have finally begun.

Preliminary matches kicked off the tournament

where more than Pokémon Trainers

were reduced to the final

that moved on to the qualifying rounds.

Ash, his friends Morrison and Tyson all made it through.

Despite stiff competition

and some surprises from their Pokémon

they proceeded to the final matches.

The format for those final matches

made things even tougher

there were three double-battle rounds to get through

where even a single loss meant the end of the line

for that Trainer's bid to move on to the Victory Tournament.

Matched up against skilled opponents

Ash and Morrison both got off to bad starts.

But with the spirit and determination

they're well known for, they both made it

through the first two rounds.
