[narrator] After Lugia brought Ash and Goh together,

they became research fellows

at the newly opened Cerise Laboratory in Vermilion City.

Then, after investigating a mysterious incident involving Ivysaur,

their hearts stirred with a renewed love for the wonders of Pokémon.

Now, our heroes are just beginning another brand-new day

at the Cerise Laboratory.

[moaning]

[Ash] Goh, check it out!

Here's my new discovery!

Well, there is a bus available, but I'm afraid it leaves in six hours.

Why don't we make the best of it and go find some food?

Now, Pikachu, don't try to eat too much at once.

so we won't go hungry.

[female voice] Nickit: the fox Pokémon, a Dark type.

Nickit likes to steal food that other Pokémon have found.

It uses its fluffy tail to erase any footprints it leaves behind.

-[Goh] Ah, so they're called "Nickit." -[chimes]

[female voice] No data exists for that Pokémon.

-[both gasp] -So that means it might be...

[boys] A new Pokémon species!

[all gasping]

-[Ash] Awesome! -[Goh laughs] A new species!

[Goh] It looks like that one's their leader.

[Nickit whimpering]

[groaning]

[Ash] Who's that Pokémon?

-[all whimpering] -[footsteps approach]

-It's time you gave up your trickery! -[grunts]

See, the truth is you're holding my Pokémon!

When Scorbunny is ready for battle,

the pads above its nose and under its feet give off intense heat.

The soles of its feet are also said to bring good luck.

It's supposed to be white, but that Scorbunny is brown.

[man] It purposely covers itself in mud.

Uh, but why does it do that?

The truth is those Nickit have been living in this town

for as long as anyone can remember.

-They try to fend for themselves... -Huh?

...but they have to work hard just to get by.

-[all] Nickit! -[stomachs growl]

[all] Nick!

[man] Then, all of a sudden...

that Scorbunny came along.

It was already covered with dried mud by then.

Maybe it was destiny that caused it to become friends with the Nickit.

[grunts]

[men shout]

[growls] Who did that?

-[Scorbunny shouts] -[men gasp]

[Nickit chittering]

-Scor. -[paw squeaking]

[whimpers]

[man] At some point, it managed to become something of a leader to them.

A leader!

As a result, the Nickit stopped being as hungry as they once had been.

The thing is...

I know they're just trying to live a peaceful life in this town,

but their antics are a financial burden on the rest of us.

[grunts]

[Scorbunny grunts]

[Goh] Could it be...

you've given up?

Have you figured this is the only way you can keep on going?

Hold on, that could have been the reason why my Rotom phone

didn't recognize it in the first place.
