeable.

All right, as Goh previously mentioned, Pokémon evolve.

Conditions for evolution vary among Pokémon,

but they're all living creatures whose appearances change.

-That Farfetch'd doesn't evolve, right? -You see-- Ah!

Yes, that's correct.

It's not like every Pokémon on the planet evolves.

The fact is there are some Pokémon who actually don't.

-Excuse me. -[laughs] Why, I don't mind.

[Oak] Next, some Pokémon who live in the water!

[Chloe] Honestly, Goh!

This is exactly why you never make friends!

Who said I wanted to make friends, anyway?

What I want is to catch a Pokémon that nobody has ever seen before.

[Chloe sighs]

Now, where'd that Pokémon go?

[mews, giggles]

-[bellows] -Now it turned into a Tauros!

[bellows]

[shrieks]

And now it's a Lapras!

[narrator] In the same forest, a certain Pichu has become great friends

with a group of Kangaskhan.

[chirping]

[giggling] Pichu, pichu!

-Pichu! -[trilling, giggling]

-Pi! Pi-pichu! Pi-pichu! -[both cooing]

[narrator] These Pokémon are called Chansey.

They share their eggs with Pokémon they consider friends.

A Chansey egg is very nutritious and a favorite of many Pokémon.

[chirping]

[chirping continues]

[chirping, mewing]

-[trilling] -[mewing]

I just know it flew over this way.

But, Goh, we've got to get back to the group now!

I'm sure Professor Oak's worried about us.

[chirping]

[all] Kanga! Kanga!

-[Little Kangaskhan chirping] -Pi-pichu.

[Little Kangaskhan chirping]

-[Kangaskhan groans] -Pichu!

Kangas, kangas.

Pi? Pi-pichu?

Kang-kangas.

[birds chirping]

-[growls] -[Little Kangaskhan trilling]

[grunting]

[growls]

-[panting] -[Chloe] Professor Oak!

[sighs] So this is where you two have been!

I looked all over!

Hmm, I'm not certain, but it could be Mew.

Mew?

They say it lives in the depths of the jungle,

but it's said to be able to vanish at will,

so it hasn't been seen by many people.

It's believed to be a Mythical Pokémon

whose DNA resembles the DNA of all other Pokémon.

-An extremely rare Pokémon? -Awesome!

Mew's the ultra-awesome Pokémon!

Man, I wanna be ten years old now so I can become a Pokémon Trainer!

So cool!

Then I'll be able to catch that Mew, the ultra-awesome Pokémon!

[mewing]

[narrator] Sometimes, with new chance encounters,

even when things don't quite work out...

[Little Kangaskhan trilling]

...time passes at its own speed.

[Kangaskhan panting]

[narrator] And so, with time,

Pichu and the Little Kangaskhan grew a little bit bigger.

[panting] Kanga. Kanga.

Pi... pichu.

Pi... pi-pi-pi... pichu.

Kang-kanga.

[grunts]

-[Kangaskhan panting] Kanga, kanga... -Pichu.

[insects chirping]

-[grunting] Pichu. -[snoring softly]

-Pichu-- [gasps] -[Kangaskhan exhale]

[both snoring]

[narrator] Goodbyes, although not easy, can lead to brand-new, happy hellos.

has just celebrated his tenth birthday.

What time is it?

[narrator] On the day when he was to begin his journey as a Pokémon Trainer,

Ash overslept... again.

But even so, he'll manage to get his first Pokémon.

-[Pikachu] Pikachu. -Aah! [laughs]

-This Pokémon's name is Pikachu. -It's so cute!

-It's the best of all! -Well, you'll see.

Oh, hi, Pikachu!

-You and I are gonna be best friends! -Pikachu!

Aah! What's going on?

The Mouse Pokémon, an Electric type.

It usually avoids contact with humans.

Use caution, or you'll be shocked.

Ugh.

So, you're Pikachu. My name's Ash!

Nice to meet you!

[narrator] And so, from this moment...

-Pika! -...Ash and Pikachu's story began.

They've had many adventures...

and the curtain is about to rise on yet another brand-new adventure!

Pika!

[boat horn blares]

[birds chirping]

Come to think of it, Goh hasn't been to school in forever.

[scoffs] It seems like all he ever does

is Pokémon research this and Pokémon observe that.

It's my reality, my future!

And I can hold that future in the palm of my hand!
